Mawphlang Sacred Forest

Mentioned on
Historical landmark
Nature & Parks
Nature & Wildlife Areas
Mawphlang Sacred Grove is a forest that has been preserved by the Khasi community for its historical and religious significance. The dense forest can be explored through guided tours, which last approximately an hour. Visitors are not allowed to remove anything from the forest or damage any trees or plants within it. The forest contains many ancient medicinal trees, some of which are over 500 years old. Additionally, there are various mushrooms and sacrificial sites that have been used for religious rituals throughout many generations.
Beautiful Forest. The property is managed and curated by the local villagers. The forest is a sacred space for them and they treat it with utmost respect. The trip is guided by locals and full snippets about the cultural heritage. There are decent restrooms near the parking lot and a snack place at the entrance. The trip to the center of the forest and back takes about an hour, I would recommend being hydrated and fresh for it.

Its an hour long trek in the forest. The forest is pretty dense. You are not allowed to break anything or bring anything from the forest coz it is scared to the locals. There a lot of medicinal trees in the forest which are more than 500 years old. You will also get to see a lot of mushrooms, sacrificial places where the locals have had been performing religious sacrificial rituals for ages. The local guide will explain everything to you in detail. It was a refreshing and pleasant experience for me.

This is a sacred forest which belongs to the tribals and they believe it to be their deity. You need to hire a guide for visiting this forest who will explain you about the significance of the forest. We got very heavy rains while inside the forest and couldn't complete the entire trek. Our guide was explaining things beautifully but even she got irritated by the rains and we decided to return after only half the trek. The surrounding area is also lush green in colour and makes amazing pictures for your album.

My visit to Mawphlang Sacred Forest was an unforgettable journey into tranquility and reverence. Arriving on a weekday ensured a serene atmosphere, free from crowds, allowing for a truly immersive experience. Though Covid restrictions limited us to only half of the trek, it didn't detract from the profound beauty of the forest. Despite restrictions on capturing certain moments, the opportunity to photograph and film other aspects of the forest was appreciated. The presence of a Rudraksha tree added to the spiritual ambiance, complemented by an enlightening lecture provided by our guide, whose fee was conveniently included in the entry ticket. The option to contribute to the community fund at the tour's conclusion was a heartfelt gesture, underscoring the forest's commitment to both preservation and community welfare. While the sale of Rudraksha beads at the tour's end might seem commercial, it didn't overshadow the overall experience. Respect for the locals’ practice there to protect forest's sanctity… do not take anything from the forest nor leave any of your belongings… strictly follow this if you are visiting too. The mesmerizing entry pathway set the tone for the enchanting journey ahead, enveloping us in the splendor of nature's majesty. Throughout the tour, the forest exuded positive vibes, leaving a lasting impression of peace and harmony. Mawphlang Sacred Forest is truly a sanctuary for the soul. Also enjoy some nice pics of a few dogs and cows who accompanied us :-)

Beautiful and sacred place of worship. Mawphlang Sacred Forest is a serene and peaceful place. Entry ticket is 30/- and guide charges - 350/-. You are not allowed inside without a guide. Guides are very helpful, they give you proper information. Ample parking space is available. Rudraksha tree is very old and beautiful.

Sacred and special, this place has a really good vibe to it. Loved the stories the guide shared bout this place and also understanding the cultural rituals that were performed at this place. There is a tree when you look towards the sky has a heart formation and that is something unique. The humongous tall trees with green moss on it look absolutely gorgeous. The air is so pure out here and this is a soul refreshing experience and you cannot get enough of this place. The vegetation, dried leaves and foresty trail adds to the charm of this place. The place is blessed with so many medicinal trees and there was a nice place to swing around like Tarzan. Just opposite the sacred forest is a green room area that has monolith like stones and also a country side house. The place looked absolutely picturesque with the stone walls. This place is a must must visit.

A sacred forest with a plethora of greenery. Witness many trees that i had only seen in pics. Very clean and serene environment. The guides give you a wonderful and informative tour. You will walk one among the many trails in the forest. Humble request - do not pick anything from the forest as it's sacred for the Khasi. Wonderful place, a must visit for nature lovers. Ask for the view point if you have time. A really wonderful place to sit and watch the multiple fold hills around the forest.
Torque Davanagere — Google review
The forest was serene. You feel relaxed and connected to nature when inside it. The team managing it can increase the time we are allowed inside it. Also, they can take us little more inside the forest.

This place brings the magic of Mother Nature to you. The locals have maintained their ancient tribal ritual altars intact and have opened the place for public viewing at a very nominal fee. You need to compulsorily hire a guide, again, at a very nominal price, who takes you along the short forest trail while briefing you about the place, it's history and the traditional and cultural aspects associated with it. This is a one of its kind experience which is strongly recommended for the urban class. We were lucky to get Mr Nit as our guide, who is a great guide and is an expert in bird spotting as well.
yashokirti gaur — Google review
This is a unique experience to have gone through. It is a guided tour/trek inside a part of forest, with well laid out path, The forest is divided into 3 parts. We are allowed in the middle. When we visited, only half of the trek was open, full trek was closed. There will be a guide assigned to a group and he will walk you through the tour. Our guide - Hep, did an amazing job of explaining the local stories, customs and the rituals they followed. Visiting the 3 mukhi Rudraksha tree was a unique experience. Plus we got try holding it between finger nails and see it rotate. Plenty of photo opportunities. And many monolith stones in the area. Restrooms are near the parking lot. There is a small tea stall to have some refreshments.

