Brown Castle in Portofino. During some excavations in the area, in the place of today’s castle were found traces of an ancient Roman watchtower dating back to the 3rd century AD. The fortress passed to the French in 1797, when Napoleon Bonaparte conquered it.

This whole town Portofino location definitely feels like a tourist trap; the value for money is poor. My advice for those who really want to experience Portofino is to take a ferry, snap some photos, and then move on, as the place seems to be overhyped. Interestingly, even the taxi drivers expressed concerns over the high costs associated with the beach, yet they charge 40 -50 euros for a mere 2 km journey.

This beautiful castle is a work of wonders in Portofino, Italy. It provides artwork, sculptures, fancy furniture throughout it corridors. Getting to the castle, there are beautiful glimpses and views of Portofino. Truly remarkable and unforgettable experience. Absolutely a must-visit. The castle is situated at the top of Portofino. It is reached by a slightly steep climb and stairs, but every step is worth it. The view from there is magical and a true delight for the senses. There is an entrance fee, but I don't remember the price. I wasn't impressed by the castle's architecture and interior, but there were interesting historical references and information. As I mentioned, the view is divine and must be seen.

As the closing activity of our holiday we went to Portofino. We visited Castello Brown… wow!!! That was mind blowing. It is a bit of climbing, but it worth the effort. The Castello Brown is located on the top of Portofino. The castle was built by the architect Giovanni Maria Olgiati. It has belonged to the Brown Family before. It’s a museum now and you can find some historical objects inside. And there is also a good view from the top to the Portofino Yacht Marina. The entrance is 5€ per person and there is a lot of stairs to go up.

If you come to Portofino and don't visit this iconic place you better just say that you never visited Portofino. 10 Euro worth spending for the best panoramic view across Portofino

This is the wonderful place and must visit when you arrive at Portofino. Just 10 minutes walk along steps and narrow alley with well maintaining to reach the castle and nice cafe at the top of the cliffs where you can see the whole city of Portofino. No admission fee.

Castello with a super beautiful view of Portofino - you should make the effort of the uphill walk😀 Extremely nice surroundings, full of greenery. However, interiors are very modest and there are only photos of famous guests or historic moments of Portofino in most of the rooms. Entrance fee is 5eur.

Overviewing Portofino from Castello Brown is perhaps one of the must-do while visiting the place. It has been 30 years since our last trip to Portofino and it is grateful that we revisit the place with a different prospective in life. A little effort of walking up the hills from the port, Castello Brown, 10 Euro per entry, offers some valuable history recap of the fishing village. Quiet and tranquility - a fine light strolling place including to the other end of the side - the light house.

Amazing but underrated place. We haven't met a lot of tourists (which is actually cool). The view is breathtaking. Just take a look at these photos and imagine yourself beeing there. My mind was blown. If you love the nature, I totally recommand !

One of the most beautiful places to swim. When I was there I had the pleasure to jump in the water and swim with a small school of fish. Everyone was enjoying there time, almost surreal.

A truly stunning park, on par with the Cinque Terre one, which one cannot avoid visiting during a holiday in Liguria. It comprises several well preserved paths, accurately signalled, which cross typical Mediterranean vegetation and lead to breathtaking panoramic points or beaches with clear water. The places I recommend above all are the war bunkers ('Batterie'), where incredible sunsets over the sea can be admired, the small rocky peninsula of Punta Chiappa, and the ancient abbey and beach in San Fruttuoso, where the famous underwater statue Cristo degli Abissi also is. The park can be reached by the train stations of Camogli or Santa Margherita: some paths start from these two towns, and otherwise it is possible to take a bus to either San Rocco or Portofino or a boat to Punta Chiappa and San Fruttuoso. If it's summer, take a swimsuit (and expect a bit of crowd in the most popular and touristic locations, San Fruttuoso and Portofino, especially on weekends). Refer to the website of the park for a detailed explanation of the paths.

If you are afraid of heights avoid the Coast route between S Fruttuoso and Batterier. This part is some times steep and narrow, and slippery when wet. Many different routes.

Very picturesque and quaint little town, worth a visit if you're visiting Liguria. It is a popular destination and caters more towards those with a bit more money to splash out so be aware that prices can be a little bit higher than other places in the region.

It's really beautiful, but not much for you here unless you're rich. My advice would be to ferry or hike to San Frutuoso or Camogli. Much better.

Portofino is isolated and beautiful. To go there you just need to take the boat from the small village of Margherita. 3 hours is necessary to visit the entire Village.

