The Arulmigu Nellaiappar Temple is a Hindu temple complex constructed in the 17th century. It features two intricate towers that date back to the 7th century and is dedicated to Lord Siva. The temple boasts beautiful architecture, including a music hall where visitors can marvel at pillars representing the 64 notes of the Veena. Tourists are advised to visit early in the morning, between 6 and 7:30 am, to avoid crowds and secure parking.
One of the old temples for lord Siva. Beautiful architecture. Huge temple. You have got to go in the morning and experience the quite temple with just the chantings for the God. Decently clean temple. Would be good to read up on the temple and all the deities to see and see them and pray to them. The music hall is a must see. Will leave you in awe to see the way the pillars make the 64 notes of to the Veena. There is a temple elephant who is really beautiful. Going to the temple between 6 to 7.30 in the morning is ideal and you will find parking and the temple less crowded. This temple is not wheelchair accessible. Those elder who will have trouble climbing stairs.

A must visit temple. This is a temple for Swayambhu murthi Sri Nellaiappar (Lord Shiva)and his consort Kanthimathi Ambal. Uniquely you will find Lord Vishnu in a sleeping pose, next to the Shivan temple - signifying the oneness of Shiva & Vishnu. Understand that once upon a time, these were two separate temples adjacent to each other, but later these two were connected by building necessary structures by the reigning King, leading to a one big temple complex. Here you will find multiple small temples within the complex for Lord Vinayaka, Murugan, Devi, Ayappan, Kasi Viswanathar etc other than the temples for the two main dieties. The temple is full of unique sculptures including that of animals and demigods. Proof of the high level of artistry and skills the artisans who built the temple had. The main entrance to the temple has lot of unique carvings done on the wooden roof, which you cannot miss. Must see and hear are the "stone pillars" which give out the 7 notes of Carnatic music when tapped with the hand and a few pillars give the sound of south Indian musical instruments - just amazing.. For a huge temple, it's maintained quite well, especially in terms of cleanliness. However, more lighting in a few places would help devotees see and appreciate the amazing and the intricate carving done on stone. Also a better place needs to be made for footwear, currently all footwear are left at the main entrance, making it quite difficult to retrieve yours, they would have moved quite a bit or lying under a pile of other's footwear, when you come back after Darshan. All said and done if you are passing by Tirunelveli, Tamilnadu, this is a must visit place. Better, plan a trip to this temple.

A very good temple, with a very large area, extremely intricate designs and sculptures. It is one of the best place to visit in thirunelveli as it has an extremely good carvings, idols and atmosphere. This place's serene environment help a person in detaching itself from the regular fast-paced life. A highly devotional environment and a lot of different gods make this place worth visiting. The 4 star is given due to the attitude and greed of the priests, else this place is worth even more than 5 stars.

Divine. Temple owns the architectural marvel of musical pillars and other carvings which look like real life. Must visit the temple. Temple timings are 5:30am-12pm and 4pm-9pm. There is a luggage and shoe keeping center nearby.

We went in at 6am ......the temple was spick and span. People were there but the temple was not crowded. There are a lot of stories as to how Lord Siva got this name. The one which I connected most to was that they was a famine here and at that time Lord Shiva converted sand grains into food grains there by giving him the name Nellaiappar.

Good Experience - The sanctums of the temple and the gopurams were constructed by Nindraseer Nedumaran (Koon Pandian) who reigned in the 7th century AD. The mani mandapam with its famous musical pillar was also likely built by Nindraseer Nedumaran. The flag stand near the Nandi was set up in 1155.[2]Later Pandya, Kulasekara Pandyan I built the outer wall of the Thirunelveli Nellaiappar temple, in 13th century.

This is one of the classic and typical Temples of Tamil Nadu and exemplifies its culture. Lord Shiva known as Swami Nelliappar and compatriot Lord Gandhimathi Amman are the resting deities. Built in stone which is the innate and traditional way temples are built during olden and golden days. The stone sculptures and stone pillars a Exceptional. Marvelous. Treat to the eyes and mind . One can feel and immerse in the bhakthi and devotional mood when inside the temple. Very good transport facilities available. Must visit.

