Greater Hobart

Hobart, capital of Australia's island state of Tasmania, sits on the River Derwent. At its fashionable Salamanca Place, old sandstone warehouses host galleries and cafes. Nearby is Battery Point, a historic district with narrow lanes and colonial-era cottages. The city's backdrop is 1,270m-high Mount Wellington, with sweeping views, plus hiking and cycling trails.

Mawson's Huts Replica Museum

Mentioned on
Museum
Specialty Museums
The Mawson's Huts Replica Museum is a replica of the huts used by Douglas Mawson and his team on their 1911-14 Australasian Antarctic Expedition. It is situated on the waterfront in Hobart, Tasmania, and was opened to mark the 102nd anniversary of the expedition's departure. The structure is meticulously accurate in its recreation of the original hut, with detailed decoration and furnishings.
Very interesting! Its definitely worth a visit. There are lots and lots of stories to read - but if that’s not your thing you can just admire the amazing level of detail to which they replicated the original hut. The gift shop also has some things that are actually worth buying, for affordable prices.
Konrad A. W. — Google review
Interesting and well made reproduction of Mawson’s hut. I spent about an hour there which was quite enough for me. It is a small space and felt a little crowded at times with the other visitors. Definitely worth a visit if you are interested in Antarctic history.
Jeanne F — Google review
Upon recommendation from the Hobart information centre, we decided to have a look, not entirely sure as to what to expect. The museum was fantastic! The volunteers had a wealth of knowledge and personal experience to share. Hearing first hand from one of the volunteers about their time doing research, was very fascinating! It was great to see a mixture of both replica and archival pieces and learn more about the history of Mawson, his team, the dogs and the expeditions they endured. A special mention to the lovely man at the front desk, who greeted as warmly and gave us a great initial overview of what to expect inside. Overall an excellent experience, highly recommended.
Mary Fairburn — Google review
Mawson's Hut Replica museum manages to evoke the spirit and atmosphere of the real site and makes you feel the stark heroism that simply comes with enduring such, at times, savage conditions. It isn't large, but its creatively and sensitively organised and brings together the awe of the endurance of these early Antarctic explorers and a fascination with the technology and precious home comforts - and fellowship - that sustained them.
Brett Maverick — Google review
Brilliant experience that almost felt like you were in Antarctica over 100 years ago! Lots of information to read, watch and look at. Suitable for older kids and adults. I didn't know anything about Mawson's first expedition and found it very interesting.
Emilia I — Google review
To me, the ticket seemed to be a bit overpriced given the scale of a display, but no doubts, that was a clvery interesting and knowledgeable visit. Learned a lot about Australian contribution to Antartic exploration.
V K — Google review
So much more than you might expect... This fascinating episode of Australian Antarctic history is brought to life. The story of what was probably the last great expedition by one of the greatest explorers, is told through the experience of the living conditions replicated in this 'hut'. Authentic artifacts, original video footage & photographs, along with the singular experiences of each member of the expedition and the equipment and personal effects, all comes together when you enter the living space and sleeping quarters of all 18 members of the company. An extraordinary historical event successfully displayed in detail. Well worth a visit...

What a great place to learn about Australia's early explorers of Antarctica. Well worth a visit if you are in Hobart.

Friendly and informative staff, a must see for anyone who would like to see how they managed to live and explore Antarctica.

We loved this casual walk through replica of Mawson's Hut in Antarctica. Self paced it was a fascinating look at the history with great stories and an insight into the times. Volunteers were in hand to provide further information. Well worth the entry fee.
Rachel Fosdick — Google review
Absolutely fascinating. So many exhibits and so much to read and watch that you could spend a few hours in there and still not see everything. A window into the past providing insight into the privations of the grand age of exploration in Antarctica. Well worth a visit if you are visiting Hobart.
Peter Johnston — Google review
Absolutely brilliant museum, knowledgeable volunteers and top notch exhibits. Lots of detail on Mawson's expeditions to Antarctica and also the crew that accompanied him. Very much scientific discovery expeditions, not just flag planting. Do try and visit if you are in Hobart.
Tim Perkins — Google review
Fantastic experience, to see how those early expeditioners battled the elements to etch out their place in history is phenomenal. Great detail in the building, some great original pieces inside and just fantastic to look back at yesteryear, touch feel and see how they lived. I personally was surprised at how young the majority of the expedition party were.
Thomas — Google review
We visited with our 6 and 9 year old. They enjoyed their visit-- a lot to read for the older one and plenty of images and displays for the youngest. The chat with the volunteer was incredibly informative and made the story even more interesting for our kids. According to the youngest "the dogs were the best!" A great way to spend an hour!
Kelly Elam — Google review
Very informative display of replica Mawson's hut constructed in 1914 the original hut still standing in Antarctica..Gave you the feeling of being there.Reasonable entry fee.

Gardens
Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens is a historical 14-hectare site established in 1818, offering visitors an array of unique and breathtaking plants. The gardens feature a food garden, Japanese garden, and an opportunity to witness the stunning colors that emerge on male plants during Autumn. With a visitor center, restaurant, kiosk and gift shop offering high-quality products suitable for gardeners; it's easy to spend half a day here.
Wow, the second oldest gardens in Australia doesn't disappoint! Particular highlights for us were the food garden and the Japanese garden, but we easily spent half a day here. I would highly recommend bringing a picnic and enjoying lunch here. Or if you can't be prepared there is a restaurant and kiosk. The gift shop is also excellent with high quality products suitable for gardeners. We visited heading into Autumn and were just starting to see the colours change on the males, simply stunning. I'd love to visit in spring and see everything in full bloom.

Utterly gorgeous park. Beautiful landscaping and set pieces. Must see: Japanese Garden, Tasmanian Fernery, Lily pond and such a lovely garden wall running across the park. Very relaxed and beautiful. Charming cafe. (Don't forget the 'Hop On Off' bus charges just 5$ for city to gardens).
Stephen Robertson — Google review
It was very sad that the Japanese gardens were shut off. However, the rest of the gardens were still very beautiful. Very nice spot to walk around and enjoy the beautiful plants and flowers.
Caitlin — Google review
One of best Botanical Garden in Australia. People in Tasmania should be proud of keeping this beautiful, well maintained, and popular for not only locals but also visitors. It takes in about 2hrs to make a quick route with some snap photos taken, but it is recommended to plan in about 2-3hrs if time is allowed. The cafe in the middle of Garden offers pretty good and fresh food, also refreshment - Ice Cream. Definitely recommended!
Jimmy LEE — Google review
Had a wonderful morning strolling through these beautiful well maintained gardens. The information provided at the plants was appreciated. The signing for the paths worked well. Enjoyed visiting the glass house. We watched birds interacting with the plants. If you like plants and gardens then don't miss this botanical garden.
Jennifer Webb — Google review
Strongly recommend this visit if you have the weather on your side. We spent about 2.5 to 3 hours here. Our highlights were the cafe, the food garden (there were a few full grown giant pumpkin), the conservatory. We got some great pics. We had a beautiful day and thoroughly enjoyed our time here
Smita Raghavan Shetty — Google review
Top 5 things to do in Tasmania includes this for me. I enjoyed my walk for 4hrs here. For nature lovers this is a place to visit. From them entrance to exit the team was very helpful. You will find beautiful gardens from different countries here. Picnic area and gardens are amazing and well maintained.

