Province of Almeria

Almería is a province in the Andalusia region of southern Spain. Along its Mediterranean coast are volcanic cliffs, secluded coves, fishing villages and beach resorts. The region's sparsely populated interior consists largely of mountains and arid desert. The provincial capital, also called Almería, is a port town overlooked by La Alcazaba, a 10th-century Moorish fortress housing lush gardens and a museum.

Bullring
Sights & Landmarks
The Plaza de toros de Vera is a bullring that offers visitors an opportunity to learn about the historical roots of bullfighting. While animals are killed during the evening, locals view it as a cultural event and chance to socialize. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged. The museum, gift shop, actual bullring and areas where bulls are kept prior to release into the ring make for an interesting visit. Visitors can also expect volunteers to guide them through their tour.
Interesting. Small and beautiful. Free to enter. Sad to see the bull cages...

Popped in and an old guy showed us around which was nice Was keen for us to go in his little make shift shop to buy something which we didn't but gave him a tip for the tour

Interesting place to visit. There is a spanish man who will offer to show you around and offer items for sale that he has made.
Valerie Tuohy — Google review
We were able to walk around the museum, see where the bulls would have been held and released into the ring. They were painting the front gates when we first arrived so had to come back a little later. Normally open from 11am to 2pm.
Valerie Stone — Google review
There is a museum inside and the old gentleman there will passionately explain the history to you. If you happen to pass by and have time it’s nice to make a stop.
Rachelle Rao — Google review
We were at the show and we liked it. It is necessary to focus more on the historical roots of the bullfighting than on the fact that animals are killed during the evening. It was obvious that for the locals it was a cultural event and an opportunity to meet. Once in a lifetime, it pays to visit the show.
Pavel Marek — Google review
Well worth the visit!!! Free entry with a lovely on site caretaker eager to show you around and help capture the atmosphere. Access to ALL areas including the ring itself (allowed to roam freely). Great memories made. Tips are a must!
Emma South — Google review
Free to enter but they expect a donation. Volunteers take you round to see their museum, gift shop, the actual bullring and the places where the bulls are kept prior to release into the ring. It's very interesting and worth the visit. We gave the man €5 which he seemed happy with

AquaVera Parque Acuático

Mentioned on
Water park
AquaVera Parque Acuático is a well-organized and clean water park with a variety of rides. Despite the reasonable prices for food, there are some additional charges, such as for beds. The staff is helpful in resolving any issues that may arise with online bookings or vouchers. Visitors can enjoy short queues for the rides and plan to return for another visit.
We went to this water park, which is about an hour's drive from San Jose. My partner's son has learning disabilities and is also autistic, he likes paddling in water. We arrived to find at least 5 disabled car park spaces, clearly sign posted. There was no queue to get in when we arrived. We walked from the ticket office and there were changing rooms and toilets just before you entered the main area of the park. We were given a map showing what sections were suitable for people with disabilities. It has 3 pools that anyone with a disability can go into on lower ground. All walking areas are flat ground suitable for a wheelchair and prams further up in the park are the water slides. Which is crowded by lots of children and teenagers. We went on the first day of the summer holiday and it was busy. I can only imagine what it is going to be like in July and August. You can hire a single donut inflatable for €8 double donut €10 , €12 for a triple donut. I think you can hire a mat, maybe to use on the slide, €7. There is a place you can buy food from, not sure about the prices, but the food looked okay. I saw a few youngsters eating their own food they brought with them. I paid €6.90 for 2 sun loungers, they tie a blue band around them once you pay and give you a receipt, which you need to keep. We paid £61.00 for 3 of us, we had a 33% disability discount for my partner's son. It's very clean and they have lots of life guards who are attentive. In one of the pools staff were doing aqua Zumba. You can spend all day there and the children play. There are a couple if not more gift shops where you can buy bracelets and items for the pool. Definitely worth a visit for adults and children. Adults can also go the slides. Some of my images had people in, have taken them out if the area looks deserted it wasn't.

