Amazing never before feeling at visiting this group of mountain Mahabalipuram Bhartiya puratatva vibhag tourist place one of the largest and most beautiful picnic place in Mahabalipuram site and so amazing tickets only 40 Indian rupees only or it's covered all mountain Mahabalipuram including Surya temple around 2km, my experience you not believe superb amazing, you can also park 🏞️🏞️ your vehicle 🚜🚑 paid or free 🆓 just for two wheeler 20$ or 4 vehicles 40 to 80 Indian rupees only I go there public transport and just Tambaram to Mahabalipuram just 45 Indian rupees per person only and MTC 🚌🚐 bus tickets available only 45 per person that's why I mention that like it if you want nearly spend your weekend just go for it... 😎😎🤘😎🤘🤘🤘🤘🥰🥰.

Mahabalipuram was quite an underrated town for us and thats y it took us by surprise. Its beautiful, ancient & so mysterious. Start off with buying a 35/- ticket, which covers all monuments. We first visited Shore Temple, unique in its own way. At a walkable distance are the rock sculptures, panch rathas, light house, krishna s butter ball and a lot more. We spent an easy 2 hours here exploring everything. Though this location is not marked right on Google Maps, this is just the location of Shore Temple. Nevertheless itll be fun to just explore the whole town on feet.

Very beautiful work done on stones which is really worth a visit. The best part is after so many years they are standing without any damage to the carvings, structures.

Amazing architecture and views from this place. All the monuments here are built by carving the rocks. One of the good things is the lighthouse here which is open for all at 10rs ticket price. You can go see it from inside and have a view of sea and the town

Beautiful architecture style and crafting seen on this temple and it is surround with beach in three sides. If I recommend then you have to must go and take a visit.

The place is well maintained. One of the best tourist places for seeing ancient rock carving and architecture view. But in hot sun we can't enjoy the place to see.

We reached Shore Temple at 6:00am and finished all the historical landmarks by 11:00am. I am glad that we are allowed to enter at 6:00am - this allows us to avoid the hot sun later in the day. Also planning to visit later in the evening to see the same landmarks lighted up. Suggestions for improvement: More toilets at various locations and maintain them well. Cleanliness is key. Maps at all important landmarks, showing the relative locations of other historical spots (with distances) will be very helpful.

Beware to avoid during summer heat and holidays else you’ll be drawn in the pool of people. You can hire auto for 100 bucks to go from one monument to another. Be sure to buy one ticket only for 40 bucks which covers all monuments for the day. Also pay only once 75 bucks for entry in the city.

Easy way to visit all monuments !! There are many monuments in Mahabalipuram and here is a easy and better way to visit them. You can start near Krishna's butter ball. Parking is available nearby. Not very spacious one but manageable. The entry ticket is 40/- for Indians and we can visit all the monuments with the same ticket. The list of monuments is as below (all within walking distance ) Krishna's butter ball Trimurti cave Ganesha ratha Arjuna's penance Pandavas Cave Krishna mandpam Other 2 places are located within 1-2 kms from this place. Pancha Rathas Shore Temple All the monuments close at 6pm except for Shore temple which is open till 9 pm.

This temple is more like a ruin. There is no god in the temple. Beautiful architecture. You have to buy tickets around 50 m away from the temple. Visit at night as the temple looks even more splendid because of the lights. You can see mahabalipuram beach from here. There is also a huge shopping area nearby.

It's buzzing busy here as we get tickets which cover 3 tourist spots. Street vendors, food stalls, toy stalls and more. The temple itself is guarded and the lights make it LIT after 6pm. The shore is lovely to watch in the evening and the air is good. The only problem is the parking and paying 80 for nothing. You can also find guides. It's 400 for foreigners and 30 for locals.

From here you cannot access the beach, for which you have to come back to entrance and go to beach. You must visit this sea shore temple in the night time and see the beauty of the temple in the decorative lights especially on the full moon day. I m sure you will see the beauty with mouth wide open. Parking is pathetic here. Any day any time, you will get stuck in the traffic. You have lot of parking, but the road is narrow to take a turn and park with the vehicles coming from all the directions. Better get down from the vehicles when u near the parking and let the driver take the headache to park his vehicle and when u come back call the driver to come out of the parking. We came here with a guide tour, the place was amazing. It is a little bit far from Chennai, but it js definitely worth to visit. If you don’t go with a guide there are some explanations written but they don’t explain much. Keep in mind that the entrance for foreigners is more expensive (like in many places in India).

Beautiful ancient location. We loved walking there during evening. I do not suggest to visit there at noon time which is really hot. For those who are used to Chennai heat, is not an issue. We particularly loved the street foods near the temple.

Firstly you need to purchase entry ticket to enter here and the ticket is valid for total of 3 places in mamallapuram. It's one of HERITAGE MONUMENTS. Everything is maintained and protected very well. It's a shore temple 🙏 but unfortunately the temple is seperated from shore😞😂, in order to protect the temple from sea, so we can't blame the management. If u need to see the shore of the shore temple you have to exit the temple and walk from the side way.

The temple premise is well maintained. Can take some beautiful pictures from here. The parking on the outside is cumbersome as you will have to hunt for the parking space by yourself. The road is narrow too which often gets blocked by heavy vehicles such as tourist buses. In the afternoon, it'll be scorching hot. So, make sure you bring your hats and sunglasses. An umbrella is also advisable, but since the temple is located beside the sea shore, you can expect some occasional winds.

Nice place to learn about crocodiles, turtles and snakes. The area is quite shaded with trees and one can also see various birds around. We also saw the snake education show where we learned about various snakes and their behaviour. Two hours will be good time to spend in this area . They do have small cafeteria. Do keep in mind that’s it is a private initiative so they have entry fee which is 100. Must visit specially for kids

Has a huge collection of crocodiles with some rare species, definitely a must to visit in Chennai. The show of extracting poison from snakes is good. Can be much better if they get more funding from Government and interested public.

