Nature & Wildlife Areas
Llyn Idwal is a picturesque 28-acre lake, accessible via tranquil hiking trails that offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains. This child and dog-friendly area boasts a beautiful pebble beach, perfect for swimming on hot days. Comfortable footwear is recommended as the terrain can be slippery in places. The car park provides amenities such as toilets, seating areas, and a cafe offering both hot and cold beverages. Beginners will find the hike relatively easy with only minimal steep inclines along the way.
It’s a lovely lake with several hiking routes around, you can either do a circular route around the lake or hike up towards the devils kitchen or up Y garn! Great views of Tryfan and the Glyders with Pen Yr Ole Wen located just opposite the lake. The circular route is suitable for near enough everyone but hiking boots are advised due to uneven surfaces :)

Easy to moderate walk to the lake and around, not for people with mobility problems. Stunning scenery, beautiful landscape. Snow topped mountains and beautiful waterfalls. One thing was that a number of people walked their dogs off the lead, which was a shame to see as there are signs telling dog owners to keep dogs on a lead.

I loved this walk! I parked up at 7 am on a weekday to avoid the crowds and glad I did. I got this stunning walk to myself. As I was coming back down people were finally coming up. The car park at the bottom was full when I came back down. The walk itself was stunning, and we even sat down to enjoy breakfast. One of my favourite places now.

Such a stunning location! Really enjoyed walking the path round the lake, taking photographs and treasuring the beautiful scenery.

A superb child and dog friendly circular walk. It gives a feeling of being high in the mountains and and the lake is stunning. You need to visit this if travelling to the area. Please remember to wear decent shoes and we passed 2 people with sprained ankles who wore crocs and flip flops. The lake is ideal in a hot day and it’s a popular swimming location. The cafe at the carpark serves hot and cold drinks, and their are toilets and seating areas.

Well equipped visitors centre to learn more about the area. Did the 4.5km circular which was absolutely spectacular. Take jackets against the wind but it was an easy and beautiful hike.
Matt de Neef — Google review
Beautiful hike which is perfect for beginners, not too steep and pretty easy going for the most part. Can be a bit slippery but other than that great! I had no trouble and really enjoyed it, and I never hike! The views are amazing and worth every second!!

The view to the lake is just stunning. There are few hiking routes with a view to the lake as one is ascending. Some of the routes are quite difficult, especially the one through the devils kitchen where these images are taken from.

Snowy day a little chilly. Parked at the visitor centre car park £3 Quite lucky because cats where Parked everywhere and no spaces. Lot of people about, all ages. Some dog walkers. Variety of level, some people had ropes, crampons and ice axes, had obviously been higher up the slopes and rock faces on more challenging routes. We just did a circular route around the lake, In parts a little slippery and some deep snow here and the off the beaten path. Great scenery, great atmosphere. This place is top notch any time of year. Check the weather and wear rhe right gear.

This glacial lake is just a short walk from the main road (3/4 miles) but you could be in the wilderness surrounded by towering mountains and jagged peaks. Easy to forget the stresses of modern life when you visit this place. There is a short walk around the lake if you chose the path is up and down a little but not too hard to complete. Well worth a visit if you are in North Wales.
Skell Man — Google review
I saw someone's comment on here describing it as 'get into the mountains without climbing the mountains' and it couldn't be more right. Super easy walk and fantastic views. It was stunning on the foggy morning I went, I can't imagine how beautiful it must be on a sunny day ❤️ Will definitely be returning!
Natalie B — Google review
Lovely National Trust walk. Took a couple of hours and not too strenuous. Great way to spend the morning. Gets quite windy at some points. Uphill for a bit at the start but you won’t be too tired after this, the rest is mostly flat. Beautiful walk around the lake once you get to the top 😊
maisie carter — Google review
Overall Experience - definitely should visit once in your lifetime. View is breathtaking. Highly encouraged to wear more clothing as it gets windy and quite cold. Always recommend to wear hiking boots as the trails are rocky. Took us 3 hrs to complete the lake. Around 4.5 km. 1. Affordability - car park is £3 for 3 hrs or £6 per day. 2. Atmosphere - clean and windy.

Amazing lake, worth getting there, we did suffer as we walked in hot weather, but was worth it. Definitely need appropriate foot wear, some parts of the path are wet. Was really nice to relax there for a bit, got very busy by about 12pm

Walked the lower path round the lake. Stunning place to just forget about work etc and get away from it for a few hours. Pathways are looked after as well. The view down the valley is amazing and a good spot to sit down and chill out. Car park gets full very quick price wise its reasonable.

National Trust - Penrhyn Castle & Garden

Mentioned on

Historical landmark
Penrhyn Castle is a 19th-century neo-Norman folly located in the town of Conwy, on the north coast of Wales. The structure is both tasteless and spectacular, flanked by a Victorian walled garden. It's open to the public for free tours every day from 10:30am to noon.
We had a great time here. All the staff were pleasant, helpful and informative. The property is very well looked after with beautiful collections. The craftsmanship from a time gone by is exquisite (if like I you are interested in that sort of thing). A truly stunning castle. The grounds are gorgeous. The railway museum was a nice and unexpected find. Facilities were clean and looked after, prices typical of the National Trust. Small shop, but had all the things you expect to see available. We found the cafe selling light bites, we're not sure if there was one on site selling meals as such. Followed the Easter trail which was good fun (all on accessible areas). The playground isn't very big and got busy quickly but the kids enjoyed it. Definitely recommend a visit here.

WOW, if you want to visit a stunning castle in North Wales then this is a must. Glorious views, the castle itself is outstanding. The walled garden is beautiful. There is a train museum which is small but amazing. The castle inside is very ornate, with incredibly carved walls, ceilings and furniture. The black staircase is outstanding. One place to put on your bucket list.

