Nyali Beach

Mentioned on
Beach
Outdoor Activities
Nyali Beach is a well-liked destination for swimming, sunbathing, picnicking and relaxation. The beach features an ever-changing scenery with stretches of white sand and occasional seaweed coverage. The vibrant colors of the surroundings make it a feast for the eyes. Visitors can enjoy water activities in clean salty waters, and there are plenty of shallow pools even when the tide is out. It is important to use sea safe sunscreen while at Nyali Beach to protect oneself from harmful UV rays.
Love this beach as it changes so much…sometimes long stretches of white sand, sometimes covered in seaweed. Beautiful to look at, amazing colours, great to swim or paddle even when the tide is out as so many pools remain.
Gayle Woods — Google review
Very clean and beautiful atmosphere for a public beach! Lots of family friendly crowds and activities. There are many lifeguards for safety and the minimal pollution makes the beach a great cheap way to spend your day! There are also many food options as well as locals who can take you out on a boat for a reasonable price.
Liv?s Travels — Google review
The 💦 is really good and it is very peaceful inside... It feels like the time has stopped and the only thing you can feel is your whole self.... Its an amazing place for vacation, escape from daily town noise and to just relax and enjoy your time.
Beatrice Wanjohi — Google review
One of the most beautiful beaches I have seen. The water is so warm that I almost thought I was bath water. The palm trees, the camels and the sun...what more you want to forget everything arround you ? Not that crowdy like the famous beaches. I love that. At low tide you can walk on the sea. Attention, bathshoes would be an advantage, there are sea urchins. We were able to see and touch many animals, but someone looked after us. The tide starts again around midday, around 2 a.m
Be Ba — Google review
Beach was nice, relatively clean. The wind is a bit crazy so you get sand everywhere. You need a chair to avoid. Also the camel owners did this to one of their camels when it didn't want to sit down. The camel wanted to walk with the other one down the beach and the owner tied his legs and let it walk 300m down the beach and back again with its legs tied with the rope rubbing on his ankles. I wouldn't ride on one of these because of the treatment of the animals. They were scarred and branded too.
Lauren J — Google review
It's a clean beach, not highly populous and there are places you can leave your prized possession for safe custody, of course at a small manageable fee.

A great place for offshore football, meditating, vacation... There's just so much more

Beautiful beach. Less crowded compared to other beaches in the North coast. Best time to experience the beach is noon to around 3, before more people start streaking in. Definitely recommend checking the weather online beforehand. I recommend walking up or down the beach to find a cool spot. ***DON'T Forget your sunscreen

Wonderful beach experience, I got to try Kayaking and riding on a jet ski for the first time. Truly a memorable experience for novices.

A good group of friends, a good bottle of whiskey and a harman kardon boom box, you will be in for a treat, make sure you inquire about seat prices which go for ksh 50 per head, and some good fresh fish steamed to taste at ksh 400.. be mindful of beach boys and tours as they will will swindle you out of cash. Otherwise best beach relax from early morning to afternoon

