Great park and house. Made for a lovely weekend. Nice to explore and relax in the gardens. Restaurant should have been better staffed so a full menu could be available. The Cornish Pasties and sausage rolls were good, but I would have preferred a few choices.

It was so quick and easy to get to this place and park, but I would recommend getting a membership as it makes it even easier. The house and gardens were wonderful, I took loads of pictures because I found it so fantastic. I would definitely recommend visiting this place. Absolutely stunning house with tons of history and entertainment for any children you might bring with you. They have a few different interactions within the house for children to take part in, staff dressed as the characters that would have lived there around the house, dressing up areas in the children’s bedrooms and play areas inside along with puzzles to play with. So overall Audley End would be a great place to take the whole family as it provides entertainment for the children and history sites for the adults. There is also a play area in the gardens further away from the house for the children to play in, with a cafe. Absolutely amazing place to visit. I would totally recommend it for a nice day out! 😋

An interesting place and something different from the normal English Heritage property. The last entry to the hall is 15:00, inside you will find an amazing entrance hall. You are free to wonder round with information boards in each room and a volunteer on hand. There is no photography allowed in the hall, but you can get a guidebook with pictures in. The gardens are well kept with plenty of benches. Cafe, gift shop and toilets.

Driving in to Audley End feels like you're entering a scene from Downton abbey, it's just stunning. We loved our visit and knew we were entering somewhere pretty special. You will need around 3-4 hours to visit if you want to just wander through the house and extensive gardens. We wished we had taken a picnic though as the grounds are stunning and there is ample space to set down a blanket and enjoy the environment. There is a cafe where you can buy lunch, cakes, drinks etc. We missed the shows and demonstrations they offer due to lack of planning on our part, it was a last minute decision to visit. I would recommend looking online to see what is going on before you go. The curators have explained everything perfectly, you get a real sense of the story and what it was like to live in the house. There is a lot to see, the visitors were multi generational and of mixed abilities, there are steps and there is a lot of walking but there are also plenty of places to rest, I think if you take it easy most of the house could be enjoyed by all. I didn't see any lifts inside but there may have been. No photography is allowed in the main house unfortunately but the do have a guide book to buy if you would like to show friends and family what it's like inside. We didn't get a chance to do the miniature steam railway which is just opposite the main entrance, they do say always leave something to go back for though and that is good reason to return. My advice, make this a full day visit, there is ample to do for people aged 2-102

Audley end house and gardens make a great day out. Attended the ww2 weekend which was absolutely brilliant and would certainly come again next year. And to get away from all the crowds, the grounds are quite something too.

Audley End House was just opening up for spring when we arrived. There were few visitors when we arrived just after midday and we toured the house first. The house itself is well set out with knowledge guides and information sheets in the main rooms. The nursery was particularly interactive for kids (the rest not so much). Some of the rooms were poorly lit, presumably for the preservation of the exhibits, stuffed animals & birds, tapestries etc. The ceilings are spectacular ... so don't forget to look up. The tea room has an odd layout and the queue was substantial at lunchtime. By 2pm they still had plenty left (the pasties were a favourite) and the staff were helpful. The dining area was tight, especially with prams & pushchairs. Highchairs are available but I could see several mums were not impressed by their cleanliness. The plates, bowls, cutlery etc. was all disposable but some metal forks/knives/spoons were available in the 'dresser' if you know where to look. The kitchen gardens are tidy but uninspiring as they are not growing anything yet, and we didn't have time to see the stables as they shut at 3:30. The shop was small but as they are changing the products lots were half price. They are clearly developing some additional spaces, a shop and seating in the courtyard area.

This was our Sunday afternoon sorted! Plenty to see plenty of history and above all very child friendly, activities within the house for children areas for you to just sit and take in the history and even on this visit one of the staff members was playing the piano which was very pleasant, two lady servants in the kitchen areas was very in character telling us what they was up to for who and then whT they will do when they clock of from the working quarters (loved it). The tea rooms was reasonably priced and a nice amount on offer for lunch and snacks. Children's play area was good and toilets at hand in multiple places. Plenty of pick nick areas and space. Well worth the 2 hour drive. Will 100% be visiting again.

