Borobudur Temple

Buddhist temple
Sights & Landmarks
Borobudur Temple, a significant cultural site in Indonesia, is the world's largest Buddhist temple dating back to the 8th and 9th century. Constructed using over two million stone blocks, this symmetrical stupa stands tall around a hill within an area of manicured lawns surrounded by tropical hardwoods. The intricate carving on its stones makes it an enigmatic sight at dawn and dusk, and worth paying extra for entry.
We experienced a sunrise from the temple, what an amazing experience besides from such a historic place🙏. The journey to the top fills one with awe. The detailed carvings displaying the Buddhist journey is amazing. Wow, what a great experience. Lots of additional activities to do and a restaurant available to offer food and drinks. 👍

This was a much anticipated trip, I had seen many previous videos and pictures. There are many comments about the entry price being vastly different for International visitors, 375K IDR compared to domestic visitors who pay 50K. I can understand why the difference exists, but it seems rather steep to me. The biggest disappointment for me was that you are no longer allowed to enter the temple. The access points are now sealed off. Again I can understand why, but for myself, it did take some of the pleasure away. The famous bell towers can only really be seen from a distance and in my opinion can't be appreciated in the same way. The site possesses the longest exit route I have ever experienced! You walk though a labyrinth of alleys lined with literally hundreds of gift stalls. As previously mentioned, I can totally understand why this is so. All that said; it is a world heritage site and well worth a visit. The perimeter is open and you can walk around all 4 sides of this vast and impressive temple. As I walked away from the area, I had mixed feelings: I couldn't help feeling a little disappointed by the 3 aforementioned aspects but thoroughly impressed by the wonderful architecture.

Candi Borobudur in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, is a breathtaking masterpiece of ancient architecture. The intricate carvings and serene backdrop create a truly captivating experience. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site that showcases the grandeur of the past. Exploring the temple's grounds reveals the rich symbolism and intricate carvings that adorn its walls. The attention to detail and craftsmanship are remarkable, showcasing the incredible skill of the ancient builders. The peaceful ambiance surrounding the temple is incredibly serene and conducive to contemplation. I highly recommend visiting Candi Borobudur for a unique and enriching experience. While access to the temple's upper levels may be limited, the lower levels still provide a glimpse into its magnificence. The sheer scale and spiritual significance of Candi Borobudur make it a must-see destination. It's a place that will leave you in awe and offer a profound connection to history and spirituality.

A majestic temple complex. Opening time 8.30 for the groups (with guide). No sunrise tours at 4 /5/6 am anymore. Purchased tickets online a week in advance. A tour with guide last 1 hour plus (inside the temple, climbed all the way up). Only about 1200 tourists allowed daily. Lots of souvenirs shops around, cafes etc.
Serge V.Bobrov — Google review
Requiring a guide limited the experience for me. Requiring unsafe sandals that allowed my feet to get sun burned was a drawback to the experience. Recommend taking socks that you can wear with the required sandals that you have to buy with the tickets. We chose not to pay extra for a guide that could speak English. We thought we could explore at our own pace, but we had to stay with our guide. It was really hot at 10:00 a.m. and the guide had us standing in the sun multiple times getting baked. Our group had 15 people, which was too many for one group. It would probably be worth it to find a way to pay extra for a smaller group of your own party to go at your own pace. You definitely should walk up the steps to the top.

Borobudur temple is a cultural heritage site which is currently protect and under supervise by UNESCO and INDONESIA Government. In 2024, visitors are limited to 1200 peeple per day.. and we can only reach level 9, because level 10 only used for worship. Recommended place to visit with your Family.

Truly a magnificent landmark. Not only value its historical moment, also spiritual too. The last time I visited, it was sprinkling (not raining) and I strongly felt it was a blessing from the Buddhas to keep myself a little bit dry. The written wall of the temple is still safely kept until now, which is serving its important messages to us. However, after you done strolling around the temple, please do not forget to visit the cafe. The service is very friendly and the prices aren’t expensive at all.
Erwin Wijaya — Google review
The temple itself is very nice, and it worth a visit if you’re in the area of course, given its cultural significance as the largest Buddhist monument on earth. I will say the price was quite steep however for what you receive. It was approx 500000 per person if you want to walk through the temple grounds, and this entitles you to go onto the temple but only with a guide, and you only have one hour. Because of this, a lot of the panelling work and areas are missed off the tour, and they seem to drag you only to where people will want to have photos of themselves taken. I’d have preferred to not have a guide at all had I known what I was paying for was a time limited tour of one corridor and the roof area, but unfortunately you are not allowed to access the temple without the guide.

We loved visiting here. The guide was brilliant, very knowledgeable and funny. The flip flops you have to wear (included in ticket price and bag) we good and a lovely keep sake. The worst part was trying to get out of the temple complex with 300meter plus of souvenir shops.
Katie Hughes — Google review
Beautiful temple, but nowhere near as large & impressive as is made out. Tickets are expensive- for foreign tourists at least. Visit on weekdays & not dawn and you will avoid the crowds. On exiting the complex, try to avoid the maze of trinket stalls that go on for ever.