Fort Jesus Museum

Heritage museum
Fort Jesus Museum is a 16th-century Portuguese coastal fort in Mombasa that has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its thick walls, frescoes, graffiti, inscriptions and embellishments showcase the area's history and culture. Visitors can explore the grounds and climb on the battlements. The museum contains Kenyan archaeological finds, making it an important cultural attraction. Overall, Fort Jesus Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into Mombasa's rich past.
Very serene place with a rich history. You need to pay a tour guide for you to get to understand the history. Special mention to Swaleh. He did a good job taking us round and very passionate about what he does. Visit this place when in Mombasa.
Joy Adhiambo — Google review
First and foremost, you'd better buy ticket in advance via e-citizen unless you have a M-pesa. It took me so long to log in and make the payment, although I insisted to do so cause the entrance fee doubled if you pay with cash. Tired of tour guides the day before, I didn't take the guided tour but it was fine. Nice place to understand the history of the city.
busysuzie in Seoul — Google review
The site is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There aren't particularly notable attractions, and the Promenade that offers a view of the sea was closed to the public. As a result, views of the sea can only be seen through small windows. Viewed from above, the structure can also resemble the human body, embodying the Renaissance ideals of balance and harmony. It is well-preserved and represents a symbolic presence in the history of fortification construction.
Daisuke Sato — Google review
A.M.A.Z.I.N.G Attended the Sounds & Light Show on a Sunday evening. A well narrated history/timeline of the fort, as you watch an Animated 3D illustration. Then fireworks to celebrate at the end. Also, touring the Fort at night is pretty interesting, you will appreciate the false colour created by lots of red lighting. Exploring deep into the buildings is also very adrenaline inducing.
Fridah Mwangi — Google review
Very rich history and really well kept. One of the most interesting forts I’ve been to and a great starting point for a tour of the old town. Tip: Get a tour guide. Ask for Dogo (aka Ahmed) he is really unassuming but will surprise you with his knowledge of history, geography, and some current affairs for good measure.
Jesse Twum-Boafo — Google review
Great to learn the history of the area back to the 1600's. We went in the morning, which was perfect because there weren't many people, so lots of perfect opportunities for many pictures. I had a guide/friend with me, however another guide did try to say we needed to hire him; I spoke up and told him several times it was not necessary for me to have two guides, and I'm more than capable of reading the signs. I loved being able to walk around at my place and explore the buildings and grounds. You can definitely hire the guard if you'd like.
Brenda Woodman — Google review
Beautiful iconic world protected heritage reflecting the passage of Portuguese through Mombasa. The external area is also amazing but needs a great cleaning around it, the potential is there, however, far from the full reach.
MARIO MOREIRA — Google review
I had an amazing tour at the Forte Jesus by a guy named Fanju. He was very well aware of that entire forte history off head, very friendly guy and spent more hours than the agreed time for the tour without asking for extra money. I enjoyed the reach history of forte Jesus & won’t mind doing it again.
Juliana Siapai — Google review
Great place with so much history of the past, very informative and a nice place to take the kids for a day out, there are paid guides outside but there are several free guides inside. Well worth a visit.
Dan M — Google review
Quite a bit has changed since I was last here... But still worth the visit and a trip down memory lane. First off, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Fiona was very patient at the ticketing counter even though I was giving her a hard time by not understanding the ticketing prices. 5-Stars for her. She's a keeper. When I found the prices for the local guides steep, she suggested to me that I get a student tour guide from inside the fort and just give him something as an appreciation for his services. I took on that offer and for Maxwell as a guide. He was very informative and very patient with us giving us enough time to explore and take pics and ask him a plethora of questions (definitely get a student guide... Highly recommend Maxwell). Enjoyed it amply and recommend a visit to the fort for anyone coming to Mombasa, young and old. Tour takes about 1-1.5 hours. Go during the day time. No crowd.
Mazahir Bandali — Google review
This place has a historical value. The structure resembles the body of Christ thus it's named after Him. Here with all other historic things one can see the skeleton of a whale.
Sucheta Mitra — Google review
Special place with an immense amount of history. We had a great guide that told us all about the history and gave us a tour through the old town of Mombasa. Would absolutely recommend this for tourists who are interested in history and culture.
Luckr — Google review
The place is rich in Kenya's history during the pre-colonial time and when the early visitors from Europe,Asia and Arabic Kingdoms visited kenya during the indian ocean trade...entrance fee is affordable and guides are readily available to educate you
Bryan Ochieng — Google review
This place is not bad to spend a couple hours. It gives a lot of info about the past Portuguese and Arab colonialism with many items on display and the fort itself is very well preserved and not easy to see something like this in Kenya as this kind of architecture is not common there. I don't give it five stars only because AGAIN like in many other places here there are sharks by the entrance that WILL try to scam you. They first tried to bring us to another ticket office to cut the waiting (don't fall for it it's not real they'll just take your money!) And after they tried to give us a tour guide that was charging per person more than what I paid as a foreigner for the entrance ticket which is outrageous (don't fall for this too there's really no need for a guide as everything is clearly explained) also clearly tell them to leave you alone because they'll follow you and guide you around and after they'll expect you to pay them, so firmly send them away or expect to pay a hefty fee at the end.
Vladimiro Stivali — Google review
It's the best and first recommended place to visit in coast... Good history and affordable to enter and vidit.visit.. Good ambiance .. They have done shops which sell some good stuff for decos Any history lover should visit this place
edwin njoroge (edu de dancer) — Google review
It takes already 15 minutes to become a ticket at the entrance. Very complicated. It is maybe a historical place and a nice view over the sea. But in my eyes a bit over hyped. Price for tourist 1250 ksh and for locals just 400 ksh.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Pembe Za Ndovu landmark, also known as the Mombasa Tusks, is a popular tourist attraction located on Moi Avenue in Mombasa. These aluminum tusks were built in honor of Princess Margaret's visit to the city and have become a symbol of Mombasa. Visitors often take photos here to commemorate their trip while small stores nearby sell souvenirs and other items. Although the tusks are worth seeing, they do require a fresh coat of paint.
I loved the place. The traffic was well managed. The garden on the other side was clean and green.
Jose Mulandi — Google review
You haven't been to Mombasa if you don't pay the Tusks a visit. This is one of the symbols of Mombasa and it is one of the most photographed sites in the city. Would definitely recommend one to visit them. Photography around the Tusks is absolutely free. There are usually photographers around who charge to capture and print the images at an affordable rate. Erected in 1952 using canvas stretched over a wooden frame then later on in 1956 modified into Aluminum so as to endure the weather conditions. They were further refurbished in 2017. They are painted white to give them an ivory look. They also coincidentally form the letter, "M" which stands for Mombasa:). They were erected along Moi Avenue, formerly known as Kilindini road since Princess Margaret was expected to pass through the road from the port. She was on a 5 week tour of East Africa & Mauritius which started with Mombasa. With time, the Tusks have embodied the function of commemorating the coming of Queen Elizabeth to Kenya since she became queen while in Kenya.

