Ohrid Lake is one of Macedonia's most famous places to visit. The scenery is very charming and attracts many tourists to come here. The lake is very clear and calm. A lot of restaurants close to the lake. It's really a good choice to enjoy the surrounding or take a lake tour with boats.

Honestly, went there this year late august/early september because serbia/macedonia border had no restrictions pass, otherwise id probably went to croatia or somewhere seaside. How glad i am that didnt happen. For 10 days i tried to find any reason why i should enjoy sea more that ohrid lake, and, honestly, i couldnt find a single one. It has everything. First of all, lake is huge. Its around 400 km sq, so you have same feeling like when visiting a big bay, you can see the shore far away in the distance, and you deffinitely have that open water sensation. Water is the clearest i have ever seen, anywhere, river, lake or sea, and i have seen my fair share of them all. It cant be described with words, and pictures dont do it justice either. All i can say is, youll be surprised how clean it is, no matter what you expect. There are lots of beaches. There is plenty of room as well since there are beaches throughout whole shoreline. Ill admit, it helps we visited near the end of a season, but i cant see beaches here being too crowded anytime, even july. That being said, there are a couple of small city beaches that we probably got to enjoy much more than we would had we come in peak of the season. Regardless, whether you like sand or rocky beaches, towel or beach chair, youll have your pick. Nature is also amazing, there is a national park we sadly didnt have time to explore enough, but for me, small forest near old town was enough to take my breath away. Speaking of old town, i usually find these dissapointing almost anywhere i go. Not this time. It really is a place where people live. Apart from one district where pretty much all shops are located, the rest is just beautiful, authentic houses. Some of them you can rent (whole or a room), but they all make you feel like this old town is a real place, not something put together for mass tourism, designed to get money from you. Also, im not religious, so i dont spend much time of my sightseeing on churches, but there are a few that are real gems. Especially st jovan kaneo. My 2nd favorite moment was swimming alone at 9am in cristal clear water, raising my head and seeing that church on the edge of the clif. Breathtaking. Favorite was spring of crni drim river, but thats all ill say, this needs to be experienced first person without spoilers. All in all if your idea of vacation is active one, that includes activities like swimming, hiking, sightseeing, and straightup enjoying on the beach, then all i can say is, you have to visit ohrid. Trust me, you wont regret it.

I fell in love with this lake, it’s marvelous. The water is so clean and clear. You can take a boat ride for a cheap amount of money.

Lake Ohrid is a lovely serene place to recharge and relax away from busy city life. While the beaches are stone there were plenty of people enjoying the water. The water is clear and clean. Nice running trail around the lake with hikes. The old town is quaint and fun to explore

Two wonderful days spent in Ohrid, Macedonia! It's really a wonderful town that makes you forget all your problems even for a little while. I have been to Skopje and here, I have to say that I like Macedonia and it is beautiful to see. I welcome those who have not been to the Ohrid lake to visit it. Greetings!

Such a beautiful lake. It's enormous and surround by mountains everywhere. The water is very clear end has such a nice color.

Lake Ohrid is a pleasant lake that aside from being big and blue is surrounded by scenic mountains, something that always is a plus in my book. When I was there, during a heat wave in July, the water was pleasant to swim in. Aspiring swimmers might find it useful to know that algae and mud are abundant along the shores. This does not prevent bathing/swimming in any way, shape or form - but it is good to remove expectations of fine-grained sandy ocean beaches before arriving at Ohrid. The principal town of Ohrid, has a feel that is not dissimilar to that of resort towns on Spanish islands. Sprawling restaurants and boat ride companies along the sea-front and busy shopping streets further inland. That is probably a good thing for most, for people seem to love those places. Walking westwards from the centre one finds two of the major Macedonian postcards; the Ohrid boardwalk and the Church of St John the Theologian. Both of these are worth seeing. The fortress on the top is, if possible, even less impressive on the inside than on the outside and can in my view be skipped without fear of remorse. I stayed on the eastern shore, some 10 km south of Ohrid town, and would do so again, as I have a strong unlove for tourist towns, despite or perhaps because I'm conscious of being a tourist myself. The eastern shore was also convenient for several mountain walks starting from the lakeshore - or from the mountain pass between Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa.

