I Just Climbed this Iconic Mountain. It’s a Amazing Climbing up and Down takes similar time. Hike from Zermatt to Hörnlihütte is also very Advance and Beautiful. People wo don’t want to walk all the way to Hörnlihütte can take a Cabelcar to Schwarzsee then 3 hrs hike. Amazing enjoy

It’s beautiful!!! Better to take train to go up because you can stop anywhere you like….coffee, pictures or activities. Start earlier as you can because the shop close mostly at 4pm. It’s good for the whole family.

This peak has incredible views from many places, but my absolute favorite is from Rifflesee Lake. The scenery there is truly spectacular and worth a visit.

Life changing experience visiting. Keep in mind you can't actually visit the peak without hiking to it and that requires special gear. The best experience is getting the lift up to the Glacier Paradise and enjoying the views along the way. Might get a little light headed from the altitude though.

The view here is magnificent. I used to see this mountain on my geographical textbook, how amazing it is to see the mountain in person. I suggest that you can take the train to go on the top of the mountain and see the view up there. You can see the Matterhorn at a good place. But I think the utility pole there makes the photos don’t look perfect. To solve this problem, you can go hiking down the mountain, then you can have a perfect angle for photography.

We loved this place. This was our first visit to Switzerland and Zermatt being the first place we visited. Perfect location for hiking with a beautiful view of the Matterhorn and lakes.

The beauty of Swiss Alpine beyond words to describe. The journey to the mountains was a lifetime experience and memories which i can only afford once to travel but shall be in my memory bank until it get corrupted😳 Sangat cantik( too beautiful) The pictures below also showed some very old houses at Zemmart which i was truely amazed on the construction made by the olden days folks and they stay strong till today to be shared by us in this century.Lovely to see the landscape of swiss where the citizens and authorities made effort to maintain the identity of their buildings eventhough some has been abundunt.

Great hike up to Hornlihutte and outstanding views. The hike is strenuous from all directions but worth it. You can take a cable car half way up (or back down). Bring lots of water and sunscreen. If you’re feeling adventurous, combine with glacier hike. The views of Matterhorn were best at sunrise

Wow.. the mighty Matterhorn.. the cable car to the top is amazing. The views are amazing and the price isn’t too bad compared to other mountains like Jungfraujoch. I would rather come here as it has a lot more to do. There are nice walking paths and a small lake at the top. We also took the go karts down which was an amazing experience. The only downside was we had to wait nearly 3 hours for the go karts so go early ! This mountain is truly amazing. There is also an ice cave which is pretty cool and a slide which is very cold but fun!

Winter or summer it’s absolutely beautiful with many hiking options. Restaurants I think sometimes don’t pay to much attention and care due to high tourists circulation. There are a few small businesses ones definitely worth a visit.

The Matterhorn: an iconic symbol of nature's beauty and human triumph. Its majestic peak captivates, leaving an indelible mark on all who encounter its grandeur.

We had very low expectations for the food quality and rode up for lunch in between ski runs. We’re were very pleasantly surprised. The space is beautiful, the food was excellent, and the views were spectacular! We loved it so much we returned for lunch the next day. It’s pricey but worth the price.

The top observation deck was closed due to a defect lift, so No panoramic view whatsoever unless you have a drone or venture deep into the snow. The glacier paradise was rather disappointing as the sculptures were minimal and not impressive. Jungfrau ice palace has better sculptures. They should have a nice gourmet restaurant on the top of Europe, but instead only a self service small restaurant w mediocre food. What a pity. Check out the concept at ICEQ where 007 was filmed. That’s the kind of restaurant one is looking for in a high end resort like Zermatt. The new lift w heated seating is rather impressive. Unfortunately w peak to peak tkt, you can’t get to plateau Rosa, the Italian side.

One of the most magnificent viewing balconies in the Alps. Great view of Matterhorn, Weisshorn and Zinalrothorn; after a few steps still Castor, Pollux and Lyskamm. In the middle of the most beautiful ski area in the world. From the Breithorn plateau particularly spectacular panorama.

Worth the ride up. After you get off the cable car, you'll immediately feel the change of altitude and temperature. I was wearing shorts but definitely needed a windbreaker and a hoodie. I brought a nice winter hat as well (highly recommend). There is a cinema room that will play a short film. When I went, it was focused on the extreme climbers you would trek to the different peaks around Switzerland. Matterhorn is NOT the highest in elevation. Very well made mini-documentary with a handful of seats. I stood for most of the film. The panoramic observation deck was breathtaking. FYI: the souvenir shop (very minimal) doesn't have a dedicated cashier - you have to purchase through the food line. I wasn't hungry so I asked people in front of me if I could bypass them to buy a beer (the food line is very slow). The beer was affordable considering it was on a mountain top (~$7 francs)

An amazing view of the surrounding alps. If you have a clear day, you get a great view of the matterhorn. However, the better view is the glacier field and the many, many peaks. Then you can go inside the glacier and look at the stratification with sediment. There are crevasses you can look into. They also have several ice carvings. The gondola ride up and down are also scenic so be sure to look around. We have the Swiss half price pass which also applies here so the cost was more manageable.