Decent water park with plenty of rides. And the queues weren’t long at all. Food reasonably priced too. Will defo be going back.
Chris Spink — Google review
Good day out would recommend but they put vouchers on my car for resident then said I lived in wrong area and charged me full price when I have a pensionister card but the park is clean and very well organised.
heather smith — Google review
We spent over 6 hours here, and had great fun. Plenty of slides, and the pools were fun too. The lockers are really useful, and we found it helpful to hire chairs too. We didn’t bother hiring a triple ring, and rarely had to queue for more than a few mins for one. The ground can get VERY hot so take care of little ones. All very clean and well run.
Anthony Aimiee — Google review
Great day, had a small issue at the gate with an online booking but the staff were brilliant and sorted it out. Don't think there should be a charge for the beds but it is what it is
Bluemooner — Google review
The price is 25€ if you pay by the gate and 12, 50€ if you pay online. The gate man was friendly but there are some hidden costs if you go inside. We have to pay extra for a inflatable ring to go on water slide. 7 euro per a double one and 9 euro for triple one. 5 euro deposit. You have to pay for lookers as well. I been to get some doughnut and them are 2.50€ for few little doughnuts. Good fun for kids, and adults but for half a day not more.
Costa Horga — Google review
Very nice waterpark. Clean safe and nice staff. I would give it 4 stars but the price is too expensive... we paid 64 eur to get in (2 adults, 2 juniors). Then you have to rent garderobe (2 eur), beds (4 eur per bed) anf eat and drink there. So 100 eur for 1 day is pretty expensive I guess... but we enjoyed anyway! If u like it you can come back the second time for half the price.
Patty Patty — Google review
Disappointing experience. You can’t book disabled tickets online so you have to stand in the “on the day ticket purchase” queue which was huge, despite arriving 40 minutes before the park opened. It would have been much easier if these could have been purchased online (with evidence being shown on the day) so we could have joined the much shorter “online tickets collection” queue which was fully under the shade. When we arrived at the box office we bought two regular tickets and a disabled one but were given no disabled access information so totally left to our own devices and having to hope for the best! Within minutes of getting our sun beds we were asked to pay for their use for the day. This was no problem as we knew to expect this. HOWEVER surrounding us were 3 Spanish families who were using 14 beds between them. None of them paid or had tags on their beds. When asked for payment by the attendant one of the family members just said no we don’t have any money it’s all in the locker. They were not approached again or asked to pay for their chairs. Maybe it’s just the “foreigners” that have to pay to hire out the sunbeds? Due to my disability, and also partly due to the total lack of accessible information for the water park, I stayed by the sunbeds for the majority of the day apart from a few short dips in the pool area although my family said the rides were enjoyable but the queues were very long indeed for each ride.
Donna Langley — Google review
Great for kids and adults alike. The slides are great, lots of pools to cool down in
Shy Mubs — Google review
Lovely place really clean and everyone really nice and safety to a high standard. Although the photographers at the entrance / exit were very pushy and rude, also didn't release u understand perfect spanish and I don't appreciate their comments. Taking my photo is not your right if I don't wish to have it taken.
Alex Wheeler — Google review
Family of four 100-150 Euro a day. Entry even when bought online is ~80Euro+ Sun lounges ~5Euro Floats for the rides 10min double rider +5Euro deposit in hope that you rip this one or you forget about it. Oh buying online is no benefit. As queue literally the same to collect entry ticket. And could not use voucher left on the cars in the area giving 24€ discount So financially it is ripoff. Well you can bring your own food or get of the park to get food from local shops … But hey—- if this would have been clearly stated on website- I would have chosen differently me entertainment.

Tapas bar
Spanish restaurant
El Quinto Toro is Almería's best-known tapas bar and is known for its traditional bullfighting sandwiches. It's a great stop on a tour of the city. The menu features an extensive selection of different tapas, all very affordable, and the modern setting makes it an inviting place to enjoy a casual meal.
Great tapas, traditional tavern atmosphere with great tiles! The staff were friendly and patient with our lack of Spanish. Good beer, wine and food.
Emma — Google review
I went there 3 times as i never leave a review after one visit unless i am blown away as i have been in hospitality all my life. Everything i had was average. For non Spanish speaking patrons yes the service is hurried like every other busy tapas bar. They don't give you much attention so I would probably go in with a dictionary and do my homework before ordering so you know what you're getting rather than being ignored with questions
Andrea Casale — Google review
Just nearby Alméria central market El Quinto Toro is a very nice place to have a beer (and more) and a couple of tapas. The albondigas (meatballs) taste amazing, just look like the ones from my Abuelita. We tried also the Rabo de toro, who’s basically a bull tail slow cooked in a very rich sauce, a bit more expensive dish but very nice and tasty, at the end the price is justified. The jamon de cebo is very good and nutty rich flavor. The staff was very helpful and we service very professional

Nice local but very popular bar nice traditional tapas, prices about average for Almeria centre.

