Restaurant
Lochinver Larder is a charming riverfront restaurant and takeaway known for its delectable meat, sweet, and fish pies as well as sandwiches. Established in 1986 by Ian and Debra Stewart, it initially started as a deli offering takeaway sandwiches before expanding into a B&B and eventually a restaurant with picturesque views of the loch.
Wow. The pies look great just on their own let alone once you break inside. The filling is full, rich and delicious. The steak and ale pie was a favourite with proper ale flavors coming through. When the weather is nice and you can eat in their garden definitely get the full pie meal.

Good steak & ale pie. Popular so you may have to wait for your food. Nice beer garden to sit in. Cash only currently, so make sure you have enough.
Crissy Wil — Google review
This place is a "must" if you are passing by. We were here in off season and managed to get ourselves seated, but the place gets extremely busy in summer. Great and unique pies, properly made with generous fillings and there savory and sweet versions available If pies are not your thing (you must be totally mad, but I don't judge) then they have it covered with some specials on the board. They had burgers and some other simple but tasty stuff. All in all, simply a very good and honest food and lovely ladies working there.
Anton Frolov — Google review
Very tasty pie, they had a great selection to suit every dietary requirement. Nice size, nice and hot but a little pricey, I would give five stars if it had been a little less expensive as the pie was faultless.
Jonathan Collins — Google review
The best pies in Scotland! Huge range including haggis and black pudding. Sweet pies too. They also do other dishes BUT you should have the pies! Take out only but they have two great outdoor areas to eat in - both have good views!
John Donovan — Google review
Omg! I think I had the best pie I've ever tasted! Venison and cranberry, absolutely delicious. I'll definitely be calling again to sample the other pies. Scrumptious!
Peter Lowe — Google review
Pies were absolutely amazing, felt the staff could have been friendlier and it is take out only but overall we loved the variety of pies, they are massive would recommend one per person and they are fully stuffed. 😋
Leah Stephen — Google review
Some of the best pies we've ever had. Venison & cranberry Pork, apple & cider 1000% recommend!! About £6 a pie but well worth every penny
Lauren — Google review
Lovely pies, would go back again if ever in the area. I had steak and ale pie with gravy and we shared a apple and black current pie with custard and they were both very scrumptious.
Dave Simpson — Google review
Well worth the visit on route to Achmelvich Bay. Tried a steak pie and the chicken to, shared between two of us of course. Can see why they were busy, the pies are so fine. The views not bad either.
Dean Meller — Google review
Such a delicious pie, and the view outside is fantastic. Only downside was the rather long waiting time, something that should be taken into consideration if you are in a rush.
Sunny Simantov — Google review
The Lochinver Larder provide (IMHO) the best pies I have ever tasted. The pastry is just delicious and the quality of the contents sets it apart from other pies. It can be very busy at peak times and I would recommend order in advance and collect your food at a specified time. The staff are very helpful and do the larder justice. Keep up the great work.
Ahairy Haggis — Google review
This place is awesome! The staff is very friendly and quite attentive when it comes to food allergies. They will heat the pie to perfection, and it is served in a small cardboard box. The pastry melted in my mouth and the flavors of the filling were delectable. I stopped in only because I had read that this place was special, and I was certainly not disappointed. The entire experience was memorable. I highly recommend stopping in and enjoying a special treat. It is located in a charming village with a lovely view from the tables outside.
Barbara Geisler — Google review
Everywhere in Lochinver was closed and we were wondering where we could get breakfast, saw Lochinver Larder was open on the way out of the village and glad we stopped. Bacon baguettes were yummy and we bought pies to take away for tea. Later heating them........ as per instructions, what a delight, best pies we've ever eaten (apart from my daughters .... of course 😉) Will definitely be ordering by post.
Beverley Price — Google review
My pals and I visited and I must say the Pies are awesome, we went and sat on the rocks by the water and the peace was immaculate. We definitely got our moneys worth and with all the recent travelling, we needed this! Whenever we are back we will be visiting again for sure <3
Chelsea Burke — Google review
Fabulous! Probanly the best pies in the world! Plus friendly staff and excellent views. Definitely worth the trip. I had the cauliflower, broccoli and cheese pie, my husband had the savoury lamb pie. Both delicious We also got a couple of apple pies to take away with us just because we had to !
Liz Jones — Google review
Amazing pies in all varieties. We came for lunch and had a fairly short wait time despite being quite busy. If you order a coffee you can enjoy it while waiting - and it was surprisingly good. They don’t allow eating inside but have 10 or so tables outside right next to the restaurant. If you visit Lochinver, also consider driving to the beaches up north through the small windy road - great scenery!

