Sweet little hotel with a very friendly personal and a nice view from the 4th floor! Perfect for visiting Bamberg for a few days or just a weekend. The location couldn’t be better - it’s in the heart of the city and still very quiet.

The hotel at the centre of Bamberg. The furnitures is quite old and the extra bed was broken. The underground parking was big enough but it was quite expensive.

Overall it is a nice hotel in a great location within walking distance to some great sights and places to eat. Hotel staff were super friendly and accommodating. Room was spacious with a comfy bed, BUT there was a very strong sewer smell in the bathroom and the shower was small and in a triangular shape so it was difficult to have a shower. I would stay again

I stayed in this hotel for three nights and the staff was friendly during my stay. The room they gave me was spacious, but basically equipped, which is common for Ibis hotels. The bathroom was tiny and the holder for the shower head was broken, so it was uncomfortable to have a shower. The WIFI was fast and I liked the quiet location of the hotel not directly on the main shopping/entertainment street.

My husband and I arrived, during Christmas Market time. The concierge's name was Abdullah, who was very professional, personable and helpful. This hotel was close to the festivities and had underground parking. Parking fee was $20 euro for the parking, which was convenient not trying to find parking elsewhere or the possibility of walking long distances, with suitcases. The room and bathroom were very clean, location mostly quiet (in the middle of the night, there were people smoking and speaking loudly outside, which wasn't the hotel's fault), beds and pillows were comfortable and the temperature pleasant. If one didn't want to eat at the hotel, Cafe Luitpold was nearby with a delicious, fresh and nutritious breakfast. If we would travel again to Bamberg, we would consider this hotel again.

The only modern/budget hotel in the old town. Ask for rooms facing the street side (better view) and ending in 15 or 19 (larger). Not the best Ibis shower that I know (they're generally excellent), the shower floor levels with the bathroom (don't wash too enthusiastically), and there's a GREY shower curtain that doesn't let light it (now that's a first-timer!).

This is our 2nd time visiting this Hotel. Would recommend as everything was done to make a comfortable stay. The staff were excellent. Cannot fault the Hotel.

The central location is by far the best feature is this Ibis Bamberg Altstadt - you are just five minutes waking from Altes Rathaus, in the heart of the old town. The installations are very clean and functional. The bathroom is extremely small and they charge for the subterranean parking, which is something I didn’t see in the website. But anyway, in terms of cost benefit, it is definitely well worth.

Everything was great here!!! Breakfast, Clean rooms, quiet warm place, park for additional Euros, but not much. Excellent Staff service as they are very nice and kind. The location is another great item, very close to the most popular city tourist attractions. I do recommend it.

The cathedral of Bamberg is definitely one of the greatest buildings in the city. By the time we arrived there it was already closed, but we could appreciate the external architecture nonetheless; next to the cathedral there’s also a garden which is worth the visit.

Monumental cathedral with a lot of history and importance! Built in the 13th century - to the form as we see today - it's one of the most sacred buildings in Germany, and indeed from the outside the architecture is stunning distinguishing the cathedral by four majestic towers visible from most parts of the city. Even though the cathedral was under construction I was still able to admire its beauty, I especially appreciate the detailed Prince's portal on the side of the cathedral. From the inside it was a bit let down. Yes, seeing the horseman, the most significant work of art in the cathedral, alongside the organs and the interior was great, but nothing mind blowing - judging strictly from the design perspective, not the cultural heritage. There are simply more beautiful cathedrals around Germany. From up close I was able to see The Tomb of the Saintly Imperial couple and the horsemen, unfortunately the cathedra, papal tomb (the only place north of Alps with buried pope) and the fresco of The Second Coming of Christ at the apse were fenced, therefore not able to admire from up close in details. There is no organized tour inside nor you can go to one of its towers (let down for me as I like seeing places from above), but you can purchase a small brochure for 1 EUR to help you navigate through the place. Be aware that opening hours may vary due to masses (during my time of visit the cathedral was closed between 12:00 and 12:30). Free entry. Visited in July 2022.