The second oldest Botanical gardens in Australia apparently. Superb views in all directions. Sloping ground mostly but there's a buggy for those who need it. The Arctic room is bound to make the kids laugh (except on a winters day!). See short video. Great lunch at the restaurant. Very clean toilets.

Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens have approximately 14 hectares of gardens to explore. The ‘Succulent’ is the onsite restaurant and there is also a snack bar and gift shop. The lily pond is absolutely stunning and has many ducks happily enjoying it. The Japanese garden has a beautiful waterfall feature but there are other water features scattered throughout the gardens along with some sculptures. Entry to the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens is free and there is ample onsite parking.
Cindy Pirie — Google review
I always like to rate places in comparison to what's in town. The botanic gardens in Hobart were massive with lots to see. There's a diverse range of gardens, from Japanese to ones that are unique to Hobart. It's also a great spot for a leisurely stroll.

I am absolutely in love with this place. It is a place for meditation and just a quality family time. We had a lovely walk, saw beautiful flowers and enjoyed ice cream. Definitely, we will visit it again!
Olga Sukocheva — Google review
Wonderful garden worth the trip with some beautiful specimen and old stone buildings (it is over 200 years old). The bottom of the garden is a bit noisy because it is next to the highway but the top isn’t. The tea room and the shop are both lovely and the service very friendly as are the ducks…
Veronique Beghin — Google review
I had visited the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens many times and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed. The gardens are incredibly beautiful and well-maintained, with a stunning array of flora from all over the world. From the Japanese Garden to the Lily Pond, every corner of the gardens is bursting with colour and life. What really stood out to me was the knowledgeable and friendly staff who were happy to answer any questions and provide insight into the different plants and their histories. It was clear that they had a passion for what they do and were eager to share it with visitors. I also appreciated the range of amenities available, from the on-site restaurant and café to the various picnic areas and walking trails. It's the perfect place for a relaxing day out with friends or family. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens. It's truly a gem of Hobart and a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Tasmania.

Absolutely beautiful gardens to visit and mosey around in. Cafe and ice cream available. Lots to see and spend a good amount of time in. The sub arctic room was a very cool and unique touch. The conservatory was so airy and beautiful!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Royal Botanical Garden in Hobart, and I must say it was a truly memorable experience. Spread over a vast area, the garden offers a diverse range of attractions that will captivate visitors of all ages. One of the most striking features of the Royal Botanical Garden is its sheer size. The garden is expansive, with countless paths and trails winding through lush greenery and vibrant flower beds. It truly feels like a paradise for nature enthusiasts and provides ample space for visitors to explore at their own pace. To truly appreciate the beauty and variety of this magnificent garden, I would highly recommend setting aside a generous amount of time. There is so much to see and discover that a single visit might not be enough to fully appreciate everything. From meticulously curated displays of native and exotic plants to tranquil ponds and charming sculptures, every corner of the garden offers a new and enchanting surprise. One aspect that particularly impressed me about the Royal Botanical Garden was its family-friendly atmosphere. The garden caters to visitors of all ages, making it an excellent choice for a day out with children. There are dedicated play areas, interactive exhibits, and educational programs that are both entertaining and informative. It's a wonderful opportunity for kids to learn about nature and develop a love for the environment.

The Tasmanian Botanical Gardens is undeniably a must-visit destination. There’s an abundance of natural beauty to behold in this charming little spot, and I wholeheartedly recommend a visit. It’s an enchanting place to unwind, immerse yourself in nature, and take in the serene surroundings. There are numerous opportunities to pause and relax, thanks to the many well-placed benches along your path. I initially planned for just a couple of hours but found myself captivated and ended up spending half the day exploring the countless wonders this garden has to offer.

If you want some peace and nature and a very beautiful garden just inside the city, this is the place. It's quite big and has some small lakes, Japanese, italian gardens and you can see many different trees and plants, native and from around the world as well. All year round is nice, but of course Spring and Autumn have the best colors. You can spot some nice birds as well and it's It's always free entry from sunrise to sunset! Highly recommend.
Bilal Kifayat Ullah — Google review
Absolutely beautiful gardens to visit. Great cafe plus takeaways (the wrap and coffee were 5/5) to just sit and enjoy some stunning gardens after a wander around. Didn't see it all as the wine festival was happening in a section of the gardens and came too late to attend. Free entry but donations appreciated.
Steve W — Google review
Cute garden, but the walk from the city is beyond far and uphill on a rocky surface. Also, no shade on the path from the city. The Japanese Garden is cute, food garden has a variety of crops and there were some orchestra and carolling singers rehearsing. The shop was cute and had quite a variety of local products. There is also a small shop for takeaway snacks and drinks, and a restaurant if you’d like to sit in.
Ka Ling (Drkyling) — Google review
I absolutely love these gardens! There is so much space, and you can bring your dog if on lead and enjoy a picnic lunch anywhere you like! The majority of the gardens are wheelchair and pram friendly, and you can always find another path to take. There is an on-site restaurant and cafe if you feel like grabbing a coffee and having a stroll. You will always find a quiet place to sit and relax. Clean and immaculate paths and grounds and lots of toilet facilities. Always lots of activities around the park and the grounds can be hired privately for functions, events and weddings. The park is free to enter, donations are welcome. Some shows and experiences in the park may have admission fees.
Jasmine McCollom — Google review
Pretty nice park to spend a quality time with your family. As being in a hilly region, there are quite a few ups and downs so be careful with little ones. My son is 2 and half and he kept running and fall down quite a few times. Nothing major though. Parking was little tough to get near the garden. But greenery as Botanical garden was wonderful.
Praveen K — Google review
I visited in late March and there were great variety of plants with beautiful flowers and red leaves. The garden is entry free and you can spend a whole day here if you like plants.
Chung Karen — Google review
These gardens are so stunning, one of the best botanical gardens I’ve visited. Such a beautiful array of plant varieties & flowers, there are gorgeous water views as well. There’s a cafe on site & a cute gift shop. I love coming back here & strolling around the gardens. It would be a perfect place for a picnic or date. Definitely recommend a visit if you’re near here / coming to Hobart.