If you want to appreciate this visit invest in a tour guide. It makes a whole difference. Also promote the Roka team who sell stuff made out of recycled banners. Had a great time learning about the history of Fort Jesus.

How will you know you are in Mombasa without visiting the famous elephant tasks!!! I didn't know why & till I was there & it was such an amazing site. I find it creepy standing in the CBD to take pictures but at this spot no one is even minding your business & you can have as many pictures as you want. It was a beautiful thing to experience. Fun fact it's located in the Island part of Mombasa.
CLAIRÉ.A. MURUNGA — Google review
I guess you cannot go to Mombasa without seeing this!! But don’t expect to spend hours here. Tusks could do with a coat of paint.
Thomas Meyer — Google review
Situated downtown. This sight is truly amazing to see after our visit to Tsavo, where the main attraction is elephants. Mombasa was the seaport where all the ivory was exported from to the rest of the world. However, it is now not legal to process ivory in any form. Apparently these tusks were erected not for the ivory trade but for a visit from the British Royal family. Worth a walk down this main street to see these.
Javed Khan — Google review
This is a lush, green space in Mombasa. There are thousands of bats which is both creepy and fascinating. Lovely place for a walk or chat with a friend.
Lois “Lo” S — Google review
Pembe Za Ndovu, the iconic man-made elephant tusks standing proudly along Moi Avenue in Mombasa, is a marvel deserving of its five-star rating. These majestic tusks, symbolizing the city's rich cultural heritage, captivate the eyes of both locals and tourists alike. The meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail are awe-inspiring, creating a picturesque gateway to Mombasa's heart. As cars gracefully pass beneath these tusks on both lanes, a sense of grandeur and history envelops the atmosphere. Beyond being architectural marvels, they serve as a testament to the city's elegance and charm. Pembe Za Ndovu stands as an enduring symbol, welcoming visitors with open arms, making it a must-see destination and a true five-star wonder.
Geoffrey Musyoki — Google review
The Mombasa Tusks are a must see on your visit to Mombasa. Strategically located on Moi Avenue, it has become a signature of Mombasa. You will find tourists taking pictures here to signify their visit to Mombasa. There are small stores around the area where you can buy souvenirs and other petty items. Remember to stop by and take a photo while driving through. Your Mombasa experience might not be complete without a famous photo at the Mombasa Tusks😁.

Pembe Za Ndovu (Elephant Tusks) tourism spot is a must-visit destination in Mombasa. The tusks themselves are a famous landmark in the city, and the tourist spot provides a great photo opportunity. The surrounding area is also lively and bustling, with plenty of street vendors selling souvenirs and local crafts. Overall, Pembe Za Ndovu Tourist spot with the Tusks is a great place to visit for a quick photo stop and a taste of the local culture.
Oscar King — Google review
Take a walk to explore the city. To get the best photo you'll need to cross the street and stand in the middle walkway. This is free and you can go anytime. Across the street is a nice park to walk through and get some shade and take a rest, if needed. There are so many bats flying and hanging from the trees.
Brenda Woodman — Google review
this place is very attractive. actually all Mombasa first time visitors this is a site you wouldn't miss to take symbolic. They are giant aluminium tusks along Moi Avenue, were built to commemorate a visit by Queen Elizabeth and marks the entrance to the heart of the city. Great tusks.

