A Time Capsule brining you 1000 years back. We had the chance to be there on Halloween and the « route de rhum » festival.

“O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming...” This a nice way to use the word and an interesting place to visit: Les Remparts de St. Malo, a walk along the top of the tall granite walls that circle the charming village of St. Malo in Brittany. Imagine the medieval life, admire the Gothic and Romanesque town cathedral, step down the stairs to enjoy crepes washed down by cider. Wear a hat, take time to reminisce and appreciate the historical magnitude of how the allies were able to conquer the town back to the French. In the summer bring a swimsuit or hat, or both, otherwise bring an umbrella.

Very unique place. You have to visit it! Definitely worth to see!

The Remparts are rich with history and beautiful 360° views. Do yourself a favor if you're in the région go to Saint-Malo.

A charming small town on the English Channel, one hour drive from Rennes. My visit was short, only a few hours in the afternoon, but I managed to take a stroll along its fortification walls. The view over the sea was stunning. The tide was coming fast. The weather offered good conditions for kite surfing. What started as a sunny afternoon finished in a windy and cold evening. Quite typical in Brittany.

Les Remparts de Saint-Malo are a granite wall that surrounds the city, built from the 12th century. I really liked the panoramic view of the sea, the baby islands, the beach and the historic buildings of the city. 👍 I enjoyed walking along the ramparts, which are about 2 km long and have several access points. I learned a lot about the history and culture of Saint Malo, the city of corsairs and writers. The ramparts are well preserved and restored and have some interesting features such as cannons, statues, towers and guardhouses. 🌟 I give 5 stars to this attraction, which is a must-see for anyone visiting Saint-Malo. It is a great way to discover the charm and beauty of this fortified city. I recommend it

A perfect and nice place for a walk, dinning, and relaxation

Saint-Malo is an incredible place and a must-visit in France!

The aquarium was an adventure! It is a good option for all ages. It offers a great educational experience and also a sensory experience since there are stations where you can actually touch the animals. They divide the aquarium is different sections that host different species from a specific area. There is information available in both, French and English. You can easily spend 2 hours walking around and participating in the activities offered, such as the submarine immersion. It is well organized so you will definitely enjoy it. I’d suggest visiting early because it can get crowded. Bring your snacks, get your camera ready (without flash) and spend a lovely day learning!

Great aquarium with a lot of different species that you can observe, we went early in the morning which was perfect because it wasn't to crowded, they have 2 little rides at the end of your visit that are quite fun just remember to keep a hold on your ticket because they will ask you for it to ride them.

Awesome aquarium that has a very interesting take on being an aquarium. Lots of fish and exhibits including a hands on exhibit with rays, an underwater aquarium tour, and various other attractions. Well worth the visit!

Wonderfully restaurated! What a fun experience, the halls are spacious, as are the aquariums. There has gone a lot of work in this place. It even has a submarine bit. It's amazing 10/10 would visit again, if only to pet the rays.

Great spot for families. Price was good and there was lots. to see and keep children entertained. Highly recommended for tourists. The touch tank is fabulous being able to touch rays. The underwater ride was entertaining .

Very interesting aquarium. Whoever designed it did so in a way that you feel immersed in the water along with the sea creatures. Wide variety of species. Interesting for all ages. The line is shorter if you have your ticket in advance.

Recently remodelled and refurbished. Excellent facilities, interesting and educational with interactive sections too. The Abyssal descender was good fun while the Nautisub was a fantastic end to the visit. £15 each was not expensive for what is a great day out. We spent over 3 hours here, but with young kids that could easily be 4 or 5.

We thought we had seen everything you could see in the various aquariums we visited around the world but a rainy day drew us to this one, which had the reputation of being one of the largest in France. It is actually really good, with many things we had not seen before. So definitely worth visiting if you are around!

Very cute and familiy friendly aquarium with really good showrooms. Interisting charts and authentic aquariums. Even a big outdoor-bassin is also on site. No need to a forehand online ticket download. It is not too overrunned. Especially for families with children a very good place to go - maybe on a rainy day...

