beautiful wide beach off Rye (took a short bus ride). fine soft sand and lovely walk - definitely walk along the higher sand dunes if you get the chance - better views especially at sunset! would definitely come back in summer to enjoy the water!!

Lovely walk to the beach. Great bird watching opportunity if you're interested. There's a hide along the walk. Easy access, flat walk and friendly for wheels. Dog friendly too. Donation for parking. Public toilets near the car park.

Great church situated at the top of the hill, so you get spectacular views of Rye if you climb the narrow steps to the top of the tower, for only £4. The magnificent stained glass windows are so beautiful. It even has a gift shop, selling pens, postcards and magnets etc. All reasonably priced. So big inside the church, I didn't think it was that large from the outside. The clock is so beautiful and you can buy postcard and magnet of the clock as a little keepsake. Well worth a visit amazing church.

You should definitely stop in at the Heritage Centre in Rye during a visit to this historic town and see the short show, which lasts about 15 minutes. You see and hear about the history of the town, with smugglers, royalty and tragic romance all set against the backdrop of the fabulous scale model with newly restored lighting giving a birds eye view of the most historic (in terms of number of preserved historic buildings) in England. Did I say "historic" often enough to do the town justice? Possibly 😃.

I thought the cobbled Street leading up to the house was full of beautiful properties. The houses had fantastic names like ' The house with a seat', ' The house with two doors ' If like us you enter the house banishing your National Trust cards, your soon told to go next door to get an entrance ticket. This wasn't obvious as we noticed several other visitors doing the same. Larger notices might help! The garden is the Largest in Rye apparently, we found this out on our visit. My other favourite piece of information from the staff was that Henry James gave lavish dinner parties but was very frugal when he ate alone.

Outstanding church at the centre of the picturesque small town of Winchelsea, with atmospheric ruins in the churchyard and magnificent stained glass windows. The windows date from between 1929 and 1933, and were designed by Scottish artist Douglas Strachan and gifted by Scottish barrister Robert Younger. They are themed with biblical scenes, war memorials and local imagery. Other notable features inside include the impressive stone tombs built into the walls, and the large organ. Construction of the original gothic church building began in 1288. However, the building was extensively damaged in a French raid in 1380, and its condition deteriorated over the next five centuries. By the early 1800s, the building was at risk of collapse, but was extensively restored in 1850. Today, it is beautifully maintained, and a credit to the town. There's unrestricted parking available on nearby roads for visitors to the church, and information books inside the church detailing its history and significant features. The Easter flower arrangements inside were lovely to see.

A great way to spend a rainy afternoon in Rye. We went along with grandsons aged 7 and 8 and all of us had a really good time. Olly is excellent at involving everyone and even the most reluctant quickly became absorbed in the plot. This really stretches children's imagination and is a great introduction to theatrical performance.

My older teen and I had a paddle board lesson through the Kitesurf Centre, using a Virgin Experience voucher. Great communication from booking through to instructions emailed the day before. There were changing rooms at the centre, a portaloo and loads of free parking in the car park next door. We had such an amazing time and our instructor was brilliant - very calm, clear, knowledgable and experienced. He made the session really fun and it was just the right length of time. There was no pressure to stand up (rather than kneel) but he was encouraging and on hand if we did fall in, to help us back on the board. Wetsuits, along with a buoyancy jacket, were provided. We were worried about how cold we would get in the sea (with it being May) but the wetsuits were amazing - thick enough that we didn’t get cold at all. Top Tip - take matters into your own hands and make sure you voluntarily jump into the sea early on…. suddenly all fear of falling in was gone and we gained loads more confidence in standing up! Can’t wait to use our own boards this summer - I feel much more confident about going in the sea with them and making decisions about safety. Thoroughly recommend a paddle boarding lesson with the Kitesurf Centre - it’s a great sport for all! Thanks for a great experience!

The best pub in rye and possibly the best in England too! Amazing cider, great beer, amazing decor, lovely staff, the best atmosphere. Family run pub with a quirky owner and a potato competition on Sundays! Will come back to rye just for this pub!

Did a walk through Rye Harbour nature reserve and got to see Camber Castle, at least from the outside. The inside is only open from Aug to Oct every year but it was still worth it. This is a wonderful structure to view and in an amazing spot. If you find yourself visiting Rye take a walk over to the castle. It was only a couple miles from the station, about 45 mins of walking. It was my favorite part of my day in Rye

A very calm and quiet church. It is small, located by the cobbled road which hosts a number of places with historical significance. The walk from the town centre and climbing the hill through the cobbled stones road feels like walking bacjk in time. The priest there was very welcoming and warm. Will visit again.

Booked a kite buggy lesson with Anthony. Wife, kids and I all managed to get moving on the buggy by the end of the lesson and were super happy with the outcome. Anthony was a patient and competent instructor. We booked the 4 person special (£220) but found that a fifth participant joined our course and slightly stretched the instructor's capacity. Worth asking for many you'll be, I guess. Either way we would happily return for more kiting with Anthony 👍🏻