As much as it is discussed on here, you can’t actually see the sunset from any of the tables here it. The seats face SE and the sunsets to the W/NW. The prices are ok with a solid selection of drinks. Service is alright. My recommendation if you wanna watch the sunset around here is to grab some takeaway drinks from Portofino town and sit on the rocks 30 metres before the lighthouse.

First of all the view from this lounge bar is stunning! What a wonderful way to end our day out. We enjoyed a great Campari Spritz accompanied with nuts, crisps and olives and soothing music. Yes, they did cost 13 Euros each but you are up in the clouds sitting under a lighthouse! I'd love to see how they get all their produce up there! We will definitely be going again the next time we get the chance to visit Portofino.

View is great, place is dirty though. Also, we theorize the cafe is renting the space from the bees. Staff is kind and will make an effort to defend you while telling you the bees aren’t as bad as they have been in times past.

I recently visited a bar located on the point of Portofino, and my experience was a mix of positive and negative aspects. I opted for an Italian toasty, the name of the bread escapes me, topped with rather salty anchovies and tomatoes. Regrettably, the dish was not to my liking, leaving much to be desired. The tequila sunrise cocktail I ordered was passable, although it was evident that cheaper alcohol had been used. The waiter who attended to us proved to be incredibly rude, which put a damper on our overall experience. Nevertheless, there were redeeming factors to the visit. I had the pleasure of striking up a delightful conversation with some fellow Germans, which was a highlight of the evening. The view from the bar was nothing short of stunning, providing a picturesque backdrop to the evening. However, the prevalence of people smoking was a notable downside, detracting from the overall ambiance. As for the music, it was decent but didn't necessarily stand out. On a positive note, my partner's choice of a mozzarella toasty instead of the fish option was deemed okay, while her drink was exceptional. In terms of cost, the evening set us back around €50, which was somewhat reflective of the overall experience. Despite the drawbacks, the engaging conversation and breathtaking view did contribute to a more positive memory. In conclusion, the bar offered a mix of elements - from disappointing dishes and rude service to memorable interactions and scenic views. While it may not have been the ideal dining experience, it still left room for some enjoyable moments.

I would say, this bar is located on the edge of the Italian riverea and it has the most beautiful and breathtaking view. I personally suggest everyone to go visit this place. The staff were friendly and the drinks were on the top!!! And best part is, they have a super clean washroom up there omg ahahha🔝 Super good!!! Bellisimo!

Stunning view after a long walk

This was our most memorable experience in Portofino. We didn’t know what to expect when we blindly followed steps from the port. We ordered the light house drink, which was perfect. The ambiance was perfect. The earlier you go, the better.

Modern look on the exterior and traditional in its interior, this holy structure is positioned way up in a hill. It’s a good hike to get to it, but the scenery to get there is worth it and once inside it’s a magnetizing holy fortress.

When visiting Portofino take a few steps up the hill and enjoy the view over the village and the sea.

We had a 1 Hour boattrip with Andrea. The boat is so nice and traditional. He gave us a great view on the coast and showed us santa Margarita. He also tell us a lot about the history and some of the popular villas on the cliffs. Andrea is a great host and Skipper. He gave us a cozy and romantic feeling. Portofino is of course a special place, but to see the City from the water is just magical. We had a great Trip and would recomend everyone to join Andrea.

We spent a spectacular day with Lorenzo exploring the breathtaking coastline from Portifino to Camogli where we stopped to explore this quaint fishing village with crystal clear waters. Along the way we stopped for a refreshing swim surrounded by hundreds of curious fish and seagull. Lorenzo shared a wealth of information about the area along the trip. We stopped at Giorgio seafood restaurant in the quaint village of Liguria San Fruttuoso home to a pre XVII century monastery only accessible by foot or boat. Here we enjoy a delicious seafood lunch. Another hi lite was seeing the statue of God with raised arms submerged 17 meters into the ocean in honor of a scuba divers ❤️ Thank U Lorenzo & Andreas a memorable experience 🙏🏻🙏🏻

We had a truly amazing tour with Captain Lorenzo on his classic boat Portufin. Owner Andrea was able to accommodate us dispite some mixups on our part. Captain Lorenzo took us aboard and narrated a wonderful trip from Porto Fino to Camolgi and back. He pointed out the highlights of the scenery and of his wonderful boat. He was kind and considerate as well as a thoroughly capable Captain. I would highly recommend this boat and this Captain to anyone looking for an authentic experience.

We chartered a boat for two hours through Andrea and had the BEST DAY EVER!!! The boat is all cushy and you can move around easily, our captain/guide Gugliermo is a long-time diver and knows the area so so so well. San Fruttuosa, Portofino, Santa Margherita! The whole experience was “ottima” and not to be missed♥️🇭🇺👏🏼!!!