The cathedral portrays Catholic over a millennium aga and the richness it offers through history of Church for the people of Bamberg. Monuments are nicely spaced out as the hall is large (with ongoing constructions of the podium). There's underground sitting place unfortunately locked and out of access to visitors as of yesterday. However you'll still find enough to go round and appreciate the beauty of it's architecture or see God in the splendor of how the people of Bamberg largely perceived as Catholics. Sure during mass one find another atmosphere to observe institution of church at service to it's members. However as visitor it's already enough to enjoy sightseeing. Nearby you'll find various attractions and city life, rose flower garden, eateries and museums. There's nothing to miss visiting this cathederal.

It is amazing to see a mixture of both Romanesque and gothic styles within the same cathedral. The four imposing church towers is a sight to admire from a distance. It has many interesting relics and an underground chapel, which makes it unique from other churches I have visited. It is a burial tomb of Henry II and Pope Clement II, which makes it the only church to have a Papal grave in Germany. Located on a small hill top, can be reached through a small walk from the old town.

It was stated in the history that the Bishop of Bamberg (that time) doesn't want to give any of his land to the citizens, then the citizen built on an artificial small island along river stream Linker Regnitzarm that marks between episcopal mountain town and bourgeois island town. Absolutely stunning piece of architecture and the most historical building in Bamberg. Completely full with wonderful detailed paintings on the outside wall. Built over an arch bridge, the location is really beautiful. The river flows by and a chain of bridges located next adds more to its beauty, from where you can admire the building. It is mostly crowded and if you need a solo picture of the Rathaus or yourself then you have to come in the early hours of the morning.

One of the main tourist attractions in Bamberg - worth seeing but timing is the essence! Beautiful building with stunning exterior façade, very busy during the day as people are just passing by and there are also way too many restaurants in the proximity of the building having seating all the way up to the entrance. Very touristy place, so it's worth visiting early in the morning and have a chance to take a decent picture and walk without crowds. I visited the indoor exhibition of Meissen porcelain, which in my opinion was amazing. Something unusual to see. I was alone all the time during a self-guided visit spread out on both floors. Most information was available in German, only a few in English, no audio guide. The rococo hall was nice, offering some nice views of the river and the main cathedral of Bamberg. Entry fee was 6 EUR and I had to lock my backpack in the locker. Temporary ceramic exhibition at the basement was great as well showing beautiful pieces. Unfortunately none of the staff was speaking English which was unusual for a tourist place like this, however they made sure I enjoyed my visit as they provided me with some printed material in English. I was unable to visit the rococo hall at my first attempt, therefore it was okay for me to return a few hours later without paying again for a ticket. It was truly amazing to see the staff trying and helping! Worth visiting and enjoy a little moment of quietness in bustling city! Visited in July 2022.

We were the first ones in the morning and since there was no one but us, we were very lucky and got a personal tour in English. The rose garden is nice but quite small and since it is free to enter, it was too crowded during our visit, regular visitors plus several tour buses with tourist groups.

A nice little historic museum to gawk at the lavish and awkward interiors of rich people's homes in olden times. Cribs: minor European royals edition. Rooms are mega cold tho. Bamberg is simply beautiful, charming, lively and little Venice adds to it. The river flowing, old bridges over it provides beautiful view down the river. A must visit if you r nearby Nuremberg.

Fantastic view and lovely to have a local beer on the top of the city, but the food was horrible. The ox cheeks were dry, bland, and smothered in a horrible sauce that clearly came from a can. I don't know why, but instead of some lovely white asparagus with lemon or clarified butter, they gave me over boiled asparagus smothered in a tasteless cream sauce, which, when combined with the gravy from the ox cheeks, was almost nauseating. The icing on the cake was the enormous flavorless potato dumpling which I explicitly asked not to have, as it is blasphemous to cuisine. I don't get why some restaurants in Germany don't even make the slightest effort with food.

