What a fascinating place,pulled in to take a look on my way back from York, they are doing massive restoration work on the hall at moment, but there is still loads to see, but I will definitely go in a few months time to see how works progressing. Judging by how many people were there today,it must be a very popular place to visit,it was stacked out,there was some great furniture and tapestry's to look at,as well as the superb grounds.

It is a very interesting place historically. Great guides and an informative talk before entering the house. Lots of seating in the house for those less able, but there's a lot of stairs to negotiate! The gardens are beautiful again with plenty of places to sit and take in the views. The cafe was good, and my friend and I had a delicious sausage bap... We are sampling them at each National Trust property we visit...so far, so good and very consistent. There are also a few walks that you can do if you have the time.

First time we have visited £17 each which included going in the house, the gardens and the parking and the old hall which has recently been reopened, absolutely beautiful and the gardens were well kept with an abundance of beautiful flowers, the butterfly's and Bee grab a bite van, eat indoors or outdoors on the lawn or the court yard. Mainly on the flat so wheelchair access is good for grounds and ground floor of house, we walked down to the lake but this wouldn't be accessable for wheelchairs or buggies. The coffee shop offered a good selection of all kinds of food and drink and ice cream, so if you haven't been get yourself over there as you won't be disappointed.

Lots of space and walks to enjoy. The walled gardens are breathtaking, with open spaces, wild areas, a knot garden and an allotment, all with seating dotted about. We visited during the summer holidays so there was a field at the back of the hall for the "summer of play" with lots of activities for children of all ages. Tennis and badminton, an obstacle course, a mini football field, archery, a bamboo marble run, and even a safe toddler space with giant bean bags and slide were all available at no additional cost. Didn't get to see much more as our children loved the activities, but the map shows lots more to see. Can't wait for our next visit.

A great place to visit for lots of interesting history. Self-guided tours, but there are lots of knowledgeable and friendly volunteers throughout. Visitors can ask them questions and find out more about the house, its contents, and the people who lived there. There are also information cards for each room. Plenty of parking available.

We visited on a behind the scenes tour ot the attic and it was worth every penny. We were taken into the attic by a volunteer guide who was extremely knowledgeable about the house and some of the items we were shown. The attic is a place that you would not normally see in this Elizabethan house as a visitor. Some items that we were shown never go on display due to been very fragile. On part of the tour we were shown the current exhibition which is part of the National Trust's 125 year anniversary celebrations. We also got an in depth talk about the main entrance hall in to the house. We are National Trust members so only paid for the tour.

Hardwick Hall is on our doorstep, and we love to visit at different times of the year. Today was fabulous, the new Hall lovely as ever. The old Hall, is being preserved through English Heritage funding, so inaccessible. But still viewable from the path. The gardens as always are beautiful, even though they are in mid transition and planting at this time in May. We had good luck with the weather for the garden 😀 and had another great day 😀

Stunning house with an impressive story about its amazing lady owner. Car park looked pretty full but it wasn’t busy at all! Entrance to the house could be a little better signposted but we made it and walking past old Hardwick Hall was really interesting too! Deckchairs set out around the gardens so we sat and had a picnic and soaked up the peace and quiet.

A wonderful place steeped in history, I don't normally do guided tours due to my poor hearing however the tour guide on this occasion was brilliant, very clearly spoken and extremely knowledgeable. The house and grounds are very well kept and there is ample parking as well as the normal NT shop and cafe. A very worthwhile visit if you are in the area or passing through on the M1 and need a rest from driving or make a day of it like we did, excellent.

This is one of my absolute favourite National Trust treasures! Both the Hall and the old Hall are fantastic places to visit. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and acres of grounds to explore. The history of both halls and 'Bess of Hardwick' is really interesting, a formidable woman for her time. The Halls are only open between 11am and 3pm usually, so be sure to time your visit so you can visit both (the grounds, shop etc are open much longer). You'll be transported back in time as you follow the footsteps of nobility up the old stone staircases!

Lovely place and grounds! House is massive and great to have a look around! Grounds lovely and well maintained. Little bits for the kids to play due to it being half term, scavenger hunt trail for the kids to spot. Gutted the Old Hall was closed (doesnt say clearly enough on the website only in small print at the bottom) ... it is missing a little play area or obstacle course made out of logs for the kids to play on.

We enjoyed this building particularly as ' Bess of Hardwick ' is one of my heroines. A tenacious, extremely clever woman who survived and prospered in such a difficult climate. The cattle on the way in blocked our path for a short while. The calves seem to enjoy licking our vehicle, curious creatures.. Don't expect rooms stuffed with furniture, lots of tapestries, some great applique work and amazing bed canopies for those who like textiles. Not all the rooms are open the South Wing was closed at the time The restaurant was a nightmare, 40 mins in the queue. The serving area is far too small for the crowds the sandwiches were dry and unimaginative. Apart from that we had a great time.

Lovely day out, interesting house but upstairs might be difficult for disabled as no lifts/elevator. They do have a virtual tour facility though as an option for those not able to get to the higher level and a tramper vehicle, electric scooter for getting around the grounds and garden. Nice little cafe too with disabled access to an outside seating area.

What a beautiful Elizabethan house, great architecture, big rooms. Lovely tapestries adorning the walls. The guides and helpers here are lovely people and have a wealth of knowledge. Well worth doing the tour. We only spent a couple of hours here but we will be back to take in more of the splendour and the grounds.

Huge country estate, with two manor houses (one in ruins), telling the story of one of the wealthiest and most influential people in Elizabethan England. If you like Tudor bling, you'll really appreciate the interior of the "new" manor house, with its dozens of priceless tapestries. If you find ostentatious wealth a bit tacky you will, like me, see it as more proof that great wealth is no guarantor of good taste. There two rooms that I did like, first the huge kitchen, with its collection of beautiful copper pans. Second the restaurant, located in an ancient barn with a magnificent beamed roof.