The ride itself gifts you with wonderful views of the Alps and the Glacier Palace itself is also amazing. We were careful to go there on a sunny day (we checked the weather every day and the webcams on Zermatt's main tourism site) to enjoy our trip the best we could, specially since the ride is so expensive. I just find ridiculous that even the bathroom is payed, 2 CHF, when you have already spent more than 80 CHF per person for the ride, plus whatever you eat at the café (and we didn't ski, that's also extra for the ski lifts). Very expensive, too much really, but you do get to see something amazing.

Europe's highest mountain station. The views at the observation deck were beautiful. Also on the way up and down, you get a full view of the massive Matterhorn. There are also several activities you can do at the top, such as visiting the Glacier Palace and chilling at the Cinema Lounge. After all the fun, you can eat at the restaurant, which serves pretty decent food.

The first cable car up swings more than other cable cars we have been on, which made us feel a little uneasy. And at one point along the journey our cable car stopped briefly mid journey. At the top there’s a restaurant, ice sculptures in glacier palace and that’s about it. More so for skiers. Not worth the money really. 2 euros to use the toilet here. But it’s free to use the toilets at the station down from here.

Highly recommend making your way up there it's totally worth it even though the price is a bit much. The glacial exhibits are mind-blowing and a fun activity to do if you don't want to go outside since it's freezing and there is always snow there. We went in August and on a good day you are able to ski there. The decision if it's allowed to ski that day is made at 06:00am by the staff. And the first lift up is at 08:30am. Our hotel offered a service to check if the lift will be going up or if the wind was too severe.

Visited in July 2022 and will never forget it. It was a little foggy at the top which was a bit of a shame but nothing like the feeling of being inside a cloud lol. I did suffer with altitude sickness whilst up there but my husband and sons were fine. And we visited near closing time so weren't up there very long so bear this in mind if you're prone to being affected by high altitudes (I didn't know I did until I was up there) but still had the best time 😁

AMAZING views and the ride up was incredible. However the Glacier Palace and the viewing point was closed when we went up which we did not realise, the cost remained €90 with Swiss Travel Passes. Would still recommend because it the views were unbelievable but it was slightly disappointing.

Highest gondola in the Alps, rising to a 3,883-m. summit with 360° views of other peaks & glaciers. an ice palace complete with glittering ice sculptures and an ice slide. It is very cold on the inside, make sure to grab layers if you're visiting.

Nice ride up if it is a clear day, spectacular views. On a cloudy / foggy day not sure if I would pay the 95 CHF per person price.

Go if there are enough breaks in the clouds! Even if you don’t go to Italy the views are amazing from the viewing platform. You can check on the Zermatt Matterhorn app to see the webcams. If it’s cloudy, they will still have the loft open and I can’t help thinking if you are not going to ski down then it’s a waste of time. BUT if views are good it’s GREAT.

The glacier paradise is near the peak of Matterhorn. However, this is not on the actual mountain which can be viewed in a distance from the glacier paradise The glacier paradise has a very nice observation deck from where you can directly watch the Matterhorn. Breithorn is visible on the other side of the observation deck. The glacier is accessible directly for skiing.

Excellent Skiing in the glacier! 🎿 There is a free viewing platform (12,740’) that’s worth a stop. The glacier palace (ice tunnel) is not worth the extra 12CHF. The cafe at the top also has a good view and if you buy something you can access the restroom or pay 2CHF.

Wonderful experience, the Gondola ride alone is breathtaking. Make sure to make the trip in the morning for the best views and have more time. Buy your tickets at the counter to avoid delays or cancellations due to bad weather and its half off with a swiss travel pass.

We had a wonderful time in Zermatt, to a large extent thanks to Katarina from Matterhorn Diamonds ski school. Katerina is an excellent and entertaining ski instructor, she will challenge you to step out your comfort zone, with a lot of fun, and thanks to her I have definitely improved my skiing skills a lot in just a couple of days. She took care of all the arrangements, lunch reservations in the nicest restaurants on the slopes and will ensure you have a hassle free day on the ski slopes while you become a better skier in the mean time.

Lukas was our guide and instructor for 2 half days. He was outstanding in all ways. We never skied Zermatt and we only speak English so we felt like a guide would be beneficial. We got way more than we expected. We learned the mountain, customs and got many tips to improve our skiing. He asked us if we just wanted a guide or some helpful instruction. We choose both. It was great fun and we learned so much. We also had peace of mind because we didn’t have to even think about a plan. If you are on the fence wondering if this is worth it, do it! Thanks Lucas.

We booked a private lesson for 2 with Matterhorn Diamonds 2 weeks ago and it was the best decision ever. We were fortunate to have Lukáš as our instructor, which completely changed the way I see and enjoy skiing. We started with less steep blue slopes and gradually increased the difficulty ending up doing red slopes and having one of our best times on ski. Matterhorn Diamonds were great to work with from start to finish! Some friends and I rented skis, boots, helmets, jackets and pants through their team and they coordinated a guide/instructor for our first day on the mountain. They accommodated all of my requests via email and were very prompt and friendly. I was so grateful for the wonderful ski day their team provided. Juan was our guide/instructor and he was absolutely splendid to spend the day skiing with. I have been skiing my whole life and consider myself an advanced/expert skier from Utah and he was able to provide helpful instruction on ways I could improve as the terrain here is different from my usual. The other skier in our party is more novice to skiing and she was very much improved and more confident at the end of the day with his expert instruction. Juan had such a detailed way of explaining ski movement making his instruction easy to implement on the slopes. He was knowledgeable about the mountain and it’s history/culture and accommodated everything we wanted to accomplish. He was truly wonderful and we so enjoyed our experience with him and the rest of the diamond team.

