This is just an incredible place to visit. Walk or bike around the huge park and be amazed by the old Khmer ruins. The park is VERY big so if you are walking around you can easily spend 2-3 hours here. It’s possible to walk on some of the old ruins too and there is excellent guidance by maps all over park. I went there in the late evening when sun was setting to get some beautiful pictures. This is without any doubt one of the best areas to experience in all of Thailand and on its own a great reason to visit Sukhothai

If you’re in Sukhothai, you’re probably here to see the historical park. The park itself is large, but you can easily get round on a bike (extra 10 baht to bring one in). The remains of the great city are a fantastic sight and one of the most impressive things to see in Thailand.

A great heritage site to learn about Thai history. The site comprises many temples. To travel around the huge site, you can ride a bicycle or rent an electric golf cart with or without a chauffeur. I like Si-chum Temple. It was assumed that the temple was built in the era of King Ram Khamhaeng the Great, or more than 700 years ago. You should have at least about 2 hours to visit about 6 or 7 highlighted temples in the area. You can park your car in a car park in front of the Historical Park or on the roadside. In my view, there are plenty space around the site to park cars even though we went there on a long holiday in Thailand.

Great UNESCO site. Definitely worth a visit if you travel in Thailand. You can really feel the weight of history, as you walk between the columns of the temples. You will see many Buddhas, with different expressions and postures. The site is pretty big, so it might be a great idea to take a bicycle or a little golf car, that you can rent on site. Please take into account the heat, as it gets really hot during the day.

Worth of a visit. Admission fee is 100 bahts per person. Walking inside is fine, but for those who don’t wanna walk, there is bike rental shop right beside the entrance. Only 40 bahts, and plus 10 bahts for the bike to go in the park.

This site is best viewed by hiring either a bike or golf cart. There are also group tours available. You can also walk around the park. The relics are well preserved, and the site is deserving of its UNESCO status. There are no stores or food shops inside the park - best to bring your own water and food. My wife and I spent 2 hours inside the park, and will return again tomorrow. The museum is worth visiting too - it is located not far from the entry to the historic park.

This is truly an amazing place to visit. It's only 100 baht for a ticket and you can hire a golf buggy to get around, and it's right in the centre of the new town, so it's easy to get to. If you like old architecture and to experience the culture of Thailand then you'll love Sukhothai. The temples date back about 900 years, and there's lots of different architecture styles at the various temples. Be sure to do a full lap of the place as there are lots of Buddha statues and individual temples to see. Definitely worth the visit, even if it's quite an effort to get there. You can also hire bikes from most hotels for around 50 baht, and hire a golf cart if you don't want to walk (at about 300 baht per hour). We walked and it is a very serene and enjoyable experience. Seeing the temples arrive dusk is in my opinion the best time to see them as it's a bit cooler and the evening mists make the temples look amazing against the backdrop of the mountains and palm trees.

Beautiful historic park and the area is beautifully demarcated with all the greenery and lightning. Entry is 100 baht per person, 10 baht for the bicycle and renting of bicycle costs 30baht. Its recommended to go around 3pm so that you can see the sunset. After sunset it gets really dark so you can’t see everything.

Beautiful place to ride a bike or walk or run around with many beautiful relics of the past. I do wish they keep more big trees covering the tracks though since it’s extremely hot during the afternoon. They offer electric buggy to save you from the heat!

Sukhothai Historical Park is a vast complex that houses the ruins of the ancient city of Sukhothai. It is divided into several zones, with the central zone being the most significant and well-preserved. Within the park, you'll find numerous temples, monuments, and Buddha statues that reflect the architectural and artistic styles of the Sukhothai period.

Beautiful UNESCO world heritage site. You can take a tour with bikes or with a small golf cart. The ruins are beautiful and surrounded by plentiful nature. Almost makes you feel like you're in an Indiana Jones movie. There is also a small market by the entrance which mostly offers small meals to share. There is lots of animals here making the barren ruins quite tranquil. There is loads of birds and butterflies roaming around and even a family of dogs. I could shoot some amazing photos here and it was an amazing trip.