Audley End makes a gentle day out. Plenty of room to stroll and enjoy some scenery. If you need some greenery and ducks it's perfect! We really enjoyed the gardens in spring. The house is interesting, especially if you like classic portraits. But the more curious things are explained to you by the staff. Worth asking! Only downside was the price for refreshments. Plenty of room for picnics tho.

Peaceful and relaxing gardens with historical interest. Worth a visit if you're a member of English heritage. Many different places, walled garden, historic house, seasonal garden displays. Two cafes and a small kids playground. Quite a few picnic tables. The river cam provides a beautiful backdrop.

Beautiful house containing some amazing pieces. Love that some of the staff around the grounds are in costume and in character. The grounds are vast and beautiful. Horses in the stables are gorgeous and of great temperament. Cafe and toilet facilities are of good high standard. Lovely little play area just before heading back to the carpark for the kids to let go of that last bit of steam and for you to relax with a coffee.

English heritage site, stately home, gardens, cafe and playground. We had a fantastic time walking around and taking in the history. There's just enough going on to keep you entertained for a few hours, followed by a few hours just sitting on the grass under one of the lovely trees... just relaxing.

Wow! This place is incredible. The house is huge with lots of history and beautiful/different things to look at. You get to see the children's nursery, the dairy, the servants area, the laundry, the meat store and much more. The grounds are extensive with lots of lovely places to sit. You get to see the stables, an organic vegetable garden and the most beautiful set of ponds and a river with waterfalls. Both adults and children thoroughly enjoyed our day out.

This is a remarkable building which has been incredibly preserved to give visitors a real taste of history. Once visited it becomes clear why it is one of the jewels in the English Heritage collection. There are many well furnished rooms to look around and a decent tea room to relax in. The gardens seemed to be quite decent but I didn't have time to tour them properly. The one part I did try to visit, the walled garden, was unfortunately closed. The main reason I have not been able to award this place the full five stars is because of their ban on photography in the main house. I can understand there being no flash photography but no photography at all seems excessive. I am aphantasic which means I can't picture images in my mind so photos are really important to me as a memory. No photos means I have no real memory of the building at all which is a huge disappointment. I would strongly encourage English Heritage to look again at this ban to see if it can be relaxed. Apart from that it is a wonderful place that I would encourage anyone to visit.

Beautiful piece of architecture, well-informed and friendly staff, plenty to see and explore. We had a great day out with our 6 year old. We had lots of fun despite the rain. Good playground too.

A quintessential stately home set in Capability Brown landscaping. English Heritage have done very good job with the conservation and balanced our a accesss to the house so we can best enjoy it. Brilliant.

Great place to visit. Staff and volunteers are very helpful and friendly. The rooms are really good and volunteers are great at telling their history. Nice cafe and reasonably priced food.

10/10. A bit pricey but worth to pay the entrance fee and visit the magnificent interior of the house along with the outside rooms and gardens which are really big and so beautiful, looked after. Had an amazing day out in there and you can also have a cuppa and some snacks or food :)

Really lovely English Heritage property. Beautiful grounds and plenty to do for children including playground and a nursery with toys and dressing up items. Riders stop horses so children can stroke them.

Fantastic place! Full of history and art. Visited before, but some rooms were closed because of the pandemic. The volunteers are so knowledgeable and happy to help with any questions. The staff is amazing too, friendly and welcoming. Lots of space for parking, and a lovely café for the necessary tea/ coffee afterwards. We'll definitely visit again. (I suggest becoming an English Heritage member though)

This was a really enjoyable rainy day out. Lovely walking around and learning the history of the family and their grand home. Met one of the horses close up and got to ask questions about him. My girls played in the little park. Not much in the way of lunch choices, and really long queues but we did get to the restaurant late. We would love to return in the summer to enjoy the grounds more.

Great for a walk in the grounds and the house is small but lovely to walk around. Nice cafe with a good selection of hot and cold sandwiches, pies etc cute shops. Not a whole day out but ideal for an afternoon visit

So wonderful to see, and the tour guides were awesome! We watch The Victorian Way, and it was a delight to see where the magic happens! So pleased it's been opened for the public! We will be back!

