Visiting there gave us an opportunity to make a close encounter with the genius mind of Leonardo da Vinci. The spent his final days here. These is a display of his artwork and scientific understanding. The Chateau is an architectural marvel by itself and the garden is huge.

A must do when in the area especially if you have kids. We took the guided tour and it was excellent as the guide showed us details that we wouldn’t have noticed without him and of course he told us many nice to know stories about Da Vinci and his work. We then stayed at the garden and the kids got to see and play with a representation of some of Da Vinci’s work. I would recommend checking the guided tour timing to plan your visit accordingly. The Clos de Lucé castle is close to Chenonceau and we visited both castles on the same day.

Very informative. Parking is plentiful some free parking. For entrance you pay in two tiers garden or with garden house and gallery. The other interactive gallery is fantastic. Hit or Miss, definely hit. As a plus nice cafes food places in area nearby.

When making a visit to Amboise and liking the vibrant atmosphere in the centre, we decided to walk around and go till the last place Leonardo da Vinci lived. It is a nice stroll through a quiet, nice street from the centre. I loved the place and how it has been organized. Even with big groups of school children inside and outside, we be er had the feeling we never had the feeling that it got in the way if our visit. The building and garden are beautiful and very interesting to walk through, see the rooms and ideas, tools, inventions Leonardo da Vinci made. The big garden has his ideas turned into big, real tools too. It was great, beautiful and interesting. I loved the place.

It's at this Chateau where Leonardo DaVinci lives out his remaining days and eventually died here. He was invited to live here to continue his research by King Francis I. It is a great opportunity to walk through the Chateau along the same halls and into the same rooms that he lived and worked in.

The owners have done an excellent job bringing the ideas of da Vinci to life here! This historic chateau was his final dwelling. His living quarters and Studio are displayed along with an intriguing display of his inventions. A really interesting museum and park!

An absolute must see!!. Wonderful inside and out. Some very interesting Leonardo pieces to see and so well presented. Even the pleasant gardens have large models of some of the great man's marvellous inventions, which brings the whole thing to life for young and old alike. Do try to avoid visiting at the same time as school parties, of which there were several the day we visited. They tend to be quite noisy and EVERYWHERE, making actually looking and taking it all in quite a challenge. Perhaps late aftenoon? We went mid-morning. Nonetheless, I would thoroughly recommend going.

Where Leonardo da Vinci finished his life under the protection of Francois Ier. Worth the visit. You can see many models of Leonardo’s inventions. It is stunning how this man was a visionary in many areas ranging from science to art. You can spend a whole day to make the full tour of this site.

I went there as a kid and loved it. I always loved old dwellings but this one in particular stayed vivid in my memory and I had to get back. I love it 😍

This is a worthwhile place to visit if you are at all interested in Leonardo Da Vinci. It was great to see where he spent his last years, see some of his rooms and personal items. They also have great information and models of his engineering drawings. The grounds are nice and there is a room with an electronic representation of his paintings, drawings, etc. The temporary exhibition showing at present on his anatomy drawings and the explanations about how he got to study the human body is well with the extra couple of euros.

Very good description of Leonardo's life during his final years. My personal highlight was the replicated study. Exhibitions about his work in architecture, technology and anatomy. And a beautiful garden. I only regret that I did not have time to spend a couple of hours there, simply reading a book in the shade of one of the trees.

An interesting day out, lots to see and do and a small Cafe on site. The gardens are amazing and worth the visit on their own.

Oh man. I loved getting lost in the vast Clos Luce. It really is a beautiful, well looked after place. It's also really big, with gardens, individual museums and installations in addition to the former residence of Leonardo da Vinci. The Clos Lucé was undoubtedly a highlight of my trip to Amboise, and I loved immersing myself in the life and work of this fascinating genius. I only have one piece of advice for non-French speakers - Google have a feature where you can take a photo and translate on the spot. While some of the material is also in English, a lot of it isn't. For people who want to soak up every written detail (and there are a lot), this could come in handy. I would have welcomed more information on the earlier life of LDV, but to be fair this is where he spent his final years.

