In the early evening (in August) the sunlight falls beautifully on the cathedral. Next to the cathedral there is the cathedral’s garden that is worth a look. There is an impressive light show (Google Rouen Cathedral Light Show and check the hours - until September 19, 2021). The light show (with two creations) plays twice in succession. We also stayed for the second showing and the big crowd was gone. It felt more like a unique experience.

What a place. Visually stunning, some seriously old stained glass windows. Free entry. They are renovating various parts at the moment - but there is a lot of original architecture which is amazing.

Very pretty on both the inside and out. We visited rollo's tomb and got to take a look at a ceremony, yet, somehow, my feet started burning when i set foot inside. Doesn't that happen for everybody though?

Rouen is a beautiful city in the Normandy region of France. This city although small is one of the prettiest I have ever visited. The cathedral is just one of the city’s rich architecture. The cathedral is imposing and can be seen from various points in the city. It is nice inside but fairly modest than cathedrals and churches in Italy. The surrounding buildings are beautiful. Rouen is a place you have visit to see it for yourself. You can reach here from Paris by train. It is fairly easy to get there by car as well. It’s free entry with a small gift shop inside.

Absolutely stunning cathedral amazing stone decorations/carvings on the outside and the inside of the building Got to admire the detail and pure talent of the stone masons The stained glass is stunning I'm not religious but you really don't have to be to admire and be in awe of this truly beautiful cathedral It's open to the public and free of charge to go inside and look around or pray if you want But it does kindly ask for a voluntary donation.. Please do As this helps preserve this truly important Piece of history for the future Inside it has a number of chapels and tributes to various saints My reason for my venture inside was to see Saint Jeanne of arc as Rouen is steeped in her history But many other saints are prominent inside Words truly do not describe this cathedral and I could go on and on about the stained glass windows The high arc ways that go so high inside The highly carved alters etc.. But one thing I must mention is don't miss the 15th century stone staircase.. So if in Rouen this cathedral is a must see

One of the most famous sights in Rouen, the Cathedral is really imprssive. The building is huge and one of the tallest in Europe. It began to be built nearly 900 years ago, and survived fires, wars, hurricanes, etc. It was painted by Monet and other artists. The entrance is free. You can see tombs of some of the rulers of Normandie inside.

Beautiful church lovely lady in the church shop spoke English very helpful I asked her to open cabinets and she was very helpful. Lovely to see so many lit candles in memoriam. Considering it was badly damaged during the war the restoration has to be admired as it blends in so you really can't tell.

The vast cathedral with notable spires seen across the river from all over the quaint little town. Beautiful is least to say. A must visit if you are walking around Rouen. They do guided tour and price is nominal. Climb up the tower to have a great view of whole city. Walkable distance from city center

Rouen cathedral is a must see when in Rouen, in the summer months , they have an interactive sound and light show beamed onto the front of the cathedral every evening, something which may have Richard the lion heart (buried inside) turning in his grave. The cathedral is grand , with a decent array of normandy medieval tombs and good stained glass. There is, though, something that doesn't quite elevate it to say Amiens cathedral architecturally although the historic tombs more than make up for that in many ways. The light show outside in the evening is well worth a look so do come back to take a look at that too.

With all Cathedral, this is quite different, from other, such as in Paris, Strasbourg and this Rouen tallest center in hight in all France.

OK, this is the historic spot where Joan the Arc was burned at the stake, but in my humble opinion they could choose another architectural style. Joan the Arc Church is an ultra modern church made of concrete, glass and wood standing in the middle of a medieval square with half timbered houses and cobbled streets all around. It looks like an UFO crashed on the square. Adding more to its quirky design is the fact that under the other part of the same roof is a marketplace with fish, meats, fruits and vegetables stalls. That's in fact the old market (Vieux Marche) from medieval era. Interior is very nice, also modern, and I saw such Churches in Berlin, Helsinki, Rio,..etc, but here such design just doesn't fit

Interesting looking building. Surrounded by exceptionally beautiful period buildings occupied as cafes/restaurants and hotels. Did not get to enter church at the time of visit. It is not free to enter compared with other attractions! There is an underground carpark almost next to the church. Good place to park if you want to be in the city centre. Not too expensive.

A modern church , commemorating joan of arc, who was burned to death in this square. The outside is great, almost in tge shape of what I imagine Joan's helmet to be. The inside has tge original 15th century glass inserted into tge windows, and on tge day i went , it was stunning awe inspiring. If you are in Rouen do go and see it (it does shut for lunch, be warned 12-2pm)

It’s a beautiful church located in a pretty square next to the old market. The shape of the building resembles a helmet and it’s quite impressive decorated with the 16th century stained glass. If you’re into history, you should definitely check the place where Jeanne d’Arc was burned at a stake.