Total perfection. One of the best botanical gardens I have ever seen. The great care and passion going into the maintenance and landscaping of these beautiful gardens is incredible and shines through in every corner of this fantastic park. Thank you to everyone who works on these gardens and making them a place of joy and wonder for everybody.

Absolutely relaxing and refreshing place in the heart of Hobart city. You can easily spend the whole day if you want. It is a location for people of all ages, but children in particular loving it. We spent quality time with a few others, our family and friends, playing cricket and having a nice picnic.

With 14 hectares to explore, the Royal Botanical Gardens in Hobart are well worth a visit. Although there is no entrance fee a donation box is situated at the main gate. There is a visitor hub at the main entrance so grab a map & wander to your heart's content. On a warm sunny day it's the perfect place to have a picnic after exploring the Japanese Garden or the Lotus Pond. You can spend the whole day here or just a few hours depending on your schedule. Magnificent old trees, beautiful garden beds, a community vegetable garden or lunch at the restaurant, it's an enjoyable day out.
Pen Jennings — Google review
Still one of the most stunning of the Australian Capital's botanic gardens and has really done well with the upgraded paths and garden infrastructure and signage. The restaurant was also unexpectedly delightful with a fine chef there plying his trade to perfection, exactly what that establishment requires to encourage not just the botanically minded to visit the gardens. It's a really nice touch. Take look in the kitchen via the ice cream stand. You can see the chef is truly passionate! From the Japanese inspired gardens to Aussie Gums and natives, to the icey Antarctic grasses and mosses, this garden is a true gem (which if anything, should be extended as much as possible on all the crown land nearby to expand it's glory. Please do it Tas Gov!). There is much to see and plenty of spaces to sit down and take it all in. Sweet-tooth's take note, there's also a slice (read a scoop) of Valhalla to rescue you on a hot, sunny day like the day we visited... so leave space or walk lunch off like I did to make room. In summary.... Beautiful in every sense of the word.

Lark Distillery is a whiskey bar located in Salamanca Place in Hobart, Tasmania. It has an atmosphere and flavours that are unique, with small batches of the whisky crafted from pure Tasmanian ingredients. It can be pricey to taste but it's worth it for some great whisky.
It’s an amazing place to explore the taste of Tasmania whisky🥃. Services were very nice and attentive 🤵🏻🤵🏼‍♀️, they explained to me their range of whisky. You can enjoy your delicious whisky inside 🛋or outside🌊 appreciating a wonderful view🌅 and the great playlist🎶.

If you're in Hobart, don't miss this place for whisky and gin. Some of THE BEST whiskey I have tasted along with fantastic Gins. Did not try any food as we were off for lunch elsewhere...I don't even know if it serves food. Price does vary for each drink.... Highly recommended

Another nice place to try local whisky. The whisky options are endless. This place gets busy, so please be patient with the staff they are doing their best.
Andy Curtis — Google review
Very nice, hugely comfortable chairs and some very nice whisky. Unfortunately it's also about the most expensive I've come across. Price for their cheapest 500ml is similar to a lot of other 750ml single malts. It's very good but that good?
Sean Hennessy — Google review
Staff were friendly and attentive. Very informative on the drinks and the history. Enjoyed what we sampled. The atmosphere could possibly be refined a bit more. My partner had to ask for a water dropper which I think should be offered when tasting whisky’s. Over all great experience.
Chantelle Phee — Google review
Incredibly memorable experience here. The setting is so snug and intimate. The Slainte Liqueur was absolutely beautiful, as was the hospitality. Highly personable and attentive bar staff who know exactly how to make their customers feel welcome. A precious and quintessential Tassie experience indeed! Very impressed.

After a day walking through Hobart and consuming an early dinner we stopped here. The atmosphere and tasting area set the tone. We sat down and were given a tasting menu. The selection was diverse and the pricing was high. We each made our selections and enjoyed the one to two tastes we got from each glass. Any thoughts of taking on home was dashed when I saw the $200 to $400 price for a bottle of the whiskey I liked the best. Our stay was short, our bill was high but we did enjoy the time we were here.

A delightful whiskey flight experience, curated for me by Nikki. Her product knowledge and careful consideration of my preferences delivered the perfect trio of whiskeys to try. Bought a couple of bottles to take home, based on her recommendation.

Wow wow wow! Australian whisky has come a long way and what a way to spend Tassie Whisky Week than heading to where the Tassie Whisky Legends all began! Sensational atmosphere and tasting flights and some sensational bottles to take home.
Marc “Tokky” Gardner — Google review
The whisky speaks for itself! Always love a good tasting session and the atmosphere is lovely here. Warm (almost hot) comfy old leather seats and matching decor! The staff are very informative and good at what they do, but we were a little disappointed with the slow pace and misdirection on ordering, but only a small thing as the whisky made up for it, and surprisingly beautiful gin tasting. Highly recommend the pinot noir with Tonic! Thanks for a great experience!
Mark Taylor — Google review
Did some tastings. Staff were friendly and informative. Didn't get a chance to grab a bite to eat but the tastings were good. As with everywhere in Tassie, whiskey tastings are expensive but quality spirits.

Fancy being a non-drinker and heading into a Whiskey den! That was me this January, but the team at Lark took it in their stride. DH is developing a taste for whiskey so we wanted to explore what is said to be the best whiskey in Australia. The team at Lark provided suggestions and a great card to help us appreciate the tasting experience. This is great place to go for both new whiskey drinkers and the experienced. It is intimate but not pretentious, and the team at Lark will do their best to ease you into the tasting so its a good experience.
Leah Kid Bucket List — Google review
The atmosphere and decor set the tone for a great (early) afternoon of tasting. Staff were very approachable, friendly and knowledgeable. Took their time to explain the intricacies of whisky making and tasting. Made some terrific recommendations for us to taste and even bought a bottle upon leaving. Will visit again for sure.

Wow what a whisky. Really nice punch and nice atmosphere to have a drink. Not busy and very classy. Had whisky tasting and borough 2 bottles and glasses. Will visit again for sure
Waruna Wickramanayake — Google review
As a tourist it was hard to find time to visit this place. Their hours are 12-7 every day - not exactly whisky drinking hours, at least for me. But we made it by and glad we did. Bartenders are well informed about the whisky, I got a full education with the flight I had (highly recommend that route). The whisky itself is astonishingly good, as we found over most of Tasmania. Subdued, sophisticated but approachable atmosphere. Be advised, entrance is not on street front. We had to wind our way through an alley and past a delivery truck to find the front door.