So much more than we had expected! Starting with the chateau and seeing how de Vinci lived and worked, exploring models of his ideas.. Beautiful gardens, lovely restaurant with excellent food. The exhibition of his designs was fascinating, the room with his pictures amazing and so enlightening. Then to see the models of his work actually working in the gardens as you walk was quite incredible and to be able to operate some of them very interesting. All in all an excellent day out.

Beautiful castle with gorgeous gardens. Stunning, breathtaking views. Right at the Loire. Slightly challenging with a pram - it is on top of a rock after all. Fun for kids, plenty of space to run around. Entrance fee ok.

A fun stop with excellent views. The guided tour is decent without being too much. Your going to exercise your legs a bit getting around but I think you've come for the history and the views and you will not be disappointed. Give yourself sometime to wander about and no that you will not be able to capture the sunset for the photographers in the crew.

We got here by accident. The place was not on our list of attractions, but I am thrilled we did. Even if it was raining, the château was beautiful and it proved to be a hidden gem. Is not much when you see it from the outside, but seen in its entire splendour from the other side of the Loire, is magnificent. And the views, breathtaking! Will definitely return and I must say, their gardeners are very skilled and busy people, and they are doing an extraordinarily good job.

Beautiful Chateau, visit it early or late to avoid people, it can take 2:30 min if you like to go read the details. Once you left the chateau turn to left and walk for 10 min then you reach Clos Luce. Amboise is a nice town to walk and have something to eat.

It took me driving 6 and a half hours from Calais to this place. This is chosen as the starting point of my series of castle visit along ricer Loire. Quite a tourist attracting place , not just for the castle itself, but also for the beautiful surrounding scenaries and River Loire The arch bridge is grand and beautiful.

Huge chateau pretty cool. The staff were nice and cheery too. We thought there would be more rooms though. The gardens are nicely manicured and the chateau offers many scenic view angles. A pretty photogenic place I’d say!

Really beautiful. The ticket price includes a tablet with augmented reality, so one can enjoy the rooms of the castle as they allegedly were centuries ago. The software also provides detailed text explanations on locations and architectual elements. In summer the place is open from 9:00 to 19:00, and the landscape and gardens are just superb. The town is also old-fashined and beautiful, the esplanade underneath the castle is crowded with restaurants and souvenir shops.

Very impressive and beautifully restored Loire castle. Untill 1130 it is possible to drive your car into the old city and park right next to the castle entrance. Spectacular river views from the castle tower. The rooms are nice, nothing special though. I found the visitor tablet not very useful, you might want to read up beforehand. No coffee / drinks in the castle. Bring some small change for the toilets.

The Château Royal d'Amboise is an enchanting castle you must see while visiting the Loire Valley! The decor is impressive! The history is fascinating! Lots to see! The views of the city are beautiful from the roof top!

A perfect place for a weekend trip across the Loire! With very convinient parking and ticketing. Do plan a couple of chateaus enroute. But you would love this one with the dound of water!

Wonderful château with views over the town of Amboise and river Loire. The location and scale is stunning. The interior and gardens are very well cared for. It is a pleasure to wander around. Busy even on an October weekday. Probably crowded in summer but worth visiting. A "must visit" destination if you are in the area.

Lots of interesting history at the Château Royal d’Amboise. We had a stroll around the gardens - along in the amazing views of the river and town from the ramparts. Inside, the rooms are laid out with period furniture and decorations - very interesting to see how the château was used throughout it’s history. The ticket office is efficient and you can rent a tablet that provides lots of useful information as you walk around.

Such an overrated place. We went here after some tiktok videos and after reading Google reviews. Very expensive for seeing like 4 rooms of nothingness. You are paying for the panoramic view and the gardens. Pretty but very expensive for what it is.

Very beautiful gardens and great views of the town and property! Grab the tablet before you go in as it shows you how the rooms were decorated in their era, and it was good to see. Go up the hill or stairs to enter, we missed it, hehehe. The booklet was very informative and had some cool facts and extra information, and you don't need to do a tour.