Everyone we have dealt with at Roofing Guy Downers Grove has been courteous, polite, well-informed, engaged, and professional. The installation of our sliding glass doors required some improvisation to adapt the opening size to the doors. James and his crew were undaunted and made the adjustments with no trouble. We could not have asked for a better experience.

One of the iconic and a landmark of Mombasa Town. The adventure of looking for this place is such an amazing and incredible thing.

Iconic!! The 'official' photographers were very open to help us out with our own cameras, suggesting poses that would best capture these iconic horns. We enjoyed the photo shoot 🤩
HephZibah M. — Google review
Definitely a place to go see. A real landmark for the city. 5 stars for that. Congrats for keeping the tusks up and running. Hope they can fix the rust on them. I noticed the tourists stop there a lot and go into Uhuru Gardens to see the bats. Trouble is the gardens are quite unkept and overgrown, hence only 2 stars. If the gardens were top notch, it would give a good report and heighten the appreciation of this great city. I see efforts have been made by those responsible which is commendable.

Sharing a glimpse of the iconic mapembe za ndovu (elephant tusks) in Mombasa, Kenya! These tusks hold historical significance, once marking the vibrant trade routes of the city. However, it's crucial to acknowledge that the ivory trade, which once thrived here, is now rightfully banned globally to protect these magnificent animals. Let's cherish these tusks as a symbol of Mombasa's rich cultural heritage and advocate for elephant conservation. Join the movement to protect wildlife and support responsible tourism. There are many crocodiles to see in multiple pits. They also have a few snakes. Don't expect much action here as the crocs rarely move. The guide will just explain what you are viewing. You have a better chance of some excitement if you can go when they are feeding the crocs.

Everyone is so rude and not very accommodating & feeding the crocodiles once a week seems like a stretch and they need to be inspected. the building looks like it’s not being maintained at all! The receptionist and at the entrance the ladies are not very accommodating & very rude especially the lady with the blue tshirt. Work on getting staff who are accommodating very crucial for a touristic site (On 22nd of sept 2023 6:15 pm)

This is a home of crocodiles, they feel so chilled whether as a bask, float even a loaner in that case. Not forgetting to mention how new reptile groups are coming into the picture next month. The experience was so great so was our tour guide 😌. We had a taste of crocodile 🐊 meat & I must say it's yummy & tender. Amazing place, though the management could do a lot better in terms of maintaining the place, especially the snake park. A few tips if your planning to visit : 1. They feed the crocodiles at 5pm everyday 2. They feed the largest crocodile ( big dady ) at 5pm on Fridays.

The restaurant features a set menu with influences from Pakistani, Indian, and Arabic cuisines, including dishes like chicken tikka, kebabs, and grilled seafood platters. I loved this place. We visited as a group of 11, and the food was delicious. The service was excellent, the ambience was heavenly, and the view was beautiful! The fish they made is heavenly! Very tasty! A must when you are in Mombasa! You won't be disappointed!

It was an amazing experience and I would definitely revisit it. The food was Amazing, Sea view was spectacular as you dine. The staff is friendly. The prices are fairly affordable...I would recommend this place for lunch or evening coffee as you get to see the light shows on the opposite side...Not forgetting the walk through the old town.

I love Forodhani but, I wish they did more on their interiors i.e the chairs particularly. I believe they can do so much to improve the whole situation. They have great views but the seats do not compliment that. If you're looking for nice interiors for gorgeous Instagram shots, I'm afraid this might not be an ideal place. However, if you want great food and views, this is the place! Their food is good and I always go for their chicken tikka and garlic naan which is just amazing. On the fish (samaki wa kupaka) though, be sure to ask which fish it is-taffi is great whilst kolekole is usually bony and might not be a pleasant experience for you. On waiting time, please don't go when in a hurry, it takes some time i.e 30-40 minutes but it could be shorter too. You can always make reservations though. All in all, it's a great place and so conveniently located in Old town,Mombasa where you can easily pop in when in need of a great meal. Enjoy!