We are members of the National Trust and visited the Hall when my relatives came over from NZ to stay with us for a few days. There is plenty of parking available and not a long walk from there to the main entrance and facilities. All the staff are helpful and willing to talk and very informative on all accepts of the Properties history. The grounds are well managed, and the interior is amazing and highlights how impressive Bess of Hardwark and her descendants were. Walking from room to room, there is some amazing visually impressive scenes of grandeur, from room layout, such as thr long gallery, amazing tapestries throughout the building , and great artwork and period furniture showing how they would and did live right up to the modern times of the 1950's. Even the Old Hall, which was open on this visit, showed the impressive living they had at the time. The facilities also have well maintained cafe, gift shop and toilets. Would highly recommend a visit.

Lovely day out for all ages including dog friendly with lots to do and see. Beautiful gardens to walk round and plenty of open area with picnic benches. For those who struggle to walk you can hire scooters and for those who want to be more adventurous there are plenty walks to do around the surrounding area. Both old and new Halls are fascinating and full of history.

Really beautiful Elizabethian house . They say about it " more windows than walls " . Its history connects with chatsworth estate and bolsover castle . You can see some amazing examples wall tapestry . It is a fabulous trip to tudorian times . Outside there are beautiful gardens and orchards around the hall . There is a cafe , toilets , book shop and souvenir shop next to the house , you can use the car park ( pay as you go ) ans walk the grounds , woods and hills for free. There are ruins of another sister hall next door . That is owned by english heritage and there is a fee to get in , its worth to see both in one day

Great place to visit with a variety of things to do. Even in the winter it was great to explore the estate and the various historical gems dotted around. Unfortunately we were a little late from our walk (and afternoon treats in the cafe) to visit the hall, but it gives even more incentive to revisit.

Lovely place to visit. At the moment (November 2023), they keep the curtains/ blinds closed partly for the Christmas light trail and also to give you an idea of what it would have been like with only candle light. It was lovely for families with children, but for me and my wife we would have preferred to see it in its full grandeur of daylight in the rooms, so will have to revisit. Thank you though to the knowledgeable guides who were able to give us great detail on the history and the antiquities. Parking is good. Cafe was nice although a little on the smaller side so queuing outside when busy.

Loved it at Hardwick Hall. What an extraordinary legacy ,what and extraordinary lady, we were overcome by the story and history of Bess. All the volunteers were so passionate and knowledgeable. There's a tapestry project underway until June I think. Pop into the school room and have a chat with Layla. She is working on constructing a new 5th virtuous lady and is inviting all visitors to contribute by doing some needlework that will be incorporated in the final piece. It was pretty busy all week with lots of easter activities for the kiddies. The cafe can get pretty busy so time it for mid morning or mid-afternoon for a bit to eat to avoid the crush. Deffo worth visiting.

Hardwick Hall, a truly amazing place bursting with the history of one of the strongest women history has even known - Bess of Hardwick may not have been a monarch but she certainly deserves a very significant place in Tudor history for her strengths and achievements in a time where women were of little or no importance. Hardwick Hall, its magnificence and sheer scale of wealth are a testament to this formidable lady's achievements. On the same grounds, are the ruins of the former Hall (called Old Hardwick Hall) that you can also visit. Despite being in ruins, this too is pretty impressive and not to be missed and the views from the top are quite stunning. We didn't get to cover much of the grounds as we ran out of time (the Hall is extensive so you will need lots of time to look around it properly!) but we will certainly explore further on return visits. However, what we did manage to see was certainly beautiful and impressive with plenty of flowers and well kept lawns. There is a very lovely gift shop with very friendly staff and a secondhand bookshop too. There is an onsite cafe but you can take a picnic if you so wish, there are plenty of picnic tables if needed. There is onsite parking which is free for National Trust members, I'm not sure if it's pay and display for non-members but check the National Trust website for further information. All in all, a truly wonderful day out for all ages and if you love Tudor history, this is one place not to be missed!

Often have a great selection of outside games for kids, the two properties make an interesting contrast to each other. Stainby Mill nearby is worth a stop off for a 30-40 mins tour

Lovely Elizabethan House, temp below freezing today, frost on trees and gardens, beautiful. Decorated for Christmas and view the house with lanterns. As always thanks to knowledgeable volunteers for their info, house has interesting history. Lots of stairs, rooms mainly on 2nd floor.

A beautiful and iconic church. The last week of November and beginning of December hosts the Christmas Tree Festival to support and advertise local businesses and charities and help raise funds for the church itself. A few nice gift items are available to buy in the entrance vestibule. Please note that there are no public toilets in the church itself.

An amazing building with unique architecture. Chesterfield Parish Church  is an Anglican church dedicated to Saint Mary  and All Saints. Building of the church began in 1234 AD, though the present church dates predominantly from the 14th century. St Mary's is best known for its twisted and leaning spire (known as the Crooked Spire). If you pass through Chesterfield you have to stop and visit the church because you will have a great experience.

The Church of St Mary and All Saints, popularly known as The Crooked Spire Church, is the most intriguing and characteristic monument in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. While nobody knows for sure why the spire is twisted and leaning to one side, it certainly adds significant amusing character to the city centre, which is otherwise your typical smallish English Midlands town. This Anglican church dates back to the 13th century, though most it was finished a century later, including that comical spire. New painted windows were added as late as 1984. The inside of the church is very characteristic of many in England, and not particularly spectacular. There is a line of wooden tablets attached to the walls that illustrate the martyrdom of Christ. Entry to the church is free, and you're welcome to take photos.

Lovely, little church with the "wonky" spire. I couldn't go up the spire as tours had stopped. Hoping to come back when the tours are back on! You can still walk around the church which is quite big. Definitely recommend visiting!

The spire is definitely a sight to behold. Definitely stands out. Lovely church although unable to go in at the time as there before it was open to the public. Well worth a visit.

A really nice Church. Not very big, but lovely all the same.

Beautiful place of worship. Many interesting items statutes on show. Altars look wonderful. A tour up the tower is offered too, great views of surrounding areas, also church tours can be booked. Volunteers there takes very good care of it. Also a shop to buy items there.

What an amazing church. Passing Chesterfield and popped in for a spot of lunch and to view this amazing twisted spire. Apparently cowboy builders were around in the 14th century! After the black death caused a shortage of skilled workers, the spire was made from green wood and no cross beams. This caused the spire to twist, then they added the lead tiles and this made it lean! It is a very wonderful thing to view. Inside the church is full of beautiful carvings and stained glass windows. As you walk around, the history of the church is told. Absolutely worth a visit, free entry, very cheap parking across the road from the church, and the town is very quaint with all amenities required. A very positive experience on our visit in May 2023.