This is a must do historical site to visit in Thailand . So if Sutothai is in your plans .then do go .. Walking around would be around 5 hours but if you are on a time schedule .then rent a bicycle around ...thats the ideal way ;) .Or if you want a crash course tour and photo opps then rent a golf buggy with or without driver and that way you will see the highlights in around 1 hour ;) Also advise to take an umbrella for either too hot or raining hard ,)

Absolutely loved this place. Lots of different temples and stupas from the old city all within walking distance of each other. There are also options of bicycles or electric buggies, if you want to get around more easily. The place is clean and well maintained and, even though quite busy when we visited, it was peaceful. Well definitely be visiting again to explore further!

Very beautiful to see, it’s was so peaceful. We visited day time and late afternoon for sunset. Lots of local school trips the day we went which was nice to see, they were all so friendly towards us and polite. Would recommend to cycle through as it’s so much easier, extra fee but not much at all so definitely do that. Star taken off because you pay the entrance fee for this and we assumed you could get into the other 2 sites but you have to pay again for each one. We thought it was quite steep.

Ancient mysterious sacred ruins, love it. Well not so mysterious but the vibe is there. It's a huge complex so by the end I wished I paid for the buggy to carry me and my family around. Go early before it gets too hot and hope to miss the big school groups. Exploring this just makes you wonder if there is a modern version of it in Thailand somewhere.

Beautiful temple that was done up and restored in the late 50s, a little steeper at 120 baht (for two people one foreign one thai) to get in in comparison to other temples I've been to but we'll worth it as it gets you into more in the northern section also.

The place is not big compared to other temples in Sukhothai. There are a lot of tourists visiting every day. The large Buddha in the middle of this place is called Phra Ajana. We can bring some flowers to pray to the Buddha. This place is also full of ancient architecture and a beautiful park which is great for a photo trip! Around the temple is some information about this place provided for the tourists.

What an amazing place. The 15-meter tall sitting Buddha is beautiful, photogenic and not to be missed in Sokhuthai.

If you are in the area go visit Wat Si Chum. It is beautiful. The grounds are large with many areas to meditate, walk and rest. We went early about 7:00 a.m. (before the tourists) which made it even more special. 45 minutes of walking meditation and chanting next to the big Buddha was very peaceful. There is a cost to get in, however, because I was accompanying Buddhist Monks, I did not have to pay so I am unsure what the cost would have been. There is a pretty clean restroom at the entrance and some small shops with very kind owners/attendees. A great place to spend as many hours as you would like. Highly recommend.

Stunningly beautiful site. Serene atmosphere. The majestic 200-year-old mango tree adds to the charm. If you are in need of a coffee, the stall nearest to the car park entrance/exit serves an EXCELLENT espresso!

Countless times visiting this ancient temple. The most beautiful Buddha image I have seen. We used to be able to climb up behind the Buddha. There were 700+ years old painting (with strong bat manure odor) inside the wall (it’s double walls here with the stairs to climb up behind the Buddha head) that they want to preserve so they (finally) not letting us do the climbing any longer. This temple is a classic. You should not miss it while visiting the ancient city.

It is beautiful and quiet photogenic with 200 years old wild Mango tree ,other than that nothing else to see. The Buda itself was restored so it wasn't the original but it is really beautiful if you care for this type of place you definitely must visit.

This is one of the finest temple in the northern zone of sukhothai historical park . Here you can see a big sitting buddha statue where the golden nail polish in Buddh is grabing your attraction . There is a Mango tree just beside the temple . Entry to this zone is 100 THB .

It felt like jump back in time 700 years…..I guess mostly because I was pretty much alone, that helped. It is well kept and the amazing thing is that you can literarily walk through the ruins. Well worth it, especially for the sunset.

Visited Feb 9. 2018. An awe inspiring and beautiful historic site. Felt like we were somewhere that time forgot. No other tourists were here February 2018 but maybe it’s become more popular. We took a round trip 2 hr bus from Chang Mai.

By far the largest wat in the area, and while it's mostly a ruin now, you could really imagine how spectacular it must have been in its prime! Really nice to walk around and explore all the details here!

