Image of War - War Photography Museum

Museum
Art gallery
This museum is dedicated to photos of armed conflict, showing the horrors of war through the eyes of professional photographers. It also tells the stories of ordinary and innocent people caught up in wars.
Very moving and critical depiction of the war in Croatia during the nineties, focusing on the emotional and human impact of the war on all sides involved, and very much in contrast to portraying war as a glorious undertaking. A great mix of photography from Croatian, Serbian and international photographers that portray both the horror of war and find within that horror the human spirit of resilience and dignity. Very happy this museum has come into being and I wish it great success!
Dan McCrum — Google review
Extremely moving exhibition and the best place I’ve seen in Zagreb . The gallery assistant was wonderful and gave me lots of information about the war and discussed the exhibition with me afterwards . It’s only a small exhibition so if you’re in town you really have to go .
Abigail Os — Google review
Proof that a great exhibition doesn't need a lot of room. A must see for everybody who is interested in (war) photography and/or the war in Croatia in general. It would be great if some more information about the course and reasons of the war would be displayed. But since the museum is so young still five stars for the great work they did so far.w
B Spannenkrebs — Google review
Breathtaking! Absolutely amazing for an emotional experience of the war, without any forced political agenda. This museum shows not the big leaders and politicians but the "little people", who suffered from the political war.
Sif Stormly — Google review
I came across this little museum by complete chance and even though the collection is small is hits you where it hurts. The imagery is impactful and strong. It’s one of those places that you cannot miss.
Anshul Raja — Google review
Interesting and well-curated museum of photographs and stories from the 1991-1995 Croatian War of Independence. Despite that the museum is very small, I spent two full hours here. Staff was friendly, interesting and well-informed. It’s amazing to me that despite living just a few countries away during this time, I knew so little about what was going on then. I’m glad to have had the chance to see this museum, and highly recommend it.
Trish K. — Google review
Very interesting exhibition, with great explanations of our host!it will take you 1h: It was sober, with many points of view of both sides. (And it exists a ticket reduction for 2 people!)
Thibaud Soffiati — Google review
I’m so glad I stumbled upon this museum while exploring Zagreb, it is one of the best I’ve been to in Europe. It is small but with a lot of valuable info and photos packed in, although not too many to cause the guest to be overwhelmed or unable to take it all in. The photos are quite touching and upsetting and show the reality that war inflicts on everyday people on each side. The woman working at the desk was also quite passionate about the museum and we had a nice discussion about the exhibit. Stay and watch the short videos and read the excerpts downstairs, as well :)

Zagreb 80's museum

Mentioned on

A fun museum in Zagreb that takes you back to the 1980s and offers a great way to learn about everyday life during Communist rule. With displays set up like a family home and clothes from the era to try on, it's an enjoyable experience for all age ranges.
I'm from 80's. It was nice to remember those time. Many items are familiar. Good museum with proper 80's vibe. It was so fun to play arcades - really first games that were extremely popular. Come and feel spirit of 80's!
Alexey Trishin — Google review
Fun place to feel the 80s vibe. You can touch and interact with everything, made pics and even play some arcade games! When we came there, there was almost no one, so the whole 80-s flat was just for us.
Anna Magmel — Google review
Great museum in the city center! It has so many interesting items from the 80's and also the music inside the museum is from 80's. The guy in the reception of the tickets and his dog are so kind!
elpida pan — Google review
This is the cutest museum. It’s set up as a house in the 80s, with a living room, kitchen, gaming room, and bedroom. The lady running tickets was very kind! They have a variety of cool drinks at the ticket booth. All of the rooms have magazines, books, and technology that you’re allowed to touch and mess with. You can also try on all of the clothes and get really cute photos! (The lady working the desk also offered to take photos of me!) At the end in the games room, you can actually play games on the machine. Very cool experience and I would absolutely recommend! 👾🕹
Regan Williams — Google review
Really cool museum! You can literally touch everything, open all the drawers and interact with all the things there. There are several different rooms that you can explore. Only thing I had wished to see more of would have been some written descriptions of the things, but maybe that's just me. However, their staff was lovely and offered to take a photo of me in the car they have there. Overall a great experience!
Cynder Aryan — Google review
Such an amazing place! When I entered the apartment I felt like entering a black hole that took me right back to the Yugoslavian 80's. It is a must see!
M D — Google review
Museum is a three-room apartment filled with furniture, things and small details from the 80s of the last century. Such a time machine takes you back to the years of my childhood, everything is very familiar and dear to memory. You will see old computers and slot machines working. Many things from Yugoslavia during those years. very nostalgic experience
Dmitrii Dorozhkoff — Google review
This museum transported my dad back in time and introduced new things for me ( age 14) like he almost had a heart attack lol when he saw the Commodore 64 and the thick vhs thing all in all of you are my dads age you will have fun. Also make sure to look at the hair ripper outter it is a little goofy looking it looks like a heating device
Orlando L — Google review
The museum was very cool and the 80s were very well represented. If you are from a Slavic country or from a former USSR country then it looks just like tour grandma’s house. You can touch everything and explore different rooms. The museum, however, is relatively small. Doesn’t take a lot of time to go through it.
Ingrid Tamvere — Google review
A very nice museum if you like the 80's. I love it because you can have an interaction with everything. Even you can play with old joysticks. Nice work guys.👍🏻
Eleni — Google review
This museum is an apartment which has been preserved as it was in the 1980s, with about 20% of additional material. It really does feel like stepping back 40 years, and the rooms feel as if their inhabitants have only just left. You can sit in the chairs , flick through the photo albums and recipe cards, marvel at the horrible taste of some things and the stylish design of (a few of the) others. The highlight for me was a room with working 1980s electronic and computer games. Also, the curator was very helpful and informative (and gave us some great restaurant tips, too).
Mike Goldsmith — Google review
Nostalgic dream for anyone born and raised in former Yugoslavia or even later, especially for older generations. You can really feel the spirit of the 80's Zagreb as if you go back in time. It's interactive museum so you can touch and feel everything. Absolutely must-see place for anyone who grew up in former Yugoslavia and authentic and interesting for everyone else.
Stefan Jovanović — Google review
Nice back-to-the -80s-and-touch-everything museum. Liked the fact you can play arcade games like Pacman and Donkey Kong. Downside is tickets can only be bought by cash though not sure if it is temporarily or not. Not wheelchair accessible.
Ksenija Andrasevic Pataran — Google review
Come with small cash and a bit of 80s nostalgia (real or fabricated 😉).We had a great time and found the 5.50 E well worth it to poke and rummage around. My husband and I loved being able to flip through books and magazines and try out everything: the perfect way to be out of the summer sun. The young guy at the desk was very polite and helpful. We had a great time.
Lana Lea — Google review
Oh what a gem for all of us who grew up in Yugoslavia. Visiting this museum brought back so many nice memories. We also loved that the museum is interactive! Cannot recommend this museum enough!
Iris Bremec — Google review
Such a fun place and totally interactive!! You can touch, try on and play with anything and everything. So many memories....
Lia Padilla — Google review
This museum took me back to the 80's (which is the whole idea) and even our cultures are so distant (Colombia and former Yugoslavia) it's amazingly astonishing how similar we used to live and the devices we had. Also the fact that you can touch the objects to make photos of them and with them on if you like. I highly recommend every body to visit this place, it's totally worth!