Nice serene place in the Chesterfield centre with a lot of bars and restaurants around.

What a stunning Church. The twisted spire aline is worth a visit. Many stories as to why the spire is twisted. Beautiful stations of the cross around the walls. The stain glass windows were stunning, the one depicting St Francis of Assisi was fabulous. The high altar had a beautifully ornate altar cloth.

Always a wonderful place to visit- a really special place with a variety of stained glass windows and a set of very spiritual altars and statues. A stunning church inside and out- of course with the iconic blue twisted spire!

Chesterfield is famous for its crooked spire and you can see why. It does make you wonder how it manages to stay upright. The stain glass windows are nice and some interesting tombs. It's well worth a visit if you're in the area .

I have yet to come across a Church that does not have some redeeming architectural features on our coach journeys, some Churches being more grand than others. But this Church does require a few minutes of your time to appreciate it's interior splendour. Yes the twisted spire is it's recognisable feature but inside it has some intricate features worth seeing, the stained glass windows being just some of them. A nice Church.

This is an absolutely incredible place where you look around and see ghosts of past, trying to imagine how life would have been like in there … but please be careful on the steps. Ps have been told they just did some renovations in it ( in order to preserve it better, improved steps)

Bess of Hardwick, Countess of Shrewsbury, was born in her father's manor, now old Hall at Hardwick, which today is a ruin beside the 'new' hall. Hardwick Old Hall, a slightly earlier house which was used as guest and service accommodation after the new hall was built. It is administered by English Heritage on behalf of the National Trust and is also open to the public. Many of the Old Hall's major rooms were decorated with ambitious schemes of plasterwork, notably above the fireplaces. Remarkably, impressive fragments of these are still to be seen (protected by preservative coatings and rain-shields), though most of the building is unroofed. You can go all the way to the top, which has some great views. Both Hardwick Hall and the Old Hall are Grade I listed (the highest designation) by Historic England.

What a great place to visit, it gives a real sense of the history of all Bess of hardwicks properties and life. We will be going again as we ran out of time you definitely need a couple of hours to explore and read everything even though some of it is closed off at the moment! Hopefully this will change soon as they get work done. Don't be put off visiting by staff on national trust entrance as they try and put you off!! We will definitely be going back and are happy to support English Heritage as they try and preserve all of these abandoned structures!

Had a wonderful day visiting both the old & new Hall

Recently reopened after some preservation work to the plaster work. It is still an English Heritage property, but now run by the National Trust, so you can access both halls on either membership. There are staff about or you can wonder freely and read the information boards dotted about. English Heritage do a guide book but only from there website, currently none in the shop. National Trust has one for the new hall with a brief mention of the old hall. Plenty stairs to climb with a fantastic view from the top, stairs are easy but some are uneven. Worth doing first if doing both halls

Good place to visit on a fine day. Great views if clear skies. Quite a few information boards. English Heritage should let NT staff have key to what was the shop and rooms with information panels in. Used to like going in there.

We visited here with us being English Heritage members, & most recently it has re-opened, after extensive refurbishments. This was my first time visiting, & I definitely have to say, I was impressed by all the white plaster features they have installed to highlight different area’s of the building, you can just imagine how grand it must of been years ago.

On the occasion of spring, we found blooming magnolia trees in the castle garden. It was a beautiful spring day, and the beauty of the place can only be seen by visiting, I will come back soon for the interior.🌸📸💕

Interesting place to walk around get the impression this would of been a beautiful building back in the day , steps up to the top to get good views of Hardwick & Derbyshire

Owned by EH but NT members get in free. Nice gift shop. Right Next to the large NT site but my kids really liked this site more than the other Hardwick hall. This one is Part ruined, steps to climb, good views, very interesting and peaceful. Wish we had our picnic here Instead of the mega busy NT one. You use same carpark for both sites. We also went to the NT mill just down the road; we had a good day out and saw all 3 sites.

Well worth going to see. Amazing ruin to explore. Shame the original owners decided to let it fall into to such a state. But does mean we have a good ruin to explore! Fun for the kids. ---Warning there are lots and lots and lots of steps up tot he top of the ruin! Great views tho!--- Also even tho it's English heritage, national trust members get in free.

Really friendly folk, reasonably priced cafe-pretty bog standard food and coffee, but down to earth staff and a pretty view of the canal make up for that somewhat. I get a bit bored going up and down but I do appreciate the views and the beauty of it.

Fantastic place to visit, we will return. We walked the Chesterfield canal.

Lovely walk lots to take in and see 👍

The walk along the restored section of the Chesterfield Canal is an absolutely stunning one. It's surprising what how stunning the scenery is, to say it's on the doorstep of thousands of people. The paths, though sometimes muddy, are very well maintained and wide enough for plenty of people to walk on. You can enjoy a walk on the canal all year round, it's beautiful both in summer and winter. Lots of benches and bins on the canal - it's such a shame that some people still think it's okay to leave their rubbish though. There's a towpath in many areas of the restored section, allowing cyclists and walkers to be on separate paths. Lots of wildlife to see and many boat trips are on offer, as well as canoeing during certain times. You can stop off at the Tapton Lock Visitor Centre or Hollingwood Hub to rest and have a drink/food.

Fantastic place to walk along. There's a few pitstops along the way, including a visitor centre, a pub and a cafe. There's plenty of seating for you to sit and enjoy the stunning views. There's also a cycle path that runs alongside the canal. It always seems to be popular with walkers, families and cyclists. Beautiful scenery.

Great towpath walk. Fine gravel topping, can feel like hard work after a few miles brisk walking. 12 miles there and back, end to end. Half the cyclists have no manners. None of the joggists have any.

Nice walk from Tapton Lock, Visitor centre has coffee and snacks, and dogs allowed inside too. Then towards Hollingwood Hub, then onto Staveley Basin. 3 miles from Tapton Lock to Hollingwood Hub cafe, then another 2 miles to the basin at Staveley otherside of Morrisons. If your lucky enough there are plenty if kingfishers to see as well as other birds.