Great temple 🙏 Mesmerizing architecture.. can’t imagine how did they manage to build such a wonderful temple. Don’t forget to experience the musical 🎶 pillars just outside of the main temple. Keep the ears close to pillars and tap the pillars with palm ✋ then you hear the magical sounds 🙌

The Nellaiappar Temple is Hindu Temple dedicated to the deity Shiva, located in Tirunelveli, a city in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Shiva is worshipped as Nellaiappar (also called Venuvananathar) represented by the lingam and his consort Parvati is depicted as Kanthimathi Amman. The deity Vishnu is also worshipped here, having witnessed their wedding according to legend. Hence, this temple is regarded as an abhimana kshetram of Vaishnavism. The temple is located on the northern banks of Thamirabarani River in Tirunelveli district. We had visited during the weekend Sunday. There wasn't much crowd. Main Sanctum Nellaiappar is very powerful, you will feel positive vibes. And his consort called as Kanthimathi Amman. You get archanai ticket for 5/- bucks per person. For commuting to this temple if any one staying in hotel stays , I would suggest to go by Local bus. Here auto driver's charge around minimum 100-150 bucks depending on your stay location. Here the priest don't act rudely, very polite, we get ample time worship the God. They don't rush things in this temple. That's really good. The sculptures in this temple is just mind-blowing. Highly recommend Om Namah Shivaya🙏

Spread across 15 acres , this is one of the finest and largest temples of Tamil Nadu . And a treasure trove of Art . The ancient Pandyan shrine has been renewed , renovated and expanded by successive dynasties like Cholas, Cheras, Madurai Nayakas etc. , so the art and architecture seen here is an interrsting mix of styles. Since the region is close to Kerala , beautifully intricate woodwork can also be seen. In addition to life sized sculptures , Musical Pillars are an attraction. Presiding deity Shiva is called Venuvananathar or Nellaiappar and Parvathi , who has an independent sanctum, is Kanthimathi Amman. Religious significance : It is revered as the Thamira Sabha ( Copper Pavilion) , one of the five Sabhas where Nataraja danced his Ananda Thandavam . Six-time daily worship and annual Festivals are celebrated with great pomp. It is a :padal petra sthalam , sung by Nayanars .

Nallaiappar swamiand Kanthimadhi Tayaar temple in Tiruneveli is an awesome Shivaite temple. Probably the sabctul was built in 7th century by Pandya king to which the Cholas, Cheras,Pallavas and Nayaka have added making it one of the largest and beautiful Shiva temple. The surprise part us the large, beautiful ornamental idol of Lord Vishu in sleeping position immediately next to main deities gudi. Apparently Shiva and Parvathi got married here and Vishnu as being Parvathis brother after attending the marriage was resting. It's the Tamara copper sabha, one of the 5 sabhas where Shiva has performed his cosmic dance. The sculpture in the entrance and vasantha mandapa is so realistic that it takes away your breath. A true treasure of our culture. Donating vibhuti is very auspicious.

The place is beautiful especially on a rainy day. The route/road was very good. There is a small section for womens as well to take bath in the water fall. The nearby pool is very deep and not suggested. One does not need permission to go to the falls. The overhall height of falls is not as high as places like kutralam. There are no restroom, changing rooms or any shops nearby.

Need to buy tickets for falls by the check post near the dam and they charging for vehicle as well as for person. the entrance fee of 50 per person collected near Dam entrance forest checkpost. Manimuthar Waterfall is located a few kilometres from the dam. It offers an equally breath taking view. Tourists can enjoy a bath here and soak in the rich beauty of nature. The Manimuthar River begins from the Eastern slopes of the Western Ghats located in Tirunelveli district. The river is the chief tributary of the Thambaraparani River. The Manimuthar Dam is situated at the foothills of the scenic Podhigai Hills. It is built on Thamirabarani River. The area features marvellous natural beauty. A superb water falls better than court allam. A very less crowded place and water falling from not very height. So we can enjoy the bath fully. Water is very pure and crystal clear and very chill too. Both ladies and gents can enjoy the falls and the scenery on the way to the falls. Dress changing room is available for ladies and they need not worry about it. Located some 50 kms away from tirunelveli. Tickets can be purchased in the entry itself. Connecting road is also of good condition. No snacks or shops there So we have to take the necessary food in advance only.