It's a must visit place in Yogyakarta. Its one of the famous Buddhist monuments in the world, built between 8th and 9th Century. The best way to visit the temple is to take a guided tour. A limited number of tourists are allowed to enter inside the temple at a time. Without prior booking It's difficult to get a slot. More than half day is required to visit this temple. Enjoyed my visit to this place.

Amazing and magical place. We did a group tour with Sunrise, so we arrived to the Temple very early, we were the first one entered to the temple's first ground. We took a big walk around the temple and in the area. Around 9am they took us up to the temple. There is maximum 150 person/hour, and we were divided up to smaller group with a local guide, what made the whole experience even better

Best place to see ín sunrise, historical place with many loots and damages in its history Many messages are carved in ground floor level which is not fully visible as they have planned to cover it to protect the structure and few more reasons Sunrise spot but they won't let you to climb the temple, yet you can roam around the temple surface, since some have misused the place they got restrictions in headcounds and timings

The temple itself is lovely and the gardens are beautiful, however the ticket price is outrageous. It’s not worth the money. I don’t understand why foreigners pay more, it’s a little unfair. I wonder if the people in here that gave good reviews paid cheaper price. If the price were reasonable I would give a better review as the temple itself is nice.

Borobudur temple with plenty of 'deserted' and under-maintained museums. As of this review, tourist still cannot go up to the temple. The temple is surrounded with greenery and is very refreshing to breathe the air

Came to this place before the Covid Pandemic hit. This place is wonderful and the vibe is relaxing. Access to the location is easy. The last time I visited here, the view at the top of the temple was amazing and crowded with tourists. If you want to visit here, please pay attention to the signs in several locations to help keep the temple well maintained.
Ahmad Fatih Marzuki — Google review
Very beautiful. Although the two separate entry points aren’t being made clear to tourists. There is the general admission where you can explore the grounds, including AROUND the temple, then there’s the separate admission (with a schedule on a first come first serve basis) where you can walk ON the steps of the temple and whatnot. However, I love the museum. It has a lot of great displays with the descriptions available both in Indonesian and English.
Kristina — Google review
Incredibly impressive. Our guide was knowledgeable but knew that most of the group wanted to get to the top and get our pictures. Absolutely the best thing we have done in Java. Only 150 people are allowed up at the time which is good. We had a tour take us there, and we did get a better history of the temple and it's significance on Java culture before we went.

World's largest Buddhist temple that is amazing to walk in. Built in the 9th century, this site will thrill you in it's grandeur. It's difficult to image this survives in such beauty after 1400 years. A must visit.

Borobudur Temple Borobudur Temple is a magnificent and iconic Buddhist temple located in Central Java, Indonesia. It is one of the most famous and important historical sites in the country and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here's a review of Borobudur Temple: Historical and Cultural Significance: Borobudur Temple holds immense historical and cultural value. Built in the 9th century during the Sailendra Dynasty, the temple is a masterpiece of Indonesian architecture and art. It showcases the blending of Buddhist influences with indigenous Javanese architecture and serves as a symbol of Indonesia's ancient past. Architectural Marvel: The temple's design is awe-inspiring and unique. It is constructed as a massive stone mandala, with a pyramid-like structure consisting of nine stacked platforms. The lower levels have intricate reliefs depicting Buddhist teachings and stories, while the upper levels house stupas, each containing a statue of the Buddha. Spiritual Experience: Visitors often describe Borobudur Temple as a serene and spiritual place. The ambiance is tranquil, especially during early morning or late afternoon visits. Climbing to the top of the temple offers panoramic views of the surrounding lush landscapes and nearby volcanic mountains. Sunrise and Sunset Views: The temple is famous for its breathtaking sunrise and sunset views. Many tourists and locals flock to the site to witness the sun rising or setting behind the temple's stupas, creating a magical and unforgettable experience. Crowds and Weather: Borobudur Temple is a popular tourist destination, so it can get quite crowded, especially during peak seasons. To avoid the crowds, visiting early in the morning or later in the afternoon is recommended. Weather in the region can be hot and humid, so it's advisable to bring appropriate clothing and stay hydrated. Preservation Efforts: Over the years, the temple has undergone significant restoration and preservation efforts to protect it from natural disasters and decay. These efforts have been vital in maintaining the temple's structural integrity and ensuring it remains accessible to visitors for generations to come. Overall, Borobudur Temple is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts, culture lovers, and anyone seeking a spiritual connection. It offers a fascinating glimpse into Indonesia's rich heritage and is a remarkable testament to the artistry and ingenuity of ancient civilizations.

