Forests
The New Forest National Park is a protected area in Hampshire, southern England, covering 566 square kilometers. The park is home to many different animals and birds not often found in the UK. The national park has been enforced by officials known as verderers for well over 1,000 years, and is still in place today.
🐴please remember to drive slow around bends, there are horses everywhere, and some go on the road!🐴 I've always loved this place! I went here to look for the famous blubelle fields, but unfortunately was quite unsuccessful. However, instead I found a lovely little hotel and restaurant called "the pig". I Highly recommend a visit there. A very wonderful place and a good stop for some lemonade and a rest.

Beautiful big National Park! Plenty of places to explore, beautiful paths to hike with quite a few car parks to allow you to explore different areas. There are quite a lot of wild horses roaming around the National Park, it won't be difficult to find them! They will come rather close to your car if you allow them to be in peace. It's good that there aren't many places to stay and eat, which means that the area is quiet.

This was booked as a birthday surprise. Absolutely amazing place, fabulous lodge everything top range and beautifully equiped. The shops, restaurant and pub all set in the ambience of the New Forest, tranquil and peaceful. Would recommend very highly.
Sheila Brown — Google review
Parked at Kingswood Oak to explore the forest. There were lovely wide tracks. We had our 3yr old with us who was happy to walk, but the terrain would have been suitable for a robust buggy. Beautiful scenery and it was quiet. When we got back the carpark had overflowed onto the road, so probably best to get there early.
Georgie M — Google review
Went round the outer part and ended up knee deep in mud. Was so much fun. Following day we went into the forest for a much dryer walk
Suzie Daniels — Google review
The New Forest National Park is a wonderful place. Many different types of trees and length/ location of walks. There are car parks dotted throughout the park (not all have public toilets, so check before you travel) and many of the larger car parks during the summer are visited by ice cream vans. We must keep our New Forest clean and safe for generations for years to come, so please take your rubbish with you, don't pet the pony's and enjoy the space.
Hannah Young — Google review
Beautiful location, perfect scenery, plenty of wild horses, cute little towns, plenty of day camping sites, what more can I say? It’s just gorgeous! Absolutely love visiting New Forest.
Alfred Aquino — Google review
Wonderful wonderful wonderful. A beautiful destination with a great atmosphere. Miles of brilliant walking and tons of wildlife. Attractions galore. Numerous pubs and restaurants. A beautiful place one of Britain's finest national parks. Beautiful streams and rivers and picturesque towns and villages
Mark Mahoney — Google review
An incredibly diverse national park with lots of different car parks, some with toilets. Lots of walks or cycling routes. And of course, the New Forest ponies to observe in a natural habitat for them
Michaela Nobbs — Google review
I had an incredible visit to the New Forest National Park, and it's safe to say that we'd love to come back here again. The natural beauty of this place is simply enchanting. During our recent trip, we decided to explore some of the charming little towns that dot the landscape. Beaulieu left us awe-struck with its picturesque setting and the delightful sight of donkeys leisurely strolling around the village. Milford on Sea offered us amazing sea walks, with the crashing waves creating a soothing ambiance. And Lyndhurst was an absolute gem; we embarked on a captivating town walk, discovering an old church that seemed to have a story around every corner. To top it off, we enjoyed a delectable cup of coffee at the New Forest Coffee Shop, making our visit even more memorable. The New Forest National Park offers a perfect blend of natural wonders and quaint, historic towns, making it a destination that leaves you yearning for more. We're already looking forward to our next adventure in this enchanting place.

As always a great place to reconnect with Nature. Popular areas can get busy at weekends/holiday times. Lots of different areas to walk.
Natalie Edwards — Google review
A wonderful place to visit at any time of year. The scenery will always be different according to the season and if you go at quiet times can be very peaceful. I'm normally there early in the morning sometimes just me it seems. As I live quite close I don't use it as a holiday destination, but there are lots of things to do and best start is the visitor centre at Lyndhurst for all the info.
Steve U — Google review
Easy motorway access and then smaller roads. Huge park for outdoor rising cycling. Walking, etc . Lots to see and do. Suggest to preplan a list and route and book accomodation centrally to make the most of the area. Food and drink easily available .
Anne G — Google review
Lovely place. Went down a lane restricted to 40mph and also equipped cattle grids. Amazing scenery and wild horses. Saw some goals also. I wish the lane was restricted to a lower speed as when I was here, some drivers abused the speed and beeped their horns to shift the horses.

This destination is perfect for families with its stunning natural scenery, free-roaming wildlife, and wonderful landscape. It's a true paradise for nature lovers, offering a glimpse into the beauty of the outdoors. Whether you're looking for adventure or just relaxation, there's something for everyone to enjoy. So pack your bags and escape to this breathtaking destination where memories are made and experiences are never forgotten.