Fun visit. A diverse set of crocodiles, Iguanas, Komodo dragon's, and a few snakes. Very good for kids and school children. It is well maintained though the parking is limited. Overall a good experience and would recommend to others for visit.

Madras crocodile bank, mahabalipuram. Lot of different types of crocodiles, snacks, turtles and lizards are kept here. But they haven't maintained it properly, it was not clean. Because the glass panel was too dirty and not clear. But a good habitat for the animals. This place has a wide variety of species of crocodiles and turbans snakes. It's a wonderful place for every age group. Fees for adult is 100 Rs and for kids 50 Rs. It's a wonderful place to watch reptiles. Crocodile and Alligator 🐊 present everywhere. The information board about it has provide all the details of the reptiles and its very good to know and read. It's almost break all the myth of the reptiles. The skin of the crocodile 🐊 has been kept as a tribute for the reptiles which came when the bank is started at 1976 and died at 2020. Fanatic place to chill out with families and best place for photography. Must watch place.

For kids definitely an entertaining spot, summer doesn't matter i guess since the place is fully covered by trees. Crocodiles of course are worth watching and you have turtles also. Snake park was closed. You have a night Safari for which you can book tickets in the book my show app. Definitely try the night Safari once.

Crocodile bank is an all time favorite for my son. He started admiring from his age 2 still going on at 12 too. Every time he has his own story to tell. This time about the comodo dragon. I love the place not only for crocodiles, snakes, turtles, birds but for the atmosphere and how they maintain it, it's always hygienic. They genuinely care about them. Some people show care by adopting. As a nature lover I have to admit the artistic carving on the stone benches and in the wooden name boards are a feast to our eyes. This place is a big treat for birdwatchers as it has so many different varieties that you can't takeaway your eyes off it. It's totally worth it and I appreciate you will definitely admire it and won't regret it.

It is a splendid place to visit. You can see a huge variety of crocodiles and other reptiles including snakes, tortoises, turtles, etc. There is also a snake extraction centre inside, where they will show the process of extraction of poison from a snake. There is a small tuck shop where you can buy snacks or drinks. At the exit, there is also a souvenir shop where there are a lot of toys, keychains, etc. Worth it !!

It was a great experience! Our guide Mani was very knowledgeable and showed us the whole park at leisure. It was well kept and it was a treat to see the crocodile being fed a whole chicken! Don't miss this park especially if you have kids!

All my excitement went vain seeing the maintenance of this place. Well there were so many reptiles and varieties of crocodiles here. Easy to find on Google, reasonable entrance price, clear boards history about the place makes this a must visit.some Staff are least bothered about anything while couple are good. Do visit this place to know about these wild animals and there life style, The best part of the visit for me was at the end watching the 14 feet long 30years crocodile in water was just awesome. But seriously maintenance has to get better.

Mondays are weekly off day. Get ready to be pestered by hawkers as soon as you reach the entrance of the Crocodile bank. The entrance fee of Rs 100 felt steep given the condition of some of the enclosures- dirty and mossy glasses. Car parking is charged Rs 20 separately- didn’t get a receipt despite asking for it with the reply “don’t worry, I’m here”. Many enclosures are adopted but still lack maintenance. The park has a nice tall canopy of trees, so most of the walk inside is under good shade. There is a separate areas where the Irula tribe folks give a live demo with the big 4 snakes. This area requires another 30Rs entry fee- 25Rs and 18%GST Overall, if one is okay with seeing wild animals kept in captivity, a decent place to spend a few hours getting to learn about them.

Its a one-time visit place if you're interested in reptiles and crocodiles and are interested in learning more about them. They have a large amount of crocodiles in there, though lazy but fun to watch. There are description boards every to help you identify the species of crocodile and know about them. Its not very large but gives you plenty to watch.

I’ve always loved crocodiles and alligators. When my husband and I found out about this place, we knew we had to visit! The entrance fee was reasonably priced and the enclosure seemed decently maintained. The animals look relatively well taken care of too. Removing 1 star because I’m not sure how to feel about the snake venom extraction that happens there. I’m no expert in that subject so I don’t know if it’s cruelty free.

This place is just next to sheraton grand chennai resort and spa. They have parking but it is jam packed. The ticket for per adult is 150 rs and child is 50rs. They have snakes to show people but they don't allow to click pictures of snakes. They only have majorly crocodile, alligator, chameleon, lizard, tortoise there to see. Don't go in afternoon cause all the animals take rest that time.

Student groups were there at the time of my visit making it impossible to get closer to the sculptures. The differential entry fee for Indians and foreigners (₹40 & ₹ 600) should be done away. It has no logic.

It's a better example of an archiological site than a temple. I prefer to visit in the early morning to avoid the sun and also we get advantage of golden hours for photography. We hired an auto for 600 for Two Hours to visit all the sites since we didn't take the vehicle One thing we missed in an early morning visit is the light house which is open after 10.30am

Visiting this Century old monuments was great ! Photogenic place! Can spend around 1-2hr inside. You can have your snacks/foods inside by sitting on the grass field enjoying the beautiful views. Sometimes having food inside not allowed when crowded. Do not pollute the environment. Do not carry foods/snacks packed in platics. Take your own water bottle.

I visited this place with my friends, not much more interesting like our books says, but you can enjoy by exploring every arts of architecture, it's make us to think how they are highly skilled in carved the rocks and architecture, when no crowd, it brings an ancient feel inside. There are lot of shops avaliable for purchase some seashore related goods, food and snacks. Restrooms are there for refreshing, you need to buy ticket before entering bcoz in front of gate ticket checker is there, Parking space also available for all type of vehicles.