Loved this place. Foreigners have to pay a lot more than locals. But they use the extra money for restoration and maintenance. They only allow 150 per hour into the temple and you have to have a guide. Got a ticket and only had to wait about 30-45 minutes for the next tour group. They give you special sandals to protect the temple and then you get them as a souvenir. We had an amazing guide that is very knowledgeable about the temple and it history. The tour lasted about 40 minutes and we still had 20 minutes left for our tour. So we were able to walk around, relax and check out the temple at our own pace. Took an overpriced shuttle from Yogyakarta then shared a taxi coming back.

The Borobudur Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is undeniably a must-visit destination that seamlessly blends history, spirituality, and architectural grandeur. Stepping into this ancient monument is like taking a journey back in time, surrounded by the intricate carvings and majestic stupas that tell the tales of a bygone era. The serene ambiance, especially during sunrise or sunset, adds a mystical touch to the experience, making it a pilgrimage for both locals and tourists alike. While the historical and spiritual significance of Borobudur is awe-inspiring, I couldn’t help but notice a few areas that could enhance the overall visitor experience. The vast green expanse surrounding the temple, while charming, could benefit from a bit of grooming. A well-maintained lawn would not only add to the aesthetic appeal but also provide a comfortable spot for visitors to relax and soak in the atmosphere. Additionally, the introduction of more public seating areas could be a thoughtful improvement. Considering the number of visitors exploring the temple grounds, having strategically placed benches would offer a welcomed respite for tired feet and an opportunity to contemplate the marvels of Borobudur. In conclusion, Borobudur Temple is a cultural gem that has withstood the test of time. Its grandeur and historical significance are undeniable. With a few enhancements to the surrounding greenery and the addition of more seating areas, the experience for visitors could be even more delightful. This is a place where the past meets the present, and with a little care, it could continue to be a timeless destination for generations to come.

My 3rd times here. This time visited with the kids. Will be a memorable time and such a great opportunity to see and learn one of world’s seven wonders. The area was very clean with some updated facilities like electric bus, golf cart to touring around temple area. The toilet was also clean. Hopefully get better with more attractions and facilities in the future.

Who doesn't know Borobudur Temple, its fame is very well known throughout the world. Want to share experiences when visiting here. Before you come, it's best to buy tickets online so you don't have to queue for a long time. My advice is to buy a ticket with a package entry to the temple, it's more expensive than one with access to the grounds, but it's more satisfying if you buy a package to go up to the temple because we get a guide and are also given special sandals. to go up to the top of the temple If you want to come here, don't forget to bring an umbrella, hat, drinking water and don't forget to use sunblock because it's really hot up there. Lastly, if you want to buy souvenirs, after coming down from the temple, buy souvenirs in the area near the exit because it is cheaper. That's all the review, basically this Borobudur temple is really recommended to visit.

Borobudur temple is super great! I feel honored I have the opportunity to come back here and climb to (almost) the top. I’ve been here when I was little but it felt different. Now it is more organized (yes they charged a more expensive ticket) and clean. You get the upanat sandals (included in ticket price). And there’s a tour guide lead your group and told you the history. Don’t forget to buy tickets in advance through the official website. The negative thing is the exit is way too complicated, you need to go through hundreds of local stalls with sellers forcing you to buy souvenirs. Not a fun experience at all.

Standing firmly as one of the 7 Wonders of the World, Borobudur was constructed between about 778 and 850 CE, under the Shailendra dynasty (UNESCO). Built as a Buddhist temple in Center Java Island, Indonesia at that period of time, nowadays, it's the only ancient Buddhist temple in the land of Islamic Indonesia. I was thrilled to witness this magnificent antique structures and walk on her as one of the true Buddhist devotee (I walked 3 rounds clockwise on the top 2nd platform with clear mind - believe it can bring my wishes come true). It is hot, so make sure you have sunscreen and a head cover. I spent 3 days exploring the temple while staying in Manohara Resort in Borobudur Temple compound! We got the entrance ticket included in our stay with Manohara Resort, that also includes a special foot wear to walk within Borobudur site (as shown in the photo). 3 different exploration days (1st. Day overture to get the overall story, fun and fact about the temple; 2nd. Day I brought in a lot more details on the cravings and the Buddha status in the temple; 3rd. Day rainy afternoon with a complete different look on Borobudur completion, fresh and colorful in my eyes). 3 different perspectives and feelings that Borobudur Temple give! Make the way to this magnificent site!

Everything is good and neatly arranged, only after we have finished admiring it, when we get to the exit, we have to go through a maze of selling stalls (and these stalls should also be attractively designed) which is quite tiring. Maybe there should also be some kind of cafe and/or restaurant that is nice and clean so that visitors can hang out there.