Peaceful, Calm and Serene. The tourist guide will show you the way. Best time to visit is during Monsoon. Along with the Grove, you can explore David Scott Trail and Khasi Heritage Village. There is a separate parking fee (depending on the vehicle) and guide fee. (Aparantly the guide fee is same, even if you come in a group or coming solo)

Mawphlang Sacred Grove is within the Sacred forest of Mawphlang. As per tradition, the locals in the forest used to offer sacrifices in this place though the practice is no longer observed. The rock monuments stand as symbols for such ancient practices. The spot can be reached by trekking into the sacred forest with the assistance of a paid local guide. It's quite educative and interesting to know the culture and beliefs of khasi people

It is an absolute stellar experience, giving you peace and bliss while enlightening you with the culture of the aboriginal groups from the local areas. It is truly heartwarming to see the locals take pride in their culture and work towards enlightening public about the same. Everybody is very down to earth, knowledgeable and friendly. Shout out to our guide Nikhil. The tour of the forest takes about 30-45 minutes and you will get to learn about the cultural importance and value it has amongst the locals.

A place where the only thing you can bring from is memories❤️ There is an ancient story associated with this forest and it is said that nothing goes out of the forest. You cannot bring out even a leaf out of the forest, if you do so, you might face ill-fate. This is something that is said by the legends, but not sure about how true it is. But we chose to respect their culture and we did not bring out anything. This forest is one of the oldest and most famous sacred groves of Meghalaya, harbouring a diversity like medicinal plants, trees and mushrooms. The main highlight is that you will get the opportunity to see Rudraksha tree .

Visiting this sacred forest was one of its kind experience. It's a forest rich with its ancient history and culture. The stories and facts that the guide shares you leaves you spellbound. The lush greenery spreading across wherever your eyes go is refreshing. The green fields and the calmness of this place ties up a knot with your soul and the nature.

Unbelievably beautiful and well-kept sacred forest. Feels like walking through a fairly tail. Must visit for anyone coming to Meghalaya. The adjacent Khasi model village would benefit from proper guiding. The guide Nikhil was really good

Very vast and open planes followed by a culturally rich story of the sacred forest narrated by the guides. They provide details of some of the indigenous trees and the hike is barely 10 mins long which may disappoint folks who want to hike. You can skip this place if hiking is ur main agenda or if the full hike is open, u can opt for that.

The Mawphlang Sacred Forest is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Meghalaya, India, and it truly captivates the soul with its serene beauty and mystical ambiance. Stepping into this lush green sanctuary feels like stepping into a realm untouched by time, where nature reigns supreme and spirituality permeates the air. As you wander through the ancient groves of towering trees and vibrant foliage, you can't help but feel a sense of reverence for the natural world. The forest is teeming with biodiversity, with countless species of plants, birds, and insects coexisting harmoniously in this sacred space. What makes Mawphlang truly special is its deep cultural significance to the indigenous Khasi people. For generations, they have revered this forest as a sacred site, preserving its pristine beauty and spiritual essence. Visitors have the opportunity to learn about Khasi traditions and folklore, adding another layer of richness to the experience. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a spiritual seeker, or simply someone looking for a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern life, the Mawphlang Sacred Forest offers something truly special. It's a place where you can reconnect with the natural world, nourish your soul, and leave feeling rejuvenated and inspired.

It's a great place to visit. The view of this place is great. They charge 350 for a guide who is supposed to guide us through a 40 mnts Trekking. In reality it's just walking through a footpath inside a very less dense forest ( kind of a park ) for 20 minutes. So I think it's a scam to charge 350. And there's more to it, in fact there's entry fees separate and parking fees separate. So for just a park with 3 people for 40 minutes it's about 700 rupees.
Ayan Das — Google review
It’s sacred forest and has great stories. The guide will engage you with the god, devil & animal sacrifices stories. This was the good part about the forest. And what we dint like the forest is very big but they will only allow you 50meters radius. Guide is compulsory. They charge 200 per person for forest enter and will say one person will get one guide. For eg: if you are sole you will get one guide or in group then also one guide. When I reached the 3 couples were already in waiting and asked us to join them. They said there is shortage of staff. They will show rudraskhs tree, people tree, banyan tree and that’s it.you are done with the forest tour. Take 1-2 pictures and done.
Rakhee Ganguly — Google review
This is a dense forest which is sacred to the local Khasi tribe, you need to hire a guide from the entry point at nominal charges who will show the forest around and explain its religious and cultural significance for them. You can also explore later the lush green valley outside the forest.
Kuheli Ghosh — Google review
There are 100 plus sacred forests in Meghalaya but tourists are allowed to visit this one along with local guided tour only. Every kingdom is supposed to have one sacred forest. It is not allowed to bring anything back from here as it could have dire consequences (health issues, haunting of spirits). This forest is residence of local deity Labasa. Local people do perform rituals and sacrifices here on a periodic basis for the wellness of tribe. The guided tour was pretty great.