Sljeme

Mentioned on
Mountain peak
Sljeme is a renowned mountain peak located above Zagreb known for its scenic beauty and winter sports center. The mountain offers different routes to reach the top, including hiking, biking, and cable car. It is around 8 to 10 KM from the base and has one fort for exploration. At the summit lies the RTV tower built in 1973 standing at an impressive height of 169 meters.
Mountain top overlooking Zagreb. We were going to go up using the gondola but arrived 1 minute before closing so they didn't let us in. We were lucky! Because the drive up is absolutely amazing -- lots of exposed turns so be careful! Once up there we were rewarded with amazing views of the city and the valley behind the mountains. There is a hotel and ski hill up there. The ski hill was already closed (mid-March), but looks like a fun place for people from the city.

Slijeme mountain is a treat for highkers. It has different route to reach to the top. One can reach to the top by hiking, biking and cable car as well. Hill top is around 8 to 10 KM from the base. It has one fort as well. You can get chilled beer, coffee, tea, soft drinks, apple struddle on the restaurant at the top.

Just outside of downtown Zagreb is beautiful Sljeme mountain with its dense forests, hiking trails and fresh air. An easy escape to the great outdoors without really leaving the city.
Erica Walker — Google review
To get there from Zagreb Centre take the tram 14 to Mihaljevac (last stop). Then cross the road to the bus stop with a bench beside it so the furthest road from the white building. Then hop on the bus 140 to Sljeme - it comes once every hour. They’re are a few stops on the way by the bus for example it stops at the cable car which you can get off and use to go up to Sljeme. We took the bus all the way to the top and then took the cable car (60hrk single trip) back down which was lovely. I assume you can get the same bus back down. Once you get up there you can hike for miles, there are several routes. Or use the ski/sports centre or just admire the views with some good or a beer. Lovely place just outside of Zagreb which is easy to get to. I highly recommend!

Sljeme is the highest peak of Medvednica mountain, northern of Zagreb, the Capital of Croatia, an EU member state. If translated to English, Medvednica would be a Bears Mountain. Since it's Zagreb is close to the mountain, the local popular name is also Zagrebačka gora or Zagreb's mountain. It is large and massive, suited from practically almost West to North-East. The green forests provide several supports to Zagreb. One is from the cold and sometimes mighty Northern winds. The other is the vast amount of oxygen, making living in Zagreb, especially in its Northern suburbs more pleasant. Normally, the roads lead to various lodging and dining places, all the way to Sljeme itself. There are many mountaineering paths for people willing to walk up and down from these popular places. There's also a cable car, from Šestine (down) up to near peak Sljeme itself. And once you get to the top, there are several recreational areas used by Zagreb inhabitants and visitors all year long. They include also skiing paths, open in Winter, some prepared with artificial snow for local and international racing, including the traditional FIS Alpine Ski World Cup "Snow Queen Trophy" race. It is the closest race to any world large city or state Capital. At the peak Sljeme, there is a 110 m tall radio/television/communications tower with mane antennae covering the town of Zagreb and surrounding Zagreb County with aerial ground emitting RTV signals. High in the tower is a rotating restaurant, that was closed for some longer period, and there are plans to reopen it. The closest lodging and dining place is Tomislavov Dom, named after the first Croatian King Tomislav, who ruled 12 centuries back. Prepare to visit Sljeme and "Sljeme" - the popular local name for the entire mountain, and to have a good time with friends and family!