So so experience. The candi itself was impressive. Being such an impressive historical monument, this candi is a tourist magnet for locals and foreigners alike. It’s like a must for tourists to visit. The management of this candi knows it very well thus even with a very steep price to visit inside the candi (not only on the court yard or “pelataran” in indonesia word, many foreigners are “willing” to pay such an exorbitant price. With this such a high price, foreigners tourist have a high expectations about the whole experience but sadly this was not met. We visited candi borobudur on 31 mar 2024 and entry time was 10.30 am and we got a group nb 20. There were 25 people in the group-many more than the max of 15 people. The tour guide was not sympathetic at all and his knowledge about borobudur was below expectation. The storytelling skill was not good enough to be a guide in such an impressive candi. Apart from the subpar tour guide, we were given only 1 hour to visit the temple, it’s not enough at all. At the min the management of candi needs to give tourists at least 2 hours as we wanna to see and admire more details on the relics and stupa. Everything was a rush. The tour guide rushed us to move from one point to another point and to exit the temple (the tour guide needs to make sure that all his groups to be scanned in exit gate). This one hour experience inside the temple was not what we expected. It took 1.5 hours from Yogja to the temple, queue in getting our ticket scanned, queue to have our tour start and we were about to admire the history and the beauty of the candi, times up, let alone to take some photos. The bottom line it’s a disappointing experience. Hopefully the borobudur management team will listen and make improvements. Ps: compare with prambanan temple, we preferred prambanan experience. More genuine and original experience.

Very beautiful architecture. Ticket is very expensive for foreigner. Need to wear the sandals as you can bring back as a souvenir. There will be sellers selling umbrellas, buy from them if the weather is too hot or rain because there is no shelter.

Specialty Museums
The House of Danar Hadi in Solo, Indonesia is a world-renowned museum that showcases the history and process of making batik fabrics. The museum has an impressive collection handpicked from the owner's private collection consisting of 1078 pieces out of 11,000 displayed in 11 rooms. The guided tour covers antique and royal pieces on display with a live-action demonstration included. There's also a shop available for textile purchases at the museum, which is housed in a grand colonial building.
Went there on the weekdays. The museum is a private museum and there's about 1.500 batik on display although they have about 10.000 collections. We spend around 1 hour with Zubair as our tour guide, and he's very helpful and passionate while explaining all the history of Batik, coming out there with a whole new information about Batik and it's philosophy. We can't take a picture in the museum, but at the end of our tour, there's a place where we can take our picture, and Zubair helps take the picture. All in all, it is totally worth the price and experience

This place is amazing for learning about batik, its history and philosophy and how it has adapted to reflect a changing Indonesia. It is an art form, and this is a museum full of so many wonderful pieces of art. The guide we had was incredibly knowledgeable and really expanded my understanding of batik.

Wonderful tourist spot that goes through the history of batik in Indonesia and has the largest batik fabric collection in the world. The tour guides speak fluent English - must see spot for international visitors to Solo.

Great tour of batik collection. The collection is displayed behind the shop, you buy an entrance ticket which is actually a guided tour. The guide in English is really informative, any questions would be answered. One star minus because you can’t go back after finishing the tour. You can’t see all the details.

It is a good private museum. There are a lot of batik fabrics and you come not only for seeing the batik, but also learn a lot about batik. Since it is a private museum, you won't be allowed to take any pictures.

We can't take a picture in the museum, but they have photobooths in the corner of museum...

We had an amazing private tour with Mutiara which set the tone for our whole day of exploring Solo. She struck the perfect balance of thoroughly explaining the history, cultural importance, and process of batik and answered our many questions perfectly. Her explanations enriched the rest of our travels through Indonesia as we noticed motifs, details, and stylings she had taught us about and could now understand them.

Loved the tour, which was very informative and showed a large batik collection from different regions and context in Indonesia. Our guide was warm and knowledgeable, and expertly answered our questions.

The place is neat, clean, and has quite a nice layout. The main building looks cool although maintenance in the museum could be improved. The guide (forgot his name) gave us tons of knowledge about batik. For a private museum, it has whopping number of batik collections that were mostly in excellent condition despite being 100+ years old. Definitely one of a few decent places to visit in Solo.

We did an amazing visit to the batik museum with the kind and professional guide Zubair. He explained us with great detail the batik culture and their meanings. A must stop for everyone visiting Solo.

Great information about the start of batik and its history, types of batik, the whole process of making batik from start to finish. This is a private collection but the english guide provided all details and our questions were all answered. You can also buy readymade batik shirts and other products or you can buy material and have it made to your fit. Only downside is you may not take pictures or videos. The tour took little over an hour. Time well spent

Okay---look. This is an amazing museum AND an unforgettable experience. Even though visitors are not allowed to take photos (which is entirely fair for a private museum), the guide's knowledge, the stupendous collection of every kinds of batik (I was most impressed with the Batik Peranakan and Batik Keraton Yogya) and the general atmosphere of the building more than make it up. Definitely a must-visit place if you come to Solo, whether or not you like museums. Really.