Fantastic beautiful Thai temple, this historical place is the place for Loy Krathong festival here. I couldn’t come at night time but I do believe it will be very beautiful. You can see many beautiful temples. This historical park is more than 700 years. Mostly is ruins temples. It’s world heritage as UNESCO mentions. The sunset time is very nice. Rental bike to drive around the park is recommended 😄🚲

World heritage and must see place. It is far away from ancient city but should be here if you visit Sukhothai. The location is mountain so this gives us opportunity to excercise. Pls ride the bicycle to absorb the feeling of 800 years old civilization. Many temples to see and imagine how beautiful this city was long time ago.

A definite must visit. We got there a bit late at 4 pm, and the tram ride ends at 430pm. However, you can opt to walk, and the rangers allow you to stay past 5 pm, their closing time. Would have been better if we had arrived earlier and rented a bike for convenience. The park is well maintained, very shady, and perfect for a bike tour. Will definitely be back again. Foreigner pays 100b per person.

The little sibling of Sukhothai Historic Park, Si Sarchanalai is no less of a cultural experience. Much less frequented, the quiet park offers plenty of ruins and shady streets to explore. Bicycle rentals are 30/- each for the day and entrance for foreigners is 100/- and a 10/- charge to bring the bicycles into the park. To note: they offer free admission to everyone during the new year holidays. Absolutely a must see stop while exploring Northern Thailand.

Beautiful park worth visiting even though a little out of the way. 100 baht entry, bicycle hire available. Some very old temples and some great Buddha statues. There is also an old fire sacrifice temple which is pretty cool. Recommend coming early as it gets hot in the afternoon

Beautiful park with many ancient ruins. It'll be hot, bring water. Bicycles are poorly maintained so be careful. Brakes didn't work of either of our bicycles. The warning not to ride down but rather push the bike down the big hill is reasonable. With functioning brakes it would've been fun but our bike had no brakes 😆😂

Such an amazing place to visit Si Sachanalai historical park. This is a UNESCO World heritage site in Sukhothai province, it is about 50 km away from Sukhothai historical Park but I think it is worth the drive to see so many ancient temples in a site. We arrived about 4pm and there was a bit group arrived just before us, so we couldn't get on the tram, we end up walking in the park. It is worth the walk. There is free car park and free beautiful toilet facilities at the entrance.

I give my first time to Si Satchanalai Historical Park, first time heritage exploration. We choose to walk instead of rent a bicycle because we want to experience as a ancient people how they walk from one of temple to another temple, used our foot step to feel the power of every inch of land. We really enjoyed the entire itinerary of this Historical Park although the weather is very hot.

Beautiful ancient archeological site nestled among majestic trees and scenery with monuments and sanctuaries displaying the splendid works of the Thai culture and nation. If you are in the area or even if you're not, it is a must visit site and worthy of the trip.

The magic of this park is the level of original detail that can be seen. Minimal restoration gives one the chance to see the true age and patina of ancient ruins. This is the perfect, next-day follow-up to a visit to Sukathai Historical Park, where the ruins have undergone a greater level of restoration.

Like Sukhotai historical park, this is another beautifully kept monument to Thailand's rich past. Beautiful and inspiring. Well worth taking time out on your way north or south.

We toured this park via the tour guide driving a small tour bus. He drove us to the locations that have made this area famous amongst archaeologists. Some people hired bicycles to tour this historical park, others walked. Due to the heat, we enjoyed our tour bus option. Each item has a plaque that is written in Thai and English. We bought our park tickets from the office located not far from the park entry and the shops. There are food outlets near the main entry. To get to the historical park, we drove a rental car - but we did see some buses drive guests to the park’s main entry. The park entry was affordable. The park is well presented.

Tourist cart has major 3 stops for 15 min each. Less people here so you can enjoy slow trip. This historical park has a huge land in size, but the ruins are smaller relative to Ayuttaya or main Sukhothai historical park. They used peculiar volcano rocks and building style. Entrance fee Foreigner B100, Thai B20, Tourist cart B60.

