Beautiful realistic models and timelines to witness the evolving variations of cheese. Cheese tasting samples are available with different flavours. Mint cheese with any spicy dip is my favourite. Overall, a best place to visit with family and friends if you are interested to witness the historic traditional business, or even just to taste some free cheese flavours!

I've never seen so many different kinds of cheese. You can buy cheese flavored with lavender, truffle, pesto and other unusual types. The prices are quite high. The quality is very good.

A calm place for cooling off and learning about Dutch culture and history proactively. There is a cheese tasting session where you can try varieties of cheese ranging from cow cheese to goat cheese, pesto flavored cheese to lavender flavored cheese. You will get to learn some basics of cheese making process. Just outside the shop, you will find some beautiful "well groomed" goats 🐐. There are other shops in the enclave showcasing Dutch clogs, weaving etc. A good place to bring family and friends.

Absolutely loved it! You can try a huge variety of their cheeses and then buy the cheese you liked, knives, spreaders and other cheese utensils, jams, jellies, spreads... They have a small room at the end where you can see the cheese making process. At the front there is a fenced area wit a few cute farm animals.

What a place for cheese lover, with more than 50 different flavour for your selection. Some of these are really unique like lavender, coconut etc. must visit shop if you come here for windmill.

You must go here it is a fantastic visit. You get the sample some delicious cheese and there's so many other things to do there. I recommend the smoke cheese. It is so good.

A cheese farmhouse with a little museum showing you how the cheese are made. They are goats and ducks and geese on the back of this farmhouse. You also have a nice view of the windmills along the river. And of course, you can get delicious cheese and other souvenirs here!

Nice small exhibit. Was nice to go through different rooms that give nice information about the cheesemaking and the history of it. There is also a 'shop' part where you can taste many different samples. In our opinion there are just better and more authentic brands which have less industrialized process. The worst thing here was the crowd. The place gets packed full of people between noon until the close time as soon as tourist buses flow into the area. Unfortunately some certain people seem to have absolutely no idea of what 'personal space' is, which make the experience hard to like :/ Maybe it would be a good idea to limit the people indoors.

An interesting visit to this cheese farm … it showed the old traditional ways of making the famous cheeses of the Netherlands…and to finish it you can try samples of different types and if you want you can buy some excellent cheeses … I recommend it

At first my dumb brain thought it’s actual people milking actual cow but soon realized it’s mannequin. It’s a pretty neat small exhibit that shows you the cheese making process from beginning to the end. The sales floor people are eager to have you taste all the cheese they have to offer. Definitely a must visit for the cheese lovers

From the moment I stepped into the Cheese Museum in Zaanse Schans, I was hit with the delicious scent of cheese. As a cheese lover, I was excited to learn about the history and production of cheese in this charming museum. The Cheese Museum is a small but informative museum that takes visitors through the process of cheese making, from the milking of cows to the aging of cheese. The exhibits are well-designed and interactive, with videos, photos, and even a few cheesy puns to keep visitors engaged. One of the highlights of the museum is the opportunity to taste different types of Dutch cheese. The samples were delicious and I found myself wanting more. The staff members were friendly and knowledgeable, answering any questions I had about the cheese making process. Aside from the exhibits, the museum also has a shop where visitors can purchase a variety of Dutch cheeses to take home. I ended up buying a few different types of cheese and they did not disappoint.

Lovely collection of windmills still working. The history of the area is very well laid out in the museum and was very educational. The clock museum has a lovely collection of long case clocks and the clog museum was fun.

In Zaans Museum you can see history of Netherlands and chocolate Factory. Then you can take a walk around old mills (this part is free), where you can buy souvenirs, cheese and go inside a mill. Overall very Nice, but near water there is an unpleasant smell of water (as you can see on the picture, its green).

The museum is beautifully designed and very informative. You could easily spend half a day here if you explore in detail. We visited on a Wednesday and practically had the place to ourselves due to the light crowds. If you come here, you won't be disappointed. You'll learn a lot about the history of Zan and Amsterdam as a whole. Highly recommended.