Don Bosco Museum

Mentioned on

Specialty Museums
The Don Bosco Museum is located in the heart of Shillong and displays important relics and artifacts from different indigenous cultures of Northeast India. It is especially famous for its collection of tribal artefacts, which tell the story of the cultural history of Northeastern India. The museum is well displayed and takes about 1 hour to visit.
Don Bosco Museum at Shillong deserves at least two to three hours of your solid time if you wish to cover every corner of the premises. It consists of six levels of exhibits displaying cultural heritage of entire seven sister states of north east India along with snippets on the neighbouring countries. There is one cafeteria at the penultimate level to top and just like a cherry on top, there is a spiral grill covered sky walk to offer you a two seventy degree view of three fourth of the Shillong city.
Subhanil Chakraborty — Google review
It is the best place if you want to know about the North Eastern cultures and how it has grown with years and expanded. You will require around 1-1.5 hours to cover the 7 floors museum. It has a pocket-friendly cafeteria and also a souvenir shop. Must visit for a brief history. Highly recommended for museum lovers. ✨
Anurag Mishra — Google review
If you are interested in the history and culture of the Northeast you certainly must visit the museum. You have to go floor by floor to see the different exhibitions. The layout is well mapped out. Nice well maintained museum. Very informative I must say. The ticket price is reasonable. You need to buy a pass for 100 Rupees if you want to use your camera phone. The best part sure was the Skywalk at the top which gives you a good view of the Shillong city. You need a good 2 hours to view the entire museum nicely.
नूपुर प्रधान तीर्थंकर — Google review
If you are leaving Shillong without visiting this museum, then you can assume yourself that you have not visited Shillong itself for that matter north east culture. This is the best place in Shillong and thanks to the noble Don Bosco who painstakingly collected the artefacts, history, culture and traditions about the entire north east in the seven storied building exclusively built for that purpose. It is a hexagon shaped well and for every few steps there is a hall dealing with something about the culture of north east. If you are really interested in studying each and everything mentioned there then probably three hours are minimum required . Even if you glance through an hour and half is minimum. The place is restricted for photos in the sense there is a 100 rupee charges for taking photos worth its money value in what you get as a return to cherish by way of photos. Being in the town and famous for traffic jams many a times the tour operators skip this which is unacceptable. The beauty of the place is the sloppy pathway to the top like a cone ice cream to enjoy the 360 degree view of the entire Shillong. There is sufficient safety precautions including rubber mat to avoid the slippery during rain.

As a museum the gallaries are very informative and well maintained. But for me the best part was the sky walk at the top of the building and the open view cafe just below it. Btw per person ticket is 100, for students it's 50(student ID as proof) and 100 extra to use a camera.

Entry tickets can be purchased at the entrance. RS.100 per camera for photography is charged. There are seven floors displaying exhibits. Senior citizens may find it difficult to climb the stairs. You can go down 2 levels, take the lift to the 4th floor and start coming down after going on the skywalk on the terrace. This provides a beautiful view of the whole city of Shillong. Don Bosco Museum in Shillong is a must visit. This museum provides a glimpse into the rich, beautiful and multi-cultural lifestyle, history and traditions of the tribal culture of Northeast India. The museum celebrates cultural diversity through indigenous culture, arts and crafts. There are a total of seventeen galleries, each offering a glimpse into the region's historical and cultural heritage. It will take you around two to three hours to explore the museum thoroughly. The Art Gallery's extensive collection includes rare paintings and antiques from across the North East . The layout and display are excellent. The staff here are polite. It has a small cafeteria with beautiful view of Shillong city. There is a souvenir shop where you can also buy some souvenirs. There is a sky walk that offers a 360 degree view of the city. The entry fee is a little on the higher side – 100 rupees per adult. If you want to take pictures with your mobile or camera, you have to pay another 100 rupees. But the museum is worth a visit as well as the skywalk. The museum is open from Monday to Saturday and is closed on Sundays.

Mawsmai Cave

Mentioned on
Mawsmai Cave is a compact cavern made of rugged limestone, featuring a dimly-lit entrance and uneven terrain. The site is well-maintained with ample lighting and takes about 20 minutes to explore, making it easily accessible even for seniors. Visitors can enjoy the cool, moderate sunlight atmosphere while exploring this small but captivating cave. Entry fees are reasonable at 50/= and there are also restaurants and craft shops nearby.
Disclaimer! Visit this place if you are not faint hearted and are not afraid of dark and shallow places. This place is a true wonder you will see many limestone formations here inside the caves and would be amazed to see through your eyes. Although there are no insects as such as the place is maintained for tourists but still be cautious of the spiders and don't stay too long in the stored water there as you may get some skin allergy.

Must visiting place in chherapunjii. If you an adventurous person would definitely like to explore this cave. Entry ticket is 30rs per person. Distance is said to be 150m long. There is enough light to see ahead still needed can use your phone light. There are 2 caves, we went to only one. Be careful while walking, it could be slippery at some places. At some place you might have to bend down to pass through. The jungle outside this cave is peaceful. Here they charge ₹ 30 for parking, ₹ 30 per person to go to the cave and ₹ 20 for camera or mobile. On the way to the cave near the parking lot there are restaurants and shops, where you can dine and buy local goods, souvenirs and spices. Great experience 👍 👌

Mawsmai Caves in Cherapunji offer a mesmerizing journey into nature's mysterious depths. The intricate limestone formations and cool, dimly lit passages create an enchanting atmosphere for exploration. You will be awed by the caves' natural beauty and the sense of adventure they evoke. A must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike! It is comparatively easier to explore since there's no Trek to reach there. It's adventurous. During the rainy season it rains inside the caves and it's beautiful! If you are claustrophobic it might be slightly difficult as there are some dingy natural passages. Secret tip- A lot of people seem to notice there's a second system of caves after the first common one. That's similar and often emptier because people don't notice. It's on the way out of the first set of caves, and post a little walk through some woods.

