Stunning interiors! Don’t miss out the underground of the cathedral as well
It’s a lot of steps to go up the tower but there is something to see on each floor as well as to catch your breath. It is really worth paying to see the tower which includes access to the Baptist part. But the Tower makes you really look at the clock which is far, far advanced to anything we have still and it still works in part. Plus the great views of the city at the top. The cathedral itself is a must too including the crypt and really a great respite from the heat.

This church is really beautiful. The frescoes were impressive. There are many beautiful paintings. We were able to walk through the church at 8:30 am, when many other places in Cremona did not open until 10 am. We were glad we got to see it.

Great place to visit, the tower climb is a must, there are things to see during the climb, giving the visitors time to catch the breath. Lots of art inside the Cathedral and the Baptistery is also worth the visit.

A fantastic cathedral. We went to mass which was incredible with voices of the choir like angels. And what a beautiful church. The art is beautiful. Plan on at least an hour for a visit. Longer if you attend mass.
This place is wonderful, the Torrazzo is the 3rd tallest brickwork bell tower in the world, was constructed in 1309. the view from the tower is astonishing
Imposing and vast, much more than you might reckon for a relatively small city as Cremona. The inside is richly decorated (many reinassance artists contributed to its beautifully preserved frescoes) and the vault awe-inspiring.
The church is free to visit - the rest of the complex, for example the bell tower, is not.
Don't miss the floor mosaics in the crypt!

Interesting place. Although I am not into this music it was a nice place to see and learn about it.
And seeing some original Stradivaris is something Special.
Visiting Cremona and particularly the Museum was something that I didn't necessarily have high on my hit list of Italian things to do... However... after strolling through the splendid museo, and then paying quite a small additional fee, I was treated to perhaps one of the most memorable and ethereal experiences of my life, and certainly of my travels. Lena, a violin virtuoso, played one of the museum's prized Stradivari's, for a good hour and it quite literally moved me to tears with the magnificence and splendour of it all. Truly stunning.
I was fortunate to be one of just a couple of visitors that day/sitting... So it was as if she was playing just for me.
And the acoustics and aesthetics of the auditorium are wonderful too.
Seriously recommend anyone to go out of their way to visit and experience this.. especially if you have a remote interest in stringed instruments. And for those of you who are enthusiasts... This may very well be your paradise.
An interesting morning spent in this museum. It’s small and will take you no more than 1 hour on a leisurely pace. €12 gets you a holistic understanding of why Cremona is the home of the greatest Luthiers ever - Stradivari, Guarneri, Amati.
A highlight of Cremona. Great museum, closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (I think). Checkout the website for times of the daily recitals of the Stradivarius instruments. Has an amazing auditorium with frequent concerts.
Icredible instrument building art by the Cremona Maestros to be seen. Recommendation to be there at 10, opening time, later the museum becomes crowded...

I have wanted to visit Cremona for a very long time. In my opinion; this museum was worth the wait.
Very modern, organized, staffed, clean and so much more. The staff is amazing. The quantity of instruments was way more than I expected. I thought it might be a 1-2 hour visit. I could have spent all day there. We were there for 4 hours and I still felt I was missing something.
I would advise to watch the movie “ The Red Violin” just to get the nostalgia blood going prior to going.
BTW: We were there on a Sunday, walked right Ina got tickets there. Even the staff at the reception/door/counter was very nice.
I will remember this visit for the rest of my life.
Although artistically well laid out, art often wins out over function and communication here. The parts of the violin should come first before the development of the instrument which is given only a short amount of space. The audio tour is nearly necessary as the descriptions are terse and often in incomplete sentences. Many displays tell you nothing other than which number you should be listening to, and yet the audio device is extra cost. If you really want to know the history of violin making i recommend googling it. They also have drawers of paper designs but you’re not supposed to open and look at them without official assistance which they don’t offer either.
Interesting and compact experience at Cremona, the city and origin of violins. Several stradivari violins and cello are exhibited in the museum. Recommend to not only people who play string instruments but also to the general public, a place where you can learn about the history of violin manufacture. The auditorium opens only when there are performances and recitals which are at 12:00. Ticket price is reduced at 9 euros for people under 19 or university students (ID needed for proof). Audio guides are free of charge and are available in English.
Wasted potential. If you don't know anything about string instruments this is your place but if you are already a professional musician you have probably seen more antique instruments than this museum has. Also the bookstore has irrelevant souvenirs. If you are already in Cremona or Italy this museum is worth going to, but don't come here to just see the museum.
Amazing exhibition of violins, cello and basses. When you see exhibits that are several hundred years old, your breath melts away (Stradivari violin from 1715 etc). A very powerful genius loci.
This was an exceptional museum with very knowledgeable staff and wonderfully curated collection of instruments and documents. We LOVED it. The architecture and layout of the museum is fantastic too. We stayed for about 2hours and wished we had more time to fully enjoy all this museum had to offer.