We had a fantastic Easter Sunday here. So beautiful and enchanting. A huge amount of time, dedication and effort has gone into making everything magical. Only negative is that the gift shop is extremely expensive so avoid if you're watching your pennies 🐣

We really loved it here. My boys 3 & 6 loved riding on the miniature train and playing in the play area. We went when the children in that area were back at school so it was quiet and we got to ride the train twice. There was a lot of attention to detail and everything was beautifully done. All the staff were really friendly.

What a stunning place this is to visit. Truly magical. Some amazing hard work has gone into the creation and upkeep of this beautiful place. Fully accessible and spotlessly clean. The wonderfully kind staff could not have been more welcoming or helpful. We had the most wonderful day. Thank you so very much. If you haven’t booked tickets yet, do it! You won’t be disappointed.

What a fantastic place to visit. Had such a lovely time. Everyone is welcomed by happy and polite staff. Lots of information given about where to go and what to do. We were so well looked after made welcome. A delightful train ride with lots to see and a joyful stop off to see Santa and the naughty elves. Poor Mrs Clause trying to control that lot! Cant wait to go back and see the other amazing things this place has to offer.

Really really lovely. We were really underwhelmed when we arrived, but it's all hidden in the woods. Didn't think our 16month old would get much out of it but she had a lovely time and the playground is fab. Coffee and hot chocolate were terrible! Didn't give 5*s due to the outrageous booking fee of £2.99. When we went weekday in July there was no need to book. We got two rides as it was so quiet. Would love to visit again

An absolutely brilliant day out, an enchanting railway with a very good play area. The Easter themed activities were absolutely superb, we loved the performances as well as the trails.

The price is very expensive I wouldn't have come if I hadn't got a carers rate. As £17 each I think for kids and adult. However, I can see that they spend the money on the park so it did change my mind a bit about the price. Halloween was really good and so much to do. I would recommend going and carers get in for free. Lots of food and drink stalls.

It was an amazing and magical experience. I can say that i enjoyed it as much as my daughters. Definitely a must visit place. The staff were incredibly nice, the whole place was magical, the train ride was amazing and you had a lot to see during the ride. After the ride you experienced the magic by walking. There were a lot of places to sit and relax, having a drink while kids were playing

It was my first visit. My son and grandchildren had been before and loved it. The train ride was wonderful and the natural setting and fairy houses very well done. Shame that some of the fairy walk was closed, presumably because of the weather, otherwise it would have been five stars. Lovely pasty. Everyone was very friendly and professional. I recommend it.

Had a great day out with friends and oyr daughters and grandchildren. Santas work shop, Elfs and Santa were brilliant, and it was nice to travel on the minature railway. The children loved the playground and carasoul as well. Although a little pricey, it was still worth it for all the laughs had!

What a lovely day out! Took our 7 year old son and thought he wouldn’t be interested in the fairies but he loved finding them all and marking them off in the book. Train ride was good and he really enjoyed the bubbles and play area.

We have been to this for Halloween, and twice for Easter. This year we had a complication and needed to change our time slots- they were more than helpful. The experience is so great. Food is limited, but you are allowed to take in your own food which is amazing ! Can’t wait to go back

Lovely railway and craft event. The fairies were intricately displayed and the playground is amazing. The weather was not quite on our side but we still had a lovely day. Think it was slightly overpriced for what is, it would have been better to have 2 loops on the train to make it better value for money. That said, it's a beautiful setting, ample parking and the kids loved it.

Had a rally day with my daughter, which her friends bought her for her birthday. When we got there we were asked to pay £50 for our insurance which we disputed by was told if you don’t pay you can’t drive, none of this is explained when you purchased the ticket. The rally experience was good but only lasted about 1/2 hour, we had a day at London rally school a few years ago and no insurance money asked for and were in an out of cars most of the day. I would not go back as not value for money.

Best experience ever! My second time coming here for a rally experience, first time was the escort, this time was the half day in one of the sierras. Couldn’t stop smiling the whole time, to be able to push yourself in an environment that it’s okay to is just amazing and so so much fun!! There was 6 of us there using two cars and took turns swapping about every 15 mins, got a total of 3 runs which was plenty enough time (although I could defo do it all day lol). Tom and his dad are brilliant instructors and are really helpful in where you need to improve. I had also booked my dad for a mk2 escort experience after the half day finished for a bday present and he had a brilliant time, both of us drove all the way home with huge grins on our faces!! If you need a sign to book a rally day with LPRS, this is it !!

