This is the highlight of the medieval town. You can enter the main building to see frescoes and the dungeon. Exit through the back to visit an old church. The best part is the climb to the top of the bell tower, which you access from the garden next to the church. At the top you get some fantastic views of the old town and surrounding countryside. You have to pay for at least 2 museums, although the cost is only €4 per person. The bonus was a visit to the house down the main street, with another tower, which has good views as well

Five stars, if only for the magnificent frescoed tabernacle by Benozzo Gozzoli in the adjoining church reached via the back courtyard. Throughout the palazzo there are various frescoes and terracotta works along with other artifacts of historical significance.

A nice palazzo to view the tower was closed for renovation when we visited though. Some good museum pieces & lovely courtyard.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit at Palazzo Pretorio. We had a guide and I highly recommend getting one. Besides the beauty of the building and its rich history, there is also a modern art show inside that you can visit too.

Authoritarian staff likes to show those pesky ignorant foreign tourists who's boss. Trying to ask the manager (probably?) how busy it is in the museum regarding the COVID circumstances is dismissed with 'Stand in line!', no please included. Very atypical exception for Tuscany as this is the only place where we met such rudeness during our stay of two weeks. In other places personel was wonderfull.

Nice and cheap (€1.30 one way, €1.50 return) ride up to charming Certaldo Alto, but with long waiting times (at least on weekends). The funicolare rides up every 10 minutes and can only carry 6 passengers due to covid restrictions. We waited 50 minutes. If you aren‘t a cable car addict or it‘s too hot, take the stairs 50m to the left, takes 7-8 minutes.

If you want to visit the medieval town of Certaldo you must use the funicolare train to get there. The ticket costs €1.50 for a return journey, per person and the train runs every 15 minutes. As a bonus when you return there is a good, yet cheap sandwich shop at the bottom, immediately to the right as you exit. Park in the car park opposite, which has reasonable prices.

After a hardous walk from Pancole to the top of the old town of Certaldo, my knees needed some tlc...so the ride down was pure luxury.

What a lovely small town Certaldo is! In the heart of Val d'Elsa, we visited it on our way back to Firenze from a morning visit to San Gimignano, and had a great time. There are two parts to this charming city - Certaldo Basso, which is the lower part in the valley which is mainly residential with some businesses, and Certaldo Alto, the old-world medieval part at the top of the hill, with Palazzo Pretorio, author Giovanni Bocaccio's house, as well as historic churches, a museum, several great restaurants, and a great view. Once parked for free at the bottom, the funicolare is a great and fast way to get to the top, and well worth the nominal fee (€1,70 round trip). We actually took the funicular to the top, had lunch and walked around, and then took the path by foot back to the bottom. Highly recommended!

Short ride the the small village at top. Good views, felt safe, quick and easy. There may be other ways to get up to Certaldo Alto but probably only for residents. In any case, go to the top and enjoy the ride on the funicolare. The ride and the village are worth it.

It's not the most exciting funicular railway to travel on, but it is the perfect to get from New Certaldo to Old Certaldo on foot. The railway is a short walk from the mainline station, and the ride takes a few minutes to reach the top. It costs very little to ride, and the station is automated, so you can just turn and pay at a machine. On the way down, the ticket machine was broken, so we had to pay at the bottom.

Our visit to Tuscany was already incredible, but this experience took it to a whole new level. This young man, who runs the place, is truly exceptional. A Solatio is an intimate and heartfelt experience. Raffaello and Donella shared their home with us for the afternoon with such grace and generosity. We learned the art and science of what it takes to produce a great bottle of wine and got to appreciate the true craftsmanship of Raffaello. His heart really goes into every bottle and we could not resist to buy a case for home. We highly recommend this tasting because it was a time well spent on the quality and story of every wine and delicious food pairing made by Donella. We left there in awe of the experience. Not only a stunning vineyard and olive grove in golden Tuscany, but a heartfelt and welcoming experience. Owners Donella and Raffaello, accompanied by their friend Susie, were an absolute delight. I have never felt so at home on the other side of the world. Raffaello took us through his organic wines in detail (each wine is clearly made with passion, heart and an experienced hand). Their very first ever sparkling is outstanding, his reds (which we were able to taste in both their final and maturing stages) were rich and beautifully balanced. While Raffaello joined us in great company, Donella and Susie were right alongside whipping up the most delicious vegan and vegetarian degustation dinner with ingredients straight from the garden. The freshest pesto I’ve ever had made with the biggest garlic clove I’ve ever seen was a highlight for me. By the end, it felt as if we were old friends. This will be one of my favourite memories from this trip. One of the best things to do in Tuscany - I would 100% recommend visiting A Solatio.

A beautiful pearl in the middle of Tuscany, close to the Medieval city of Certado. Here you can enjoy the good life, tasting wine and authentic Tuscany food prepared by food lovers. It's not a crowded touristic place, but a small scale wine farm where you can just relax. Count on at least 4 hours for a short tour, tasting wine and having lunch.

