County Wicklow

County Wicklow is a region south of Dublin in the east of Ireland. It’s known for its namesake mountains, Irish Sea coastline, country estates and the Wicklow Way. The 129km walking trail traverses the county, passing through Wicklow Mountains National Park. Within the park are glacial lakes, rivers and Glendalough, the remains of an early-medieval monastic settlement in a forested valley.

Avoca Handweavers

Mentioned on
Store
Sights & Landmarks
Avoca Handweavers is the oldest functioning handweaving mill in Ireland, and it offers tours to visitors who want to observe the production process up close. In addition to the tours, there is a store selling clothing and home goods that are made on site. The factory store is well-stocked for shoppers seeking unique items. There is also a lunch counter serving tasty meals on location.
Lovely place to go especially on a sunny day...we went a bit hiking then there ... shop+ live music ( don't know they play everyday or just Sunday)+ lunch if you want...
Sigita Jen — Google review
A lovely little slice of history. The Avoca mills are the oldest in Ireland. We pulled up in the car park up the road in Avoca and visited the church before walking up the road to the old mill. The buildings were brilliant and the shops full of the mills produce. Find tapestry and handwoven crafted items. The mills team were very kind. We didn't do the tour or stop in the cafe as it was only a quick visit. Would highly recommend.
Craig Picton — Google review
My 14 year old and I visited Avoca last week.I love Avoca stores. This is the original location and where the fabrics are actually made. We took a tour with Allan. Wow. Fascinating history. Allan was wonderful and funny. The tours helped us appreciate Avoca even more. Products are high end and beautiful. Each of their shops are expertly curated. The best place for gifts. Scarves, blankets, coats, throws, tea pots, food, candles., From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the staff. Really impressed by Avoca. Rich history. This is a special place. Coco Chanel would use Avoca fabrics. Cafe: pleasant spot. They have salads and sandwiches and high quality food. As for the cafe, the coffee is terrible. They also need more gluten free options.
Nettie Atkisson — Google review
Great to see this place open again, we picked up lots of the fridge takeaway food which was sooo good. Unfortunately they didn't have any gluten/dairy free treats/food in the cafe part, would be nice to see this come in and Oat Milk! (The Oatly brand is the business as the Alpro brand tastes strange) :-) see you soon!
Martina Mahady — Google review
Found a nice place to visit on the weekends- Avoca Handweavers wasn’t crowded on a cloudy day and we’ve got a personal guided tour on the mill with Jeff. Delighted with how interesting and inspiring was the tour! Thank you very much! Then had shopping and lunch in the Avoca cafe. All dishes were delicious!
Polina Pchelkina — Google review
After seeing some knitted goods in stores around Ireland, my wife and daughter decided they had to make a stop here. So we went out of our way and found Avoca Handweavers. A beautiful and historic location with an opportunity to see the process up close, a well stocked factory store and a really good lunch counter. Win, win, win.

Lovely place to discover the oldest business still in activity in Ireland. Allan is a friendly guide to talk to and the guided tour is worth is if you want to learn about the process. Definately a visit to make when you are in the Wicklow county.

We took the tour with Jeff and enjoyed it immensely we found it very informative and interesting and enjoyed taking photos on the traditional loom! Stayed for lunch in the café and sat for a while down by the river at the picnic benches. Would definitely recommend if you are in the area
Conor Walsh — Google review
It's such a beautiful spot with gorgeous woven blankets. The store is a feast for the eyes and the cafe fills the tummy. No tours in winter but you can peer in the windows.
Robin Thorneycroft — Google review
Our visit was amazing! Allan provided a fantastic tour of the Mill! We learned so much of the history. He was incredibly knowledgeable. It made us appreciate our purchases from the store even more to see how the blankets and scarves are made on site. Lunch at the cafe was delicious. We had visited 20 years ago and have such wonderful memories of Avoca Handweavers. This trip was even better than we remembered! Highly recommend.

Great informative tour by Alan. Enjoyable and interesting. He was a lively and enthusiastic guide. Lovely location for a day out. Thanks a million.