Penrhyn Castle & Garden Bangor, Wales This was an incredible castle that is fully furnished as it was last lived in around the early 1950s. The level of opulence is really amazing. Reminded me of a mansion in New Port, Rhode Island. I really liked that you can explore the castle at your own pace although there is a set route to follow. Every single room is impressive. There's so much detail to notice in every single room. The family wealth came from owning the slate mines that North Wales is famous for. Since trains were needed to haul the workers and the stone, there is a really cool train museum built into the castle towards the end of the tour. I wasn't expecting that but they had some rare locomotives in perfect condition. The gardens of course are also great to check out. Highly recommended.
Jef Henninger — Google review
A fully furnished and well maintained 'historical family' residence, including servants and kitchen area to explore. Lots of interesting historical information, with guides to help and architectural features and many gargoyles to spot. Lovely gardens and landscape. A nice cafe area too.
Mandy Garfitt — Google review
UNWELCOMING AND RUDE STAFF, BARE BONES INSIDE BUT STUNNING VIEWS. The castle was absolutely beautiful and great to walk around, though some rooms felt very bare or just too staged. The gardens and walk around the castle was also absolutely stunning, though still just two/three hours worth of the place isn’t worth £15 per person. My main complaint however is with the staff - both the grounds staff and national trust staff at the welcome centre were pushy and rude. Me and my husband have no car, and therefore walked the 3/4 mile road to the welcome centre - as we did, a lady on a buggy stopped us and accused us of trespassing as we weren’t trust members. It was unwelcoming and accusatory, as all we were trying to do is walk to the castle to pay for our tickets. She accused us of trespassing on the properly and not paying, as „it’s very expensive to upkeep and people not paying can ruin it”, as if we weren’t clearly on the path toward the welcome centre. She then drove off after pretending to help direct us, then as we got to the welcome centre I asked the women there what the lady meant by trespassing, they told us that she had nothing to do with their charity and she was just a grounds keeper. They talked to us for like 10 minutes just about signing up to the trust even though we explained to her we just wanted our tickets. My husband is Polish and has a slight accent, and when he tried to ask for our tickets she badgered him with questions about where he was from and if he was on holiday, and it took me answering for him in my English accent for her to stop asking questions and blankly staring at him when he would answer. Insanely pushy and simply stare at you when you’re just trying to enjoy yourself in the castle, badgering you to join the tour even when you say you’d just like to walk around. Not a single person asked for our tickets, honestly if I go again I’ll simply just walk in because it was a waste of £30, on top of the extortionate prices in the cafe and gift shop.

Visited in September 2019 during my holiday in Wales. Earlier that day I walked up to Aber falls, and because I still had time after, I headed to this castle, because they are close to each other. It is very imposing from further and closer, too, especially with the ivy on the walls which became reddish close to autumn. It had a little railway museum in the courtyard, before I headed to the entrance of the castle. The view is fantastic as well as the interior. There are quite a few rooms to visit and the whole corridor, staircase, hall, everything is just so spacious and rich that I just wandered around with surprise and I couldn't take enough pictures. The dome is an architectural masterpiece, and those so many tiny details carved in are amazing. There are toilets and cafe in the basement, also at the railway museum, and then we can have a walk in the lovely garden. As far as I've seen seniors can go up by car to the castle, otherwise the visitor centre is a bit further down. It is a wonderful and impressive place to visit and I dare to say a must to see in Wales. National Trust site, so members go free. From the main road an arched stone gate leads to the estate - I missed it 2 times, so I thought better to warn others.

An absolutely wonderful castle/stately home. A beautiful place that has stood the test of time and is in impeccable condition throughout. Set in lovely grounds with a little buggy to take and fetch you if you have any walking difficulties. The area also contains an old railway museum which is also a must to see. The place is in the ownership of the national trust. So all staff are lovely, friendly and knowledgeable in all areas. A must to visit.
Andy Woodward — Google review
First time visit here. The castle when you are walking up to it is very majestic set among the tree and shrub line. It made for some lovely photos. Inside was smaller than I expected compared to others I’ve been too around the country. But there was enough to see as far as decor and history. We got there an hour before closing, so I guess the staff were winding down as there was hardly no one around to answer questions. I was a little disappointed that you weren’t allowed to venture further into some corridors, and the information boards set about didn’t really go in depth about the history of the castle. It was a very light touch. But interesting nonetheless. We didn’t venture to the garden walk, it was a wet day, so veered off to see the steam engines that were housed in the castle grounds. Quite interesting to see the history about the quarry and the locomotives that were used back in the day. All in all, a lovely place to visit. I personally don’t think it warrants a second visit as it’s so small compared to other places I have visited. But recommended most definitely if you’re passing or visiting the area.

What a fantastic hidden gem Penrhyn Castle was ! We arrived around lunchtime and the castle was busy but not overwhelming. We were able to park without hassle. We spent around 3 to 4 hours and left at closing time but you could easily spend a day there. The train museum is great for kids as they get a chance to climb on the engines. The castle itself is large and well kept. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and would definitely visit again!
Amy Ellis — Google review
Such a fantastic place to visit, even more so if it’s raining as most things are undercover. This has to be one of the more luxurious national trust properties, the public carpeted walkways had thick pile, everything was exceptionally cleaner than normal and the rooms were dressed beautifully. We were lucky enough to be given permission to play the piano too 🥰

Fantastic place to visit. Very nice grounds to walk, brilliant setting with great views. Definitely in my top 3 National Trust locations I've visited so far