Wat Si Sawai is one of the oldest temples in Sukhothai, the temple was founded in the late 12th or early 13th century as a Hindu shrine to Vishnu and the site of the Thiruppavai ceremony. The temple is enclosed by a double rampart and a moat. Striking are the three well-preserved laterite prangs representing the Hindu Trinity. The lower parts are of Khmer origin, while the upper part is of Thai make. Each prang contains a cella, possibly a stage for a lingam or statue, and a crypt. Around the 14th century the temple was adapted to the Buddhist faith: the vihara was added to the south of the central prang.

This wat has a different vibe from the others. It is influenced by Khmer architecture which is evident in the way it looks.

Known as the first capital of Thailand, a visit to Sukhothai Historical Park is an excellent destination for history and culture fans. Although my journey’s main focus was on other Sukhothai attractions, I ended up having a great time in and around the park. Located smack in the middle between Bangkok and Chiang Mai, this UNESCO World Heritage Site offers visitors a glimpse into the ancient kingdom of Sukhothai. Advice: Woke up 5:30, took a Grab taxi and rented a small golf cart around 6:30 when the park open. You have the bear in mind that we visited in May when the temperatures arrive to 39 degrees so I recommend to visit soon and with a vehicle to don’t loose time while the temperature is raising. We drove for 2h and visit all center, north and East.

Perhaps one of the oldest temples in the Sukathai historic complex demonstrates strong Khmer influence, reminiscent of structures you might see in Anghor Wat. A stunningly well preserved/restored site with a great aura of tranquility and spirituality.

It’s a Hindu temple which looks a bit different from most other sites in the city. It shows how the ancient kingdom allows religious diversity even after the king brought in Buddhism from the south.

A classic temple with Khmer influence. Originally it was built as a Hindu temple but was transformed into a Buudhist temple later. There are classic architectural styles of the Angkor periods with the maize lie prang (spire) adorned with The mythical nagas and celestial beings. Images of Buddha are carved into the niches on the prang reflecting the mingling of two religions. It's boundary wall is constructed out of laterite. The same material used in some Khmer temples around the Angkor areas in Siem Reap. Definitely a beautiful place to visit.

If I could have given a 10 (instead of 5 being the highest) I would. BLES is an amazing organization doing amazing things for the elephants. This is a true sanctuary where the elephants can just be elephants. I felt welcome as soon as I met Katherine and her beautiful family and staff. Right off we went on an elephant walk and found Lotus. She was making a rumbling sound hoping to find her other elephant friends. Once she did, the sound of pure excitement coming from them was so incredible. We would also have lunch delivered to a treehouse where we could watch the elephants below just be elephants. There is so much to rave about I can’t wait to return.

This is not an isolated incident, and I sorely regret not reading the other 1-star reviews before engaging with BLES. After researching ethical elephant sanctuaries in Thailand, I was sincerely touched by BLES’s story/mission and hoped a visit would be possible. I contacted Katherine 3 weeks in advance of my trip to Thailand and was so happy to hear that she had an opening. Her reply included a link to secure the booking with a €170 deposit, so I sent my deposit and asked if she could clarify where the sanctuary was actually located (there are two different locations/provinces listed on her website FAQ — Sukhothai and Uttaradit). In addition, I attached a screenshot of my bank transfer and asked if she could please confirm that she received it. Unfortunately, a complete lack of communication thereafter ultimately prevented me from visiting and sent my €170 deposit down the drain. Complete radio silence — no reply, no out-of-office message. In order to arrange travel and logistics to the sanctuary, one would need to know where it was located in advance. I patiently waited, but as the date was quickly approaching and I received no response to my follow-up emails, I ultimately resorted to contacting her via Instagram. She finally replied, saying she was “away from her laptop” but would come back to me in a week (days before my stay at BLES was supposed to begin). After sending one final email asking her to provide me with any information at all, it was actually too late. Going off an assumption of the location (again, two different locations listed on her website), I looked into flights, buses, or any kind of transportation to get me there. At that point, it would be impossible to travel from where I was in Thailand to make it there in time for my purported visit. I had already researched this weeks earlier — but had I received confirmation of my booking after I sent my deposit, plus clarification of the location, or any communication at all, I could have planned everything in advance so that I could get to the sanctuary in time. I simply could not preemptively make plans and invest even more money in travel/logistics under an assumption without any confirmation, acknowledgment, or communication about my booking. Katherine finally replied a few days before the date, giving me the excuse that she was without Wifi — but, throughout these 3 weeks, she was posting multiple times a day, every day, on social media. In 2023, claiming that you have no access to internet or your laptop, all while posting every day on social media, is not only an invalid excuse but completely dishonest. I understand that the elephants come first, but by opening up her sanctuary to visitors and charging them money, Katherine is also running a business, which requires a reasonable standard of communication, organization, and consideration for paying visitors. This is not a trivial amount of money, and a trip across the world to Thailand is not an everyday occurrence. I patiently waited throughout all of this, and because it would now be impossible to get to the sanctuary in time, I asked to be refunded. She replied she was sad to not have me but completely ignored my request for a refund. After one more attempt to request a refund, it’s now been another two weeks with no response. Meanwhile, daily social media posts continue. I urge everyone to seriously consider if all of this headache and risk is worth it. I hate that I’m in a position to write such a review — I had such a positive impression of BLES, but this has completely ruined that. Do not ignore the other reviews which prove this has happened repeatedly — Katherine will take your money and run with it, all while claiming to do God’s work.