A nice restaurant where you can eat after a Mombassa tour (or when you take a break). They have nice local food and also others (Europe etc). The view is just wonderful I think it’s not expensive as well and the waitresses/waiters are very nice. Clean restrooms as well.

The most striking thing about this restaurant is how ocean front it is!! The place is like a hidden gem tucked right inside the narrow streets of mombasa old town. You’d probably miss it if you were just wandering about. As soon as you enter the narrow corridor that is the main entrance of the hotel, the ocean is right there!!!! The staff are great and super patient, the prices are very very affordable.. I would totally recommend this place If you’re on a budget. The sunsets here are to die for. Go here to catch the golden hour! Only thing I felt like would need improvement is the overall maintenance of the place... but if you don’t mind that, I bet you’ll really love to watch the sunset here!

A great restaurant right on the waters edge. Three floors with plenty of seating space having wide views of the ocean. The food is plentiful and delicious. A must visit. The entrance is tucked away and a bit difficult to find. Just ask around, locals are very friendly and will guide you.

Gave it 5 stars because I've heard a lot about this place and I wasn't disappointed. It was my first time visiting. Our lovely server Hamisi took care of us but I wasn't able to tip him because he was too busy and we were running late! I'll be back for sure! Great food and ambience. Clean washrooms. However, I'd advise the management to fix the railing or switch to metal because some nails are loose and it could potentially be dangerous...overall great lunch! Will definitely be back for dinner 🥗

Amazing view, breeze. Food is good. Service is okay, they are doing their best. Worse during rush hour, lunch time, one can wait for more than 15min. The rush slows down after 3pm. I think the best time to go is when the sun is setting, beautiful end to the day.

The white sands on the other side of the Indian Ocean at English Point Marina looked inviting. The orange buoy swayed in the evening breeze, as a dhow and several pleasure boats bobbed on the warm ocean waters. The best thing about the meal was the setting: a table overlooking the ocean. From the Forodhani Restaurant in Old Town Mombasa, it was a snapshot of paradise. Forodhani boasts of great sea food and Swahili delicacies. The Swahili setting, with the ebb and flow of coastal Muslim life playing outside at the narrow Old Town streets arch for a perfect evening out in Mombasa. After out of this world soy and almond lattes at Java House Nyali, we sauntered down to Nyali Centre for a manicure and pedicure pampering from Mia Bella Salon. So we approached the ferry crossing back to Diani with some trepidation. We had earlier in the morning stuck bumper to bumper in traffic as the ferry services were halted due to some malfunctions. The drive back to Diani was equally a long one. Almost five hours stuck in Mombasa. My dear Sumer was so exhausted that she fell asleep in the car.

The Blue Room Restaurant & Ice Cream is a superb establishment that has undergone an impressive makeover. Previously a fast food joint, it now boasts an elegantly designed space with cozy nooks perfect for intimate dining. Well the setting is awesome 💯... Decorations and all ... The food isn't that expensive but it doesn't meet the expectations... Maybe i didn't pick the best position to sit ... But there were flies so that's something to look into

They do try their best. Food is good most of the time. But carmelized onions (on burgers) is only a lot of fried onions, or a lot of sugary fried onions if you ask them to make sure they carmelize them. Adding sugar alone is not carmelizing.

I have eaten so much food. Everything was on point. Faith served us with all her heart. Thank you young lady. Our demands were many because we have been away for too long. The Chef came to talk to me because my very sweet pancake was too small. She gave me 2 more at no cost. Seriously how can I not go back? Thank you Blueroom for an Amazing experience. The mango juice was tantalizing. I'm definitely coming back.

What a great place. The decor has changed since my last visit. From a fast food joint, it is now a tastefully prepared space with cosy spots for intimate meals. The staff are very human and friendly and go to great lengths to please. They ensure that you get exactly what you want and even assist in any other issue. ( A waitress helped me overcome some IT challenge and advised me on local travel and transport). You must try the lime and mint lemonade, absolutely delicious. The food is high quality and worth every penny. A beautiful transformation.