Beautiful National Trust property. Pleasant staff. Very good Easter egg trail. Absolutely stunning interior decor. Railway way museum is alright there are much better out there. The star of the show is most definitely the castle. This was my second visit a good ten years apart I thought that there might be more of the castle open now. Such a shame one of the towers isn't open to take in the incredible vistas.
Howard Cragg — Google review
The most unique industrial castle we have ever seen. Massive beautifully decorated rooms with a lot of interesting history and many nice people that can explain it to you. The train expo is great as it brings you closer to the period of quarries and mining in Wales. A lot of space to walk, have a picnic or just sunbathe, a nice cafe and shop. What a great experience. Don't miss out.
Dodo D — Google review
Very interesting castle to visit, wonderful internal decoration especially stone and wood carving and plaster work. Though built by slave owner and industrialist family which does raise uncomfortable questions. A party house for Victorian nobility. Beautiful restoration of many areas.
simon harley — Google review
Fancy castle, not what could be excepted when you see the outside. It’s still furnished, with great taste. There also is a small railway museum, the Victorian kitchens and a walled garden. One of the best thing to visit in North Wales (especially if you are a NT member).
Damien Vanhille — Google review
This is one stunning (fake) castle built with money drawn from sugar plantations and slate mines. The place is huge as are the interior rooms and the stone carving is incredible. The estate outside is also beautiful with wonderful long views across the estuary and to the mountains. There's a great walled garden and some lovely walks through the trees. The cafe serves standard NT fare but really you don't come here for the food. Instead prepare to be wowed by the sheer amount of money spent creating this estate.
Damian Cannon — Google review
At just over 200 years old, this is a relatively new castle designed and rebuilt by its owners to impress visitors and display their wealth. The opulence of the interior, the abundant intricate masonry work, and the monolithic scale of the decor is overwhelming. It's mind-boggling to think how many great trees were felled in its making, probably one for each of the huge three inch thick interior doors alone. The grounds also boast several separate garden areas and plenty of paths around the estate to enjoy the scenery. If you want to be able to go somewhere where you gasp in wonder when entering nearly every room, then visit Penrhyn Castle.
Michael Lees — Google review
Brilliant castle. Rooms are awe-inspiring and beautifully restored. You get a real sense of the decadence and wealth of the place as it must have once been. The National Trustees and their team of volunteers do a great job of making you welcome and putting on a great Christmas event with crafts and a huge Christmas tree with messages of gratitude hung on its boughs. This is the second year we've visited it. The board games in the cafe are a real highlight.
Paul Lockhart — Google review
What a stunning castle, the best I've been to by far and I've visited many. Would be incredible if more of the upper rooms and a turret could be accessed for views out over the estate to sea. The grounds are also absolutely beautiful and in particular the walled garden. If you need something for the family to do in a rainy day then look no further. This is a gem of a place and we will look forward to returning the next time we are holding in the area.
Bunjiman — Google review
Wonderful castle, and beautiful garden. The bog garden leaves much to be desired... but the walled gardens are beautiful. The castle is wonderful, and has great views of the bay. Nice walk on the way up, and there is a shuttle if you want to take it. Just a lovely place to go round and explore. Staff were very knowledgeable.
Kel E-J — Google review
It is a great place to visit when you're a trust member as it is costs effective for visiting lots of the trust run places, but if you're choosing to pay the full admission price it can tally up a fair bit! There's plenty of blue badge parking near the visitors centre but there is also a small disabled parking area for those that need to use it near the castle. The car park itself seemed to offer ample free parking. There are toilet/ accessible toilets at the visitors centre as well as within the castle grounds. The accessible entrance to the castle is through the cafe/shop that is signposted in the court yard, we had a lovely staff member walk us through as the ropes had to be unclipped and she took us to start where the main entrance would come in so as not to miss anything. The whole of the ground floor is accessible to anyone with mobility issues in a wheelchair or other walking aids. There are places for people to sit and rest a while dotted about. If you want to see the information about the upper floor, there is a video available to sit and watch. The cafe staff were friendly and helpful, we just had a coffee but it was a decent one. The grounds have plenty of walks. There's a circular walk that is flat and has lots of benches at small intervals. We thought we would try the walled Gardens. It's very sloped, and we realised that it was going to take a bit of whelly getting back up with the wheelchair. The gardens were lovely, if not a little disappointing, that we could only access the top area and just overlook the lower sections! It would have been nice to wander around and enjoy the gardens more. After a strenuous return from the walled gardens, we enjoyed the picnic bench area in the sunshine where we had our packed lunch and a much needed rest. There was much more to explore here after our day out, and we will happily return another day as we really enjoyed the tranquillity of the grounds and accessibility of the castle and facilities. Dogs are welcome on leads.
S S — Google review
Great place to visit, enough options on menus at both cafés. Plenty of options in the gift shops. Do encourage if you were to visit the site multiple times, to purchase a membership, as admission is a little bit pricey, but won't be a problem with a membership. Parking was sufficient on arrival on a Sunday morning week before Easter, unsure of summer.
Rhodri Williams — Google review
This is really quite a remarkable and unique huge stately home very well preserved inside, including a huge Victorian kitchen, servants quarters etc - and it's built in the style of a castle. Absolutely go and see it - you won't regret it. Unique architecture and craftsmanship in the very lavish interior. The setting, grounds and views are something else too. Please note not all of it is currently open to the public, see below but even what you can see takes a long time to walk around and is well worth the admission fee. Needs more volunteers and funding to keep more rooms open to the public, so going to see it would help that too. It was a big highlight on our trip to north Wales. Pics speak for themselves.
Dani Wolf — Google review
Very impressive castle, with lovely gardens and a pleasure to veiw both inside and outside. It's a must to see the kitchen, it's definitely a far cry from the luxury of today and to imagine working in that while putting together fine meals for the Lord and his many guests, must have been a work of art. There's even an interesting little rail museum, that's also well worth a look. Mostly Victorian fancy furnishings on the inside of the castle that is all beautifully kept and still looking very nice indeed. Sad to think that the wealth to build this fine family home came from slave's working on the families plantations in Jamaica and then after the abolition of slavery, money from the family owned Welsh slate quarries helped to keep it going. Unfortunately there was no working classes back in those days, just poor and rich.... Lovely castle, well worth a visit.
marc greaves — Google review
Absolutely fabulous NT property. The castle is interesting to view. The railway museum is fabulous as you can get in some of the trains/carriages. The grounds are absolutely stunning, full of ancient oak trees, a beautiful garden and lovely hideaway by the brook. There's a lovely park, hidden away in the woods. The only tiny thing that let it down was a terrible dog owner who didn't clear up after their dog.
Catherine Simpson — Google review
Came here on a wet and very windy December day. Had a very warm welcome and was offered a buggy ride up to the castle. We walked up, which only took a few minutes. It was only the downstairs that was open, but that was all really well decorated for Christmas for Christmas. There were still loads to see and well worth a visit.