An easy going and accessible cave that gives a breath-taking experience of the limestone based caves. The movement inside is mostly easy but can be challenging sometimes This is not a place for claustrophobics but it is something you can go with kids and family and give them a lifetime of an experience. Entry fee is easy on the pocket but you have to pay separately for the cams. There are tube lights put inside the cave so you can click pics. It is such a thrilling experience to be inside there and at the end of the walk there is a like a opening that throws open natural light and is surrounded with greenery. This patch is absolutely cinematic. A good short cave walk and a nice experience.

This cave is very well maintained and preserved. Please don’t go if you are a claustrophobic because at some places you will have to crawl and literally need to squeeze yourself to cross the narrow passage. At some places there is little to no light, and I suggest lighting up a mobile torch or carry one. You will enter from one side and exit is on the other end and it will only take 15-20 minutes. This is one of the best places to do some creepy/spooky photoshoots.

An experience that should not be missed. There are stalactites and stalagmites in different shapes and sizes formed by years of natural abrasion and underground water action. Mawsmai Caves are a world of adventure. There are 2 caves and both are worth a visit. One has to bend, crawl, squeeze through narrow spaces at times but its adventurous and fun. The limestone formations in the cave are fascinating.

One of the best caves in Cherrapunji, very adventurous to go across the cave. It has narrow lanes, up and down routes, stairs, bridges, waterfalls and what not inside the cave! You have to sit, crawl, duck, jump, walk while crossing it inside. There are lights to avoid the darkness yet few places you might need a torch. There is an entry fee of 30rs per adult to get into it. Food and convenience is available outside the cave.

It's an amazing place to explore. Do visit this place when you're in Meghalaya. 📌 Additional Note: There are three caves in total, two are open for the public and the last one is open for caves, researchers only. I was super interested in going inside but I couldn't , since it's too dark and risky. And mobile flashlights are not enough for this.

Freaking amazing. It's not like those caves in movies that go deep n all, but it's still pretty awesome. There are multiple cave entrances and If u r up for it 2 of then with much narrow entrances might enthrall you. Visited Mawsmai Cave during my visit to Cherrapunji the cave was 57 km from Shillong in the little village of Mawsmai. The cave was a large network of underground caves which was full of beautiful and sometimes scary stalactites and stalagmites. It was a great experience.

Good place to do some adventure. But there is a lot of safety issue. No guide or take carer available despite taking money at entrance.

Explore the mesmerizing depths of Mawsmai Cave, a geological treasure near Cherrapunji in Meghalaya. Divided into two sections, the accessible part invites visitors to witness unique limestone formations in a well-lit environment. While the explorer-only section remains closed, the open portion promises a journey through captivating landscapes and distinctive geological wonders, making Mawsmai Cave a must-visit destination for both casual admirers and adventurous explorers alike.

Another natural beauty of Meghalaya.. Its a narrow and rugged limestone cave. The light is dim though there is ample light maintained and have small access point with low overhangs & often uneven footing you need to be carefull.

Its not a single cave, but a network of caves. Only one route has lights where all tourists visit. Have some very narrow crossings. Has large parking area. There are many food stalls available. You can visit here using Shillong Govt. tourism bus services and private taxi. You have to pay 50 inr entry fee.

Exploring Mawsmai Cave was a thrilling and unique experience that added an exciting dimension to my trip. Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of the region, this limestone cave system offers a fascinating journey into the heart of the earth. The cave's natural formations, stalactites, and stalagmites are a wonder to behold. The intricate patterns and shapes created over centuries are a testament to the forces of nature. The dimly lit passages add an element of mystery and intrigue, making it an ideal adventure for those seeking an adrenaline rush. While the cave is relatively short, it requires a moderate level of physical fitness due to some uneven surfaces and low ceilings. Be prepared for some narrow passages and steps, which add to the adventure but might be challenging for those with mobility issues. One drawback is the limited ventilation inside the cave, making it quite humid and warm. It's advisable to carry water and wear comfortable clothing suitable for a slightly strenuous activity. Overall, Mawsmai Cave is a must-visit for adventure enthusiasts and those fascinated by nature's wonders. It offers a unique perspective on the geological history of the region, and the thrill of navigating through its twists and turns is an experience worth cherishing. Just be sure to come prepared for an underground adventure like no other!

Meghalaya is home to many caves and this one is most easily accessible and very well maintained and lit from inside. The caves are quite mesmerising and you have to crawl and climb at certain places to make your way through the caves. There are some really good picturesque spots as well. Your feet might get wet if you visit them during the monsoons. Entry fee is quite nominal which is 30 bucks.

Mawsmai caves are very popular and the most accessible cave system in Cherrapunji. A relatively small cave system, it took us just around fifteen twenty minutes to enter and then exit. You enter the cave, travel through the cave and exit on the other side. While the approach to the cave is relatively simple exploring the cave can be daunting for older people as in some parts, the ceiling is low and we did get some bruises from hitting our heads on the lower parts. But it is a pretty small cave to explore and the last part opens out to a pretty photo spot with sun coming out from an open ceiling area in the cave.

Mawsmai Cave is located near Sohra. It is a famous tourist attraction. There are some places inside the cave where you will need to squeeze around and crawl. This adds adventure to the experience of cave. The Mawsmai cave route that is accessible to tourists is not very long but tourists having knee problems must not take a chance. The cave is also famous for its fossils, some which you can spot it inside. Parking, washrooms and small tea coffee shops are also available. I recommend the spot.

The eye-catching blue exterior of this church draws your attention as you pass by the street. The church looks absolutely beautiful with the open blue sky setup and trees around. The church is so clean and well maintained and when you enter the area there is so much of peace and calm around. There are stairs where you sit and relax while you enjoy the calmness of the surroundings. You can click pics of the exterior but inside the cathedral it is not allowed so best to respect that. The place is open and welcome for all people and one must visit this place when you are Meghalaya esp. Shillong.