Love absolutely everything about this place! The history, the food, the amazing wool products/gift shop, and most of all the amazing tour! Allan was great showing us around and now we don’t want to leave. This is a must stop!

A hidden gem, located in the lovely area of County Wicklow. ***We felt true dedication from the tour guide Jim, you could hear the passion in his voice*** The history behind the place really ties with Irish heritage, it was great to hear all the stories, you really appreciate the dedication from the people who worked there in the past but also who are there today.

Avoca Miners' Cross

Mentioned on
Memorial
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Miner's Cross in Avoca Valley is a remarkably scenic location with breathtaking views of the valley. However, it's advised to park your car midway as the road leading up to the site is quite damaged. The area may seem reminiscent of a war-torn country, but it still exhibits life even during winter. The park provides an excellent viewpoint overlooking Vale of Avoca and serves as a worthwhile destination despite any vehicle servicing that may be required.
Great view on a sunny day. Short walk. No space to park
Mirek Wnek — Google review
A stunningly beautiful place. Amazing views looking over the valley of Avoca. I would recommend leaving your car somewhere half way of the gill as the road it's really damaged. Never been in a country devastated by war. But I'm sure that's how a road will look like. Had to service my car after. Was it worth it?! Yes!

The Mottee Stone

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Motte Stone, a massive quartzite boulder believed to have been left on the ridge by a receding glacier during the last ice age, is an intriguing historical landmark surrounded by legends. One myth suggests that Fionn MacCumhaill threw the stone from Lugnaquilla Mountain. The stone bears a cup-shaped mark on its top surface and has metal bars hammered into one side as a ladder. It is considered the largest Bullaun stone in Ireland.
Lovely short walk from the parking area. Stunning stone surrounded by fantastic views with great local folklore about it too. Will be back for a picnic in the summer! 😁
Eoin Ó Siochrú — Google review
Nice place for a visit, the musical steps are a good touch
Annette Connor — Google review
Worth talking the very short walk up to the stone. Breathtaking views (can see Whales from the top of the stone) on a clear day.
Wade Grimbeek — Google review
Beautiful view wherever you look. Magical place.
Ewa Winkel — Google review
Views are amazing from here. Well worth a visit at sunrise or sunset as both can be seen
Trevor Quinn — Google review
Great views from the top, especially at sunset 😍 The stone is very impressive as are the folktales. Warning! DO NOT follow Google maps. The road to the carpark from the south west will wreck your vehicle. Take the same road from the other direction (north East) from Avoca mines area, it's a way better road.
B R — Google review
Even when the weather is terrible its definitely worth a visit. There is a path directly up to the stone. It is a huge quartzite boulder appears to have been deposited on the ridge by a receding glacier during the last ice age). All sorts of legends surround this stone one suggests that Fionn MacCumhaill hurled the Motte Stone from the top of Lugnaquilla Mountain. Metal bars have been hammered into it on one side to provide a ladder. The Motte Stone is probably the largest Bullaun stone in the country due to its cup shaped mark on its top surface
Volpaire — Google review
Good fun climbing with toddler. Easy track to follow from road, but rough, only a few min walk to Mottee Stone. Walk can be extended.

The Happy Pear is a colourful, natural food market with organic products, as well as a cafe. It's located in Greystones, Wicklow and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Delicious coffee and freshly baked in store pastries and bread. Great organic shop for fruit and veg, sauces, ready made meals and vegan / vegetarian cook books. It’s a very nice place for a healthy, delicious breakfast and lunch. Highly recommend.

The best VEGAN restaurant on the island. Fantastic in every aspect. The water is probably the best I have ever tasted in the world. Delicious Lasagna with pasta salad Caesar salad and The Reuben were outta this world!!! The staff was cheerful, everyone was smiling and the facility was spotless. If we ever return to Ireland, we will return here first. Highly recommend. ✌️❤️🙏☘️

Happy pear.. happy me! Happy to eat this anyday. Cozy interior with great outdoor seating, friendly service staff, I had the lasagna that came with two side salads - it was full of flavour, great balance in textures. What more could one ask for? This - please open a shop closer to Dublin!!