I only went here as a tourist, but it is one of the most interesting buildings I have seen. Very calm in mid city, but stunning.

Beautiful church in Rouen. The front gate was closed, but we can come in through the exit door next to it. No ticket is needed, but the had a little box near to the exit door for charity.

Visiting St. Joan of Arc’s Church was a stunning and significant experience. It is absolutely beautiful. We went early in the morning with dramatic cloud covering. Witnessing the location where St Joan of Arc was burned at the stake was emotional.

Truly worth it! We had to wait till 14.00 for the church to open, but wow. We were impressed by its interior design. Be sure to sit in the back and enjoy the silence and beauty of the place, amidst bars and restaurants on the square surrounding the church.

Place du Vieux Marche, or the Old Marketplace square is a historic square in Rouen center. The square is very picturesque with old half timber houses and many artisan shops, cafes and restaurants around. Also, there's a small marketplace with fish, meats, cheese,...etc stalls and a convenient parking lot right beneath it. However, what spoils the whole sight and impression is the ultra modern Joan the Arc Church (read that review).

This area has the most beautiful modern church dedicated to Joan of Arc. It is where she was executed sadly. The church and market (fresh fish, cheeses and fruit) share an undulating roof.

Such a beautiful place! Unique buildings and nice restaurants! Even some vegan places! Sadly one was really expensive and for the other you need a visa to pay.

This square is very historic place. Jean d'arc was executed in this square. A bit later she was canonized by the Pope. Where she was executed they opened a new Church. A stunning place to visit. A handy underground car park brings you up next to the cafes and then it is a picturesque and interesting walk all through the square, into the shopping area and through to the cathedral. Lots of cafes, bars and bistros to relax and take refreshments.

What a beautiful gem of a place! We went on a Sunday got a parking easily (it can be very tough especially on street parking). Theres a big beautiful church in the middle. There is also a very nice indoor stall market (it is covered) which was great as it started raining once we got there. The market has a little bit of everything from fruits to spices and fresh meat. There was also a couple of fresh flowers stalls! It was very nice to walk around!

Fantastic gallery, though a little confusingly laid out. Rooms are numbered but not all and not always logically. Staff helpful and spoke English, there are free lockers on site to store bags too. Art is great with a wide selection of famous artist. Highly recommended

Great museum with a very friendly personnel. We were with little kids who were quite noisy, but the personnel didn't mind and even helped to calm the baby down. Really sweet of them. As for the paintings - it's a very interesting collection, especially the rooms with impressionists and Dutch painters.

Excellent museum, the permanent exhibitions are free to visit. Lots of nice paintings and artwork, even some Monets. A must visit when in Rouen.

Wow - this place would grace any capital not to mind a regional French city. Has a huge range of art from about 15th century to 20th with paintings from well know names such as Velázquez, Carravaggio, Monet etc. And its free to everyone!!!!

Amazing museum with some really notable pieces of artwork. Highly recommended since it is free for everyone. There are even free lockers provided and the staff are very welcoming and nice to the visitors. Expect to spend 1-2 hours here at the least.

Make sure you get the ticket at the front desk. It's free but you still need a ticket. No signs for that and no info on the website about it. No clear entrance line once you get into the museum but someone will show up and ask you about the ticket. Security will check your bag and water bottle is not allowed. A free museum coin will be granted so you can store your things at the storage area downstairs. The whole museum is indoor so feel free to leave your coat, hat, scarf, etc at the storage Most staff at the museum are nice and friendly. I got to chat with two of them, and ask questions about the paintings. They may not know the technical details but they are willing to help and share what they know. (I did speak French with them so not sure how experience might be different for other language speakers) The place seems to be kids friendly. I bumped into a group of kindergarten kiddos and they love to ask my name, who I am, if I am a volunteer ;) The museum's impressionists' collection is worth the visit alone. Doesn't take long to go through the whole two floors. 1-1.5 hours in my opinion

Some rooms like the one with Mpdigliani had no light. On a cloudy day it was very dark to see. Also many important explanatory signs were only in French. Some well known painters were a pleasant surprise

A great place to visit and see how Rouen has influenced artists throughout centuries. The impressionists are the star attractions but I also loved the huge paintings near the end of the tour round. So much to see into them! Plus it's free to get in!