It is stunning. And to think it's so old. For me, it left a deeper mark than the numerous more recent temples in the zone. The only problems were 1) that you had to buy a ticket for this, and another 2 sites, even if you didn't want to visit them, and 2) that there were so many people, that in each of my photos, there were other people's kids!

35 rupees entry fees for all the main attraction in this city which is best price. You can listen to the details of the any particular statues or art works by scanning qr code available everywhere through an app which is a good initiative and really helpful to learn about the sites and history of it. Most of the attractions are unfinished art works yet they didn't miss to amaze me. You need a whole day to explore everything here. Sunrise and sunset would be magnificent. Shore temple, Arjuna caves, pancha rathan are most important here to visit. But the others too has many more to see and enjoy such as beach. If you visit during non summer season you will never forget this place as during summer it is too hot. The area is so big and has sand inside .. there is entrance ticket for this temple which is Rs 40 ...with the same ticket we can visit shore temple and butter ball No entrance ticket for kids (less than 15 years) The five rathas are called the chariots of the temple... There are big trees inside the temple and these gives nice shady place to sit and relax and to the extreme last there is beautiful garden and to the back we can see the sea shore ... Big elephant and lion are big attractions for kids .. The temple is little demolished as we could not see the proper architecture on the walls but still the place is so beautiful to visit Opposite to this place we can see big statues made by people there using rocks...they are nicely crafted .... Mahabalipuram, tamilnadu Nadu, is a must visit place. The maintenance is awesome and clean. Entry Ticket cost is 40 RS per head we went along with friends and we enjoyed it. The garden atmosphere is also good. Vehicle parking is free. Even though we missed to visit the rock beach ⛱️ but we have to plan one more time for that beach and shoping place too. All the best

Firstly and most importantly there is no connection to pancha pandavas and pancha rathas 😎. So please don't think about it and don't get confused 😂. Places were well maintained, as per history there are two conspiracyies 1. Once kings were asked for the prototype to the architect so they might build these. 2. This is a well known conspiracy that our kings are very interested in showing the heritage so they asked architectures to build heritage sights like temples. But i believe the first one because you can see every sight in mahabalipuram was unfinished.

This is one of must visit place in Mahabalipuram where you can find Rathas of pancha Pandavas. Such a lovely place to visit and it will be always crowded during the weekends and public holidays. We took a guide for 1500 rupees and he explained all the historical things about the site. Even during the sunami, these sculptures were not impacted. Then you can just imagine the workmanship of the sculptures. It is just amazing and mind blowing. Please visit this place with family and friends. Take one ticket in any of the sites around the Mahabalipuram and you can use the same ticket to visit other sites like sea shore temple, Arjunana pennace, Krishna butter ball and few other places. It's very close to Krishna's butter ball just 700-800 meters walking. You have to pay an entry ticket of 40 rupees. Take some water bottle with you and there is no transport facility there. If auto are available they charge you a very high amount. A place worth visiting and tells you more about rock cut architecture. If you love history and monuments then definitely this place is worth visiting.

Amazing rock cut monuments. All of the rathas are carved down from a set of huge boulders. Four of the five belong to one huge boulder and the other one was a separate piece. All the rathas share a same base and the carvings are intricate and very well made. Makes for a fun weekend experience. Try the story trails app and have a guided tour to know more. It also has a step by step planned tour guide option for an amazing experience.

Was reasonably crowded for a weekday but was mostly used by visitors clicking pictures instead of exploring the architecture and the history of the place. If you're one going to explore the architecture, you'll have to simply walk around the place and avoid everyone clicking pictures to go up close and explore the monuments. Was here on a weekday and was also co-incidentally an excursion for a school trip and a lot of crowd exploring the place as part of their group visit to Mahabalipuram. You can visit this and the Shore temple with the same ticket, so make sure you don't forget the ticket in your car or throw it. Place is decently maintained and there are enough pop-up shops on the road for a quick bite or a coconut drink! Very friendly people too on the outside.

Visited this place at Mahabalipuram. The place is situated at the heart of the city and is a archaeological site having many attractions along with the butter ball. There other caves and monolithic temples and Rath in the same premises. The place is well maintained and really kept very clean by the local administration. Also the light house in the same premise is must visit place to climb upon enjoy the scenic view of the place and the coastline. The ticket charges are 40 per person in which u can visit all the archaeological site in the city. Be aware of the monkeys there.

It is a massive 20 feet high and 5 meter wide rock stands on a slippery slope of a hill on less than 4-feet base. It is called as Krishna's Butter Ball.🏀 According to Hindu mythology, when the great god Krishna was just a baby, he was fond of stealing butter. Following this tradition, the big orange stone has been likened to a giant dollop of purloined butter that the god dropped.

Well. There is nothing much to see by paying money for tickets IMO. We can see some old constructions and temples. This was good. But, loved this tower. If we climb it up then the view will be awesome 👍 Must try this one.