Wow!! What an amazing place to visit. Beautiful architecture and the most wonderful history. So much to see and so much to learn. Staff very welcoming and very knowledgable. Especially John in reception and a huge shout out to Phil in the main building. What Phil didn’t know wasn’t worth knowing! His enthusiasm and passion for imparting the historical information was second to none. He also set us a little task and gave us priceless nuggets of information about the historical occupants of this fine castle. Phil even answered our questions as he left for home, using more of his time to ensure we had a memorable experience. Throughly recommend that you visit this amazing place. Take your time, read everything and soak up the atmosphere. We will be returning in better weather to experience the grounds and gardens very soon. Say hi to Phil from us 🙂 Jo and Chris

Garth Pier

Mentioned on
Garth Pier is a tourist attraction that offers stunning views of the surrounding area. For a small entry fee of 50p, visitors can walk about halfway across the Menai Straight on the pier. The end of the pier features a tea shop that serves hot snacks, drinks and an array of cakes. The pier has recently been renovated and looks fantastic, with everyone involved in the project feeling proud of their work.
Just love Bangor Pier...a fabulous part of our history and on a glorious but chilly Spring day you can't beat a leisurely walk to the end, followed by a cuppa and a freshly baked scone from the cafe. Simply wonderful

We visited the pier in 2019 when it was still being renovated so could not get to the end of it. It is finished now, looks fantastic. The views are gorgeous and it is clear that everyone involved in the project is proud of it. They should be! You are simply asked for a small donation. Well worth a visit.

With an entry fee of only 50p (and an honesty box if the booth is not manned), the pier stretches about halfway across the Menai Straight giving good views of the surrounding area. There's a nice tea shop at the end serving hot snacks, drinks and a good selection of cakes. A really nice way to spend some time, even when the weather is a bit questionable!

Loved this pier, jutting out from Bangor towards Anglesey. Absolutely gorgeous award winning Pier of the year 2022. Multicoloured huts, beautiful scenery whichever way you look. Beautiful summer solstice 21/6/23.

Was lovely to again, after many years, stroll along this fine pier. The pier certainly takes a battering from the weather as it juts out into the Menai Straits but the folks there are actively maintaining the pier for generations to come. For an August weekend the weather was a little breezy but the cafe at the bottom of the pier offered sanctuary, there was even a live act on to entertain everyone.

Great walk along the pier, lovely clear winters day, nice little shops and a café at the end for a warming hot drink and slice of cake. Fantastic views highly recommended
Paul Winter — Google review
Nice looking, very long pier with nice café at the end but... Small parking with coins only machine and the weirdest pier location deserve 3stars max. There is no promenade, walk, shops or any other buildings of interest in vicinity of the pier so you have to drive there just to go on the pier and that's all there is.
D P — Google review
Lovely walk along this lovely old promenade. It was a very windy day but the views were stunning and worth the £1.50 parking charge. None of the little shops were open apart from the cafe at the end where we gad a warming cup of tea before wandering back to the car.

This pier is on the outskirts of Bangor, and has it's own car park. There is a welcoming cafe at the end selling delicious cakes. A bird watcher's paradise , especially when the tide is low, it is a calm and pleasant place to walk. We really liked the pier and it's lovely shops.

Lovely long peir, with cute stores selling a selection of items that usually you can't buy in the highstreet. Good for giving gifts. Very reasonably priced with a 50p entry fee to help keep the peir running. Lovely cafe at the end that is good priced and a lovely selection of cakes and coffees. It can be very cold and a little slippy in winter, great place to look for birds when the tide is out.

Lovely little Pier with great views, has had some work done over the years, you can now walk along to the very end, which is just a few hundred yards from Anglesey!! Had a nice cup of tea and a cake from the cafe at the end, not too far to walk there and back, a pleasant way to spend a bit of time, will defo go back again in the near future....
Derek Smith — Google review
Entrance to the pier wasn’t expensive. I believe it cost 50p for an adult and children were free. We enjoyed our walk down the pier and had good views up and down the Menai Straights. It was extremely windy that day so halfway down we stopped at a small hut for a cheese and onion toastie and a drink. The people that were working there were lovely- really friendly and helpful, and the food was great. There were other huts with gifts and art but were closed when we were there. At the very end of the pier is a larger cafe that appeared to have a bigger menu and spaces to sit inside. However we still had food and drinks from the other place so did not go in. Perhaps another time… It’s not a pier like in some big towns with loads to do but still makes for a lovely walk and some fresh air while watching the sea. If you need nothing more then I’d definitely recommend a wander.

With a semester done, Bangor University has been a breath of fresh air among all the others I have checked out for my Masters. I am doing my MA in Business and Marketing and Bangor Business School has all the facilities to equip us with whatever we needed, knowledge and experience with real life examples. The Library is a big help with abundance of resources. With Bangor being a quiet place, you tend to rely on people and the University has the most exciting societies to pass time with. The student accommodations are excellent and is a great place to build connections with people all around the world. Looking forward to my next semester!

