I was overwhelmed by this precious, holy place! The architecture and artwork take your breath away. I was fortunate to pray in all 3 churches, the Grotto, walk the stations of the cross up the hill, attend mass and, of course, get the water. And all this was during Holy Week! A must see for everyone!

We went back to Lourdes crossing the Pyrenees mountains covered in fresh snow coming from Spain. We like to walk near the river from the entrance to the basílicas and the grotto. We were able to attend a Rosary for World peace in five languages. Each basilica has unique characteristics to explore. #AbuelosMochileros

Beautiful serene place to revive your religious spirit. Lots of events happening throughout the day and in different languages. Daily Eucharistic procession at 5pm. Daily candlelight rosary procession at 9pm. Very touching processions. Masses held in various languages in the chapels and Basilica of Immaculate Conception, Basilica of the Rosary, etc. The grotto is beautiful and has Masses and rosaries said at the Grotto. Definitely worth the visit. Lots of shops selling religious, good quality items. Very friendly and safe place overall.

Lourdes is such a beautiful little town. Set beneath the pyrennies mountains. The landscape is green and inviting. Whether you are religious or not, this little gem is friendly and charming. People are friendly, and the food was amazing. Several opportunities arise to witness and partake in the religious experiences.

Splendid cathedral..beautiful day and night and in all the seasons...the grotto is located on the right side shortly after passing through the arche...I dunno why I expected grotto to be on that hill next to the cathedral:) ...there is a full program for believers..masses in different languages and in some months candle processions and so...they will tell you about the program at info center and even in english...even as a non believer I found this place magical and comforting

It's a major pilgrimage site for Christians. Since I am not I enjoy walking around and admiring the sanctuary's architecture and the cave underneath. The river flowing coolly by, down town with some beautiful buildings.

A once in a lifetime experience. We felt so blessed to have a the opportunity to visit this wonderful place despite the lengthy journey from Paris. I’ve been to other Marian sanctuaries including the Guadalupe and Fatima, yet enjoyed this one the most. The Sanctuary is breathtaking and the minute you walk in you can feel the peace and beauty that lies inside. There were so many pilgrims yet everything was so well organized that at no point did we feel overwhelmed. The group of volunteers is unlike anything I’ve seen before and the main Basilique is astonishingly beautiful. We enjoyed attending mass in the early morning - and were rejoiced to attend one in our native language on Saturday along with confessions. The visit to the Grotto was absolutely special and the evening procession can’t be put into words - something you have to experience to describe. We stayed for two full days and three nights, which I highly recommend so you can absorb the experience without feeling rushed.

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes is one of the most important Catholic pilgrimage sites in the entire world. What can I say? Most amazing place where I get my spiritual energy.

How do you rate a place of apparitions. I found it a relaxing experience. There was mass said in diferent languages every day. I felt calm during my visit. People were quite emotional sometimes and this was fine. I also sat across the river for somtime and it was just calm and relaxing. I was on shirt break alone but was never left to fell that way. I knelt and received communion on the tongue which was somthing quite special. There is a feeling of hope here. The story of Bernadette has reached all corners of the world. She is an inspiration. This is an inspiring story of an apparition of the immaculate conception. To be there and kneel were this took place is beyond belief really. A peaceful nighttime visit is really exhilarating enjoy.

Perfect place to sqy your prayer. They have scheduled rosary and mass. Beware that they have 2 session, nov to april and may to oct. Come on the first session if you dont like crowd yet less activity.

Very expensive but the views are stunning. Would not recommend walking to the top once disembarking from the funicular at the summit. The view is no better and the walk up is dangerous as the footpath is unstable.

A must see sight while in lourdes for all ages. A short trip to the top to view outstanding scenery and relax in a cafe/ Bar which was good value for money. You can also walk up another 500/ 600 metres which is difficult for some people. But from the cross, even better views Enjoy.

Fabulous if in Lourdes don't mind Google maps 1hr 30 min walk 30 minutes I was from Grotto entrance to beginning of Funiculaire entrance, top class and shout out to all staff very friendly enjoy the visit Cappuccino €3.50 and a large 2 Crepes with filling €4 this for location is very affordable return trip €12 if you have mountain bike experience fantastic trail and no work just the fun adrenaline down,that said you will work to control bike on decent enjoy 5 Stars.