Beautiful lake shared by North Macedonia and Albania. One of the best towns to take it all in is, Ohrid. Look out across the azure blue water to the rising snow-capped mountains. Divine.

An amazing place, so beautiful nature, water is clear and you can swim there. Be careful because it is deep more than 200m. They have very good restaurants around the lake(Macedonian side). Take e boat for 10€ and spend couple of hours in the leak. It is great to go with family or friends

Don't order the lemonade in the restaurant, they brought it to me full of flies (pic included), which wasn't the best start to a meal I've had... the food was good, but I couldn't get away from the thought of the lack of hygiene, I was slightly confused as to if they didn't notice or didn't care, either is pretty awful... however our waiter was a lovely lovely man, and the place is obviously gorgeous.

Such a beautiful place which is really worth visiting. Around the Monastery, you can see the springs, beautiful clear water of the lake as well as the beach and mountains. So picturesque

The number one place to visit in Ohrid. The beauty and majesty of this special place is beyond words to describe. You must visit the Monastery of St. Naum to experience it. The drive with a car or taking a boat over, both options are scenic and gorgeous. Few details: Breathtaking view on the lake, parking 50 denars, toilet 20den, lot of nice gift shops and jewelry, good restaurants (I recommend Ostrovo), boat toar 🛶 on the springs, green park, beach.

As you walk towards the monastery, you will come across a beautiful water spring which feeds Lake Ohrid. Christal clear water with trouts swimming against the current. Monastery is places an awesome place where feeling is like mountain breaches the lake. Wild nature and peace. Definitely strongly recommended!

Beautiful monastery 😍 but beach is very dirty and there is no place to put your towels, there is only deckchair that you must pay 5-10€ I recommend taking a boat ride around the springs for 5€, it’s worth it

Great magical place! You can meet even peacocks in the area. This is the first monastery I’ve visited where I saw peacocks Statue of St Naum is new from the real “alive” tree with roots inside. You should visit all churches in area. It’s amazing to walk around through rivers, forest with dragonflies and singing of birds.

Beautiful old monastery dating back to the 10th century. It’s perfect for a whole summer day with the family and friends. Other than the monastery itself, walking the surrounding and gardens is really beautiful, offering great views of Ohrid lake. Additionally you have a nice beach so don’t forget to bring your bathing suit and picnic basket for a perfect day. A beautiful monastery on the shore of lake Ohrid, in a calm area, not so far away from the city of Ohrid. The monastery was built around 893-900, when it was still part of the First Bulgarian Empire. It houses the rains of Saint Naum Ohridski, from where it derives the monastery's name. You can see some peacocks walking casually around, being used to human presence, which are great for pictures.

A beautiful area with a lot to see and do. I highly recommend coming but making this an entire day excursion. Dress nicely for the monastery but bring a change of clothes and enjoy the beach and restaurants in that same area.

Yeah, it’s a nice monastery but if you saw the one in Ohrid which in my opinion is in a much better setting with much less tourists you can skip this one. You can feel that everything there was made to make money of people gift shops, expensive restaurants, paid parking, boat trips, etc. A lot of people are all around the place.

I would give the beautiful springs that lead into the lake 5 stars. So clear water. The monastery church has lovely frescos but the outside is like any other medieval church of the times and not that much around it to make the monastery stand out aesthetically. The frescos inside are brilliant though but no Pictures allowed

Beautiful church along the coast. Does not cost a thing to walk around and take pictures. If you hike the one trail you can also take in views of the coastline.

Quite possibly the most beautiful setting for any church in the World. There is a reason this church has been on the cover of National Geographic twice. It is also a great place for sunset when it really comes alive. I did not go inside but only peaked and am unsure if the 100 dinar entry is worthwhile. If you want to donate to the church, then definitely pay the entry fee. Highly recommended and an absolute must visit. A+

A beautiful church located on a cliff with a wonderful view of Ohrid. We recommend that you walk from Samuel's fortress to the church through the pine forest and enjoy the natural beauty of Ohrid. From the church, you descend gently towards the old town, where you can sit at any restaurant located right next to the water.