Hands down the best experience I had in Toscana, the value for the price is phenomenal and you can really feel authentic family atmosphere there. We are giving 5 starts but if we could we would give more!!! We were taking around the wine yard by the lovely Raffaello, and then their wonderfully set up wine tasting room to enjoy 4 different wine accompanied by appetiser, all of which were amazing!!! The guide Raffaello, is extremely knowledgeable and he manage to explain very complex process of wine making in words we both understood, since we were not much expert, the place is magnificent, one of the best experience!! Would highly recommended it to anyone visiting this area!!!

There are so many great wine makers in the region, but at the risk of sounding hyperbolic, this is our favourite to date. (For the record we've visited about a dozen around Chianti). Though the owner and staff were juggling other customers, we were treated to a very relaxed, very enjoyable food and wine "pairing" (not quite a pairing). At the end of the day, it's a winery and should be judged mostly by their wine. This is where they shine the brightest. I respect that owner's convictions not to release wines too early for a quick buck. His youngest wine at the time was a 2018 vintage, and the experience is all the better because of it. There is a clear focus on quality across the range and it shows. Are they cheapest wines you'll try in the region? Of course not and nor should they be. However for 45 euro each we were treated to their olive oils, multiple plates of food and half a dozen wines, all of which were exceptional. We look forward to enjoying the bottles we bought when we get back home. Do yourself a favour and make the time to stop in.

What a great experience to end our week in Tuscany. We had some time to spare before our flight out of Pisa and was able to book a last minute lunch & tasting experience here, wow! Love the personal touch and warm greetings from our host and the wine maker. Walking through the vineyard to the look out deck for the first tasting was magical. And the beautiful lunch with strangers who became friends, even though we didn’t speak all the same language, we bonded over the delicious food and wines…And the wines were one of the best we’ve tasted all week. Of course we had to place an order to ship back to California. Cheers!

There are 5 star places and then there are FIVE STAR PLACES!!! This place is AMAZING. A once in a lifetime experience. I can not overstate how unbelievable this experience at A Solatio was. My wife and I had a 3+ hour dinner with Raffaello (the wine maker and farmer) and it was like watching a masterclass on how to be an amazing conversationalist. The dinner flew by and before we knew it, it was already 1130 pm. Even though he had an early morning the next day, Raffaello would have probably stayed up with us even longer but unfortunately my wife and I had to head out for a long drive. The food was unbelievable, all home cooked and original Tuscan food. Both my wife and I showed up hungry and yet we still could not finish all the food he had for us. It was a feast. Also we learned so much about Tuscan wine and the philosophy of wine making from him. I hope to someday be like this man Raffaello and I hope to travel again to Tuscany in the future to do this experience again!!

Raffaello and his wife were fantastic hosts, the wine was delicious and the food pairings were spot on! My wife and I came to Tuscany during a Europe trip and with all of the vineyards and wineries in the area we are so glad we chose A Solatio for lunch and wine. Raffaello gave us a wonderful tour of his vineyard and told us some good stories of his life and of course of the wine. We had bottles of wine shipped back home to America because of how delicious and unique their wine is. Highly recommend planning a wine tasting here; it was unlike any other wine tasting we've been to and was a huge highlight of our trip to Tuscany!

My friends and I came here for my birthday lunch and we were blown away with the hospitality, views, food and of course- wine! This was the highlight of our trip and such a hidden treasure in Tuscany. The owners are completely brilliant, passionate about what they do and committed to supporting small wineries, olive oil producers, and Italian agriculture. We learned so much sitting, listening and sampling; and without a doubt this was one of the highlights of our time in Tuscany. The owners treat you like you are a family friend and they go out of their way to make you feel that you are the most important guest in the world. This is absolutely a must for anybody in the area and definitely do what I did which was bring home their amazing olive oil (which I am happily sharing with friends and family here in Vancouver Canada)!! We bought wine as well but enjoyed that in Italy before the long trip home!

Sorry I am never one to review any place badly but the experience I had at COMO Castello Del Nero was very poor for the standards of the hotel and for the price I paid. Although the Hotel is in a beautiful location in Tuscany with a splendid view and the rooms and facilities are great the service is awful ! First of all when we arrived (at it was after a long drive with pouring rain) there was no one to greet us no one to help us unload our car and take our luggage inside. Dinner and breakfast took ages and the staff was really nice but one of the members was not wearing a mask which we found very unprofessional given that they were mandatory at the time. The SPA had beautiful facilities and very nice staff but to our surprise when we arrived both the sauna and steam room where turned off. In the middle of the night around 1:00 all the power went out. No electricity to charge our phones for the long trip on the next day, no heating, it was really cold and all the lights and power out. The next morning when we had to leave we go out to get our car and to our surprise it was left outside the whole night on the road to get the hotel with the keys inside. And they just told us we are so sorry but the staff must have forgot to park the car. For a five star resort this is really unacceptable. It saddens me to have to write this but I was expecting much more from them.

We had been scheduled to stay at another property in the region which we heard several negative things about and decided on a last minute switch to COMO. I could not have been happier with that decision. COMO as a property is stunning overlooking the Tuscan hills. The service was attentive without being heavy handed and always with a warm smile. Loved our stay at COMO and we will be back.