Kylesku Hotel is a traditional coaching inn offering polished rooms, some with stunning loch views, and a seafood restaurant. Guests have raved about the excellent early evening meals with perfect views down the loch. The restaurant offers great food served promptly, such as monkfish curry and brisket burgers. The staff are described as attentive and helpful, creating a perfect dining experience. Despite being in the off-season, the staff were accommodating and provided an enjoyable atmosphere.
Lovely little restaraunt which we came across in our hunt for food. Being the off season, most places were closed but staff here were more than happy to have us and were a good laugh throughout. We had the best seat in the house, looking out onto the loch. Neither of us are huge fish eaters but the lobster mac & cheese and salmon pasta were extremely nice. Finished off with a hot toddy. It was nice enough that we returned a few days later for a couple of cocktails (properly done & very nice)
Luke Herbert — Google review
We had an excellent early evening meal, arriving with enough daylight to enjoy the perfect view down the loch. Restaurant quiet when we arrived but with a nice hum by the time we finished. Great food, served promptly: we had monkfish curry and brisket burgers. No problem to share a pudding. Plenty of food needed after a long day’s walking. They didn’t disappoint. £40 a head felt very reasonable. Staff nicely multi-national and great with children, we noticed. Very attentive and helpful. It was a perfect evening.
Simon Scott — Google review
Really looking forward to two nights of luxury on our NC500 trip. Looked amazing on the website, it was twice the price of everywhere else we booked and sadly not as good. The room looked huge but was very small and could do with some TLC. The food was overpriced and breaded fish was all bread and little fish. Nearly £800 for two nights need I say more. Staff were lovely
Judy Claridge — Google review
Great location. Food; It was ‘average’. Service was good but food was boring and bland. Incredibly over priced for what it was. We had mussel's, tempura prawns, fish/chips and a large mussels. Didn’t waste time with dessert. Certainly would not recommend or eat there again. Rooms; Tired. Plenty of scuffs on walls/paintwork etc. Towels smelt funky and haven’t shaken the smell for most of the day. Shower dribbled inconsistent heat. Good luck if you are female with long hair. General dust/dirt. Hotel; Generally tired. It looks as though it has been left without regular maintenance or repairs. Terrace to the bar has broken umbrellas and 3 broken glass balustrade screens. Uneven and rotting decking. Dirty windows. Paint flaking from barge boards. Walkway ramp is littered with plant pots restricting access. Broken plant pots removed but a pile of soil with growth left on walkway. Never would I spend £280 on a room and £144 on a meal if I knew what I was in for. Central London can offer you more for less money.

Arrived early for dinner, made very welcome nothing a problem, most attentive Maitre D. Had superb view of the loch and food was so fresh and tasty. Well worth a visit, very popular and i can see why.
Peter Allen — Google review
4 of us visited this evening for dinner, a lovely location and a comfortable restaurant with very friendly staff who worked well as a team and made us feel welcome. Excellent drink selection and the 3 sets of sea food dishes were excellent. Unfortunately the vegetarian options were awful, expensive for what there was, and my main course was dreadful (I have no idea how to make shop bought gnocchi such an unpleasant texture), had I been dining alone I would have left my food unfinished and not paid, but as I was with company who were loving the food I didn't want to make a scene. I would 100% recommend this place if you enjoy seafood.
grayson jones — Google review
What an amazing setting! Food was stunning, we had scallops, oysters and mussels. Couldn’t recommend stopping here more! Do it! (We had been a bit put off by the 1 star reviews recently, but we are so glad we went, so so worth it. I think we need to accept the need to pay higher prices for quality food bought locally and made well)
Harriet Riggs — Google review
Spectacular views and windows all round to get the best of the views. Very friendly and welcoming service and the food was fantastic. Scallops a real highlight, as was the sea bass and steak. We ate here twice as we so enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Seafood soup was the only less impressive item on the menu.