A lovely museum in a lovely park. I enjoyed my 2-hour long visit (permanent collections did not require a ticket). There is a very interesting collection of art, including several works from geniuses like Caravaggio, Velazquez, Ribera and Gericault, as well as less known but none the less interesting Dutch and Flemish artists... and many more. Also the "anamorphose" by Domenico Piola (after a painting by Rubens) was something I've never seen before. The museum is not crowded, so one may enjoy art in a pleasant meditative atmosphere.

Vast range of collections can visited with a free ticket. I recommend to not spend to much time on the first floor and continue to the second. Many pieces from Monet are exhibited there.

We visited on a cool spring day, as part of a day in Rouen. Helpful security/staff took our umbrellas for safe keeping, and pointed us to the cloakroom for the lockers (need 1€ or 2€ coin to close, refunded when opened). The fixed sculpture and painting collection is excellent, and when we were there a David Hockney exhibition, which was very impressive. Our only disappointment was that the cycle parking is in the square outside, consisting of hoops for about 10 bikes, and despite obvious CCTV a Kryptonite lock lying in pieces by the hoops suggested bikes are stolen from there regularly.

If you are in Rouen make a plan and visit this Miseum, the entrance is free and you can have aquick visit of 2.hours at least. Staff is very kind and friendly.

The clock is situated in the very center of Rouen in the same name street leading to the imposing Cathedral. It's undoubtedly a nice piece of art, but it's rather a pass by - one photo stop attraction. Don't expect something like Prague astronomic clock or the Munich City hall one

Iconic structure that you may come across whilst meandering through the beautiful streets of Rouen. It is fairly easy to find. The surrounding buildings are equally beautiful with shops and cafes. Rouen is a very pretty city.

Such a beautiful and grand clock, it has been well preserved and looked after by the city municipality over the years. A very picturesque spot. This place is a must visit if you are in Rouen. Also, note that you need to visit in the day and night time to get picture perfect views of the clock.

Nice 40 mins tour of the clock internals with history of the tower, clock and clock management. Very nice view at top floor! Small stairs so watch out but very worth it!

It's a pretty spot and has an interesting object but best seen early when the crowds are not milling about. Being free and in a walkable place such as Rouen it is a very popular stop. There are plenty of eateries and cafés nearby as well as other shops so it can easily be viewed while on the way to somewhere else.

A visit to the clock tower is well worth it. There is information about the clocks and you get a great view from the top

One of the oldest clocks in France and one of the most famous sights in Rouen. It is located on the busy street leading to the Cathedral with lots of shops in the area. It is really beautiful with a lot of details and symbols. Don`t miss the visit of the interior if you want to see the mechanisms and a different perspective of the city. The audioguide is very informative about the history of the clock and Rouen.

A remarkable combination of multimedia and physical experience on the storied life and trials of Joan of Arc. A shame that in booking tickets online you are forced to create an account; which proves to be near impossible to have deleted afterwards. Save yourself from that bitter aftertaste and buy your tickets in person instead.

If you want to go from room to room watching a video of her life, than to will like this museum. I would rather not have gone. Nice views from the upper levels

Wonderful place to visit. They tell the history and story of Jeanne d'Arc (Joan of Arc) clearly and interestingly. For non French speakers, you are given a free translator headset, which works well. I highly recommend a visit here. It will be an hour of your life well spent. You will walk away understanding why Jeanne d'Arc is, quite rightly, so adored and respected in France. The views from the top of the building are also spectacular.

Very interesting tour, even though it takes 1h 30min, it doesn't feel that long! The rooms (historical!), projections and stories are amazing! If you are not a native French speaker, I recommend highly to use the audioguides! They have short clips of old movies and sometimes the accoustics make it hard to really understand everything.

Honestly one of the coolest little museums I’ve been to! Uses really cool tech to tell the story of Joan of Arc. It’s worth the admission price, but also takes some time (1.5 hr) so be prepared!

If you visit rouen you should also check this museum out. Really interesting and informative.

Very interesting experience and worth a visit. It is important to note that the experience talks about a retrial of Jeanne d'Arc and not the actual trial. Well presented experience, involved climbing stairs and moving between rooms.

The content was very good, however, I found the English language translation system very disappointing and nearly unusable (June 2023). In each room audio speakers play the French language version out loud. The English language system uses headphones that do not cover the ears so they have to compete with the audio in the room, making it very difficult to hear the version from the headphones. I suspect switching to over-the-ear headphones would help matters.

Excellent recreationof the trail.Audio in French , describing the proceedings and testimony was broadcast in the room, simultaneously played through your head set in your language of choice.You moved from room to room. Images were played with the chief players parts reinacted.Culminating in a steep climb up the turret to the top.This bit not for peeps using sticks or with breathing issues.

I enjoyed the experience. There is an interesting chapel room at the end of the tour.