We were lucky to have water flowing during our visit and enjoyed a refreshing bath under the waterfalls. The government should provide facilities for toilets at this tourist place which is much needed. Also there is lack of communications due to the absence of a mobile tower. I visited during the Jan 27th where less crowd or even no crowd i can say. One of the most significant dam and waterfalls in the state. It's a must-see destination for anyone traveling to the TN state! In addition to the stunning beauty of the falls itself, the road leading to Manimutharu WaterFalls is also a scenic treat! As I made my way towards the falls, I couldn't help but marvel at the rugged mountains that surrounded me, their peaks covered in lush greenery. The road winds its way through dense forests and picturesque countryside, offering spectacular views at every turn. I felt like I was on a journey through paradise! As I drove further up the winding road, I couldn't help but appreciate the raw and unspoiled beauty of the natural environment around me. The air was fresh and invigorating, and the cool breeze blowing through the trees was a welcome relief from the heat of the day. Overall, the journey to Manimutharu WaterFalls was just as enjoyable as the destination itself. If you're a nature lover looking for a truly immersive experience, I highly recommend taking the road less traveled and exploring the stunning natural beauty of this area. I have captured the same and I have uploaded here. Pros: ~ Beautiful scenery on the roads while reaching the falls ~ Decent parking space available Cons: ~ No restroom facilites ~ No proper dress change rooms or waiting rooms available ~ No Shops available

Vettuvan Kovil

Mentioned on

Historical landmark
Jain temple
The Vettuvan Kovil is a remarkable example of ancient architecture that is highly recommended for visitors to explore. Although the temple remains unfinished, it still showcases the impressive vision and hard work of the 8th century builders who carved this monolith from top to bottom on a rocky hillside. The finished portions are truly stunning works of great beauty, including a shikara that resembles Ellora's famous Kailasa.
In ancient times Kalugumalai ( Hill of the Vultures ) was known as Araimalai . In the east of this hill is Vettuvan koil & in the south , images of Tirthankaras are found on the rocks . Vettuvan koil is carved out of a huge single rock temple ( Monolithic ). This temple was excavated during 8 th century AD by Nedunjadaiyan Parantaka Varagunan I,the Pandyan king, though the temple is unfinished . Spectacularly decorated carvings are found in the vimanam . The temple has a small artha mandapam & garbhagriha , which now holds Lord Ganapathy . Amazingly carved figures of Umamaheswara , Dhakshina Murthy , Vishnu , Bramha. In the west you can see Narasimha , in the north Bramha , south Dhakshina Murthy .And at the four cornors you can see seated Nandis, now badly damaged.Believed to have been excavated some 40 yrs before the excavation of Kailasa temple of Ellora.

Vettuvan Koil in Kalugumalai, a panchayat town in Thoothukudi district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is a temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. Constructed in the Pandyan Architecture and rock cut architecture, the unfinished temple was built during the 8th century CE by the early Pandyas Vettuvan Kovil is an architectural masterpiece that left me awestruck. This ancient Tamil temple, located in Southern India, exudes a unique aura of grandeur and spirituality. The intricate stone carvings on the outer walls depict scenes from Hindu mythology, showcasing the incredible craftsmanship of the artisans from centuries past. The towering Gopuram (entrance tower) adorned with vibrant sculptures is simply breathtaking. As I stepped inside, the sense of tranquility washed over me, amplified by the soothing chants and the smell of incense. The sanctum sanctorum houses a captivating idol of the presiding deity, radiating divinity. The temple's preservation is commendable, offering visitors an authentic glimpse into our rich cultural heritage. A must-visit for history buffs, architecture enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a spiritual connection with the past.

ஆங்கிலத்தில் எழுதுவதற்கு மன்னிக்கவும். dt 12 - 09 - 23. After having a wonderful darshan in Kalugumalai murugan kovil, we asked people for the directions to this wonderful architectural master piece. We wanted to visit this place for a very long time. It is very close to the murugan temple. Need to walk, climb steps to reach this temple. Sad to note that the place was locked and there was no access to go and see it, but then a local told us to go around and use the small opening to get inside the fenced area so that we could see this master piece up close. Definitely not the way a tourist place should be maintained but then ..... Struggled a lot to go near and upfront of this kovil. seeing it, going around it, having a top view of this temple was something beyond words. Simply WOW WOW WOW. Called the ELLORA of the south, and done in the 8th century, historians believe that it must have been constructed using the top down approach same like in ELLORA. A treasure trove, worth seeing. Wish these places are highlighted by the tourism department.