Awesome place to hang around. Under construction remains of temples just gives a feeling how much more man life's work left to complete a temple to be carved out of single stones. Generations of labour would have been taken. Place is well kept but still I could see people throwing plastic waste just like that like they don't care. I have been in Chennai for more than 10 years, but I never visited Mahabalipuram. Actually I planned multiple times to visit these historic places to explore and gain experience, but it took more than 10 years to come to this place. Unlike other tourist places, in Mahabalipuram we need to roam around to visit the different places. Earlier I thought of taking a single ticket to get a complete exploration, but the reality is totally different. When we reached/entered the bus stand we didn't know where to visit first and asked for parking. The local guy asked me to park the vehicle just opposite to the bus stand, later I came to know that the place was "Sea shore Temple". We parked our vehicle near that temple, and we first went to visit Krihna's butter ball place. Entrance fee was 40 rupees per head (below 15 years entry is free) and there was no extra cost for Camera. It was very hot Saturday afternoon, and the entire area was filled with hot sunlight. We slowly explored the places inside the premises. At the entrance, the great Krishan's butter ball welcomed us with its giant look. Right hand side we could see a rock temple which has a collection of sculptures and a few big trees. There was a wide grass lane where our kids could run and enjoy their time. We need to start exploring the place from the left side. We could see some bigger rocks and a few sculptures. Inside the premises, we can buy some snacks to settle down the heat, we bought some mangoes, cucumber, butter milk and water bottles. There was a museum located inside the campus, they charged 10 rupees again (but optional only), also to explore the lighthouse we needed to pay 10 rupees again. The terrible part is each time, we have to pay 20 rupees for DLSR cameras. Exploring light houses is up to the individual's own risk, the steps and the viewpoints are very dangerous. People who are keen on exploring the viewpoint along with kids please think twice before you step into the view point. We can exit after the lighthouse which leads to the way for five rathas mandapam. Overall its a good place to explore but personally I feel, this is not the place to explore during summer-it's very hot and we easily dehydrate very quickly.

Krishna's Butterball is a gigantic granite boulder resting on a short incline in the historical coastal resort town of Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu state of India. It's a must visit place in Mahabalipuram. The boulder is approximately six metres (20 ft) high and five metres (16 ft) wide and weighs around 250 tonnes. It seems to float and barely stand on a slope on top of 1.2-meter (4 ft) high plinth which is a naturally eroded hill and is said to have been at the same place for 1,200 years.

Architectural Marvel !! This place is a beauty of its own. You will be amazed by the architectural aspects of this. This has no relation to lord Krishna but it is just named as Krishna's butter ball. There is a big lawn in front of it where one can sit alone, with friends or family and spend some quality time. Summers can be bit harsh but winters and rainy seasons should do.

Had a good experience there. Tickets are fairly priced for indians. One gets access to visit 3 places with one ticket. The views from the above was nothing great to see but the climbing part was beautiful. Also there were many vendors on the way of climbing who were selling fresh butter milk and other refreshments. That was really good during the journey.

Definitely a must visit place. Descendant of the Ganges also known as Arjunas penance is pretty huge that it is difficult to cover all of it in a frame unless you take it from the other side of the road. It has very intricate carvings , it is surprising to see how it would have been possible during earlier times. Photographers are available there to take pictures,which is helpful considering the size of the boulder.

This place could have been better if the local administration had placed the facilities properly. First of all, the place is too hot and humid, a shaded pathway leading to it is really needed. If you have that, you can have people coming here on foot, from that narrow lane where people park their cars leading to traffic congestion. Second, people were going on the rocks, standing on them, just for some good pictures. Maybe that can be stopped, it's our ancient heritage.

Arjuna's penance and the Descent of Ganges is the name given to the largest stone carving in Mahabalipuram during the pallava reign. The gigantic rock is carved to show 2 instances. One from Mahabharata a well known Hindu epic . In this Arjuna one of the five Pandavas is shown to perform penance to please the Hindu god Shiva in order to obtain his astra.. And the other shows the Descent of Ganges river to earth from the heavens following the penance of kind Bhagirath. Whole carving is mesmerizing with intricate details carved on the stone . It contains 2 Monolith boulders with life size figures carved on them . Along with humans the carving shows intricately carved pictures of animals also.

Amazing stone structure from the ancient times. It is very close to Arjun’s penance, Krishna mandapam and Krishna’s ball of butter. It gets very hot during the day. So it is recommended to visit either early morning or evening. The entry ticket is same for all monuments- shore temple, descent of the Ganges, Krishna ball of butter and five rathas. Wear comfortable and cotton clothes as it gets very hot. The monuments are very well preserved.

Great museum,especially children will enjoy a lot. There are various types of shells 🐚 and from small pieces to big ones in Shell museum. After that u one can enjoy on seeing show items in Mineral Museum. Fish 🐠 Aquarium stall will attracts more by seeing different types of fishes here. Fish 🐟 spa is good. Final and greatest in the museum is Dinosaur 🦕 park, especially children will enjoy more by the moments and sound effects of artificial dinosaurs 🦖.

One of the best place to visit with your family. Per head 300 rupees for combo or we can buy the tickets separately. We can see different types and sizes of shell around the world in a single place. Also, we can buy the original pearl in the shops. Snacks are available inside the premises were OK. Dinosaur museum is good and it entertains the kids well. Best place to spend 2 to 3 hrs.

The last time I visited it was on weekdays so there was no crowd and I had vast time to explore inside this place. They had a huge collection of shells which was stunning. They had a small aquarium but the varieties of fishes and other sea living things they had were cool and mind-blowing. We spent around 500 at that place but it was totally worth it. I prefer going on weekdays with my family since it's totally free. Anyway, this is one of the most underrated and unexplored places near chennai. If you are planning to visit with your children, then this is the perfect spot for them to explore many things.

This place is perfect for hanging out with your little ones and getting them all curious. They've got an awesome collection of sea shells and pearls. But the real star of the show is the Dino museum, where you'll come across super realistic dinosaur figurines with lifelike movements. The shell display was absolutely fascinating. The owner has gone above and beyond to create this incredible collection. I was seriously amazed! You can totally skip the fish aquarium. The pearl museum, on the other hand, is a goldmine of knowledge about how pearls are made. Overall, it's an absolutely fantastic place for families. It's not just fun, but also an educational experience.

It was amazing to visit all the museums inside India Seashell museum. We were a group of 4, so we got a discount for buying 3coupons and got 1 for free which included Minerals, Seashell, Fishing, Fish, Pearl, Dinosaur and 3D art museum where 1 ticket costs 400INR. They’ve ample space to park your cars for free and a small cafe inside. We also purchased cute real pearl rings for about 1500INR.