I got given a voucher for the tractor driving experience as a Christmas present and it was absolutely amazing! The all of staff were incredibly friendly, especially the instructor. The machine itself was a John Deere 6R, and little under a year old, a wonderful piece of kit, especially to learn in. I would 100% recommend! Just be prepared to wait a few months to get a booking as it seems insanely popular. Google maps also seems to attempt to recommend using a private farm track when coming from Cambridge, which causes a considerably long detour. The actual entrance is between two villages by the names of Little Chishill and Lower green!

Great guys/instructors on point, good track layout, good selection of cars and camera options, well worth a visit if you done track days as rallying brings you a whole different perspective!

We enjoyed a fantastic visit to Langley Park Rally School recently for our son's 16th Birthday. We booked both a junior driving experience in the school's Toyota Aygo X, followed by a drive in the rally-prepped Suzuki Swift. Telephone contact was excellent, as we had to postpone by a week due to flooding in the local area. The staff were very accommodating in re-booking us at a convenient time. The school setup is impressive. Lots of cars, decent toilets, plenty of viewing areas, and a series of large log cabins to stay warm, have a drink or snack, and watch from inside. The track layout is long, and appears to be on part of the perimeter track from the former RAF Nuthampstead. Our son had an incredible experience. Simon, his instructor, was very patient, explained things clearly and offered valuable feedback at the end of the sessions. It's a family run business, and all members of the family were very welcoming, and extremely kind to both our boys. The option to have the experience recorded and take the footage home on an SD card is a nice touch, and reasonably priced. All of the family had a great time visiting the school, were warmly welcomed, and will absolutely be going back soon. Hopefully I'll get a go next time!

Thank you for my tractor driving experience today. It was a superb birthday present. The instructor was clearly passionate about tractors and gave me a lot of facts and information about the vehicle, farming and hay production. Really professional and I enjoyed talking tractor! Highly recommended

It was a very cold day , A heater was supplied in the cabin and the owner bought me over a lovely hot cup of tea to keep me warm.. We will definitely be returning.. Michelle

Very disappointing. This was bought for our adult son through Red Letter Day, as a 'two hour' experience. He was booked for 10am but we had to wait an hour whilst the car was 'fixed'. He was then apparently entitled to 3 laps of the course following a few minutes explanation from the guy who took him out. I think the whole thing from when the car was finally ready, to finish, was about 20 minutes. We were also told on arrival, that we had to pay an extra £25 insurance waiver in addition to the purchase price paid through Red Letter. Nice people, but very disappointing.

This place is wicked! Will definitely be returning, went into this with no experience in rear wheel drive off-road, Simon was really calm and patient talking me round the track and his cues were very helpful, definitely feel more experienced coming out from this experience and can't wait to go back and learn more! The hot-lap at the end makes the experience worth it alone! Cheers 🤘

Although the videos at first may seem expensive, it is in line with other similar experiences/companies but you also get the raw footage on sd card, so that's great.

What a hidden gem in Saffron Walden! Our family so enjoyed exploring these free public gardens. The hedge maze and nearby playground made this the perfect little day trip. Have paid to see less impressive gardens - highly recommend you make time to walk through and appreciate these!

Went out for the day and visit here the bridge end gardens for a couple of hours. Very nice display of tulips . Saw a cheeky squirrel. And went through the maze which was quite fun. Especially if you had kids. But lovely grounds to walk around . Would have been even better if we came more into the year , so we could see other flowers in bloom . But thus is definitely the place to go for a couple of hours . If you want to get out of the house . I would definitely recommend it to family and friends. Or anyone. And there is a car park 8 mins from the gardens called Swan meadow car park. Its free on Sundays and Bank Holidays. Also if you want you could walk around town and here the bells go from the church which sound wonderful. You can't take your dog unfortunately and less it's a guide dog .

A real gem and is free, lovely gardens, Dutch garden and maze, lots to see, suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, toilets available and has the Fry Galley on entering at the side of the blue house, check online first to see when open.