Great place to eat good tapas at a decent price, patatas a lo pobre is their best. They have a very good location in the middle of Almería, and a good terrace where to eat, if you want to have sun in the terrace I recommend to be there around 14h, at least when it's not summer since the sun goes sooner.

Very nice bar with great tapas and very friendly staff. Best abondigas we ever had. We will be back!
Wout “BigBucks” Bucker — Google review
local place with good tapas at an excellent price. Service was polite but not overly friendly, perhaps my limited Spanish set me back. Tables and chairs spill into the street when the weather is nice, which is everyday in Almeria. Good location close to the market. a beer and tapa set me back 2.50 so I'd say its worth a stop at those prices anyway.

Castilian restaurant
Restaurante Salmantice is an appealing dining establishment situated in the fresh locality of Almeria. The interior boasts a simplistic design while their cuisine captures the essence of tradition with a hint of contemporary flair. Patrons are presented with an array of delectable options such as succulent grilled octopus and flavorful roasted lamb. Regrettably, there seems to be no currently available restaurants matching your search criteria in this region.
One of the best fine dining experiences in Almeria. The food is incredible and everything is made form scratch/prepared fresh on site - even the bread sticks (so good). The owners are friendly and kind, the service is top notch, and the decor is upscale. A nice touch is being able to see into the professional kitchen at the back of the restaurant. We’re very glad Salmantice made it through the pandemic.

(Translated by Google) This past Saturday I had dinner at this restaurant, which was my first time there. A cozy and not very large restaurant. We were about 17 people having dinner. The treatment from Jessica Sánchez and José Hernández, the two people who personally serve the tables, were very good. We ate something different that you can't try every day, and everything was very well plated and above all very good quality. The average price for dinner for two people is between €70 and €120, of course this can go up depending on what is ordered. A good score that must be given to this restaurant is the knowledge of intolerances since José Hernández is attentive to these dishes, in my case it is gluten, and I did not have any problems having dinner. It is a 100x100 recommendable restaurant and a good experience to dine something different in Almería.

Casa Puga is a centuries-old tapas bar that features traditional Spanish fare like fried cod and grilled kidneys. It's been a favourite of locals and tourists alike since 1870, when the family who ran it handed it down to new owners. The atmosphere is rustic and inviting, with shelves full of ancient wine bottles and walls plastered with lottery tickets and ancient maps. If you're looking for an authentic Spanish tapas experience, Casa Puga is definitely worth a visit!
Nice atmosphere, we had some tapas and drinks, I've been visiting Almería on my sailing trip to Mallorca on the solar powered catamaran.

Steve Cripps — Google review
We arrived 30 minutes after it opened and it was packed. We nearly turned around and walked out, thinking we wouldn't find anywhere to stand and eat our food. However we squeezed through the crown and found it opened up at the back and there were some tables available for diners, so we grabbed one. The interior is full of interesting things to look at, traditional tiled walls, old photographs, and maps. Three huge brewing tanks are set in one corner covered is stickers of Jesus. Once seated, we were served really quickly considering how busy it was. I ordered Gambas Pil Pil, Prawns fried in olive oil with garlic and chilli. It was suberb. My mum had cod in a tomato sauce. It had been cut into big chunks, lightly floured and fried, and it was also delicious. This was as traditional a tappas bar as I have been in while staying in Costa Almeria and I would definitley reccomend it - if you can get in.

Well I have queued to get into many a bar but never a restaurant but wow was it worth it...... Extremely busy at opening time but absolutely no need to worry about having to wait to be served and the waiters/bar staff are very efficient. The food is superb and its tempting to order too much. We visited twice in our 3 night stay and we were tempted to go on the 3rd night as well. The beer is good and you get a free tapas with your first drink. Whilst we were the only british people in the bar our waiter quickly found an english menu as we were struggling with the Spanish version. A big thank you to all the staff.

Amazing! My girlfriend and I went a few minutes before 23:00 in a Saturday, had to wait 3 minutes for a table. We had a bunch of different delicious Tapas that they show and explain to you, as well as beer and wine. The waitress dealing with us was limited in her English, but nonetheless super friendly and eager to help. The prices were great, and as we paid we even got free shots of 'lemon sorbet with sparkling wine'. We will be coming again! Keep up the great work! 11/10 for taste and Etablissement

Located in the Almedina barrio, just before the Arab fortress Alcazabar, Tetería Almedina Baraka is a small restaurant that aims to preserve the Muslim heritage of Almeria. As part of this initiative, they offer a delightful courtyard dining experience. One must try their renowned limon a la hierbabuena, a refreshing lemon and mint cordial.
The staff was very nice and accommodating. I arrived to pick up a take-out order, not realizing that they use a delivery service. They made up my order a second time while I waited and were very pleasant, even including a complimentary dessert. The food was delicious.