Lovely university. i will still give them four stars as other people enjoyed we had issues that were to do with problems outside university control and the staff weren't good with it all. They are very good at sorting problems with accommodation etc. which is nice to know. but saying that the staffing and the lectures were nice to go to and hear stories it was nice to meet all those brilliant people it’s a good university and teras cafe is good and bar uno and the student events are even better although they do close in the off season when exams are on having the bar open then would help with exams as people need study and leisure at the same time. It’s a good university a fun place to learn and it’s worth it good luck future students! but dont go with a MH condition they will exclude you and the odds are they don't like you then.

Cadeirlan Deiniol Sant ym Mangor | Saint Deiniol's Cathedral in Bangor

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Saint Deiniol's Cathedral, located in Bangor, boasts an elegant and spacious interior with exceptional acoustics. The cathedral is a stunning venue for hosting concerts - be it choral, brass or silver band performances. During Christmas season, the cathedral is adorned with beautiful decorations including trees, making it even more remarkable. Dating back to the 11th century, this historic cathedral is truly magnificent and worth visiting.
Lovely place to visit and such a warm welcome, I had a lovely chat with the lady on duty and also spoke about the church I work at in London. It is well worth a visit to this beautiful church.

Never ever been inside this cathedral before, but I was taken back at the sheer size of it inside!! a very elegant interior with excellent acoustics. We held a Christmas concert (Rhos Male Voice Choir) 16th December 21 in aid of the emergency services and the acoustics were amazing, the interior was also amazing given the time of year (Christmas) Tree and decorations etc, ideal venue to hold a choral concert/Brass/Silver Band etc

This small but beautiful cathedral traces it's roots to as far back as AD 525, which made it only the second cathedral in Britain at the time. Nothing of the original buildings remains however. Nor does anything of the subsequent Norman structure constructed in the 12th Century. The current structure we see today was constructed between 1480 and 1532. Older tombs were moved into the building we see today it is worth noting. Inside the little cathedral is quite a beautiful place. Everything is spotlessly maintained and polished and preserved and well lit. It is even heated in parts. I was fortunate to visit when the cathedral was empty and explore it at will. There are too many ornate points of interest to mention within the building and photographically it is a dream. The dark, carved Mostyn Christ that dates back to the late 1400's is something that really caught my eye on the wall to the right just before the main exit. The church is free to enter but there is a little donations table that takes bank cards. This did not intrude upon the spirituality of the place for me. I did not see evidence of a little shop within the cathedral when I was there thankfully. I don't know if this has been permanently closed?. There are nearby paying car parks and a small disabled only car park close the cathedral itself. There is a disabled lift at the main exit. Opening and closing times change daily, so it is important to know these before visiting. There were no guides present on my visit, but I have heard these can be present at busier times. A beautiful place that is well worth a visit in my opinion.

Very nice cathedral in the centre of Bangor. I didnt go inside but spent a while wandering around the outside taking photos. This is a beautiful yet modest place and worth seeking out. Nice views of the University buildings in the backgound. If visiting by train I recomment a cicular walk going up Holyhead Road, Turning right down College Road just after the chapel and head for the main University Buildings above the City. Walk down the hill to the City itself where you will find the Cathedral and wander back to the station via High Street.

I had a fantastic experience in this cathedral because it was the first time that I went to an english ceremory at the church and I felt included, thank you for welcoming me in this special ceremony. The cathedral is very pretty inside too. I will definitly come back 😊😊

Amazing atmosphere and very kind people. There is coffee, tea and wine after every Sunday service. Share lunch events every few months after service and mince pies during Christmas season.
Agita Busa-Pearce — Google review
Because St Deiniol was consecrated bishop in 546, Bangor claims to be the oldest diocese in Britain, fifty years before St Augustine arrived in Kent from Rome. But there's the rub - he wasn't consecrated by the Pope or a representative thereof. St Deiniol was of the Celtic church. Regardless, the site of the cathedral is plainly ancient, but the present structure is largely late-medieval. The guides inside were very friendly, even if they seemed apologetic that their cathedral lacked size or cachet. I would certainly say it is larger than a large parish church and there is certainly much of interest and beauty within. I was certainly taken by a couple of paintings done by a local painter called John Gregory using contemporary figures in the style of Caravaggio. I was an hour in the cathedral. My only complaint is that there's no guidebook in English to allow me to learn more about it.
Nicholas Casley — Google review
Not a big grand, tourist exploiting spot, but a little gem nonetheless. Some unusual and interesting religious art, ancient and modern, to see, with leaflets to inform visitors about historical aspects. Also a cute thing for kids to do is to find the wee carved mice dotted around the church. I believe they get a little knitted mouse if they find them all. Note; not the ancient plushie rat in my photographs... he's mine XD

Experience a unique twist on classic pub food with stunning coastal views at The Oyster Catcher. This renowned pub restaurant on the south coast offers a gourmet take on traditional English fare. Indulge in dishes like Cheese and Onion Pie served alongside chunky chips, or enjoy a more traditional Cream Tea or scones. During winter, warm up with top-quality soups that will surely satisfy.
Booked for my daughters birthday recently, thoroughly enjoyed it. Lovely building by the sea(would benefit from improved outside lighting at night). Service was friendly and helpful, food was delicious with good decor and atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

Really great experience. Warm & friendly welcome, plenty of seating options inside and outside. It’s in a really great spot. Lunch was absolutely delicious too. Can’t wait to go back. Don’t forget there’s options downstairs too if you want something more casual. Plenty of parking, it’s dog friendly, and a short walk to the seafront too.