We used Matterhorn Diamonds two years in a row for our family's spring break trip to Zermatt and were beyond satisfied both times. All of the instructors/guides were friendly, knowledgeable and extremely accommodating. They helped to make our trip smooth and super fun. They were especially wonderful with our children, so much so that we requested the same instructors this year. Juan and Isabella are AMAZING and we miss them already. We had a great experience with Matterhorn Diamonds during our recent visit to Zermatt. My wife has skied in the past, but not in a few years, so we wanted someone to ski with her while our sons and I skied more difficult terrain. I communicated with Rowena via email and she was very helpful in putting together a plan. The instructor, Lucas, met my wife at our hotel, got her up on the mountain, provided excellent instruction, and was extremely patient with her. This was my first time skiing, and I loved it! Our instructor, Juan, was excellent—patient and attentive. Despite the short holiday, We hope to return next year for a longer stay to master skiing. Unexpected underground wonder! Never having visited Zermatt before, I was not aware of the story behind the rise in popularity of this small city. This museum describes the first attempts to conquer the Matterhorn and the history behind the Swiss and Italy rivalry on this quest. Interesting independently if you are or not a climber. Perfect for a rainy day if you don’t have anything else planned.

The Matterhorn Museum – Zermatlantis offers insight into the development of Zermatt. It shows the triumph and tragedy surrounding the first ascent of the Matterhorn. Is free with swiss travel pass. Spend sometime if you do have some spare time. Is a good way to have some understanding of the real story of the place.

This is a small museum displaying of how people from Zermatt lived in the old days & telling the history of the climbers trying to climb the Matterhorn. The entrance is on the ground level & the actual museum is on the lower ground floor. Our first feeling when we walked down the stairs was.... it was so damp inside! It has many displays, I particularly loved the interior of the old houses & the animals (i.e. Blacknose sheeps) displays. Unfortunately, overall the exhibition was not our cup of tea but it's still good for us to understand a bit more of the local culture & history of Zermatt. In my opinion, it's highly recommended for those who are interested in local history & especially for those who have a Swiss Travel Pass.

Great place to visit on rest days or bad weather days. The museum has important historic artifacts and storyboards. We visited for around 25minutes.

You need an hour to do this. There are 4-5 rooms in the lower floor that displays about the strategic end to the first climb and also introduces you to other climbers of Matterhorn. There is one room with history of Gornergrat railways. Entry fees for adults is CHF 12. If you have the Swiss pass, entry is for free.

As far as local history museums go, this is one of the best anywhere. It helps that the subject matter is so iconic. The museum focuses on the scaling of the Matterhorn, and how the town culture developed around Alpine climbing. You'll find all sorts of artifacts like the original ropes and ice axes used to climb the matterhorn. The museum has three levels. The first is the main entrance, ticket booth, and gift shop. There are lockers to leave bags and hangars for jackets. The second level is below the street and is a metal grate walkway with historical items. The deepest and final level has the largest selection of artifacts and information. An audio guide is available in many languages but you'll need to download an app. Staff is minimal but does speak English.

If you want to understand the history of climbing, this is your heaven. If you have swiss museum pass and want to discover yet another place it will take you 10 minutes. Light system was not working on the day we visited and therefore they were giving a discount. Had to use phone flashlight to illuminate some parts. Liked the availability of free lockers. Water available at a lovely fountain just steps outside the museum. Have seen much more interractive history museums.

A museum that has been meticulously planned, allowing you to understand the history of the Matterhorn. It's hard to believe that people were already summiting it in 1865, and I can't bear to look at that rope – these individuals were incredibly brave! If you have an STP (Swiss Travel Pass), you can enter the museum for free. Be sure to check the afternoon opening hours, and when you're in Zermatt, don't miss this place.

Great museum about the history of Zermatt and the people who have climbed the Matterhorn and surrounding mountains. The museum looks small from the outside, but we were surprised by the extensive exhibition located underground. It's definitely worth a visit.

Terrific museum that is much bigger than it looks from outside. It tells the story of traditional life in Zermatt and the many arduous treks to conquer the Matterhorn. I would suggest taking the stairs all the way to the lowest floor first (be sure to scan the QR code for the free audio tour before you lose data in the basement!) and work your way around and back up, finishing with the movie theater to watch segments from the 1937 film.

Pioneers of alpinism are laid to rest here. Among these some members of the first successful climb to the summit of the Matterhorn, four out of seven died during the decent.

A local cemetery, with a corner dedicated to mountaineers who lost their lives climbing the Matterhorn, the mountain which overlooks the town of Zermatt. Take a quiet walk here to commemorate their lives. Well-maintained and much-visited by the community.

A very sobering and even sad place to remember those who Chose to Climb the Matterhorn and lost their young lives. Many were in their teens and early twenties when they met their end, before their lives had truly begun. The graves of the original group that was led by Edward Whymper are here as well. They summited successfully in 1865 but met disaster on the way down. The cemetery is located behind St. Mauritius Catholic Church and is open 24/7. It is well maintained and a very interesting place to visit.