One of the absolute highlights here in Ohrid. Definitely one of the best panoramas of lake Ohrid. The church itself from the inside is not that special, however the way there as well as the surroundings of the church is really beautiful and peaceful. You can easily walk here from the city centre. We were here in the evening hours (6pm) and it was not very busy.

What a nice place, the river side trail is very beautiful and romantic, especially during sunset. I was lucky enough to see a rare wedding in here too

Saint Kaneo is a historical landmark. An Orthodox church located on a cliff overlooking Lake Ohrid. Scenic views of the lake, mountains, boats, beaches and the Old Town. Small forest area to hike. Access to beaches and the wooden boardwalk dock. Fantastic for photographs. Usually crowded here, but well worth the trip, or several trips for a magnitude of photographs.

Breathtaking. So picturesque, peaceful and underrated. Highly recommend 1-2 days here or even on a stop on the way to Skopje if driving through 🇲🇰.

Nice place to visit with family. Old buildings on the water looks nice. Inside you can find a lot of equipment from the old times. Ticket cost 150 Macedonian denars for adults. You can buy ticket very fast if no people from cruise ship.

Cool and unusual place to visit! We went on a Monday and even if the place was supposed to be closed, there was a guy who allowed us to buy the tickets and explore the place. There's not much explanation about the place and history of it, which is a pity, but anyway it is worth going. Just be aware there could be several bees around the houses in the floating village. They seem harmless if you don't bother them, but not so pleasant to heat their buzzing while you're walking around.

Cool place on the water, best reachable by car, I walked from Ohrid which is doable but you got to walk on the road sometimes without side walk. Well constructed timber frame houses on poles and good narrator in the museum. Overall it was a splendid experience during a sunny day at the lake, in winter they close just before sunset and from the parking above you are able to witness the lost stunning spectacle when the sun slowly disappears behind the the Albanian mountains reflecting the light over the lake and coring the sky in all sorts of colors - just marvelous

It’s a cool place, very impressive! At the bottom of the lake scientists found the remains of an ancient settlement, which is over 3 thousand years old, and it was decided to recreate it in its original form. It is very interesting to walk around such a village, looking into each house and seeing how people lived 3 thousand years ago. The water in the lake is so beautiful, green color, the atmosphere is very cozy and calm. The entrance costs 150 Macedonian denars (June 2022), next to the museum there is a campsite and a beach where the water is much cleaner than in Ohrid town.

What an amazing place! Do a bit of prior learning and you’ll be glad you did. Worth the D150 entry. The museum holds a recreation of archeological finds in the area. This houses on the water part of the museum is based on houses from the bronze age. Think there’s been a fair bit of artistic licence but it’s truly incredible. The account from 4000 years ago is cool. A stop for every boat but interesting nonetheless, can be hard work to bypass the instagrammers 🤦🏻‍♀️

Cool place. You do not learn much as you would expect from a museum BUT it is totally worth it. The nature is incredible and you should also climb up the hill to the small Roman fortress to see the view from up there! I suggest you go there early in the morning so that you avoid crowds and experience the serenity of nature. Plus the road to the museum from Ohrid is really nice and by the lake!

It's interesting to visit but there is not much to do. Yes, there is a little exhibition with some information, then the village itself and then there are even ruins of the Roman fortress but it's all a bit empty and almost boring. The lake saves it all however. It's so beautiful that getting some more points where to see it is worth it.

The Bay of Bones is a bay in Ohrid Lake and an archeological site of prehistoric pile-dwelling on the peninsula and the Gradiste auto camp, near the city of Ohrid. I recommend it!

Our Bay of Bones tour started off as a boat ride to get to the site. You could purchase drinks and snacks on the boat. The ride was smooth on the day we visited and we enjoyed the site seeing. When we got to the Bay of Bones we walked up a few stairs and entered the visitor’s center. There small display of the archeological pilings and other artifacts that lead to the building of the replica village. It was interesting but wouldn’t want to visit on a crowded day. Kids would enjoy these recreation of the buildings on stilts and the houses were nicely furnish with what the village may have looked like. A great on a nice day. Watch your step as you have stairs and uneven surfaces.