Sljeme is the top of the mountain Medvednica, a mountain above Zagreb. It is located at 1033 meters above sea level. At the top is the 169-meter-high RTV tower, built in 1973

Park Maksimir

Maksimir Park is a large and well-maintained park in the center of Zagreb. It is a family-friendly space with many paths, lakes, and wildlife. The Echo Pavilion was built in the late 1800s, and it is one of the nicest places in Zagreb.
The largest and most beautiful park in Zagreb, which is home to many species of birds. Unfortunately, the hiking trails are poorly maintained, especially in the northern, forested part of the park, so half of the trails are practically impassable from the mud for days after heavy rain. Very relaxing for walk or just to sit on bench and relax. Little bit of peace in city rush life.

We did not fully experience because we were short on time. But its a nice place with ice cream vendors. You can relax for a couple of hours there
Georges Maalouf — Google review
Park is huge and great runaway from city crowd. Located near to center and close to stadion it is great solution for all day walk. After park go to ZOO and fish on a coffe or lunch in the restaurants that are close to the park
Damir Turkovi? — Google review
An unexpected piece of nature in the city center Maksimir is a very nice park, with many routes and various nice views. Invaluable add to an already nice city like Zagreb, as this park gives the opportunity to relax and cool from the heat, while taking a walk under the trees. I really loved it, congratulations to the Zagreb citizens and the municipality also for being able to keep it clean as I saw it.
Alessio Vicario — Google review
Very nice park. Unfortunately we visited in early March and the trees had not turned green. Very good for walking, picnicking, walking the dog, and running. Ideal also for children with the playground.
ΧΡΗΣΤΟΣ ΧΡ — Google review
Nice, big. The children playground is very muddy and there are not so many child slides, swings, as might expacted.☹ but very crowdy and nice to walk there.😀 thank you Zagreb.
Gaber Zidar — Google review
The best park in Zagreb! The place is like jungle, after you ender you forgot that you are still in a city! Inside you can find cafeteria's, restaurant and patisseries in different areas of the Park. During summer time there is a lot of shade perfect for activities, picnic or just time to relax.. For the kids also in the area they have a Zoo!
Vasilis Karakostas — Google review
Very scenic park. It pretty much has it all. There are several cafes there. There are ponds or lakes depending on your interpretation of them. There are completely secluded trails. There are also well lit areas for walks.
Ghassan Abuelian — Google review
Quiet park near the stadium. We visited the park in winter but despite that it was still quite fascinating. The walkable paths are very well kept, clean and you can walk there with any type of shoe, it was not uncommon to find people running. Inside the park you can find the zoo, restaurants and bars. Unfortunately we didn't have time to visit the entire surface of the park because it is quite big. At the entrance behind the restaurant there are some bathrooms, not the cleanest but a good option nonetheless.

One of the most beautiful parks in Zagreb, I go there every time I want to walk and be surrounded by nature, there are spaces where it is possible to be completely alone and feel calm.
K-neda Pris — Google review
A beautiful park, if you are visiting Zagreb, it is a must-see point to visit, I love walking through its green forest and its lagoons. My favorite spot to walk on Sundays and have a good coffee.
Maibeth Henriquez — Google review
It's a huge park! But it is very dated and has remained in the years of the Soviet era, while that is really 34 years ago now. It is poorly maintained, everywhere signs of the Zoo that is around the corner with pictures of an elephant, an animal that to my knowledge has never been there, at least not now. There are plenty of benches, also a lot of water, but it doesn't look clean, there was a storm here a week ago, so there is storm damage everywhere. Seriously, a week later and people couldn't remove trees in tourist spots, but they could be cordoned off with ribbons in the middle of the path? For the people with the illusion like us that Croatia is cheap because it is South East Europe and lags behind to North West Europe, I help you out of that dream, the prices are the same or higher almost everywhere. The reports about misuse of the conversion from the Kuna to the Euro are completely correct. Everything is twice as expensive and that has nothing to do with inflation. Inflation is 6.6% worldwide in worst case scenario, 7.6 in Croatia in the worst case.... This price increase denotes 110% this is a 103% difference! 'Unexplainable'!
Will ToLive — Google review
Easily the best park in Zagreb and also the oldest (founded in 1787) and biggest (780 acres). I love the variety of landscapes present here; from wide open meadows, numerous lakes and wonderful woodland. Even on a busy weekend you can get away from the crowds if you head into the woods in the heart of this park. There is a nice Caffè on the hill with good views and plenty of benches dotted around the park to sit and relax.
Miles Macdonald — Google review
An ideal park for outdoor activities! Maybe the most beautiful park in Europe.

This Park and Zoo are one of the best things to do in Zagreb! Easy tram ride to get there. Tram ticket is very cheap and trams are nice. Lari & Penati is a restaurant with a cool and modern interior, located on Petrinjska street in the city center. The chefs use fresh and local market finds to create a wide variety of gourmet dishes that changes every day. The prices are affordable for all budgets, and the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting.
This place is truly a gem. I had roast beef salad, fried potatoes with garlic aioli and choco torto. The roast beef is literally melt in the mouth, I love the well balanced vinaigrette dressing drizzled over it. The garlic aioli is so flavorful over well salt fried potatoes. The choco torto is dense yet moist. This place is truly worth coming back again!

