I was wondering what happened to all those beautiful and scenic beaches at Koh Lipe now since my last visit 3 years ago before the start of the Coronavirus pandemic. I traveled by ferry from Langkawi to the Island, after having cleared Immigration my rendezvous began. The journey from Langkawi took me about 1 hour 40 to reach the immigration Depoh. A reminder to check in early at the Langkawi Immigration before departure. The ferry fare is RM150.00. Lipe is transcending with it's almost perfect white sand and clear water beaches. Not easy to put it in words, you got to feel for yourself to best described it. Fortunately I went during off peak and have everything to myself to enjoy. Most places I visited were outstanding with its warmth and friendly smiles, service wise excellent. Then there was the local food marvelously yummy, for 3 days I was feasting like a Royalty, plenty to eat and prices were not too expensive for a budget traveler like me. Moving around this island is rather convenient or you can hire a motorcycle, language is not a problem most local can understand and speak simple English. You got to experience firsthand to feel the excitement, I can write for hours but nothing feels more enjoyable and rewarding then to actually be at the island. I would definitely plan another trip there since I have a little knowledge about the people and the places even with a tighter budget. Go and feel the life there, get pack and you'll never regret it. Just the best island to go on holiday! One thing to be aware is that they take your passports at immigration both in Malaysia and Thailand. Do not be alarmed as it’s standard procedure. Enjoy the wonderful beaches, water and overall friendly and safe vibe.

Little paradise of Southeast Asia. While some people might claim it is overrated I personally do not think so. It's a bit harder to get to compared to the other islands of the area (e.g. Phuket) so it does offer a piece of tranquility during the low (monsoon) season. The white sandy beaches and crystal clear sea make for a picturesque setting. It is also ideal for scuba divers and snorkellers alike due to the wealth of marine life surrounding the island.

We loved this island for the amazing water and marine life. Absolutely stunning fish and coral reefs. Unfortunately the island itself has not been looked after. So much rubbish everywhere, on the beach and in the jungle. Such a shame for such an amazing place in a marine park. It’s a bit of a hike to get to the island and is in great need of a major cleanup. Unfortunately we had to leave early because of oil on the sand from a fishing boat oil spill that nobody seemed to care about cleaning up. Apart from the oil and rubbish this place is stunning if you’re into snorkelling and diving. Lots of stray dogs.

This is a paradise! Sometimes i feel like everything is so perfect that is not real. Colors of the water is going more to the green but u can find a lot of spot that goes to the blue. Room and hotel are not super cheap but ok prices. U can go by walm and see all beaches that are 3/4 mainly. Love this place

Beautiful beaches, but swimming is impossible on one side of the island because of jellyfish. The pedestrian street is nice, but when you go from it, you are surrounded by filth and poverty.

Spectacular island with beautiful clear water. A few restaurants and bars available.Not a developed island and no cars. Motorbike taxi for transportation or you can walk if you enjoy walking. Convenience store 7/11 is overpriced here. Tailboat available for day rent to see the other smaller island nearby. Cost +- 1800 p/day. Kayaks average between 200-300 p/hour. Definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful island. It reminds a lot of Phi Phi, but it is much calmer. The sea is turquoise blue, warm. Beaches with white sand are neat and clean. We were on the northern side of the island and I would recommend this island for a vacation to everyone. At least once in their life to visit this island. The prices are not high, they are very affordable, and the food... what can I say...delicious. All recommendations!

Nice island. Getting there is not the most enjoyable journey, but it’s worth it. We were there during low season, 1-4 June, so some restaurants and other places were closed. I suppose there weren’t that many people for the same reason. It was peaceful and relaxing. It’s small enough and you can easily reach every part walking. The water is very clear and there are a lot of colorful fish and some corals. Nice spot for snorkeling. There are a lot of diving centers too. Unfortunately, there are often a lot of boats near the shore and it’s not ideal for swimming, but you can choose other spots for that. I wouldn’t recommend it for parties. Prices are higher compared to inland, but still lower than European standards. We recommend Sunset beach for the sunset.

Sunset Beach is a 10-15 minutes walk from Sunrise Beach and offers a great view on the sunset. The water is not as nice as sunrise beach though, but the vibe is more local. Sit at one of the local bars and enjoy the simple life. But still I would prefer Sunrise Beach at Zodiac for sunsets though.

The beach is beautiful and the water is crystal-clear (with the high tide) and there are not a lot of people. However, there was a big garbage boat parked (with all the trash we tourists produce) next to the resting spot and the smell was really bad and we had to leave. It is really sad what has happened to this stunning island, the amount of trash we tourists are responsible for is absolutely mind blowing. We are destroying this paradise on earth.

There are two kinds of reviews of this beach. Some people give 5 stars and other 1. That's because there are two parts of the beach. The first part is really beautiful and clean. There is a bar and a restaurant. 5 stars for that part 🤩 The second is a ... junkyard. I am not saying it is just super dirty and smelly. It is literally a place where they park a boat for transporting trash and trucks come to dump them. Honestly I cannot understand why someone decided to turn this small and beauty beach into something like this. Probably the worst neighbor ever. If you want to visit don't go down using the first enterance, as it is a road to the junkyard. Use the second one in a hotel.