I love SEASHELLS AND BEACHES. I was not aware of it but while in mahabalipuram got to know about it. This place has many things to enjoy with family but my only interest was into Seashells, they got a fantastic collection of them from across the world some which I haven't even seen in my lifetime. Incredible collection of sea shell with wide varieties of species from all over the globe. Pearl collection was excellent with rare sea specimens. Fish aquarium was impressive especially for kids to learn marine species. Dino world was a place fun filled facts for children to know about paleontology. Good place for spending some quality time for kids.

Good place to take your kids. There are some precious precious collection of sea shells, pesrls, fishes and many more in the museums. Finally there is the Duno museum. Realistic Dino figurines with Eye winking, breathing and other movement effects. Very nicely executed. There is also an Arcade place where most games doesn't work. Underwhelming. There is a cafe inside as well. Food is bit on the expensive side and the taste is not satisfactory. Should be okay for a quick bite. There's also shopping place where all kinds of shell craftsmanship is displayed for house interior enhancement. Overall a good place to visit with kids. Parking space is not so big with around 20 - 25 cars capacity.

I liked this place for Rs400 per ticket, 5 of us went and they gave me 20% offer. 2 to 3 hrs is sufficient to see all places inside. Not much crowded on good Friday. Easy to park cars. The place is clean & rest room is not hygienic.

Very very interesting place to visit … never thought we had such dinosaurs park in our country .. !! I recommend to take children and even grown ups to experience dinosaurs… Park is nearly maintained and staffs know so much about the history. They help us to know more about its history. This was nice place worth for the money paid. One can see physical simulators of variety of dinosaurs. Kids will sure enjoy this place. One feel touch and feel the moving dinosaur. The feel was great. Sounds were also provided to give real feel.

Many of us would have missed visiting this place. Kids can easily spend around 3-4 hrs easily there. The shell museum is amazing, they have gaming area, another 3D visual reality arena, and majorly huge sized working dinosaur models. Kids are sure to get excited over the same. Worth the visit.

An entertaining diversion for adults and children alike. There are multiple "museums" on location, and you can buy a ticket for any one for ₹100, or pay ₹300 for a combo ticket. I recommend the combo. You'll pay ₹100 for all your cameras together. Be sure to have a few hours at your disposal, to wander around at leisure. The animatronic dinosaurs are fun. The shell collections are intriguing once you really start looking. The aquarium is a letdown, but the pearl museum makes up for it. The mineral museum is interesting, but could be better, with better lighting (there's a green tint to the light which skews the mineral colours) and good use of spotlights. Overall, a good location for the family, however the only letdown is that the place needs a regular dusting, and some maintenance. Failure of that, will lead to a bad future experience, the beginnings of which can be seen already - that's why the one star reduction. I hope that they pick up their feet and keep the exhibits tidy, organised, dust free, and in good working order.

Good place to take kids along... Exclusive collections of shells of different types size wise, conch oyster are showcased. Small fish or mariane aquarium is there. Pearl museum is full of different types of pearls with shapes and names kept for public view. An amusement park with some of the greatest Dinosaurs is kept. It is artificial gives us a real feel factor.

Nice place to visit with friends and family You can completely visit the entire place in 2 hours itself. But ticket price was 300rs for all the 5 then for mobile camera photos we have to pay 100rs. I felt ticket price was little high. Because museum is small only. But the collection was good. We have experience it atleast once.

It's a fantastic museum for ocean lovers, featuring exhibits on the history and various types of snails, fishes, and attractions for kids. However, apart from that, there isn't much else. The dinosaur museum is disappointing, with the dinosaurs only moving randomly, which might appeal to children but not much else. Additionally, there's a horror house, which requires an extra charge, but it can be enjoyable. However, the ticket prices are unreasonable for what the museum offers. **Features:** 1. Ample parking space available. 2. Restrooms are kept neat and clean. 3. A small canteen is available. 4. Arcade games are available for both kids and adults, although there's an extra charge for gaming.

Went to Mineral Museum, it's one of the parts of India Shell Museum. Parking 🅿️ space: Available ✔️ 🆓 Rest room: Available ✔️(clean) A snacks shop: Available ✔️ (not tried anything) Shops selling original pearls: Available ✔️ Time spent: 1-2 hours depending on one's interest and visits. I have not explored the whole museum. I found the ticket price a bit high since it's not that big. Not up to the mark but the experience was okay. Since the price of the ticket should be reasonable. Even though, it's a good place to go with kids.

Must visit place at least once to appreciate the efforts they put instead of keep praising the abroad museum. This museum has 4 parts inside with the entry fee of ₹300/- together. Mineral Museum - where you can see great Singapore inspired themes like Merlion, Gardens by the bay statues made out of shell also with other sea creatures statues with excellent lighting - first time goers will be surprised for sure. Mineral displays are not that great as some of the minerals are clearly looks like painted ones with brush marks 😩 at least to my eyes! Seashell Museum - lots of shells are displayed from micro to mega sizes. One drawback is that most of the shells displayed are from south East Asian countries and few from other regions. Mamalla Fish Aquarium - Very average aquarium not that great to inspire or attract visitors. At least I liked eels. Pearl Museum - great collections of pearls of various sizes, colours and shapes with excellent outdoor entrance but the entry door can be better. Dinosaur 🦕 Museum - The main point of attraction on this spot. Lots of efforts behind this museum which definitely visitors should appreciate and help to maintain. Great collection of artificial dinosaurs with tail, hand and head moments along with the voices are really cool to experience. 💯 % Kids love guaranteed. The worst part which I personally don’t like is the behaviour of the visitors spoiling the statues by holding the moving parts and damaging the displays are really paining. As the same people’s will obey the rules in abroad but failed to follow in our own nation.