I liked to see so many different fish. However, it was too crowded, in some places smelled of toilet, and the price is quite high as for such experience. Some of the fish were bitten and bleeding, clearly suffering

Nice sized aquarium, nothing huge, but it has a good collection of various ocean creatures, it's set up very well, especially for kids. This is a great place to spend a couple of hours. The underwater submarine ride is really worth it!

Great experience on a rainy day. The aquarium with its 360 degree tank is amazing. The highlight and fun part is the Abyssal Descend and the Nautibus.

One of the best aquariums I have been to. The visit of the aquarium is also supported by local and sailor legends which my children enjoyed. The explanations are in English and French. The place is super well taken care of and there are even some attractions I have never seen in an aquarium, such as being in your own "submarine" to see fish as if you were in the sea or a deep abyss simulator. There is also a place where one can touch fish. Finally the ring with the sharks was a highlight of the aquarium. Like I said, one of the best aquariums and we were more than happy to support them at the very nice gift store. Good job guys, continue the hard work! We could see how much you love sea animals.

Place to feel the ocean

Grande Plage du Sillon is the largest beach and was voted the most beautiful beach in France in 2018. It stretches over three kilometers of fine sand and connects two neighborhoods of the city - Intra-Muros and Parame. During high tide, the beach completely disappears, and during low tide, it becomes a very wide beach.

At 3 km long, it is the largest sandy beach in Saint-Malo. The dike was built from 1883 to 1913 on an old sandy beach. With a length of 1671 meters, it runs along the Grande plage lined with numerous villas built at the end of the 19th century. Along the Sillon, a line of breakwaters protects the dike from the force of the waves. Built at the beginning of the 19th century, the oaken breakwaters have a depth at least equal to or even greater than their visible height.

What a bliss from nature! The tidal difference was a spectacular to observe. Tides schedule could be found online. Was cold & windy at night even during mid-summer.

A delightful experience, I think that the entrance price of €2.50 is symbolic, this place is really worth visiting. The view is also very beautiful and a big plus is the beach at the foot of the statues. If you are the type of person who doesn't like crowds, this is the ideal place

Sculptures on the rocks. you need to pay 2.5€ / person because the entrance to the rocky beach is 'private'. Note the access is quite steep and if it is raining it could be slippery and dangerous. Lastly, you will not need to spend more than 5' to take some photos, at least this is what I did :)

Just a tiny bit disappointed, the sculptures are just a few and we paid €2.5 each. Really small beach and isn’t much to do once you climbed down. I took some fantastic shots with the dog and that was it. There is a cafe which is really basic, but nice view

We were disappointed with this site. It was very small, we paid 2.50€ for the entrance fee and there was very little information about the history or meaning of the sculptures. We stayed there for about 10 minutes then decided to leave. Lovely views but not the best site to see...

Beautiful location off the beaten path from St Malo. A couple of euro entrance fee and very small. Just the one rock that has the Sculptured Rocks on it. Great views and a very nice area, worth a look if you're in St Malo or nearby but limited to visit as a stand alone day out. The nearby town has some nice places to get food and drink. There is an expensive terrace restaurant (Benedit) overlooking this

A beautiful beach with oysters and shells. There are rock-cut sculptures that blend in with the overall landscape. Nice place for a short stop.

Not so nice as his other “see brothers” but which much more interior things to see. Great view for a bay an canal. If you already on the walls don’t miss this one.

If the France flag is on the castle means it’s open to public to visit. However even visit the beach is fun.

Of all the islands around Saint-Malo this one gets accessible first at low tide. The guided visit of the fort costs 5 euros (end of August 2023). Two year ago they filmed here Three Mousqueteers.

Very nice castle on the bay. You can walking to the castle only when there is low tide. This is an ancient guard castle to defense the city from sea attack, so there are cannons inside. There is a large grass for resting, it's also beautiful for child who want to run. In the sunny days is a very spectacular place for taking pictures. It's important so pay attention at the tides, if you don't want wet your shoes..