Good day out with young children. You get to see a whole load of chateau's all in one place! Plus there are rides a small park and a bouncy castle, that children will love. It isn't tacky or run down like an English sea side miniature village. The models are of a good quality and everything is well looked after. Plenty of parking and easy to get to. Available as a joint entry ticket with the aquarium.

Spent a lovely few hours wandering around the small château with our 3 year old. He loved the castles and enjoyed the small horse ride. A nice afternoon out. It was very hot when we went but there was welcome shade and benches as we wandered around.

Over 40 incredible models of castles & fortresses, compete with tiny figurines. The buildings are actually fairly large ; don't let the "mini" moniker mislead you! You might find it a bit boring if you're not into history, castles, architecture, and craftsmanship of models, but otherwise, it's worth the detour, and the small price of admission.

Really impressive how realistic these models are. I would actually recommend coming here before touring the Val de Loire, see which châteaux you are interested in, then plan your tour of the real Loire. Yes, they are that life-like!

Lovely place and incredibly well done but it wasn't really suitable for our 2 year olds. Best bit for them was the room with the giant building blocks in abundance where we could build our own château!

Great, lots of activities for kids like two small rides and a jumping castle. I also would say as an adult if you don't have so many days to visit the Loire Valley, it is a great place to see and read about all the castles in one shot.

For a model park it is very good. The castles and gardens are lovely. It just lacks better play facilites for the kids we would have stayed longer but there just wasnt enough we were done in 90 mins.

Small provincial rural residence with nice gardens. This little château offers less than other Amboise's castles, but should you have some time left after visiting the Château Royal d'Amboise and Château du Clos Lucé, make your walk over here. It is still a nice and refreshing experience.

Somewhat of a hidden gem, but it's definitely worth a visit. It has undergone major restoration works in recent years, having been in a very dilapidated state, and it has all been done very sympathetically. Lovely gardens with lots of interesting features but not so huge it becomes a challenge. The interior feels as if someone actually lives there, which is quite unusual with these chateau. The only slight negative was paying €12 for a glass of citrus juice. Ouch!!

It was a pity that due to restrictions,the chateau was not allowed to enter, but the garden supervised me in a good way with different kinds of trees and their products. The real situation was slightly different than the map but it was still charming. Ps. The dog of the gardener was extremely cute:)

Having read the reviews we thought we would come and visit the Chateau, we understood that it would not be as large as others we had visited but the reviews said that it was well worth a visit so we set off. The first thing we came across was that parking was not free but a pay at the meter public car park but having got that far we though ok so we have to pay not a big deal. We walked up to the Chateau and payed our entrance fee the gentleman on the reception was very nice and explained in English where everything was and recomended we visit the tables on the terrace and have a drink and something to eat, this was a huge disappointment we chose the set menu at 25Euros each for a glass of orange, a tuna salad (which was actually not salad but a pot of beans and pulses with tinned tuna on the top) followed by a piece of orange cake and we paid an extra 5 Euros for a coffee (only Black Coffee they do not have any milk). The cake did not taste of oranges not even a hint of orange which was very disappointing. We sat at the table for 30 minutes before the lady brought over the cake and coffee when we asked about our orange juice and salad she appologised and said she had forgotten we ordered them, I could have understand if there were a lot of other people eating but there was only 1 other table occupied. It took another 15 minutes for our food to arrive. The food was not made to order it was already preprepared in the fridge all she did was take the lid off. So lunch cost 60Euros for 2 of us and it was dreadful and cash only. Inside the Chateau we found the rooms not historically correct with both modern and historic furnishings all mixed together and no information boards we could see in English which would have helped to explain what we were looking at. The gardens which other visitors had said where fantastic were a few squares of grass outside the Chateau and a few beds of fruit and vegetables and a single bed of flowers. Overall we felt that it was vastly overpriced having spent nearly 100 Euros on this visit eating what could only be described as mediocore meal at best and a walk around the Chateau and gardens which were very disappointing.

It's a smaller chateau but well worth a visit. You get a more personalised sort of perspective of this chateau as it is not as grandeous

France’s first Orangerie. Try the marmalades and take some home. They’re amazing! Beautiful chateau and grounds. And the donkeys are super cute!