We had an absolutely fabulous stay at Kylesku Hotel. The beds were big and super comfy; the shower was hot and powerful; the rooms were very clean and felt very quiet throughout the hotel; the breakfast was absolutely delicious, made even better by the fabulous view from the tables (and the staff remembered to bring us oat milk every morning without us needing to ask); we ate at the hotel one night - although it was expensive, it was so tasty! We can’t wait to go back!!
Alice T — Google review
Fabulous place with an amazing menu of freshly caught and beautifully fresh sea food. Friendly staff, good service and beautiful view. Very dog-friendly too.
Jane S — Google review
Nice hotel in a lovely little port. The room was nice and cosy but the walls and ceiling paper thin so we could hear everything the neighbors were saying or doing. One the good side, the staff was extremely friendly and the food (dinner and breakfast) was excellent and plentiful. A good address overall
Cedric Schem — Google review
We had eaten here a year ago and loved it but this time was a massive disappointment. The food was poor verging on inedible, portions were small and prices exorbitant. The fish and chips were terrible, the scallops were stringy and badly cooked and the very thing was cold. We spoke to the manager who was very apologetic and explained that they cannot recruit chefs and gave us a free bottle. Despite this, we were left with a bad taste from the excess fat and poor ingredients - no amount of apology can make up for such a bad meal - save you money and cancel your booking
Andrew Klein — Google review
An amazing restaurant venue with fantastic views. Food was lovely and fresh seafood. Service was so friendly, with an informal and relaxed atmosphere.
Cherry Mundell — Google review
Had 6 scallops, 6 oysters, and 6 langoustines and the food was nice and the atmosphere is pleasant. Not a wheelchair friendly place as there are steps everywhere. The Kylesku Hotel is massively overpriced and the quality of food does not warrant the cost. I would use smaller local businesses in the future rather than a chain hotel
Ahairy Haggis — Google review
The Kylesku Hotel is charging way above the quality of food provided. We ate here twice over the weekend as we had been booked in by our tour company. The staff were very friendly and helpful, however the food was very over priced - we had the scallops the first night at twice the price we paid at a cafe at John O'Groats and they were nowhere near as nice. The next time. we had battered and breaded haddock - the fish itself was lovely, however the batter was thick and overcooked as was the breadcrumbs and the chips were hollow. We should have complained at the time but the staff were so nice we didn't like to. We won't be back.
Matthew Gough — Google review
It's okay. The setting is beautiful, right on the edge of the loch - that's the best bit really (Don't need to stay at the hotel for that though, and to be fair the entire north of Scotland is beautiful). The rooms aren't great - it feels like this is a place that wants to extract as much money from the NC500 boom as possible, and doesn't care about the quality too much. My attic room had a view of a roof, and a heating oil tank. Would have preferred a bit more for £190 The food is alright. Fairly expensive, but alright. I stayed in a BnB up the road in lochinver the next night and much preferred that
tom keyte — Google review
I just stopped for a snack and something to drink. The service was very nice and the view from the restaurant is scenic. Parking spots were plenty available.
Martin Fleuter — Google review
I had an amazing 4 nights at this hotel, staff made me feel like part of the family, superb seafood, great beer and a cosy bar. Would definitely stay again.
Alun Fasty — Google review
We walked down to the hotel from the carpark and as it was open thought that it would be rude not to call in for a beverage. Peter the bar manager was very welcoming and friendly the bar was warm as the log burner was lit we will definitely call back again next year.
Barry Wilson — Google review
We came in for lunch. It’s very expensive but the quality is very good. 3 scallops for £25. Primarily a seafood place, there are some other options on the menu but it’s fairly limited. The setting is obviously amazing with fantastic views. The coffee is good but it should be for the price. Notable as it’s hard to find a nice flat white around these parts!
Dougal Matthews — Google review
Lovely location, lunch was average but left a bad taste in the mouth. Lobster is advertised at market rates, when the bill came they had charged £100 for what can be described as a medium lobster! Service was slow, it does feel as though they have taken a beautiful location and use it as the opportunity to extract as much money as possible from guests.