This Church come school is located in Shillong. Its a beautiful place and one of the places to visit in Shillong city. Its open on Sundays as well. The view from the top is beautiful with clouds covering the hills. The only issue is that it does not allow outsiders to enter the Church praying halls. Earlier it was allowed but not anymore. You can visit this place for some good view and a calm ambience.

The Cathedral of Mary is a lovely church with well-maintained exteriors. Unfortunately, I couldn't explore the inside as the church was closed during my visit. The stunning beautiful architecture draws all the attention. One of the must visit places in Shillong. This church was first built in 1913 which got burnt, later it was reconstructed in 1936. The trenches are filled with sand to protect it from earthquakes. The church space is open almost all day, although for assembly specific timings are there. We stayed at a homestay in laitmukrah so it was walking distance from there, although if you're staying at police bazar you'll have to take the local taxi. Pictures are taken in the evening. 22nd oct, 2024

An urban lake and garden area with well maintained landscape. There are provisions for boating, dress rentals for local Khasi dressing. However there is only one entry and exit point. So beware of where you are going if you are in a time crunch. The place is beautiful and ideal for a family outing, walking and boating.

Ward’s Lake is amongst the popular tourist attractions of Shillong which is a must-visit. It is also known as Pollock’s Lake (Nan Polok) because of a popular engineer during the per-independence era. It is said to be around a 100 years old. It lies in the middle of the city of Shillong and the lake is surrounded by a lush garden with flower beds and cobble-stone footpaths and a mesmerizing fountain. There is a wooden bridge in the middle of the lake where one can even feed the fish in the lake. Boating is also one of the activities that can be done in the lake. There is a cafeteria too with a variety of refreshments and beverages. The entry fee is Rs 20/- per person. Overall a good experience the best time to visit during October to December.

Wards Lake is a delightful and well-maintained destination. The surrounding lane provides a pleasant walking path, enhancing the overall experience. While boating facilities are available, introducing individual boating fares could offer visitors more flexibility. The presence of only one cafe inside the lake, coupled with limited coffee varieties, leaves room for improvement. Increasing the coffee culture with a wider range of options would be a great addition. In summary, Wards Lake is a serene spot with potential enhancements in boating fare flexibility and coffee offerings to elevate the visitor experience.

City Hut Family Dhaba is a typical dhaba restaurant with rustic decorations and an interesting menu of North Indian cuisine. The restaurant offers great food at very affordable prices and perfect for diners looking for a casual, fun dining experience.
Don't get discouraged by the name dhaba, this is a proper Fine Dine experience at its best. Staff is courteous right from the escort to your seats to final billing. Ambience has been setup to give a very good experience. They were conscious to place a room warmer in times of a cold afternoon. Food was mouth watering and delicious. There is an array of desserts to try as well. Prices are pretty affordable. Lot's of parking available. Google might misguide you, actually entrance is from the Oakland road side.

Loved the whole experience. Definitely a place for fine dining in Shillong. The food is very well prepared and the taste is balanced. You should try their sizzlers, Indian, steak and chicken dishes. The ingredients are of high quality and tasted fresh. The ambiance is superb and warm. I just loved the decor. You have a lot of options for everyone. They have a huge collection of vegetarian options as well. You should not miss their dessert options Hot Brownie with Ice Cream would be my recommendation. The quantity of the food is ample and the pricing is reasonable for the ambiance and the feel of the restaurant. Perfect for a family dinner or a date. A must visit place to eat while in Shillong.

Ambience: Very well done. They have decorated the waiting area nicely so you don't feel bored while waiting. They also have different sections to sit. Location: Next to Police Bazaar so location wise centrally located. Food: We ordered both veg and non veg food all was good and even portion size was ok. Chinese dishes ordered were bit sweet and ok. Indian cuisine was good. Their Garlic Naan is recommended. Service: It was good and no dish took more than 10 min to serve and we got all extra onions we asked. Staff: Polite and courteous. Also, served with smile all the way. Definitely recommended for meals if you are visiting Shillong.

Very interesting entrance - narrow, with fresh vegetables, onions and garlic on display. An artificial waterfall adds to the ambience, literally welcoming you in. The restaurant itself has a live kitchen and three different seating rooms, each done up in a different style (I think) One of the staff suggested we go to the first floor. We obliged. Papads arrived, gratis with accompaniments. The green chutney, with mint and green chillies as the main ingredients was spicy, but totally addictive, especially with the thin, crunchy papads. The food lived up to our expectations. But, the dessert options were few and sounded very usual.

Belonging to the Jiva group, the dining experience was good. Great hospitality. Loved the food though the smoked butter chicken was sweeter than most and a pass for next time. The chicken Burmese soup is like a meal in itself (and quite yummy)! Egg fried rice were great and so was the orange souffle(liked it better than the pineapple souffle, which was more sweet). The decor and ambiance were good and had jungle vibes (don't miss the machaan, similar to a tree house, in the picture!) If you're visiting Shillong, do stop by here for the vibe and experience.

We have been to City Hut Family Dhaba for first time for dinner on christmas's next day . It’s a family-owned restaurant, with friendly service and fency cooking styles, Their dishes are quite popular at dinner, but In my opinion, they really excel at deserts. The menu has lots of variety, and the specials are interesting. There is a good mix of sweet and savory options and even some healthy choices. Portions are very generous. It’s popular so be prepared to wait if you come later than 4:30 PM. We ordered only veg menu including two type of soups, one appetizer and main course. Service was very late and very disappointing. We have waited for 1hour for the food even after ordering the food. Ambience is so good, we like the vibe of this location but good food is the priority for customer.