This place was SO cool. It's the perfect chateau to visit if you're tired of being overwhelmed by crowds of tourists. You walk down a local lane and arrive at the chateau. They give a small discount if you've visited Clos Luce. The grounds are beautiful and well-maintained. It isn't as "guarded" as the other chateaus and you get the feeling that people could still live there. . .and that's because they do! This chateau is still inhabited and the staff will chat with you about the owner and story if you ask. The oranges and citrus + gardens are not to be missed. They're real/functional and people eat the food. The little shop sells wine and honey from on-site and you should really have a slice of the orange cake. This was probably one of our favorite places in the Loire Valley.

Worth visiting, very nice restoration of the old castle. You can walk around the whole domain and go inside to see how it used to look. There is parking nearby but you can reach it on foot from the city centre as well. I found it to be a bit expensive for the experience you are given though. It costs 14 euro per person to enter.

Pretty nice place with beautiful garden, but in general without any historical value. Compared to other castles, the ticket price is too high for me, cost/benefit is minimal.

Nice and calm place to relax, have a drink and a small bite. The pagoda itself is nice to see and climb, but poorly maintained. For example the paintwork isn't faded, its has just gone entirely. The 14 hectare park sounds promising to stroll around a long time, but it is in no way accessible to the public. There is only a very short round around the pond featuring a path. All in all not worth the €10 entrance price. I'd rather make the shop and café accessible for free, and charge €5 to climb the pagoda.

A very peaceful parc, and not too crowded. The place is well maintained even the bathrooms. You can find different kinds of Chinese plants and flowers in the garden or take a boat to float in the lake. You can play the different games of Chanteloup or climb up the Pagode. At the end, don’t go without taking the picnic basket and have lunch in the beautiful garden.

The history behind the pagoda is fascinating. We had the pleasure of visiting the pagoda during a day visit in Amboise, the engineering is fantastic, the place is marvellous. We spoke with one of the caretaker and told us that the monument is privately owned, they are working hard to perform restructuring and improvement. The place needs public support and I would advise to all travellers that goes by Amboise to visit this place and support the preservation of this priceless place.

No visitors, Chinese garden a bit overgrown. I have known of its existence for over 40 years. Time has not been kind to the place but its peace and quiet is actually a welcome change in a region that sees so many tourists.

A place where my heart belongs. I love this place more than almost any place in the whole wide world. If you are in France then you must visit this place. A paradise of peace and beauty.

A beautiful oasis of peace. We came here on a whim, it was a lovely, calm day. Plenty of space for children to run around, nice little cafe and garden with plenty of shade to sit and chat over ice cream and drinks. We sat looking at the pagoda and talking for several hours in perfect tranquillity, listening to the birdsong. The pagoda provides a lovely view and breeze and a nice climb! I recommend it. Thank you to the owners for maintaining the grounds and pagoda and providing such a pleasant and peaceful place to spend a summer’s day. It is much appreciated.

Interesting 18th century folly, allocated remains of a once grand chateau. Impressive views from the top. A selection of games from bygone eras are available to play at no extra cost.

A long walk out of town worth the effort for tarte taking inn the cafe and stiff climb up seven stories of ever steeper spiral staircases

This is really relaxing place. It is beautiful, peaceful, and the staff are really friendly and helpful.

The padoga feels like a lost place. It definitely needs a renovation. The view was not as great as I would have expected. The small Chinese garden was nice. The restaurant looked lovely. The staff was friendly. With the pagoda in need of renovation the price of 11 euros is too high. But I would appreciate it much if they use it to renovate it as they say.

Nice panorama, great views, good historical movie, fun historical games. But desperitly needs a carpenter and a painter! Such a waste to let it get this far.