Great day trip to make to St. Malo. I would have like to stay for another day though. All views are expectacular! I'm definetly going back.

Very nice fort to take a look at, especially with the guide. For other languages than English there is a translated copy. Entry costs 4€ and you can only pay by cash. Plan about 1 hour for the tour. You can only go there when the tides are low and there is a french flag visible.

The fort is only open from June till Sept. However still impressive and can be walked to at low tide.

Ancient Cathedral in Saint-Malo. It's not too big, but there is amazing stain glass. The visit is very short and free.

Usually I don't like churchs so much, but this one is nice and, strange for a Gothic build, quite positive inside, with his colorful windows and golden paints. I liked it, even if I will not come back to visit it again. Amen.

I visited it today; it has very beautiful stained glass windows. It was damaged at the end of World War II, but in the 1970s, it was restored. Guided tours are available for free, and admission is also free.

The town is very cute and a should visit one. You can enjoy both of the city and the sea in the other side at the same place.

Amazing huge Roman Catholic Cathedral in saint-Malo. It got really damaged in the II. World War by the Germans but beautifully restored.

It was very beautiful inside. However, as a Canadian and Quebecoise, I wish they gave more context to Jacques Cartier. Yes, he was the first Europeans to explore/map Canada, but he certainly didn't "discover" it (Indigenous Peoples have been here since time immemorial). He is a man with a complicated legacy and we must be careful with how he is memorialized.

A lovely place for quiet prayer, filled with some truly moving artwork and modern liturgical bronzes

The cathedral is really just as beautiful and serene as the pictures seem. The tinted windows, I find, are the highlight of the cathedral and the best I've ever seen. I visited when there weren't a lot of visitors, a few tourists groups but the place was so very quiet and peaceful.

Good for a short stay. Easy walk to the town and beach. Pitches generally open spaced with no clear boundaries. Bit tight getting through the narrow streets to the site. No water taps anywhere except at the wash block??? Very rare for French campsites.... not sure why? Office staff very friendly.

I was apprehensive having read some of the comments. However very friendly reception, touring cyclist pitches very reasonable price considering the location in town. Was camping in the last week of June. About ten other touring cyclists and plenty space and level areas we're sufficient although this may not be the case in peak season. Facilitiies were fine. Free WiFi. Food caravan at entrance selling breakfast.

Loved our stay, few minutes from beach, 15 mins from walked city. War memorials next to site. Lots of camping spots, plenty of space. Friendly staff. Toilets and showers and cleaning facilities old but clean.. Warm water.. Need your own soap and loo roll. Extended our stay... Lots to see and do... Thank you

Beautiful camp site right next to a great historic fort memorial. Many camp sites on a hill but not too steep. Nice clean showers and good washing facilities with laundry!

Left us stranded with nowhere to stay. Be very cautious about booking. We booked this campsite but struggled with paying the deposit – we tried to call to pay it as advised but we never able to get through as we just received a recorded message and then got cut off. We subsequently asked for bank details which they gave us and transferred the deposit, but never heard anything back from them despite requesting confirmation that they had received it. Ultimately with just a few days to go they stopped replying to emails and luckily we were able to book somewhere else at considerable cost. I have no idea what the actual campsite is like but I would highly recommend not booking this if you’re from the UK.

Brilliant location, easy walk into StMalo intra muros. Good-sized pitches, mostly sloping. Showers/loos fine, very clean. Decent shop and visiting vendors. Good value for such a prime spot. Be sure to request a pitch on the North side if you like peace&quiet (road splits the site in two)- we stayed again 2 weeks later (16th june) on the south side. There is an outdoor bar with music on this side, which is fine, not too loud and finishes at 10pm, but everyone walks through the site to get to it. They take a long time to leave and are not quiet in doing so; also using the site toilets, or sometimes hedges.