Tourist trap. Waiting time even when not busy 45-60min. Ridiculously high prices for what you get. Falafel grande (position)for 14euro(Feb 24) is a small plate of 8-9 mini falafels with mayo and a bit of cabbage and carrots sprinkled over them. That is a side dish, not a portion with side salad and a few pieces of arabic bread. None of the meals came warm. Do not waste your time or money.
Martin Marinov — Google review
Poor and slow service- the main dishes arrived 1hour and 20 mins after we ordered - and one main dished never arrived - it wasn’t busy either.
Lou Mac — Google review
While the view is certainly outstanding, the atmosphere in the first floor was definitely not the best, seeing as it's right next to the kitchen and you can hear the clicking and clacking and yelling and all of that. I ordered the homemade fries, which I was assured would be filling and that it'd be a large dish (it wasn't), that cost an absurd 8€ that I regret spending, and the fries took more than 40 minutes to arrive to the table. You'd think that the fries taking more than 40 minutes to cook would be golden brown and perfectly fried, well, you thought wrong, because they arrived looking very pale and a bit undercooked, with the ketchup being a splotch on the side, not even offered for me to use it however I'd like to. The ladies seemed nice and the desserts looked good, but I wouldn't recommend sitting in the first floor nor ordering the +40 minute fries that should cost 4-5€ and little more.

We had lunch on the roof terrace, which has views to the Alcazaba and the sea. The waitress was very attentive and sweet. They couldn't get mint due to a national truckers strike. So we couldn't order their delicious lemonade with mint. However, she suggested fresh orange and carrots juice and it was great too. We ordered the medium size hummus to share with their home made bread but the smaller plate could have been enough for the 2 of us. It was delicious. Our main courses were couscous, one with chicken and the other with lamb. They were served in tagine plates, very warm and tasty. Also very generous, so we were not able to have desserts after all that. We will go back again.

Didn't like this experience. I want to say, that it was siesta time and I was hungry and needed to wait for Alcazaba opening and this was the one open place near. But anyway: I with my wife were only persons who ordered food, we were waiting for 45 or even more minutes. Also meat was burnt. Also they brought me wrong drink (I was able to get it only from the bill, because I didn't know what to expect from this menu). Also I didn't like this kitchen: food is strange, taste of Spanish dishes were not like you used to expect, drinks are not typical and taste is weird. So I was disappointed, but thanks that you are open in siesta time. UPD for replied message: it doesn't matter wich type of the kitchen, my complaints are: - waiting for 45 minutes if we are single client who ordered the food - burnt meat (I don't believe that "Comida Arabe" should be with this overcooked state) - and mistake with drink - I order one drik, but was provided with another one (I didn't know it, because it's "Comida Arabe" and I didn't know what to expect by drink title, was able to get it only from the bill)

The food was super delicious! We had the Musaka (omg!) and the falafel (best I’ve ever had). It’s not that cheap (compared to the super cheap tapas bars) but worth it. We spend 40€ for 2. When you sit upstairs with this beautiful view, a little longer waiting time for the waitress is not too bad. Nevertheless 5 stars and an absolute recommendation!

Amazing, I have been here twice during my short vacation in Almeria. The view from the terrace is amazing, over the Alcazaba and the old city. The place is nicely decorated with lots of outdoor and indoor space. The mint lemonade refreshing and the homemade righifa just the perfect sweet treat. The service il also good, the lady managing the terrace was attentive, fast and polite, as well as the other ladies working there. Definitely a must visit when in Almeria.

Very tasty food, I got the chicken Tajin with simple couscous as side (was not on the menu I think). Much better than what I had before in other places, top of my top so far :) The lemonade was also good, a bit sweet but you can really taste the mint. Service was good, the rooftop terrace is also really nice, has a cozy atmosphere and good views of the Alcazaba. We easily reserved a table over the phone, probably a good idea since it was quite busy in the evening.

The expierence was horrible. The advertised with an English card. No one spoke English. They let us wait for 20 minutes to place the order. When they delivered food two dishes were missing. We wated another hour for the third course witch never came. Some dishes could'nt be made and were canceled when the Ford was delivered. So the kids got no sidedishes. Then they wanted to betray us with the payment. We ordered menus but they calculated every thing on its own... horrible! The look and the delivered were actually good. The staff was the problem and it is Not excused with the langusge and culture differences....