The tour last 75min but you can stay more if you want to see every detail properly. Take an audio guide and enjoy!

This was excellently done! As an American coming to Rouen, there's a lot to enjoy even in the off-season, and this museum was a "maybe if there's time" for me. I'm SO glad there was time. It's really well put together. It gives you an in-the-moment feel of the Joan of Arc's trial. It's right in the heart of everything else as well in a beautiful building. It's about an hour and a half of your day, and it's well spent.

Quite boring and slow given that you need to follow a tour either listening to the French audio in the guided tour or using the headset although many languages are available. Too expensive for what it is.

Pros: we parked by the river on a paid parking lot, from there it is around 10-minute walk to the museum, the entrance fee is adequate, the toilet is for free, a large part of the museum is done in the form of a video guide, it's nice, but a bit long, especially for small children, although you will learn Joan's story, it could be shortened, at the end you can see several rooms and artifacts, there is also a small shop with souvenirs, overally it takes almost 1,5 hour to visit the museum because of long videos, Cons: the original French audio is mixed with English from earphones, it is difficult to concentrate on one or the other audio, a large part of museum is devoted to the video-story and only a little to the artifacts

A must see in Rouen, Yadegar Aziz and his team has done an amazing work visualizing the city Rouen in an breathtaking artwork. It give the visitor the feeling it is reliving Rouen from centuries ago

I recommend purchasing the combo ticket for the Panaroma XXL and the more interactive Historial Jeanne D'Arc museum for €15. This giant silo houses an incredibly detailed panorama painting of what Rouen would have looked liked in 1431.

During Covid pandamic the allow only 50 people inside at the same time. Therefore, they send us away twice while they let still in who have booked online. 🤔 So, if you are eager to get inside, an online booked ticket is recommended. Although, I have to say, the reduced priced to 5€ is very tempting...

The Titanic display at the Panorama was simply marvellous. We spent ages in there. Highly recommended.

Very nice experience. The intro was just good to get into the subject and have a better understanding of what you're about to view. The main part was really impressive. Go there while you still can.

Newly opened gallery. I am not really fan of paintings but the panorama paint was fascinating. I spent quite a bit of time there. It really feels like you are spending time and enjoying the vibe at the square...

Very interesting cemetery where plague dead and others were buried. Due to lack of space previous burials were dug out and the bones placed on overhead galleries around the cemetery. A major project is underway to restore the buildings so views are restricted at the moment.

This was a cemetery in the Middle Ages but little is to be seen of that except the decoration on the walls of the court and a mummified cat in a glass window. It has then become a school and now it seems to be a meeting spot for art activities. There are boards explaining the history of the place. Unluckily the restaurant was closed as we visited.

Quick visit, surprisingly it was open on Tuesday while google suggested it wasn’t. Worth a stop.

Very nice courtyard with a cafe. I recommend you go look at the pottery expo as well as the "atelier" next to it! They have a "free pottery box" of pots they didn't think about selling, so that is fun (bowl in the picture was f r e e )

The Place is the most authentic time machine, ever. And the heart of the historic Old Rouen. St. Maclou Catholic Church itself an underrated gem - because everyone focuses on the Cathedral - but those who are architecture conscious a real treat, among other remarkable buildings in Place Barthélémy! A true gem of old Rouen! A must visit church with stunning Gothic architecture.

Rouen has three outstanding Churches: the imposing Rouen Cathedral, the Saint-Ouen Abbey and this one - St. Maclou Church. You cannot tell which one's more beautiful, so I suggest visiting all three. This makes no special effort at all, as all of them are in a 1 km radius, literally 7, 8 min walk one from another.

This hotel has a great location in the center of the historic district of Roeun and from the outside is impressive- however I don’t think this should qualify as an “Autograph Collection” Marriott. The inside of the hotel could be described with a single word- “tired”. The lobby looks like a hybrid of something you would see in Tony Montanas house in Scarface with a dated Airport lounge. The colors chosen are a blood red mixed with black and spots of chrome/faded gold throughout completely undermine the historical attractiveness of the property. While the reception desk had friendly staff- the breakfast was disappointing as was room service with almost no options to choose from. We were upgraded to a suite which took 2 elevators and 4 long hallways to get to… this all said it’s still probably the nicest hotel in Roeun.

In 30 m from the moment we arrived in Rouen, they solved our parking problem, brought surprises for the children, took care of us in a good room and brought all the luggage. Wonderful service, perfect location, recommended hotel.