Location is outstanding and the people at reception are really nice, but that’s it for me. The places are not separated by bushes or something. So in high season it feels like everyone is on top of each other. The number of showers for women is only 3, the men also have 3 showers. That’s for the whóle camping! Come on! And to top it of: showers and toilets are not clean. My bar is low, so that’s saying something.

Well equipped and good scenic location with a range of pitches, some of them level. Staff are a bit laid back, but friendly enough. Handy shop for essentials, nearest boulanger a bit of a treck (but OK for cycling) "La Mie Câline" at Place Bouvet

Amazing spot for access to the city. And great views. Super busy in July but wasn’t noisy at night when we stayed. They were flexible in finding us a bike/tent spot despite being very busy.

Lovely campsite if you are staying in St Malo. Spacious pitches. Reasonably level. Good clean facilities with average quality showers that were free to use though remember to take your own loo roll when dashing to the toilet. Short walk to the port and a snack bar on site. Make sure you take time to explore the fort/memorial nearby. Really lovely.

A really good campsite for lots of reasons, walking distance of St Malo, plenty of beaches nearby and a great view from campsite. Good reception, old fashioned sanitaries but clean and plenty for size of campsite. Food trucks and a lovely bar on the site. We recommend.

Unbeatable location within walking distance to St Malo and the ferries. Situated on a peninsula next to fortress ruins. Very old school vibe camping, more about location than attractions. The tent camping area has plenty of trees and feels quite natural. Unfortunately bar was closed during our stay in late September but everything else open, with nightly food trucks. Some basic cooking facilities for tent campers. Also some good bars and restaurants a short walk away, especially la cancalais near the Soledor tower. Relaxed and quiet place with lots of diversions on your doorstep.

Good place for walk in to St Malo.Was closing for winter was last night of bar being open when there was still plenty of people around. Very tight for motorhomes in the streets.

The position and size of this site is genuinely awesome. Just the incredible history snd/or views on and all the way around the site is incredible. From WW2 fort and steel gunnery 'mushrooms' to the old roman fort on the site. A very pleasant 45min walk around the harbour to the awesome walled old town. This is the only camping site in the lovely St Malo. However, the run down and dirty shower blocks, just one fresh water tap over the sink that people wash their clothes in and especially the single toilet cassette dump right in the middle of the pavement next to the visiting food van should really be sorted!!

The good: really nice and strategic position, over a rock peninsula just 15 mins from the center of St-Malo. Good spaces. That's it unfortunately... The bad: it's almost unmanaged... Very dirty sanitary rooms, not cleaned for two days. No service (toilet paper, soap, no places to stand dresses, nécessaire, nothing). In and out without surveillance. During our stay (June 29), a crazy couple go on screaming until 4 a.m. No one was there to keep the camping quite. Unacceptable.

It's a nice, historic house but it's inhabited and so it cannot be visited in its entirety. It was an okayish experience but would not repeat it. The owner is either a historian or very passionate about (local) history and takes tourists around the house, providing details about French corsairs and their sea interactions with the English and the Spanish. He doesn't like to be contradicted or challenged.

Excellent visit with a well informed, funny, entertaining, engaging and patient guide who made history come to life by telling us surprising stories, enacting scenes and revealing secrets of times gone by + answering lots of questions and giving plenty of explanations and details. Despite the house itself and displays being limited to several rooms, the visit was made memorable and enriching; the corsairs suddenly seemed approachable and their adventures intertwined with day to day life, were described with insightful and rich historical background. The rise and fall and rise again of the town of Saint Malo makes for a fascinating story. A very enjoyable visit (in French) that I would highly recommend.

Old beautiful resturant.

Condor voyager from France is much better and nicer than the liberation from Poole. No proper guidance and instructions for foot passengers on both sides and we also had a very long delay on both sides. Based on voyager ferries 4 stars but liberation from Poole is a maximum 3 Star.