As we were visiting the historical village of Zaanse Schans with all its historical buildings and windmills, we decided to visit the museum there. The excellent exhibition opened our eyes to the importance of this region for the economic development of the Netherlands. It was the largest industrial and trade centre of Europe in the Middle Ages, and the museum shows the development of the wood, cocoa, rice, spices, cloth and household retail industries. We will definitely recommend this museum to any foreign visitors we host in future! Surprised on the cookie “Maria”, famous in Mexico my home country, made there. Had a great experience and recommended highly!

A great museum offering a mix of traditional exhibitions and historic structures and demonstrations. The primary museum is where you buy windmill passes and learn more about the areas unique history as a commercial and industrial engine through exhibits and artifacts. The attached chocolate and cookie museum is fun and includes a lot of kid friendly activities. And then the other exhibits include art, culture and other items. The most visible element are the preserved houses, workshops and windmills showing how this unique region became an industrialized hub well before steam power. The chance to enter these places, talk to experts and see them work is amazing. The workshops are less impressive some are little more than company museums (like the cheese shop) sponsored by big brands with a small nod to history, others like the bakers and the clog shop offer great demonstrations and a shop. The mills are the stars and when they have wind they put on a show both in and out as people work them just as they would have in the past. There is so much out 7 hours there were not nearly enough we missed out on at least 4 smaller museums and several mills.

I recommend to everyone. A very interesting complex! Do you want to enjoy your past life? Then this is the place for you. Zles and the nature are beautiful and an interesting museum. There are cafes and shops, I recommend them

Visiting the Zaanse Schans Museum is a special experience and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Extremely well-preserved and well-kept mills. There is also a museum. You can see traditional Dutch clogs. Very nice traditional houses and mills. Some clogs are really big. Lots of possibilities. You see a lot of history. And also the yami chocolate factory. Perfectly arranged.

This windmill Village was very good and well-maintained. The employees in the different shops & in the museums, were very friendly. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that is interested in architecture, wind energy or in the history of The Netherlands.

This is a very interesting place to visit. You’ll see how windmills operated back in the days.

Much authentic place. Nice view and possibility to visit windmills. Free entrance to the park, paid to enter windmill. If you travel by yourself the easiest way to get there is by bus from Amsterdam central station by connexxion bus. Tickets are available in gray machine on cental station, bus stop is upstairs. Ticket price is 11.5 euro and it is valid to the end of the day from the check in moment on both directions. Also you can get the train, but need to walk for a while. So if weather is not the best chose the bus. It come straight to park gate.

This is an interesting, and expansive, museum exploring the history of the region and it's impacts on industry locally and globally. There's a nice audio tour going through products and windmill history, plus a bunch of displays about the daily life of people from back in the day that did not shy away from acknowledging the dark impacts of colonialism and slavery. Everything is very well put together and presented well

De Kat was originally an oil mill but was rebuilt after a fire and is since a chalk mill. The chalk is combined with pigments to make paints. We had the I Amsterdam Card so we could go in for free, otherwise I think it's 2 or 3 euros to enter, but it's really worth it. You can climb up the steep stairs to go into the room with gears, and from there out onto the deck. From there you can see the blades (sails) upclose and also take a nice panoramic photo of other nearby mills. Definitely don't miss.

Short ride from Amsterdam via a train. Nice place to see windmills if you have a few hours. If you have a full day and a car I recommend visiting Kinderdijk near Rotterdam for largest windmill area in Netherlands.

The collection of well-preserved historic windmills and houses are must see sightseeing place when you travel to Amsterdam. From Amsterdam central station to the nearest station takes less than 20 mins followed by 15 mins walk to the windmill village!

Interesting to see this working mill, its moving parts from the groundfloor and upstairs. A very cute movie can be watched about a day of paint mill. The view from the terrace is awesome

A must-do experience if you visit the Netherlands, go inside a windmill! We got there early, just before the tour buses. This particular windmill did not get too busy. You can go inside and climb right out on the deck when the windmill is doing its thing. Very cool on a beautiful day. Plus, it's amazing to see and hear the inside...

Awesome place to enter during your visit to Zanse Schans. You can see how the windmill produces paint powder with its gears system. It’s also possible to climb to the top and enjoy the amazing views. The tickets cost 5,50 per adult and 3,50 kids. There’s also a small shop for souvenirs inside.