Loved the service this time...the waitress was attentive and really followed up to see to my comfort. The previous time I was totally ignored...I actually walked out after 10 minutes without being noticed. Hence the appreciation post. My server Lydia did a great job kudos 👏. The ice cream however tasted store bought...not hand made by the establishment

The restaurant has extremely warm stuff members. They are fast in their services and the place offers really nice food (freshly cooked on order). The price ranges from mid to high but the food portions make you see the worth for your money. Although the restaurant is busy it is not noisy. I really enjoyed the ambience. It is an ideal place to grab a bite with your loved ones while in town. On top of that, they have clean restrooms which i really appreciate

At the centre of Mombasa town and yet gives you a very cool atmosphere and space to have your meals. It is really nice and amazing for solo dates, group dates, or more. Quite spacious too, therefore providing a cool atmosphere. It is good for kids and family. They have a menu that cuts across, and their food is great. Amazing service from the waiters and waitresses, clean and organised. Suitable location for packing or getting a cab.

Have been coming to Blue room for a long time. Never disappoints. Good quantity & quality portions. Wide selection. Great restaurant. Highly recommended.

Came back to relive their legendary masala chips. Ordered with poussin. Both brought back the nostalgia. However, their tikka was pretty bland and their coleslaw tasted like it was off.. our server was great and accommodated every request. The lady behind the ice-cream counter, however, seemed liked she was there because she had bills to pay - utterly nonchalant.

The ambience is very good, it makes one forget about all the heat in Mombasa. Quick, courteous and friendly waiters and waitresses. The food was amazing. Fresh, made on order. Huge selection on the menu and not the usual biryani that is offered in every restaurant in Mombasa. Will definitely go back to taste something else

Food is sooo much good here. After many days i found my place in Mombasa to eat great food.. Thanks for saving my appetite.. :)

This place has lost its touch, not the same it used to be. Ordered Garlic Fries which were microwave heated and soggy. Food took forever to come on the table. Mint chutney was off and diluted with water, Sweet lassi overly diluted with water. Naans were not fresh. Overall food seemed to be heated of the previous day and served. Waiters don't write down the order and forget half of the order. We spent 2 hours of time at the restaurant just to be disappointed with the quality of food and service. After several reminders the item is brought to the table. Its sad to watch once a great restaurant going down!

Food took over an hour, and we also changed 3 tables because we were a large group and wanted to be comfortable. The chairs are super uncomfortable. Food was average. The chicken liver was pretty good.

Amazing food , good fast service . Over years and years old . Very famous for its North Indian cuisine. Fairly good ambiance. Air-conditioning doesn't help much and it's gets stuffy at some point .

Indian restaurant at Mombasa, still lack the authentic Indian taste
Asharti Dev — Google review
A friend recommended this establishment for an evening meal. Upon entering the building, I realised I had eaten here several years ago. It turned out to be a good restaurant and the fare was tasty too. If there was a downside to my experience, then it was the heavy, very noisy chairs around the tables. Of course, I made my displeasure known to the owner of the restaurant and also suggested a cure to these noisy chairs. Hope he follows my suggestion.

Great food and tasted ready good. The naan was the size of tortillas, and I made tacos with the shrimp dish and salad with lime juice. They don't take credit cards...

I like Indian food... here. The food here is great, if spicy is your thing as well as curry. I'm mostly here for the curry because its bloody delicious and with some Naan on the side, it's a "curry munchers" dream dish. I'd mostly recommend the Chicken Masala (Boneless) or Butter chicken (boneless) served with buttered Naan and/or rice. The food is great, service is... okay-ish. The food will get to you in time, if hopefully you went in where there were little to no customers in apart from you. I will warn you to be on the lookout for the usual flies that may make their way in, to ruin the sanctity of the restaurant. The decor of the restaurant is traditional albeit outdated, but in contrast to the cuisine they specialize in. Oh and there is more than just the usual curry here, as they do serve a variety of different dishes.

If you a fan of Indian dishes this is one of the great places to try... service is great and the food is great.
Mercie Furaha — Google review
The restaurant had a weird smell which they said was a pesticide. The chicken curry was okay but the mutton biryani is not a mutton biryani, it is more of a mutton curry with rice on top. The lights in the place aren’t good. The orange juice which in menu said it was fresh had tasted of orange squash. Hope they change their recipe. The roti tasted wonderful and that was the only positive thing with food. The service however was excellent.

"I ordered takeout Manchurian from this restaurant for 700 shs, but was disappointed by the minuscule portion size. It was far too little to satisfy even a single person, let alone serve as a meal. When I reached out to express my concern, I was informed that this portion was considered a starter. Disappointing experience overall."