One of the over-rated places in Shillong. People Visit this place maybe due to the interiors or the free parking available. I Visited the restaurant twice and had bad experience both the times. Firstly, there was a bit waiting for getting the table. But after ordering the food, u have to wait for hours to see the food. We thought we ordered something special hence had to wait. But people waited in all the tables looking at each other. They have many seating area with many dinning tables But their Kitchen is not capable of taking so many orders. The food was also not so tasty and over priced. I give 2 stars only for their Blueberry Cheesecake which was yummy in the end.

It's a part of Jiva Restaurant. The interior was good. The food here was mostly North Indian. The price might be a little on the higher side but the taste did the justice for the price and the quantity. It's a little bit crowded and a few minutes away from the Police Bazar. Must visit place.

Had heard a lot about this place. Visited and found it to be a unit of Jiva. The ambience is good. The place is situated with Earle Holiday Home which looks like it's an old establishment. The place has ample parking. The Dhaba has three eating halls and a party hall. The toilets are clean, just like at any other Jiva outlet. However, I found the washbasin dirty in the Men's toilet. My better half told me that the lady's washroom was very neat. We ordered Mutton Bhuna (480), Tawa Subjee(320), Yellow Dal fry (180) & tandoori roti (50 each). The portions were sufficient. The Mutton was largely bones and was disappointing. The dal was the best. The subjee was okay; and was predominantly capsicum and cauliflower. The food is overrated, to be frank. The service was quick though. As for Non-Veg, they only serve Chicken, fish & Mutton. If you want to have some North Indian food at Shillong, City Dhaba is the place. Enjoy the ambience, but don't place much store on the food.

Visited this place on a bustling Sunday. The restaurant is located in the heart of the city. As we entered we were guided to our table. We ordered Pork peri peri and Chilli oil dimsums as starters and Prawn fried rice and Sliced Chicken in Black Bean Sauce as main course. All items tasted amazing. The quantity of the starters was a little less for the price, but that's okay. The fried rice and chicken tasted well and came in good portions. Service was however, very slow. We observed the servers lingering around watching TV & fiddling their phones, barely paying any attention to the customers. We had to call people repeatedly and a long time later someone showed up to take the order. This needs to be worked upon. As much as we appreciated the food, the service disappointed us. Hope to visit again.

Firstly, they were out of most of the beers we wanted.. fine, dealt with it. fortunately, we ordered just one starter to try first and it was served 30 mins after. Food was excellent. Bimala Chettri was very helpful and went out of her way to ensure we were well looked after. One of the best Chinese restaurants in Shillong.

Went for an early dinner. The food is great. They served a complimentary starter. We are vegetarian so our server Dinakar suggested some good options.

What an amazing place it was, after a long time we had such good and authentic Chinese food. Everything was great, our server Mr. Deepankar served us very well. We really enjoyed our time here. I really loved the blueberry Cheesecake. The atmosphere was very good and happening. The best part of this place was the live music. Cost wise also it was very reasonable.

Déjà vu a very popular Chinese restaurant in Shillong. We order chicken and veg soup which was quite flavourful. Later we ordered mix hakka noodles and Rice ( non veg) the taste was good but it was bit more oily . The quantity was was nice .

Visited on 26 Aug 2023 for dinner and there was live music playing. The whole ambience was beautiful and full of positive vibes. We ordered Honey crispy chicken, chicken and veg momos, noodles and chicken drumsticks curry all were really tasty. The quantity that they offer is huge so order wisely. We had a lot of leftover which they very kindly packed for us. A good place to go with friends and family or even if u want a romantic dinner.

Jiva Grill is a great place to enjoy delicious food and drinks with friends or family. The atmosphere is modern and stylish, and the staff are committed to providing a great service. The restaurant has beautiful surroundings and is very calm and welcoming. It can be expensive, but it's worth it for the excellent taste and hospitality offered.
I had a great time here. The waiters were committed to a great service. The atmosphere was awesome and I really like that you have a very modern style. Most importantly every food and drinks on your menu tasted great. A beautiful scenery outside, very calm and welcoming.

Fine dine place with very good ambience. At first looking at the menu feels overpriced however the quality n quantity both justifies the price. Place is inside Jiva Resort. Greenery around the resort makes it a good place to spend quality time here with family or friends and cherish the food. Must try their grill section. Recommend chicken in banana leaf.

The jain food was good, but the restaurant is co veg, so if you want only pure veg restaurant go for orange roof. The jain panner chilly was good. We also had panner butter masala, jira rice and dal fry in jain. The ambience is amazing. Lemon coriander soup was also good.

One of the well known resorts in town. However the food serviced here doesn’t deliver value for the price you pay. Staff is humble but taste of food isn’t great and it’s too pricey. Our lunch costed us 4K which wasn’t worth paying for. I would instead recommend you to try local restaurants that might deliver good taste. However taking about the ambience it’s one of very fascinating places you can come across. Money you pay is for the ambience you enjoy but definitely not worth a try! Think twice

Everything was superb except the food. The restaurant needs a good chef. The Thai curry was inferior. Do not think about it. Mashed potato in the steak was spoilt. Chicken kababs were excellent. Best part were the lime sodas. There were such large number of house flies in the restaurant that I was agast.Hygiene zero star. So the management needs to take a good view on cleanliness and food quality. Nothing against the restaurant. But spoilt food n flies .....a big No .