There is a public park near by, it's a historical place for over 500 mountaineers memorial :) and they slept forever in peace

Nearby the bridge there is a scenic place to take photo and have a glace of Matterhorn peak during sunrise.

Very warm feeling here despite it being a cemetery. It was cool to look around and just be at peace with those who are gone. Beautiful view of the matterhorn and many headstones for those who died doing what they love.

Well worth the visit. Just stand there close your eyes and imagine how they felt chasing their dreams doing the impossible

We were hiking to the Unterrothorn (from Zermatt). It took us about 6h (with breaks). The Stellisee on the way up was one highlight. You can take the cable car down to Zermatt.

Great hour or so walk from Zermatt. Head up towards the Matterhorn and as you leave the top of town follow the signs. 5 francs each. Take your time to take in the sights and sounds.

Found this little beauty last minute! Entrance fee for adults is 5.5 CHF or £4.50 English, which let’s face it is super cheap for Switzerland. Cash/card is accepted at the entrance. Some incline is to be expected with plenty of stairs to climb. At the end of the trail, you can choose to take a short hike back to town or exit the same way you came in from (go back) It is a beautiful gorge with fast flowing water!There’s some power there! Enjoy.

Very hot trekking up hill in the summer to get to the gorge (may have been a better idea to walk up through the gorge because it was cooler and then down via the suspension bridge doing the circular walk but we did it the other way around) but well worth the effort and it's nice and cool whilst your walking amongst the gorge.

This is a dope little hike. Easy enough for beginners and has some pretty stunning views of the canyon and River you might not otherwise see. Overall, it’s shorter than I expected, but still worth checking out.

We visited here on a weekday around mid-August, and apart from us, there was maybe one other person. This allowed us to admire the breathtaking views in this awe-inspiring gorge. At the entrance, a very kind gentleman and lady explained everything to us, and after paying the reasonably priced tickets, we embarked on a lovely walk that took about 20 minutes. It led us further up and allowed for a return to the town in a loop via a different route, exiting near the Fun Park. On hot days, this place is perfect for cooling down and marveling at the multi-million-year-old gorges and shapes carved by rushing water in the rocks. The structures we walked on are safe and offer different perspectives of the gorge. If you're in Zermatt, you must definitely visit this place.

The power of water and nature is amazing! 5 franc in coin is the entry fee. Take your time to see different angles along the route.

Great mini hike. Near downtown Zermatt. Except for the multiple steps on the far side, this is an easy to moderate level hike. Great views of the gorge and a great place to cool down

Only accessible in the summer, Gorner Gorge is a interesting attraction that takes you close to the cliffs of Zermatt's little canyon with the sound of rapid river beneath your feet. The experience is quite breathtaking and serene as you walk on the wooden platform and admire the rushing water, drowning out all surrounding noise. It is a must visit during the summer. The Gorner Gorge is can be reached via a hike up from Zermatt or down from Furi (via Restaurant Blatten), but make sure do keep an eye out for the sign. It is highly recommended to incorporate the place as part of your hiking trail, or it would be quite a wasted trip as the place brings you across the river instead of making a loop. There is also a cover charge of CHF 5 per person, so take note.

Loved this place! Great little hike in Zermatt, about 15 min from the town. Entrance fee is CHF 5.50 per person, you could either take a quick 20 min walk to see the gorge or continue on a series of stairs (about 3 floors) for a gorgeous walk back to Zermatt town for about 40 min. We did the latter and it was just the perfect little hike!

About 25min walk from Zermatt Station. It's a great place to visit. A few steps to take so please do take note of it. As its a gorge it will get quite chilly so do layer up as needed. The gorge wall itself it's great and ends with a pretty waterfall in all its glory. After that you can continue your hike to Furi to take the matterhorn glacier paradise cable car and this will take another hour or so depending on your speed, its an uphill climb so again be prepared!

This is an attraction not to be missed!!! We hiked a beautiful trail instead of going through the main entrance. We got there through the “back door”, and there’s a lot of stairs to go down. The path follows the river and, although people can cheat and go back the same way avoiding the main gate, we exit through the main gate and paid the fee (CHF 5.50) that is a bargain when you consider how beautiful this place is. After exiting through the entrance gate, we walked a few minutes and crossed a bridge on our left. We then hiked up up up and up with gorgeous views of the Matterhorn. We had lunch at an amazing stube before continuing our hiking all the way to Furi Bahn. This is a great way to spend a day in gorgeous Zermatt!

Nice place to visit to get close to the glacier river. Well maintained path, mostly made of wood, blends perfectly with the scenery. Well worth the 5.5CHF entrance fee.

Definitely not as amazing as the Aare Gorge but still quite a nice trail to walk and admire mother nature. You'll get to see the tip of the Matterhorn too! Be prepared for quite a few flights of stairs (overall an easy hike)

Our 4 year old son attended the school for 5 days. We found the instructors to be helpful, caring and fun. I’m very happy they made this a great experience for our son and allowed him to fall in love with this sport.

Had a great experience for first timer and i would recommend them , very amazing in terms of basic to experience , never rushing things and now i am confident to do skiing every year. Hopefully will reach red slopes next year. Look for isabel as she rocks with family instructing and making it fun along the way.