So, based on a friend's recommendation, we decided to check out this place, which boasts a killer setting as both a restaurant and a bar. We swung by for a late Sunday lunch, and even though it was pretty busy, it wasn't jam-packed. The service was super friendly, and we loved the views. Now, onto the grub. The lamb and the beef beetroot Wellington were really tasty. That lamb? Oh man, it was top-notch. But here's the downer: the veggies were way too crunchy for our liking. The roast potatoes and Yorkshire pud were on point, but the veg? Meh. And don't get me started on the cauliflower cheese – raw cauliflower in a pretty bland sauce. We were hyped for the pineapple crumble, but it seemed like it could've spent a bit more time in the oven and had some spice added. On the flip side, the Eton mess totally hit the spot. Both big portions and super sweet if that's your thing. Quick heads-up: despite signs saying no to dogs, we spotted a few well-behaved furry friends. So, if you're allergic, maybe give it a miss. All in all, it didn't quite live up to the hype, but we get why it's a hotspot.

Excellent restaurant, great food, amazing staff and really good view and feel. We are not vegan or veggie but my wife chose the cauliflower steak and lentil dahl dish. This was amazing and something we would choose again. I have eaten a lot of sticky toffee pudding in my life as it is my favourite dish, and this was the best one I have ever had. Helpful and lovely server Lauryn served us. Wish we lived closer to visit more often!

Would recommend booking a table as this restaurant is highly sought after - for good reason. The food was absolutely delicious, as was the wine. Great and friendly service. Beautiful views from where we were sitting. Dog friendly too if you have pets! Will eat here again if back in the area.
Yvette Schutten — Google review
Nicely done out restaurant with lots of space outside including a food truck in beer garden serving snacks to punters. Food is expensive so you expect it to be top quality and it was for the most part. Steak was served with vine tomatoes or in my case, just one, which was very stingy. Chips came in one of those cups which I don’t like - it’s just unnecessary faff aimed at supplying less chips. Fish n chips portions were decent. Fish could have been a little firmer but chips were good and peas also nice. Overall service was good and I’d go again - just a shame about the mistakes.
Del213 — Google review
It was wonderful to eat inside the restaurant, not just the bar, which was also lovely, as a family while visiting, and have our two dogs sit with us. Dogs are welcome, and well catered for. We will certainly return

We've been able to get table on terrace on lovely sunny day. Staff was nice but waiting was bit long probably due to being a busy day. Big portions of food and everything was cooked to high standard. Good parking facilities free of charge. Me and my daughter had fish and chips and that was lovely. My son had steak and he enjoyed it and my husband had salad. Salad could be bit bigger portion in my husbands opinion.
Andrea Cervenakova — Google review
Fantastic location right off the beach and a good place to book for an early dinner. The staff were super friendly and we were allowed to bring the dogs into the dog area of the restaurant. Make sure you book your spot in advance. I had the Greek salad starter which was very nice and the Moule Marinier which was nice. Just wish it had more garlic. My girlfriend had the fish and chips and thought the dish was great. The inch’s cider was very nice too.

I'm a local singer songwriter and I'm usually performing at this venue, not eating. First time I've ever eaten there, and waw! Me and my wife decided to go on a date here, and it was absolutely amazing. Service was 10/10, welcoming smiling. The wait for the food was 15 mins or so, and it was pretty busy still. We had the tomahawk steak share for mains and it was incredible, perfectly cooked, cos on the side we delicious and the peppercorn sauce was too die for! Absolutely 100% reccomend dining out at this fantastic establishment 5*****
Josh Weaver — Google review
Nothing exceptional about this place, although decent enough to be worth visiting at some point. The best thing I have noticed is a great atmosphere with ideally suitable decorations all around. I also assume they have an amazing view during day, but I cannot tell as I gave it a visit when it was a complete darkness outside already. I ordered Cornish Hake Kyiv and Apple n Berries Crumble. Both dishes looked pleasing, however i felt like the Cornish was overpriced as it was quite a small portion with no special filling inside. Likewise, I didn't really love the crumble, yet still I suppose this one will likely please others. Overall, this place seems like one with a good potential, but just not as quite as it could suit my preferences entirely.
Mark Tarnavskyi — Google review
Really nice food, great big portion of fish and chips.. Lovely fish Kyiv was excellent too. Good range of beers, gins and alcohol free too
Martin Connell — Google review
Absolutely delightful experience. Service was great, the food was impeccable with a beautiful view to boot. We shared some sourdough, burrata, oysters and the crab cocktail (all highly recommended). For the mains, we enjoyed the curry and seafood fettuccine. Although the portions for the pasta were huge, so you could consider sharing. The restaurant is by the beach too, which was the perfect way to end off our dinner.

WOW! What a place! The food is fantastic, one of the best fish and chips I've ever tasted. Kids burger and chips is a decent and all the portion sizes are really good. The restaurant is in a gorgeous area with easy access to the sand dunes and is dog friendly. Ideal for a meal after walking the dog. Highly recommend.

This was a surprise find on our way back from Holyhead. Unfortunately the main restaurant was fully booked but the fish smelled amazing. We ended up getting food from the shack, some loaded fries and pizza. It was decent if not mind blowing. Atmosphere was great. Good music, some okay beer. Dog and family friendly. Plenty of parking too and access directly on to the beach.

All round a lovely place to sit and chill on the dunes for a drink and snacks after enjoying your day on Anglesey. Only ever used Will's bar, not the restaurant upstairs. Drinks are fairly expensive as is the bar food but worth it for the location. Service can be slow at the bar but one of the only places in the area open all day everyday so if like us you are not a night owl it's a winner

A busy venue, the food is pretty standard fare for this franchise, but the staff very were very good and the location with a window seat giving good views over the marina did elevate the whole experience.