Not a big selection of dinning but many good restaurants within 10-20 minutes drive, a short drive to the amazing looking Antinory winery. Service staff was friendly and very helpful, even our teen kids enjoyed it.

This is probably the best resort we have ever stayed at and now we want to try more COMO properties. The staff is so nice and helpful, and where able to help us with any small random request we might have. The attention to detail at this resort was very clear from the start and we could not find one complaint in our two day stay. The Michelin star restaurant on site is top notch and a must try. The hotel even recommended great wine tastings and places to eat in the local village. The price tag is high, but honestly I thought we got a steal for the price. We will be back!

So relaxing! We came here towards the end of our trip after just being in Florence for 4 nights and I don't know what we were expecting but this exceeded all expectations. The hotel is amazing, the grounds are amazing, the staff is so kind and helpful, the rooms were huge and gorgeous and the spa was phenomenal. Definitely stay here if you get the chance!

We love the COMO brand as the food and service is always very good. We have stayed at their Maldives hotel, Turks and Caicos hotel and Phuket hotel all have been superb. So we chose this during our trip in Italy. The property is spectacular. However, service was non-existent. There was no one waiting outside to help with our bags even though we phoned them to inform that we were on the way. So i had to get off the car, wait for someone to assist at reception. There were 4 people at the front desk and 1 customer at the front desk. As i entered,no one greeted which is fine but no one asked if they could help me with anything. And i just stood in line behind the 1 other customer thinking that maybe the staff all had different roles. After awhile one of the staff who was originally freely standing at the front suddenly decided to ask me if i needed anything. I had to further wait for the porter to arrive as they did not seem to have any. On the way to the hotel, i also asked if they could book us a hot air balloon ride for one of the days. Upon arrival i asked for confirmation as to which day it has been booked for, the lady who showed us around then decided to update me that there was no availability until xxxx date so i said to book us in for that date. The next day i asked the same lady who then said that there was no availability on the date she had told me. Then i asked her why didn't she look for me to update me instead of waiting for me to ask. She just kept quiet. So i told the manager who was standing beside her that i had asked for the hot air balloon ride before arrival and that this lady doesn't provide updates unless asked. The manager just said "we are trying our best" no apology at all. He did eventually arrange an external party to take us for the hot air balloon ride. I had also asked if the horse riding was available, he said he needs to check, but did not get back to us. So i think follow up and customer service at the front desk is severly lacking. Most of the time when you walk past them, they will not say a word let alone greet you UNLIKE all the other COMO establishments which we have gone to, always service with a smile and you feel like you can ask them anything. Breakfast service staff was not great they got the orders wrong, didn't bring the coffee despite asking 3 times. Room service also got the orders wrong. The dinner service team was top notch even though there was just 3 of them. They were efficient and full on concentration. Massage spa team excellent especially Eva. And Luigi was superb. Food was good too.

My wife and I stayed at this property on our honeymoon. We had to make a last minute pivot due to a poor experience at a neighboring hotel. This hotel was beautiful but it was the staff that truly made it exceptional. The general manager, check in staff, bartender, restaurant staff were all exceptional. There truly was not a single person on property that was not fantastic at their job and made guests feel welcomed. You can tell they are happy to be there. My fiancé arranged it all ahead of time and they used flowers from their own estate for a gorgeous bouquet for me in our room and even arranged matching petals in a heart over the bed. Along with some other treats for the room. From what he’s said too, they were so helpful and couldn’t do enough when he asked for their advice/services. They were so excited and happy for us too which made the moment feel even more special. Aside from this. We had our passports and my DSLR stolen in Rome and had to get new documents from the embassy. We didn’t have time to do this before our flight and they helped us by arranging a driver to fetch these for us and translate things where needed. They made a really stressful experience a lot smoother for us. They did all this even when it was our hotel in Rome that caused the loss of our goods and it had in reality nothing to do with them! Beautiful rooms, stoning views and a fantastic spa. But the food is really subpar for a 5 star hotel. Breakfast was average - with even the basics, like a sunny side up egg, poorly executed. Main restaurant was also just average - which you don’t expect when paying €30-40 per dish. And the Michelin stared restaurant was the biggest disappointment. Food simply didn’t taste good! And the menu didn’t seem to “flow”. If you are going to charge €400 per person for a dinner, you gotta deliver superb food.

Though this hotel is in an excellent location, not a 5 star experience. The bed is very old and worn woke up with a bad back and the pillows were awful also. We spoke to the staff and they gave us foam pillows and a pad for the mattress which didn’t help and smelled like a stale basement. The pool was advertised as heated it was not and it was dirty. There were bugs and flies in our room buzzing in my ear as I fell asleep. There was a screaming baby near by also. Moldy sanitary bags in the bathroom. We left our phone on the night stand while at the pool for a few hours and was covered in a layer of dusty. The coffee station in the room was nasty and not cleaned. The shower would turn on randomly. The worst of all there was NO HEAT I asked the front desk how to turn the heat on and was informed there was no heat and was given a space heater. How on earth is expectable in a”5 star” resort. I’m je food was over priced 30$ for a cheese burger it wasn’t even good.