Nice walk IF you don't have to keep stopping for the cycles, most of whom don't bother to use their bells and come speeding along thinking they own the path. Spoilt it for me so will be going elsewhere.

It's a lovely walk either way. Dogs love it, cyclists enjoy it, walkers explore it. Full of wild life swans, ducks, water voles, peaceful and tranquil the best words to describe it.

Wonderful reservoir with great views. Plenty of walking area for dog walkers. There’s a car park close to the reservoirs, £3.00 all day only accepts cash.

Beautifully serene spot with 3 reservoirs and mature woodland surrounding them. Great for quite walks or photography.

Places like this need our support, it is kept immaculate, we bought a parking pass for a year so we can regularly take the dog for a walk round here without having to use the temperamental ticket machine, it was about £30 and for such a beautiful place it really is worth every penny, great place to take children with plenty of benches, there are some toilets down the hill from the car park but be aware from the top reservoir its a fair walk, with a loop around all 3 reservoirs you can make a walk as long as you like to suit all ages / walkers.

walk around all three reservoirs will take under 2 hours. some paths inside the woods around these reservoirs would be muddy in winter or wet season. parking fee is £3 all day. the toilets are clean.

Three reservoirs, we prefer clockwise from the lower car Park, 55 minutes steady walk, gently undulating, mostly under tree cover, lots and lots of forest sounds, squirrels, mandarin ducks, cormorants. Three lakes are just under 7000 steps, weekday early morning and late afternoons and the place is a ghost town.

Absolutely amazing! It tool about 1hr and 30mins to walk around all three Reservoirs. It was super peaceful and calming! I lived that was not rubbish to be seen! It was definitely well maintained and a beautiful place to be! I would say it was too crowed, it definitely began to get more crowded into later morning time. But if you are looking for a good walk to just a place to go and be at peace definitely give it a go! It is just one of the ways that we are able ro see God's amazing and devine creations!

Great place to go for a nice walk. Only issue is the parking machine doesn’t take cards… cash only!!

A gorgeous spot for a lovely walk. Clear and easily marked paths surround the 3 beautiful reservoirs which alongside the trees and woodland make for a lovely walk on an autumnal day. The trees were turning a lovely shade of yellow and red which made for a great backdrop as I wandered around. Definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys the outdoors and seeing nature pass by around you.

What a beautiful place to walk! The reservoir and its surrounding land are beautiful. You can walk for miles in this peaceful setting, even looping down to a nearby nature reserve. If you're in the area, pay it a visit. The car park uses an old-school pay and display machine that needs coins, so make sure you stop off somewhere beforehand to stock up!

Wonderful walk around the reservoir's, parking was easy as there was plenty. It took us around an hour and half to get around. Definitely worth a visit.

My favourite and my very best place to chill and calm. I had so many walks here, I stopped counting. It's even better after last refurbishment - I only wish it could be done sooner, while I have been having a pram, but I'm not complaining 😁 Please bring seeds to the ducks when visiting - they will be very thankful 💖

Lovely place. Lovely scenery. Main downfalls are, it's a popular dog walking area.... Lots of Yappy dogs to spoil the sounds of nature and also comes with the added dog poo tree ornaments (bagged dog sh!t, thrown onto tree branches)..... Apart from that, I've loved this place for many years... 4 stars, due to the dog bits... (Not the fault of Linacre)

This reservoir is absolutely stunning. Great for all abilities with a good amount of parking. The walk around the 3 reservoirs takes just over an hour at a decent pace. There's a public toilet just down from the parking area and ice cream van that usually frequents the bottom car park in the summer months.

Awesome walk. Only an hour all the way round. 2 hours for a slow walk. Lots of parking but 1 way road and lots of pot holes to avoid. Lovely place to take the dog..

A wonderful National Trust property . Very interesting and lovely staff who know what they are talking about. Really enjoyed it and we’re looking forward to coming back when the bearing is fixed and we can see the mill working and grinding the grain.

Had a guided tour of mill, unfortunately the mill wheel is under repair and not currently working which means actual milling is not possible at the moment. Very informative and pleasant guide. Lovely historic building well worth a visit on way to Hardwick Hall

Such an amazing place with huge history. We have visited 3 or 4 times over the past 25 years or so. its always very pleasant to sit in the grounds and take a picnic.

Nicely restored small mill. The tour we had with Mick was excellent – and he himself is an experienced miller, who mills flour at Stainsby when it's operational. Just don't set too much store by all the English phrases he claims come from milling: reputable websites usually say that the origins of phrases like “rule of thumb” are not 100% clear.

Fantastic place to visor, steeped in 16th C history. The home of Bess of Hardwick . Worth reading up about her !

Lots to see and do. Great parkland to walk through, formal gardens are limited but nice enough but the house is well worth a visit. The story of Bess of Hardwick is brought to life throughout the house and what an amazing story it is. Nice cafe in the courtyard asking with the usual National Trust so 3 and second hand bookshop.

A wonderful old mill with a great deal of history, we were guided around the mill by a very knowledgable and informative National Trust volunteer, who covered every aspect of the history and workings of the mill through the ages. Well worth a visit

Lots to explore around the estate, with miles of walks through woods, fields and lanes, differing scenery through the seasons. There are entrance fees or car park fees depending on where you go, although free for National Trust members. Get your boots on and go explore before you hit the cafe

Been here a few time now and always enjoy ourselves. Great guides, really put in the effort to make the visit special which is appreciated with children. They sometimes have there own flour for sale and recipes. I like the collection box at the end with the bell ringing for money put in (gold coins make it ring loudest ~ so the sign says). Super place would recommend a visit.

Very cute small site..small and personal..all staff hands on and friendly. Very good with my kids ....helped them with the quiz sheet. Parking next to it in the lane. Toilet available. See working mill get a tour and buy their flour. Farmers wife had left some cakes eggs etc for sale in the field at the back of the mill with a honesty box so we bought some yummy flapjack to have with our picnic which we had up the road at Hardwick Hall , which is also NT and hardwick old hall also next to it , owned by EH but free to NT members.