Lovely place, great ambience and good food. The staff is polite and courteous. We chose North Indian dishes and everything was delicious. The closing time on Google and the Property was 7.30 PM. However, we did see that they were accepting guests till late (even around 8.30 PM when we were leaving back). Recommend to still call before starting for the place as the location is slightly inside with a long unlit road at night. However the signboards are good enough to navigate.

In August 2023, we indulged in a delightful two-day retreat at the enchanting Jiva Resort. The culinary experience was nothing short of spectacular, with an exquisite array of dishes that left our taste buds dancing with joy. The restaurant's ambiance was a sight to behold, boasting warm wooden interiors and luxuriously comfortable seating. Nestled in a picturesque setting, Jiva Resort offers an idyllic escape for those seeking natural beauty and serenity. Without a doubt, it's a place we wholeheartedly recommend for your next getaway. And, to add to the charm, we had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Ali, the restaurant's manager, whose exceptional hospitality and warm demeanor made our stay even more memorable.

Café Shillong is a trendy cafe that is popular with locals and tourists alike. The cafe has a laid-back vibe with wooden floors and tables, plus leather sofas and a relaxed atmosphere. The menu includes dishes such as pork sandwich, chicken burger, brownie with ice cream. Another great spot for coffee in Shillong is Café Don Bosco which is just down the road from the Munchies café.
Awesome food!! Loved the veggie burger here and fries!! They make their own burger patty which was super tasty! Amazing ambience and great music. Had a great time as a solo traveller and must visit if you're in Shillong!

Lovely cafe and great food. Situated in the heart of Shillong city, it is a must go in case you love food. The ambience was brilliant, you may also get to witness live band as and when organised. Humble and courteous staff, you'll enjoy especially in winters and in rain when you take a place in their balcony area.

Had the Spaghetti North-East style and an espresso. The Spaghetti was incredibly delicious, the sauce had a magical bunch of curry-like spices and the pork was quite well made as well, there were some crunchy and some soft bits. The combination made this mouth-watering fish even more refined and flavorful. Also the espresso was very good at well, the ground coffee seemed to be fresh, the aroma of the blend was quite spot on as well. This place is definitely a must visit.

The food was great. Good portion. Cozy ambience. The only reason for the 4 star is the long waiting time. Apart from this.. it's a great place to hang out when you are in Shillong and on for a hot coffee and some lip smacking food.

The momos were quite good and stuffed but a bit dry and definitely not juicy at all. However with chutney and soup maybe the best in Shillong. The noodles were huge but taste wise very average. Ambience is nice. Price is a quite expensive for Shillong restaurant.

I am little late with the review-visited this place last year for lunch when we were on a tour of NE India. The food is delicious, and the staff is amazing! You need to try the thupka, and the noodles that come wrapped in banana leaves.

We went for a holiday to Shillong last year, and thought of having the authentic meal of the region . Noodles with chilli chicken were ordered . This place name is Cafe Shillong. Came wrapped so beautifully with chopsticks. The picture says it all . On opening & tasting this parcel , oh my God the taste was just amazing . Noodles with a burnt flavour & finger licking chicken . Got polished soon . And the helping was big , for almost 3 people . This was at Cafe Shillong ,one would have thought a small outlet . But people kept pouring in . So if this side do recommend it to all .

Great place, great service and some great food and drink options. Looking forward to the live music restarting. This place is great for a date, a meet up, or even to go by yourself to read a book. Give it a try for the service and the SE Asian food options and great coffee and shakes!
Shibin George — Google review
Food was very normal taking in consideration the price of them. The Dark Hot Chocolate needs some serious improvement, it was just some chocolate flavored pre-mix drink mixed with milk and served. The Chilli Pork and Fried Rice was quite good, the quantity is more than sufficient for one person. But people are smoking all over, so it's a very uncomfortable situation for non-smokers.

Been here twice on both my visits to Shillong. Cannot recommend it enough. Although there might be higher footfall on weekends as it's famous with locals as well. Recommend the thupka and the lemon chicken with herbed rice.

Two out of the three staffers on duty were incredibly warm and pleasant during our visit. While we enjoyed our drinks, the passion fruit beverage was overly sweet. Our disappointment arose when, during an electricity cutoff, one staffer loudly stated that if the customers were willing to wait, they would receive their coffee; otherwise, they should cancel it. This comment seemed unnecessary as we hadn't expressed any intention to leave. Additionally, this same staffer left the washroom in a messy and disappointing condition, which was both unpleasant and unsanitary.

I had such delicious Thukpa veggie soup (no meat involved at all and at my request no chilli either). The waitresses were lovely. The seat was really comfy. And the live music (on Saturday and Sunday evenings I think) was really really good.

One of the oldest cafe in Shillong. This restaurant has maintained its standard through the years. The menu is not exhaustive but it covers both local as well as south Asian flavors. They also serve burgers, pizza, pasta and few continental dishes. Food is delicious. This place never disappoints.

Awesome Cafe!!... The vibe the decor was very nice. I had coffee there itself and had the food packed to have at our Homestay. Below are the items we had and the ratings : Double Shot Espresso: 15/10. One of the best Espresso I ever had. BBQ Pork Ribs : 9.8/10. Portion size was around 300grams. Sauce was very good. Perfectly cooked. Meat to Fat proportion was perfect for me (70:30). Saute veges were very crunchy and fresh and flavourful. Mashed potato was not up to the mark. Shillong Beef Steak style with Herb Rice : Perfectly well done Steak of around 250-300gms. The sauce was very good too. The sad part is that they gave the sad mashed potato in place of herb rice with the steak too. Saute veges and mashed potato was the same as the ones with the pork chop. Overall great food!!... Would love to go back.