Voyager is a large (97m) RORO vehicle and passenger ferry operating between GB and France and the Channel Islands. Quite nice passenger seating areas, very comfortable and there are 2 or 3 cafes. Currency is GBP. Propulsion is via 4 giant water jets and we sat mostly at 33kts or 63kph, supposedly it can do around 40kts? A bit of vibration for some reason? However don’t be late, not even by a couple of minutes, the bureaucratic robotic check in staff won’t take any excuses. Was a 5 star review but I’ve taken a star off for the staff being so officious.

Nice and fast boat. No need to rush to get there an hour before boarding, they do accept "late" customers up to 20 minutes before departure. Easy boarding. Inside the ferry, the food is not too overpriced. Nice ride, shorter than we thought. Only problem : pets are not accepted on board although we pay extra for them ! They stay in the car while we (humans) enjoy a walk, go to the loo, have a drink. How unfair is that ? I wish we knew that before booking... (and I wish the staff was more friendly when they told me she had to stay an hour and a half in the car. English speaking staff was lovely but the French one was quite rude !)

Did a day trip to saint Malo from Jersey but not sure I'd recommend it. Saint Malo is stunning (we'd been before) but the day trip involved lots of queuing and confusion at the terminals, and being told to arrive far too early at the saint Malo Terminal by condor staff which spoiled our afternoon. I'd strongly suggest doing an overnight in Saint Malo instead.

Our 1st time using Condor Ferries, St Malo via a few hours in Guernsey to Poole. Overall, Condor provided a very good and relatively economical option to our usual trip up to the Channel Tunnel. Onward travel to the North of England from Poole was less hassle than using the M20, Dartford Tunnel and M25

We were quite impressed, very clean facilities, meal was good, coffee was a little nutty. The entertainment on the overnight crossing to St Malo was not entertaining.

Booked with condor ferries for a day trip to St Malo from Jersey..Good points...Easy to book online...easy check-in spotlessly clean boat...Bad points..waiting times at departure both sides and 1 hour and 25 mins journey talk about the slow boat to China..checked speed in MPH on phone app.35 MPH!!! I know boat speed is measured in knots but MPH is easier to relate to.

Of the five different ferries we went on in the spring/summer of 2022 this was the least satisfactory for many reasons. The check in went smoothly but on the boat we found that there were comfortable seats for resting in the private area for the crew but the passenger seats were basically airline seats. The food was meager and unappetizing - especially compared to DFDS. We were never made aware that we would be walking outside to go through customs. It was pouring rain when we arrived in Jersey and there were elders walking with canes and in wheelchairs along with the rest of us walking to the terminal building - unsafe and unnecessary when there was a covered walkway on the pier just a few feet away! The whole experience felt like there was little to no care for the comfort or well being of passengers.

A wonderful, even extraordinary hotel. One feels as comfortable as in a second home. The furnishings are elegant and modern, the cleanliness of the rooms is excellent. The staff is very courteous, charming, discreet and professional throughout. We had one of the best holidays ever here and will definitely be back. Breakfast was also very special: a great selection of food of very high quality, especially the dreamy bread and the crèpes/pancakes as well as the fine cakes deserve special mention here. The in-house gourmet restaurant is also highly recommended for lunch/dinner.

The room was nice, but we had issues with the shower leaking. No big deal, but we felt bad for house keeping getting wet towels everyday. The staff was extreme helpful, and knowledgeable. The hotel restraunt is very nice, although we only ate breakfast there.