We're NT members so called in here on the way home from Hardwick Hall. The parking is on the side of the street as it's so small. This is a really small place inside, no shop, no toilet. The entrance price is quite high to say what it is, good job we were members as if I had paid I'd have been very disappointed. I went expecting to learn how the flour used to be made and how it all worked but it seemed none of the 3 staff there seemed interested in showing us or talking to us about how things worked. It's that small there isn't really any excuse to stand by things and not explain the processes. We were here 15 mins tops and left non the wiser on how flour was produced.

Visited here for the Rail Ale Festival (on the Friday). Absolutely loved it, amazing ales to try and great food trucks. Tried so many different brands I've never had before. Definitely going back next year.

Well worth a visit if in the area, not as much content as I had expected. Staff and volunteers friendly and helpful, little cafe serves good value food\drink.

More about the work and the workplace than just the locomotives like at York Railway Museum for example. Just wish it was bigger. Lots of Deltics! Good facilities. Really enjoyed it. Well worth a visit!

Attended for the Rail Ale festival. Was run brilliantly. An astonishing amount of ales to try. You got a half pint glass (to keep) on the way in and most drinks ranged from £1.90-2.40 which the odd outlier for the truly ridiculous %'s. Amazing and almost paralysing selection of ales, ciders and gins The food outside was a fairly good mixture unless you're a vegetarian or vegan. Possibly up the ante for the non meat eaters in future? My only real snag was both the sound quality and line up order on the Saturday. I understand its going to be hard to sound check and get so many artists sounding good but often it was just so off that you couldn't hear them. The second to last band on the Saturday evening were a poor fit too. Playing songs no one knew (and our group consider ourselves quite eclectic) which kind of killed the mood considering the queen tribute act were headlining. Will absolutely be back next year though.

There's always something new to see here. The brake van ride today with the Class 02 shunter was fantastic. The place is a real credit to the team. Very much worth a visit for railway enthusiasts and it looked popular with families as well. The cafe is really nice.

I l8ve this Place and have seen it grow and develop over the years.it has loads of history to it and the staff are true enthusiasts with lots of time to talk and help you have a super experience. Easy parking and a good cafe too. A good all round place for all the family. I have attended their yearly beer festival for many years - another fantastic event here! With fine ales, street food in lots of varieties and live music. The atmosphere is always buzzing and everyone is just so friendly. Many a great memory made here. I highly recommend the roundhouse.

Usually much quieter. This visit was their Rail & Ale event. £12 entry with a glass. 100s of beers to chose from. About 30 food vendors. Curry was my favorite. Had good sides too. The ploughmans look excellent and was very good value. Quote a few stalls with reasonably priced craft type items.

Great little railway museum with lots of engines and a working turntable. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteers demonstrated how a train was turned and in a restored signal box how trains are controlled on the line. Good facilities, cafe, shop, big car park & very reasonable entrance fee. Great day out.

Very interesting place staffed by very knowledgeable people. Plenty of exhibits and demonstrations. Nice cafe. Overall, we found it better than the National Railway Museum in York. A must is the Deltic Preservation shed next door.

Great venue if you're a train buff. Some iconic locos when we visited.

First time visit, staff friendly and helpful. Plenty of free parking. Has a cafe for hot snacks and drinks and a small shop at the entrance. M/F toilets including disabled. Best to check website for opening times, some weekends used for closed parties. Good information boards around the site with staff ready to chat. Relatively level underfoot but it is an historic industrial site. Easy to find with satnav and the postcode off the website, brown signs when you get near. Lots to see and family friendly with a trail for children. Dog friendly too. Reasonable charge on entry with membership options available. A great afternoon out.would recommend. Edit. On the second visit we watched the turntable demo, visited the deltic preservation society sheds which was brilliant with a cab you can sit in and plenty of souvenirs. Took the signal box talk in the signal box - really interesting by one of the volunteers an ex signal man.

A lovely place for a couple of hours. The price has gone from £5 to £7 to £8 though without much change. I'm okay but glad I'm not a family of 4 visiting! Love the DPS shed and a wander to the signalbox, finishing off with a cuppa tea in the cafe! More could be done, Driver Experience on the 03 shunter, Brake Van Rides, Signalbox Visits perhaps?

Had a good afternoon here learning about the local history. Highlight was chatting to a knowledgeable volunteer in the control tower and finding out how all the switches worked.

Fantastic show with Giovanni and his dance troop. 5 stars. Theatre is old fashioned but lots of character, clean and tidy, but it needs to be made quiet clear on booking that no access to a lift for anyone who is disabled. Some one very kindly offered to swop a circle seat with my sister for their stall seat or she would have missed the show.

Lovely little theatre. Very comfy, and all seats have a great view of the stage. I was sat in an officially restricted view seat, though it was a very minor restriction. Leg room was a little tight, though it was front row of the circle. Other seats looked better, and there are significantly worse theatres out there leg room wise. Technically well equipped too, and the show we went to see was excellent fun. Great to see a proper theatre alive like this!

Really nice theatre auditorium, with clear lines of sight from all seats at all levels. It has excellent acoustics and there is good provision for disabled access. Also there are loads of toilets if you have a slack bladder. My only gripe is the lack of efficiency when it comes to service at the bar. It took me longer to get a beer than it did to get the train from Sheffield and walk to the theatre! They should have a separate table for buying water, and also to take orders for half-time drinks.

Our 3rd visit to watch the Christmas panto for my grandson and I and boy it didn't disapoint it was the best one we have seen full of fabulous jokes amazing songs we loved every second and came out smiling full of Christmas spirit well done everyone especially the exceptional pleasant staff 😀 see you next year xx

Old theatre upgraded for modern times. I saw the film "Young Picasso" here. I hope the lack of people in attendance is due to me going on a weekday. I recommend visiting on a day off from work when the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. It is great to watch a film about a Young Picasso with a bunch of elderly people but it would be nice to have seen some budding artists in the crowd. Come along and bring your kids!

A most beautiful theatre, one I've not visited before. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the play, Spider's Web was brilliant. A lovely experience all round.

The theatre is still as beautiful as it was on our first visit 45 years ago; so friendly and warm, like your favourite blanket. The staff were excellent, very welcoming and efficient. The production of Catch Me If You Can was really good.

First time I've been since I was a kid and now taking my own kids to their first panto! They adored it! The venue is clean and easy to navigate. Not too crowded and well organized. Amazing experience for the kids that they'll remember for life!