So beautiful and can sit and watch the world pass by. Seeing people wander about with little ones or seeing older kids playing their version of gide and seek. Gorgeous flowers and so many places to sit, so many nooks and crannies to hide and retreat from the everyday. We came quite late so wasn't so busy but could imagine in the school holidays or weekends could be very busy.

Good an free, nice in Spring an Summer. Toilets there too, nice place to stop for lunch an good for kids as playground nearby an a bit of a green area for little kids to have a safe run about .

£2.50 for adults to get in a worth every penny. We'll set our. Lots of interesting items and displays to see including lots of different things. So worth a visit.

16/9/21 Despite not being a large museum, this one has a huge variety of exhibits and each room has a different theme. This includes local history, archeology, natural history, furniture and even ancient Egypt. The museum portrays the town and the surrounding area very well both in objects and information.

Very good value and surprisingly large. Very friendly staff who explained how to get the most out of our visit. Very interesting!!

Nice little museum with good information on the expositions. One hour later one has really learnt a lot about this area.

This museum is really great. It shows what can be achieved by local people chronicling the history of their local area. I've visited here several times over about a decade. It never disappoints, it isn't expensive to get in unlike some places and you'll spend several hours here learning things about the local area. You can also access the ruins of Walden Castle in the museum grounds.

This museum is well hidden from the hustle and bustle of the main shopping area, but well worth the visit. We went for an adults crafting event. A "bring your own craft and chat". I had parked at a friend's house and we walked into town so didn't make use of the car park (free, but limited spaces!). We sat in a well lit and large area used for children's activity days. A table and chairs had been set up and we were welcomed with the offer of a cup of tea. There were biscuits and cakes too. The museum staff and volunteers were all very friendly and helpful. The museum itself appeared clean and tidy. The toilets were in good order and clean. There is a small gift shop. The entrance fee (£2.50) was included in our craft event, although we didn't look round the museum on this occasion.

for a local museum this place is great. it’s not massive and doesn’t take long to go around but has a lot to see and do. it is very child friendly and lots of hands on exhibits that are interactive. well thought through exhibits and activities throughout the year and school holidays. a great way to introduce children to museums.

Lovely gallery. Perfect size to view paintings without feeling overwhelmed. Park and gardens behind. Perfect for a picnic.

I've known about this gallery for many years but didn't visit until this summer when doing personal research around Saffron Walden. The gallery holds the most amazing collection of Edward Bawden and Eric Ravilious art. In fact it is packed with so much it is a little overwhelming. I spent a couple of hours on a warm day and found it difficult to spend any more time in there as I couldn't breathe very well. I will certainly go back and choose a cooler day and spend time absorbing all the beautiful things they have to show... It is very inspiring and just amazing that all the work relates to the countryside around Saffron Walden.

Focuses on local artists- very welcoming and showing only a portion of the art they have. Will be back again to see exhibitions in 2024.

I knew nothing about this gallery and the Great Bardfield artists group until my friend encouraged me to visit. I was not disappointed. The artwork of lettering, lino prints, wood engravings, ceramic decoration has something for anyone who enjoys art and the use of different techniques. It's a small gallery but packed with interest. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. The attached gardens were delightful. We spent a magical afternoon.

Really worth visit to this little gem of a gallery, especially if you are interested in the North West Essex Artists, Edward Bawden, Ravilious etc. Volunteer staff very friendly and engaging. Free admission but donations welcome. Closed now until 7th April.

Small art gallery but absolutely full of works by mid 20th century illustrators and painters, Edward Bawden and the splendidly named Bernard Cheese in particular my favourites. Genuinely well worth a visit. Do check the rather limited opening times but don't let that put you off.

Delightful small gallery focusing on local artisits from 1930, including Eric Ravilious, Edward Bawden, Michael Rohenstein and John Aldridge. The lighting could be better as it refelcts on most of the artworks.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. I was there to see lithographic exhibition.

They are really nice but really cheeky, e.g on the website they will quote you get £1000 and then once evaluated it would be like £2.50 - the £50 admin fee, I bet they have never paid what they quotes on the website lol

Great screen and sound quality. Bad seating for movies over 90mins... Run and has a village hall approach to cinema no proper reception area or refreshments area after the fuss you might as well put vending machines in.