My husband and I had the pleasure to learn skiing for the first time with Claudio. We were on a time crunch and had only 3 hours. As new skiers and being adults, we were unaware of the basics and not to mention very intimidated. Zermatt ski school made this experience easy by offering us proper clothing and equipment rental option (located in the same building) and introducing us to Claudio as our instructor. Claudio’s passion for the sport translated to his lessons. Every instant was a learning opportunity (e.g, how to get up when you fall, differences between snow, safety practices). He was enthusiastic and had a keen eye to our individual skills which he shaped throughout our lesson. Although we only had three hours we felt confident enough to return and continue practicing. Overall, Claudio quickly turned around our intimidation to enthusiasm for the sport. My husband and I can’t wait to hit the slopes again. Our only regret is not having enough time to take another class.

My children (aged 7 and 9) had a fabulous week skiing with Claire and John in Zermatt. They did five days of full-day lessons, which took them to all ski areas of the resort, and didn't want the lessons to end! The instructors were fun and patient - both kids made huge progress in their technique. They were so proud of their medals on the last day and announced it was the best ski holiday ever! The booking team in the office were also very friendly. I'd highly recommend European Snowsport if you come to Zermatt. Would definitely ski with them again!

I had one snowboard lesson for a morning along with two friends. The staff are really helpful and answer all your questions. Our Instructor, Jiří was the best, teaching all the basics, following us closely and correcting each of our mistakes. He recorded us snowboarding and sent the videos for us. A very pleasant, and patient teacher. On the next day I was already snowboarding by myself in one of the big slopes. Recommended!!

I absolutely love this company. I had a wonderful instructor named Kerstin. She taught me such great technique and made skiing so much fun. Definitely ask for her as your instructor. I am a beginner and she got me from the little slopes to some rly steep ones. I had such a great time!

We had 4 kids aged 5, 7 and 11, all beginner skiers, in a 2.5 days ski school program with European Snowsport. On day 1, our instructor, Adam, came and met us at our accommodation (which was super convenient) and everyone quickly felt comfortable and at ease with Adam’s calm and friendly nature. Adam was a brilliant instructor - very capable at managing the different ages and progression of the group and balancing the lesson with just the right amount of technical skill, fun snow play and hot chocolate breaks! My son had an injury during the first day which cut his lesson short that day, but Adam was excellent in communicating with us and most importantly providing care and attention to make sure he was returned to us safe and sound. Overall we were delighted to have a highly qualified instructor, the flexibility to meet our groups individual needs and the convenience and professionalism offered by this school. Highly recommended and I would not hesitate to book again. Thank you Adam and European Snowsports.

I had a day of skiing with Peter S from Denmark. Although only 20 years old, Peter is years beyond in life. A joy to ski with and an outstanding teacher. Peter has a wonderful way of teaching whilst also being extremely engaging. He was quick witted and was so easy to talk to. We had many laughs whilst still maintaining professionalism. Do not be fooled by his youth. Peter has much experience. Thank you Peter.

We just spent the most incredible week in Zermatt with Claudio! It was the first time skiing for our 4 children, ages 9, 11, 13 and 15. With Claudio’s instruction, all 4 kids skied difficult reds and even a few black runs by the end of 6 days! Claudio was thorough and clear with his instructions, and gave individual attention to each child to make sure they got the most out of the week. Claudio also made sure that we experienced the entire resort- I think we skied every single run by the end of the week! Our 11 year old particularly took to skiing and with Claudio’s encouragement she expertly skied black moguls. She is so motivated after this week that we are looking at ski clubs for her back home in the UK. I cannot thank Claudio enough for taking our kids from non-skiers to almost advanced in just 6 days. We cannot wait for our next family ski trip!

Pros. Organized. Clear and fair pricing. Responsive to inquiries. Cons. Ski instructor was average. They were kind and genuinely trying, they just weren’t very good. It seems that one’s experience with this school depends on one’s luck, and whether or not you get a good or mediocre instructor. Unfortunately, we got the latter.

We spent a family week in Zermatt in February 2023 where our 7-year old son attended ES Ski School with Tilde from Sweden as his instructor. She did a great job making him progress his skiing skills during one week and making him feel comfortable to ski the red slopes. Communication with her also went very well and we will definitely ask for Tilde again when we return to amazing Zermatt ski resort next year !

I had an outstanding experience with Summit for a private snowboarding lesson. The guide that they provided was superb. He had pleasant personality, knew the mountain and was an expert rider. In one day he was able to show me most of the mountain and teach me some new skills. I highly recommend the school to anyone interested in learning how to ski or snowboard.

I had a full day private ski class and I really enjoyed the experience. Having an instructor is a great way to explore the area. I would have stayed on the blue paths without a guide. My instructor, Britanny, was really helpful. She gave me the right tips and excersices to improve my skills. By the end of the day I could clearly notice an improvement and I felt way more comfortable on the skis. 100% recommend.

Top ski lessons. I booked lessons at summit school the second time and had (again) a great time. I lesrned a lot and the course was a mixture between ridibg together and lessons to gain confidence and practice the skills.

My wife did a ski lesson with Bernardo and she really loved it. He listened to her and understood how to build up her confidence and give her the tips to practice on her own after the lesson. Bernardo also went out of his way to answer all our questions and gave us a detailed itinerary for our second day so we can maximize our time on the slopes!