It is a very beautiful area. Lots of birds and an SSSI and nature reserve, too. It's lovely for a walk along the shoreline, although beware that there are mud flats and you can walk suddenly be up to your knees in mud. My dog had a wonderful time there.
Zsuzsa Bella — Google review
The New Forest National Park is one of the most beautiful parts of England I have visited. The vast and varied trees and open plains make every visit unique. Amazing sunrise's and beautiful subsets. With places suitable all year round and for any fitness levels it really has something for everyone. Really looking forward to coming again soon, really puts my area of the country to shame.
Chris B — Google review
Such a lovely part of the UK. Always enjoy visiting the new forest due to the abundance of wildlife. We were lucky to see loads of ponies, donkeys, cows including Highland cattle and pigs during our recent visit. Loads of well maintained free car parks, many with public toilets. Variety of walks but the fact you can simply wander freely means you can explore without seeing another soul. Lovely villages scattered throughout the park. It is a fabulous place to visit and highly recommended.
Susanne Knowles — Google review
Lovely walk, make sure you wear suitable footwear as wet and muddy in place.
Cathy Richards — Google review
Great open areas for walking, there was also ponies grazing. The trees were wonderful spent a lot of time just looking up into the canopy.
Frank Edwards — Google review
This is my happy place. Beautiful place to visit. Please drive carefully. Can get very busy in school holidays though.
Lozza — Google review
Beautiful area of the country to visit. We spent 6 days in Holmsley and travelled around the area. Some really lovely walks and bike rides. It's definitely a place to re-connect with the family etc whilst out walking with nature. Loads of great bits to see and do and a lot of it is free. Would definitely go again as the whole area is setup for walkers and cyclists.

Lovely experience well worth the money, volunteers are so friendly and passionate about there ship, my daughter was give her own log book in which she had to get sticker and tick off eye spy around the ship, she spoke to the captain the deck crew and the engine and boiler room volunteers who all showed her there part of ship and realy made her day.

Great old ship with an amazing engine room! Very helpful volunteers/ crew. The port could be more helpful and give them a more excess able dock!

I was invited to go on this boat for the afternoon. We'll I had the greatest time. There was a band ub40 tribute and they was amazing (are you 40). The boat staff was welcoming gand friendly you learn about the boat as well as drinks and a boogie. Love every minute was gutted it ended. Will recommend and will go back again.xx

A lovely day out, in what is a very unusual opportunity for most of us. The hot-dog was great and the drinks were reasonably priced. Support a good cause, enjoy the sea breeze and the sunshine. Plenty of places to sit on the deck. Access to ship was very easy.
Gon?alo Lacerda-Machado — Google review
Our first trip was a cruise from Southampton docks to Portsmouth harbour. We had a splendid day with knowledgeable and friendly volunteer crew ensuring we were well-informed as well as well looked after. Highly recommended!
Dorcas Atkins-Greig — Google review
Initially hesitant about the price, but having now been on the trip around Portsmouth Harbour, it was worth every penny. The volunteers are brilliant, catering is excellent and the running commentary was very well informed. The ships siren is sensational. Love this ship 💖
Andrew Morrison — Google review
We attended a Wake onboard . I have also been on a trip previously- which was wonderful. My only issue is with the food and drinks. I am a vegan and there was no milk alternative- for my tea and hardly anything to eat on the buffet..it would be nice to have had a sandwich option . We are here to stay 🙃 Thank you anyway for your work on the Shieldhall.
Jacquie Dowding — Google review
Set off on a Sunday from berth 110 in the docks at Southampton with nearby parking dedicated to the Shieldhall for a wonderful 8 hour relaxing trip. So smooth, and expertly guided over the loud speaker as we went past famous places on the Isle is White and Southampton like Osborne House. The crew (all volunteers) were amazing and all happy to tell you all about the wonderful old ship! And the engine room must not be missed, engineering in action is an understatement...it was more like a treasure trove of knowledge and practical applications of physics at its best.
Laurence Postgate — Google review
Just wanted to say a great big "Thank you" to everyone on the Shieldhall. Our son had his reception there and I couldn't fault it. The volunteers looked after us as we got on and off the ship. Everyone was friendly and helpful with the buffet and really added to the occasion. 👍
Julie De Bono — Google review
Enjoyed our afternoon cruise viewing Cruise ships etc. All the staff are wonderful and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. It was a bit choppy that day but hardly any movement could be felt. We visited the Bridge and Engine Room. Wholly recommend!
Steph Bull — Google review
Had a great experience on board today singing with the Finest Southampton Salty Seadogs , part of the Rogation Of The Seas Service in the Company of the Mayoress of Southampton and her Chaplin and Albion Band , thank you to all the Staff and Crew for welcoming us on board, see you soon for a cruise ...
Mark Hooper — Google review
This is an amazing experience to have done. The ship is so interesting. The staff are all volunteers they look after this ship because of their love for it, they are all super helpful and ready to answer any questions you are bound to have. It is fully restored and is the only running steam ship of its kind. There is so much to see. You can pretty much explore any part of the ship including the engine room which gets pretty hot. There are lots of links to the Titanic which if this is of interest to you is very much worth a visit. There is a gift shop aboard, and a cafe selling hot and cold food and drinks. Both shops have something for everyone and are very reasonably priced. It's very much worth a visit worth every penny.
Will Facciol — Google review
Have travelled on SHIELDHALL a good number of times over the years all ways a good experience. Excellent for the Bournemouth Air show for good views of the aircraft with the sun behind you. Unfortunately my last trip had to be cancelled due to a pump failure. The first time it has happened to me. Hot and cold food available on board. Drinks coffee tea and alcoholic drinks. Men and women's toilets. Seating outside and inside, lots of things to see on board. Very stable ship. Good for taking photos .cruise ships ect.