Simple business model: -everyone is smiling and friendly -everything is fresh -they have PROPER fresh bread -everyone have a time to talk to you -are you meat eater? Great! You’ll see how great the food without meat can taste like -they somehow managed to make decaf coffees to taste good! -go there during the week-days! -ask them about anything, they know -extra points earner if you wear VivoBarefoot -everyone is smiling and friendly

Happy Pear is a heaven for vegans and vegetarians. The promised organic product quality is evident in the taste and freshness of the food. Be it presentation or unique simplicity of the menu, Happy Pear will not disappoint you. The icing on the cake is the outdoor seating and nearby Greystone beach which is a perfect picnic spot on a sunny day. One must visit regardless of their food(veg/non-veg) preferences.

I absolutely love The Happy Pear! I always visit when I'm in Dublin - it is the perfect spot for dubious food that is actually healthy too! First class! This os certainly the prize after walking the coastal path from Bray to Greystones which I also recommend!
Shazzy's Adventures in Rosie With Smudge — Google review
Amazing vegetarian food! I tried red lentil lasagne which comes with any two salads - I tried the vegetarian Caesar salad and some other corn and cabbage salad. Everything tasted delicious and was very filling. The only issue I encountered when sitting outside is the birds - some people feed them, so they pretty much surround the customers.
Marija M. — Google review
Very nice place to be outside in a sunny day. I’m far from being vegan but the food was just delicious, full of flavour. Had a iced coffee (they have regular milk for people like me). Staff very friendly and helpful.
Marcela da Silva — Google review
I was very excited to go as a vegan but it didn’t live up the hype. I had the soup and falafel wrap and it was nice but I kind of expected the menu to have a few things I would desperate to try but it was all standard vegan food

"This establishment is truly exceptional, offering a delightful selection of both delicious and nutritious cuisine. What sets it apart is not only the quality of the food but also the warm and welcoming atmosphere fostered by the attentive owners who personally engage with customers. Their genuine friendliness and positivity create a unique experience that transcends mere dining; it's a lifestyle that inspires and uplifts. Highly recommended for anyone seeking not just a meal, but an enriching culinary journey."

Delicious lunch trip! Dropped in for a quick bit to eat and got the falafel wrap with a side salad. The food was delicious! It was pretty well priced and the portion was honestly enormous. The wrap was very dense so the side salad was not needed at all though it was tasty! We were able to sit outside under an awning and there is seating inside upstairs too.
Emily Hunsley — Google review
One of the best vegan restaurants I’ve been to. The food is delicious, and there are so many options! They have a cafe onsite as well for baked goods and coffee. The vibes and staff were amazing and I can’t wait to visit again!
Enisha Sehgal — Google review
This is probably one of the best restaurants I have ever been to! I have been waiting years to eat here and it did not disappoint. Everything was spectacular! I suggest getting the Buddha Bowl because then you get a little bit of it all. It fills you up quickly though! The brownie and chocolate cookie were divine! The lasagne looked impeccable but we could not fit another bite. The only downside is all the birds attacking you while eating outside. But otherwise it was perfect and all the staff were the kindest and happiest people I’ve ever met.

Brunch restaurant
Restaurant
This Bray restaurant is loved by locals for its delicious food and casual yet refined atmosphere. The menu features seasonal local ingredients and the staff are dressed in white shirts and aprons, making them look professional and smart. The fish and chips are delicious, as is the brownies and sticky toffee pudding. The tacos are a little small, but if you like your pie on the tart side, go for it.
This is my second time here. Absolutely delighted with the food and service here. I love that all the staffs wore white shirts and an apron. It made the staffs look so professional and smart. The fish and chips were delicious and the portions were great. The brownies and sticky toffee pudding were perfect. I will return for the burgers. They look absolutely delectable. Tacos portion were a little small. If you like your apply pie on the tart side, do go for it. I personally like sweet apple pies.