Historical place museum
The Hobart Convict Penitentiary is a historic edifice from 1830 that served as a chapel, court, and jail for male convicts. It also featured an execution yard with gallows. Visitors can take a 90-minute tour of the site which includes exploring the court house and jail cells, as well as learning about the history of the penitentiary from knowledgeable guides.
I visited here several years ago with my husband and at the time 1.5yr old. The tour was awesome and worthwhile doing. We loved learning about this history of the penitentiary. The tour guide was really knowledgable and answered any additional questions we had. No problem having a young child on the tour as long as you're prepared to carry them when needed. Definitely recommend visiting.
Helen Di Domenico — Google review
Had an interesting conversation with the lady volunteering she had a wealth of knowledge on convict history and actually had 2 family members that were convicts back in the day. Matthew was our tour guide and he led us through the history of the buildings and what life was like for not only the prisoners but penitentiary workers too. He had a lot of information on the hangman and grave digger which reminded us life was really unpleasant for a long time in Tasmania. Tour is interactive, has a movie to watch but be aware there are tight steps to be climbed to access tunnels and different wings of the penitentiary. A small part of the tour is underground with the majority at street level. Definitely recommend this tour.
Cindy Pirie — Google review
Did the ghost tour and it was awesome! Was a small group and Stacy was amazing tour guide. Told us all about the history of the penitentiary. Had a cheeky ghost experience as well!! Would definitely do it again and recommend it to anyone visiting Hobart.

Visited for the ghost tour and was entranced by the amazing history of the place. This place is scary by night, especially when you're locked in the cells. It's a lot of fun and the tour guides are very knowledgeable. Make sure you wear flats or sneakers as the old stone floors are very uneven.

My visit to the Hobart Convict Penitentiary was a memorable and enriching experience. The admission fee of $25/pax includes a 90-minute guided tour, which also features a 30-minute film. It was our last stop in Tasmania, which completes the narrative after visiting Port Arthur and The Female Factory. I was impressed by the professionalism and dedication of the staff (Sky) and volunteer guides (Mike) who are passionate about preserving the history of the ex-convicts in Hobart. Their knowledge and enthusiasm shone through as they shared fascinating facts and stories about the history. The admission fees go towards ensuring the site's upkeep & the compounds are well-maintained. I was pleased to learn that the government has also provided funding for a new museum. Overall, I recommend a visit to the Hobart Convict Penitentiary for anyone interested in Tasmania's history and culture. The guided tour is well worth the cost, and the staff's commitment to their work is truly admirable. Thank you!

We did the 90 minute tour of the penitentiary and the grounds and it was fantastic! Our guide was very knowledgeable, and was happy to answer any questions we had. Particularly loved the movie in the chapel and walking through the tunnels. Great way to spend an afternoon in Hobart!
Alice Walker — Google review
This was an amazing tour and our guide Sarah was fabulous. Yes it is a smaller site than some of the other historical jail sites but boy does it pack a punch. We learnt the history of the remaining parts of the building (unfortunately a lot was demolished due to "progress" in the city - such a shame). What we did see though was just so interesting and we learnt more about our convict history in this compact setting than elsewhere. The Pandemonium movie in the chapel was great and it put a face and background to the convicts making it more true to life. The tour of the court and mock sentencing added some realism. We then moved onto the gallows area and the related stories - especially Margaret Coghlin. This site is not as well known as the other convict sites in Tasmania but is well worth the visit. Thanks for an extremely interesting and knowledgeable tour and it has heightened our interest in our convict history.

They offer a shared meal where diners get to taste each other's food, as well as wine and cocktails. The owner believes in keeping the restaurant intimate and makes sure that everyone enjoys their time there.
Delicious, hearty set menu, heroing local ingredients. Staff were friendly and happy to provide good wine recommendations. Most of my photos show portions for 2 diners. Small, intimate venue with a large round table for communal seating. Was good to chat with likeminded diners.

This place was very nice. The service was quite friendly and welcoming. We sat at the communal table which was cute. The food here was really nice but some of them were just lacklustre. Especially the pasta, which tasted like a spaghetti bolognese with a different type of pasta. I think this is the type of place where you expect inventive dishes but most of them were just above average.

We booked this restaurant weeks in advance before our trip looking at the reviews and we were not let down. We had a wonderful 6 course dinner in a home dinner setting, where the chef whips out dishes that seems to change weekly based on produce and every single dish was simple but exceptional. Ambience of this small restaurant is cozy, yet with a home dinner party charm with communal seating but that adds to the charm of this place. Not the most comfortable seating for a long dinner but couldn't care about it as we were enhoying our meal. Service by the two staff was quick, efficient and at point with a smile. Great work team and would highly rate this for a unique dinner experience but with excellent cooking.

We had four course lunch and the food was absolutely stunning. Each meal was well thought out, simple and flavorful, and the flavours are memorable. The risotto is sublime. It was delicious. The price was reasonable too given the high standard and quality of both food and hospitality. Standing ovation to the team at Templo. Highly recommend if you are coming to Hobart for hols - make sure you reserve a place to avoid disappointment on the day.

Fortunate to get a booking during our short stay in Hobart. Lives up to its reputation. Visited on Saturday and the food was amazing, as well as the service. Well recommended.

Enjoyed our experience at Templo, there was room for about 30 guests. Some with their own table and some on communal dinning table which was not a problem. Small drink selection but sufficient to the menu items. Friendly service, and tasty food, my favourite was the Gruyère with Honey toast. The pasta’s were full of flavour. Recommend when you come to Hobart

Beautiful meal, and fantastic service. The Jerusalem Artichokes were an absolute highlight! Would highly recommend, and we will certainly be back. Thank you!

Places like this puts Tassie on the map! All 6 courses, the anchovy toast and wine we got was worth it. Definitely a place to come back to in Hobart.

A definite must visit if you’re in Hobart. The venue is very small, only fitting 25 covers, but for the two chefs it’s probably great. Cozy, warm atmosphere with attentive and fun staff. Definitely a focus on more natural wines but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Great space and felt very comfortable in here… it’s small and very personal…staff are extra knowledgeable… no wait on food… set menu only It’s not somewhere I’d go every week but I would wholeheartedly recommend… particularly if you’re in town for a week… but on reflection I’d have to day it is intense… there is no interaction with staff…apart from when food is dropped on table… and successive courses are often served on same places… which is not great when subtle flavors are important in this style of dining… It’s Ali not possible to finish with a tea or coffee… as there’s not enough time!