Amazing trip to see the Round the Island (Isle of Wight) Yacht Race. Great day out. Good variety of hot & cold snacks sold on board along with hot & cold drinks. Interesting tour of both the engine room & the wheel house. Tickets were worth every penny.

An absolutely delightful day, sailing from Southampton to Portsmouth Docks on the Steam Ship Sheildhall. Vessel delightful, staff and volunteers professional - helpful and proud to be there. The organisation of the Shieldhall is run like clockwork, no hitches whatsoever. The cruise was well planned, with thorough, articulate narration throughout. Thank you very much to all.

Outdoor activity organiser
Water & Amusement Parks
Go Ape is a fun-filled and adrenaline-fuelled outdoor activity organiser that offers a treetop rope course for groups of up to 10 people. The organisation is run by the Southampton City Council, which ensures that the venue is always accessible and affordable for all.
Had a fantastic time, the place is well run. Took 3 hours to go round the whole course although that did include waiting for people in front. Would highly recommend especially for team building.
Floppy T Narwal — Google review
The staff were really friendly and informative. Me and my family went on the treetop adventure, which is the shorter course.. I'll admit I got scared at one point and had to have assistance, but there was no judgment apart from anyone, apart from myself at the end. I think it's well priced and even the weather wasn't ideal we had a great time.
leanne Stevens — Google review
Had a Blast! - My daughter had recently been invited to a birthday party at Go Ape Southampton and had been a little apprehensive about going (having never done anything like this before). She tried her best but was a little scared to do the Treetops Adventure Plus route. The staff could not have been nicer and understanding and let her stay on the "easier" stages. I promised that I would bring her back and build up her confidence to attempt the Adventures Plus course - so today was the day. First off again compliments to the staff, they are so friendly and I felt went above and beyond the expectations of providing good customer service. Again we asked to start off on the easier course which was no issue. After going through Stage 1 a couple of times we progressed on Stage 2, then Stage 3 and all the time the instructors were cheering us on. We had just enough time to attempt Stage 4 (which is the Adventures + level) and we completed it feeling like we really achieved something. I think in the end I was actually more scared than my daughter! Just wanted to say a massive thank you to Go Ape, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves today and thank you to all the kind and supportive members of the team - especially Amy who kept checking in on us to make sure my daughter was ok. Fantastic day out, highly recommend it. My daughter left saying that we will do the Treetop Challenge next, but luckily I don't think she's tall enough or old enough for that yet, so I have a few more years to build my confidence up :)
Michael Barber — Google review
Fantastic area great for my daughter who was 6. I feel like an hour is a little too short, especially during the quieter periods. Great for kids with confidence, if they're a little low on it they'll need an adult with them.
anthony taylor — Google review
Very well organised, friendly knowledgeable staff, informative. Lots of parking (pay and display) we also saw warden checking tickets... and lovely little dog friendly cafe with indoor and outdoor seating also on site
Karen Woolley — Google review
Great place, with a first timer and forgot how good it can be .. busy so put plenty on parking..I think it is quite a costly activity but I wouldn't say it is worth it for the experience
Helen Spragg — Google review
We visited today for my son’s 18th birthday present. Two of our party got into some difficulty but the staff couldn’t be more helpful. They were so reassuring and didn’t make the people concerned feel they were a bother at all. I was so impressed with how friendly, helpful and generally lovely the staff were. Would definitely recommend!
Teresa Badger — Google review
Really fun experience, was my first time and staff were kind and helpful. The course was great fun and challenging! Only thing to note is that toilets are down the track in portaloos at the moment as the park ones are closed. Other than that everything was seamless!
Lauren Cinzia Dixon — Google review
Amazing experience, lucky with the weather and as we went midweek outside of school holidays it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Treetop adventure was fantastic and my arms knew they'd had a workout the next day 😂. Parking is pay and display and is run by the council not Go Ape. Amazing experience and one we would definitely do again.
Hannah Dyson — Google review
Had a great time here. All the staff were great. One even took the time to reassure my daughter as she was a bit nervous and another helped her by talking her through how to cross one of the lines. My other daughter loved it and so did I. Would highly recommend!!
Philippa White — Google review
Came here on a Saturday with a group of 4 friends. Our instructor was super helpful and was happy to answer any questions. Sasha, who checked us in was really enthusiastic too, which we loved. We were able to hold bags in the cabin free of charge too. Parking was super easy despite it being on a Saturday. The use of the RingGo app meant that if needed we could top up the parking. There are 5 section, with the first section being the training section. All of them were challenging but achievable at the same time. Really easy booking system and even though it wasn’t cheap at £35pp, it was well worth the experience. Will be back for sure in the future!
Alisha Renwick — Google review
Massive, massive thank you to the staff at Southampton Go Ape this morning, so very patient with my daughter giving encouragement, advice and support to my daughter as she made her way around the course. Very rushed her and by the end she managed to complete the second bigger loop and the zip line. All the staff were fantastic but big shout out to Sasha who was so patient and helpful and even went up especially to do the zip line with her twice!! Thank you all!
Sarah Hunt — Google review
My four children were very excited to try Go Ape but it seems there were just too many people on it. They all progressed very quickly to Level 4 but there were so many children, and in particular one very slow adult, that it then took them 30 minutes to cross this level. At one point there were 18 children waiting for this slow adult to get across, all hanging around, desperate to move on. Once my four had eventually managed to get across, their time was up and they couldn’t try it again. It seems a lot of money when there are so many people on it at once and it definitely took the pleasure out of the hour they had. Very disappointing for our first visit to be honest.
Sarah Lawes — Google review
I went today with my two boys, one of which has type 1 diabetes and a fear of heights. My mum who has dementia was on the ground and got a bit distressed at one point because she couldn't see us. The staff were all fantastic and helped so much. My boys absolutely loved it despite not finishing the course! Thank you 😀