Amazing tour of the batik museum / collection! 🤎🤎🤎 Very reasonably priced at Rp. 35k for adults and 15k for local students. I went alone and my guide Yori (if I remember his name correctly) was great!! He was very informative but also warm, personable, and funny. Thanks again :) - Timing 🕰️: The tour usually takes 45 mins to 1 hour, but mine took 1 and a half cause I asked heaps of questions 😅 So it depends on how curious you are! :) - Accessibility ⚠️♿️: There’s around 10 rooms (from memory) and no seating area so I would recommend this able-bodied people that can stand for long periods of time. Unfortunately, most of the batik pieces are on low platforms so you have to crouch, squat, or bend over to view them which hurt :(( There’s a few steps of stairs to get to each room. You also cannot drink or eat inside so I got a little thirsty and pusing at the end :( The toilets are also a little far from the museum section. - Service: Tour guide was amazing!! But cashier ladies were a little rude lol, didn’t really smile and had no patience for my broken Indonesian 😭😭 TLDR great tour with a little accessibility issues and some minor service hiccups at the start

The resto is located on the pretty large road side. Outside and inside of the resto give impression of a fusion between European and Asian culture. It makes the resto look classic. Other than classic, tranquil is another quality of the resto. The customers can enjoy their time alone. They can also share their time with their special ones accompanied by tasty iced white coffee. The toast is okay. It needs better presentation though.

No proper plate for the bbq chicken rice. 60k for a menu using plastic plate like warteg do, even platting is sooo bad. Food: Food doesn't look like its picture, looks mush (rather disgusting in person). I've been to Malay and they serve with lower price, better quality for a curry with similar class restaurant. Price is too high for this kind of portion and quality (please refer to its menu). Service: There are 2 waitresses but only one of them is quite attentive to us. The other one is busy watching the TV near the entrance (seriously?). Venue: Great Wifi connection, place is clean, table separated quite well between each other and sufficient electrical plugs around the sofa areas. Inconsistent lighting? Why one white light while the rest is yellow?

We loved our 4 night stay at this hotel. The rooms were traditional in their decor, the bed was comfortable, the water pressure was strong and hot. Traditional vibes is good. Congrats for the new coffee shop Kulonuwun. Good place, but for the parking area for cars a little bit poor. I try sticky rice and i think the sticky rice lacks coconut milk, but still good for eat it, sksksk. The cup of signature coffee, Ngarsopuro Coffee so unic, like soda cup, but a bit different. The place mostly outdoor, i think its not good for people hate smoke, coz a lot people smoking there. Overall Love it, thank u for a nice service ☺👏👍

For main dishes I ordered Iga Bakar (Grilled Beef Ribs) and Sate Pentoel (the most favorite dish from Omah Sinten, this dish is pretty special with custom value of Javanese, and I loves it! Recommend this one for you guys to try 👍🏻). Both main dishes is suitable with my palate. For beverages I ordered Iced Chocolate (this one is very rich and tangy, makes me fall at the first taste 🥰), Milk Tea and Hot Lemon Tea. For the dessert, I ordered "Manoek Nom", unique and delicious dessert consist of glutinous rice tapai (fermented starchy food) steamed with eggs and milk, served with coconut milk and topped with emping (melinjo chips). Beside enjoying a nice meals, you guys will also fall with their rustic and artistic ambience 🥰. For my nice experience in Omah Sinten Resto, i'm gonna rate them 4.5 out of 5. First of all, I love the ambience and the drinks. The coffee was good. BUTTTTTT…. 2nd, Me and my friends wait for 45minutes for our foods. And the last 45minutes, the waiter just inform to us that they have problem with their gas. The hospitality is bad. 3rd, I don’t know who is incharge in the open kitchen. There’s a young women, doesn’t have any manner while they testing the food. They not use the handgloves (testing the food with barehand) Overall, if you have other choice, please don’t go to this place. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

We had dinner here to try the locals' fave food and it was not bad. This place was recommended by the locals saying this is either owned by the President Jokowi or this is his fave restaurant when he is around. I don't remember exactly, but the food is good indeed. Solo food portion is small and on the sweeter or spicier side. What I like about it is that it give you opportunity to try something else since the portion is not for NBA players. We got to try the super duper sweet dessert afterwards. The service is nice as the people here are soft-spoken and well mannered, the best part of this area. The best part of Indonesians and it should be like this everywhere. We had a nice dinner with the locals and visitors and that is the best part of any trip.

The room is simple but clean enough.. Location is near Mangkunegara Palace n antique market. Open Dinning room is unique.

Traditional style hotel in a great location but it must be noted that no alcohol is served. It's an outdoor coffee bar and the mini bar in the room is an empty fridge. The description description should be changed to avoid misunderstandings.