Beautiful amd breath taking. Did a 3 hour tour from Amsterdam. Made our weekend extra special. Felt so peaceful and calm with breath taking views.

This windmill allows you to go upstairs to oversee the village, the entry costs 5.5 euros. I think it was a special experience, though the tour was rather short.

The most interesting windmill in Zaanse Schans, definitely worth the visit. Seems to be the most popular though, the place was too crowded on a Sunday afternoon. They should regulate the number of visitors coming in. Beware staircases inside are steep and I saw many elderly people struggling with it. If you are coming with kids, keep on eye on them. Also on windy days be careful not to get too close to the windmill sails on the observation deck because they are turning very quickly 😅

We choose to visit the area in the early morning and it was a good decision because at 9:20 a.m when we arrived there were some cars and few buses; after one and a half hours becoming extremely crowded (being also the Saturday of the extended weekend of May 1)

They really should pay attention to the people they're hiring. Some help you and others crumple up your shirt in the bag and don't even bother greeting you at the checkout. Not to mention that many can't even speak Dutch? That's just weird. I'm giving it 2 stars because of the bargains there.

Fantastic experience. Highly recommended. They have videos to give information on clog making and where they are still worn. Entering the shop you will see displays of old machinery and half made shoes. Walking along you will come to an area with thousands of pairs on the walls and ceilings and other gifts to remind you of the Netherlands. Prices range from cheap to expensive. Magnets cos around €3 each.

The visit is free. I enjoyed the demo on wooden shoe making (clogs). They also sells clogs there. Variety of them. Friendly people and very assistive. The only thing i wish for is that it is bigger for us to roam around. Can be quite congested around the souvenir place when tour comes in with a bus load of people

Everything was pretty and good. The only thing that I don’t like was their exchange rate(1$=0.86€) Considering that the exchange rate of these days is 1$=0.92~0.95€(April 2022) Although they are saying they don’t charge any commission, they are already charging you much. That means they don’t charge you ´additional’ commission.

Brilliant experience - we went here on a 3 hour afternoon trip with Zaan Tours and had a great time watching the shoemakers at it, seeing many different types of clogs & taking some great photos! This area is great to learn more about Dutch landscape and culture

This is an absolutely amazing wooden shop workshop cum museum cum souvenir shop. They have various types of interesting souvenirs in all price range, starting from inexpensive to expensive ones. The staff is really helpful and polite. If you are visiting this area, this shop is a must to go. Parking is usually not an issue. You can reach also here from Amsterdam city through city buses.

Entrance to the Wooden Shoe Workshop of Zaanse Schans is free of charge, where visitors can enjoy a demonstration of clog making. The variety of designs available for purchase adds to the experience. Despite being a popular tourist attraction, the staff remain friendly. However, visitors should be prepared for crowds due to its popularity.

This was a good tour and overview of the Dutch cheese and shoe making process. There was a wooden shoe making demonstration as well as a cheese sampling. I thought the most interesting part was about the houses in the area. Some date back to the 1700's. The tour was about 2.5 hours which is about right for a pleasant afternoon. The rainbow was a bonus!

Absolutely a must visit location. The clog making workshop has presentations all day long, so you can see it whenever, and it's 5 to 6 minutes long so there's no long waits. They are also free, at the entrance you can see the history and evolution of clog making and then go into a well stocked souvenir shop.

The place is nice when it comes to sharing information about wooden shoe making. There is a small workshop inside which you can see the clog making in action. There are also many different types and sizes of clogs. However again the experience is less enjoyable when you are packed in with hundreds of people at the same time in a small area. Maybe it's a good idea to limit the number of people inside. Until the time there is a more proper reservation in place, we recommend that you come here early before those huge packs of people start pouring in with the tourist buses :)

Nice stop, where we were able to see several examples of clogs. The displays were nicely done. They had an area set up with equipment used to make them as well. We were able to try pairs on to see what they felt like. They offered seveal for purchase. It's worth the time to check out if you're in the area.