Brilliant! We loved our dinner here! We were lucky to get a last minute booking whilst passing through Hobart - so glad we did! The restaurant has a great vibe, small and intimate. And the staff were so welcoming and helpful (even gave us tips for where to go on our trip!). My dietary requirements were accommodated without a fuss and all the food was delicious. Great value and wonderful all round experience - highly recommend!

Warm, personal, cosy hearth of a place. Limited seating so book ahead. Brilliant food with a rustic feel reminds me of dinner at nan's. Playful flavours and textures make you forget about time and simply indulge in the moment. Awesome time to be had. Thank you so much. PS. soda water got the beetroot stain out 👍

Definitely a gastronomic experience. Love the quaint small space, service was efficient and friendly. Courses were adventurous, delicious unless you just don’t care for certain things. Example, I devoured the beetroot salad but beets aren’t my wife’s thing so not as big a hit with her. Pasta was outstanding, easily the best of the night. Bottom line if you consider yourself a foodie you owe it to yourself to make it to a seating here. You won’t be disappointed.

Templo was smaller than I expected, but it gives you a cozy vibe. We were a group of 4 and sat at the bar. Food was delicious. I loved all the combinations. The orange wine was amazing. Staff was welcoming at first but throughout the night was just a bit flat. That makes a difference at the end. Funny they just bring the bill after dessert without notice. I guess it’s because it was close to 8pm already, which is the second seating.

Heard so much about this tiny spot in Hobart and it didn’t disappoint at all 😍. The staff were extremely accomodating and kind. And the food, it was awesome especially the risotto dish. Extremely delicate and very high quality. Highly recommend if you are visiting Hobart

Overall a solid food experience! 1 out of the 6 dishes was truly exceptional: beef tartar / crudo. The best beef tartar I’ve had! All other dishes were either good or okay, but didn’t stand out. The main course pork scotch was too fatty and bland to my disappointment. The space was very cozy but a bit crowded. We didn’t have to share a table with strangers but 4 other couples did. There were two employees(?) loudly bit**ing about ppl at the bar right next to our tiny table.

Our favourite restaurant in Hobart! The food was incredible, the two waitresses were so friendly, personable and welcoming. Could not fault the food, the atmosphere or the service. Will definitely come here again!
Tiffany Lee — Google review
This place was a food highlight of Hobart. It’s a very small venue, and more than likely you will be sharing a table with others or seated somewhere that is frankly, awkward. Yet somehow, the food more than makes up for this. Understated, but clean, bright and tasty. I also think for what you’re getting, very fairly priced. Absolutely would recommend
T V — Google review
Definitely an experience, and not a restaurant to go to if you want to get ‘full’. That being said, you don’t leave hungry either. All the food was expertly created and presented as artwork. The wait service was attentive yet unobtrusive. Interesting concept of a ‘set menu’ for each customer - of course variations are catered for, for any food intolerances or allergies. Do not try and ‘walk in’, bookings are essential. The only addition I would suggest is a change in the background music - and perhaps a ‘voice over’ or something to give us a knowledge of where the local produce had been sourced, or similar. Would create a good addition to what is an excellent and enjoyable venue for a special occasion. Thank you, Templo for a great evening in Hobart.
Craig Minty — Google review
I felt underwhelmed honestly. Some of the dishes were good but overall I didn’t leave feeling inspired. One of the waiters was rude and didn’t seem to know the menu whatsoever. It’s a gorgeous concept, I wish Templo the best but I won’t be coming back 🤷🏽‍♀️

Born in Brunswick is a much-loved cafe that has been popular with locals in North Hobart for years. It’s a well-designed and atmospheric space, made to feel like an island retreat, and full of delicious Scandi-inspired dishes. There are always plenty of people inside, so it’s perfect for catching up with friends or enjoying some peaceful relaxation time.
One of the loveliest cafes in Hobart. Modern design, great coffee, good service and delicious modern breakfast menus. It can be very crowded but that’s a good sign that something is good inside.

Such a vibrant, bright and modern cafe. It’s well managed by a group of young people. They are diligent, courteous and running the place in good order. Every single customer has been looked after. The food is of exceptional standard. Both coffees and hot chocolate are good. We really enjoyed our dine in experience here and highly recommend it.

Born in Brunswick in Hobart is a culinary gem offering exceptional dining experiences. I recently tried their octopus scrambled eggs and baked eggs, both fantastic. The octopus scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked and beautifully presented, while the baked eggs were bursting with flavor. Just be cautious of parking signs—I received a ticket for overstaying the 30-minute limit. Nonetheless, Born in Brunswick is a must-visit for food enthusiasts in Hobart. Thanks 😊

We stumbled on Born In Brunswick during a recent trip to Hobart and so thrilled we did! The decor is gorgeous Scandy, sprinkled with greenery and an abundance of natural light filled the place. The service was incredibly friendly and prompt. The food was impeccably delish, and a feast for the eyes! Coffee was exactly the way we like it (we even got take away coffees). Looking forward to our next trip to Hobart, especially now we know where to go for great service, food and coffee!

From Melbourne I saw Born in Brunswick recommended on social media. This week my family and I were very fortunate to experience it ourselves. It was so good the first day, we returned each morning! From corn fritters, melt in your mouth scrambled eggs, to delicious and fragrant porridge, everything was absolutely delicious. Staff were very attentive and due to other tourist commitments we had booked, turned our order around extremely quick. To top off a beautiful culinary experience, there coffee was also a stand out. We will definitely be back when next in Hobart. Thank you team

We left this place having mixed feelings. Coffee here is one of the best we've tried, probably on the same level as Ona. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The menu is simple and very inspiring. The octopus scrambled eggs was incredible. However, other options that we tried weren't so great: avo toast looked gorgeous but the taste wasn't something special, baked eggs were a good shakshuka variation, chicken schnitzel burger was overcooked and was a bit dry.

Tried the cauliflower dish... it was amazing! I'm not vegan or vegetarian, but really enjoyed the combination of flavours. (Can also recommend the corn fritters - yum!).The staff are friendly & attentive, but not in your face. Loved sitting at the window bench, watching the world go by.

We had breakfast here during our stay in Hobart upon the recommendation from our brother and we were not disappointed. Food was prompt and very enjoyable, especially the chill scramble and baked eggs being very well seasoned and coffee was also hard to fault. The staff were very attentive and accommodating for our 1 year old whilst the decor was very aesthetically appealing. Will definitely be back next time to try other dishes.