Our brunch experience at this restaurant was bustling, with a wait to get in due to the usual crowd. Once seated, the service was prompt, ensuring we didn't wait long for our orders. However, the atmosphere felt a bit overwhelming with the large number of people. Despite this, the dishes we tried, like the Irish breakfast and avocado toast, were tasty, although not cooked to perfection. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and the dishes are definitely worth a try if you're willing to overlook the bustling atmosphere.

Love this spot for brunch. Gorgeous food, great portions, lovely staff, and dog friendly... what more could you ask for? Would definitely recommend booking a table on the weekends though, as it can be busy.
Leigh Porter — Google review
Had a lovely experience for lunch, food was fresh and very tasty, staff really welcoming and although we’ve waited for the table the food arrived quickly and we were very satisfied! Only reason I would give a 4/5 is that there aren’t enough vegan options, I’d love to see a vegan Irish breakfast one day.
Sara Urasini — Google review
Good brunch, lovely staff, free parking on the weekends. The breaded asparagus gave a nice crunchy texture to the my meal. My preference of a poached egg is soft but not too runny. My eggs were perfect. We loved everything but the beans on my husbands breakfast. No flavor and not cooked all the way. Beans should be soft all the way through but other than that we loved everything.

Takeout Restaurant
Platform Pizza Bar in Bray is a popular restaurant that serves craft beers, pizzas, salads, and innovative dishes. The airy bare-bricked space with an open kitchen provides a pleasant dining atmosphere. This establishment has gained recognition for its delicious hand-rolled and freshly made pizzas, which have won various awards since its launch in 2013.
Very fine meal had here. Four of us came here. Two pizzas were bought and superfood salad and pulled chicken salad. Everybody enjoyed their order. We also had two of the local beers. Very good also. The palace was warm the service was friendly and efficient. Would recommend. Better photos next time.

Don’t go unless you book a table or are going on a weekday. Went to this place last Sunday with my partner, we usually sit outside, but this time there were no tables available there (only went here on weekdays before). We were seated inside, at this table which definitely never gets booked, as it is extremely uncomfortable, and is definitely just put there for making more profit. This table is right in front of the kitchen, so you sit facing all the cooks, and honestly it’s very noisy from all the cutlery clucking happening in the kitchen. The pizza oven is also right in front of your face and you can feel the hot air radiating from it each time they open it. My eye contacts were completely dried out after seating at that table due to that oven. The ventilation in the restaurant either doesn’t work or on the lowest setting, I felt actually dizzy there, and as a result couldn’t eat anything. The table is also surrounded with some kind of staff areas on both sides, so gives of the “seat next to the toilet on the plane” vibe. Would definitely never agree to sit inside in this restaurant ever again. The cocktails I had were good, and the food is great each time we visit. Feels like the business owners don’t really value their customers and just want to make as much profit as possible at the expense of the customers’ comfort.

Very nice comfy spot with a great selection of pizzas and trendy decor. I had the mussels starter - it was delicious - and the monkfish main. The monkfish was delicious but the fries were skinny and dry. Service was absolutely excellent until our server went on break - then service stopped completely and getting the bill was a struggle, as was paying. Disappointing end after a great start.

This pizza spot features a fantastic, rustic atmosphere. The wood-fired thin-crust pizza was not just delicious but also offered excellent vegetarian/vegan options. While the prices lean a bit higher, they're reasonable. Overall, a solid recommendation for anyone seeking a delightful pizza experience.

I recently dined at Plataform Pizza Bar in Bray, and it was a delightful experience. The pizza was not only delicious but also served promptly. The staff was incredibly friendly, accommodating us even without a reservation by finding a table for us. The restaurant's location makes it an ideal spot for a meal before or after exploring the Bray Head walk. Overall, a great combination of tasty food, welcoming service, and a convenient location. Highly recommended!