Stood waiting at the bar for ages. No one available. Staff walking past but no one bothered to serve us. Eventually someone did come to take our drinks order. Asked what time did they stop serving food and was told they are preparing for morning now! It wasn't very late. Won't be returning.
karen Boodle — Google review
Was very quiet in there, restaurant area is clean and pkeasant with a lovely view of all the boats in the harbour. Considering it was so quiet the service was ridiculously slow. The lady on the bar was too busy chatting to a couple of regulars to notice us come in, we waited a while until one of them pointed out to her that we were waiting to be seated. She immediately asked if either of us had allergies which was great, I said Gluten and she sat us down and said she would get us a GF menu. We sat there for about 15 more minutes while she chatted away until someone else came out to take our order, which we hadn't decided as the menu hadn't been provided. They didn't have a GF menu, just a massive printed excel spreadsheet of all the allergens in all the food which was very difficult to understand. I gave up and ordered a jacket potato. The food was very nice and tasty, my wife's chicken burger was excellent. salad had been prepared a long time ago though to the point that the quartered tomatoes were practically sun dried. What let the place down even more than the slow service was the toilet. Urine all over the floor, and dried urine footprints leading out of the toilets. It stank. An hourly cleaning checklist which hadn't been signed since the previous day at midday, it was 4pm on Monday. Price was good as we took advantage of the weekday deals. Would probably go again if there was nowhere else open but otherwise no.

Decent busy franchised restaurant.easy food good selection of beer and wine. Kids menu. Easy dinning. Veiws over the harbour are really nice.

Below par. We have visited on several occasions and always had great service, poor young girl waiting tables, serving at the bar and clearing back seemed to be doing all the work, on her own. Her customer service skills needed a polish, but understandable when you're over work, probably underpaid. Food was of a good standard, clean fresh food, no issues.

Went in here for a pint just after 9pm on a Sunday. Pub is open until 10:30. I was told by the barman that he couldn’t serve me as he’d done the tills…. The local spoons got my business instead. When I next go in work I think I’ll just work half a shift see how my boss likes it.
Derek Culver — Google review
Service was slow and poor, nachos didn’t come with salsa as advertised and a huge number of items were unavailable including hot chocolate. The vegan burger tasted great as did the chips with gravy.
The Hungry Foodie — Google review
Decent food. Friendly service. Does the job. No frills.
Joshua — Google review
Ordered two hot chocolates and too coffees. The kids hot chocolates had no chocolate in them! Apparently they had run out of chocolate mix so the served up some watery concoction with caramel syrup in them, without even telling us. If they were honest about it we could have ordered a proper drink rather than some sweet dishwater looking thing. No offer of a refund or anything. Won't be going there again.

Close to the waterfront and the neighbouring Premier Inn. Fairly standard pub fair but super value deals before 18:00. The smothered chicken was great and double up on the chicken breast for only £1.90!! It does get pretty busy though. It’s not easy getting staff these days.

Sheeps and Leeks, a renowned eatery in Caernarfon, offers an exquisite dining experience with its delectable cuisine and friendly service. This fine dining restaurant is known for its exceptional value for money, making it a top choice among food enthusiasts. The menu features a variety of mouthwatering dishes such as BBQ Pig Cheek, Local Peas, Cabbage & Rice.
What an amazing experience. We had the 10 course, menu. This took from 6.45 to around 10.00, felt a little rushed towards the end. Each course was exquisite in both flavour, content and presentation. Each course individually presented to each table. There were pre starters, starters, fish, main a cheese course and dessert courses. The restaurant has seating for 20 which was cosy and you had enough space from the other tables. The serving on staff had to be exceptional knowledgeable about each dish, and were. This is an occasion meal and can easily recommend this to others. I would certainly try and book if I was coming back to caernarfon in the future.

Was spending time out in North Wales and booked last minute. Paul, the head chef was really kind and accommodating. Rupert was excellent as head waiter with a great team. The food was exceptional. I was in jeans and trainers but made to feel very welcome. Ate alone and had the 10 course taster and the four hours flew by and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Will go back.

What a fantastic experience! We had the 10 course tasting menu. Every course was exquisite and delicious. We have recently eaten at a Michelin starred restaurant and have to say I was not expecting Sheeps and Leeks to be as good. I am amazed that it hasn’t already been awarded a Michelin star. The restaurant itself is very understated but fine. However the food and the staff were fantastic. Can’t wait to return next time we visit Caernarfon!

Really enjoyed our visit, the cuisine is of a very high standard. Recommend pairing the wine with each of the courses, as it is carefully selected as a compliment. The service was very good too. A good fun evening!

When the cutlery and the glassware sparkle back at you, it make you think you are in for something good and oh boy was it better than good. This was the best taster menu we have had in a long time and probably in the top 2. Loved the way the trainees came down and talked about the food. I highly recommend a visit but not on the days we are going back please. It's a shame the star rating only goes to 5.

Such a worthy winner of Wales Casual Dining Restaurant of the Year. The 7 course tasting menu is truly exceptional. The dry aged Sirloin with Kale & Snowdon Valley Mushrooms was a particular stand out course, so too the line caught Sea Bass and Crab. A big thank you to Paul Hearn and his team for all their hard work in providing a wonderful evening 👍🏻