Whenever crossing North Hobart, always saw this place full of people. So, got the chance to visit and it is such a lively place with sun rays coming in store that make you in love with the ambience😍. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. We ordered Vanilla Hotcake (give this a try, you guys will love it) and Baked eggs/ Harissa spiced tomato sauce which was also good but with a sour taste which I'm not really a fan of yet enjoyed it. We had 2 drinks which were nice. Overall, it's a nice place with such a good natural lighting.

Best brunch experience so far during our holiday here in Hobart. Food and coffee was fantastic. The service we received was fabulous. Highly recommend the Corn Fritters and Octopus with Scrambled Eggs.
Belinda L — Google review
Definitely a strong recommendation to head to Born in Brunswick. Expect a hefty portion size of incredibly flavourful meals. The corn fritters was a beautiful way to start the day, balancing the warm and sweet crunch of the fritters with the cool freshness of the lettuce and cucumber. Worth driving a teensy bit out of the CBD to check it out if you want to have a delicious brunch.

I don’t get why this place had many reviews. We felt very uncomfortable when we walked in, asked if we were eating food. Only if you are eating food you would get a seat, even though we were here for food, but felt uncomfortable due to the language one of the staff was asking like that . While I was waiting for my order, the staff had been trying to take my plate for 5 times, feel very rushed, not a nice atmosphere for dining in experience. Most of food is deep fried which is not healthy at all. The couple who were sitting next to us, had been asking to leave as people are waiting outside! And also it is totally not worth for the price, definitely would NOT recommend this place!

Enjoyed a little brunch here with my partner today. Loved my Tasmanian Octopus Scrambled Eggs. Very flavourful and delicious. Paired very well with the sour dough. My partner also enjoyed his Baked Eggs with a side of Chorizo. No flaws with the food and am happily satisfied. Coffees were great too. Lovely customer service and a beautiful interior. The only down side was that the food were quite towards the higher end for a Cafe. Whereas the coffee prices were quite cheap. Nonetheless, would definitely come back for more delicious food. 😊

Hands down the best chilli scramble (with octopus) ever had ever! And I mean ever. It was spicy, tasty, the sourdough was well toasted, and the dish itself was just bursting with flavour. Cannot wait to go back.

A vibrant, bright and modern cafe - very fresh and good lighting. Good service and friendly people - everyone has been looked after. The food is delicious and was quite pleasantly surprised with its exceptional standard. Coffees were good as well, but food was even better. We really enjoyed our dine in experience here and highly recommend it. Probably the best brunch place I’ve had in Hobart.

Service and place are great but the food is totally overpriced and not suited my taste. Ordered a scrambled egg with sourdough and buttermilk chicken, both are 🤢. Scrambled egg is too plain, the chicken burger is very salty. And I reckon the plating is different from others' posts a few years ago. - @foodjournal.byjess

I dropped in for an impromptu brunch and as usual BiB does not disappoint. Todays fare was vanilla hotcake / lemon curd / blueberries / pistachio praline / kaffir lime and coconut ice cream and it was delicious. Crunchy crust of fresh cooked hotcake and a cloud of Persian floss with blueberries hiding in a lightly tangy lemon curd was delightful. The pistachios and coconut added the exotic taste. The coffee, well that was sublime! Even with technology glitches the ordering was uncomplicated. This is definitely a spot that locals love and has regular clientele showing you it's worth the effort

We booked in here on a Monday night in July, the fact it was open and quite busy was really nice considering so many places were shut for Monday. The service was great, the restaurant itself is nice and the paintings (landscapes) are great if you can have a look at all of them. See started with oysters which were delicious, we got the octopus next and unfortunately it was super tough and overcooked. We hardly ever send for back, but for the price it wasn't right so we mentioned this to the waitress and we got a new serving which came out perfect. The didn't have all the steaks on the menu so I settled for a sirloin which was fine. The wine list was thorough and they also had 350ml bottles which was good as I didn't want a full bottle. Overall good night and we will return when we're back.

A beautiful restaurant to dine in. Had the specials of the night; The Spanner Crab on toasted brioche was delicious and the Seafood Stew was so flavourful. The Scotch Fillet did not disappoint. The Apple Tart was amazing! Nothing in the tart was soggy or mushy. Everything in that tart has a good amount of crunch and not too sweet. Service was fantastic. Would recommend this place to anyone.

The food here is impeccable. Every single dish was delicious and cooked perfectly- definitely highlights the quality of produce from Tasmania. The calamari was so soft and tasty, the king fish was brilliantly cured and full of flavour with a lovely texture. The steaks were a highlight- cooked exactly as we ordered and it was so full of flavour and freshness. Paris of mash was delectable! Staff were friendly and helpful and knew their stuff- thanks Leigh you legend. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys a high quality steak. Thank you for making my friend’s birthday a memorable one

I'll just add to the long list of good reviews. Really cool, dark vibe going on when you first walk in. Service was relaxed, polite and attentive and then there was the food ! The Squid starter was tasty, the Steak was cooked perfectly, potatoes were beautiful and the creme caramel was really delicious... Oh and the Sullivan Cove American Oak wasn't to bad either! Well worth a visit.

Fantastic atmosphere and setting of the room. It felt like dining in a museum! Great attention from the waiter telling us about the history of the paintings. The food was divine. The most perfectly cooked steak I've probably ever had. The café de paris was really amazing to pair with the steak. The beef tartare was beautiful and had really great flavours! For dessert, I had the dark chocolate cremeux which came with liquorice ice cream and it was surprisingly delicious, i normally do not like liquorice so this was very pleasing.

It has a nice atmosphere, though the classical music is a bit too cheesy. Appetisers are delicious. My main complaint is the 'Surf and Turf' option is very overpriced. For $40, I thought I would get at least half a lobster, but it is tiny compared to the steak (photo attached). I left without having dessert. My steak also has a long piece of silver skin which is difficult to remove.

Amazing place for steak and Tasmanian food. The interior with its landscape paintings look incredible as well. Have a try of the Oysters on the menu they are so delicious as well as have a try of the amazing Gewürztraminer white wine on the menu.

Pleasant dining experience at a good venue. Chargrilled octopus was spectacular, definitely a must try. Fish was great, not amazing. Great service from staff. Dessert was awful, both the chocolate and cheesecake (which neither tastes nor looks like one) were terrible.

Outstanding !!! We are a family of 4 with two teens. We each ordered a steak with sides to share (fat chips and broccolini). The steak was delicious and grilled to perfection. Fat chips were perfect as was the broccolini. We were quite full but squeezed in a dessert to share the yuzu cheesecake. It was absolutely delicious, light and a perfect way to end the meal. The service was excellent, the ambience was great and the artwork around the restaurant was beautiful. Very well enjoyed evening that we will not forget.