The restaurant is located in the most important Bamberg tourist attraction - the Altenburg castle. Around fifty people can dine in, plus a couple of hundred seats in the beergarden. Good choice of beer, classic German food: meat, wurst, schnitzel. On Saturday lunchtime traditional German music band was playing inside.

A perfect experience after a hike up to the castle fortress (Burg). Excellent food and great beer (with a wide variety), and a super-friendly staff! We could have stayed for hours and wish we could go again!

Amazing trip up to this castle. You cannot see it from below and I didn't really even know it was up there except for the location on Google maps. There is a trail up the hill with a few meters with no sidewalk up a steep hill. Once you get there you're welcome with stunning views of Bamberg. Beer garden with food is your prize! Includes a rather large assortment of beer options compared to other local establishments. It costs 1 € to climb the tower, but other than that it's free!

Built in 16th century, still carries the fragments of history with a cobblestone courtyard and a large half-timbered building decorated with big baskets of blooming flowered. Standing there will definitely make you feel going back in time. A part of the movie Three Musketeers was filmed here in this courtyard. Located next to Bamberg cathedral and New residence so, you cannot miss this place.

It is free to visit and wander around but I did not particularly enjoy my time here - there was a huge podium built in the middle of the courtyard blocking the views, also many cars were parked here, huge trash cans and temporary construction housing were visible - making it less attractive than I could have been. I understand that might have been there only due to festivities. Nevertheless I did enjoy the stunning front façade of a building that is currently housing the historical museum (can be entered for a fee) and the views of the cathedrals towers. As of February 2024, It was being remodeled. But tourists can walk inside the church watching the view. Scenary of the downtown is quite nice. It is around more than 20 minutes from downtown. Because it is small town, it's not burdensome. But It is still totally up to you whether to visit in here or not.

We enjoyed our hike up to this lovely monastery. The views are amazing and the gardens around it are worth the trip to the top. The renovations prevented us from going into the buildings.

Highly recommended if you want to feel Bamberg from top. I have been here three times and this place never gets old or boring. I still feel the same adrenaline as I had felt during my first visit to this Monastery. The best view of Bamberg. It takes a good hike to come here but once you are on the top, you have a breathe taking view of Bamberg with the cathedral and residence shining in the background. Although the church has been closed for several years due to the restoration but it has a very beautiful, well maintained garden. It is refreshing to be up there. There are three cafe - restaurants on-site to refresh yourself one of which has a cool Biergarten with an amazing view. I would still recommend a coffee and cake.

Hilltop monastery with the second best views over Bamberg (after Spezial Keller beer garden). Lovely tranquil setting to enjoy the view while wondering through the gardens. Unfortunately the majority of the site is closed until further notice as a result of restoration work so you can't access very much. The church was off-limits when we went but nonetheless the garden areas are nice. The Franconian Brewing Museum is also based on site. I highly recommend stopping at one of the beer gardens for lunch or a drink as it's a beautiful setting.

Good for a walk from Dom to monastery. Scenic walk down to city center available. I recommend to book a table at "Da Francesco". Great food in a beautiful location.

Despite this, the church remains a stunning place to visit and receive blessings.

I visited Bamberg last Sunday and stop by at the church. It’s an impressive building so definitely worth to look around and of course TIPP go there an have a breath, cool down in this hot summer. I didn’t stay long because we just arrived in the town and were on our way to discover the UNESCO heritage site part of the city.

But yet the church is beautiful and come by a visit this amazing church and be blessed.

A rare brewery museum very well explained

A nice little museum. If you are interested in beer, get in and have a view. There is a lot of good information and nice objects/posters to see. It is just 4 euro. It is a bit dusty, and i think kids will get bored.