A reproduction of the Neolithic settlement that was once here and written about by non other than Herodotus himself. Well worth a visit to get an idea how people lived on the lake. They even kept horses and fed them in fish! By the way, these similar villages still exist in Thailand. Indonesia etc. they have a small museum that has some excellent Neolithic pottery etc

No ticket control, so basically you can enter for free, the wooden floor is in a very bad state, with nails all around, no guide nor information screens. All of the housing units are nearly identical and poorly equipped. The fortress is also pretty empty.

A pier built in the Pestani region on Lake Ohrid, showing the Macedonian village culture. It is a village installation made of adobe and straw on a pier. The reason why the village is called a bone museum or bone bay is because there are animal bones and animal hides in some houses. Approximately 150 mkd per person is charged at the entrance. The lake view is incredible. About 20 minutes from Ohrid city.

Macedonia's Bay of Bones is a cultural landmark of reconstructed pile dwelling settlements dating back to the Bronze and Iron Age, 1200 – 700 BC. This museum on the water is located on Lake Ohrid, one of the oldest and deepest lakes in Europe.

If you like history and are fascinated easily by stuff like that - a good place to spend some time. But if you do not care that much, I think just a look from the parking lot is just ok. A little weird that they charge you more if you are a tourist than if you are a local. ➕ - Big parking lot - Not much people when we were visiting - Beautiful area - Fascinating concept - Cheap ticket ➖ - Very uncomfortable to walk on the bay because of loose planks - The people working there was not very smiley or friendly (not mean by any means, just very plain) - More expensive ticket for tourists (not that it was expensive just more expensive) - Nasty toilet

There’s plenty to see if you are interested in stuff from XII to VII century BC. There’s gazebos around the museum entry if you want to enjoy the view. Entry fee is 150 denars for a foreign visitor, 120 denars for home visitor, 60 denars for children.

A beautiful place and the church has a very good story, if you are able, I recommend that you take a local guide to tell you the history of the church.. I had the opportunity to listen to the guide Alexander from the agency Apka, who in a wonderful way described in detail the entire story of both the church and and places of Ohrid.

One of the most important and ancient monuments in Macedonia. Demolished and rebuilt several times, converted into a mosque and reconverted into a church, today it is difficult to understand its history and evolution. I recommend Wikipedia for passionate; instead, for those like me who simply look at beauty, mystique, there are plenty here.

Spectacular example of Roman architecture and painting, one of the best spots to see in the town regardless of religion. The edifice dates back from the 11th century when Ohrid was rhe capital of the Bulgarian Empire and the seat of an autonomous Orthodox church. After the Ottoman conquests, the church was tuned into a mosque and frescoes were covered up or destroyed. It has an entrance fee of 100 denars

Beautiful church, very well preserved with interesting architecture. One of the places to visit while in Ohrid. The church was built during the First Bulgarian Empire, after the official conversion to Christianity. Some sources date the building of the church during the rule of Knyaz Boris I (852 – 889). The interior of the church has been preserved with frescoes from the 11th, 12th and 13th century.

Impressive original ancient frescoes inside make it worth the 3 euros entry. Apart from that it's nice but nothing particularly special.