Love coming here and our recent visit was for the Party in the park event with the ABBA theme being the main attraction. It was brilliant. I would have thought they couldn't possibly top The Queen concert last year but they smashed it!!

Lovely park, includes the cricket club, plenty of seating, lovely to walk around, has a minature railway, going around a lake with ducks & swans on. Also has italian restaurant on site, only a few minutes walk from Chesterfield centre & retail park

Went with the kids to kill some time and got alot more than we bargained for. Went for a walk around the cricket field, on past the cafe, toilets, and playground. Round the lake (unfortunately miniature train only runs during the school holidays so will have to go back when we're over next time) and back to the ice cream van. Headed up to another playground where they also have all weather soccer pitch. But to top it off for the kids, there was a funfair which was just opening, made their day. Watched some cricket before we left. Spotlessly clean. Suitable for wheelchairs and budgies. Plenty of space for picnics.

Nice and relaxing. Nice wildlife also. Nice food Hall for refreshments also. Loved it!

A oasis of green close to the town centre. The small lake is no longer used for rowing boats but there is ample room for all ages to enjoy being out in the open. Cricket is still played here and there are play areas for the youngster's along with a cafe. Other events are held in the park during the year.

Visited with a 2yrs old and 6yrs old. So clean! Immaculate lawns to run around and burn off energy. Delicious 🍦🍦🍦🍦 and a beautiful duck lake. The children's train was a massive hit and 'Puffin Billy' was the nicest train driver. He even looked after our 2yr olds toy horse after we accidentally left it on the train and we returned 24hrs later to find it. Thank you 👍.

Lovely afternoon spent there. The train 'Puffin Billy' was free and the driver was really friendly and funny, tooting and waving to the kids. Nice cafe and play areas. Could have done with a paddling pool, it was super hot that day. Lovely place.

Queen's Park was opened in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee.  In its early days, the Park was a popular venue for rallies and demonstrations.  When the Derbyshire Miners' Associatiion held their rally here at the end of the 1890s it had a festive appeal with swingboats, roundabouts and coconut shies. The Park has been restored, with a café, lake and miniature railway, as well as playing facilities for younger visitors.  There is also a bandstand - sit and listen to a local brass band playing on some Sunday afternoons during the summer. There's also a cricket ground.  The first County Cricket match held here was between Derbyshire and Surrey, in 1898 - the same year the Cricket Pavilion was opened.  In 1904, the famous cricketer WG Grace played at Queen's Park in a match between Derbyshire and London County, and Don Bradman, the man many consider to have been the best batsman of all time, played here when the Australians toured England in the 1930s. Queen's Park still hosts County Cricket matches today.  John Hampshire, a former test batsman, called Queen's Park 'the loveliest ground in the country'. Another day at queen's park. Lovely safe park, great for the kids. Nice place to buy coffee ice cream toilets in the park. Little train for children which you have to pay for. Public car parks available at both entrances, other wise short walk from town centre. Boating lake, ducks swans etc.

Chesterfield would not Chesterfield without Queens park is only 10 minutes walk from town center, proper tarmac paths good for all disabled people garden ever changing seasons, train rides for school holidays, Good restaurant n cafe, public toilets & children's playground not forget it as a lake lots of ducks.

Stopped for a bar snack, found they did full menu so had main meal. Hallumi salad for my wife, fantastic quality. Blue steak for me, tender and tasty, great chips. Now we have found this place we will be there again.

We had an amazing dinner at the Crispin Inn for our 12th wedding anniversary , nice quaint historic building and lovely atmosphere, staff were incredibly friendly and attentive but above all the burger I had was not only massive but the quality was amazing- the best burger I’ve ever eaten ( and I’ve eaten a few 😂) the quality of the meat was absolutely stunning, my wife had the chicken burger which was the same! thank you so much!! Can’t wait to come again!

Big plus for the fillings in the sandwiches (plenty) ,service excellent but it was lacking in the execution it was something I would put together not a professional chef.

We had a lovely family meal here today, they catered to 15 of us including a toddler. The food was delicious and the staff were really nice even took a group photo of us afterwards. We’d recommend and will definitely visit again!

Best Sunday roast lunch I've had in years. Loads of perfectly cooked veg with it and fab gravy. Super cozy real pub, people and food. Dont miss it if you are here

Went to lunch with friends. Pleasant pub but we had poor food. Liver was over cooked, steak sandwich served on poor quality supermarket bread, latte was weak and flavourless. Beer good. Others happy with their meals, but all commented on coffee.

Lovely pub in a beautiful village. The food is fantastic, staff are very friendly and the service is excellent.

Food wasn’t up to standard for the price! Burger was as good as a rustler, £20 for a dinner when the beef was very low quality,Not worth the price at all!!paper thin like a ready meal,again not for the price . The service was dreadful,didn’t get a menus when seated,never asked if our meals were okay!just not welcoming or any customer service. The boy behind the bar was great though, helpful when we did mention the issues. This used to be a great little pub, and great food, but has gone extremely downhill. Something needs to change before it’s no longer open.

Beautiful old pub with loads of character and lovely friendly staff. The steak and ale pie was amazing!!! Packed with so much meat and onion gravy to top it off 😋 I wish we lived closer!!

Four of us ate ate at the Crispin one Saturday night in February. We had pre-booked a table, which was probably the best idea as there were quite few people eating. The staff were friendly and welcoming, providing a good service. Dogs on leads are permitted in most areas, except the dining room. There's a car park in front of the pub plus free on street parking. The bathrooms are clean and tidy. We each had 2 courses, a bottle of wine and beers - £56 per couple. The food was served on hot plates, very tasty and sizeable portions. Two of us had smaller sizes of fish and chips, together with a cod loin. The liver and bacon apparently was "excellent"! I'm not quite sure how we made room for the crumble, but we managed, and it was splendid. Make sure you are hungry before visiting! The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed with a good number of local people visiting - always a good sign. A good place to visit.

arrived 1:45pm on thursday after a walk. the prices of starters and steaks are higher than other pubs. we ordered steak pie, lamb shank, sandwich and pate were tasty but the chips were not triple cooked as stated in menu. the desserts mixed berries crumbles and bread and butter pudding were delicious.

