Loved it. We saw waves up to 8 metres high which was still so impressive to just sit on the cliff and watch the surfers. AMAZING!

Very touristy, but worth seeing. There are so many attractions around! Viewing points, walking trails, tram lift, little chapel, light house, and of course beach and sea, with plenty of water sports!

This is a magnificent beach. The waves are strong and beautiful, the beach is clean of litter and there is a coast guard watching over the beach goers. The air is fresh and we can do yoga, jogging and exercises there besides hanging out with family and friends. Sunsets are beautiful and on a clear night, you can see the stars and moon in stunning clarity. Along the beach you will see seafood being dried and sold. It’s truly unique.

Beautiful wide, sandy beach with astonishing views. Perfect place to chill, get a nap or just to enjoy your holidays. The water is kinda cold, so don't expect spending a lot of time in the water. Getting a ball to play football or volleyball is a must!

It's a great experience to swim here. Constant waves, which are not small and can easily knock you over if you're not careful. It's a large beach, but the lifeguards constantly supervise and immediately warn you if you go too far. The sand is deep, making it difficult to walk, and it's also hot and prickly to walk barefoot. The restroom is very far from the shore.

Beautiful and the largest waves in the world! Also, there were many seafood restaurants. I visited there winter time (late Feb) and it was not busy.

Large, open, clean beach full of people and everything you'd really need. As a big tourist place, it has a myriad of stores, restaurants, doughnuts and much more. Due to COVID, showers are out of order and if you're camping near, or on the beach, better find somewhere to maintain hygiene.

Stunning view from the ocean right ate the arrival and an even more glorious beach when you get there. Traffic may be a little chaotic on summer but definitely worth it.

Although you can find the big waves on the other side of the fortress, the waves here can still be impressive on stormy days. The beach is huge, which is useful when the crowds of people come during the summer days. The adjacent boulevard with fish racks and perpendicular street of Nazaré are wonderful places to stroll through. I love to climb higher up the hill and see the small streets merge with the sea down below.

Being undoubtedly the busiest beach on the west coast, Nazareth is one of the most traditional fishing villages, where some women dressed in the traditional seven skirts costume can still be found, taking care of the dry -dry fish, aligned on piles. The beach, completely integrated into the urban area and surrounded by the Marginal houses, retains the traditional canvas tents with strong colours stripes. Bathed by a normally brave sea with strong ripple, it is ideal for surfing and bodyboarding.

We visited on a cold and wet January, but the village still has charm. An excellent beach and a multitude of restaurants - albeit of varying quality. Without a doubt, the waves are spectacular, and a walk to the lighthouse is worth the effort.

An amazing beach in Portugal, possibly one of the best sites in Europe to watch a sunset. All services are available, during summertime. It does get crowded, however there's plenty of space available. Dedicated space for sports such as football and volleyball. Highly recommended.

We’ve just had a fabulous dining experience in this cozy restaurant. The monkfish rice we ordered exceeded our expectations: the portion turned out to be huge and cooked fully from scratch. The dish was so delicious - and certainly worth the time and money - that we even asked to take the rest away. Needless to say, the staff was helpful, friendly and attentive.

What a find! After a long drive from the upper Douro we found Sitio dos Petiscos on a cool windy Sunday evening in September when every other restaurant in the upper town seemed to be closed. So glad that we did. It was almost full, but the staff were so friendly and helpful and found us a table, and we took their recommended choice from the menu, the seafood rice. It was superb. I don't think that I have ever tasted a better seafood dish. Intense flavours, steaming hot when it arrived and full of wonderful things. The generous pan contained almost more than we could eat. We went back for lunch next day and the grilled fish was equally impressive and thoroughly enjoyed. A restaurant not to be missed. Very highly recommended.

Awesome place to visit. If you know this place you will know it's an iconic viewing area for surfing and watching the Big waves. Don't be surprised if it's busy during peak times. The small town at the top offers plenty to drink and eat and local shops. It's about 500m downhill to the viewing point. The walk down and up is worth it especially at sunset. If you have trouble walking there is an electric vehicle that you can catch a ride in for 2-3 euros. If you walk to the right you will see a slope that takes you further down to the beach and waves. Take care doing this. If you walk to the other side the view is amazing but this is cliff edges so children and dogs should be kept close. At the very end is the lighthouse and to enter will cost you 3 euros. You don't have to do this if you don't want too. If your in the area this is a must visit. I would highly recommend

This was probably one of the highlights of visiting Portugal. I grew up in Hawaii so surfing is a huge part of my life. The walk down to the fort is beautiful. And then just being at the tip and looking over the ocean is definitely worth the walk and the two or three euros it cost to go in.