Saffron Screen is a welcome, now established addition to the town's leisure services. The selection of films is good, considering the need to appeal to a broad audience, and the volunteer-run concessions stand has a fine mix of provisions, notably including wine. The seats could be a bit more comfortable, but you can't have everything!

I love watching movies there I would go back there again

We visited one Sunday afternoon. There was plenty of parking and the venue was sign posted from the car park. Where we had parked (gold car park) we found that I had to push mum in the wheelchair on the road because the footpaths had no dropped kerbs. We realised as we approved the front door that we could have parked much closer. We arrived at the entrance and was directed to Saffron Screen (this site is also home to Saffron Hall). An attendant kindly held the door open for us as mum was in a wheelchair. There was food and drink available to purchase in the hall before the film. It was warm inside (we went on a very cold day) and we found our seats quickly as they were all numbered. Be aware that only the front seats are ground level as the rest are tiered. The screen was a perfect size for the hall and we could hear everything clearly. When the film was over we went outside and found it was dark. There was plenty of lighting around the venue and car park.

Excellent facilities as a cinema in a local town. And selling saffron ice-cream!

Part of such a great hub of culture, along with Saffron Hall, all within the school. Seems to choose its films carefully. However, when we attended, the cinema was far too cold. No signs up about heating not working - maybe this is normal?

As expected, quite uncomfortable seats for someone cursed with long legs! Great film if somewhat depressing, but character building and self sacrificing.

This is pretty much the only cinema in the area! Keep going, guys! We appreciate you.

Just watched the film Maigret. Excellent French language with subtitles. Atmospheric. Saffron Screen offers great choice of films. Plenty of Parking space available. Varied refreshments and if you become a member free hot drink at all performances. A great independent cinema. Well worth supporting

Great cinema, although long queue as we arrived, after standing innit for 10 minutes it transpired it was for snacks etc!.. would have been useful to know beforehand! Cinema way to hot 🔥 Otherwise good.

A lovely concert hall, with great sound. There is more than enough parking as well as a nice little bar. The 2 downers for me , were i found the seating uncomfortable and also the lack of toilet capacity. Other than that a great venue.

Visited the Hall this evening to see a classical violinist, the hall lacks atmosphere, feels like a hospital corridor. The violinist was disappointing too, not at all what I thought she would be like.

We sang in a concert here as part of a large chorus and orchestra. From a performer's viewpoint this is an exceptionally well-equipped venue, and members of the audience we spoke to also praised the front of house experience.

A lovely market and town square. Lots of stalls selling everything from vegetables, olives, hats, seafood, antiques and many more. Have been going here for almost 20 years, still look forward to going and just browsing and buying bits and pieces. Saffron Walden is a beautiful Essex town.

It is a pretty little square with attractive period buildings - especially the Town Hall. It is a pity that the square is given over to parking.

Great quirky little side streets to explore off the Market,and lovely food stalls and various other interesting stuff on the Market itself.

First time visitors, the market is smallish with around a dozen vendors. Some are very good, the Brown Bread bakery is first rate. There is a fine fruit and veg stall too, great olives nearby. The town is ancient with lovely old buildings, plenty of independent stores and coffee shop's.

It wasn't a market day, only Tuesdays and Saturdays. We even enjoyed the visit to the village and took lots of pictures of the beautiful facades. There is so much history through the walls and houses that if you can stop and close your eyes, you can listen to the old tales.

On Saturdays there is a great selection of stalls from fruit and veg, bread and cakes, fresh ground coffee to buy and drink, clothing, pet food and treats, fresh fish and more. It's a great market.

This is a lively buzzing town, and on Saturday the market in very good good range of stalls and products from wet fish stalls, vegetables, flowers, clothes & leather goods. All amongst the other various shops are all doing good trade. Well, it's worth a visit.

All of the coffee shops and small eateries were packed. We thoroughly enjoyed the market. Such wonderful stalls. We bought lots of cheese. We came home with lots of Christmas gifts. Surprise find for us. Went to Audley End house and went into Saffron Walden to see St. Mary's church and just stumbled upon the market and the lovely town. Loads of fresh produce, fish and baked goods. We walked around the village for a bit, marveling at the old 13th century architecture. We will definitely be back for a visit.