Lovely country pub, beef dinner was lovely cooked to perfection, only quib they only supplied one small cauliflower cheese amongst four diners one spoonful each and one very tiny pot of dryish mint sauce not enough for 4 adults otherwise a1 Btw I'd started eating before photo lol

Went today for lunch and was sadly very disappointed. We’ve not been back here for 10yrs and had great memories of excellent food which we went back for again. Sadly this was not the case, my wife’s chicken burger was dry and heated pre cooked strips. My Sunday lunch had what tasted like smash type potatoes, with awful dry vegetables and extremely chewy at best meat. Not at all worth the £50 we paid, our best meal was my daughter’s chicken nuggets and fries. Such a shame.

A really impressive Grand house, as people say fencing around it but definitely worth a visit if you're in the area, you can still see bits of plaster and nice architecture if you take your time walking around, the story about the house is a bit sad. A lovely little church attached to it as well, also lovely views over surrounding area

The building is visible from the M1 and was well worth the visit to see it close up.

Great for a quick visit if you have been to Bolsover Castle or Hardwick Hall, only 5-10 mins away.

It's really shameful how it's been allowed to get in the state it's in,i know the history of the place but it must have been magnificent in it's day and we have so many historical buildings in similar state. Behind construction fencing whilst urgent repairs are carried out.

Currently fenced off while conservation work is carried out, so I only viewed from outside of the building. It’s roofless. Has sweeping views. Grand imposing ruin.

Very peaceful but access to the building is not possible due to conservation work underway.

Atmospheric ruined stately pile on a windswept hillside with breathtaking panoramic views. Fenced off for safety by the national trust for repairs. Well worth a quick visit.

With visiting Bolsover castle I decided to make the short drive here. Although the property would have been worth seeing, having all the fences around it for work to be done made it a very short visit. For god walkers it would be OK. It had a car park but nothing else

This place is small manor house I ever seen but overall it is good. You will think you are in high place. It is completely free with or without English Heritages membership even car park is also free. You can't go inside the house only outside but I recommend that you visit this place.

Fantastic views of the area. Hall itself is in state of disrepair, so can't be viewed inside. No facilities on-site, but does make for a good picnic spot on a nice day. Looks far more grand from the motorway, but still impressive in-person.

CLOSED FOR REPAIR / UPKEEP.... Able to see the site from a distance only... The visuals are good despite the closure + nice for walks around the site...

This is a small but very interesting Museum with a human size hamster wheel saved from St. Mary's (Twisted Tower) Church which was used to lift all the materials up through the tower as it was built. Others displays give you a feel for the history of the town. It's located just behind the church so make sure that you don't miss it if you're in Chesterfield for the day.

It is a very interesting place to visit. Even if is not a big museum you can learn a lot about the history of the Chesterfield. I like it. And another thing: Free entry.

Very happy to have been able to celebrate the African and Caribbean contribution to Chesterfield. I found out Mr. Redhead who is from Grenada 🇬🇩 made me so proud being Grenadian as well as well as to see such input from all over the Caribbean and Africa too. Really good to see such input but it also highlights that nothing much has changed towards people's behaviour towards blacks. Thanks to all the giants who have gone before me and have made my presence here in Chelsea a memorable one. Very proud Caribbean princess. ❤❤💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾❤❤

Shows a good view of the history of Chesterfield with some interactive elements too! Very interesting! The only downside was the photography of chesterfield element upstairs, as 4 people working there asked me the same question on separate occasions - I wasn't left to just appreciate the photography (but you don't have to visit that part)

Lovely little museum got whiling away an hour, interesting displays chasing the history of Chesterfield plus an exhibition on coal mining in the area with exhibits which you could touch and explore. There was a winter craft section where you could awaken your inner child and craft away, child not required but bet they would have enjoyed it!

First visit. Nice staff. Very interesting place. Although it's free it's good to give a donation. Good for kids too

Certainly worth a visit if you want to know some of the history of Chesterfield and its people. Don't expect to much though; it is a very small provincial museum.

Lovely outdoor space which is well maintained. Cafe area with toilets too and loads of free parking. Lots of nice pathways to walk and a fishing lake too. Some nice sculptures en route and a good play area for kids. Always people around so feels quite safe to even explore alone. A regular place of mine i enjoy visiting

Visited the park today to have a look at the cycling path as I plan to cycle here soon. Really lovely place with birds chirping, beautiful flowers. Stopped over at the playground, tried some of the exercise equipment there, then walked over to the lake. I think the lake area is more suited for cycling. I hear there is a mountain cycle trail, but didn’t go up there. As I cycle through the park I’ll share more updates. The only concern I do have is dogs not on leash. For anyone scared of dogs be prepared some dogs won’t be on leash, it’s a free park for them to roam with their owners around.

Lovely Country Park. A brilliant place for a walk around the lake and amongst the wildlife. Lots of great opportunities for bird spotting. There's a great carpark for while you're there and adjoining centre that has toilets and additional facilities. The flat grassland is a great space for events etc. I recently attended as a stallholder for a county dog show. Plenty of space for all the stalls and activities. There was also easy access into the open space as a vendor. Finally a good and robust play area for children which is always a plus. Would highly recommend a visit, whether attending for an event or for just a leisurely stroll.

I love this park and I have only been a couple of times so far. The main entrance on the north side is best for familys, as it pulls up right onto the large carpark and café area. Just off this are football greens and a play park, to get to the pond you have to go down a short steep hill, I think there is another way round to the west, which is much longer and less steep. If you do not do well with hills and want to walk round the pond or have dogs and want somewhere shady to walk, I suggest parking on the south side where the pin for 'Holme Brook Valley Exercise Park' is. This lower car park is directly near the outdoor gym, with another play area, and getting to the pond from here is a much gentler slope for anyone with problems with joints/arthritis. The car park there is much smaller but still a decent size when its not too busy.

Absolutely stunning place. It's enormous. We parked on the bottom level, and steered the kids to the path that avoided the playground so we could get a good walk done first. Went through the woods and around the lake and then up the path by the brick ball which led, unbeknownst to us, up to another playground. Couldn't avoid it, 😂 but luckily also has a cafe and toilets as this is a much bigger carpark. Plenty of green fields to walk and play. Unfortunately, didn't have time to explore all the other trails, but we will be back. Suitable for long or short strolls. Fine for wheelchairs and buggies from the bottom carpark . Not sure from the top as we went up a very steep hill to get there.