Smaller than expected, which is a good thing. Nice atmosphere, rustic. Staff were super nice and so was the manager Shane. Bathrooms are located through a wardrobe which was very Narnia. Most importantly the food was nice and tasty so no complaints here!

Was ordering a takeaway pizza so walked in after making my order online. The restaurant was extremely Buisness though kept clean. Ordered a satay boneless chicken wins and roast chicken pizza on a gluten-free base. Have to say wasn't impressed for a first take out as it tasted burnt but classing down as busy. Will give it another try one day

Original and surprising lasagna that comes with a round bread on top. Delicious lasagna, definitely recommend! The salad on the side is also good.

I emailed this feedback to the restaurant but no one replied after a month so here you go: We had a nice meal and service was prompt. However, at the end of our meal, I ordered two last drinks and asked for the bill. The drinks were delivered and as the waitress was taking our dishes away, she dropped a glass which shattered all over our table and spilled on our legs and feet. This is fine, mistakes happen. It's what happened next that was very disappointing. The waitress apologized and removed some of the larger pieces of glass and left for 5 minutes, I assumed to get a brush and pan. She returned with our bill, which I paid, and then she went back to serving the other guests like nothing had happened. We were left with shattered glass all over our table and feet for 20mins while we finished our drinks. She did not ask if we were ok, if we needed napkins etc. Left a sour taste. Not just from the Mango Margarita ;)
Shane Mulhall — Google review
I recommend the Lasagna!!! Pizza, pasta and potato. The perfect trip! This is my third visit in 2 years and is still as delicious as the first. Thanks for being consistent guys! Things to improve on: - One of the cocktails were a bit expensive considering the amount of ice to liquid.
Joel Woodman — Google review
I ordered the goat's cheese pizza, but since I'm vegetarian i asked whether i could replace the Pancetta (very expensive italian meat) with anything else. They offered some mozzarella, which was good. Only after leaving i noticed that i was charged 1.80€ extra for the mozzarella. I seriously think it's not okay to charge a vegetarian for some expensive italian meat that they never received, and on top charge them then for the replacement they have been asking for. How is this in any way a good service of a business

I was very excited to try the Hungry Monk for dinner and it did not disappoint. Even from the moment of booking I got a good vibe from the place. The staff member who answered was very friendly and humorous. The decor really makes the whole dining experience that extra bit special. The drinks were ordered were excellent. The beef and lamb burgers were delicious, so filling glad we didn't order a starter. But of course we had to order the BAILEY'S irish cream crème brulee. It was the best I have had!! This restaurant should be on the top of your list when visiting Greystones.

The Pigeon House in Delgany, Ireland, is a highly regarded restaurant that serves a variety of delicious meals throughout the day. With its Michelin Guide recommendation and affordable prices, it offers a unique dining experience. The menu features both breakfast and brunch options as well as lunch and dinner offerings. The wood-fired pizza oven caters to those with lighter appetites, while the diverse Irish cuisine keeps locals coming back for more.
Breakfast is perfect here. We’ve tried different things each time we’ve been and can’t fault anything with the food. Gorgeous food, great coffee and tea, great atmosphere. My only feedback would be, one week we wanted to try the grill / fry’s and they don’t offer a half portion like most places so it was an a bit pricier than we would have liked as we were only limited to the full grill. Anyways great place highly recommended.

Nice and cosy location in Delgany, just a few minutes drive from Greystones. I was there on a Saturday for brunch. The location is contemporary and charming, with a lovely skylight in the middle of the main dining area. At first I wasn’t much inspired by the menu and thought it was a bit limited. The service was prompt and staff friendly; the food met my expectations and the pancake with Nutella, strawberries and maple syrup were delicious. The kids cheese burger was good, served on a gently toasted bun and with fries - maybe a bit too dry but that’s personal taste. The adult burger was juicy thanks to pickles and burger sauce. The bun was tosta ed as for the kids and that gave an extra point to the overall taste. The presentation made the burger and fries look like a small portion which wasn’t in the end!