15th century chapel which is still standing with its glory. It giving u an opportunity to have a 360 degree view of Cambridge city from its top tower. So worth to climb n have spectacular views of Cambridge. It’s right in the middle of city centre so u no need to struggle to b there. Whenever u visit Cambridge, easy to catch up.

Beautiful in the inside, if you decide to go up the tower (£6) be warned that you will have to go up 125 steps in a very narrow space. It can be difficult for kids or older people, but the view from the top is amazing, totally would recommend

Great view of Cambridge from the tower. Cost 6 pounds per person to go up and you need to climb 124 stairs to make it. Worth it in my opinion :) the church it self is nice as well but nothing special, if you want an impressive cathedral you need to go to king's college which is right next to it and cost a tenner to get into

Interesting place to visit and explore. Especially the main tower to climb up on top of it and take the best views photos. it have a small fee charge for the tower part which is 4.50 GBP, but the whole Church visit is totally free :)

Excellent views from the church tower. You might need to catch your breath after climbing all those round shaped steps but the amazing view will take your breath away. The church entry is free of charge but the tower visit requires a ticket. Family tickets for two adults and two kids are a good deal!

St. Mary the Great is the university church of Cambridge, right opposite of the biggest college, King's College. It dates back to the 13th century, but the present building was constructed between 1478 and 1519. If you've seen many cathedrals and other larger churches around England, especially the magnificent Ely Cathedral, Great St. Mary's won't strike you as quite so great. Architecturally, I found it rather bland and underwhelming, except maybe for the wooden galleries. You won't find much to look at or study, 10 minutes or so will suffice. It's still a nice church per se, just not as spectacular as many others I visited. It is always open to the public.

Stunning church in a beautiful Georgian Architecture. The view from the tower is gorgeous and the insides of the church are quite nice. It's also in a central spot and it's easy to reach other important places from here.

Beautiful church with tower allowing you to exhibit the whole city from around 25m height. It’s £6 per person to get to the tower top where you have to climb 120 steps in a very narrow spiral staircase, amazing experience btw😄! !! Staff was very well organised and didn’t allow people to crowd on top or get stuck somewhere in the middle as there are no landings. Highly recommend to go to the top as the views are breathtaking!

I think the tower visit should be a little cheaper, I know you can spend longer up there, but after 2 minutes, my daughter wanted to go back down. Church is beautiful. We spent time in prayer and browsed the gift shop. No toilets (closest mcdonalds and m&s)

A beautiful church sitting between the market and the university. Known as the University of Cambridge's spiritual home since 1209. It was a glorious day weather wise, and for £6 I took the opportunity to walk up the tower and admire the views. A narrow spiral stone staircase of 123 steps, not for the faint-hearted. You can also view the bells on your climb. I would definitely recommend a visit if you're able.

This is a church with a 1000 year history which still operates and holds regular service. It's free to visit but you can pay £6 to climb 100+ steps to the top of the tower to get panoramic views of Cambridge which includes clear unobstructed views of Kings College and Chapel. Highly recommended!

A stunning church - sadly wasn't able to look round much as there was a service on. But did get to go up the tower (£6) - it was very narrow and 125 steps but the views were worth the climb. Think £6 is a little steep in price but the children love it. Coming down was defiantly more scary than going up. Can't wait to return and have a good look around the church.

The church itself is nothing extraordinary but worth to visit anyways. The tower is quite easy to clim and you get a great 360 view on Cambridge from the top. Ticket costs 6£ which is ok if you consider it as a donation to the church.

It's free to visit but is under repair and years behind schedule, so you can get close but not go in. Information boards and museum on site. Saffron Walden is a lovely place to visit and has lots of free and interesting places to see around the town including wonderful old buildings and lots of individual shops.

If you want to see the fortress, then you will not see it here, but only see the ruins, in fact, only one wall, which contains signs of human intervention in order to create a tourist attraction from the place. The admission is free, therefore it costs nothing to see and pay respect for the effort put into preserving this object.