This restaurant has stood the test of time! Still serving fresh wholesome meals. Got the paneer, mutton, chicken with the naan - all good! Too much sugar added in the juice, please reduce! Parking is a nightmare
irfan virji — Google review
The Waiter was Kind and Attentive. The food was below average, the naan bread was terrible. The curry was terrible in taste and quality. I don’t recommend
Horton Capital — Google review
This place needs renovation. Please upgrade your air conditioner. They are not effective anymore. Food quality is good, but naan, roti, chapati and Paratha need improvement. Though a good place for Indian cuisine in Mombasa. Veg & non.veg curry & sabji are excellent. Try their lassi...don't miss it. Biryani is too good.

Shehnai Restaurant in Mombasa offers a cultural journey through its selection of premium spices and sustainably sourced ingredients, evoking the old spice route that connected India and East Africa. Named after an Indian instrument, Shehnai serves dishes like stir-fried minced mutton with oriental spices and succulent prawns cooked in coconut cream. The restaurant's interior is simple yet it doesn't take away from the quality of their authentic and spicy Indian cuisine made with fresh vegetables and seafood.
This restaurant truly deserves more than 5stars from the friendly staff to the management taking care of you every step of your meal ,the menu has lots of varieties and excellent vegetarian options ,the potions are out of this world when i tell you breakfast was the last meal i had and i couldn’t finish my meal ,the soft Indian music transports you to another place as you enjoy your food The meal i had was recommended to me by the staff and my god the lamb was soft ,juicy and tender every single spoon you take bursts with flavour i asked for medium spicy and i got medium spicy the desert just hit the right spot not overly sweet and if you are in Mombassa visit shehnai restaurant and you will love it whether you are dining alone or with friends this is the place to go from my observation for couples the restaurant is a great date night spot my overall experience was great the food wait time was small and i had a good time surely will be back thank you (Note:If you want cant finish your meal ask and it will be neatly packed for you )

Must visit place in Mombasa town. Want to find a better Indian briyani in Mombasa come to this hotel. Atmosphere was elegant, service was very good. Health and hygiene was highly practiced. Cleaning your hand with a hot towel with the natural elements was a innovative practice I haven't seen before. At the end of your meal you will find a natural supari / mouth fresher / digestive agent will give superb finish.

They are closed on monday. So i went there on tuesday. My reception was great and the welcomed me with greetings and smile. In entrance i saw a lot of certificates hanged on the wall which this restaurant received as an award by recognized travle companies around the world. Like hospitality industry, tripadvisor, other safari and tourism bodies and they looked amazing to me. Interior is very nice and they serve people onntable ala karte. Due to covid 19 siguation i did not found other customers othar than me at that time. The waiter brought mene card and i started reading, more than 100 different varity of dishes were listed on that card and price was reasonable. Most of the food items were from asian cuisine and i requested for hyderabadi biryani. The manager suggested me to order one of their best biryani called swahili biryani and i accepted the offer. Both costed the same. After waiting for 15 minutes they served me biryani with coca cola, chutnyies and curd. I asked for spicy biryani and they did meet my requirement. I liked the taste of it so much that i decided to write this review. I enjoyed instrumental music in the background and liked the ambiance of the dining hall. The painings of old times touched me and antique collection it items mesmerized me. This restaurant met my expectation and like to visit them again. I requested for bill and they brought mouth freshener with vill. I felt very happy about this lunch. Thanks team shahnai.

Barka Restaurant, located in the heart of Mombasa island, is a popular establishment for both locals and tourists. Situated in the bustling Mombasa CBD, this eatery offers a wide variety of delicious dishes such as pilau, biryani, shawarma, and chicken tikka. The chicken biryani stands out as particularly delectable with generous portions that leave you wanting more.
While at Barka, be sure to try out their spiced tea, definitely the most amazing I have tasted in Kenya so far. The chicken shawarma is equally amazing.

Barka's Biryani was average, self service has a whole new meaning here. If only they had a system in place then you wouldn't have to go back and forth to get one thing. Am told the Friday Biryani hits and tastes different. Maybe I'll go back to confirm.

I would not recommend eating here. We got food poisoning from the food. Please check on that and ensure your food is fresh and clean. The food has no flavor. It was very bland. Also ensure there's no commotion and drama in your restaurant. It was really uncomfortable. However, the service was great. It was like eating bad food that was served well.