Go ape axe throwing: Had an absolutely fantastic time axe throwing with our instructor, Paul Stewart. He made our session brilliantly entertaining, providing teaching techniques (whilst watching us individually to help correct us, to ensure a hit on the target by the end of the session). He and other instructors in the reception gelled so well with our high energy and provided a really entertaining and fantastic experience for all of us. I believe he helped spark a passion in a few of us and we are looking to pursue this more in the near future! Thank you so much for a really wonderful time.
jade tillwach — Google review
My friends and I visited together for one of my friend's stag do. We were only there for Axe Throwing, which was a lot of fun! The instructor was really friendly and knowledgeable, demonstrating the throwing technique and then giving each of us tips to improve our throws and accuracy during the session. A great experience which I plan to go back and do again!

A fantastic hour of fun for my eight year old and his friends. Just the right amount of challenge and really good support from the instructors.

Our family made a last minute booking to go axe throwing and what a great decision! The staff were really warm and friendly and the setting is perfect! In particular, our instructor Miguel was brilliant! He made us all feel comfortable and welcome and he was lots of fun! We’ll definitely be back and tell our friends!!

We had such an Incredible time. I took my wife for her birthday and she loved it. The team we very friendly, the safety brief was informative and not too long you start to drift off. The Solent Sky Museum is a popular attraction in Southampton that celebrates aviation history with an unrivaled collection of restored aircraft. The museum has an Air Training Corps National Museum and is home to the Sandringham Flying Boat and Spitfire F24 fighter plane, both of which are amazing examples of historic flying machines.
The true journey of flying boat from the origin to the end...It also shows the war history and many unknown facts and reality of Southampton. I really amazed about this City as it's much more to explore from this museum. Must to visit once with family and children's. It's really a best place which takes you to the root of Southampton city, Flying boat history and about the world war. If you find it really informative just thumbsup plz....
Vijay Shishu — Google review
I have always loved this museum, and have tried to visit at least once a year since my father took my brother and I as kids. The history with the displays is fascinating, and gives a real flavour for the times and places associated with the beautifully kept aircraft. I'm a keen model maker, and the huge displays of scale models are brilliant. The staff are also wonderful, and going and having a cockpit tour of the Beachcomber is an absolute must
Benji Isaac — Google review
Simply amazing. So much information and aircraft of great historical value, significance and importance on display, with rich connections to Southampton, birthplace of the Supermarine Spitfire!. A couple of hours went in a blink of an eye. A great place to top up your aviation knowledge or even general knowledge for that matter. Well worth the admission fee. Highly recommended. Ample paid parking available on the main road parallel with the museum.
Baz Choudhury — Google review
Absolutely excellent little museum. They make the best possible use of the space they have and there's lots more to see than I expected. I was especially impressed with the staff who were very knowledgeable about the aircraft and happy to chat too. Highly recommended for anyone remotely interested in aviation. Sadly, I found out I would be too tall to have been allowed to fly a Harrier, but enjoyed the opportunity to sit on the cockpit regardless.
Charles Sellers — Google review
Absolutely loved it. Very interesting great aircraft exhibits. Good display of firepersons and equipment in a separate section.also a small police section. Trent even opened up the tram shed for me. Result. Everyone was really helpful a number of hands on exhibits as well. In the pipeline a cafe and another undercover area for more aircraft exhibits. Must go back
Anthony Gothard — Google review
A fantastic fully accessible museum, staff were really friendly and gave loads of hints and tips. You can go aboard the boat plane and sit in a few planes. Upstairs on the top floor is the Hampshire Police and Fire Service museum as well, all included in the price. We had a fantastic visit.
Joanne Rickard — Google review
Fantastic place, worth £12 adult entrance fee. Did not realise I was there for two hours. Would go again. I don’t usually give 5/5 ratings, here it’s an exception. Get a tour of plane of the cockpit . Personal are very knowledgeable
Imrane Akram — Google review
From the outside this old hangar looks a bit run down, hidden away, and not looking like too much from the road. Need better marketing. However, it's like stepping into the Tardis! This is a hidden gem that time seems to have forgotten. I was amazed at how many airplanes are on show inside, it's full of history, 3 floors (there is a lift by the way). Old planes are everywhere from the floor to the ceiling. Museum also includes the Hampshire police and Fire Heritage Collection. Talking statue of a policeman little bit scared my kids but they were OK at the end. Like a lot of these small museums they rely on the good work of volunteers and these were brilliant, helpful and friendly. Last time we visited was a while ago and my little ones were allowed to sit in cockpit. They loved it. Absolutely fantastic and highly recommended if you're in Southampton near Town Quay. This wasn’t our first trip and certainly won’t be our last.
ZenZden — Google review
Bigger than expected. Lots to see! Free entry to the Police & Fire museum included too. Can be a bit dark in some places, needs more lights. Also a lot of exhibits are "work in progress".
Will Taylor — Google review
What a gem. Independently run and well worth a visit. Took the kids (2 & 4) on a rainy day and it didn't disappoint. Loads to look at and very informative. You can even sit in a few planes. Will happily go back