Great day on the water with Andrea. He was fun, entertaining and knowledgeable. We had originally booked a 1/2 day excursion with friends and went snorkeling. That was great We were in Camogli and looking at the monastery when my wife mentioned others we knew had eaten at Da Giorgio and we didn’t book the restaurant since we were unsure about the boat ride. Andrea unbeknownst to us called the restaurant and booked a table. He than told us we had a reservation if we wanted. Bravo. We ended up at the restaurant for lunch and enjoyed more boating for the rest of the afternoon. Great for us and good business and customer service.

Perfect day on the water with Andrea. My wife and I spend 3 hours on the water (from Portofino to Camogli and back). Andrea was extremely knowledgeable, fun and entertaining. Definitely recommend to anyone that wants to see the beautiful coastline.

10/10 experience would highly recommend. We rented some fins for a measly 2 euro each and enjoyed 2 hours of snorkelling, exploring the neighbouring beach and finding fish in the sea. The beach that outdoor portofino is located on is sand which is a huge bonus as well. Not only this we were able to store our luggage safely and have a fresh shower after our snorkelling at no extra cost. So so worth it and such a cheap day out!

We had a really lovely session kayaking and snorkelling with Outdoor Portofino. There were about 8 of us kayaking and 5 stayed to snorkel. Our guide, Manuel, came across as a real people person that loved his job. Interesting information on history, geology, ecology, wildlife - just enough for a holiday level fun family trip. We were impressed by the number of fish in the bay - it would appear the marine park is working - really really good news - lets hope others take note and follow. The email comms were excellent as well. The only downside was the loo was broken and they were trying to get it fixed. There are toilets in Paraggi bay, a few minutes walk. I would recommend going there beforehand just in case this happens again.

What an absolutely gorgeous part of the world to visit. I had seen Andrea Boccellis outdoor concert on TV, filmed in what appeared to be this quaint, beautiful Italian coastal harbour.. I had no idea at that time, that 9 years later I would get to visit the wonderful village of Portofino at the heart of the Italian riviera. I stayed in the centre of the fishing village in a well furnished and nicely decorated clean appartment, directly over a restaurant in the main square and for the week I was there I felt as if I was part of the village life. I would wake early and sit drinking my coffee and eating a delicious fresh croissant from 8am, when one of the two side street cafes would open. As I happily watched the village start it's day, you would see the same characters also start their daily routines. This usually consisted of the Captain of the coastguard, fully dressed in his smart uniform parading slowly down the cobbled street. the local police station was just on the corner and I couldn't help but notice a rather dashing female officer sporting a blonde ponytail who was a regular feature of the local pedestrian traffic. That's probably just me being my usual artist self, noticing these characters amongst the various delivery men and tradesmen moving amongst the palm tree edged village streets, flanked by exquisite Italian buildings with bright pastel shades of every colour. I absorbed the wonderfully relaxed atmmosphere, as this sleepy village prepared for another busy day of Italian village life. I visited towards the end of the season in October, so I think I missed the worst traffic of the tourist season, yet the weather and temperature of the air and sea was still perfect. This beautiful, picturesque fishing harbour was full of boats moored against a backdrop of brightly painted houses. The local restaurants served delicious, though quite expensive food and there was a wide choice of eating establishments from the popular Pizzeria to fine dining where the movie and pop stars have dined. The locally produced wines are exquisite. On weekends a few billionaires can be seen parking their super yatches in the harbour, as this is definitely a stop over for the super rich. The rest of us are quite happy to enjoy the wonderful ferry rides along the Ligurian coast to see Santa Margherita or the Benedictine monastery and beautiful beach of San Fruttuoso, which lies between Portofino and Camogli. Portofino has a small, but interesting sculpture park and the usual collection of gift shops, high end boutiques, jewellers and art galleries. Don't miss out on taking a fairly short walk to the Portofino light House where you can sometimes catch the dolphins chasing fish into the bay and catch a panoramic view of the exquisite coast line. The surrounding hills of Portofino are surrounded by small olive groves and vineyards and locally grown hops has resulted in the production of two very palatable beers. The fresh tomatoes, herbs, vegetables, fish, pasta and bread from this region add the extra ingredient to a perfect vacation.There are wonderful, fully stocked shops that sell everything of the best quality, they are situated by the main Cathedral in Santa Margherita. If you are self catering, my advice would be to buy your supplies there, or at least stock up before you head out, perhaps visit the home made pasta shop for a taste of Italy. The roads into Portofino gets busy, especially at rush hour and Italy is full of scooters busily zipping back and forth... Car parking is expensive and extremely limited in Portofino, so unless you have designated parking in the private villa you're staying in, my advice would be to park in a quiet back street in Santa Margherita and rely on the very regular bus servive that runs between Santa Margherita and Portofino. Another option is to cycle along the coast road or walk along the specially designed, well maintained coastal path that has guard rails and runs parallel to the road... Enjoy your visit to this spectacular part of Italy.