If you're interested in Franconian beer and everything associated with it, this is the place for you. The copy of the Bavarian Purity Laws alone made it worth my time! It's not huge and could benefit from some more multilingual signage for some of the more interesting/complex/historical exhibitions but the sheer amount of breweriana under one roof makes it a worthwhile stop off. There's also a bar so you can put your education into practice! I should add it isn't suitable for anyone with mobility issues or who can't do a fair number if relatively steep stairs.

Unfortunately the museum does not open between December and March, but there was no place explaining that. All informations I had read (including the city map and the board in front of the museum) did not explain clearly the museum would be closed. Inclusive Google informed the museum would be OPEN between 11h and 17h and we saw other groups of tourist (German's ones) making the same mistake. So the communication was not good!

We had a free hour, and enjoyed this small, but interesting collection of tools, machines, and memorabilia associated with brewing beer in the region. At the end of the tour, you can pick up a commemorative bottle of Suds to enjoy in the adjacent monastery gardens.

An excellent museum in Bamberg, Germany. It is a traditional museum, so don’t expect video presentations and screens. The museum is currently mostly in the German language, but if you like beer and the brewing process it is very easy to follow. It also has a tremendous beer stein collection! The museum sits on top of the Michaelsberg on the site of an old medieval monastery. The walk up the hill can be tough on the legs (for the older and very young). I believe cars/taxis can come up as well. Still, the views of Bamberg cannot be missed! The monastery, museums, and cafes atop the hill are worth the walk. I would recommend the Brewery Museum to anyone visiting Bamberg! Prost!

If you're an international tourist, it's not a good idea to visit this museum. Unfortunately just a handful of texts have been translated to English, everything else is in German, which is such a pity considering how large their collections are. Come only if you have seen the nice outdoor places Bamberg has to offer, or if it's a really rainy day. No credit card accepted at the ticket shop. But staff was friendly.

Officially known as Bamberg Cathedral of St. Peter and St. George, it is also referred to as the Kaiserdom or Imperial Cathedral. This cathedral houses the only papal grave in Germany after the destruction of Pope Benedict V's tomb in Hamburg in the early 19th century. Emperor Heinrich II and his wife Kunigunde are interred in a sepulcher near the entrance, while Pope Clement II is also buried here. Visitors, like those depicted in the reviews, appreciate the cathedral's stunning architecture, intricate paintings, and notable historical figures entombed within. Monumental cathedral with a lot of history and importance! Built in the 13th century - to the form as we see today - it's one of the most sacred buildings in Germany, and indeed from the outside the architecture is stunning distinguishing the cathedral by four majestic towers visible from most parts of the city. Even though the cathedral was under construction I was still able to admire its beauty, I especially appreciate the detailed Prince's portal on the side of the cathedral. From the inside it was a bit let down. Yes, seeing the horseman, the most significant work of art in the cathedral, alongside the organs and the interior was great, but nothing mind blowing - judging strictly from the design perspective, not the cultural heritage. There are simply more beautiful cathedrals around Germany. From up close I was able to see The Tomb of the Saintly Imperial couple and the horsemen, unfortunately the cathedra, papal tomb (the only place north of Alps with buried pope) and the fresco of The Second Coming of Christ at the apse were fenced, therefore not able to admire from up close in details. There is no organized tour inside nor you can go to one of its towers (let down for me as I like seeing places from above), but you can purchase a small brochure for 1 EUR to help you navigate through the place. Be aware that opening hours may vary due to masses (during my time of visit the cathedral was closed between 12:00 and 12:30). Free entry. Visited in July 2022.

It is amazing to see a mixture of both Romanesque and gothic styles within the same cathedral. The four imposing church towers is a sight to admire from a distance. It has many interesting relics and an underground chapel, which makes it unique from other churches I have visited. Beautiful place, very nice detailed architecture, interesting paintings and there’s actually a pope inside!! It’s in a pretty touristy historical area, totally recommended if you’re around.