Galicica National Park, known for its rich and rare nature and unique beauty, in 1958 was declared a national park in order to preserve the flora and fauna and the natural appearance of Mount Galicica. About 2/3 of the Park is included in the boundaries of the World Natural and Cultural Heritage of the Ohrid region, inscribed on the list of UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Galicica National Park is located in the southwestern part of Macedonia, on the Galicica mountain massif, including parts of its branches East and Petrino, as well as the island of Golem Grad in Lake Prespa. Mount Galicica is part of the Sharo-Pind mountain system. The large open areas towards Lakes Ohrid and Prespa, which limit it from the east and west, contribute to its clear visual separation as a separate unit. The altitude of the mountain massif Galicica in Macedonia ranges from 695 meters above sea level. (the level of Lake Ohrid), ie 850 meters above sea level. (the level of Lake Prespa), up to 2265 m. on the border pillar F10. The park is a hotbed of biodiversity in the region, but also beyond, globally. On an area of ​​approximately 24,000 hectares, there are more than 37 habitat types, 40 plant communities, about 1600 taxa of vascular plants, over 143 species of lichenoid fungi, more than 480 species of fungi and over 3279 taxa of fauna. There are 4 taxa of invertebrates and 13 of vertebrates that are considered globally endangered in the park. Hundreds of rare and protected species in the park are represented by significant populations. Some of them are found only within the park: 29 taxa of algae, 12 species of vascular plants, 68 taxa of invertebrates and 4 taxa of vertebrates. In addition, the park is inhabited by a large number of taxa found only in Macedonia or the Balkans: 46 taxa of higher plants, 89 taxa of invertebrates and 14 taxa of vertebrates. The cultural-historical region contains several layered values. They consist primarily of the geographical-environmental properties of Lake Ohrid and the mountain ranges that represent the border of the protected region. Using the lake as a basic source of life, many generations have left behind syntheses of the natural, rural and urban. From the many cultural and historical monuments on the territory of the Park, the most important are: the monastery "St. Nahum ", the church" St. Bogorodica Zahumska ”, the archeological sites on the island of Golem Grad and many others. As a complex, the park, together with Lakes Ohrid and Prespa, is a relatively limited area with very rich biodiversity, high degree of heterogeneity and endemism and in that sense is considered a very valuable site in Europe.

Beautiful view and good patjs for people who like to hike. I would recommend a whole day and just enjoy the nature. You have many paths which are from easy to hard. Also you pay an entry which belongs to maintain the park. I recommend also taking food and drinks by yourself.

The nature is beautiful and the views of the city and the lake are breathtaking. You can go hiking, mounting biking or with a car. There are many different places to explore and I totally recommend it.

Antique Theater is located at the foot of the eastern slope of the higher Ohrid hill, under Samuel's Fortress, near one of the main entrances to the fortified city-the Upper Gate, from where one captures the unforgettable view of the lake and the mountains that surround it. It was built more than two millennia, sometime at the end of 3rd or the beginning of 2nd century during the late Hellenism and was intended for plays, musical and poetry performances for the lovers of theater art. It was built the according to the look of the famous Greek stone buildings of this kind, with rich architectural decoration, especially on the theater building which was decorated with a frieze of bas-relief tablets with carved scenes from the life of the gods. Two such marble slabs, which are today kept in the Ohrid Museum, present the god Dionysus in the company of the Muses. Some of the contemporary urban notables had prepaid their own seats in the theater and so today we learn about Crispus and Topos as big fans of the theater art because their names still stand carved in stone blocks of the seats. Immediately after the Roman conquest of this region in 148 BC, the theater, probably in a remarkably short time, was adapted to the needs of the Roman way of life. The building was transformed into a theater space with arena for gladiatorial fights and fights with wild beasts for which few of the lower rows of seats were demolished and in their place were built several cages for animals, and the orchestra and honorary seats were surrounded by a protective wall. Later in the upper, outer zone was built epiteatron and the capacity of the theater rose to 5.000 spectators. It is thought that with the euphoria that occurred at the beginning of the 4th century AD, when St. Erasmus from Antioch, the first Christian missionary arrived in Ohrid, converted to Christianity 25,000 people, all pagan buildings in the city were destroyed. Most probably in these demolitions suffered and the theater, while the material of its seats and other objects later was used for building early Christian basilicas and many other sacred and profane objects. The first assumptions that in ancient Lychnidos (today Ohrid) existed theater, gave Russian art historian Nikodim P. Kondakov at the beginning of 20th century, and already in 1935, when the first archaeological excavations have been performed, those assumptions were confirmed and the theater was partly uncovered. Later, during the excavations carried out in the period 1959-1960, was determined the exact location and size of the theater. The systematic excavations, started in 1977 and after a lapse of six years continued in 1984, discovered the locations of the entrances and the theater building, the orchestra with the honorary seats and the arena and nine rows of seats were uncovered. During 1999, the project for its full uncovering and revitalization and since 2001, after twenty centuries, theatrical, musical performances and various other events are performed on the stage of the reconstructed open space of the ancient theater.