Fantastic place to watch the big waves. Bit of a steep plod down but you can get transported back up very cheaply. Some interesting surfing exhibits too.

The top of the fort has a spectacular view of the sea, inside is the museum dedicated to surfing, were there is also a model, exposition and multimedia sistem, witch demonstrates the formation of the famous waves that reach over 30meters in height. Entrance to the fort upon payment of 1euro. There is no toilet. Access to the fort is by foot or (paying) by TUCTUC, by a road whith some inclination and deteriorated pavement, due to proximity of the sea. I recommend wearing comfortable shoes.

Interesting spot for everyone who likes surfing or is interesting in surfing history. In the fort you can find the museum, which you can enter for 1€, which is really fun and as a bonus you can take a picture with the iconic lighthouse. Great visit! Was a bit cloudy, but still worth the walk!

Loved this place! Amazing views! I strongly suggest visiting at sunset. Entrance is only 2€ and you get to see the museum with all the surfs of people who surfed the big waves in Nazare. There are also small shuttle cars if you are unable to walk longer distance. But otherwise it is 5 min walk. I wish I could visit this place when the big waves hit.

The view from the lighthouse is remarkable. Get there early to be able to get photos without a ton of other people being around. We walked from the beach to the lighthouse in about 30 minutes and arrived at the top just after 9 and we're done if the first people there. The little museum opens at 10 and costs 2 euro. It's a neat little museum and offers the best photo opportunities from the lighthouse.

One of Europes or Portugals most visited sites to surf! The waves are incredibly huge! Amazing place to visit and I’d highly recommend visiting the town of Nazaré. Try coming here for a sunset.

A must see place, even when not the stormy season. I would love to come and see the huge waves one day. Exhibition is great and week with the €1 entry. Beach North is quiet with clean water and great for swimming and surfing.

Loved visiting the lighthouse and seeing all the incredible facts about the Nazarene waters. One really cool addition was the exhibit created by Leo Domingos that captured the rawness and playfulness of the North Beach. Highly recommend checking it out and picking up the post cards with incredible pictures on them as souvenirs!

The steep walk from Old Town Nazarė to the fort is absolutely worth it. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes! The fort itself is perched on a peninsular outcrop of rocks and offers sweeping views of the roaring waves as they pound the rocks below. The fort has been turned into a museum with historical photos of the massive waves surfers have ridden (and continue to do so). Surfboards and information about the brave men and women who seek the thrill of "the big one" are displayed as well. This is a visit I will never forget, it's absolutely epic!

It was amazing to watch the large waves. I hope one day I can return to watch even bigger waves. Outside the building you can see the waves for free. During my visit I did not go into the Fort. It’s a bit of a down hill walk to get to this Fort, but really worth the views and adventure.

Best place to see the surf and hike down to the beach. It is 2euro to enter the surf museum if you want to go up to the actual light but the most impressive views are from the outside. There are also places to park for free so it is an inexpensive outing if you prefer.

This place is really amazing and beautiful. The only thing I didn't like was the way they closed the road purposely about 1 kilometer away from the lighthouse in order to make tourist used their paid tuck tuck rides, they should open the road for all people, instead of creating schemes.

It is €2 to enter and it was a very interesting exhibit. It has surfboards and short bios about the many surfers of Nazare, and it explains how the waves reach their famously tall heights.

Definitely a sight to visit! Beautiful tile decorations inside, wooden statues and lots of small details. If you pay 1 euro, you will be able to go behind the altar and see more blue tiles and have a great view of the church! I was told that years ago sailors came to this church to receive a blessing for their long journeys. This marvelous church is very interesting to visit!

This Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazare is a very beautiful church. During my visit they had a celebration and the church and the surrounding area was a bit crowded. The church inside is very beautiful a lot of designs. If you want to enter to sacristy they charge you €1, is worth it.

Even though not a massive building, the sanctuary has preserved most of it's antique interior, offering a rich story of local history and religion. The place has a special meaning to the town of Nazaré, and thus the sanctuary is viewed as one of the important religious centers of Portugal.