This is a small but very high quality museum covering both the aircraft built in the area, and police fire and auxiliaries active during the second world war. An area of focus is seaplanes. They have a great collection of historically significant seaplanes.
Mark Markovich — Google review
Not much to look at from the outside, but once you are inside it's a real treasure trove of aviation history. Great place to go with or without the family. Interactive for all and knowledgeable volunteers. One of the best attractions was sitting inside an old WW1 cockpit.
Miguel Somoza — Google review
Nice and quiet place, full of avation history and historic planes of southern coast of england. Tourists could go inside the huge “flying boat” which is well preserved and amazing, but the museum in general maybe a bit crowded as many planes fitted in a relatively small area.

Wow what a Fantastic place!!! A real hidden gem in the heart of the city, bringing to light the history of marine aviation in a rich way. Volunteers were friendly and informative- a must visit if you're visiting Southampton and have an interest in aviation/marine or war time economic developments.

Honestly one the best meals we've ever eaten, the food was beautiful, tasted amazing and decent serving size, definitely not left hungry. The wine list was extensive and tasted perfect. Atmosphere was wonderful, such a beautiful restaurant. The service was next to none, friendly and extremely professional. Value for money was amazing, honestly very reasonable price for what it was. Can't wait to go again!

Such a historic building and I loved the decor. On a cold winter's day when we visited they had a roaring fire so it was nice and cozy. We enjoyed a two course lunch meal deal which was very affordable. As a vegetarian they were options on the main menu and lunch menu to choose from. Staff were attentive and service times reasonable. We all very much enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be back.

Really delicious food and great service. It's a beautiful old building, amazing features. The food was great, I had the terrine to start (I prefer a pate personally but it was good), pork for the main which was very tasty but the star of the show was the sticky toffee pudding. Incredible depth of flavour. Absolutely insanely delicious. The service was excellent throughout. Really great meal.

I had the most incredibly dining experience at The Chesil Rectory. The building itself is so full of history and beautifully decorated. The service was impeccable. I had briefly mentioned I had just started a new job and was in town for my first few days, and was surprised with a sweet treat at the end of the meal, which was the loveliest touch! The food was delectable. The gnocchi was unreal!! I can’t speak highly enough about my experience. I will definitely be returning.

Had the best evening!! Nothing was too much trouble. They decorated the room with things I'd dropped off the day before. Fabulous service and incredible food in a beautiful environment. We were a large group and as they brought the meals out they also knew the names of who had pre ordered the dish. Would highly recommend. My favourite restaurant in Winchester! It was my brother's wedding meal and the day was so memorable. His guests all raved about the food - they all live in London or New York and eat in good restaurants.

The Chesil Rectory will give you a unique dining experience. The history held within these walls is incredible. The food, wine and staff will not disappoint. It is certainly worth going out of your way to book in advanced if you are staying/ visiting the Winchester area. Make sure to check out the black bottle after if you would like to indulge in wines.

Follow Mr & Mrs R on TikTok. We chose the Chesil Refectory to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary. We enjoyed an incredible dining experience. The freshly baked bread was crunchy and the starters were delicious. The duck was served rare and the quality was so good it just melted in the mouth. Puddings were sublime. Wine, service, atmosphere, it’s all here. First choice for celebrations. Dining here is being part of a well oiled machine. This team is a living work of art. Will definitely return for another gourmet experience.

Charming restaurant in the oldest house in Winchester. Very cozy and welcoming. The service is great. And the food is amazing! Really enjoyed it.

A beautiful, historic building that serves quite wonderful food. Simply stunning inside and full of character. The menu was varied yet not overtly vast and the service was spot on. The food was beautifully presented and tasted divine. A great wine list and a lively espresso martini to finish with. Highly recommended.