Friend and I booked a stay on our 1st trip to Thailand. You need to book in advance you cannot show up unannounced. The owner, her family, and all staff are a joy to be around. Kathrine is passionate in what she does, educated in the care of all animals at BLES, and has created a truly magical place. If you're looking for an educational humbling experience while witnessing elephants in their natural state this is the place to go. Not to mention all the amazing vegan food! Highly recommend and hope to be back in the future.

We visited for 3 days with our 3 children (booked several months in advance) and as the kids describe it, it was, "Epic...Ten stars...Awesome!" It was truly an immersive experience, learning about elephants, mahouts, Thai culture and the community. Katherine and her family were so welcoming, as were all the staff at BLES. The food was the some of best vegetarian/vegan food we have had! All our needs were taken care of, and we felt like part of the family. We cannot put into words how enriching the experience was for all of us. Spending time with the beautiful elephants was a very special experience we won't forget. We recommend this to anyone interested in learning more about elephants and seeing them in a safe environment. We hope to be back again!

Our visit to Boon Lotts elephant sanctuary was magical. Katherine was awesome in sharing her stories with us. We were able to witness the different personalities of the elephants. I was particularly impressed by the Gossip Girls and the antics of Mare Lardee. I shall treasure my memories of my visit to BLES forever. Thank you Katherine and Darling.

This is the best caring place for elephants in Thailand. Elephants are cared for according to their uniqueness needs. Their mahouts are very caring, loving and knowledgeable people. They’re free to roam all day abre are fed delicious fruits 🥰

My husband and I had the best experience at BLES with Katherine and her family. We felt completely at home. It was obvious how passionate everyone at BLES is about elephant welfare. We loved learning from Katherine and the mahouts and observing the elephants being elephants. Couldn't recommend enough! Coming to BLES was the highlight of our trip to Thailand.

My husband and I just visited Boon Lott's Elephant Sanctuary as part of our honeymoon. We spent 3 nights and 3 days here. It was absolutely AMAZING! The experience to be so close to such big, gorgeous, intelligent creatures was so inspiring. Also, everyone at BLES is SO INCREDIBLY KIND. Note that in general the activities here are a bit physically active. We went on long hikes and it was a bit physically taxing. Though, if you ever did not want to do an activity there was always an option to not participate but honestly they were the best part. The food here was INCREDIBLE. At the sanctuary it is all vegan food. It was probably the best food I have had in thailand. Getting a reservation here was not that hard, really you just need to email Katherine early (we did ours a year in advance) and don't expect a reply right away. There is NO internet access at the sanctuary and most phone carrier signal does not work, so she has to travel to a different place to send emails etc. After you made your reservation you let her know when you are arriving (the sukhothai airport is where we arrived) and she will send someone to pick you up. They keep the groups very small here, up to 6. We had 4 people (my husband and me and another great couple). We had so much fun being with these people. It is a great place to meet like minded people from around the world.