This is a good choice for a bit during the day, offering a limited but well executed list of dishes. The portions are very decent, the presentation of the dishes visually pleasing and the food itself well prepared. The service was fast (though it was a mid-week, rainy, late afternoon, so not busy at all) and there is an option to sit in or out. Overall, a good experience although I found that the prices to be a little bit on the higher side for what is on offer.
Kalliope Tsouroupidou — Google review
The only good thing of this place is the wine. Food is average and price is according to the quality OK. What I hate about it is that the staff ask for tips and for me is not an outstanding place that deserve some tips. We decided not to give a tip and suddenly his behaviour changed to a rude mode. Overall, do not go there.

We had our last meal in Croatia here before getting on the night train - and what a great way to end the vacation! We had sardines, quiche, eggplant parmigiana and grilled goat cheese salad, all were very tasty and beautifully presented. Also, delicious wine by the glass. Vegetarians will enjoy many options on the menu. Highly recommended.

The place was near an airbnb flat where we stayed, so we gave it a go. I think food and wine are a fair for the price we paid. I enjoyed the salad with cheese. However, I would suggest other places if you have time to get to the centre of Zagreb. But this place is great for a light meal or drink if you are staying around the area.

Food is delicious and portions are pretty good:-) Pair it with wine and good company and you'll be happy🥰 There are tables inside and outside, but as they are all tall tables, avoid coming here with kids and older people. It's a stylish place for a quick brunch with friends:-)

Excellent experience. We had the Cabernet which was very pleasant. Jammy but not sweet. Kids had the pasta with meatballs and the steak. Pasta was fresh and the steak was juicy. Wife had the ribs which were fall-off-the-bone good with a lightly sweet tinge to a woody (chestnut?) flavor. I had the grilled goat cheese salad which was a great compliment to the ribs. Cheese cake and chocolate cake were likewise excellent. Would return if we were in town again and there weren't many other options. Reading the older reviews, im guessing they have really stepped up their game.

OMG, you guys gotta check out this Croatian restaurant I just went to! It's right in the city center, like literally two steps from the train station. I'm telling ya, the food is super affordable, and the service is super fast. I had an amazing lunch for just 15 euros! They've got some really good wines and beers too. If you're not sure what to order, I'd def recommend the chicken drumsticks or the pork ribs with potato salad. Yum! Don't miss out on this place, it's a real gem!

The food was really good, portions were fine. The restaurant has a romantic dating vibe. Waiters are helpful and polite, and even though we (unknowingly) arrived not long before the kitchen would close, they made an effort to accommodate us. Prices are a bit too high for my taste though, the food and cocktails tasted good but I still left thinking I’d rather have spent less. I’m sure this is not a problem to everybody, so I still leave the 4 stars. Just be aware of the tourist prices.

The best food we had in Split by far! I wish I could bring this place home with me. The staff was also very nice and accommodating for our toddler. We only had a chance to eat breakfast here and it was amazing; I wish we had a chance to try lunch. The fluffy eggs were our favorite item - perfection might not describe them well enough. The sunny side up eggs were very good, cooked and seasoned perfectly. And the banana bread was fantastic.

We had such a great experience this evening! Service was very courteous! The lamb for main dish totally Tender & the tacos as starter delicious. We had some cocktails, can also be recommended. Great quality, service, and ambiance. Lovely service from our waiter. Food was fresh, high quality and beautifully plated. Bread was very very good, you can tell it was made fresh that day and with a cared for sourdough starter. I personally loved the bread with the seeds in it. We went for a late lunch and ate dishes from the starters side of the menu. The dishes listed on the Mains side of the menu sounded stunning be we weren’t that hungry for a heavier meal. We all want to go back for dinner before leaving Split. 10/10 would recommend.

The best meal we have had in Europe. The service was phenomenal, the waiter was so attentive to us. The food was amazing, a little bit more pricey but worth it. We ordered the Codfish spring roll & the Bombolini’s Then for mains we had Black Risotto - the flavours and textures were fantastic! The best risotto we have had. & the Rib Eye steak - we have never had better steak, the truffle mash deserves an honourable mention, I could have eaten a plate of just the mash and been happy. If I could give more stars I would!they deserve 11!!

Solid experience. Service was efficient, drinks were good and menu had good choices. We got the fried shrimp arincini (see other name on menu) - good. The oxtail risotto (good) and lamb shank (good). The risotto had a slightly u underdeveloped tomato sauce. Either that or they used too much sugar which is a big no no for anyone who makes their own sauce.

We made a reservation the day before for a Saturday night and had then chance to have an availability. It was for a birthday diner. The restaurant is very well decorated, the design is well thought, and the food is exceptional. We ordered: - Gnocchi - Sea bass - Black risotto Best risotto I have ever eaten, it was simply delicious. The texture of the rice was perfect, a good quantity, I really really recommend it. My two friends tasted it and said it was the best dish out of the three The gnocchi are excellent, airy and with great amount of pistachio sauce. The sea bass was very delicious, fresh fish. The waiter surprised my friend with a birthday gesture, it was very cute. In all, a very good experience, I recommend.