The Museo del Violino (Violin Museum) in Cremona is a musical instrument museum that displays both modern and historical pieces, including famous string instruments by Antonio Stradivari, Guarneri del Gesù, and Andrea Amati.
Opened to the public in September 14th, 2013, the Violin Museum is housed in the Palazzo dell’Arte, an imposing Fascist era brick construction built in 1941 after a design by architect Carlo Cocchia, renovated after a design by the architectural practice Arkpabi to house the new museum.
The Museum's historical collection, one of the most prestigious in the world, includes pieces by famous Italian violin-makers such as Andrea Amati (Charles IX violin, 1566), Nicolò Amati (Hammerle violin, 1658), Antonio Stradivari (violins Clisebee, 1669; Cremonese, 1715; and Vesuvius, 1727; and Stauffer ex Cristiani cello, 1700), and Giuseppe Guarneri “del Gesù” (Stauffer violin, 1734).
The modern and contemporary collection includes bowed string instruments by Italian and international luthiers that, since 1976, have been awarded the first prize in the Triennale Internazionale degli Stumenti ad Arco, one of the world’s most important violin-making competitions.

El Battistero di San Giovanni Battista de Cremona es un edificio destinado al rito del bautismo cristiano, que data del año 1167 y está situado junto a la catedral de esta ciudad, cerrando el lado sur de su plaza principal. Este majestuosa construcción medieval tiene 34 metros de altura y un diámetro de 20,5 metros; su planta es octagonal, lo cual tiene connotaciones numerológicas y místicas relacionadas con el culto a San Ambrosio de Milán, además de simbolizar el Octavo Día de la Resurrección - y por tanto, el renacimiento liberados del pecado a través del Bautismo - y la unión del siete (el tiempo) más el uno (Dios). The central baptismal font (which is actually a cistern, in which the water blessed by the Bishop during the Easter Vigil was kept to administer baptisms throughout the year) consists of a monolithic octagonal basin of red marble from Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella, near Verona, work of Lorenzo Trotti (1527). It is crowned with a golden statue of "Cristo Risorto". (Resurrected Christ).
A trecento crucifix, which formerly presided over the main altar of the cathedral, dominates the altar located in front of the entrance. The Cremona Baptistery is a religious edifice in Cremona, northern Italy. It is annexed to the city's Cathedral. Built in 1167, it is characterized by an octagonal plan, a reference to the cult of St. Ambrose of Milan, symbolizing the Eight Day of Resurrection and, thenceforth, the Baptism. The edifice mixes Romanesque and Lombard-Gothic styles, the latter evident in the preference for bare brickwork walls. With a height of 112m, this is the 3rd tallest brickwork bell tower in the world. I have climbed a lot of church bell towers in many Italian towns, personally I think the view on the top is good, but not as spectacular as I had expected. But the tower itself is very well designed, with small "galleries" of different scientific interests spreaded throughout different floors, to keep visitors interested.

It is a really nice place full of nice shops and just a nice way to spend an afternoon.
A great place to have a nice view of the city and to know the history of this cool clock!
This is a must see for the beautiful view of the whole Cremona. The museum is a plus and is inside of the tower on the different tower floors. You learn about the history of the tower and also about time keeping and the universe. The walk up is not hard, the stairwell is wide (except the last part where there are street lights to organize the flow). The entrance fee is 10 Euros and that includes three other attractions around the city.
The Vertical museum in Cremona was interesting to visit. The context of the museum is within a beautiful piazza with a gelato place on the corner of the piazza. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes because the entire way up is all stairs. It’s a lot of steps to go up the tower but there is something to see on each floor as well as to catch your breath. It is really worth paying to see the tower which includes access to the Baptist part. But the Tower makes you really look at the clock which is far, far advanced to anything we have still and it still works in part. Plus the great views of the city at the top. The cathedral itself is a must too including the crypt and really a great respite from the heat.

When we visited it was quite full and we went due to the extensive list of wines availables and for the food. We found the place very noisy with high music and bad service. I am on my way back to Cremona for a second violinmaking short course at Academia Cremonensis because I had so much fun the first time I attended. I signed up for the first one with quite late notice and the directors and administrators of the school have been very accomodating and flexible each time. The teachers are experienced and thoughtful, the setting is lovely, everything you need is there. Bonus, you’re very close to the Museo del violino if you need to go and get some inspiration.
I had the privilege to be a student in this amazing place! Yes the place is fantastic, but what I received inside was on a different level!
I have had one of the most amazing experience in my life and not just what I have learned but the relationship that we build with everyone there will be for life!