Overall 4.5 out of 5 Such a warm & beautifully moody place to celebrate our anniversary. Alot of thought went into the design to make the artworks the centrepiece of the restaurant. We enjoyed viewing these as we waited for our food. Service was amazing and the food came out at a good pace. Oysters were amazing with the dressing done just right. My absolute favourite dish was the beef tartare (so rich & creamy) and my partner's was the wagyu (cooked perfectly) with pepperberry & cognac sauce. Other dishes were still nice and really would be up to individual preferences We walked out feeling so full and felt it was worth every dollar and more, especially when you compare this to the quality of food back in Sydney. Will be back to try the menu the next time we're back in Hobart

Really such an amazing place to have had my 25th birthday dinner celebration. Atmosphere was warm and welcoming yet very calm and relaxed. We started off the night with some sour dough and butter. The sour dough was extremely crunchy and was great with the butter. We then went onto ordering half a dozen of Sparkling and Mustard dressing, chives and lemon, beef tartare, scotch fillet & the pork cutlet for the main with paris mash, truffle and brussel sprouts. Oysters are always great to have, very refreshing and I liked that they placed the dressing on the side so you can decide whether you'd like it with or without the dressing. We also ordered the beef tartare which I absolutely loved. Tasted creamy and paired well with the crackers they served it with. My steak was perfectly cooked to medium as I ordered. Seared on the outside and red in the middle. Salted perfectly, soft and juicy. The pork cutlet was what amazed me the most. One word to describe it was simply DELICIOUS. Crispy outside, soft in the middle and very juicy. Paris mash was just mashed potatoes but paired very well with the truffle. I did not try the brussels sprouts as I am not a fan of Brussels sprouts but my partner did seem to enjoy them. The cheese from the brussels sprouts were quite pungent even though I did not eat any. We finished it up with a Creme Caramel. At this point, we were both too full to eat it but battled and finished most of it. It was still very delicious. Very creamy & sweet but not too sweet. Overall, portion size were decent and filling, food were delicious and would definitely come back again. A little bonus, we asked about the knives with initials at the front, it was said that every booking will go under your name and once you've been here for the 35th time, you'll get your own knife with your initials on it. Quite interesting and a seemingly fun way to keep the customers 😊

Delicious food. Our party all had the steak which they said was very good. I had mushroom Gnocchi, little pillow of deliciousness!! The ambience was very fancy. Fine dining so quite pricy but worth it. Loved the artwork on the walls and the staff were friendly and efficient! Definitely recommend!

I felt being neglected though the staff were busy running around all the time. Obviously the restaurant manager didn’t arrange enough personnel today. Waiter and waitress of other tables don’t respond to us, “maybe”they didn’t see us raising hands or calling them. No TEAM SPIRIT - restaurant management issue I guess. The food and drink is great though.

While in search of the perfect seafood restaurant, I stumbled upon what can only be described as Tasmania’s finest steakhouse. The ambiance was absolutely enchanting, with dimmed lighting set at the perfect level, and tables spaced generously to ensure a comfortable and private dining experience. The exquisite artwork and lighting complemented the mood perfectly. I opted for the 300-gram Wagyu steak, and it was impeccably prepared to my exact specifications. To start, I indulged in the calamari, which, without a doubt, ranks as the most delectable calamari I’ve ever had. This establishment may not cater to those seeking enormous portions, but it excels in delivering exceptional quality. Quality comes at a price, and you will certainly pay for it here, but I can assure you, it is worth every penny

Frank Restaurant is Hobart's funky parilla joint with a fun and festive atmosphere. The open converted-office space is perfect for gathering friends and sampling the varied tapas while indulging in some of the best Argentine meat around.
We done here every time we visit Hobart and this restaurant maintains its high standards and quality. We love the grilled chicken, the pork belly and potatoes are a staple we always order. We also enjoyed the strip loin and charred vegetables as well. The wine and drinks menu features Tasmanian beer, wine and spirits. Always an excellent experience and very friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Lovely Argentinean restaurant near the piers. We ordered a hanger steak and the grilled chicken. The hanger steak was really good and came with chimmichurri and a spicy sauce while the grilled chicken could probably do with more spices or flavour. Overall, still a good experience and the service was very attentive.

We ordered the 3 course menu. It comes with two starters, two sides and two mains. We enjoyed the variety and the creativity with taste. Not very impressed by the crispy pork but we love the steak (one of the mains), very tender with char on the surface. The salad was a little too salty when served with other dishes, we prefer a salad with a sweeter tone (ended up mixing the apple gravy from the crispy pork into the salad). Good atmosphere and service.

Great atmosphere, restaurant was well designed. Some dishes were a hit, others were a miss - we started with the roasted oysters which were done well. Ceviche was not bad, cola pork belly lacked the cola flavour (we only remembered that this was cola halfway through the meal), and Tira de Ancho lacked the usual fattiness. We ordered a medium rare, but this seemed to be cooked medium to medium-well.. Service was decent but rather curt.

Great location by the pier. Very modern, sleek decor with funky lighting. I was expecting the cuisine to be more authentically Argentine, but it was tasty enough, although we were never asked how we wanted the meat cooked and the portions were on the small side. The banana dessert was disappointing.

A pretty decent pick for dinner, lovely service. Our server recommended the Feed Me menu, which included three courses — a good mix of familiar & esoteric picks that we’d otherwise not order if not for the surprise menu. The steak was a little tough but still nice, and the entrees were definitely on the salty side; but the service really brings up the rating for me. I noted my food preferences and dislikes, and they were l careful to mention when a dish contained said elements. Water was constantly refilled, and the upbeat attitude of our waitress was lovely. The view of the harbour isn’t half bad either!

We just had lunch at Frank’s and loved it. Fabulous space, great service and we even felt comfortable taking our 1 year old (she was very well behaved 😅). They do have high chairs by the way. The food was delicious, on the pricey side but good quality and delicious flavours. Would have loved a slightly bigger wine list and a bit more info about all the wines but the Two Tonne Riesling we had definitely satisfied. I’d definitely recommend 😋

Absolutely delicious! The whipped cod was insanely good and is a MUST! We also had the cola pork belly which was cooked to perfection and had the crispiest skin. The chicken and the cabbage were also very good. Especially the parmesan on the cabbage, never had anything like that before! Would recommend 10/10 😍

Dining at Frank was wonderful. Staff were so wonderful and the ambience was great. Loved the set up. Wine list and cocktails are in point and the steak was tasty. A great restaurant for celebrating my sister’s 18th! Perfect cigarettes on the ceiling to mark the occasion. 😂 paprika potatoes were superb. Not as many varieties with the menu as I was first expecting but service quick, food fair priced and friendly nonetheless. Would be surprised if we didn’t come back here again.