Recently, I spent 10 days in Croatia & Slovenia, and the lunch I had at Bokeria in Split was by far, the best meal I had of the trip... Maybe the best meal I've had in recent memory. Bokeria is situated in the labyrinth of central Split, so you get to walk this beautiful maze before dining exquisitely. There were five of us eating, and was so much delicious food I don't know where to begin. The atmosphere is gorgeous - it's actually quite a large place. Warm panelling on the walls and a chandelier hangs from the central dining area. I can only imagine the atmosphere for dinner time. Regardless of what it looks like, the food was unbelievable. We had many dishes: buratta on grilled blood oranges, crispy fried bombolini, cuttlefish ink risotto, a lamb shank, an octopus (fantastic portion size), a codfish spring roll, and an order of gnudi. I'm at a loss to try and determine which dish was the best. I can't say enough about each plate. It is a bit pricey, but I can without a doubt say that it was worth every euro. Service was phenomenal. Five stars all around and I can't wait for another opportunity to go back to Split, mostly because I can eat at Bokeria again.

Wow. This place is awesome. The hostess is so nice and absolutely gorgeous. Wow. And if I wasn’t horny enough, the drink menu was biblically horny. Great touch. Aside from the staff being wonderful the food was also biblical. Left so full [like sean]. I’m here for work for the next 3 weeks. I’ll be back for sure. Not pictured was my espresso martini. That was sensational.

Surprises of the evening were the black risotto and the burrata which were both amazingly stellar dishes. The burrata was quite an amazing take on a traditional dish. Overall we really enjoy this restaurant whenever we’re in split, and it’s certainly a lovely space for some good food, whine and lovely ambiance.

Bokeria Split is an absolutely fantastic place to enjoy some really nice and delicious food. The atmosphere is amazing and the staff is also very nice and friendly. Highly recommended.

Looking back at the pictures of our time at Bokeria makes my mouth water. Funny and oddly enough, AI suggested me this place. I asked AI as a joke, never though we would go through with it, but after seeing the menu, we were so delighted we decided to go back, line up and give it a try. Definitely cannot be mad at AI since we had such a splendid evening. Service was spectacular, our waiter was super professional and provided excellent recommendations. Everything we had, from wine, appetizers, entrees to desserts was immaculate. Oxtail risotto is one of my highlight from my trip in Croatia (even though we had a bunch of seafood risotto, it was nice having a delicious meat risotto). Basically, I don't trust AI much, but for this one, I must give it an A+ on it's recommendation!

If you're looking for a delicious meal in Split, be sure to check out Mazzgoon. This quirky restaurant has an eclectic menu that draws on the magic of Mediterranean cuisine. The courtyard setting is gorgeous and romantic, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a meal.
Had a great meal in here. Lovely service, fantastic food and great location. There is a small courtyard in the back, away from the busy streets which gave it a nice, quieter atmosphere than most other restaurants with seating on the street. Highlights were the charcuterie board, slow cooked pork pasta and the tuna steak
Rhys Canning — Google review
Nicely decorated and with a bit of flair. The food was very good. I tried the deconstructed tartar and the pork steak. The steak was very soft and tender like pulled pork. Probably received a few hours of love in some oven. The tartar looked like a burger patty outside but raw and soft on the inside. Unique; as one would expect, from a bit of tartar experience, that it be red. Also both dishes had a splash of hot sauce on the side that allowed me to experiment a bit with the flavors. Local wine selection was also decent. I have to add though that the service was not the fastest or most attentive. To be fair the restaurant was empty when I dined there. A bit more interest by the waiter would have escalated this rating by one star.

Very nice food. Service pretty good. Lovely place in general. Prices fair. My rabbit ragout was lovely. Mrs T liked her tiger prawn salad. Just felt slightly looked down on. You can hear the chef singing from the patio and the music in the open kitchen is audible over the quite loud inside background music. But still good value over all. would go back but not rush back.

Mega place to eat and drink! Just stumbled across this, started with a cocktail in the tiny bar while we waited for a table, then sat in the restaurant listening to the live music. The food was amazing, so different to anything else I’ve had in Croatia. I think the Tuna starter is a real showcase dish, definitely worth trying! The monkfish was just perfect and the portion size were just right. Great wine - great atmosphere - great night!

Great restaurant with really interesting menu. They really are different so if you're a foodie then this is a great place for dinner. The menu is sparse with detail so definitely make sure to ask the serving staff for more info. Things often aren't what they seem (but in a good way).
Jamie Tikaani — Google review
A spectacular dining experience. Interesting dishes with a local twist. The courtyard does not feel crowded even if the restaurant is full. A great selection of wines and knowledgeable waiters to recommend dishes and pairings. The rabbit ragut is a must try in town.

We found this place quite by chance and lucky for us as it was a fabulous evening. The staff couldn't do enough for us, giving us the perfect table out side under the stars. The food is lovely, prepared with pride and attention to detail. Each course was more delicious and the Croatian wines were a revelation. The twist with the mussels were a delight, the pork was scrumptuous as was the pasta and veal. We enjoyed the food, wine, atmosphere and staff so much we went twice during our 8 days in Split. Highly recommend and will of course be back.