I highly recommend Summit. Erica took our needs into serious consideration when pairing us with a guide. I ended up skiing with Henry one day and Dan two days. I can’t say enough about their positive outlooks and friendliness. Their instruction is bar none. Tremendous skiers and knowledgeable trainers, you can’t go wrong with the whole outfit. A+ company.

We hired Summit to orient our group of 7 very experienced skiers on our first trip to Zermatt. What we got was one of the best days of skiing we’ve ever had (7100 M vertical!). We were very lucky to have had Chris, a 20+ year Zermatt instructor/guide. Our day was an amazing mix of tons of great terrain, history, geography, photography, and helpful ski tips for each of us. His detailed tips for tackling Cervinia (lifts, trails, and restaurants) was an added bonus. A big thank you to Summit and Chris for the greatest day! The scenery didn’t hurt either.

Skied 3 days in Zermatt and booked Summit for all mornings. They were very easy to book and communicate with as well as accommodating us. Had 3 different instructors and all of them were highly experienced and knew specifics on how to improve. I would recommend and use again for future trips to Zermatt!

A quiet street featuring old houses of Zermatt, where you can walk past and admire the wooden buildings. Mostly is just looking at the exterior, but it's good enough. No entry fee but just a historical street.

When in Zermatt, be sure not to miss out on this little street. Even though it's just one left turn away from the "Bahnhofstrasse" and right smack in the middle of the village, you might easily miss it, since the first few meters do not look like you might picture it. But then after a few steps the old wooden buildings will pop up. They are dated back to the 16th Century....making them around 500 years old. Mostly they are made from larch wood, containing lots of resin, which makes them very strong and also keeps away parasites. Many of the buildings are still inhabited and used. So be respectful to the buildings and its owners and keep the noise level low. Between some buildings you even can catch a great view of the Matterhorn (on your right when walking down). Of course there are always visitors present, but if you're just a bit patient and wait a few minutes you can get some pics without anybody on it. Most visitors rush through this place. But if possible, take your time to fully appreciate this part of Zermatt.

The first historical record of the parish church of St Mauritius dates from 1285. It can be assumed that back then it was a small and modest place of worship. Over the following centuries, the church was enlarged and renovated several times. The predecessor of the current parish church was probably built in 1587 in the so-called Italian style. Originally the parish church had three Gothic altars. Following the custom at the time, these were replaced by baroque altars in the 18th century. On the south side of the church were the cemetery and the charnel house from 1651. The new church from 1913 Initially the people of Zermatt did not want a new church at all. But a local vote on 13 November 1910 paved the way for an ambitious new scheme. The architect Adolf Gaudy from Rorschach drew up plans, and on 6 June 1916, Monsignor Joseph Mariétan, Bishop of Bethlehem and Abbot of St. Maurice, consecrated the new church. Ever since, the parish has celebrated the anniversary of the inauguration of the church on the first Sunday in May. The church was painted in 1920, and the clock installed in the tower in 1925. Inauguration of the big organ in 1926 and three new bells in 1932 marked the end of construction. Today’s church stands further east than its predecessors. Complete renovation in 1980 To celebrate the 700th anniversary of the parish in 1980, the parish priest, Eduard Imhof, undertook a complete renovation of the church. Changes to the interior included removing confessionals and double benches from the aisles, taking away the pulpit, adding a celebration altar, replacing the Stations of the Cross and converting the baptismal chapel into a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The ceilings of the choir and vaulted nave were also painted. The painting on the ceiling in the centre of the nave, “Noah’s ark”, is by the artist Paolo Parente from Florence and also dates from 1980. Valuable artefacts The church of St Mauritius is listed in the Swiss Inventory of Cultural Property of Regional Significance because of its altars and baptismal font.

Beautiful Church located in the heart of Zermatt!

It's a living Catholic community with opportunities to attend Holy Mass, pray Rosary, observe feats of Saints (like Casimir's on 4 March). They hold services in local language of course, but they are also welcoming tourists. Priest seemed to be caring and dedicated leader.

Worth a stop inside to check out. Have a looks at the series of small paintings on the left side of the church that depict the story of Jesus' march to Calvary.

This is my first 4000! Not too difficult to climb from Cervinia but glacier equipment required, watch skiers in first part of road and take also mountain guide with you. Beautiful views to Swiss and Italian side - good weather required :)

As for many others here: that was my first 4k mountaineering)) Safe & quite easy climb: around 1,5h way to the top from Klein Matterhorn cable car station. Good place to start your alpine journey: to discover glacier climbing, harness & crampon usage etc Perfect for both beginners and to acclimatise before more difficult climbings Guide + Crampons, ice axe and other equipment still a must! Today there were several crevasses: you shouldn’t underestimate this either

Easy and very safe to climb and can enjoy amazing and unforgettable views from the top. If you don't have experience with using crampons, need to go with a guide.

Excellent start for Alpinism to acclimatise and for beginners. Never underestimate it still stays a mountain.

Visible from Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. A beautiful peak that complements the Matterhorn very well.

Beautiful view to the highest mountains uf Europe including Mont Blanc, Matterhorn, Monte Rosa and many more. Anyone can easily get there with good equipment and a good guide.

