Eremo Francescano “Le Celle” In June we visited Cortona, we made a pilgrimage to visit Eremo Francescano “Le Celle”. The Hermitage is beautiful, situated on a steep valley with a stream running through the center. When we were there, the capers were starting to bloom. Capers grow anywhere from rock walls to open ground with a lot of sun exposure. Two monks were harvesting the capers and explained the entire process. These surroundings are beautiful and very peaceful, we enjoyed our visit. This was just another reason to visit Cortona the home of Frances Mayes, the author of Under the Tuscan Sun. A very interesting museum showcasing the rich history of the Etruscan people from their origins to present day. Lots of exhibits, including a separate Egyptian collection. Whilst it is great for adults the written description is very academic and heavy so will be easily lost on children. If it were more interactive it would be an outstanding museum. Worth visiting nevertheless.

The museum is big, we went with high expectations. Unfortunately, however, there are few exhibits, especially of the Etruscans. If you don't have a job in Cortona, it's not worth a special visit.

Nice old town, in the past very dreamy and quiet, oozing the Tuscan atmosphere. Now touristic, sometimes too touristic. Maybe because of the book&film "Under the Tuscan sun"; there is even a "UtTS" tour, for those who would like. Whatever you do, don't forget to stop and enjoy the view over the valley from different places. On Saturdays there is a small market.

Thefortress is a must-see when visiting Cortana. The walk up from town is a workout to say the least, but the views from the top made it worth it. To walk back into history is such an interesting experience. The only down side was the Cafe was closed because it was slow. I didn't mind having the place to ourselves.

Nice fortress located above Cortona. Entrance was 3 euro with a student's discount. Regular price is 6 euro. I am not sure if that's because of the photo exposition or if it was normal. Nevertheless you get great views from this high point .

I can hardly imagine a better family vacation experience. Adults and kids all had private bedroom suites and nobody had to share a bathroom. We ordered calamari from a restaurant down the hill, with outstanding quality delivered to our front door. Stargazing at night, while sitting by the pool, we also had a strong WiFi signal to connect us with loved ones in USA. Every door and window was of the best quality, the A/C blew cool air throughout the house. We also used washer and dryer in the basement, where the wine cellar was stocked with the best Croatian wines, Prices were market, with no mark up for guests. All in all the Lun experience was unforgettable. This is the best of everything. For anyone who needs a supermarket, nightlife or Michelin level restaurant, Novalja town and Boškinac winery are a 20 minute panoramic drive with coastal vistas..

This is not the house from the movie, that one was different. This is the real holiday home of Frances Mayes and thus the inspiration for her books. It is gorgeous to look at, even though it does seem kind of awkward to sit there and stare at someone else’s property. Nevertheless, definitely worth seeing, it made me very emotional as I truly love her books.

We walked to this lovely home from the Fontana dei Delfini in Cortona by navigating using Google Maps (walking mode). The 20 minute route (one way) takes you on a narrow trail through shrubbery but with great views. Fun to see the famous house in person.

We've had a great experience today! The owner taught us everything about the process of making their wine and afterwards we've tasted 6 delicious wines. We felt very welcome and at home. When it started raining we could stay longer and drink some more wine and had nice conversations with the owner until it was dry again (we came by bike). The wineries in Cortona are hidden gems of Italy! We sampled about five different wines and loved them so much we joined the wine club which allows us to get the wine shipped to the US. The Vin Santo was our favorite! Staff was also super generous and made us feel very welcome.

This is a fantastic church situated in the heart of Cortona and holds relics related to Saint Francis of Assisi in its on-display collection. Visiting in March 2016 we found this church to be an un-crowded gem that was a little off the well worn tourist trails. Well worth a visit when in Cortona.

It was the most amazing 6 days spent at the most beautiful, relaxing and friendly resort. Great wine and such welcoming friendly service!

The pictures don’t reflect the beauty of this place enough. It’s the perfect Tuscany countryside getaway. The breathtaking views from the poolside were only topped by the evening stroll to dinner where we were immersed in the most perfect romantic garden. Dinner was delicious and every course gifted us with such taste. We even enjoyed a late dinner billiard game in the restaurant lounge. Couldn’t be happier and more content with our stay, I will definitely recommend this place to all of my family and friends and will come back as soon as I can.

Desiree was wonderful in giving information about the winery, the process, and even how Mario Baldetti set the foundation for the wonderful tradition and love for the work to produce the highest quality of wine. We enjoyed every moment of our tour of the Winery.

We recently attended the Syrah Tour at Cantina Baldetti and what a delightful experience! Our guide, Desiree was patient and courteous throughout. She answered our many questions with a great command of English, and the pace of the tour was spot on....perfetto! Oh, and on top of all that, the wine itself - Crano Syrah - was excellent and as a result, 6 bottles of the 2015 are shipping to the UK soon!

Our tour and tasting at Baldetti was outstanding. We learned so much about their land and grape varietals and the winemaking and wine storage process. The wines we tasted were exceptional. The grounds are gorgeous and the hospitality was top notch!

On a recent trip to the Cortona area of Tuscany, Italy in September, six girlfriends and I visited the Baldetti Winery (Azienda Agricola Baldetti Alfonso; Loc. Pietraia 71/a - 52044 Cortona) for wine tasting and a cooking class. I made the reservation about a month in advance. From the minute of arrival, the Baldetti family and the staff at the winery could not have been nicer. Gianluca Baldetti greeted us, then turned us over to Marketing Director, Giulia, who translated the entire day. Paola Baldetti, wife of the winery owner, taught the cooking class. We had coordinated in advance for one of the participants who is Vegan, and the entire day flowed very smoothly. Generous pours of all the wines they make at the winery were served throughout the class and at lunch. The meal was a traditional Sunday afternoon Italian dinner, even though the class was on a Thursday. Dishes included homemade pasta with beef ragout; for the Vegan, the pasta was without egg with a tomato/garlic sauce. The main dish was roasted pork loin stuffed with sausage, pistachios and apples along with potatoes roasted with olive oil and rosemary; for the Vegan, Panzanella, a Tuscan salad made with bread, olive oil, and local fresh vegetables plus tofu. Dessert was Harvest Cake, a buttery, crumbly cake baked with Paola’s homemade cherry marmalade in between the layers, traditionally served during the grape harvest. For the Vegan, dessert was fresh fruit salad. The cost was very reasonable at 75 Euros each which included several glasses of champagne and various rose and red wines, along with the cooking class and the food. Do the wine tasting and if you have the time, the cooking class. It was scheduled from 10 am to 2 pm but we left around 3 pm after eating, a winery tour, then buying wine and olive oil to take home or ship. The winery even sent us home with the leftovers which we ate the next day on our final day in Italy. Wine was shipped quickly and arrived in about a week or two after the trip ended. The Baldeti wine lunch took 3 1/2 hours for 2 courses. I bused my own table expecting a 3 rd course with vino santo to arrive . It never arrived.Desiree was busy with the Van group the entire time. A major disappointment and waste of time.