The theatre is very well maintained and perched up on a hill with breathtaking views overlooking Ohrid, the lake and the mountains. World famous stars have performed here, one of the most famous is Jose Carreras (a Spanish operatic tenor who is particularly known for his performances in the operas of Donizetti, Verdi and Puccini), who performed here in 2005 in front of 3.500 people, the maximum capacity. Be sure to include Samuel's Fortress and Church of Saints Clement and Panteleimon to your walking tour, as they are all 10 minutes from each other, and all have the most wonderful views of Ohrid and full of rich history.

The Ancient Macedonian Theatre of Ohrid is one of the largest amphitheaters in the area and is used today for different purposes (during busy season). It is oriented towards the beautiful Lake Ohrid like it is a scene in one of its plays. The theatre was built in 200BC and the rare Hellenistic type theatre in the area. It is open to the public for exploration when no shows are on stage.

Nicely preserved ancient theatre, now hemmed in by buildings, which was in a state of renovation at the time of our visit and full access was closed. The barriers didn't seem to stop some people entering it but we did not out of respect for the site.

A must place to visit if you are interested in history. A wonderful preserved theatre which they still use (how cool is that!) No cost to look & enter nice views from to the city. From here you can climb to Samuel's Fortress which is not much further but a steep climb (better views)

An ancient Roman theater in Ohrid I definitely worth the walk to view the neighborhood and enjoy the acoustics of the location along with the spectacular view of the lake and surrounding mountains.

We just walked straight in to this amazing structure. Like many places we have visited in the Lake Ohrid area, it was slightly scruffy but that doesn't detract from the connection you feel with this ancient place.

Very cool to just have this in the centre of town. The reconstructed areas aren’t the best but definitely give you a sense of how magnificent it once was. That it’s remained, surrounded by houses and not had the space or building materials repurposed through the millennia is impressive.

A beautiful theatre in the centre is the old town. Most of the structure is carefully persevered and you could imagine how gorgeous it was! It's free to visit and a must visit place.

they have very nicely preserved and repaired the amphitheater from times that we can't remember Emy much anymore 🙈 where various performances and festivals are still held today... it's definitely worth seeing the history of the city before heading straight to the center to the harbor

Be careful when a local guide approaches you and offers to guide you around the site. He will tell you a bunch of unrelated nonsense. In return, he asks for a tip that you determine, but if he is not satisfied with the height, becomes unpleasant. Spoils the impression of the site, which is significant. Oh yes, that local guide considers himself a philosopher.

I'm a bit mixed about reviewing this place. Interesting to look at but very little information in English at the site. The grand basilica is of recent construction and I have no idea what the new buildings are going to be. The rest of the site is an excavation in progress. Great view, but would have hoped for more info on site to help being the history 'alive'. As it is, it's all a bit sterile.

Entrance fee is 100 dinars, the place is an archeological site with very little to see and close to nothing as explanation. You end up looking at a bunch of rocks that have no meaning. The view of the lake is spectacular but the ensemble itself is poorly maintained

Gorgeous church with some impressive ruins and mosaics. In use right now and the chanting inside the church could be described as divine. Fairly easy to walk to, and a great historical area that's being rebuilt and renovated.

An important archaeological historical site, dating back to the eighth century BC, with artefacts discovered from the Hellenistic culture, as well as from the Roman and early Christian times. For detailed information you can get on Google because of the lack of professional guides, and even a quality organization is missing at all! This greatly reduces the tourist attractiveness of the site. But that's why you will need to pay a ticket, for which you will not receive any use of a public toilet, but you can get a rough response from the people who care about the site !!!

The archaeological site will give you a glimpse into the Roman and some more contemporary history of Ochrid. While if offers an interesting view to a couple of interesting sites - a church, tombs, a basilica, the access to it is not the best experience you can get. In the summer of 2017 the road that leads to the site is still under construction and everything is very dusty. Additionally, the Roman mosaics that are on display have been exhibited in a way that potentially would not preserve them for a long time. As you can see from the pictures they are already covered with dust and seem to be very exposed to various weather conditions which is the main reason I rate the sight with 3 stars.