Peet's Restaurant is a popular dining spot in the Lochinver region near Achmelvich Beach, Scotland. The restaurant offers an amazing menu with a focus on fresh seafood, including a fish of the day option. Visitors rave about the incredibly fresh and delicious scallops, mussels, chicken, haggis, and langoustine dishes. The staff is known for being friendly and helpful with local recommendations. Guests appreciate the high quality of food and service at reasonable prices.
Fantastic place to eat, brilliant customer service, friendly and welcoming. Food is absolutely outstanding and great value for money!! 5 star on every level.

Nice eatery with a good selection on the menu. Meals are generous and well presented. Staff are most obliging and efficient. Worth a stop if you are passing through Lochinver. For those with a wheat intolerance the separate gluten free menu is a bonus.

Excellent service with tasty local food. Staff were very friendly and the food was freshly cooked and to a good standard. Make sure you book in advance as it can be busy. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re visiting.
David Cameron — Google review
We drove to Peet’s Restaurant on a sunny day to savour their Seafood Chowder in the evening. But unfortunately that was not on the menu. Instead we got the Special for the Day and the Classic Fish and Chips and I was not at all disappointed. The flavours of Special Fish was so unique and refreshing. The Fish and Chips even though a classic in the UK, was very up to the mark, I was craving for it even the next day. It’s a warm sitting atmosphere where you can enjoy with your friends and family. The three ladies at the front of the house provided excellent service. It’s the only place open on a Tuesday evening in that town currently. So make sure you pre-book the table.

Me and the wife had a meal here 2 nights ago and it was the best seafood I've ever had. I had the scallops and the wife had the musscels to start and both were incredible, you could tell they were fresh from the sea which is literally out the front of the restaurant. I had the chicken and haggis for main and the wife had the langoustine and both were perfectly cooked and so tasty. Staff were very friendly and even gave us tome ideas of places to visit as we are driving the NC500. Would definitely come again and urge anyone else to book a meal here

We booked in for dinner on a Friday evening last week 26 4 24. After some read some great reviews and recommendations I can only say it wasn't a very good experience starters came out in reasonable time and we're good then we had to wait nearly 2 hours for the main course and when it did finally arrive it looked like we just slapped on the plate the vegetables were unediable because they were rock hard it looked like it ran out of stuff no finesse no real apology from anybody senior in the restaurant don't think that I be back .

Absolutely amazing! Fresh, fresh seafood; great service and value for money for such a high standard. Definitely highly recommended. Something for every palate & budget too. We went for our anniversary with another couple, everyone loved their meals. We wished we'd gone the day before too now! Restaurant was busy but it wasn't overwhelming, a lot of restaurants should follow their lead wrt noise dampening. Good quality wines at reasonable (for a restaurant) prices.

Lovely Welcoming staff, with Mein Host mingling with the diners. Beautifully prepared plentiful Dinner on Hot plates, something I love! Wide & varied Menu for all, including veggies and special diets. Selective Wine list but looks like Hand picked, Glasses or Bottles, whichever you prefer. Delighted to see Ruth mingling, unassumingly among the guests. Just a Perfect evening. Booking Recommended. 5 Stars isn't enough!👌 ❤️

The seafood is AMAZING. Great food and very welcoming service. It's quite busy too so I would recommend making a reservation in advance. Good value for money at around USD$40 per head for 2 people - We ordered langoustine, scallops, seafood platter, chowder (MUST TRY) and mackerel pate.