This is a fun mountainside funicular built in 1900 and able to transport up to 80 passengers on a 1.1 km journey to the top of a mountain (950m). The ride is about 15 minutes and runs on a departure schedule, both directions, every 20 minutes. Return ticket prices were (€9 per adult) when we visited recently. They can be purchased at the ticket booth in the lower station. Beside the upper station there is a small restaurant, some short hikes around the forested area and countryside up at the peak. There is a grotto (not open when we visited) and cycling trail that starts just beside the restaurant before winding down down the mountainside. Loads of viewpoints. You can see Lourdes, valley below and Pyrenees Mountains from the mountaintop. Overall, this is a very enjoyable activity for those visiting Lourdes

Love this place. Been twice now. The Funicular is the longest ride of its kind I've been on. Great value and you can purchase a ride and lunch in one ticket at the bottom to save money. We also visited the caves this time (wasn't open in April 22) lovely tour with some additional art pieces by a local artist in the tunnels too! Take your binoculars to see the Pyrénées Eagles and Griffin Vultures too...at sight to see! The café does excellent food before 2pm (not great for dietary reqs so take a packed lunch if this is you).

An interesting powered ascent up to a viewing area with spectacular scenery extending many miles. An industrious cafe at the top provides quick service for drinks, and also light meals or snacks. You can climb higher via switch back footpaths, either tarmac or just a beaten track to the summit where it is possible to climb steps up a now defunct old scientific gathering station to have a 360° uninterrupted view.

The larger and newer Basilica in the Lourdes Grotto complex. Although larger, the design is more modern and austere and looks like another modern catholic church. Bonus is that it could accommodate a large number of people attending their mass service. Felt like more commercialized than the other components of the Grotto complex. I think this purpose is more to accommodate as many pilgrims than say the other Basilicas or other parts of the complex.

This basilica is giant, it can accommodate more than 10 thousand people in a mess.

We struggled a bit to find the church originally only to realise that it is almost at the front as you enter through the gates of the basilica to the left. Very modern concept of an underground church. Massive in size that you wouldn’t believe it was there unless you saw it. It was very quiet when we went and no service taking place, I can’t imagine the church at full capacity considering the large space. Worth a visit if you are visiting the sanctuary.

This is one of three basilicas within the Sanctuary of Lourdes grounds. It opened in 1958 and has the capacity to hold 25,000 people. The architecture is interesting and there are artworks that encircle the subterranean seating area, including very nice overlapping stained glass works.

Quite spectacular underground open space. And the accoustics amplify the prayers nicely. However if you want a overview of the candlelight procession from above then the concrete pillars block most of your view. Conversely if you're standing down low, bright lights dazzle the view of the ceremony. I much prefer the view from outside when standing on the balcony of the cathedral. Please note, many of the prayers of the monks and spectators are pre recorded and not live audio.

There were 20,000 of us attending the International Mass. Everything was perfectly organised. An unforgettable experience I highly recommend.

So grateful the home to Saint Bernadette has been preserved. It is a humbling experience to get a sense of how she and her family lived in this very small home. The energy as expected is peaceful and calm, I found it to be quite emotional. I can only imagine the scenes within this home when it became known that Saint Bernadette revealed her knowledge of The Immaculate Conception. A definite visit to take a walk back in history and in the footsteps of Bernadette Soubirous.

Of all the reviews posted, none mentioned that St. Bernadette's current heirs to the home live there and operate the gift shop to keep things going as a museum. This is original catholic church in Lourdes. When we visited there it’s under the repairing inside so, only could take a look outside and some part of inside. It’s a beautiful one. In front of the middle gate you can see 4 status. One is Jeanne d’arc, another is of course Bernadette and, two more saints (male). Inside you can see the place where st bernadette got baptism. It means the church is the one st bernadette came to the mass also. If you go Lourdes, visit here. Beautiful place.