Satay restaurant
The best satay restaurant in Solo is Sate Kambing Mbok Galak. The food is unique and some of the best tasting you can find anywhere in Indonesia. It's also one of the most expensive restaurants, but it's worth it if you're a fan of satay. The restaurant has a small parking lot, so it can be difficult to get a spot when busy, but the seating area is quite cramped.
One of the best satay I ever eat until now. You guys have to try Satay Buntel with extra soy sauce! I ordered Sate Buntel, Gulai, and 5 Satay
Adryanto Suryo — Google review
The place is quite spacious and comfortable. Although it's a bit crowded with visitors because the food is really delicious. Especially the "sate buntel," it's incredibly tasty! There's a street musician performing songs, adding to the lively atmosphere. For me, the singing wasn't disruptive, although it was quite loud, it was actually entertaining. All the dishes are delicious, except for the gulai. Maybe I wasn't lucky that time, as I found the gulai to be a bit tough, although the taste was still good, it was a bit difficult to chew. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Always come to this place whenever I'm in Solo. One of the best Sate Buntel restaurant, and the Tengkleng is truly yummy. The Sate Buntel (55k) consists of 2 big pieces but it's satisfying. The parking lot is not too big and the seating area is very cramped. During this pandemic I think it is best to order take away
Siera Yankee — Google review
It's recommended for all you lamb lovers, satay, tengkleng, tongseng, gulai tastes good, the portion is too much tho (for me...) and the lamb chop is still too big for me to just eat on one bite...I think the texture of satay is needed to make it softer There's live street music just right in front of the tables, it does make more calming down for the ones who dont like crowd and bloody hot temperature.
Verro Dewi — Google review
Most of their menus are nice,, although IMHO their satay/skewers may relatively leaning to tough side. Tables/seats are limited, so expect long queing during peak dine-in hours

One of the most famous lamb satays in Surakarta. Visited at noon near lunch time, we found that the place was crowded, fortunately we managed to find some seats. One of the staff came to us in no time for our orders, went for lamb satay, sate buntel (seasoned minced meat wrapped in fatty parts), and tongseng masak (lamb leftovers in light turmeric coconut milk). Orders were ready in about 15 minutes. The satay was quite tender, seasoned just right, served with shredded cabbage and shallots, tasted savory and a bit sweet, easily became one of my favorite satays. The satay buntel was a bit dry outside but juicy inside, tasted good but honestly not my favorite. The tengkleng was somewhat good and the leftovers was tender enough to bit and chew. Overall nothing to complain for. Price is standard. Staffs were quite helpful. There is no special place for parking. Cash and non-cash payment accepted. One thing to consider, might be better not to visit at the noon in the dry (between August to late September/ early October) season, it’s unbearably hot inside the place.

One of the famous lamb cuisine in Solo. The 2nd and present Indonesian president are loyal customers of this restaurant. It's pricy of course. The taste originally 'Solo'. Recommended

Very delicious and thick goat satay. Worth it. It's easily get crowded, so come early. Recommended to come by motorcycle, because of small parking spot.

This satay food stalls had lamb satay, in big slices. One portion of ten satay with price 55K rupiahs. Same portion of ‘sate buntel’ had 2 big satay. Full enough for 2 person. Tengkleng or tongseng also delicious for 40K rupiahs. The price was rather high, worth for big portion and good taste. Satay lover should try this stalls.

Had the chance to visit last weekend. Came around busiest hour for lunch. Service was relatively quick. Portion is big. Sate was definitely a must try with the highlight on sate buntel.
Khamdan Khoirul Umam — Google review
This is one of the most 20 culinary food in Solo and I really really fall in love with buntel satay and goat satay. The price only 40.000/ plate. The best menu is buntel satay, it is so palatable and chewy. It also serves tengkleng and coconut water. The place is always full of people. If I visit Solo at twice I will try it again since it is really make me satisfied

Sate kambing is soooo hard. It is no different like you eat rubber. Tongseng is a little better but they are so pricy for foodstreet.

Amazing taste, very iconic culinary place. Always very crowded and I suggested you to come before lunch time to avoid having several main menu being sold out. It is very recommended to order the satay buntel and goat satay. The tengkleng is average though.

Chinese restaurant
The chinese restaurant Holliday Restaurant is located in the Pandanaran district in Semarang. The restaurant is well known for its excellent dimsum and seafood dishes. There are also a variety of other menu items such as barbecue, noodles, burgers, curries and even desserts. The restaurant is located close to the popular shopping district of Pekunden so you can easily explore it while you eat.
The food is good, their dim sum also good. Should try their hakau. Love it!

Kinda hungry for lunch and visiting Holliday Restaurant Semarang. In this visit, I ordered their Sapi Lada Hitam (Wok Fried Black Pepper Beef) and Udang Goreng Mayonaise (Fried Mayo Fresh Prawns). Both menu is totally delicious, totally in love with their Wok Fried Black Pepper Beef, the beef sliced thinly and stir fried with their black pepper sauce, as you can see the portion is pretty generous and taste as delicious (totally recommend this menu for you guys to try while visiting Holliday Restaurant Semarang). Their Udang Goreng Mayonaise also pretty nice the batter isn't too thick which is nice, the prawns also fresh and plumpy. Gonna give extra points for the staff attentiveness. For this visit to Holliday Restaurant Semarang, i'm gonna rate them 4 out of 5. For more info about foods, kindly visit asmunchkin on IG.