Great menu , amazing location. We sat in the lovely courtyard flanked by the palace walls. Food and waitstaff were top notch!

The staff was very polite, welcoming and helpful, and we got properly introduced to their menu offerings. Always alert and happy to help out with any requests. The food was simply delicious, and although the menu was a bit reduced due to the seasonality, we still had a great dinner. Nice and cozy atmosphere.

Beautiful venue. My tuna was so fresh and cooked to perfection. Loved the smokey flavour. The pork was also sensational and melted in your mouth. Friendly service with a 5* touch.

Top-notch dining experience in Old Town with a personal touch. Being part of a family with multiple establishments in the Las Vegas restaurant scene since the 60s, I can truly appreciate exceptional hospitality. Upon arrival, the owner's warm greeting sets the tone, standing out among other places lacking in the art of first impressions. The service, exemplified by our server Toma, was impeccable. His affable demeanor, extensive knowledge of food and wine, and keen attention to detail matched the level of a 5-star establishment. Of course, the highlight was the outstanding food. From the endive salad to the rabbit ragu, mezzo paccheri, and concluding with a delightful tiramisu, each dish was a burst of flavors impeccably cooked and artfully presented. The wine selection also complemented the meal beautifully. For fellow restaurateurs and servers, this experience at Mazzgoon is a masterclass in successful operation, far surpassing the norm. Their expertise shines from the front of the house to the back. This restaurant's excellence could easily thrive even in Vegas, where many from old town would shutter before their first month due to lackluster of service and mediocre cuisine.

Outstanding local restaurant with excellent food and vibe. We started with the deconstructed beef tartare and ordered the octopus under iron and tuna stake as main and we couldn’t be happier. Everything was delicious and cooked perfectly.

The food was really good and the place is nice and cozy to sit. We felt uncomfortable by the waiter. He was pushy with the wines. And when we told the waiter the glasses of wine were “half” glasses, he was laughing at us and asked if we are americans. I think that is not the way to treat your clients.

Great atmosphere, service and food. We ordered a number of dishes to share between three and enjoyed everything — the porcini carbonara was probably my personal favourite. We also ordered the cheapest white wine on the menu and it was delicious!

The food at Mazzgoon is SO GOOD. We had the rabbit ragout and chicken pate. A couple critiques would be slow service, small wine pours and loud (country?) music.

For those on a tight budget who still want to savor the finest Croatian cuisine, Buffet Fife in Split is the ideal choice. Situated in the emerging Veli Varos neighborhood, historically renowned for its fishermen, this well-established establishment provides an authentic local dining experience with nonchalant service, boisterous kitchen staff, communal tables and affordable wine.
Our Uber driver recommended this place and we absolutely loved it. Everything we ordered was delicious! The fried squid was my favorite, but everyone loved everything. Friendly service, nice atmosphere with outside seating. Good prices. Highly recommend.

Simple, but delicious food. Fish soup is actually a bullion without any pieces of fish. Good value for money! Great and friendly service. It’s possible to pay by card and to take the food away if you prefer to eat on a promenade. The welcoming waitress even gave us some salt to take away.

Very good place if you would like to try the local food! Traditional dishes, with plenty of food and excellent service! We ordered two traditional dishes to try: Black risotto and another with meat. The price is also lower than what we saw in other places here in Croatia.

Nice place, great staff. We got the tuna pate, fried squid and bread. We came for a snack but it ended up being pretty much our dinner. The squid came with fries which was a pleasant surprise. Food was lovely and the house wine was fantastic and very cheap. We got a litre of it between two and by the end of our meal it was pretty much gone. We live in Scotland so the name amuses us and made our decision to eat here. We originally wanted to go to “The Old Terrace” next door but it looked abandoned/closed. Maybe not open yet for summer, but it was 1st June. The squid was great too, loads of it and lovely mayonnaise dip. And the bread was very nice indeed. Great place.

We came to this restaurant 3 nights out or 5 nights in Split! The food was good, large portions, half price of everywhere else, 500ml of house wine for €8. We went to other restaurants in town for dinner and lunch and were disappointed every time, bad food, small portions and expensive. Fried squid was delicious, local sausages loved them, black fish risotto a must try, the schnitzel was not the pan fried beef as I know but delicious anyway.

Very popular place due to low prices and good food quality. It also popular among locals. I was visiting with my mother who was sick. The guy with tattoos sat us at the corner table outside. We agreed at first but then realized it was too windy and my mom wasn't feeling well. We asked to change the table. We even agreed to go back to line. He refused. Pros: FAST service, HUGE portion sizes, VERY REASONABLE prices, OK customer service (better than average in similar tourist areas in Croatia), nice ambiance especially indoors, a lot of sitting options, servers speak good English and treat customers alright.