Amazing experience! This is one of the oldest museums in Netherlands, house is nearly 400 years old. Take a short tour for extra €5 to learn more about Peter I visit and visitors of the house throughout the centuries and find a Napoleon signature on one of the walls. Museum is very well preserved.

The Czar Peter House (Dutch: Czaar Peterhuisje) is a historical building in Zaandam, the Netherlands. It is best known as the place where Czar Peter I of Russia (1672-1725) resided in 1697 during his Grand Embassy. The building was constructed in 1632. Czar Peter was here to learn from the Dutch about boat building. The box bed is huge. Czar Peter was a very big man, reportedly standing 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m). The wooden house is inside another one, a later on erected brick house like a brick shell, to be able to preserve the wooden house better by shielding it from the weather and being able to regulate the atmosphere inside. It certainly is a very interesting place to visit and see. A friend of mine took me here on 12 February 2015 and we were the only visitors here, making it a very rewarding visit as we were able to see everything as if Czar Peter could have walked through the door at any moment. I shall definitely return.

Great ride from Amsterdam to Zaandam. 10 min by train. Zaandam is pretty little town. Museum was easy to find, very well kept, lady at reception fill me in with hysterical fact, I find more inside. Enjoyed very much. Worth to come.

It is small but really cute . Entrance is quite cheap at 5€. It is said to be the oldest still existing wooden house in the Netherlands. Czar Peter the Great stayed here for 8 days to study shipbuilding . It takes about 15 or 20 mins to walk around in it and I recommend it.

Interesting small museum with one of the oldest houses in The Netherlands inside a brick building to protect it. The house became famous after Tsar Peter the Great stayed there incognito (at first) in 1697 on his mission to learn shipbuilding. Being a tall man with 2,04m you wonder how he managed to live in that small house when Dutch people were only 1,65m tall at that time. On the sides of the old house are interesting panels on history. Obviously the place is popular with many through the years but especially with Russian visitors. No wonder the ladies at the desk are of Russian origin but speak fluent Dutch as well. The museum is only a 15 min walk from the train station which has a direct connection to Amsterdam

A nice spot. You are able to have a detailed look on this very old ship-like building. Staff was super friendly. It's a bit expensive though.

It is one of the must-visit places while in Zaandam. It is a good opportunity both to visit the oldest wooden building in the Netherlands and to learn the history of Russian-Dutch relations. The museum was built outside to protect the wooden building and the museum card is valid.

We learned a lot of interesting facts from our guide. The lady had great storytelling skills and it felt as you were taken few centuries back. Really hope that the culture will continue bridging different countries as it used to do before the war.

Amazing windmill, very well kept and working, if wind allows, but the cherry on top is the staff who explain very clearly and thoroughly about everything, every question answered! We engaged in an hour long conversation with them without noticing, truly the best of them all to visit

We had the most amazing visit to this beautiful wind powered saw mill. We also met the most enthusiastic 81year old volunteer (Tom??) who taught us the history of the mills, the Netherlands and keenly showed us the workings of the mill. A big thank you to the “family” that operate and show this mill. A must visit if you are near Amsterdam.

One of the active windmills which allow visitors. This one is the sawmill. Spent like an hour here watching them load the timber, trimming & then cutting it. All with the use of the windmill. Quite a marvel. Friendly owner & staff who take time to explain the process. There is also a small museum below. Am happy I walked in. There is a small fee of 5 Euros but definitely worth it. A must do when visiting Zaanse Schans. Suitable for both kids & adults.

Classic Dutch vibes featuring windmills and love of mother nature. But it’s not JUST the windmills. It’s the beautifully preserved nature that’s the biggest charm of this city. You can walk around and spot livestocks chilling and eating their food. You don’t see that many automobiles if any. And just being here basically heals your soul.

Totally worth its price! Interesting and grabbing video "how it's made" can be watched at the entrance. The visiting of real and working mill a must have if you are there. Recommended to buy combined ticket to visit "Cat" mill as well.

Lovely place and people. The staff working in windmill were very friendly and gave detailed information about the history. Staff at the reception is slightly rude. Easily accessible and value for money. You cannot go to the higher level in this windmill but still it was worth it. Worth visiting.