Heavily ruined castle, of which only the core of the walls and two stories of the keep remain. Previously open to visitors during Saffron Walden Museum opening hours, but fenced off for repairs when I visited in spring 2023. While it remains closed, it's only worth a look if you're already visiting Saffron Walden - fortunately there's plenty more to see in town, including the impressive St Mary's church.

We were staying in the area and dropped on this beautiful pub on way home. Even though they had a wedding reception and there were 9 of us, they were able to provide us with a large table for us all and a wonderful meals plus great service. Will drop in there again if I'm in area. Thanks

We had an excellent lunch the food was cooked to perfection and the service was friendly. The buildings and grounds are immaculate making it good venue for a Leisurely meal. The one thing I was surprised to see the VAT was added after the bill was totaled up making it 20% more than I expected.

Again, the dishseemed to be slightly under seasoned but was well-cooked nonetheless. The evening ended with a double shot of espresso. Although I appreciated the caffeine boost, I couldn't help but question whether it was indeed a double shot, given its limited quantity. Went here for a family wedding, the setting is beautiful and we enjoyed a lovely meal with very attentive service. The converted barn was beautifully laid out for the celebration. Couldn't fault it.

We just got back from a lovely meal at the White Hart. We visited the castle and the railway museum (highly recommend!) before heading to the white hart. We did not have a booking but the lovely hostess found us a nice table without any waiting time. The outside and inside of the pub is absolutely beautiful. there was more than enough on site parking when we were there and we managed to catch a beautiful sunny blue skies day. The interior is fitting, cosy and absolutely stunning. I was very unfortunate and was ONE TABLE late to be able to have the mussles on that day but the table next to us got the last portion and they looked and smelled delicious. I opted for the pate which was absolutely yummy. my partner had the pigeon dish which was truly out of this world. The combination of the carrots, potato rosti and the sauce with a perfectly cooked pigeon is something we will order again and again and again. as we went on a sunday they had their roast menu available and not their standard main dishes. I went for the stuffed chicken and my partner had the mixed roast of beef and pork. I normally never EVER would pick the pork over the beef on any roast but at the white hart the pork is the showstopper here, absolutely divine and delicious. The potato roasties are yummy although we had to add a little bit of salt to them. the cauliflower cheese comes at an extra charge but has the added bonus of mustard in the sauce which is unique and brings a really nice flavour to it. the gravy was one of the best we had, although not our number one. we shared the panna cotta which was perfectly wobbly and full of strawberry flavour. the accompanying cider sorbet was a nice pallet cleanser and the perfect end to a great meal. Drinks wise there are unfortunately no surprises on the beer front available, but the pub makes up for it with a more than extensive wine list. I had a great bottle of german riesling which had about a 100% mark up which stings but is normal these days and the wine was absolutely delicious. We had some issues with the service that I do want to mention. Everyone was nice but we had to ask twice for our tap water, we got offered some bread and then the butter was forgotten which we had to remind them of and our cauliflower cheese although I'm certain was ordered, was forgotten during our main and was a last minute re fire. none of this took away from the great atmosphere and the lovely time we had at the White Hart and we will definitely be coming back.

We stayed for 2 nights, we were upgraded to a 4 poster room, the walk in shower was excellent, the bed was like a marshmallow! Everywhere was spotless and comfortable, the food was absolutely perfect and the staff were brilliant 👏

Stunning venue not that far away and my first I was pleasantly surprised by the venue. A little hidden gem and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Also boasts accommodation which is great for weddings to help the guests sleep over a hang over after the reception.

Third visit in the last few weeks. It never fails to impress. The staff are excellent, they remember your preferences and take care of you. The food is delicious and varied, so all tastes are catered for. The grounds are delightful, so you can sit in the wooded garden or go for a walk. All in all a fabulous place to stay or eat or both.

Market day in Saffron Walden, always a busy day. Only problem was blue badge parking, not able to gain access to them, near the market square, where I wanted to go. Apart from that good selection of independent shops in town. There's also a large supermarket, Tesco, just on the outskirts of town. As well as a retail park with Aldi, B n M etc. Lovely to see the coffee shops busy, both inside and out, the sun was shining.