Gornergrat is the last stop of the Gornergrat Railway, which is the namesake of the entire railway. Here you can get a 360 view of the surrounding Alps, and you can also find other attractions here like a restaurant, observation deck, hotel, hiking trails, gift shops and multimedia Zooom experience. The view up here is gorgeous and the temperature in summer is comfortable for casual shorts and t shirt. The wind can gey chilly sometimes, so bring a windbreaker just in case. Aside from photo opportunities, what I like about this place is how people stack stones together all over the place to make these stone towers. Be sure to visit the back of the tower and take the short hiking trail for the full experience, and if you're feeling adventurous, you can hike down to the next station as well. Won't say that it's the top choice to visit in summer, as Matterhorn Glacier Paradise would be my first, though if you like hiking and railway ride then this would be a good choice.

If you're in Zermatt, this is a trip worth making. The train station is located in the middle of Zermatt. If you go after noon, you can get a ticket for $69 CHF instead of the full price. Given that the area was still covered in snow (snowing the second day), so I wouldn't be able to take the trail back down or explore much of the area around, and was not skiing/snowboarding, that was plenty of time to ride up, enjoy the views of the glacier, surrounding mountains, and the Matterhorn VR experience, and still get back down before the final rush at the end of the ski day. The first day (Friday), there were very few people at the top, maybe two dozen. The second day (perhaps because it was a weekend), it was definitely more crowded. You can get beautiful photos the entire ride up and, even more so, at the top. I'd suggest riding on the right/platform side of the train as it offers better views (Matterhorn, valleys, and mountains). Also, be aware that the windows in the train pull down from the top, so you can get better photos without light reflection off the glass.

Gornergrat peak and Gornergrat glacier and the observatory were the best experience during my visit in Zermatt. It offers unparalleled view on the Matteronhorn, Monte Rosa/Duforspitz, Gorner Glacier and many more. I highly recommend to go right up to the top and hike down to Riffelsee.

This place gives you one of the best views of Matterhorn. I took 4 hours with some hiking near the lake. The round ticket is chf 110 without any discount. You can get down at any one of the five stations enroute Gornergrat and hop on to the next train. The terrain keeps changing and gives you the options to hike in alpine garden. On top you can enjoy a meal or a drink overlooking the glacier And Matterhorn. Must do.

One of the most beautiful places I have visited. So much snow. Since we went late afternoon, it even started to snow. Just amazing.

What a magical ride to gornerghat.. The summer views are amazing but winter view were equally perfect.. The train ride up top was so totally worth it.. Nature played a beautiful hide and seek game with us but we managed to see glaciers while comfortably enjoying our coffee

If one has only a few hours in Zermatt, then I would recommend Gornergrat over Glacier Paradise. The views of Matterhorn are equally fantastic. There are exciting circular walks There are plenty of outdoor benches for relaxing. It is likely to be warmer One is unlikely to experience high attitude impact You can use the toilet for free!

One of the best places I have ever been to. Definitely recommended for a nice view of Matterhorn! Tickets are expensive but definitely worth it.

An incredible peak with breathtaking views of many other Alpine summits, and a glacier that's awe-inspiring in its enormity. At the top, you'll find a hotel, restaurants, a small chapel, beautiful viewpoints, and numerous trekking routes. The train journey is truly spectacular, and you can feel the sudden elevation of 1500 meters that the train covers during its 20-something-minute journey. It's impressive. It wasn't freezing at the top in August, but it was certainly chilly in places, especially for kids. A place truly worth visiting. The views are picturesque, and if you have the energy, plan to descend on foot to at least one of the lower train stations.

Breathtaking view, definitely would recommend everyone to do it once in a lifetime. Better view than the Matterhorn itself.

The starting station for the Gornergrat is located opposite the Zermatt main station. Once you reach the summit you have a wonderful view of the Grenzgletscher, Monte Rosa, Matterhorn and much more. From the station Rotenboden you can reach Igloo Village, which is very pretty, but on foot it is quite difficult, especially to walk back due to the ascent. Not suitable for everyone.

Best attraction in Zermatt. If you only have one day, then come here without hesitation. From the top station you have breathtaking views on the Monte Rosa massif, glaciers and one of the best views on Matterhorn. You can hike a couple of station down to find different angles, the hike is extremely easy.

If you are in Zermatt and want to have a hiking program, Rifflesee is one of the best places for you. You can Either get the tele-cabins from Zermatt to the Riffleberg Station (Don’t forget to change the line in Furi-Station; otherwise the cabin you take in Zermatt goes directly to another station and you may get extra charges!).You have this option to buy a one-way ticket or two-way ticket. By buying a one-way ticket you have to hike all the way back (it is a 3-4 hours hike, which is not that easy).From Riffleberg Station there is a 20-30 minutes hike to Rifflesee. The lake is very very beautiful and you can have a great view of Matterhorn (one of the highest mounts in Alp). I recommend a photo from the lake with a reflection of Matterhorn in it 😇. In this area you may also have the chance to visit the most lovely and friendly animal in the world; Black Nose Sheep (Valais Blacknose) 😍😍 My recommendation is definitely to go and find the flock (and visit them 🥰🥰🥰 They are amazing! (They are usually in this area.) Just keep in mind that the Tele-Cabins are working till 18 during summer.