Fantastic spot to look at the ocean. If you go down on the right side of the cliff there will be an endless ocean shore(~20km) good for walking. On the left side is a town and Port.

One of the surprise viewpoints that I discovered during my Portugal trip. You can either walk up the stairs or take a trolley to go up. The trolley is very cheap, 2 euro per person one way. The view of the atlantic ocean on one side and the beautiful city of Nazare on the other side, with the white houses and orange tile roofs on them, I absolutely loved it!

The world's biggest waves happen right here on this spot. It was a calm day when we visited, and it would have been awesome to experience this. They say the waves can reach 100 feet!

Easy walk down to the fort which contains a large surf board collection. Took tuk tuk at 2 euros back up as quite a climb.

Crazy busy on the weekend in July. It took 1 hour in the queue to go up the hill 😭. The ride itself was only a few minutes long. One way ride is 2.50 per adult and 2 per child. The view is amazing however the long queue is not worth it. Also they don't accept multibanco so take cash.

Overpriced to say the least. Considering that we are 3 people and our hotel is in the Sítio, we need to use it basically every day and paying €2,50 per ride or €4 for round trip each, for something that would take just 5 minutes with the staircase going down to the city, just 100 meters away, is not worth it. And they should have more like a “family offer” or something to be more convenient. In my opinion it’s worth it only when going up from the beach area, or if you’re really tired

Lovely seaside town with huge beach! Typical tourist shops and eateries but delve in and explore and you can find really genuine traditional Portuguese restaurants, local markets and little craft shops. If you don't have a car and aren't up for the steep hike up to the top of the cliffs, you can take the funicular train up. Totally worth it as the views are stunning and the square is lovely. A 10 min walk to the light house offers spectacular views of some of the biggest waves in the world!

5 euros gets you some of the best views and perfect picture taking. Nazare is beautiful and taking this ride to the top is much easier than walking!

Located in a small fishing town which is now become a world famous site for surfing. Praia do Norte is a 1.5 Km long expanse of golden sand backed by sand dunes. Absolutely stunning, we enjoyed walking along the beach and also from view from the lighthouse. In 2011 the beach hit the headlines when American surfer Garrett McNamara surfed a record-breaking 24 metre wave here. Praia do Norte gets some of the biggest (and most dangerous) waves in the world. Through an accident of geology there is a huge channel of deepwater offshore here pointing directly to this coast. The Nazaré Canyon is 175 kilometres long and 5 kilometres deep; it effectively funnels the Atlantic swells into the beaches of Nazaré producing massive waves, and Praia do Norte taking the brunt of this.

Visited in February 2023, sunny, 18 degrees in the air and probably 16 in the water, windy and lots of strong and scenic waves. The best ocean side, without many people, only a hand of daring surfers. Lovely to watch from the high level and from beach level.

When there are big waves, I prefer to go down to the beach since it is less crowded with visitors. On top of that, here the true size of the waves is more fathomable. Currently, there is no safe path down to the beach from the fortress. I saw most people climb down via the rock formation on the southernmost point of the beach, but this is only possible when it is low tide. Otherwise there are some unofficial paths further up the road, or you have to walk/drive all the way around

Great little chapel next to a fantastic viewing point in Nazaré. Definitely read up on the sorry if the location and memorial. With a quick visit if you're already up there for the view. It won't take you more than 5 minutes.

This place is abselutamente fantastico! After 10 min stairs climbing all 360 surroundings revealed at its best from the ocean to the forest. Very quiet and calm. There are two ways to climb: one on a trail that surrounds the mountain just before reaching the mountain and the second on rocky stairs by the parking

Beautiful watch point. The tower is closed tho. The walk up the mountain is about 15 minutes, not recommend for children or elderly as there are dangerous points along the route and on top.

For those new to the climb, a friendly local shared that there are two paths, 1 - follow the wide stone road from the bottom and stair will support your accent with scenic views on the way or 2- take the dirt track and the more challenging path through the bush. A nice market. Some stand out vendors, nice selection. Had a fish monger weigh a bunch of water with my squid lol but that's the joy of not being able to speak the language and call her out. There is a lady with great baked goods, follow the line. This lady in the photo was my fav produce stand. Her selection was very fresh and she was an absolute treasure.

The market was great. With a bit of everything and competitive prices. However more than half the mussels I bought were dead and stinking so bad. Was disappointing to get home to find this out. The prawns were amazing. The vegetables were tasty and I did enjoy the experience.