Modern British restaurant
Breakfast restaurant
The Elderflower restaurant is a modern British fine dining establishment that features both French and British cuisine. The restaurant is located in the New Forest National Park and has been awarded two AA Rosettes, one of only twelve restaurants in the UK to achieve this accolade. The chefs at The Elderflower use locally sourced produce to prepare their dishes, making it a favourite spot for foodies looking for something different.
We were lucky enough to get a table here on New Year's Eve. Upon arrival, the service was great and well thought through right down to the smallest detail. And then the food and drink arrived, and some how it got even better! We could not fault anything and will definitely make the effort to return if we are back in the area again.

A deserving three Rosetta restaurant. Very good quality seafood that serves w innovative sauces to complement. The tomato desert dish is very interesting, but seem more like a palate cleanser to me. It is the best restaurant in Lymington.

Cannot recommend highly enough. Am surprised that this restaurant doesn't have a Michelin star, I've been to many in the past and this restaurant is better than than some of those. The service was very friendly, knowledgeable and just the right amount of attention. Food was really well presented with excellent deep flavours with great combinations of ingredients. The tandoori cauliflower was stunning and the dessert on the tasting menu was as good (or better) than any Michelin starred restaurants I've visited. A must visit.

Came here to celebrate 7 years together, nice to go somewhere a bit fancy and this place has been on our list for a while! No issues with the £80 deposit, as unless you plan on not showing up then what's the problem. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. We went for the 5 course tasting menu and the food was great, lovely flavours and well presented. Small portions as is with this style of food, but at least that way you can enjoy the flavours of every course. Extensive selection of wines, maybe a little more expensive that I would expect, but more than enough to choose from. Overall I would thoroughly recommend coming here if you are looking for a nice dinner full of flavour. We would love to come again in a different season and try out what else they have to offer.

Firstly, the food at this restaurant was nothing short of exceptional. Every dish was prepared with the utmost care and attention to detail, resulting in a culinary journey that was both exciting and satisfying. The flavors were expertly balanced, and the presentation was simply stunning. From the amuse-bouche to the dessert, every course was a delight to the senses. In addition to the exquisite food, the service was equally impressive. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to make your dining experience memorable. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a truly special dining experience. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for a memorable meal, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit!

Returned after having visited many years previously and not disappointed. Food was right up there with the best restaurants we've been to - we took on the 7 course taster with our own choice of wine, every course was packed with exciting flavour that we worked our way through in a relaxed and unhurried atmosphere. Excellent evening and will be back again sooner than last time.

We had a 7 course meal last night, which was absolutely superb..We were asked what was our favourite dish but as each one was presented, it just was as good as the last. Each course was so individual and memorable. We have never had a meal that delivered so many flavours and mouth watering experiences. Congratulations to the chef and his wonderful team for once again creating a truly wonderful menu. Thank you

Excellent food and service. Went for the 7 course taster menu and it didn't disappoint. The resteraunt also serves takeaway fish and chips and so people did occasionally walk in to order which seemed at odds with and interrupted the otherwise good atmosphere.

Hartnett Holder & Co is an exquisite restaurant located in a breathtaking hotel in the New Forest. This collaboration between renowned chefs Angela Hartnett and Luke Holder has received high praise for its delectable cuisine, impeccable presentation, and delightful service. The majority of reviews are enthusiastic, with only a few noting the higher prices. However, it is universally agreed that both the cooking and service surpass expectations. One standout dish is the lobster spaghetti, which though expensive, is flawlessly executed.
Amazing food and drinks, the highest quality ingredients treated with respect and creativity. Great attentive friendly staff and beautiful surroundings. This is a restaurant of the highest standards and you deserve to visit it.

Amazing lunch here today with my wife. We did not like what was on the menu so they found us some hake and grilled it and added the sauce before another fish on the menu. Combined that with their triple cooked chips, peas and cabbage plus their yummy bread and voila we were happy customers.

The service was great and setting is beautiful. However the belly pork was terrible, paid £32 for a plate of pork fat and 1 burnt shallot which i didnt eat, really dissapointed considering it was my wifes 40th birthday meal.

Nearly 40 minutes after being seated we received drinks, an hour for the starter (which I had to send back), a messed up receipt (again!), and service added (we had no intention of leaving a tip after the experience but were too English to ask for it to be removed). For context, we’ve eaten here at least 15-20 times over the years but sadly this may have been the last.

We booked Rhinefield house for our wedding in September and we are so thankful we did! It was the most magical day, the food was delicious and the venue is just so stunning! Our wedding coordinator Annette is just the best, such a lovely lady. The food was amazing and we had soo many compliments from our guests, on the beauty of the venue, the staff and the food. We got the Bridal experience room to get ready and it was lovely & the breakfast was delicious. Highly recommend doing this. The master suite we had for our wedding night was so dreamy and beautiful!! The venue added some person touches we made us feel so special. Thank you to all the staff for the time and effort in the run up to the wedding & on the day, it didn’t go unnoticed.

Lovely food , service , room , grounds , bar waiter . However it would have been nice for someone to have offered to take our suitcases to our room and after our 5 course meal at 9.30 pm there was not one fire Lit in the building . We asked a member and were told she was too busy too light any of the open fires . We were disappointed as this was one of the main reasons we chose this hotel for the historic atmosphere and to sit by a real fire . It was 1 degree outside , and apparently the fires are only lit when cold ! Other than that we had a lovely time .

