Visiting the Campanile San Nicolò is an excellent way to see Lecco and Lake Como. This is Lecco’s top tourist attraction but is not always open. Hopefully, you will be lucky enough to get the opportunity to see it. Reservations can be made in advance. Its a 400-step climb to the top. I visited the tower on a clear winter day and got some incredible pictures of the lake and surrounding urban and natural landscape. The climb starts with an iron spiral staircase and then leads to a stone staircase that hugs the wall of the tower. There are several points where the guide stops to talk about the history and construction. The pauses are long enough to catch your breath and rest a moment. NOTE: To get to the upper terrace you must climb an iron ladder. It’s not for everyone, some people stayed behind on the lower terrace. The views from the top are spectacular!

We were there last week to hear the Bellagio Festival Orchestra. Sadly the acoustics were so lively it was virtually impossible to enjoy the music, so we got to know more about the Basilica. Cards around the best parts describe the origin and history in Italian and English. I particularly like knowing that one of the chapels dates to the Fourteenth Century and remnants of frescoes are still there, but the rest of the building date from the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries. Most of the marble appears to have been painted to look like the real thing and done very well resulting in a warmth lacking in many churches.

The biggest and probably the oldest Church in Lecco. The architecture inside the church is really good and so are the paintings.

Cozy little Rifugio on mountain Resegone. If you want to enjoy some breathtaking scenic views, take hiking route 1 (just consider that it’s an expert level, some parts are too steep). We had a very warm welcome by the Rifugios staff when we got there. Good food and drinks, everything you need after 3 hours of hike. Stefan will impress you with his homemade selection of liquors :)

Bear in mind that on the way back, if you decide to go to the west side, the trail is not well marked nor signed. So ask anyone you see or prepare in advance the trail. After sometime, the road seems to be tougher. We even need to climb the rocks. The funny thing was, we didn't had any proper trekking shoes and trekking poles. Even though it was harder for us, we continued our journey. At some point of time I became a bit afraid,but the visuals I enjoyed was like a lifetime experience. We continued the journey taking photos and videos. Through our hiking mountain goats were accompanying us. Within 2 hours, we completed around 75 percent of our hiking. Afterwards the path was fully covered with snow and we couldn't continue our journey. Then we came to realize that this way is not used by anyone as it is filled with snow. Then with a broken mind, we start descending the mountain. Climbing down was literally very tough as it was very steep. Carefully we climbed down and reached piani di erna. Then we started asking to our friends about the way to hike. At that point of time, we came to know that we had choose the wrong way to hike in winter.