The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception is one of three important churches along with the crypt and the lower Basilica of Our Lady of Rosary which were built upon the grounds where St. Bernadette experienced her apparitions in the city of Lourdes. This is a separate Way of the Cross walk that visitors can enjoy if they are unable to make the the 1.5km long (Upper) Way of the Cross walk up the hillside to the south of the Sanctuary of Lourdes grounds. The (Lower) Way of the Cross attraction is located just north of the river and west of the Chapel of Candles. There you will find marble statues representing the Stations of the Cross.

While in Lourdes, I went to see The Lower Stations of The Cross. I was told by one of our Leaders, about Christ’s road from when he was arrested to when he was crucified & when he rose from the dead. The Lower Way of The Cross, is situated across the river from Massabielle Square & The Grotto. If you are visiting Lourdes, ask at The Tourist Office for directions as they are quite a distance from the gate entrance to Rosary Square. Stephen Acton.

Pretty spot to sit and enjoy the view. Can get crowded on a sunny day. The cafe near the car park is handy but overpriced. Water around the lake is a bit muddy, so not ideal for wading into, but there is a proper bathing area that's better. My daughter appreciated the climbing frame and the sandpit.

A really great fortified antient city with well preserved defence wall and 52 towers. The old city inside is a pearl worth visiting.

A town of two completely differing personalities. The town centre is overrun with shops and stalls selling what only can be called religious "tat"! The other parts of town are beautiful and well maintained. I guess the former goes hand in hand with the latter.

I can't explain the amazing feeling I have felt in this place. Thanks God for this site.

We were lucky to have a great warm day without crowded people in January. The place was fantastic to visit!!

Lourdes, France attract numerous faithful Catholics all year round. The infamous grotto where daily Mass were said and rosary recited. The 5pm Eucharistic procession from across the river Ouse to the Basilica of Piux X and the nightly rosary procession at 8pm do bring along a candle. Quiet prayers in the Church of Immaculate Conception and in the Church of the Rosary admire the beautiful side altars depicting scenes in the Rosary prayers. Confessional or contemplation at the Stations of the Cross. Plenty of hotels and eateries near the Sanctuary and if you are willing to wander into town there are supermarkets, fresh products Market hall and a artisan bakery too. Travel to Lourdes cannot be easier, direct trains from Paris, Toulouse, etc thereafter a walk from the train station or a short taxis ride to the umpteen number of hotels near the Sanctuary.

I returned from this splendid church with a lot of devotion to our lady. This place will surely remind you that God still loves his people and works wonders for them.

I had three masses here. Holy Thursday, Easter Vigil and Easter morning. It's cold, drafty, and had massive amounts of people. Bit what spiritually moving events! I will be back for mass here again. Dress warm if it is chilly outside we. I recommend getting there an hour early and volunteering for the choir (at least you could when we went).

The Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary (French: Notre Dame du Rosaire de Lourdes) is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica within the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes in France. Its main theme is a celebration and depiction of the Rosary. The Rosary Basilica is the third of the churches to be completed on the site (after the Crypt and the Upper Basilica). It was designed by architect Leopold Hardy and completed in 1899. It was consecrated in 1901 and has a capacity of 1,500 worshippers. Its style is influenced by Byzantine architecture. In 2006-7 the interior and exterior of the basilica were extensively renovated and the mosaics (many of which were deteriorating) were restored.

One feels peace all around and a deep sense of gratitude abounds oneself when seeing wheelchair bound persons that you can walk, talk, hear, see and feel. Hail to Blessed Virgin Mary. I highly recommend visiting Lourdes.

To be clear, this is a place with two identities; first and foremost it is a place of pilgrimage and devotion for the Catholic faithful, secondly it is a world class tourist attraction for the rest of us. And I have to say it serves both sets very well. The scale is what impresses as you enter the grounds. There is an enormous paved area in front of the church so it feels like a procession as you make your ways towards it. And it is all immaculately maintained and clean. Then the church looms up perched on top of the crag with its tall spires gleamingly restored looking like a fairy-tale castle. In fact this is a church upon a church and to reach the upper level involves a lot of steps or a long ramp but the view from the upper terrace is wonderful. I had to admire the craftsmanship of the lead work to the domed roofs and the brilliant gilding of the cross. To repair the main spire stone work must have been a mammoth task. The interiors are not as inspiring but nevertheless impressive. Access is not allowed during mass. The surrounding streets are now filled with memorabilia shops and restaurants and, although pedestrianised, heave with people, taxis and coaches all making their way to the entrance. And this was late September. We arrived by train but it is a good 25 minute walk from the station.