Maruthi offers a dining experience with both positive and negative aspects. The rooftop restaurant provides a good ambiance and tasty food, but the service needs improvement. However, the cost of food is considered high for the portion sizes offered. The breakfast menu on the first floor remained unchanged for three days, leading to monotony for guests. It's suggested that they vary their offerings daily to provide more variety.
During our stay we tried roof top restaurant for dinner ambience is good and food taste also good only concern service need to improve. Cost of food is high for given quantity and in first floor restaurant we had breakfast for 3 days. No major change in menu. Can change the menu for day to day have same items for three days got bored.roof top can try for different ambience and to view the beauty of Tirunelveli.

The only thing decent about the restaurant was its ambience. We ordered three North Indian thali and one paneer pulao. The dishes were terrible. None of them had adequate salt. The only things they couldn't spoil were the ice cream, banana, and the payasam. The service was awful, too.

Very worst service, we have to wait for 45 min for single dosa, it will come in dry condition, if we ask abt it, they replyed that dosa will prepared in down stairs, so it will in this dry condition, rplying in rude manner. One of the most underrated hotel in tirunelveli, very worst seevice. Wait of money and time.

Very very worst service in ac restaurant, foods are not in good taste, waste of time and money, useless servers. No proper response from server, better to avoid this under rated hotel. No proper management. Worst behavior from security and servers.

Biryani restaurant
Hotel Aachees is a top non-vegetarian outlet in South TN, known for its excellent Seeraga Samba Biriyani with juicy mutton pieces and generous portion sizes. The staff provides excellent service and offers complimentary gravys with the biriyani, such as the heavenly Mutton bone & fat gravy. The restaurant also offers a variety of chicken and mutton dishes, including Tandoori options. Guests recommend trying the jigarthanda and praise the tasty fish items.
One of the best Non-veg outlets we experienced in South TN. Seeraga Samba Biriyani was excellent, adequate portion size and was with Juicy mutton pieces. The service was excellent with the staff ensuring we are satisfied with food. Gave us 3 different gravys (complimentary with biriyani), the one with Mutton bone & fat was heavenly. No complaints. Don't miss the beeda outside the hotel after you finish the lunch..

Had visited 3years back taste was so good…but today I visited and ordered parotta, kadai65 , kothu parota, and fried rice… very bad experience with food..too spicy and rate also too high….never expected this….

Poor service. Ordered a meal and fish fry. Fish fry costs Rs.230. not worth it. Meal i had to wait for each gravy. Waiting for the waiter. Waiting time is more than eating time.

A plate of peace. I loved mutton chukka
Sjvlogs — Google review
I have ordered meals, fried rice and chilly mushroom. Fried rice is avg like how we do in the home. Mushroom is ok but less quantity. Meals is worst. I have imagined like typical meals served in other hotels. But I am wrong. They serve only non veg curries and all are worst. So I am ended up eating with rasam and buttermilk. Atleast they should inform it when I order. For the price it is not worth. Only advantage is located in the main road.

Very good taste. Fish items are very tasty. Service and Supervision very good. Food items found costly. Floor and wash room cleaning has to be improved 😌.
Chenthil Kumar — Google review
Bit expensive & average quantity for Briyani. Grill / Tandoori chicken was good. Interior of AC dining hall is good. They don't have much beverages to have along with lunch. (Fresh Juice & good Soda 🥤 items are suggestible) Taste was good, but you can have much cheaper restaurants in tirunelveli with the same varities & taste.
vagar clicks — Google review
Overrated. Fish Curry was way too watery and bland. Nethili Fry tastes good but overpriced for the quantity. Four little pieces of nethili served in a bowl costs 110rs. Servers are busy chatting rather than serving.
Adiseshan K — Google review
Ordered mutton biryani and chicken 65 with bone. Briyani was average with very few mutton pieces in it. Overall: Too much price for average food.

The price is too high and the quality and quantity didn't worth it.

*Rooms are not clean and comfortable for stay. Here comes the billing. They played a game of tongue twister, with false payment assurances. What they mentioned in the message about billing amount and checkout time is completely different from the final bill, it's totally cheating... Go to other good restaurants till possible I warn you don't go there till I can*

Salem Sri Saravanaa Bhavan is a charming and peaceful hotel with a pleasant ambiance, offering traditional dishes like aapam, karupatti coffee, godhumai dosai, and idli upma. The sambar idli is highly recommended for its heavenly taste. The hotel has recently relocated to Palayamkottai from its previous location near Vanarapettai bridge. It offers both AC and non-AC dining options and provides quick service with hot food.
A great veg restaurant right off the road. Ample parking available both in front of restaurant and an exclusive parking area also is present. Neat and tidy. Calm and conforting ambience, delicious food and tidy work and wash area. All in all a happy experience. The mini tiffin is an awesome idea. A bit of everything and very satisfying. Strongly recommend it!