The ancient city of Plaosnik is located on the UNESCO World Heritage List with its magnificent history dating back to Alexander the First. In the 9th century, the Orthodox Pantelejmon Church built during the period of the 1st Bulgarian Kingdom was converted into a mosque by Sinan Çelebi during the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century. In 2002, the State of Macedonia rebuilt the church in accordance with its original by demolishing the mosque in the church area.

It's It's a great place to see but it's still a working progress a ticker for tourist is 50MKD and it's free for local people. Nothing much to say.

An archaeological excavation is currently underway. That's why the surrounding area is a bit like a construction site. But it is a place worth visiting.

No visit to Ohrid would be complete without a visit here. Unfortunately a wedding was in progress so could not enter the church. However, would definitely be a great spot for a fairy tale wedding :-). It’s also neat to see the ruins nearby and feel the history of the area. Highly recommended! A+

Very beautiful place, especially since it’s by the water. During our visit there was some sort of service going on inside the church so I didn’t want to enter inside and disturb anyone.

There is entrance fee, maybe around 3 euros / person. Inside there is a fountain so we could drink water. There was also a cafe/bar but we did not go in. To enter the church I had to wear a skirt (it was offered at the door) so my legs are not showing.

The Church of Saints Clement and Panteleimon is very nice and worth a visit. There are the relics of St. Kliment Ohridski - one of the first medieval Bulgarian saints, scholar, writer, and apostle to the Slavs. He was one of the most prominent disciples of Cyril and Methodius and is often associated with the creation of the Glagolitic and Cyrillic scripts. Worth a visit. It also has a nice view of Lake Ohrid. What spoils the Christian atmosphere there is the so-called Sasho the philosopher. Some unknown hipster proclaimed philosopher who at first glance you don't know if he follows the rule that after 10 am it's brandy time or if his green salad is made with the devil's lettuce. He comes to you and asks what you are like, because God forbid if you are Bulgarian you should pay the ticket, but other foreigners if he is in the mood he can chase them to pay the ticket or if he is not, he doesn't chase them. It is not a question of three euros, it is a matter of principle and not only Bulgarians should be charged but every foreigner. The other thing is that if you agree to him talking to you, he may not warn you that you have to tip him in the end. He didn't warn us. The story he told us wasn't worth two cents. The first thing is we know history. :) The second thing is that he for three minutes told us how there are two hills and four basilicas. And for that he wanted money. We gave him 10 dinars because he didn't want to go out and leave us alone. In conclusion, the church is wonderful, but Sasho the "philosopher" should either get out of the way or learn a real history to tell.

Serene home of firmer monastery and medieval church. Certainly worth the D300 to enter. There was so much restoration going on while I was here. There is an active archaeological dig so many ruins were t accessible. The frescoes in the church, about 200 years old, were being restored but there were clever perspex panels showing the original flooring and fragments of original fresco. Outside there is an ancient baptismal font pool with wonderful mosaics. Plus it has top views of the lake and you’ll hear the birds twittering away

very nice and well-known monastery, which is under reconstruction (only some parts of the interior)...the architectural style is very aesthetically interesting and the monastery itself is definitely worth a visit...a really nice stop after a tour of the city of Ohrid

A peaceful place, but you have to spend 3€ to visit, and there is no inscription inside to help visitors to understand. Personally, if you plane to visit the monastery at the lake side, then you can skip this one

Worth visiting this place, it is near a beautiful forrest and the fortress, and it is free. If you want to enter the church you need to pay an admission fee. Beautiful architecture, fantastic view. I recommend sitting for a while behind the church and take a look at the lake.

It's an amazing place and living history. Every macedonian and foreign visitor should stop by this workshop. They make paper in the old ways using the Gutenberg press from the 15th century. According to the owner, there are only three of them like it in Europe. One is in Germany, where it originated from, of course, and the other two are in Slovenia and in Ohrid, Macedonia. The entrance is free,they make the paper in front of you also for free, so you lose nothing but your time and get so much in return. The owner is very friendly. It was an amazing experience to see papar being made in real time. Any lover of culture should visit. The prices for the paper are reasonable for a piece of history and worth it.