Good Chinese food restaurant. The tables was set for group or family in a rounded style. The portion is enough for 2-3 person, so it would be better the order for sharing. The taste of the meals were very good. The service also good.

Great place for family meal. Quite typical Chinese restaurant but a bit more modern. The food was great, the place was great, not too big, atmosphere was kinda cozy, and it was reasonably priced though a bit on the high side. I enjoyed everything that we ordered. Prawn paste chicken was da bomb. The fried squid was great also. Beef mantou thing was exquisite. Definitely a family meal destination. Note: It's better to call & make reservations because it's not that big & very popular

Great place to have Chinese food in Semarang. The place is usually busy during meal hours, especially weekends and public holidays. The taste is nothing special, but they do have a great selection of congee and dim sum for the whole day. They open at 8:00 am which is just perfect for breakfast. But make sure you make reservations for lunch and dinner if you were going at those hours. If your order reaches Rp.600.000, you can order their roast duck for a promotional price of Rp.100.000/pc.

Spiegel Bar & Resto is a laid-back restaurant that offers pizza and roasted chicken dishes as well as burgers with french fries. It has an European atmosphere and is decorated with old newspaper clippings and wood paneling.
This is a beautiful resto in a beautiful town. The place is quite romantic, spacious and feels so vintage. The food is pretty good, the lasagna is the best one I have tastes in a while (in Indonesia) but the cappuccino was just normal. The music and decoration is excellent and the attention is great. The only negative thing is that someone in the kitchen didn't wear a mask, however everyone else did.

Athmosphere is five star! Love the vibe of a classic bar with high cealing. Service was okay, not great tho, since there were not many waitress on the venue. Food wise was good, we enjoyed having brunch there. Price wise, more on the expensive side.

Sadly, last time came here too many menus sold out. A little bit disappointed for that. After the renovation, it looks like there's a slight taste difference. Some foods are a little bit salty now, while some are more delicious now. Still love to hang out and enjoy their food, tho.

Big space, clean and very well organised. The food was very amazing: tasty and well cooked. The service was fast and the people working there were friendly and polite. The location is absolutely perfect to visit also Kota Lama Semarang. The toilet clean and with a very good perfume. All achieve every expectations!

Cozy place located in old city Semarang. Can be quite busy and challenging to find car park during busy dinner time and weekend. Food is good (can be better) esp. for western cuisine. Served cocktails and wine. Although not the best, my Italian colleague "approved" the pizza.

very nice place to hang out with friends, couple or family.. the vibe is rare to get on the other places, you can grab a mocktail, cocktail, beer, alcohol, or just a tea.. also they have ice cream, pizza, main course, etc. the pizza's dough so tender and i think it's better than pizza hut 😂😂 overall menu a bit pricey, but the vibe once you get there is just different.. must try!

One of best places to hang out or having chit chat with bros or friends in Kota Lama Semarang. Offering quite wide range of choices in the menu from snack platter to cocktails with proper taste and portion. Best time to visit is the evening, bear in mind that it’s also the most crowded, and don’t miss the golden hour if expecting to have one or two photos taken around the cafe. The staffs are quite friendly and as for the price, all the goodness doesn’t come cheap, but overall the price is quite fair.

This place is nostalgic for me. I used to go here during my college days in Semarang. Recently, I visited this bistro again during my vacation to Semarang and the place is high-demand. Hence, sometimes the serving takes a bit longer during crowded hours. I often recommend my friends to go here when they visit Semarang. The atmosphere matches so well with the Kota Lama (old town) area. Love the interior! The main menu is western food with various options of drink (including wine). It also has an artisan gelato bar if you like some sweets.

Spiegel Semarang, a must-visit for anyone in Kota Tua, is quite popular for a reason. Nestled right in the heart of the historical area, it offers a culinary experience to remember. Stellar Western food, impeccable service, and an enchanting ambiance that reflects its surroundings all contribute to this. Their wood-fired pizza comes highly recommended. They also offer a variety of alcoholic drinks, making it a great place to hang out with friends and enjoy the Kota Tua atmosphere.

Spiegel Bar & Bistro is a gem in Semarang, offering not only delicious food but also a captivating atmosphere. Semarang's sun can be quite intense, and Spiegel Bar & Bistro provides the perfect shelter. With a comfortable and spacious interior, it's an ideal escape from the heat, enjoy wonderful meals, and capture beautiful memories. A must-visit for travelers looking for culinary and visual delights. If you're a fan of Instagram or just love taking photos, this place is a goldmine. The interior design, lighting, and décor are a treat for photography enthusiasts. The bistro's interior combines modern aesthetics with a touch of the past, creating an inviting and nostalgic atmosphere. We tried the pizza pepperoni cups, salmon Alfredo, key lime pie, and all of dishes were culinary masterpieces. The pizza had a unique twist with its cup-like shape, and the salmon Alfredo was creamy and rich, leaving our taste buds craving for more. Pina Yuzu had refreshing taste and perfect to cleanse your body from the heat. It's recommended to make a reservation, especially during peak hours, to ensure you get a table. Explore their menu; there are plenty of unique dishes to discover, and the culinary experience is worth every bite.