ML05 cafe is a unique and instagrammable eatery that features car and bike memorabilia on the walls, as well as delicious food. The cafe is located in the woods near Shillong, which makes it an idyllic experience to be there.
I would have loved to see the cafe in its full glory with all the possible items on menu to try. But alas! The number given on Google is not the right number and we reached the cafe while it was closing doors… more like closed the doors! The extra star and 2 for the team that stayed after hours in the winter of Shillong to feed two of us celebrating our 26th Anniversary 😄 who otherwise would have had to go without food! Since the location and approach is little tricky if you don’t have your own vehicle, please visit during daylight hours to enjoy the experience .

First of all gotta to give it to the people who planted gazillion boards screaming ML05 cafe all the way through. Instagram worthy interiors, traditional cafe menu with pizzas, pastas, maggi and what not. I personally don't fancy places that add service charge atop. Overall, can visit if traveling in a group for the comfortable seating, decent food and interiors.

This cafe has such a varied mix of reviews that I didn't go with any expectations of my own. We were on our way from Shillong to Sacred Forest and very hungry, the cafe was on our way so we gave it a shot. The way to the cafe is very pretty, even when you take a turn from the main road. The views from the cafe and it's decor is on point. We ordered a Secret Sauce Maggi and a veg Pizza and they were good. The coffee wasn't great and the service is slow. All in all it is a good place to hangout. You probably wouldn't like it if you are in a rush and wanted to grab a bite.

A quirky place designed for biking or motor enthusiasts, with an ambience that's classy and well defines the place, just like its name. We went in for breakfast on a Sunday morning, and we almost had the place to ourselves. There are low/floor seating arrangements in addition to some enterprising table settings. I saw a piece of log converted into a table along with an old wooden window converted into a table, on which we were seated. Pictures of the iconic Ambassador adorn the walls along with parts of old vehicles on the roof/walls. Makes for an interesting setting. The food is generally English, Italian & the local Maggi kind for breakfast. We asked for Bun with keema which was said to be unavailable, though on the Menu. We tried the English breakfast platter with scrambled and fried eggs (@399/-). The fare was okay, with toasts, butter, baked tomatoes, little beans, potato corn cutlets, sausages and eggs, as ordered. We didn't use the toilets, so no comments thereon. The parking is ample. The place closes down by 2000 in the evening, which to me is a put-off but understandable considering the location.

ML05 Cafe is a trendy and popular coffee shop located in a bustling neighborhood, and it's known for its cozy atmosphere and excellent coffee. The cafe offers a variety of coffee drinks, including cappuccinos, lattes, and cold brews, as well as tea and other beverages. The food menu includes a selection of pastries, sandwiches, and salads, all of which are freshly made and tasty. Visitors to ML05 Cafe rave about the cozy and inviting atmosphere, with its comfortable seating and soft lighting, making it a great place to relax and unwind. The friendly and attentive staff also receive high praise for their excellent service and knowledge of the menu. One thing to note is that ML05 Cafe can get quite busy, especially during peak hours, and seating may be limited. However, most visitors agree that the wait is worth it for the delicious coffee and food. Overall, if you're a coffee lover looking for a cozy and inviting cafe to enjoy a great cup of coffee and some delicious food, ML05 Cafe is definitely worth a visit.

The most special thing about this cafe is the small ally lined with really old and long trees just outside the restaurant. Cafe theme and decor is based on bike and its spare parts. One other attraction is the tabletop made of trunk of the tree. Food quality and taste is above average. Service is prompt. Overall visit this cafe for its unique theme and location.

A beautiful cafe perched in the woods, its interiors are quite interesting and are great for taking good photographs. It may be a little difficult to locate but once you reach here, you'll be amazed by its surroundings. Now regarding the taste, pizza was good and the coffee seemed overpriced at first, then seeing the quantity the price seemed justified (both the quantity and the price could have been less). Service was slow but hospitality good.

A great experience at ML 05, so much so that we went there again for our breakfast after having our dinner two nights earlier. And when one goes back to a restaurant after having eaten once means that he/she has chosen to go there again which to me is a big reflection of the place, with that being the biggest feedback of that restaurant. So, you can go there for a good Italian dinner or a fantastic English breakfast on a bright & sunny day, even a cold day will give you the warmth with its interiors lit up with sepia tone. The route to ML 05 is pretty interesting with its unassuming, straight out of the woods and gives a feel of the horror movie Raaz scene. The food & the staff are truly amazing. In a nutshell, it's all pluses when you are going to ML 05. If you are in Shillong and not yet made a plan to go to ML 05, do pay it a visit because you will find it worth paying for it from your pocket, with a smile. Oh yes, they allow your pet to be kept at the entrance which was a very happy condition for us.
Shashi Ranjan — Google review
It's a place for some good time... The interior looks aesthetic, the entrance is good with lots of tall trees and a nice view. The evenings are best to say, with good lighting and a nicely presented decor. However, once you order the food, you realize how bad the food is . Everything is good about the place except the food. We ordered chicken wings , but it was not properly cooked and had no taste, the coffee was like that all in one packet of coffee, and the pizza was the worst. It felt as if they couldn't even afford the vegetables for the pizza. But the hospitality of the staff was good. So I'll suggest that if you want a place to click photos , go for it ..otherwise don't go for the food