I am going to preface this slightly harsh review with some context-- I had visited 4 other caves in the prior week and had those experiences in mind. I was underwhelmed with Caves Duhards. The tour guide dropped us off with a Duhards rep whose name I didn't catch. In fact, I didn't even know the name of the caves until I got home as there were 2 names. Parts of the cave were unique and engaging-- the smelling barrels, the talk & the beginning and the actual tasting. I wanted to give it 5 stars based on the smelling activity and the tasting alone & in a vacuum I would have. I learned SO much from those experiences. However, there was a chunk in the middle were there was no guide and a video & it was not great. The caves were outfitted like a museum but dark so without a guide we had to read by flashlight if interested (most people skipped it) and those of us who stopped to read missed the video that tge rest saw. So, I walked away learning very little about the history of the caves, the wine they specifically make, if they even do make it anymore all while feeling very rushed. So, as compared to the 4 other wine caves we visited I found this one to be far less personal (more commercialized), and sadly, none of the wines really stood out to me.

We absolutely loved this place! Staff was extremely friendly and hospitable. Wine was exceptional! We bought 6 bottles to take with us as a souvenir from the trip. Food was good too. Immense thanks to the whole team of the restaurant and the cave! P.S. They also have wine tasting classes/tours, we didn’t attend it but I’m sure it’s extraordinary too!

Very interesting choice of cheeses, wine, and local products. With a nice view of the Loire!

Four of us had a great experience here tasting wines and enjoying an incredible 1 meter long charcuterie board loaded with all local cheeses and greens, wine jams… It was curated salty to sweet with sheep, goat and cow cheeses. All delicious. We also enjoyed incredible breads, and a smaller local meat tray and a serving of escargot. The recommended accompanying wines were paired perfectly. The staff was very professional and kindly compensated for our poor French with their superb English. The setting is charming, the caves full of aging wines and there are several different event rooms to explore. We had an overall great experience here. Highly recommend.

Wines are obviously amazing in this region. The mixed board we got with our tasting was simply superb. I loved touring the caves for some good natural “AC”.

We stopped in to Caves Ambacia by chance, on our way into Amboise and I am so glad we did. The staff, particularly the owner, were warm and welcoming. We shared a meat and cheese tray with a glass of wine, as we had planned, however the wine was so good we had a second. We sat outside and the view was beautiful. The perfect addition to our itinerary through the Loire Valley. Our only regret was that we didn't have time for more wine tasting!

Had an interesting experience with the smelling of the different flavours in the wines. Yannis was great in explaining where the wines are from and how they derive their names and how to identify the different wines. They also now have an eatery where you could order lunch and savour more wine if you want to. The food platter is a good way to try different foods! Also interesting point, the smelling place has braille, helpful for the partially impaired.

Nice winery! You will be sniffing your way from wine to lunch! Once you're done, your sense of smell will be heightened to a higher state of consciousness! Yes, there's wine tasting if you're wondering hehe.

A nice stop, however to get a good tasting it is suggested you take the tour. This offered a tasting of 7 wines. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. After our tasting we visited their new bistro for a charcuterie board and wine. It was very good. I would highly recommend this stop. Easy to work with to get wines shipped as well.

This place is a beautiful gem to visit for anyone who enjoys wine and would like to learn a little bit more about it. Great tasting of 6 wines, paired with local cheeses and meats. Definitely plan to have lunch at this place - the ambiance is wonderful and so is the food!

We walked here from town and were super excited to show up. The place looked awesome but found out it was closed to the public due to it being Monday. Super bummed but the gentleman working said we could go check out the cellars. Very neat but sad to not be able to drink wine on the beautiful and neat property. So we wandered back in and asked if we could purchase a bottle of wine to drink in the outside space overlooking the Loire. The guy was so nice and kind and set us up with a tasting and then we bought a couple bottles of wine and really had a lovely time that was by the grace of a human on what should have been his day to not deal with guests. Cheers to the wine. Cheers to the venue but three cheers for the gentleman who made our day awesome by being kind.

American Review 🇺🇲 - Whoever didn't give this place 5 stars is just plain wrong. The tour was AMAZING. The fact that the owner took time out of his day to personally do the first part of the tour made the experience feel very personable. He truly believes wine making is an art and strives to do it as naturally as possible. I was amazed at how they grow and treat their wines. The wine tasting at the end of the tour was beyond professional as well. It went a little over my head, but the gentleman performing the tasting answered all questions with kindness and patience. Overall, I felt very fancy and really enjoyed the experience. I didn't get to try the bistro, but if I ever end up in the area again, I will! Definitely sign up for the tour! You won't regret it!