Great Croatian food. Hot and comforting (goulash) and amazing portion sizes (mixed grill especially). Be sure to triple check any allergies you might have - we were almost served an allergen despite mentioning it twice. Oops!
Laura Wild — Google review
We went based on the good Google reviews but we did not understand the hype about this restaurant, the food is average and the customer service is terrible! The wine selection is really poor and the most “quality premium” one is quite awful. At least the grilled vegetables were tasty
Kim Dulon — Google review
Went here following the recommendation of hotel host, saying it’s local food with half price of those tourists’ area. Shared table as it was already getting busy. Didn’t order anything fancy, just copied the dish from my neighbor — chicken with mushrooms source/smashed potato. Portion is big, but It was so good that I finish the whole plate. Vibe is vivid and cozy, but quite difficult to find table at peak hour. Waiter was good too

This place was recommended to us by a Croatian guy and it was definitely worthy. Their food portions are very generous, and their menu includes many options of local food. We were seating in the terrace which has a really nice atmosphere and view. Service and prices were really good, and they also accept credit card payments which was not so easy to find around the city. Really nice place!
J Wiek — Google review
Usually, it's a queue to enter the place, but definitely, it's worthy! We waited about 15min until a table got free. We ordered typical Dalmatian food for dinner. Must try the cabbage rolls and the lentils with barley (as a vegetarian option). Ordering the season salad is not really necessary best choice as the salad is nothing special. The service was good and you can pay in cash or card.

Finally a decent place in split with good food and affordable prices. -taste&quantity: very tasteful homemade style food in quite big portions. Patty stuffed with cheese was delicious. My friend had fried calamari and was well prepared. -price: 2 beers, 1 salad, 1 water, 1 calamari and one Patty for 45€ - service: really polite and fast...willing to explain details about dishes -Atmosphere: a place close to the port, old style traditional restaurant. Excellent choice for Split!

As promised, this place does not skimp on the portions - very generous! Highly recommend the pasticada- beef stew with gnocchi equivalent. The gravy was absolutely superb, good portion of meat as well. The black cuttlefish risotto however was a major disappointment. We have had this dish a few times in Croatia this holiday and our experience in other places was much better. I would have appreciate less quantity and more quality. The risotto had a bit of a ‘sticky’ texture to it, something I’ve not experienced before.

Reasonably priced for the amount of food but the food was nothing special. We ordered the mixed grill + fries and squid + fries. The squid was nice, but the meat was salty and not very flavourful

Excellent food, fast, friendly service and good prices. We ordered the cuttlefish risotto and chicken with mushroom sauce. To be honest, I don't know which dish I liked better. Both were delicious. You can't go wrong with this place.

Walked right in with the 4 of us. Very busy. OK service. We had several local dishes very reasonably priced. We had goulash, ceviappi, cabbage dish all had flavor and were cooked and presented well.

This restaurant, located in the Promenade of Split, is a must-try. While their prices are a bit high, the quality of the dishes is fantastic. When we went, there was a long line, but they have both indoor and outdoor seating, so the wait wasn't long. We chose outdoor seating, which had a charming vibe. We ordered Mixed Meat, Grilled Sea Bass, and Dark Beer. The food quality was exceptional, and the fish dish stood out. We had a minor issue with a dark beer, but they quickly replaced it. Despite being packed, the service was prompt. I highly recommend it.

Delicious seafood stew! Just what I needed on a rainy day. The spot has an amazing location right by the water, yet it’s very reasonably priced and the portions are filling. Loved the service too, very friendly and attentive. Great spot for local cuisine, will be going back!

I had an incredible dining experience at Buffet Fife in Split! The food was amazing – we tried the fried squid, chicken fillet with mushroom sauce, and grilled sea bream, and each dish was absolutely perfect. To complement our meal, we ordered both beer and wine, and they paired wonderfully with our dishes. What made this meal truly outstanding was not just the food, but also the welcoming atmosphere and the fantastic vibe of the place. It was clear that the staff put a lot of effort into creating a warm and enjoyable environment for diners. And to top it all off, the pricing was incredibly reasonable. This restaurant offers not just delicious food but also great value for the quality and experience you receive. I can't recommend it enough – it was a perfect dining experience!

Restaurant the locals tell you to go to and now we know why ! The food is tasty, and the portions are huge ! They are very busy ( and full of tourists), but you can probably get a table after a few minutes' wait. I recommend getting the black risotto ( even share it . it's that big ! ) Good selection of beers and ciders 😊

Located amidst the pine trees with a picturesque view of Firule Bay, Dvor is an exceptional international eatery and lively bar. Recognized by both Michelins Guide and Gault & Millau as one of the top dining establishments in Split, Dvors diverse menu showcases a harmonious blend of meat and seafood dishes inspired by traditional Dalmatian cuisine.
Stunning dining experience for astoundingly reasonable prices! We went for a couple's dinner at this elegant spot with a romantic seafront view - gorgeous atmosphere. The meals we had were genuinely some of the best of our lives! My partner had the cevice and the pašticada while I had the pea soup and the venison gnocchi. Very sophisticated decadent food cooked to absolute perfection! We can't wait to be back. Special mention goes to our server (unfortunately didn't catch his name) who was super friendly, polite and made us laugh and feel comfortable. 10/10!