Lovely little museum where you can get a very good idea of how the paper is made and printed upon. Explanations in very good English too may I add. Small, friendly and welcoming place in the old part of Ohrid. Free entrance with various articles of paper related souvenirs for sale, oddly perhaps, priced in Euro.

Very small shop that has a paper press and old school printing press operation in the back. They are very nice people and show you how everything works in the traditional way. As it's small, you don't need very long to go through. Items in the shop are kinda expensive, but interesting

One of the experiences you should give a chance in Ohrid. Owner of the store is a person who does his job with love. He gave me a small lesson and let me try it myself. It looks easy but requires practice. I hope this tradition never goes away. Please buy some souvenirs to support.

It was an amazing experience to be there. We saw a great artist who’s been carrying a magnificent tradition until today. I highly recommend visiting this shop. You won't regret it!

Wonderful little workshop where paper is made by an old technology. You can buy prints made on this paper for three euros. There is also a replica made in the 19th century of a Gutenberg printing press. The fellow running the shop is very friendly and eager to explain things. It's a workshop and NOT a museum, seems a lot of people gave this place unreasonably low reviews. I wanted to give 100 dinars to the man becauae he was so helpful but he insisted in not taking it!

Phenomenal small museum offering a demonstration of paper production and printing on a Gutenberg press. Lots of choice of paper, notebooks and prints. All around a very pleasant experience.

Although smalller than St Sophia this is a prime example of Eastern Roman architecture and painting in the town and the whole of the Balkans. The frescoes inside are breathtakingly beautiful but photographs are strictly forbidden, I snapped a picture but the guy guarding the place made me delete it, probably wanted a bribe as I see plenty of pics from others here on google maps. This is a place not to be missed when in town regardless of your faith

The church was built in 1295, and is one of the oldest churches in the historic town of Ohrid in southwestern Macedonia. There is a holy spring (hagiasma) located southwest of the church and its Turkish name, Sulu Manastır (“Water Monastery”) reflects this. There are beautiful frescoes inside the church but unfortunately photographs are strictly prohibited

Amazing little museum. Interesting mix of recent history with furniture and clothes with rooms of the house recreated as they would have been when the family lived there and artefacts from archaeological digs spanning the last 8000 years. Definitely recommend.

Careful. Reception floor so full of many holes that one can turn your ankle so easily. Could ruin your visit, day or trip.! Skip and see Skopje archaelogy museum. I told the lady and she said oh yes we "ok know" so its negligence. Their fees over your health! See photos to show I was there.

An absolute must visit in Ohrid. The first time I came to Ohrid in October 2020 I neglected to visit. Upon my return in August 2021 I made a visit. The museum was practically empty. It was also great there was an incredibly helpful staff member that answered all questions in detail. He also did not ask for anything in return. Really neat to see an ISIS statue from over two millenniums ago. Previously I have only seen alabaster ones in Egypt and this one was marble. Awesome house. Just an overall gem!

We went on Monday and unfortunately it was closed, but even the outside view is perfect.

Amazing and very educational experience, the tour took almost 2 hours. There is an archaeological part with artefacts from different historical periods. It took them a few years to reopen the museum, but it was worth the wait.

This place is definitely worth visiting. We had the benefit of lovely commentary by one of the members of the staff and because it was the first Wednesday of the month. It was actually free but it’s definitely worth stopping in

A must visit in Ohrid! I've never catched it opened till now so i think im in love with it! First of all, its huge! There is 3 or 4 floors, many rooms, museum part. You'll learn much about Ohrids history, dating back from the 2 century b.c. Awesome wood carvings on the walls and furniture. Artifacts, clothes, pottery.. Educational experience!

Very amazing museum with 4 stories and full of different collections, including furniture, clothes, accessories, weapons, etc... I especially like how they managed the automatic lamps with sensors, friendly to the environment. 👍(They charge extra 10mkd if you pay with card)