Zaanse Schans “village” is approximately 30 minutes away from Amsterdam City. It can be reached by train from the airport or central station. There is a 10 minute walk from the station the the village. If you visit Amsterdam i highly recommend that you take a half day trip to this quiet place and enjoy a stroll among the mills. Take a snack with you or enjoy one of the food outlets there.

Windmill De Zoeker is one of the working windmill in Zaans. There are machinery inside the windmill for grinding various spices from different countries. No entry fee to the windmill is required and it is a good experience to see what is going on with the grinding process here. You can also select a bunch of spices which are on sale. There are very pretty villages around too. Really enjoyed the trip.

It is a very beautiful place where you can see part of the history of the place. Each mill was like a small industry, each with its own role ... cutting wood, making colors with the power of the wind. The parking lot seemed quite spacious. Admission to the complex is not paid. It is paid only at the entrance inside the mills. There are souvenir shops, food, drinks. You can taste and buy local cheeses. It is a bit crowded but well worth a visit. It is very close to Amsterdam from where organized tours are made to visit the place

Note: Stairs are too steep not might be hard for old people or families with small kids to climb but definitely worth the view.

A very surprisingly interesting museum about clocks and the measurenent of time. I personally got here a little late about 10mins before closing kind of ironic seeing how it's a museum of time keeping. The displays where beautiful and the staff was super friendly. Admittion was included in my I Amsterdam Card which meant I still got to see the museum even if it was 10mins as I didn't have to pay out of pocket for full ticket for a fraction of the time.

The sawmill and the wooden shoe exhibit were very interesting. It's worth the trip.

This place was so good and it was so peaceful and pretty. The small water canals, the lakes, the wooden hut houses, the mills. It is always good to check weather and then go else it might be too cold. It’s just half an hour away from Amsterdam central. You can take a train to reach here and can spend like an hour to see this whole place. There are small coffeeshops and cafés and a super market. It’s walkable from train station.

Lovely little museum with the story of the pendulum clock and many types of clocks on display. For people interested in the maritime side of things they have a small session explaining how the invention of more accurate clocks helped the navigation. Worth the visit.

Zaandam was beautiful. Pictures can't capture all of its beauty. We took a taxi from Amersterdam, it cost €15 for 4 of us. It's free to enter, but there are options to climb some of the windmills for a fee. Parking is also available for a fee.

Plenty to see on a walk about, visiting the old houses and seeing the small shop. The clog maker is also worth a visit with its displays & demonstrations. A very good concept & layout for a museum.

Such a lovely and cute museum!! I loved going around with my husband and having a look at the beautiful clocks that are there the staff were so lovely, knowledgeable and helpful, they really knew their clocks! Will be back and I don’t have enough lovely things I can say about this cute museum.

There is wheelchair entrance and an awesome open foyer and Miriam Makeba performed here once by the way. The staff is vibey nice and seating is comfortable with hoog sitter for short kids availlable. We were here to watch Yamato The Drummers of Japan and it was an experience and a half. The sound hits right in your chest reveberating memories of african zulu dances, the lighting is on point and its nice and warm inside. The bar has drinks for both adult and young and warm drinks too. 391/392/394/65/69 busses stop 600 meters away throughout the evening and night for easy transport

Great theater, I like it very much. The concert building in Amsterdam was my favorite and when I change my place to Zaandam I changed also my favorite theater. It contains many halls for concerts, theater shows, music parties and many other activities. And they used some halls for companies seminars or meetings too!

This was good fun and this is an extremely good theatre and theres lots of good peopleshows here and i actually did one myself, i ordered nothing and i got a rose, very cool i like it, the atmosphere was sometimes being gassed with water to maintain air non-dryness but if you dont know what it is for the first time its scary but very cool theatre

Maybe too soon to review after one noon show during a pandemic, but I loved this place. The organization was good from QR codes to cloak room to venue. There was more then enough leg room aswell. Easy to reach from the station, free wardrobe, and free drinks after the show. I had a great evening here.

Lots of Wind mills. After I was there, I just realised that the wings can be turned. I think they need to turn it according to wind direction. Each wind mills is used on diffent purpose. This one is used to grind spices. Some are used for grid some kind of coal.