So incredibly beautiful! To think that this is the church our Lady asked to be built there gives me chills. There are three churches built on top of each other. Definitely check the Mass times (there's Mass offered in all three quite often) because the staff don't really want tourists in the churches during Mass.

There are quite a few historic places around Lourdes related to Bernadette and her family. Le Cachot is where the Soubirous family of six between in1857-1858 when Bernadette had her visions of the Virgin Mary. The room is small, difficult to imagine six living comfortably here. You'll see some pictures and be able to read general information about the family and property. Cards are available in multiple languages.

Simply amazing! The one room jail where St. Bernadette and her family lived at the time of the apparitions. An absolute must-see here in Lourdes.

Le Cachot was where the Soubirous family lived during the family’s financial hardship.

In 1857, the mill which was run by St Bernadette's father did not make enough money and the family was evicted. They were re-housed here in the Cachot. This one room of 16 sq metres, which had formerly been a prison, served as accommodation for 6 of them. It was from here that St Bernadette went to collect wood on the occasion of the first apparition of the Blessed Virgin on 11 February 1858. The site is kept well, with some explanatory displays. It is free to visit.

This is a small museum showing the very small single room where St. Bernadette lived at one time with three siblings and her parents. The 'hood' she wore and her wooden shoes are also on display. It doesn't take long to see but it's interesting.

Very nice place to visit to see how Bernadette lived. The only problem we had was a rude Spanish tourist guy who took over the whole room as we went in and wouldn't let other visitors by pass as it interrupted his talk. Very ruined guy. We did meet a French lady who was a guide in the building, but unfortunately, she had no English.

An incredibly humbling experience to be standing in the one small room where the six members of the Soubirous family lived after they left Boly Mill.

The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception is one of three important churches along with the crypt and the lower Basilica of Our Lady of Rosary which were built upon the grounds where St. Bernadette experienced her apparitions in the city of Lourdes. This is the chapel requested by the Virgin Mary, spoken to St. Bernadette during one of her visions. The church was built here along with the Crypt between 1862-1871. It can be entered by walking up the staircases above the ground level entrance to the lower Basilica of Our Lady of Rosary and the Crypt just below. The basilica is Gothic in style. You'll find a narrow and tall nave, ribbed vaults & series of stained glass windows that line the nave, the upper windows are of various religious scenes from the Bible while the lower windows, from left to right, tell the story of St. Bernadette and her apparition experiences here in Lourdes.

I felt like lifted to heaven when I visited the Basilica. I felt that Mary Mother of Jesus is just with me. Please go to her.... Whatever may be the trouble she can lift you and fill you with her eternal love and peace. Happiness... Joy...

Feels like home. So peacefull and lovely. You can stay here for the wholeday and never bored. The bells ring like an angelus song. Prayer in some different language is so unique and the must try activity is bath. Its such a spiritual activity. Buy candles outside (find the supermarket in the corner) is cheaper.

The smaller of the churches in the sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes. It sits on top of the Grotto of Massabielle. Don't forget to visit it after the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary.

I felt the warm energy when I went to the grotto, and again felt the warm energy on my right knee, which I believe is better and healed. Thank you for my well being, in Jesus name. Amen.

This tourist office is located just off the main north-south street, Ave. du Marechal Foch that runs through the city of Lourdes. It is just across the street from the historic Palais des Congres building and is open from 9am to 12.30pm (morning) and 2pm to 6pm (afternoon). Closed on Sundays. We recently stopped here for information about driving south of Lourdes into the Pyrenese Mountains. The desk help was very nice and showed us main driving routes and three popular destinations, describing well in English what we could expect to do and see while there. It made it much easier to plan a driving day trip out of Lourdes into the mountains a couple days later. A large tourist brochure booklet with maps was provided for free. Really helpful all the way around.