Holmebrook Valley Country Park is a lovely place to go for a walk, the forests here are really beautiful, especially with all the autumnal colours. It's a great place to take your dog, there are lots of areas you can take them off the lead, including an enclosed area specifically for dogs to play around in. There is a playground next to the northern car park that is perfect for children to play while parents can watch from the nearby benches. You can find another playground about half way around one of the trails, additionally there is also an outdoor gym that can be found in the same area. Restrooms are next to the play park at the northern car park. Easy to find & accessible. There's lots of benches distributed throughout the park, with a couple of picnic benches. You can find some picnic benches next to the enclosed dog play area, and there are also some picnic benches by the northern car park. The walk itself is mostly flat, however there is a downhill/uphill segment at the beginning & end of the circuit. Besides that, there are no other notable hills. The trails are easily accessible for prams and mobility vehicles. Enjoyed visiting here with my dog, it's a really peaceful place with a lovely lake. Lots of other doggies to play with if that's something you're looking for. Just be aware that there may be dogs running around off the lead, but from my experience here they've all been well trained.

Fantastic park we have recently started to explore. There are two play areas for children, a beautiful lake to walk around or fish at, football fields and do many different trails to explore. Having two dogs it's great to see the amount of trash cans available to make been a responsible owner that much easier. There is a cafe I am yet to try but looking forward to doing so.

Fantastic park for a stroll, play, sit or snack in the cafe. It has a lovely lake and well defined paths through the trees, plus even a small mountain biking trail. There is a big play park for kids, football goals and plenty of free parking. Something for everyone to enjoy.

Nice little country park with amenities, great for dog walkers & cyclists, a few steps & quite muddy when we visited so it not best for pushchairs & the like! Ample free parking & toilets were clean, fitness park & traditional park with zip wire, also couple of decent football pitches!, worth a visit.

I walk my dogs here most mornings, it is beautifully managed by Chesterfield Borough Council. So lucky to have it on our doorstep

It was lovely cruising down the river on a skippered Canal Boat with afternoon tea, great crew, really friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend

Not the most entertaining canal I've walked along, very little to see or do and the footpath is mostly used by cyclists. Maybe if the canal is ever reconnected to the main canal system which I believe is the case then there may be more activities to see along the canal.

Great walk from Hollingwood Hub cafe to Tapton Lock paths easy to walk some a little muddy due to time of the year but a great walk for all seasons and ages.

Brilliant place to stop when visiting the canal. The hub has a shop and cafe with toilets. Boat trips are available Saturdays. Large free carpark check for gate closure times.good towpath for cycles or walking.

Really nice stadium decent food choice and good drink selection with 2 pinters available. (However £5 for a sausage roll was bit steep) How ever prices seem to change pre match and at half time

So we arrived at the ground to watch England under 21’s with s crowd of only 4400 . The queues were very long as all the turnstiles were not open . The stewards decided to start checking tickets manually to get you into the ground only 5 minutes before kick off . We eventually got seated on the front row only to have 50 /60 people stood in front of us trying to find their seats . Half time came and we thought we could go and get some food and a drink . We left our seats with 3 mins of the first half to go to again get in a queue . We eventually got served as the players started to come back onto the pitch for the second half , so that’s approximately 18 minutes to get a drink and no food because they had sold out . There was 5 staff behind the bar and without being harsh I don’t think any of them had an iota of interest in what they were doing . I have now been to the ground 4 times this season and each visit has been woeful from s service point of view !!

Easy e-ticket access. Modern design with good views from the majority of seats in the stands. Food outlets and bars exceptionally busy on match days. Good stewarding. Club store on site. Great for hospitality events and Sunday lunch.

Nice stadium good view from any seat in the ground. 20 minutes walk from chesterfield station. About mile. Tesco supermarket outside ground as well as KFC and Costa. If you are in the away end bring sunglasses.

We were at the Sunday Car boot. It was totally full. Loads of sellers, buyers and stuff. The other car boots are on grass and were still waterlogged. So this is the only one. Proper inside toilets and a cafe. I bought stacks. The other car boot sales are on grass, so have now finished till spring. As the forecast was good, Chesterfield was packed to capacity.

Despite losing its definitely best ground in this league I've visited. Long trek home to Barnet when you lose 4-2

Visited here on a 'Heritage Day' event for a stadium tour. Quite unusual, you may think. Chesterfield FC and 'heritage' may not be the first thing that pops into your head, but you'd be mistaken. Our guide, Peter, was very knowledgeable, informative and engaging providing the rich history, including anecdotes, of Chesterfield Football Club. They would like to do these tours more often so get in touch with the club stadium office.

One of the worst stadiums I have ever visited. No sooner arrived the local youths were trying to cause damage to my vehicle. Informed the stewards they seriously couldn't care less. Not a police officer in sight wouldn't recommend security is shocking here makes you feel unsafe.

Was my first time yesterday, brillint stadium holds 10.000, it was a full house pare a couple of seats for theFAcup game agaist the Baggies (west brom) Good game chestes led at half time, 3-2, till almost final whistley, baggie scored, 3-3 replay at west brom too come R, tgecm I was a guest of Intelegent scaffolding, staff were brilliant nice welcome and looked after, the food was to say 10/10. Lovely people, enjoyed the atmosphere, will be comming back Thank to dave king from intelegent scaffolding and thank you to the club. and its staff, Will be at the replay, hopefully another upset Cheers.

Really nice little cottage, lovely decorations for Christmas. Attendant was both knowledgeable and friendly. Visited sat 11th December 2021.

I have been several times. Only small and full of history. Beautifully decorated for Christmas. Friendly staff. Free just make a donation. They often put on interesting events. I have been to music and herbal medicine. Check opening times before you go.

What a lovely place to visit, open from April to September on a weekend and then everyday for the 2 weeks before Christmas

I have driven past here many times and glad I made the effort to visit. It was trimmed beautifully, and it was very interesting to read about each item in the house. It is only small and wouldnt take much of your time... but worth a visit.