It’s a historical site next to a hotel and a big area of farmland which is quite easily accessible by walk or bike. The name literally means a temple surrounded by elephants (Wat means temple and Chang means elephant). Some of the elephant sculpture got renovated to show the previous look. Highly recommend to visit with a bike (or by a bike tour)

Very impressive Wat nevertheless some of the elephants have been rebuild. This helps imagine how this beautiful temple has looked like. Great stop when you drive to new Sukhothai by bike.

Passed this elephant temple while cycling. There were no other tourists, and there’s no entrance fee either. Nice to see, and take a few photo’s.

Magnificent.Worth for visiting, not far from Sukhothai Historical Park if you have bicycles or car. The temple have not much tourists , you can take times to enjoy the scenery around.It has 39 elephants statue around the base of the pagoda.

The temple consists of the main pagoda in circular bell shape with 32 elephant statues around its base, a vihara to enshrine a Buddha image which is now in ruins, the ordination hall, surrounded by water in accordance with the concept of Udaka Sima, subordinate chedi and a boundary wall to enclose the whole temple.

Big and beautiful 14th century stupa with intact harmika and umbrella spire having huge elephants as guardians of the base.Prayer hall is in the ruins state with nothing much left now.

The small ruin of the Wat Sa Si is beautifully situated in the midst of Traphang-Trakuan lake. The temple has a Lanka styled stupa, with the vihara of Wat Sa Si situated on the east side of the stupa. On a small peninsula east of the temple ruins lie the foundations of an ordination hall.

Peaceful temple complex in the middle of the reservoir Island.The stupa is very big with bell shaped towers which appears to be the influence of Sri Lanka or Indonesia. The bhumi sparsha buddha in deep meditative state with closed eyes is impressive among the ruins of pillared prayer hall.There's small walking buddha in the garden which is excellent to take a selfie with him.

The Wat Sa Si temple inside Sukhothai Historical Park were you can rent a bike, go on an open bus, golf cart or just walk on your own. And specially in Loi Krathong and Candle Festival is a must.

My personal favourite of all the Wat that I visited in Thailand. Taking a stroll on the path around the Wat was pleasantly cooling on the 38 Celsius day that we went.

The great monument of the ancient kingdom. The scenery at the sunset is so wonderful. I personally believe that it is better to walk around the historical park than riding a bicylce so that one can thoroughly view the scenery of the architecture and nature surrounding it.

The monument is in the Sukothai Historic Park. You are free to wander among these ancient ruins with spectacular Buddha statues everywhere. Uncrowded, serene with water filled moats and wonderful ambience. A place to relax, absorb history and amble out cycle around for a full day. Quite extraordinary and personal.

Not for me to describe as I am not familiar with the history. This is a great place to visit and take a peep into the past of Thailand.

From all temples within the western part of the historic park this is the nicest one to see. Furthermore you have a great view in the direction of old Sukhothai.

Sitting on top of a hill, this place offers a great view. Especially at sunrise. (My phone camera doesn't do it justice, so no photos) So, if you're in Sukhothai, get up early and head out here!

Great little temple on a hill , to be found in the western zone . Ideal for sunrise time as the sun lights up the east facing statue .

Wat Saphan Hin is a FREE visit area in most west zone out of Sukhothai Historical Park. You need to wake up early if you want to enjoys the view of sunrise (prefer start depart at 5.30pm) because this temple built on the hills approximately 50m high. At here you can feel the peaceful and quiet atmosphere, is a place that suitable to calms and ponder.

A nice, short but fun hike up a granite walkway to a giant standing Buddha statue and one of the best views of the Sukothai valley (including the Historical Park (only a few of the taller buildings visible over the trees). For me, this was the most interesting temple in the Aryanik (forest dwelling) region of Sukothai.

Advice: Woke up 5:30, took a Grab taxi and rented a small golf cart around 6:30 when the park open. You have the bear in mind that we visited in May when the temperatures arrive to 39 degrees so I recommend to visit soon and with a vehicle to don’t loose time while the temperature is raising. We drove for 2h and visit all center, north and East.

Built around 15th century,stupa or chedi is beautiful with unique bell shaped dome and impressive elephants as guardians on the base.The prayer hall is in the ruins state and location is peaceful surrounded by green park and the lake which is perfect for photography.

