My wife and I stop in every once in a while when we go to Bernkastel-Kues. Honestly a great deal on their wines and the ability to taste test before hand is a fine experience. We've even brought friends. Polite service everytime we've stopped by.

You can taste everything and then buy what you like. And they have more than a hundred local wines with useful info. Nothing in English, though. Anyway, I ended up buying 12 bottles and a few of them where quite special. Highly recommended!

A superb discovery where you can help yourself to taste over 100 local wines from small to large producers at your own pace for €18 (or less if you have a Bernkastel guest pass). Extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff (who very kindly spoke good English!) who were very helpful and not at all pushy to sell. You can then either buy a glass and enjoy there with a warm Pretzel, or purchase to take with you, all excellent value. A great way to introduce yourself to a wide range of Mosel wines.

Unaccommodating and inflexible staff. Came 2.5 hours before closing and wouldn’t do a tasting or serve a drink, despite the fact we were only in this region for one day told us to come back another time. Won’t be going again.

Our wry and hilariously intractable host demonstrated the Good and Proper way to taste wine in impeccably German fashion, then jotted down a few of his favorite wines before setting us free to taste on our own. It was an overwhelming amount of freedom, and my only regret is not coming earlier in the day to allow more time for tasting. We couldn't resist buying a few bottles, and they were all very reasonably priced. This is a fantastic way to give your palate a good starting map of Mosel wine, and I would happily come back for Round 2.

For context, I came here with my three young kids ages 5,3,1.5 years and mother in law. I wore the baby and the other two walked. First off - parking and walk to castle. We planned to drive as close to the castle as possible and park close if we could, otherwise would have parked in the paid lot (one euro per hour) by the river and taken the Berg shuttle, though I didn’t know how often it runs or if it was free. We took Google maps directions, and about 4 min away from our “destination” I saw signs to turn for Burg Landshut and decided to follow them. They brought us to a decent sized parking lot with tons of signs pointing towards several paths, and we found the one that pointed to Burg Landshut and followed it, almost immediately seeing the castle down a hill that took our family 5-10 minutes to climb down and up. There were in fact closer spots but not many, though even on this June Friday afternoon there were a few open. A stroller would have not been a problem, at least until getting into the castle. Once we approached the castle, we took an elevator up to the second story. There was no entrance fee of any sort at this point. From there we walked around to the opposite side where there was a main entrance into the castle from a “terrace” so to speak with great views of the river. We entered the courtyard via a short stair case (stroller would have been a problem, but I can’t say there wasn’t a more accessible ramp that I just didn’t notice) and saw the restaurant, bathrooms (which were amazingly clean and accessible) and tower. We had reservations and the food, service, view, prices and facility were AMAZING. I highly recommend eating here. The rest of the castle was beautiful but not as robust as some others we’ve seen, and the restaurant is definitely the prime purpose of a visit here, though the tower was enjoyable, if slightly difficult to get up (one part of the staircase was very narrow and steep for about 15-20 steps) and with pretty high walls that were hard to see over for my 5’0” self and my kids. The tower was an additional one euro for passage through per person (though kids can walk under the gate…) The waterfall down the road was completely worth parking near it on the way home and walking down - beautiful and peaceful. The Ferris wheel in town was also a fantastic part of the day - I think it was about 15 euros for all of us and we were on it for about 5-10 minutes and it had amazing views and was very safe with high walls/window panes. We would have gone on to Michaelsbrunnen but we’re all getting a little tired and cranky.

When thinking of German wine from outside Germany, chances are that Dr. Loosen comes to mind - and that's even before going into Riesling or the Mosel. Located just a short walk from the picture postcard Bernkastel-Kues, the newly renovated cellar door is located on the banks of the river, nestled amongst the Middle-Mosel's most prestigous vineyards. We were there for an intimate tasting of their wines, and none other than Herr Loosen himself made an impromptu appearance to our delight, and generously spent time with us answering questions and posing for selfies. Dr. Loosen are known more for their drier styles of Riesling. Many of the range are adorned bodly with GG (Grosses Gewächs - dry-style Grand Cru) on the bottles' necklines. We worked our way through their portfolio of Rieslings (with a cheeky Weissburgunder thrown in!) - visiting rockstar vineyards like Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Ürziger Würzgarten, Bernkasteler Lay to name but a few. Even with the older vintages, we were surprised how fresh and lively they were - light but complex and textural with fresh stonefruit, lemon, pear, blossom, honey, wet slate characters throughout. Many have gone through extended lees aging in old oak (without stirring) to develop a more textural and mineral backbone. A highly recommended visit when you're in the Mosel.

We had to make a reservation for the wine tasting, which cost 15 euros per person. No problem, so we made and confirmed an appointment. Upon arrival, you can check off the wines you want to taste (up to 5). However, it took a very long time for this to be taken care of, and we felt like they quickly squeezed us in at a table. Other tables received much more attention and explanation than we did. In the end, each of us had a tiny bottom of wine three and tasted it. It was definitely not worth the 15 euros. We visited the zylinderhaus in October 2022 and enjoyed our visit. We did think 15€ was maybe a little bit expensive, but you can really see that the building and general presentation standard is very high. We also enjoyed playing on some of the vintage pinball machines and air hockey. The car collection is very German biased along with the motorbikes. Otherwise the museum contains an impressive collection of old typewriters, cameras, toys and other items in little shopfront recreations. We spent about 1h30 at the museum and felt we had throughly seen everything. It kept us occupied in the morning before the sun came out to enjoy the Moselle.

Ich werde definitiv kein Kunde, da ich dieses Gut in keinerlei Hinsicht "unterstützen" möchte. Ich kann das Gut für Weinproben nicht weiterempfehlen.