I was satisfied with my stay, but was spoiled by a charge that I did not remember seeing. Although we stayed on a plan that included breakfast, we were told that we would have to settle the bill upon check-out. We told them that we were not satisfied with the fact that we had to pay for a plan that included everything, but they insisted that we had to pay. Both we and the other party had difficulty communicating with each other in English, which is not our native language, and we decided that it would be difficult to continue further communication on the spot, so we made the payment once. Afterwards, we checked the reservation details again with Agoda, and confirmed with Agoda that since the plan included breakfast, no payment would be incurred upon check-out. We emailed the hotel to that effect and requested that they provide us with a statement from their official website, but they never responded at all. We are outraged at the response, which is not very like a four-star hotel. Finally, Agoda also supported us and said that this cost was due to the fact that we requested a twin room. I was not told that there would be an additional charge, and I don't remember agreeing to it, but I cried myself to sleep because I thought further correspondence would be a waste of my time. I would never recommend staying at this hotel, which demands unclear payment and treats its customers with disrespect, which I do not believe a four-star hotel should have done. I highly recommend requesting a list when you are asked for a payment you don't remember seeing. In addition, I have not heard from them personally in response to any of my inquiries via email or their official website, which I do not consider to be a sensible response. -------------------------- Update. you want me to call you? Shouldn’t you be the ones to call me first? No comment from Agoda, huh? They should stop playing dumb. They have no right to say that, since they never replied to my emails, and even ignored the questions I posted on the official website. As readers may have realized if you are smart, these people are not trustworthy as hoteliers or business people. Since the hotel is run by these people, I can’t expect any great service. I don't see a shred of sincerity in your remarks, nor any sense of dignity as a hotel. Who in the world would give this hotel a 4-star rating? Are they insane?

We had a simply wonderful stay. The beds are so comfortable, I haven't slept so well in months. Our room, 109, overlooks the quiet square. I can appreciate the attention to detail with USB charging and bedside lights. One odd thing is the bathroom door: it's a semitransparent swing door that doesn't insulate sounds very well, so you had best be rather comfortable with your partner! The spa seems popular, so book in advance. Breakfast is PHENOMENAL and evening cocktails in the bar are superb.

We stopped here on Tuesday for a drink on the terrace. There were only a few other people there. Manager (or similar) came out and took our order. Returned with the drinks and placed them on the table without any further words. Seemed very stressed even though at that stage we were the only customers on the terrace. On the plus side the toilets were clean and the lobby is gorgeous (if you do visit make sure to look up).

The Golden Tulip le Grand Be is a really Nice hotel in the center of Saint Malo. The service at the hotel was really good. It was a little funny that the toilet and bathroom was seperated. The breakfast was okay but did not match the price level for the rooms. All in all a good stay at The Golden Tulip🙂

Second time I have stayed here after being at the 24 hours of le mans, absolutely love this hotel absolutely beautiful clean rooms fantastic food and absolutely fantastic staff where nothing is too much trouble and a very reasonable price considering it's the height of the season, will definitely be back again soon

Excellent! The hotel is beautiful and well situated, and has private parking with electric vehicle charging. The restaurant was the best we visited in St Malo and has a good selection including vegetarian options. We had a standard room which was fine; the bathroom was better than in most hotels. We will stay here again!

A nice stay in this four star property in St Malo. The total room price we paid was not low. (Perhaps St Malo is an expensive place to visit.) The room was Ikea-styled with efficient use of space. The shower strength was excellent. There are some hiccups though. The pillow provided was too soft, and I requested the front desk constantly for additional pillows for better neck support. They acknowledged the request but the pillow was not forthcoming over the entire stay. Also, the bathroom amenities such as the shower gel and shampoos were not replenished daily during housekeeping but were promptly provided by the housekeeping staff when approached. The breakfast buffet spread quality is outstanding - one of the best pastries and bread I have eaten during our current holiday in France. The location of this hotel is very good, right smack in the old town. As avid photographers, we greatly appreciate this perk.

The walking path to this fort is easy once you have low tide. Just make sure to check the opening timing sometimes they change the opening hours.

Good to look at, but can’t go inside on the day I visited. You can walk up to the front gate during low tide to get a higher view of the surroundings, but grand be has the better views.

At the end of the 17th century, maritime warfare between the French, English and Dutch wreaked havoc. In the heart of this economic and military battle, Saint-Malo was on the way to become the main port of France. So it became urgent to defend the famous corsair city whose strategic position was of first importance. For this purpose, Louis XIV commissioned the architect Vauban to implement a military defense. A really great place, safe clean beach bathing for all, children loved it! Sandy with rock outcrops. Hard to believe it was all bombed so intensively in the second world war!