Definitely a must visit place. Descendant of the Ganges also known as Arjunas penance is pretty huge that it is difficult to cover all of it in a frame unless you take it from the other side of the road. It has very intricate carvings , it is surprising to see how it would have been possible during earlier times. Photographers are available there to take pictures,which is helpful considering the size of the boulder.

This place could have been better if the local administration had placed the facilities properly. First of all, the place is too hot and humid, a shaded pathway leading to it is really needed. If you have that, you can have people coming here on foot, from that narrow lane where people park their cars leading to traffic congestion. Second, people were going on the rocks, standing on them, just for some good pictures. Maybe that can be stopped, it's our ancient heritage.

Arjuna's penance and the Descent of Ganges is the name given to the largest stone carving in Mahabalipuram during the pallava reign. The gigantic rock is carved to show 2 instances. One from Mahabharata a well known Hindu epic . In this Arjuna one of the five Pandavas is shown to perform penance to please the Hindu god Shiva in order to obtain his astra.. And the other shows the Descent of Ganges river to earth from the heavens following the penance of kind Bhagirath. Whole carving is mesmerizing with intricate details carved on the stone . It contains 2 Monolith boulders with life size figures carved on them . Along with humans the carving shows intricately carved pictures of animals also.

Shore Temple and the ancient monuments of mahabalipuram, has been famous go-to place, for the short stay visitors to Chennai. This place has various stories to tell, monuments were built near around 7th century AD by Pallavas and are currently preserved by ASI. There is a combined ticket to visit the monument (Rs. 40). Parking has been an issue on weekends. The mahabalipuram beach is also a fabulous spot to spend some quality time.

Amazing stone structure from the ancient times. It is very close to Arjun’s penance, Krishna mandapam and Krishna’s ball of butter. It gets very hot during the day. So it is recommended to visit either early morning or evening. The entry ticket is same for all monuments- shore temple, descent of the Ganges, Krishna ball of butter and five rathas. Wear comfortable and cotton clothes as it gets very hot. The monuments are very well preserved.

This is one of the UNESCO preserved heritage site available as a visual treat for tourists. The master piece was created during Pallava dynasty between 600 to 700 AD. Its crowded on weekends. To see the sculptures and understand them peacefully it is better to go on week days. There are well informed guides hanging around. Must negotiate & get a good deal to explore more details

The Krishna Mandapam is another rock-cut monument in Mamallapuram. It features a beautiful bas-relief depicting Lord Krishna lifting the Govardhan Hill to protect the villagers from the wrath of Indra, the god of rain. The carving and the storytelling through the sculpture make it a significant cultural and historical site.

The entry is from outside and so free. This is good visit. If you give sometime to understand the rock cut art you will understand the story. Lord Krishna is holding goverdhan parvat (mountain) and villagers are underneath it feeling safe with lord Krishna.

Visited on 09th Dec 2019 Krishna Mandapam is one of the largest the rock-cut caves in Mahabalipuram, which is dedicated to Lord Krishna. (mid 7th century). Being one of the oldest caves, the carvings look finished. The different carvings depict the many events from Indian mythology & the lifestyle of that century. Originally this was an open-air bas-relief (dedicated to Lord Krishna - mid 7th Century), and later in the 16th century, a mandapa was extended in front by the Vijayanagar Empire Kings. Lord Krishna lifting the mythical Govardhan Hill on the finger of his left hand is the major theme of the bas-relief, though it also includes Krishna with gopis in romantic mood. There are many other animals & faces including a man milking a cow (life-size), a bull, lion, etc. Referred to as one of the ancient Vishwakarma Sthapathis(sculptors), this monument is worth visiting. Ganesha Ratha is one of the best-preserved architectural landmarks of the Pallava dynasty, and it is one of the finest monolithic temples at Mamallapuram or Mahabalipuram. The Ganesha Ratha is a Dvi-Tala (two-story) structure built over a rectangular plan. Though two-storeyed and of better artistry, it resembles the Bhima Ratha in roof form.

⚜️Ganesha ratha is hewn out of a singular granite boulder and is the most complete ratha ⚜️The ratha is dvi-tala (two story) structure built over a rectangular plan ( Saalakara /Wagon Shaped) . Its main entrance is through a mukha-mandapa which is built over a roughly carved adhisthana (base) reachable by a flight of two rock-cut steps. The entrance has two pillars and two pilasters, all with lion bases. Above their bulbous capital is supported corbels with curved profiles. At the terminals are provided niches framed within pilasters. These niches carry dvarapala images. The dvarapala on the viewer’s left is shown with heavy jata-bhara (headdress) with his one hand over a gada (club) ⚜️The ridge of the roof is adorned with multiple stupis, nine in number. A trishula (trident) emblem is present at the terminals of the ridge. This motif is very significant as it has a face at the base supporting the three prongs of the trishula. This motif is also present above the nasikas (kudu arches) on the sides of the shikhara. It has a cylindrical shrine in the middle. There is a cylindrical decoration called vrtta-sphutitam used in the decoration of the temple vimana. ⚜️There is a foundation inscription, present on the lateral wall of the mukha-mandapa. The inscription is the same as the one found in the Dharmaraja Mandapa. It gives the name of the temple as Atyantakama-pallaveshvara-griham built during Pallava Emperor Raja Simha (Narasimha Varman ||)

They are spread out a little but all of them are not hard to reach in foot - though it can get very hot here and an early morning visit is recommended. Visited on 09th Dec 2019 Due to its unfinished nature, i have reduced a star. Pancha Pandava Mandapam is in between the Krishna Mandapa & Arjuna's Penance - one of the largest but unfinished cave temples in Mahabalipuram. It was built between the 7th and 8th centuries, under king Narasimha Varman I of the Pallava dynasty. Pancha Pandava Mandapam is dedicated to Pandavas, the mythological characters from Mahabharata; however, the location have no connection with Mahabharata. Though unfinished, this cave temple is unique since its sanctum was designed to have a passage all around the sanctum for Circumambulation (Pradakshina). This cave is a rectangular structure supported by pillars. The entrance is guarded by seated lions and upon walking further, one can see lion bases on the columns of the verandah too. There are 4 hollow chambers with a sanctum which is empty. Though I have not seen it, it is said that a few columns have hidden lions and elephants; if you are visiting, kindly try to spot them. There is greenery in the front of the mandapa.