Bydand is a standout restaurant in Thurso, offering a simple yet diverse menu with well-presented and flavorful meals. While it may be on the pricier side, the dining experience is definitely worth it. The attentive service and exceptional food make it a top choice for visitors, with highlights such as smoked salmon, shredded beef, and delightful desserts.
An amazing meal with brilliant, friendly service and very reasonably priced. The only fault I can find with it is that it's 650 miles away from home!! Will definitely visit here again when we're back up.

Really talented cooking. Beautifully cooked and presented fish, and beef. Friendly, professional service. Great value for this standard of food and cooking. A really great find.
Miranda B — Google review
Had a great dinner for two here, a simple and compact menu with plenty to choose from. The meals are very well presented and have amazing flavours. It’s something different from your casual restaurant, that makes it stand out from others in Thurso. Although a bit on the expensive side, a definite recommendation to have your dinner here.

Great value for money, booked in advance. Every detail of the meal was great quality and cooked to perfection. The best meal I had on my motorcycle tour around the NC767 plus Skye

What a great little find. Top notch food and wine with a great couple running it. Really friendly place. Veg risotto starter was lovely but the highlight was the buttery tatties with beef. Beautiful. We will certainly be back.

Just wow! Pre-booked our table as only in Thurso one night & so glad we booked here. From the moment we arrived until we left the service & food was exceptional. Attentive, pleasant staff, not rushed, delicious variety of food to choose from, definitely worth a visit - thank you

Bydand Restaurant was absolutely wonderful. Both the starter and main was delicious and the service was excellent. I highly recommend this stop. My wife and I went for our honeymoon and they made us a special dessert plate. I would recommend the beef, it was the best I’ve had in Scotland.
Noah Hartzell — Google review
The place is elegant in its own way, with the right care about design and space. The waiters were always nice and kind. This usually is a good start. I also appreciated the "short menu" (long menus are usually a bad sign). The main problem was the food; the salmon was boiled and the presentation wasn't pleasant (sometimes less is more). The pasta was a complete disaster: wrong recipe, wrong kind of pasta and way overcooked. And on top of the pasta, some kind of salad, that is a multiple mistake; even if we try to ignore the fact that in Italy no one put in the same dish pasta and salad, the heat of the pasta partially cooks the vegetables, giving a bitter taste and losing texture. To complete, it was served in the wrong dish type (there is a technical reason why that dish shouldn't be used for that kind of pasta). The desserts were tasteless, and using too much sugar to cover it was even worse. I can see there is an effort to offer something different, and I can appreciate the "inspiration" to a higher level of restaurant, but you couldn't afford it if you don't manage the basis. About the price; if they managed to prepare those dishes properly, the price could be right, but with this current level of quality sounded just as pretentious. In this case I'm really sorry to give lower rates, because I see the commitment in doing something good, and I would like to reward it, but I can't ignore what we have been served.

Great wee place - one of our favourite restaurants in the area. Bydand is a small, family run business in Thurso and has deservedly won awards for the quality of their food which is exceptional. Brian prepares and presents everything himself to a very high standard and Angela and the girls provide first class, friendly and efficient service. There's always something a bit different on the menu every visit and we have never been disappointed on numerous visits. Brian will also go above and beyond to cater for any dietary requests. Bydand provide excellent value for the quality and quantity of menu options. Highly recommended.

Highly highly recommend this restaurant along the NC500 route. It looks small and average from the outside but don’t let that fool you, the food is spectacular. The service is slow as there was only one lady servicing the entire restaurant, but well worth it. Scallops were one of the best we’ve had in Scotland, the pulled beef was so soft and tender, again one of the best we’ve had in Scotland! Make sure to book in advance !