This was an amazing hotel right in the city center of Rouen. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance and some within the hotel. It’s a very stunning castle like hotel with tons of history. Parking was kind of a nightmare though during construction there is no where to park. I had to wave down the concierge to help me after driving around a bit. They have automatic bollards that drop to get into the hotel. The rooms are very large. The only issue we had was they turn off the air conditioning and switch to heat. The night we were there it was in the high fifties and sleeping was very difficult. We were able to request a fan. The concierge who accompanied me to our rooms gave me a tour of the restoration work being done which was very cool.

Hotel offers a spa and free indoor pool with sauna. Very popular with guests. Also, an excellent breakfast buffet. Special thanks to the hotel staff. All very warm and professional (Teo Lacoste, Clara, Leopoldine, Timothy, and Valentine). Great Cathedrals, restaurants, and shopping. Joan of Arc Chapel is fantastic.

Its a beautiful hotel, inside and out and the valet parking was easy and efficient. The rooms are well decorated and a bit tired, but normal due to waer and tear. Our only problem was noise. The rooms on the courtyard side are meant to be the quiest. (Reception told me this when I asked to change rooms). However the courtyard acts as an amplifier and if people are out there it sounds like they are in your room. Also because of the beauty of the courtyard people and kids come and go constantly to look at the architecture, hence more noise. I would suggest bringing earplugs, like we did.

Gorgeous historic hotel located right in the center of the best of Rouen. The rooms are dated but public spaces, spa, fitness center, have all clearly seen a renovation. The spa offering is fantastic - massive pool, and great additional facilities such as dry and wet sauna. Our room unfortunately didn't have working A/C or WiFi, but the hotel was able to take care of us accordingly and to our satisfaction. The breakfast is really fantastic - great selection. Huge thank you to Thomas, Maxime, and Aglie for the hospitality and making our short stay so memorable.

The hotel is in a great location and the staff are very courteous and helpful. Being a Bonvoy member, I have stayed in many Autograph hotels across the world and I found the rooms, aesthetics and upkeep of this hotel to be subpar to others. The room was outdated and needed a lot of updates. Chipped paint, discolored grout, clogged sink, stuffy smell to mention a few. After a shower the bathroom and whole room got so humid and wet it was unbearable. Again the front desk staff and everyone we interacted with was extremely polite and nice. However, I would probably choose a different hotel for my next stay in Rouen.

Great location and friendly staff. Live music at the bar was too loud and not quite good. Nice cocktails. The outdoor terrace was very cozy. Was disappointed about the coffee in the room as for a 5 star hotel instant coffee bags shouldn’t be acceptable. Pool area was big and well maintained. Again, for a 5 star hotel more quality checks should be made like the WC door and the bed creaked.

We checked into the Hôtel de Bourgtheroulde and they parked our car for us. It was quite early so as we expected our room was not ready. They provided an excellent recommendation for lunch and we were within walking distance of all of the city's most iconic landmarks. We returned to the hotel to find that our luggage was already in our room - a room that was quite large especially by European standards. After a relaxing evening we enjoyed a fine buffet breakfast and we were ready to continue our travels. The Hôtel de Bourgtheroulde exceeded expectations - a great visit.

One of my favorite hotels! I love the castle and the very welcoming staff. If you can get a room with view of the courtyard, it will be perfect. The beds are so comfy, service is excellent. We bumped into the hotel manager on our way in. He not only welcomed us but also warmly gave us his card for anything we needed during our stay. How sweet is that?! The staff are super attentive. I literally had a hotel staff in my room within 30sec of my call inquiry about bedding- this nearly never happens in other Marriott hotels. The staff proactively took our luggage for us into the room and loaded to our car when we were leaving - super attentive to all the details. Made great recommendations for places to visit, places to eat… Arh I can’t say enough how great this hotel is! Happy travels

The Saint-Ouen Abbey is a typical Norman style Abbey we saw many of on our Normandy-Brittany tour. It stands in central Rouen next door to the City Hall. This one in Rouen stands out in its grandeur and Gothic beauty, with amazing attention to details. Astonishing exterior and typical interior with great stained glass and tall arches inside

Currently under renovation, so it’s pretty empty inside. Still, there are plenty of beautiful stained glass windows, statues/carvings, and some interesting wooden artifacts to look at. The ceilings in particular are amazing— huge! The info desk has explanations of the church’s history and design in multiple languages, including English and German as well as the expected French. If you can read French, there’s more info pamphlets and things to enjoy.

I recommend that you come to the back of the church, where you will get a nice view from the garden (you can also sit down for snack or refil your bottle with the water provided by the city)

It really is an amazing building to wander round.

I was honored to visit this church that was build between 15th and 16th centuries. There is a lot to learn about the history of that church, how it was designed, built, destroyed (by the vikings) and rebuild after the war.
