One of the most extraordinary churches I have ever been in. The hand painted murals (and you are told there are 18,500 sq metres of them) are just wonderful - so detailed and so colourful - and so vast! I found the geometric one's fascinating - so precise and clever - given the tools available when they were painted. Do pay the 5 Euros for the audio tour - and click through all the suggestions - enough of what they say is interesting to make it worthwhile. The cathedral was also an oasis of cool and calm in the very hot spell we had earlier this month. Do visit - you will not be disappointed!!!!! (I've added a few photos but you need to visit to get the full grandeur!

You can almost literally touch Albi’a history conserved in stone. You can see two parts of it. The first one is available with no charge where you can see the organ and amazing patters and paintings. Then the second half of the cathedral includes a museum exhibition - so here you need a ticket - where you’ll see the treasury of the past and lots of interesting things. The rest of the church is a collection of mystery, murals, symbols and a pure wonder. I hope you’ll enjoy it. There is an audio guide available if you are so interested.

This lovely Cathedral with its superb architecture would be a destination in itself if the quaint town wouldn't keep the wondering visitor walking around its lovely streets. The food is also nice. A bit expensive for a little town off the beaten path.

So insanely huge I couldn’t get a good shot because it wouldn’t fit in the lens. But no matter it fills your eyes and brain with magnificence. The ticket price includes a superb audio guide which will keep you there for hours. You have to use the public WC outside but they will hold your audio guide and let you back in so don’t suffer.

A truly spectacular cathedral. Honestly, all I could say when I walked in was, "Wow!". The paintings are spectacular, with several lovely small things to note, such as the rhyming prayer mural in one of the side chapels. The choir is just incredible, and I heartily recommend paying the 6€ fee for entering inside it with the guided audio tour. I've never seen stonework like it, and I've been in a vast number of cathedrals all over Europe. It's almost lace-like in structure. The treasures are well worth the effort of climbing the stairs too, if you're capable. The embroideries are fabulous and the exhibits are well thought out and documented. We were sad to miss hearing the organ play as we arrived at the end of Sunday Mass and it really is an incredible instrument to behold, with the widest case in the whole of Europe, taking up the entire width of the nave. Even if you've seen other cathedrals with painted interiors, I promise you that you've never seen anything quite like Albi. Most definitely worth a visit.

I fully recommend to visit this art museum. The art collection is top notch, very interesting and we'll presented. But the real jewel is the building; there is an exhibition about the history of the building and the restoration process that was done on it that surprised me and that I enjoyed even more than the art exhibitions. Sadly they were making preparations for an event and we were not allowed to visit the gardens.

You will have seen Toulouse-Latrecs work on classic posters, Moulin Rouge etc. Now you can see many of them in one place and learn about the life of the artist, on display in a fascinating building, along with interesting works by other artists also. Really worth about an hour and a half, to two hours of your time.

Loved the place. Spent a long, long time in there. Taking my time to appreciate the works. I would definitely recommend going. When I return to Albi I shall go back. Reason so I can look at it all over again and see if I can pick up on things I may have missed in the art work. Also revisit the gift shop lots of post cards I would like to buy and frame up.

Probably the most photographed scene in Albi. The old bridge has an interesting history. Good place to watch the huge catfish from when they are hunting pigeons! Also, great views. Just watch for dog poo that owners don't pick up hence 1 star knocked off.

Nice historic area. We found a public parking nearby and walked to the view point and then to the city center by crossing the old bridge. There is some work going on the bridge so only pedestrians can cross it. Albi looks like a town rich in heritage and history. Definitely recommend.

This 151m long medieval bridge crossing the Tarn river in the city of Albi was originally named Pont du Tarn. It was built between 1035 and 1042. However, the oldest parts you see today date back to the 13th century. It was very interesting to know that the bridge contributed to the urban and commercial development of the city. And the money that was collected (toll) was used for the maintenance of the bridge and also the city walls.

Most helpful. Friendly and multi-lingual staff provided excellent guidance, a very good value pass giving discounted entry to the museums, some shops and a free lunch at one of a choice of restaurants. Also there is an audio guide of the major landmarks in the heritage site.

Whatever you need, they can help'! The staff includes a lovely young woman who speaks fluent English making it even easier for those of us who don't have a total grasp of the French language. I highly recommend a stop here before you start your exploration of all Albi has to offer.

What a privilege to be able to visit this beautiful, private collection in such a charming and intimate space. The warm welcome we received from Mr. Miraille was lovely, to chat with him and listen to his story, to learn how he was inspired by his mother, a couturière for a Paris fashion house was wonderful. It all started from one dress that grew into a lifelong passion for collecting exquisite pieces of history, perfectly preserved garments and accessories that also have their own story to tell. The exhibition was curated and created with a style that made the whole experience highly unique and memorable. Some of my favourite pieces were "Les Billets Doux" the beautifully decorated little cylinders from 1760 to 1780 used to transport secret love letters, and also the decorated fan telling the story of the diamond necklace affair involving Marie Antoinette.