I took the train from Zermatt up to Riffelsee to do a photo safari as I heard that it was a great place to see the Matterhorn reflected in the lakes. Once there I began to drink in the breathtaking views all around me. I was surprised to encounter a large flock of Black-nosed sheep. They were so talkative and were such a delight to watch. As I walk down the trails I came across the lakes there. Their still waters reflected the Matterhorn and the surrounding terrain like mirrors. It was a fabulous place for photography of the Alps and of several glaciers. If you want together a better view of the Matterhorn than what you can see from down in Zermatt, then I would recommend visiting Riffelsee. It is a must see place to visit in Switzerland!

Get off at Rotenboden station, walk down to the lake about five minutes. There is a toilet near the station. Keep your tickets (you need to get out and in). The view of the mountains and the lake will depend on the weather, as you are lucky. The lake is small.

Riffelsee is an alpine lake above the town of Zermatt in the canton of Valais, Switzerland. It lies below the Riffelhorn at an elevation of 2757 m, and has a surface area of 0.45 ha. The lake can be reached from Rotenboden railway station (2815 m) on the Gornergratbahn mountain railway. A definite must visit on a clear day for its breathtaking view of the glacier and also the reflection of Matterhorn. Can get crowded during peak periods like in summer. Pair it up with your hike to have a complete experience, though you can also choose to have a short detour from Rotenboden. We hiked from the lake to Riffelberg and it was totally worth it. Bring some snacks and drinks for a romantic picnic experience!

Riffelsee offers a breathtaking view on the Matternhorn mountain. If you can - visit it at the early hours when the lights are good and there is no wind.

Riffelsee~ picturesque Riffelsee is a perfect place to enjoy the beauty of nature while taking photographs. The two hills and in between water body and the reflection of the whole thing is a combo one shouldn’t miss. But to enjoy all this, it should not be a cloudy weather, which is a big challenge at this height. As we were not so lucky, we got some clouds, but still the place and the pictures are really awesome!! A must visit place!

A great service to view the Matterhorn and the surrounding district. Do you have two ticket pricing and you can use your Swiss pass to obtain a 50% discount. To visit all the sites you will have to change approximately half a dozen different chair lifts and gondolas. When traveling on the system ensure that you keep your ticket handy because you’ll need to scan it both on entry and on exiting.

We are in Zermatt now. On Sat we bought skipasses for 6 days. The lady at the counter asked whether we wanted skipasses only for slopes in CH or IT as well. We bought for both. We were not told though that the connection with Italy was closed on that day so we wouldn't be able to go there! Moreover, we are here for the 4th day and the connection was not opened even once since we came. We have 2 days more.. We'll see if we manage to go to IT at least once (at the price for 6 days of course)! To add to that, they tend to close lifts which were open on the same day, so don't plan where you will go as you may be surprised! Matterhorn app to check if cable lifts are open is a must if you decide to come here. We are in Switzerland for the first time and it's totally not worth coming here. Usually we go to Austria and we've never had such experience. We'll definitely won't come back here because of such poor customer service. Just to be clear, it's not that they are not opening because of poor weather. The weather is amazing! We are going to claim our money back for services not used as they were not offered throughout our stay, we'll see how it goes, stay tuned..But from what we are told, even by Swiss, that's a regular practice here... Throughout all the year!

Incredible ski resort. Very vast. You can ski over to Italy on a nice day and enjoy endless long groomed runs.

Could improve infrastructure, check Austrian resorts for ideas. Also this Friday a lift Findeln - Eja broke down and they just let people wait for more than an hour at -15 degrees, everyone was freezing, and no assistance at all, that’s very bad customer service. Finally they managed to get the lift back running at reduced speed.

The Matterhorn is fantastic. Such a special place. The town of Zermatt is quaint and enjoyable. Lots of little shops and restaurants to enjoy.

Surcharge for „high-season“ lift tickets, but only 10% of lifts/gondolas are open. Slopes that are open, are extremely overcrowded and not prepared at all. Feels like rip-off!

Covid unsafe and not transparent on tickets and horrible customer service. Closed the gondolas and opened the old tram to save money, who cares about Covid. Bought a ticket that clearly states conditions, which they do not honor, because Internet conditions say something different. Even when they do not provide correct information, they still bame the customer and will send them in circles, but never fix the issue.

Our group from the U.S.A. was blown away with all aspects of the new lift system. Of course, the views defy all superlatives but a nod to the engineers who constructed the lift is well deserved. As a skier of almost 60 years I'm not easily impressed...I was very impressed!

This is the first cable car in the ride to the top of Europe to the glacier Paradise ice cave, the experience is incredible there is also a restaurant at the top. Tickets can be purchased at the base of this lift.

Slopes in my opinion is more advanced than for beginners. Only few blues and most red slopes.

It was a great experience to travel up to 3883m above sea level and on top of that the amazing scenery plus the Matterhorn

Trip itself was amazing, and views were breathing. The station itself is clearly still under construction, much left to be improved. Future fellow travellers will much enjoy it once it's finished.

I really love Zermatt and the whole skiing area, but have to give this review to Bergbahnen. In a bad weather (experienced during Easter 2024), there is no refund, plus on 2 days intentionally exactly 5 lifts were open so that a claim cannot be made to the insurance either.

It was an expensive day out. 30chf to park. 16chf return train journey and 120chf to ride up to the glacier paradise. You need good weather and visibility or I wouldn't recommend spending the money. We were lucky enough to see it all. Stunning views