This winery gets 5 stars across the board. Great wine, food, and service. You're sure to find a wine to suit any palate at this winery as they have a variety of options available that were produced in and around the region. The cafe provides a nice selection of food options that reminded me of farm-to-table in a relaxing and inviting setting. Lastly, I can't say enough great things about the staff. They made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived. And, they went above and beyond dropping us back off at our hotel so we wouldn't have to wait an hour for a taxi. I'd recommend adding this winery as one of your stops if you're in the area!

Great tour and great guide. Available in English and Spanish. Very nice tasting and good induction to the wines of the Loire Valley. Literally a must do for anyone who want to discover the wines of the region.

We visited for a drink on a lovely, warm afternoon. The terrace was comfy and spacious. The gentleman who served us was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the wine and the region (even though his origin was not French as far as I remember which is all the more impressive!). Excellent English too so it was a pleasure to have a chat. We had lovely wines and explored the venue a bit which was very interesting. Lovely place.

My family and I had a lovely experience here today. We walked around the cellars and were given a tasting by the son of the owner of the vineyard. The wine is deliciously and is priced incredibly well. We bought several bottles of wine. Would definitely recommend this place! Thank you very much for having us.

10 hhstars for one of the most gracious owners of any winery i have ever been to. He said he is the son and 23rd generation n still family owned. The chardonnay du pin was very good. Double gold. We purchased a few bottles. He let us walk into his big cave cellar. The oldest winery in the region. Pleasent stop with lots of wine to sample.

Great experience, we did the tour of the wine caves and their wine process with their assistant winemaker, who spoke good English as well :) Some lovely wines and a really good experience all over.

We drank a wonderful rosé wine 'In Situ' at dinner in Amboise, and were delighted to see how close the cave was. So visited on our way home, to buy wine and have a tasting. The Heritage pétillant was superb; recommended. Very nice people. Do visit ... you won't regret it!

The wine is nice and reasonably priced but unfortunately the youngish lady who served us made us feel awkward and unwelcome She wasn't interested and barely smiled and wandered off to answer the phone with out even an excuse me. We had intended to buy a bigger quantity but not on her watch! Luckily there are plenty of much nicer vineyards to visit.

Excellent place to visit and to learn more about the beautiful and traditional production process of the Loire wines. Lovely vineyard with authentic caves. Enjoyed the walk which has been set out through their vineyards (approx 3 km), the one on one tour thru the caves and lovely wine tasting. Don’t miss this spot when visiting the Loire Valley!

Not particularly helpful I'm afraid. Member of staff seemed irritated by a question that was asked.

Staff were reluctant to organise a taxi and insisted we try and call the taxi cabs even though the phone menu was in French. Eventually they helped but only after we tried 5 different companies without success. There are no taxi stands in the area so I think the staff here could be more helpful from the start.

Someone was available to assist us in English. They also helped call the local taxi service and translate for us.

Our train was delayed, which caused us to miss meeting up at the tourism office for our all-day tour. The kind lady at the tourism office went out of her way to contact the tour operator and arrange for us to meet her at the next stop. She also called taxi companies for us to help accommodate our aging mother's needs. She was very kind, helpful, and professional. My correspondence with the office prior was responded to promptly and courageously as well.

Nice people, but the local attractions have made it very hard to decipher what passes, etc. you should buy as a tourist. We ended up buying a package and determining afterwards that we should have bought individual venue tickets based on what we could do during our 3 day stay in the Loire Valley area.

Feeling like stupid tourists, when our camping can got locked in with no way out, you arranged for local police to remove height restriction setting us free, even asking for confirmation we got out.

I have Never seen so high parking costs in a city. 2h 3€ are acceptable but 2h15min 17€ and 2h30min 35€ are outrageous. This is piraterie and i will never Visite Amboise again. Shame on you !!!!

Extremely helpful staff. Anyone visiting Amboise or the area should first visit here and get maps, info about tours all sorted as it will immensely help. They also have a left luggage service (€2) which worked well for us and open till anout 6pm on week days.