Pathetic Experience. Two of us went for lunch and ordered two meals. We asked for another cup of poriyal and the waiter said extra Kootu or poriyal is charged for 20Rs. I told him I've eaten in almost all the restaurants in Tvl and I've never heard of Charging for extra poriyal/ Kootu. There are places they charge for additional curd, Appalam, Ghee and Dhall. But not for Poriyal/ Kootu/ patchadi. Horrible

Hotel that is close to my heart. A pleasant and calm ambience. No crowd and no waiting happened so far. Food served is so tasty. They have traditional foods like aapam, karupatti coffee, godhumai dosai, idli upma etc... You must try their sambar idli, it is so heavenly. They have a road side parking but thats safe. The hotel was situated near Vanarapettai bridge previously but shifted to Palayamkottai a few months back. They have AC dining hall too. There is also a cafe outside the hotel. This time when we they had organic pumpkins for sale. Pumpkins were in all sizes small to big but they charged just Rs.10 for 1 pumpkin. They serve a super tasty pumpkin halwa. Do try it for sure. Overall this is my favorite hotel in Tirunelveli.

For all the vegetarians out there craving for a good morning coffee, this is one good outlet .The best part of this restaurant is HOSPITALITY.I was taken back by this act,of serving water initially at the very first interface even before the customer is ordering food...a basic gesture related to culture that l have been taught to keep our guests warm at home.'Lecker!' from German is what l would say for their cheese chappathi.l personally visit their restaurant to swallow their gulab jamun balls which are of a very unique taste..The price seems a bit high..but considering the hike in price of all other commodities and comparing the cost at other veg restaurant in tveli ...they do serve at a price alittle more than the decent one..lt is at the junction of highground, perumaalpuram road hence at peak hours PPL out there do not forget to sneakpeek here...😜

The food was so good. It's mostly like a home cooked food. Particularly we loved the dosa varieties. They are having this dosa varieties which is made of millets.that was so good. Totally recommend their food. And the sweets made out of palm sugar was also a hit..try them too

Went to try Sodhi and it's awesome. Some of my friends suggested this mess since I had cravings for Sodhi Kulambu (Dish made from buttermilk exclusive to Tirunelveli & Kanyakumari). The side dishes were also good. Would definitely recommend this place for vegetarian folks. Car parking and access to the mess is little problematic because of narrow congested roads but if you travel by motorcycle then it's not a problem.

Very expensive.for a normal meals they are giving for 120 rs with 2 side dishes and sambar.and for every extra side dish like ladies finder, cauliflower we have to pay 25 rs extra. And for parippu aslo we have to pay extra...not at all worth.🥵

A small simple vegetarian mess that serves good quality food that tastes great! We visited during lunch and took the INR 120 South Indian lunch option We were served 1 spinach kootu, an avial, and beans poriyal as sides. There was sambar, rasam, vathal kuzhambhu, and buttermilk along with paapad and pickle They also serve milk halwa, a sweet variety that is native to Tirunelveli at INR 30, so don't forget to try it! It tastes awesome! The food was unlimited and the service was top notch - we didn't need to wait even a second for the servings. It's an extremely small space that can accommodate between 8-12 ppl at a time, so during busy periods be ready to wait. Muthu Mess is closed on Sundays The location is a small lane beneath a flyover, so it's advisable if possible, to park elsewhere & walk or engage an auto to reach Muthu Mess Overall, Muthu Mess is an iconic part of Tirunelveli's rich food culture! A place that is not to be missed if you're in the locality!

This is a great place for authentic Nellai style vegetarian fare with traditional South Indian cuisine. They have some fantastic freshly made sweets each day like milk halwa and coconut laddoos. Their meals are great with Sodhi and a choice of vegetables that you can pay extra and have with your meal.

Taste and quality wise good but price and quantity wise bad for side dish. We have tried Gobi fry for that we need to pay 25 rupees but quantity is very less, same to other side dishes but meals will cost 100 rupees which includes two sde dish, unlimited rice, rasam, sambar, vatha kulambu and butter milk, specially for their pure vegetarian we can try for one time Cons: price of the side dish, parking Pros: taste and history