This cafe does not serve pork nor lard but they provide liquor and alcoholic beverages. We just knew that they also offer great options of meals and mouthwatering lite-bites. But we came after lunch and way before dinner therefore we only tried their coffee, mocha and gelato. They all tasted great. Specially the coffee-based beverages. Next time we’ll try their food. With its retro and colonial look, they offer a great combination of a comfortable and a place to dine for youngsters and families. Not a disappointment at least for us. Great job for the owner on bringing up this concept for tourism or local attractiveness.

Great food and drink complemented with live music and the old town atmosphere. They served coffee and mocktails too, but if you wanna get some coffee, make sure to come before ~9pm. The building itself seems to be well maintained despite located in the old town area (of course). It is okay to smoke indoor, so if you are not okay with smoke, be mindful of your surroundings too. However, when I came there, I barely smell the smoke. Could be because there was not so many smoker around or could be because it was well ventilated as well. Overall, great place to chill.

Either they triple the kitchen crew or change the Head chef. It is so unbelievably slow and horrendous. We are a party of 5, and pur mains came out 1 at a time. The 2nd one came out after the first one finished his meal. The 3rd one came out after the 2nd one finished his meal, and the 4th one came one after the 3rd one finished his meal, and the 5th one i decided to cancel bcoz i’ve lost my appetite as the 4 have already finished their meals. The kitchen efficiency is at best 20%. In fact the moment we went in, we already saw the first red flag. The wait staff set the cutlery for one pax and then disappeared, and we had to call another staff to set up. The 2nd red flag was the complimentary focaccia was served after we have finished appetizers. The 3rd red flag was we ordered 2 bottles sparkling water and asked for 5 glasses, they brought 2 glasses becoz 2 bottles equal 2 glasses. The 4th red flag was we asked for 2 ashtrays and they gave one and the other they used a serving plate as a substitute. The only reason they still got a One star review was bcoz of the nice decor and soothing songs the band played (compared to many restaurants in Indonesia where the bands like to play loud music and you can’t hold a nice conversation over dinner).

Kopi_Mpat is an excellent spot in Yogyakarta to take a break from work. Although it's situated 20 minutes away from the city, the place offers a relaxing environment, with the added advantage of having wider access roads. The cafe primarily emphasizes its atmosphere and setting rather than its food and beverages. While the cuisine is average, many visitors still plan on returning in the future.
Not easy to find but worth it. Calm hideaway. If you can't relax here, well.....Good coffee and good snacks. Busy weekends so reserve. Weekdays are much more flexible.

Great place to take a break from work in Yogyakarta. But this place takes you 20 minutes from the city. The place is relaxing, a plus point because they also have a wider street coming to their place. Much better than before. The only things missing here is, you can't expect much from what they served. From my point of view they only sell the place and ambience. The fnb is so so. But for sure i will be back again in the future ☺️

I love the atmosphere with the rice paddy fields! 🌾 The french fries were my favourite as they were hot and crispy! The service can improve by being more welcoming and friendly. As we had to walk around to find a place to sit. We could of had some guidance from a waitress but they did not help us. There were ants on a table which was gross. 🐜 This cafe has potential with its beautiful scenery but the food and service can improve!

Cozy and refreshing. Hidden gems , a place that you can relax and enjoy natural space , with several fish pond and water stream producing a natural water sound , it so refreshing. The menu is not much , they only have fried rice , fried noodle , ikan nila and ikan gurame , and the also have several snacks of course like fried banana , fried mendoan , etc. For the drinks , they have several coffees , black and with milk , tea and lemonade. The food and beverage taste is good and the quality of the food is also good. A little bit pricey but I think worth it with the place and such a good feeling you get.

This place is so lovely. I came with reservation in the morning around 8 am and the wheater is perfect so I can enjoy this like a fairy tale garden at the most. I trust my expectation on the time I set eyes on the entrance to the garden, which is only a big tree with "Reservation Only" sign and some separate small lotus ponds. This is a tropical garden with so many simple ethnic detail ornament but has impact to the overall looks. And I have to mention that the lotus pond is the key. So beautiful even I have to hold my breath the first time I see it. For me this place is perfect. Having tea, wedang uwuh, pisang goreng, mendoan and mi goreng, is enough. Haha its so many, right. The coffee corner is unique among the scenery. This place is not destined for visitors who are only seeking food and refreshment. This place is perfect for those who enjoy the company of their beloved ones, having coffee and tea, and sitting among the trees and plants listening to the natural music from nature.