No doubt, excellent restaurant! You should try Hummus Egg or Duck & Waffle (as seen in pictures). They have a nice bar and cocktails to try. I have gone with Bellini with my breakfast. There is also a parking space. Suitable for singles, couples, big groups or families. Sundays could be a bit noisy.

Friendly vibe with lovely decor. Menu is well thought out and imaginative, but loses a little bit on execution. Very family friendly and staff are lovely. Went for supper on a Friday evening, got ribs, burger and croquettes. Sloppy Joe burger was a novel treat , ribs were well seasons , but over done. Croquettes were terrible, no creamy texture and moorish flavours. Service was prompt at the start, but got my order wrong ( asked for short rib , but Chinese ribs arrived) and no one checked in. Took longer then expected to clear, but maybe they were short handed? Might give it a shot for Sunday dinner or Lunch, but not worth the trip for Dinner.

WE IGNORED ALL THE BAD REVIEWS & YOU SHOULD TOO! Today was our second gathering (7 people) at the Pigeon House & we honestly don't know what other people are complaining about! - The food was absolutely delicious & was served quickly (despite the 24th of December craziness). - The staff went above and beyond in surprising our Birthday girl with a Happy Birthday song and a candle topped dessert. - Drinks were gorgeous. Atmosphere was beautiful. - The place itself is stunning too. Stylish, roomy & well spaced out. Genuine review. I honestly hope that you will take my family's experience into consideration & ignore all the bad reviews (that aren't deserved in our opinion). Merry Christmas to all staff 🎄🎁 and thank you all again for everything 🤗

We are regulars for the brunch here which we enjoy. The menu includes classics alongside some more interesting options and decent coffee. Service is usually good, you don’t have to wait too long for your food. One big downside though, are prices which are already rather high, but it’s the sides that really drive it up, like €4.95 for a bit of avocado.

Really wonderful meal here today. Party of 6 including a 4 year old. The staff were terrific. The food was delicious, good selection on the menu and great quality ingredients. We will definitely be back. Only sorry we didn't discover this place sooner.

Pigeon House offers an okay dining experience. The ambiance is pleasant, and the menu has a variety of options. However, it would be greatly improved if they included more dietary-restricted choices for vegans and vegetarians. While the staff is friendly, addressing this gap in the menu would make it a more inclusive and appealing choice for a broader range of diners within the local community.

Great find after a long trekking session In Wicklow. We took two shakshouka’s and it was delish - everything on the menu was tempting, I can’t wait to go for round 2! Highly recommend it!

We rang ahead to make sure we got a table. When we arrived it looked fairly full and everyone was eating. Always a good sign. We we seated and given menus. I have to say that I was pleased to see plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans with a very flexible menu and a really lovely girl who was taking our order. We were able to alter the meals to suit our taste. When the food came it was presented really beautifully on the plate and it was a really generous size also. The chef managed to get so many wonderful flavours onto the plate. My tastebuds were literally dancing in my mouth. We Will be back very soon. The nicest food I have been served in such a long time. Raging I didn't get our servers name because she was so nice also. I'd have liked to give her a mention too. Not too expensive either.

Really cool setting and decor, great music, friendly staff and atmosphere. The menu was interesting, great quality food and tasty. The beef brisket and pancakes were top matks. And the lemonade and coffee were yum too. Would have loved to try the desserts, we'll be back!

Great brunch menu, loved the atmosphere in the restaurant. Really enjoyed the breakfast muffin that was recommended by a friend, the flatbreads looked delicious too.

We turned up without a booking for Sunday lunch and they fitted us in. The staff were lovely and the food was excellent - they went above and beyond to accommodate us as one person is dairy intolerant. It’s a really nice and friendly venue.

I've been here twice after visiting for the first time with my cousin and it was really good on both occasions. The atmosphere is very relaxed which is great for diners and unlike other restaurants, each item on the menu is delicious and you can taste it has been made fresh to order. It has become one of my favourite places to eat and I'll definitely be making more visits once I'm more local to the area. Really friendly service as well!