Spa, with indoor pool and the best massage I've ever had, and an outdoor pool to catch some sun in summer. Excellent!

We stayed at this hotel for two nights early in November 2023. A new system error meant that my booking was double booked. I was offered a downgrade with £50 off per night, an afternoon tea or to reschedule with £50 off per night for the inconvenience. I found all of these offers slightly underwhelming honestly which is my only gripe. We ended up rescheduling and travelling after work which was a bit long but we received a warm welcome which was great. The food was outstanding. The service was even better throughout all parts of the hotel. We stayed in the Munro room which was large, clean, comfortable and well equipped. The spa was small but lovely to have the option of using. The grounds were well kept and the location was great. Despite a bit of a difficult start I feel like the hotel recovered well and finished strongly. I would certainly stay again.

Booked a night away at the Rhinefield and was treated to something really special. The setting in the new forest is stunning, the hotel and hotel grounds are gorgeous and the room was beautiful, immaculate and spacious. What made our trip truly memorable was the staff. Very polite, knowledgeable individuals who seem to have physic abilities to address my needs before I even speak. Every interaction went above and beyond any of my previous experiences at other 4, and even 5 start hotels. Will undoubtably be returning again.

We stay in lots of high end hotels (lucky us!) and we just spent a long weekend at this splendid hotel. You know what really separates hotels? The staff. Period. The Rhinefield team should be proud of the customer experiences they deliver. Special mention to Harry, front of house - what a spectacular personality and care for guests. From remembering your name to looking after my elderly parents from the moment they stepped on site. Outstanding experience. Amazing grounds and lovely lovely food. The wait staff in the breakfast room deserve a special mention as well. Lovely walks in the forest on your doorstep as well. Perfect - well done Rhinefield house.

We just popped in to Rhinefield House Hotel for an afternoon tea this afternoon. Very impressed with the friendly and professional staff at the hotel. Every member of staff we spoke to was excellent and extremely helpful. Above all I have to single out the bar manager (I think his name was Albert): absolutely impeccable service from him which helped make our afternoon tea experience very special indeed. The afternoon tea itself was delicious and perfect in every way. Thank you to Albert and all the staff at Rhinefield House Hotel.

I would like to provide an account of the wonderful experience my partner and I had the pleasure of enjoying at Rhinefield House on the morning of 26.1.24. We had been invited by Abbie to view the hotel and its grounds as a potential venue for our wedding. Annette conducted our tour, and she could not have done any more to supply us with all the information we required & answer any further questions we asked. Indeed, this outstanding level of service was evident in every member of staff we met - from the receptionist and concierge (whose names we did not discover) to Angel, who provided us with hot drinks which were superb. As a coffee lover, I can state with no doubt whatsoever that the filter coffee served at Rhinefield House is as good as any I have ever tried. Abbie was also generous enough to reserve a potential date which had become available at short notice. We already had high hopes for Rhinefield House prior to our arrival, and we came away in full agreement that there is nowhere else we would rather tie the knot. I would urge anyone reading who is in a similar position in terms of looking for a wedding venue to see what Rhinefield House has to offer. Thank you again for treating us so warmly!

My wife and I stayed for a night in April 2024, and it was absolutely wonderful. The staff were fantastic, from the reception staff to the bar and restaurant staff, to the cleaning and maintenance staff. All were friendly, polite and attentive. Everything was clean and well-maintained, and the atmosphere was lovely. We were very fortunate that during our stay the spa was so quiet that we had it all to ourselves for the two visits we made!

Location is excellent: in the heart of the New Forest with good access to all the main attractions. Also within a beautiful woods, if staying within the area. Service was exceptional. We were especially made to feel welcomed and looked after by the waiter Angel. Angel made our dining feel special, and we went back to the same restaurant because of his hospitality. Only negative maybe is the spa area is a little small and restricted in space, however, they have done well to fit the facilities with that space. Our kids made use of the pool and had a great time nonetheless. A big thank you to all the staff. We made an impulsive booking as our trip to Singapore was cancelled and we had no regrets. We will be back.

Absolutely stunning setting, beautiful walks around. The gardens are lovely and the service and food excellent. We went for afternoon tea and it was the best afternoon tea I've ever had. 3 lots of 3 tiers and not just cold sandwiches and cakes.... Just you wait! I particularly like the bottomless selection of teas and coffees, definitely worth £40 each. They also do a children's afternoon tea for £12 which I haven't had but am looking forward to trying with my daughter one day. They were very good with dietary requirements especially if you let them know in advance. We haven't been there for anything other than afternoon tea so can't comment on anything else.