The Pier is a charming waterfront eatery with a relaxed atmosphere and hardworking staff. The menu offers a variety of dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Visitors rave about the deluxe hot chocolate with marshmallows and chocolate chips, as well as the generous portion of fries. The outdoor seating provides stunning views across Loch Shin, making it an ideal spot to enjoy a meal on a sunny day. Despite its popularity, the place maintains its appeal due to its exceptional food and welcoming ambiance.
Popped in by chance as just passing. Guys here plesent ,welcoming and clean I had the fish and chips, amazing. Light batter, fish taste fresh , chip n peas all good. Wife had fish cakes, she loved them. Great little place .

The crusted fish was delicious and well balanced. The blanched kale underneath was so yummy, having soaked up the creamy saffron sauce. The highland hot dog with haggis topping was great too. We were too full to have desserts but their cake selection looked lovely. Highly recommended!

What a wonderful little place. We were lucky enough to be sat outside as the weather was spectacular. We had great views across Loch Shin and were treated to an awesome dinner. I had a posh hot dog which was spectacular and loaded with mozzarella and chillies, my wife had the fishcakes whish looked spectacular. Good selection on the kids menus as well, although at the time we arrived a lot of the popular dishes had finished. To be expected though as this place is very popular. I would recommend booking well ahead of time especially at lunchtimes to avoid disappointment. The staff were super helpful and friendly and really did everything they could to make our experience a nice one. If you are travelling through the crossroads of the Highlands, make sure to stop there and have something to eat. It is well worth it.

Oh my, we should have had more appetite to eat here properly!! We just had some drinks and the fries, which were amazing and much bigger than we thought initially 😅 also the deluxe hot chocolate was supremely well done 🙌😍🤩 extremely delicious with the tiny marshmallows that melted in the hot chocolate and the chocolate chips as well - clearly one of my favourites in the past time. The food that we could see elsewhere on the tables also looked great. I would have loved to try the fish and chips 🤤

Fantastic food at a great place to stop after the long drive south from Tongue , we didnt venture outside as it was still April but it looks like a great place for outside dining by the shores of Loch Shin during the summer months . Lovely restaurant with very convenient opening hours especially if you had an early start and feel hungry before lunch. We came on a Saturday and they serve brunch but also the sandwiches and toasties from the lunch menu (full lunch menu from noon). The food is excellent quality and service was friendly and swift. The outdoor area is great for a sunny day but they do also have a covered outdoor area and are dog friendly. Thoroughly recommend this as a destination point for a drive through very pretty countryside.

What a gem of a place, waterfront position with a great informal atmosphere. Extremely hardworking staff - who were welcoming, friendly & attentive. The food was exceptional: fresh locally sourced ingredients; superbly presented, with a menu for a range of tastes and pockets. The fact that it was so full, on both occasions we visited, speaks for itself. Obviously a firm favourite with both locals and visitors & deservedly so. This place punches well above its weight!

The food, when it finally arrived, was excellent, though I had to ask for a plate as the oversized bowl my salad came in made it impossible to cut anything. We were, however, seated then promptly forgotten. I suspect someone forgot to put our order into the kitchen as we waited a very long time for our food, so much so that we were comped our drinks (four soft drinks - not a big sacrifice on their part).

Cracking wee stop after doing the short loop walk starting at the visitor centre. Lovely views across the Loch. We only had coffee & cake but oh my god. Genuinely the top 1% of cake I've ever had in my life. Like insanely good....Go get some....

Popped in without a reservation. We said we only wanted a bowl of soup. They offered us a table but said it was needed back for a certain time, for another booking. We took soup and chowder, and it was lovely. The desserts looked delicious, so we took them to go, and we were not disappointed. Lucy made a great job of getting the fudge cake into the takeout box. We will definitely book for our next visit.

Made an unplanned stop while passing. Very busy on a Sunday but were well accomodated by Jason. A very nice range of cafe and more restaurant style food. The venison dish was particularly good. Would definitely recommend.

This is a gem a true gem of a cafe / restaurant. The staff are superb. Well trained and knowledgeable. We loved our lunch at this delightful establishment. The food was simply outstanding and great value for money. We cannot recommend this place highly enough. Lairg is a delightful village made all the better with eating places like this.