The Panchapandava Mandapa, also known as the Panchapandava Cave Temple, is the largest cave in Mahabalipuram which is situated adjacent of Descent of the Ganges and Arjuna's Penance. It's a unfinished cave. Therefore no architecture is inside. This is part of group of Monuments and UNESCO world heritage site. Carry sunglasses, caps/umbrella and water bottles while visiting Mahabalipuram and avoid during summer season.

The Panchapandava Mandapa, also known as the Panchapandava Cave Temple, is the largest cave in Mahabalipuram. The front part of the cave consists of columns resting on seated lions. Good rock carving. It is part of the Group of Monuments in Mahabalipuram (Mamallapuram) and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It continues on to Arjuna's Penance. Since it is open air, it can become very hot for sightseeing as temperatures are usually high in Mahabalipuram.

Its an unfinished rock cave with some chalukyan style of architecture.

Marvelous cultural hertiage and art work done in single stone by pallava kings during pallava dynasty. It carries rich history and this place flourished under pallava rule. Kanchipuram was considered as capital place for pallava kingdom. Mammallapuram is must to visit place in chennai to enjoy the nature, beach and wonderful and amazing sea shore temple and single stone carved caves, Krishna butter ball and other places. Under pallava rule, all art and stone work has been done in Mammallapuram.

It's a wonderful architectural site which stands amidst of time and modernization as a proof of wealth and technical capability of our own rulers from native land. The monumental structures are not only sending a message across the globe about our wealth and capability but also tells the rest of the world that how advanced we were in our thinking, man management, logistics, administration.

Nice place. Those in search of silence and peace , this place is for you. Nice, green ground to sit with those old beautiful stone carvings. Sea breze is something you will definitely love. Must take sunscreen to beat the heat

This Place is also known as MAHISHA MARDINI CAVE as direction arrow suggests. At the rock top you see the temple like structure. You see sculpture at the walls of this. Light house is in the same vicinity. In other rock cut you will see Lord Vishnu. Legions of rock cut are there in some you you'll see Arjuna worshiping.

MahishamardiniTemple is an example of rock cut architecture, dating from the late 7th century, of the Pallava dynasty in Mamallapuram. The king Narasimhavarman Mahamalla (630–668 AD) of the Pallava dynasty, after whom the town is also named, is the patron of the cave. The cave reflects a transitional style of architecture in its columns mounted on seated lions and frescoes carved on the walls inside the cave which evolved during the rule of kings Mahendra Varman I and Narasimhavarman I (known as Mamalla). Historical research has also confirmed that Mahabalipuram town came to be established only after it was named after Mamalla and the caves and rathas are all attributed to his reign during the year 650 AD. A structural temple of the 8th century called the Olakkanneswara temple, is situated above this cave at a vantage location which provides scenic views of Mamallapuram. The back wall of the central chamber features a carving of a Somaskanda panel; this panel is carved with images of Shiva and his consort Parvathi in their regal dress, each wearing a crown known as kirita-mukuta and other ornamentation, with their son Skanda (Murugan)  seated between them. This panel also shows Nandi (bull), Shiva's mount (Vahana). The north wall in the cave contains a relief depicting the battle scene of the two adversaries, goddess Durga and the demon buffalo-headed Mahishasura. This panel symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. In the war scene, Durga appears with eight hands riding a fierce-looking lion. She is holdingkhadga(sword), dhanush (bow), bana (arrows), ghanta(bell) in her four right hands; her four left hands display pasa, sankha, and dagger. An attendant holds a chatra (parasol) over Durga's head. She is in the battlefield with her army of female warriors and ganas (dwarfs). She is shown attacking, with arrows, the demon Mahisha, causing him to retreat with his followers. Mahishasura is armed with a gada (club). On the southern face of the cave, there is a panel of Vishnu in an a reclining posture, lying on the bed of the serpent Adisesha. He is shown with two hands holding the coil of the five-headed serpent which forms a cover over Vishnu's head.Madhu and Kaitabha, the two demons, are carved near Vishnu's feet in an attacking mode, armed with a gada (mace). The demons are in a position of retreat, as Adisesha hisses at them with flames emerging from its hoods. Vishnu, unconcerned, is patting Adisesha to pacify him. Also shown in the panel are the two ganas (dwarfs). Dwarfs are Vishnu's Ayudhapurushas(as his personified weapons); the male gana is known as shankha or Panchajanya, and the female gana is Vishnu's gada Kaumodaki. Also seen in the panel, at its lower end, are three figures; his chakra(discus) is Sudarshana in ayudha-purusha form, Nandaka on the right is his khadga(sword), and the female figure is Bhudevi, also as ayudha-purusha.

Nice one part of mahabalipuram.

The primary beach at Mahabalipuram and near the famous shore temple, this beach is a short, sandy walk from the parking which is cramped at best. The path is lined with vendors selling the usual touristy stuff including shells, idols and stone carved diyas and ither memorabilia. The beach itself, though beautiful is not very clean and needs maintenance.

The beach is very dirty bcoz of all the shops around. But that one big rock is a very good spot for taking pictures. The sunrise and sunset views are superb.