Very nice location close to the sea. Had the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing (Croatian wines). Got 5 courses with 5 glasses of wine plus 3 small bonus courses. Overall the food tasted good and looked very fancy, but for my personal taste there could have been some more seasoning. However the wine pairing was really good with the food and really made the food taste better. My absolute favorite was the dessert - it was super delicious. The parsley ice cream was an interesting experience and "pause" before it was time for the main lamb dish which was also very delicious. I also had a beer and ended with a cappuccino which was really good. Paid about 1200hrk all in all excluding service. Service on its own was really good and friendly. Portion sizes was perfect for this amount of courses and I went from there not hungry, still not full (I hadn't eaten any lunch). Strongly recommend

Extraordinary position, fantastic view, pleasant atmosphere, friendly waiters but the food is just average. Cannelloni stuffed with cod with a lot of thick but came to the table half cold (they were not well heated in the microwave). Wine prices are undeservedly high, deadly for the wallet.

A must visit in Split! When we decided to travel to Split, this superb restaurant was on top of my list and it happened to be my birthday so I booked like two months in advance to make sure we secure a spot here. The whole experience was unmatched! Booking a table was a seamless experience. The lady who helped me and replied very promptly to my emails and questions was so nice which is not always the case at Michelin start restaurants. We booked a table for dinner and they welcomed us in a very sincere manner and gave us a table with a perfect view just like I requested when I booked. Dayan our waiter was extra nice, very knowledgeable and gave us great recommendations for drinks and food. He also made sure I had a special birthday adding a candle to our dessert. The food was on point, so fresh, big portions and very tasteful. The view is stunning and the whole atmosphere was very chilled and relaxing. I hope I’ll get to visit Dvor again soon.

The food here was excellent. We had a table with a sea view and the service was great. We were recommended the best dishes by our server which helped a lot. My favorite cold starter was the Canelon Tuna - this was the dish of the meal. The tuna was perfectly textured along with the duck fat. From the hot starters my favorite was the risotto. Lots of flavor packed into it. Note that the hot starters are portioned like mains, so I did two cold starters and two hot starters for two people and we were stuffed. We tried the tartufinoo for dessert and it was probably one of the best desserts I’ve had in a long time.

Food is delicious and fabulous view. My favorite is Ceviche which is very nicely done. Everything else is pretty good. Do save room for the dessert as the Chocolate Rum and Raspberry was superb. Not too sweet, just right taste to end the meal with. I would definitely come back again.

Sister and I went here for our last dinner in Split. We wanted to sit outside as it was beautiful but was advised against it because the temperature would dip & the winds would pick up. So we were seated at a table right by the door that leads outside. Only problem with this, is when someone is walking behind you you can feel the shift in the floor which makes you feel uneasy. We went straight for entrées. We both ordered the rack of Lamb. They were delicious cooked beautifully. Ordered a bottle of rosé and it was really good. We then ordered desserts. Sister ordered tiramisu, said it was a strong coffee flavor but good. I ordered the hazelnut truffle. Absolutely MIND BLOWING. It looks like a truffle but once you crack into it, it's filled with the creamy smooth hazelnut moose. The moose along with the shell and cookie crumble underneath gave you all the delicious textures you neeed. 9/10 recommend

Best place in Croatia that we dined at. If you’re in Split, agree with the other reviewer that referenced it’s a must. We visited during tourism high season, and we were able to book a reservation for 10 the night before for lunch - helps to call ahead. Great location outside, with cute coffee shops also nearby. The risotto, shellfish scampi and veal were personal favorites. Friends that tried the fresh oysters were very happy with the quality.

My favorite restaurant near Split! We got the tasting menu with Croatian wine, but wanted to try the ceviche. We added it as an extra course, and it was my favorite dish. All the dishes were seasoned and cooked well, but the dish that is engrained in my memory was the parsley ice cream. Two other dishes I loved were the tuna steak and the risotto.

We had a fantastic meal at Dvor! We opted for the taster menu with matching Croatian wine selection and every single dish was amazing. The waiting staff were all wonderful: really friendly and helpful with all the details of the dishes and the wines (some of which had truly unique tastes). Highly recommend that you do not pass this by on a visit to Split.

Michelin star service and food at a reasonable price. Ceviche entree was superb. Seafood risotto had fabulous smoky flavours. Lamb rack was cooked beautifully and melted in the mouth. The pear dessert was a work of art. Great selection of wines and a couple of nice craft beers. The setting is beautiful, on a shaded terrace with water views and catching the afternoon sea breeze. Worth every bit of €80 per head we spent for a long lunch.

Walked in without booking earlier today. Table for brunch no problem. With a view over the water and islands too. Excellent service from start to finish. Wine recommendation was spot on for out menu choice. Oysters were fresh and tasty Ceviche was light and delicate. Stand out dish was the smoked seafood risotto. Divine. Order it and thank me later! Main was squid and shellfish for two. Came in a big baking tray. Excellent flavours. Does not need a side dish! Had the rum cake dessert which others had raved about. It was tasty. Ice cream packed with rum flavour. Highly recommended

Lovely restaurant with a gorgeous, scenic view of split. Had the lamb which was good, but personally could have used some more seasoning. Additionally, my plate had …”foreign object” which I pointed out to the waiter. They were kind enough to remove the charges from our bill. My friend had the steak which was great for her but could have used more gravy. The recommended wine was lovely & the desert was great. Service was good as well.

Great atmosphere on a rise overlooking the beach and the ocean, the outdoor seating is fantastic underneath a canopy of big old trees. The Ceviche as other people have recommended is excellent. However, while the lamb rack was decent, it was not amazing. The meat was overly tender from the sous vide process, making the texture not as good as traditional grilling process.