Small historic ruin. A chedi surrounded with elephants. Pretty good preserved in comparison with other chedi. You can visit this one for free. It's just off the main road in old Sukhothai. If your in the area definitely stop by and check it out.

Small temple ruins but beautiful

Spending time in a national museum here was a bless for me. Many artifacts and knowledge that I could learn from this place. Also, they have the ac on, and free water to refill with Jasmine flowers where I did put on my water bottle which made it enjoyable to drink in a hot day

This museum is great, thailand doesn’t have a lot of proper museums so this was a nice visit! Small but there is a lot to see there. If you enjoy museums and history then definitely check it out

There are many interesting artefacts on display, complementing the ancient sites. I also found the diorama explanation of Buddhist architecture very helpful, unfortunately after I had already visited many of the sites in and around Sukhothai! Explanations could be improved with more detailed notes explaining the importance of each item. Unfortunately, some of the notes were only in Thai.

Only if you have time left, this is the last visit for Sukhothai. Very traditional Musuem.

So happy with my decision to enter and check out the antiquities of ancient times here. Great collection, enough to introduce you to the Sukhothai period. As a foreigner who studied Thai language for a year, I personally love the section of the origin of Thai alphabet.

One of the two main temples to see in the North Zone of the Sukhothai Historical Park heritage site. Located slightly outside the North Gate of the ancient wall city, it was at the heart of the busy North Gate traffic and trade. Only one of the 3 prangs in the Khmer style remain, and this is one of only 3 temples in the entire complex that show Angkor - LopBuri influences. You will need a ticket to enter the North Zone - 100 thb - this ticket is separate from the similar one for the Central Zone.

A stunning ancient temple complex outside of the main historical park in Sukhothai. Easy to access via car, bike or a Tuk Tuk ride. Definitely worth the trip to explore this beautiful ruins site.

Nice complex, same ticket than Wat Si Chum, although I must admit I believe that 100THB/person just for those 2 places is a bit too expensive (come with a family and you see it adds up quite fast...). Man at the entrance where they checked the ticket tried to keep ours, we refused as the ticket is valid for the whole day and not just for 1 time. He didn't seem happy about it...

Another nice Wat in the north part of the park. Unfortunately quite destroyed. Nevertheless a good stop by when you are doing a big tour around the historical park. Don‘t even think about walking the whole way from city center:)

This is lean and tall lotus stupa which is unique from the sukhotai kingdom.The prayer hall is in ruins but bhumi sparsha buddha touching the earth for support against tempting mara is relevant to the modern generation also.The long wisdom ears,ringed hair style and facial features gives an idea of people who lived here around 14th century.There's another beautiful walking buddha in the complex which is immortal with the message of follow the steps to escape the sorrow of life is excellent.

Although Wat Tra Phang Ngoen is not the most well-known or nicest-looking site, its architecture is a wonder, with a mix of Sukhothai's lotus base stupas and Khmer influence. The temple is situated next to a pond, which attracts storks. This is a quiet place and certainly one of the most underrated parts of the historical park.

It's unusual to see such a large temple outside the city walls. There are two impressive Buddha statues, one (facing East) walking, the other (facing West) standing.

Wat Chetuphon is the largest temple outside the city walls and south of Namo gate 2 kilometers. The temple is famous for its four Buddha images of vast size in four different postures (sitting, reclining, standing and walking). It is not known when the temple was founded. A stone inscription found at the Wat Chetuphon does not mention its founding date. It does mention that in 1514 a Buddha image was constructed to be enshrined in the temple. The Wat Chetuphon is believed to have been an important temple in the late Sukhothai period. The temple is mentioned in the stone inscription discovered at the Wat Sorasak, which describes an event that took place in the middle of the 15th century when monks of several temples including those of the Wat Chetuphon discussed the founding of another temple in Sukhothai.

The temple is in ruins but it is very peaceful and quiet. It is a little far from the principal zone of temples but it deserves a visit. It is better if you have a motorbike. It is free to get there.

The museum provides a good introduction to art and symbology of sukhothai and the surrounding regions. The collection may be small but it does offer a condensed history lesson. The front desk offers a self guided booklet free of charge.