What a hidden gem! We loved every minute of our visit. A beautiful house, incredible gardens and setting within the New Forest and the friendliest team of staff, who went out of their way to ensure we had a good time. We visited for a birthday lunch on a Saturday, with 4 adults and 4 children eating in the Conservatory. Jack, our waiter, was cheerful and professional from the outset. The order was taken and delivered with no mistakes, and the food was tasty and included a large kids menu. For pudding, Jack worked with the chefs Nigel and Justin to arrange a whole platter of toppings for the children's ice-creams, so they could make their own sundaes! They had a ball creating their own unique concoctions! The children made the most of the incredible gardens, exploring the maze and the fish pond and fountains in between courses. We also had a tour from a very knowledgeable member of the team called Debs, who showed us the breathtakingly Alhambra Room and the Armada Restaurant. The team were all getting busy for an event at 3pm, but everyone was very welcoming and happy for us to explore, and we didn't feel rushed or in anyone's way (which is a joy, especially when in a hotel with four excitable children!). We will definitely be back. We'd like to try the afternoon tea, drinks in the gardens... and one day, a special dinner in the Alhambra Room! We have already raved to friends and family about this special place.

The Black Rat is a well-known and highly respected restaurant in Winchester, England that offers sophisticated modern British dining in a historic 18th century building. The menu is centred around carefully sourced local produce, and the restaurant has received a Michelin star only one year after opening thanks to its innovative approach to cooking. Meals can be expensive, but there are many interesting and unique dishes on offer.

Quirky dishes with limited menu options but on the whole we enjoyed our meal. Service attentive but slightly long wait for our main course. Wife commented that the floor in the ladies loo was a bit sticky. Cost for 3 courses with coffee and 3  glasses of wine was £175 (includes 12.5% service charge which was automatically added to the bill).

Wonderful restaurant. The standard of the food was very high as you would expect. The selections of gin available was great and I really enjoyed trying some new varieties. The service was very good and the staff attentive. The set lunch menu is reasonable especially given the quality of the food and how tasty it was. The setting is a little quirky as it is an old building and the restaurant appears to have been a old pub or tearoom at some point.

Had an absolutely fabulous meal here last night. It’s far from full so far, following all the COVID lockdowns, but the food was just perfect. First thing they bring was bread…two pieces each: a ciabatta and a black bread (coloured with squid ink). Hard to get a good photo of the black bread as it is soooo black but both delicious and unusual and this set the tone for the rest of the meal. Starters were “Barbecued quail breast, confit guinea fowl leg gyoza, soy pickled shiitake mushroom, grilled enoki, glazed bok choi, teriyaki” for me and “Citrus cured chalk stream trout, chilled beetroot & wasabi gazpacho, nasturtium leaf & herb oil, cucumber relish” for Sue. Both were perfectly executed and a very complex set of flavours that worked together superbly…the chef deserves a medal just for dreaming them up. Then I had the “Dry aged Wooley Park free range duck, honey glaze, liver & confit leg, duck fat carrot, date & Lapsang Souchong, New Forest spring greens, hazelnut dukkah” and Sue had “Dorset lamb neck, compressed green pepper & cucumber, sea beet, confit garlic & nori pommes puree, lamb bone sauce”….both of which were perfectly prepared and presented. I cannot praise the chef enough for the flavour and texture combination…just fantastic. Dessert was Meadowsweet madeleines, miso butterscotch sauce…and the madeleines were perfect. We had cheese too…a nice selection of local cheeses but the Barkham Blue was the highlight there…not something I had heard of but wonderful blue cheese. The service was not quite at the level I’d expect, given the quality of the food, but certainly not bad, and the wine list had depth. Little bit surprised that they didn’t have a tasting menu…but we’re just emerging from the COVID pandemic, so perhaps this is something that they’ll do in future…the idea makes my mouth water all over again.

We were bought a gift voucher as a wedding present and went last night. The choice of food was very varied and made the choice a little dilemma.our choices are as in the pictures and were excellent. Wine list is extensive. Attentive staff. If you like gin they have separate menu for that. Lots of different gins. It's not a cheap experience as you expect but would definitely come back, I understand they have heated outside seating so maybe try that. If I had any criticism which I didn't really but it would be the lighting which was quite dark and it made it difficult to see what we were eating.

Been here 3 or 4 times now, most recently in May 2019 on a sat eve. Food has always been standout and certainly 1 star worthy. It’s not theatrical or molecular - what it is, is delicious, well presented, well portioned, interesting food in a cozy atmosphere with excellent, friendly and informed staff. Comparing to other 1 or even 2 starred restaurants it easily holds its own. If you’re in the local area / staying within a reasonable drive, then this is a must eat for anyone who enjoys their food. Scotch egg, rabbit, and lamb all fantastic and the madeleines are a must have (a bit of a speciality of the black rat). Extensive gin menu too here. Certainly recommend.

Delicious meal at Michelin stared restaurant The Black Rat. Couldn’t get in initially but after being on the waiting list we got a table. Food was beautifully presented even though portions were a little small. Great choice of gins too. The service was excellent.

Celebrated our anniversary with dinner at The Black Rat last night and were amazed at the quality of the food as well as the service. Hand sanitizer was available on entry and all staff wore masks as well as making clear the subtle differences in service that are to be expected given the pandemic however none of the changes removed any enjoyment from the experience. Will definitely be visiting again, the food was fantastic and the place has a relaxed feeling that is perfect for a date night.