Stunning. Sensational. Order the zucchini. We've been to Asado and Palermo in Melbourne, and Frank knocks the socks off both of them. Every dish we ordered was a smash hit, steak and chicken cooked to perfection and everything seasoned beautifully. The service was exceptional and we felt very well taken care of. Tip: order the zucchini side dish. I loved it so much that I refused to share it with my husband and ate it all myself.

Where do I start. Booked in advance for Valentine’s Day for an intimate experience. Was seated at a window with my partner seated next to me in a “casual” setting facing a car park and not opposite in a typical setting. Raised this with two staff and totally dismissed. Food horrible. Cold and overpriced. Never again will I visit. Such a shame from what Frank used to be.

Overall: a disappointing night out. Prices charged out of kilter with the experience offered. However, YMMV if you have different needs. I had dinner for two for an anniversary. In hindsight, not a great space for this. I didn't find it too noisy (unlike other reviews) but it's just not really a cosy or intimate space. Ambience/decor not really nice. Food - in fairness, we tried only fish and vegetable dishes. Regular oysters were very tasty. Ceviche was good. However, the vegetable dishes were consistently underwhelming. My impression is that the restaurant felt an obligation to offer something vegetarian but then just didn't put much thought (or skill, maybe) into it. The sweet potato side probably needed more salt and the minced almond was a bad addition. The main of "charred vegetables" was a small portion ($28?) Without much flavour or personality. Look, maybe the lesson is that this place is aimed at meat eaters. Certainly, if you are vegetarian, look elsewhere. I left feeling satisfied but my partner literally went somewhere else to order gyoza, which is not what you want after spending $70+ pp and ordering five dishes. A sad experience for what was meant to be a bit of a splurge and a special night out.

We dined at Frank restaurant on Monday evening. The menu has variety of food and drinks. We chose steaks – Entrana and Tira de Ancho – both of which were quite good. Additionally, we ordered Polenta, beef carpaccio, and grilled pumpkin. For beverages, we opted for the classic Caipirinha, which was also great.
Wellington Silva — Google review
Didn't have much expectation for this place but the food was actually very delicious with nice flavours and everything was seasoned so well. Favourites were definitely the beef carpaccio and the pork belly. Staff were very polite and accommodating. The only downside is that it's very expensive, too expensive I'd say for the dishes served. The total for 6 dishes came down to around $190 ouch but if you're visiting hobart (dunno why anyone would tbh), worth giving it a try and to splurge a little.

Come here to celebrate birthday, but this js a very noisy place, had to yell to talk. Can’t really hear anything so finish the food in 10 minutes. Steak is juicy, pumpkin is tasty, lamb shoulder is literally flavorless but the lamb meat itself is nice. Very expensive, and didn’t feel like a good meal so we went to have fish and chips after.

Restaurant
Dier Makr is a Michelin star-rated bistro in Amsterdam that specializes in fresh, locally sourced cuisine. The menu is intensely personalised, with each dish given a descriptive name such as "Beetroot" or "Celeriac". The wine list features mostly organic and/or biodynamic wines with minimal additives. The setting is dark and dramatic, with an upbeat and youthful vibe thanks to the enthusiasm of the waitstaff.
Impeccable, faultless meal. Every course was amazing. Fantastic service. Visited on Friday and the food was amazingly fresh and flavourful, and the matching wines and sakes equally so. Would love to return if we get back to Hobart again - recommend.

Sophisticated food served by friendly, down to earth and knowledgeable staff, particularly Chris and Edward who were serving our table through the night. I loved the experimental menu and the stories of where and from whom they had sourced their produce. The non-alcoholic drink pairings were perfectly complementary and so well thought through. My favourite dishes were the crayfish with carrot and tomatoes, and the mackerel with cucumber and macadamia cream. Fantastic experience overall and would absolutely come back again!

Loved our dinner at Dier Makr. The tasting menu and beverage pairing was unexpected and kept us guessing. Delicious and delightful! The service and knowledge of the staff was second to none. We enjoyed sitting at the bar to have full view of the kitchen at work.

We had planned a crawl through some of the fancier bars/restaurants in Hobart and this was one we were really excited about. We were not let down. What a sublime venue. Food and service was like a movie. The staff are attentive and extremely knowledgeable. The food was hard to put into words (Gummy Shark was my fav). Not cheap, but you pay for class. Great work to the team.

Had dinner here on Christmas Eve, and we're still dreaming about the sublime meal. The staff were so friendly and took the time to chat with us even while busy. Each dish was so thoughtfully prepared - they weren't afraid to experiment, and really nailed it. Honestly, everything was delicious, but the squid tentacle broth and seaweed tart with abalone were standouts for me. Can't wait to be back!

Surprisingly unpretentious! Really personal service - I’m not into low intervention wines so our waiter produced some perfect alternatives. Loved the surprise element (no need to choose) for the meals - all perfect. Highly recommend for an enjoyable evening experience.

We visited Dier Makr as a last minute decision, after arriving by Cruise for a couple of days stop over, and are absolutely glad we did. The atmosphere was perfect, and then the 10 course degustation menu, was unbelievable. We love our degustation restaurants, and this will be placed in our TOP 5.

We had an amazing experience with the tasting menu. All dishes were delicious. Service is incredible and they have a chill welcoming vibe without without losing professionalism. Had some wines from Lucinda’s while waiting for the food and that just added more into the experience.

The service was ridiculous poor and lack of professional But I’m don’t care this part much. The food was ok, but nothing more than ok, quite disappointing for a people who came from Melbourne to try this on purpose. The whole waiting time for leading to the dining room also quite confusing and not enjoyable

Impeccable course of food complimented with exceptional service. Dier Maker is next to Lucinda Wine Bar I visited earlier during the week. Every course of the meal is made with local produce. This alone is already quite a unique experience. We had wine pairing with the course. With every plate and wine pairing there is an explanation to them. It is a pleasure to hear the introduction. The lady was also passionate about what they put on the table. Dier Maker is in a bit pricey range so it may not be for everyone. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I don't regret this amazing experience.

Transporting you to another place, with flavour unimaginable. The sake, mushroom, nut combo was indescribable. I only want more. The first three dishes were especially incredible. ✨️ 8 courses. Above a night club, so if you book the 9pm setting you'll hear the doof doof beats.

Thank you for an amazing night and incredible experience. Chris was a superstar as he guided us through the well thought out menu and matching wines and sakes. Decor was simple, elegant and retro all thrown in. The attention to detail from the cutlery, pottery and not to forget Dawns tomatoes / quails eggs were on point. Love, love!!