Mahabalipuram Beach is one of good beaches for spending weekends and enjoy with your friends and family. It is such an amazing beach. Shore Temple is located near the beach, it is a world heritage site. Very beautiful and old temple. It is a very long beach. Cleanliness is good. Some places of the beach rocks are available, so be careful while playing in the water. Here the sunrise is amazing. So many shops are available near to this beach. Sea-food is nice here.

Walking distance from anywhere in the town. Easily accessible. But its not been maintained well. Its very dirty. Yet very serene & peaceful.

Placed near by historical temple, a little crowded place but can be managible, rock pile on the side is awesome place to sit for photos, Beach is little untidy sometimes. Overall you may find it good when it is little crowded.

The beach is nice, I visited it during new year's eve and the pilgrimage season was on, resulting in a huge crowd all around. The market nearby is pretty good for the souvenirs.

Best beach in the southern part of India. If you are looking for a clean, neat and tidy beach without much crowd, then definitely it's a must visit. Don't worry about the stay, - there are plenty of options to choose from budget friendly stays to five start resorts like four points by Sheraton, radison blu, welcome hotel and more. The beach is close to all touristy places in the city - shore temple, Krishna butter ball, Five Rathas. Place is also famous for stone carving. Beach side has many vendors selling shell crafts. Be careful of them. You can bargain and get products at less price. Sometimes they tend to quote high but definitely you can look for many options here. There are good restaurants and street food too to explore around the beach area. Enjoy your beach time for a nice rejuvenation.

Mahabalipuram beach is one if the nicest beach in Tamilnadu. It is situated by the Bay of Bengal. It is also known as Mahabalipuram Beach. It is a wonderful place surrounded by the shimmering sea and hills. The beach is a long beach. The main attraction near the beach is the sea shore temple. This temple is made by rock-cut sculptures which are very acutely prepared. This beach is a perfect place to relax. You can see the sunset from the beach. You can take a cab from Chennai to reach there.

The beach looks small because of all the shops surrounded by the beach but the beach is awesome for spending time with family and friends and rock spots in the beach are best for clicking pictures. The view from the rocks gives a cool and pleasant Breeze. There are many shops for shopping like hand bags, earrings and many more for low cost girls will love it.

Better but not ok because cleanliness is bad . The temple is too good and the buggy service is also good only on selective timings.please take the tickets through scan because you will get 5rs less per head. 35 rs in scanning 40 rs in counter per head.

The beach is good With a lot of trash. No proper management and maintenance. And visitors are even worst they litter wherever they are.😡. Good handcart idol and ect. Beach side you'll get all sea food items and kidz games

The place is an symbol of history and culture. This place consist of a temple having many cow statues surrounded it, and the visiting hours to this place according to me is evening time, as there is a beach attached to it you can enjoy on beach side which is a bit dirty for a while but okay can enjoy with the see side. I want to give a tip is to visit the temple take pics enjoy then after that visit the sea side and beach

The best beach to spend time on and there are many restaurants around which are very costly for the quantity they provide, if you go 800meters you can find the city restaurant selling for valuable price.

The early morning sunrise is a wonderful view on this beach. The beach area is not cleaned properly. It is a good place to spend time with friends and family.

The beach is ok adjacent to the strip of hotels & the fishing boats make a colourful photograph but the litter is appalling & the sight of dead & rotting turtles is very distressing.

Beautiful beaches.. but waves are too rough to be careful .. try to prevent bath or other water activities on the beach .. if you don't know how to swim please avoid direct contact with the sea....

The parking charges for car,bike is Rs.40 and 20 respectively. The entry ticket is Rs.25. This place is suitable if you want to see less crowded beach and some park where you can relax. Ideally suitable to go with family, sit and relax. Evening time is good there is one or two eatery shops but not sure of taste. The monuments in this place is very less. Give it a try if you want to come Mahabalipuram.

Very nice place for a family time with kids☺️☺️ Not much rush. Kids can play in beach for a longer time. It's has a minimal entry fee of Rs 25!!!

Historical place built by the Pallava Dynasty. There will be some crowd on the Weekends, particularly in evening hours. I would recommend you to watch some videos on YouTube before visiting here - it will help you to feel the importance of this place.

Clean and less crowded beach to play joyfully and safely. Nice place to take rest under the trees. Visited two times and had good experience.

As I entered the site, I was awestruck by the grandeur and intricacy of the carvings. The cave temple, with its sculpted pillars and chambers, exudes a sense of mystique and reverence. The surrounding natural beauty adds to the serene atmosphere. It's a captivating glimpse into the artistic and spiritual legacy of the past.

One of beautiful place on the way to Mahabalipuram. A great place for photographer Place is well maintained and there is an entry ticket and paid parking available.

Best place to visit.. 25Rs per head.. Car parking available.. Beach nearby only.. must visit.. But it closes by 5.30 pm.. and Never took rides and games there.. Bathroom facility available..👍

Nice place to visit Lot of stones sculptures and place for hangout. There will be crowd in weekend and act as lovers park in weekdays😜 Entry fee is 25 for Indians and 300 for Foreigners. Temple and beach is there. It is 5 km from Mahabalipuram towards Chennai. While going from Chennai you can visit here for a while.

Beautiful cave, located near the beach, tsunami stone and rocks carved shiva temple. A lot of stalls are here and you can get the best lemon juice here with is available near the beach. For entry you have to buy tickets. For locals it's 20 rupees per person.

Visit on a weekday if you want to avoid crowds. Nothing much to see here. It's become a spot for couples to hangout inside the cave but the cave itself is beautiful.

Foreigners pay 600 INR for entry. Same ticket allows access to multiple sites. Overall nice experience. An official guide will cost you 2000-2500 INR, but will add a lot of detail to the sites and give an insight into Indian religions. Colorful area with lots of things to see. ATMs in the area might be problematic. I myself could not withdraw cash from the ATMs. Had to go to money changer, who charged a hefty changing fee.