My kid spent a week in a nature camp there and in his words it was a best thing he did this summer. Staff couldn’t be nicer and more accommodating. While my son does not speak Italian, he was very comfortable attending, thanks to the instructors who put a huge effort in making him feel included in the team. Great place to rent a paddle board or kayak as well. Has changing rooms and shower to rinse off. They also do all kinds of group tours ( kayaking, cliff jumping…).

This place is very nice and beautiful. It is not have much place to swim. The building is very colorful. The water is so blue and clear. The city center is not big. It is a bit hard to find parking. It is better to come here with a boat, bus or mortocycle. You can park a car in the town before. This town has the scooter to rent which name is Mimoto. You can download app, it is very easy to use. I took a scooter from the town before about 10-15 minuites to Portofino. The restaurants around the coast are very expensive. It is better to go a bit inside the town.

This kayak tour was the highlight of our Italian honeymoon. A shoutout to Sara for helping us make it happen! It was actually thunderstorming two hours before our scheduled sunset kayak tour and we were notified that we would have to cancel, we were so bummed but decided to head over anyway just in case. Then the weather cleared up and it was so beautiful, maybe there was a chance we could still do the tour! So we met Sara and explained the whole situation and she really went out of her way to help us get out on the water. After lengthy phone calls, we finally made it out there and the Cinque Terrae is jaw droppingly beautiful. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. We got to see a small waterfall, drink wine and eat pesto foccacia, it really made our trip! Thank you so much Sara and Outdoor Portofino for getting through all of the issues and having us be able to enjoy the Cinque Terrae from the water.

The beach not too big. Suggest arrive early morning before 11am or after 3pm. Borrow the the kayak 15 Euro per hour. You could change swimsuit in their place, shower. But no toilet there.

The minor Basilica of San Martino al Monti is not imposing and appears very modest from its exterior, but so richly decorated interior. Very impressive and imposing interior with lavish golden textures and marbles, artwork and glorious stained glass windows. Built in the 12th century, this is Lombard-Romanesque style at its finest. It claims to possess an organ of 1679 by Tomaso Roccatagliata. It's well suited this impressive, exclusive piece of Italian Riviera, Portofino.

Beautiful and picturesque little port with an even better view from the hills surrounding the port. Pristine clean waters and lanes, laden with potted flowers and tiny shops make it a great place to visit. Plenty of restaurants & other shops for visitors to dine. I would encourage the eating of gelatino (icecream) as its simply divine

A must visit, best to travel by boat to it. Costs €11 from the other ports. The views are much better from the sea. Traveling by car is not recommend, the bus service is good and cheap but can be crowded.

Portofino maybe small but is such a pretty fishing village with so much to offer. Nice boutiques to look into and plenty of choices of bars & restaurants overlooking the water. You can stay here for the day...chill & watch the world go by or you can catch a boat that can take you to Margharita the next town or village ( however the Italians calls it 😊) to explore..either way both if these coastal towns are worth a visit when the wind takes you in this part of the world. I fully recommend to check these places

Exceptionally beautiful place, but seems a bit staged for tourists. Prices are ridiculous, but still worth to experience briefly.

Beautiful marine in Italy. Keep in mind that if you visit by car that the roads are small and parkingspaces are few (and expensive). Everything in the town is expensive but the marine is really pretty. Swimming is difficult. As a tip: walk up towards the hill next to the castle and then you will get a beautifull view of the marine.

What a DUMP!!! If you are interested in grumpy service AND a 16, yes 16 euro Campari spritz and a 4 euro half liter of bottled water, then this is your place!!! We were both offended and felt a bit abused and will NEVER return to this classic rip off joint. Caveat Emptor

Some would say pricy but definitely worth it from what I got. I got an organic homemade granita made of only peaches and ice which was easily the best I have ever tasted, I also got a focaccia al formaggio which tasted better every bite I took, and one of us got an authentic nicoise salad with high quality ingredients and it was extremely tasty! Our waiter was also the one who gave us these recommendations so if you want something guaranteed to be good here, just ask them!