What an amazing experience. Unforgettable evening. Food was delicious. I was trying to choose my favourite dish but first plate was fantastic and every other one was just better than a previous. Amazon service from Rupert and fantastic dishes from Chef an a team. If you are in North Wales you have to book a table here. Highly recommend a place. Will definitely come back
Tomasz Wisniewski — Google review
Firstly, If you enjoy tastes and flavours and finding intriguing culinary combinations then this place is for you. Kitchen on the first floor so was greeted by Paul and the team as we entered and then gently ushered down to the dining area by Rupert. Made to feel very welcome and the dining room seat a maximum of 19 so you know already it's not mass catering to push through covers. Drinks, like the menu itself, thoughtfully local with the obvious exception of the wine. Good selection of everything. Rupert gives that wonderfully balanced amount of fuss and discreetness so that we felt entirely looked after without someone hovering over you as you eat and chat. Kudos also to Seren (I hope that was right) on her first full shift, very diligently listing the ingredients for and generally being lovely. Have I told you how good the food is yet? No? Well let me tell you it's fabulous start to finish. As you expect from a tasting menu each course is presented as smaller plates but heaped with interesting and perfectly cooked dishes. I hope that when you visit you get to experience the beef course we did as it was simply melt in the mouth and full of different combinations. Really that seems to be Paul's watch word with his cooking. Unlike some other tasting restaurants which focus on Dalian-esque presentation or some gimmicky cooking style (I don't need great tasting food presented on a cushion of porcupine smoke supported by replicas of the Elgin marbles carved out of sunflower seeds) the focus is deftly combining different tastes to create very subtle but flavoursome dishes. Trying to pick out the various ingredients became all part of the night and very rewarding to pick out the subtler ones. Lastly the boring bit, for two people with drinks our bill came to less than £130 which in my mind is actually a bargain for the for the food presented. I've eaten at other restaurants where the starting price per person for a tasting menu is that amount and the food not even half as good. Was left feeling pleasantly full not grossly full and whilst I might have said I could have eaten it all again that's very much wishful thinking (and I'm not a small eater!). So if you are even vaguely near Caernafon (it's 300 miles from my front door sadly) and want to eat really excellent food in a relaxed setting then you won't beat Sheeps and Leeks. Bravo Paul and co!

The Gunroom Restaurant is a British and Welsh restaurant located in Caernarfon, offering an exquisite dining experience. The owner, aged 36, has opened this restaurant in Menai Bridge named Theodore's after his son. The staff are impeccably dressed and provide attentive service without being overbearing. The food is described as exquisite with a November menu that left patrons speechless. Despite the high prices, visitors find the small dishes between courses to be a nice addition to the dining experience.
Had an amazing experience. We are gluten and dairy intolerant and for the first time in an absolute age we felt normal as they totally catered for us. Overall a great experience and we particularly enjoyed the in between canapés. The lamb was also delicious. Removing a star because the deserts were a bit disappointing. We had a reservation for 18.00. However the fine print on the confirmation email stipulated we should have been there 30 minutes early which we did not realise as we expected a 18.00 reservation was in fact a 18.00 reservation. The whole mix up caused the waiter to become very worked up and unfortunately, very rude and unprofessional. We raised it to the management in our feedback but they did not take well to constructive feedback and continued the unprofessionalism that we experienced in the dining room. If we were expected to arrive at 17.30 for a 18.00 perhaps the Gunroom should call the reservation what it is, a reservation for 17.30. Edit: we were the first to be seated in the dining room. The other guests followed us in from the front room. Seeing your feedback about guests starting to you eat, you might be mixing us up with someone else.

The Gatehouse Steakhouse is a charming restaurant in Wales that offers exceptional food and service. Visitors rave about the delicious steaks, with one guest calling it the best they've ever had. The cowboy ribeye is particularly popular, cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. The cozy, old-timey decor adds to the overall dining experience. In addition to steaks, the tuna steak and burgers are also highly recommended.
This has to be the best tuna steak I have ever had! Beautifully presented and very generous portion. Loved our starters too. I highly recommend it also very friendly lovely staff.

Best steak I've had! I ordered the cowboy on the bone rib eye, Medium-rare. Seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection! I would have happily paid triple for the quality that was provided. My wife had the burger which was also beautifully cooked and delicious! Friendly and attentive staff, would recommend to anyone and everyone!

Nice little steakhouse. Staff were friendly but rushed off their feet due to a no show. But they apologised and were easy to call over if needed. Food quality was good, but not excellent but we were all happy when we left. Some large cuts of steak available for sharers or particularly hungry people. We are local now so I'm sure we will be back. At the time of posting they were only accepting cash payment, so check when booking if that is needed. There are banks nearby if an ATM is required.

Whilst visiting North Wales for a break away and revisiting places I had gone to some 35 years ago as a kid we were looking for somewhere nice to eat and found this delightful place. Having done a very limited amount of research, reading reviews, we decided this was the place for us and to be honest we were not disappointed, the food and service was exceptional and really good value for money. Fabulous meal, compliments to the chefs and the two young ladies serving were an absolute credit to the establishment! Can we also tip our hats in respect to the owner who's answers to some of the "feedbacks" on here are simply brilliant! We need more people like John who tell it like it is!

*Former chef and Steak-aholic* Honestly, best steak I've ever had in my whole life. I'm not even saying it. Everything was absolutely delicious. Me and three friends came to Wales for the weekend and one friend recommended this place. I got the 12oz cowboy ribeye medium-rare and it was absolutely amazing. Cooked to perfect, seasoned perfectly and just downright delicious. Service was fantastic and everyone was lovely. The decor of the place was beautiful and cute-old-timey. Fantastic. Can't wait for our next trip here x

Reasonable food and price. Really enjoyed my “Death by Chocolate” dessert. Excellent service with cosy indoor and pleasant outdoor seating. Do take note they only accept cash.

The food was delicious but scored low as the service was really..really slow, and the waitress did come back several times to confirm our order. And please check your bill as we were over charged by £45. The restaurant did resolve the issue.

One of the few restaurants with covered outdoor seating. One way system. Cash only. Waitresses were trying their best they can given how busy it was. Food is good ( but wouldn't rave about it). Wide range of selection in the menu and portion is good. Burger was nice and garlic bread was freshly baked. The churros looks good but I was too full and didn't get the chance to try it