Very beautiful cosy place, thai/spanish owned and managed! The paradise beach with beautiful water and sand is just 10 meters from the beachfront bungalows! You can snorkel from the beach and see lot of fish around the corals and rocks. Bungalows are simple (fan and mosquito net) but nice in local style. For every bungalow 2 sunchairs are reserved on the beach. Nice little palm-lined restaurant where you can sit and watch the amazing scenery. They offer the rental of kayaks and snorkel equipment. Pick up service with a longtail upon arrival/departure from Pattaya Beach to Sanom Beach. Strongly recommended - we stayed more than 2 weeks (January 2022) and felt very comfortable with the people/resort 😊

Came to this beach for “only a day” and ended up staying in the resort for 3 nights (and didn’t want to leave). The staff - everyone- is the most friendly I’ve met in my whole month in Thailand. (The owners even more) always with a smile and very gentle. The bungalows are very simple but just perfect, super clean and with everything someone need in Thailand (the best view). The beach is soooo pretty, clear water and nice place to snorkel as well. And the food from the place is the best I ate in Lipe, really fresh and done at the moment. I had the best time at Sanom beach and highly recommend it!

We stayed at Sanom after few days at castaway, both were great and have their own charm. For Sanom: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1. Location is the best on the island. 2. Room itself was OK, beach front was stunning, one of the best views I have ever had sleeping next to the beach. 3. Hotel staff were friendly and took care of us, small things like incense against mosquitoes was provided. 4. We were able to go watch sunsets on the other side of the island as it was 3 minutes walk. 5. The resort is 10 minutes from the walking street but it was quiet and nice during night. 6. We even saw bioluminescent planktons - amazing! 7. Seats were reserved for us as resort guests, what secured for us the best spots. Best value for money i have ever had. I would probably have paid more if rooms were more equipped.. the potential is huge. Will come back for sure. 💖

A nice bungalow resort at a small secluded beach. We just came for the day to chill out in the chairs(300baht for the day) and enjoy the beach. You can go snorkeling from this point as well. We ordered the sticky rice mango and some smoothies which was both good. The lady is very friendly and the dogs sometimes come for a cuttle. We had a great day.

We had an absolutely mesmerising 4 nights at Sanom beach, which is arguably the nicest beach on Koh Lipe. It's separated from the main beach (and therefore a lot quieter) but easily accessible via a little boardwalk between the 2 beaches, by boat taxi, or via the main road. The property is owned by a lovely local, which unfortunately is rare on the island. He managed, together with the western manager, to keep big resorts at bay while the rest of the island is getting more and more developed. It's incredible value for money. Beachfront bungalows at a fraction of the price you'd get anywhere else on the island. They manage to keep these prices by only taking direct bookings, so head to the website for a great deal! The rooms are basic but comfortable. The only thing to be aware of is that they don't have air-conditioning, and the beds are slightly on the small side (however we're both 1.80/ 1.85 cm tall...). But all that is forgotten once you see the unspoiled views and friendly staff. We left after 4 nights as we'd booked our final 2 nights on the island at Serendipity resort, which was also great but secretly still left us longing for Sanom beach. Thank you Cheng and Mariona! Sending love from Amsterdam and hope to see you again :)

This is little paradise on earth, staff speaks only little English but it's like that in whole country. Beach is nice and its so much comfort to be able to shower after swimming and rest in the shade. Beach bungalows were great. Snorkling is great because there are no longboats so you can relax. There's lot of crabs at night which can be interesting to watch, they are harmless as they run away or play dead when you spot them. PS. There's little bridge that connects this place with Pattaya Beach so it's still pretty close to walking street.

Today we wanted to spend the morning on the beach in front of the SANOM BEACH RESORT (more like a beach bar than a resort) We didn't even have the chance to set foot there. A sad and grumpy lady came to receive us and wanted to get us out of the shade of the beach. Saying it was too close to his place. And that their customers would be upset. Customers that weren't there. The embittered lady and her "thug" told us that it wasn't their problem that we had a baby and that if we had to get into the ground it didn't matter to them. The reality is that the shadow was on the public beach and had no right to kick us out. Really deplorable treatment. The worst reception in Thailand and much of the world. The manager of the beach bar is very ill-mannered, and from what we've seen in the comments, she spends all day kicking people out of the Public Beach where she has some shabby bungalows. She occupies the shade of the trees on the Beach with the hammocks at the beach bar. We have a 1 year old baby and we can't leave the baby in the sun, anyone with two thumbs can see it. The ill-mannered woman told us that it wasn't her problem... And she threatened us that if we didn't leave, the police would come and get us into trouble for leaving the island. Too bad it was our last day, it would have been interesting to have the police come and explain to them what this energumena is doing with this public beach. When we left the Thai man accompanied us shouting at his orders, it seemed he wanted to hit us.

I loved it. Quiet and away from Pattaya Beach crowds. The fans were enough for me to sleep well. Everything very clean and cleaned daily. Lovely cat and super sweet dog always up for pets. Wonderful owner and staff who organized everything. I also really liked that Jeang the owner was born on Koh Lipe and has lots to share about life there pre tourism. They upgraded me to a bungalow right on the beach because they weren’t full. And Mariona the manager organized the best massage.

Unfortunately, I had a very unpleasant experience. After taking the long journey to the resort and looking forward to a coffee at 8 am, one is rudely informed that the approximately 40 free seat cushions are only for guests of the hotel and that one should please take a seat at a table. The owner of the resort was very rude! She thinks she owns the whole beach!! We were kayaking and somehow the current brought us near the beach so we stopped by to get some coconut juice and rest first as we tired. The moment we arrived and sat, not even near their sun-bed (not on it). One grumpy old lady with spectacles told us to move away. So we did, okay that’s fine maybe this beach is private? (Turns out the beach is public!! only the resort’s property was the sunbeds LOL)… and then we went to their cafe counter to buy some coconut. One of the workers replied that they ran out of coconut already… wow really?? Seems like the owner told her staff to shoo us away.. Bad impression on our first day in koh lipe. Maybe koh lipe authority should do something about this.
