This is just amazing which is definitely on my top list of the castles. Very well organized, audio guide in details, reasonable visit routine with a lot of attractions. Even the kids can enjoy the whole tour which is not easy for sure. Highly recommended!

Touring this castle was one of my favorite activities on a two week adventure that was filled with amazing sights. Different from other castles. The self-regulated audio tour is important in understanding the history of the castle.

Very interesting castle and history with the included audio guide. There's a decent amount of walking up stairs and through the rooms, but it's evenly spaced with audio guide sections which are numbered to listen. The parking is average an consists of a paved area with about 50 bays. After this fills up, you park in a grassed marshy paddock which is a bit hard to get in and out once more people start coming. Other than that, good castle but make sure you get there early

a beautiful castle set into the side of a mountain.. the app we used for the castle tour was really good and gave lots of useful information during the tour. everything was clearly sign posted so we knew what we were needed to listen to. overall a wonderful experience- highly recommend this as a stop over on your travels

Absolutely magical place to visit. We got there in the later afternoon and booked an audio tour that leads you through the castle. Very informative and interesting information about such a unique place. Staff were friendly and views from the castle are spectacular. A must see when you are in Slovenia.

Amazing castle build in the rocks. Just imagine the work it should have been in the 13th century. The guided audio tour is awesome and gives you a lot of information. Book this together with the cave and your day is complete.

Absolutely beautiful castle surrounded by stunning scenery. It has a fascinating history. I recommend coming early because it can quickly get crowded. Also bring a hoodie and good shoes as it can get cold and slippery in the castle. There is a free audio guide app that is essential to the experience. You can download it near the entrance as there is free wifi for just that.

Incredible!! For those who like historical places and medieval stuff, this place offer all of this! We were surprised by the place and the high level of preservation shown. Even the kids - that were naturally skeptical of the place - in the end had so much fun and appreciated very much the place, with the support of the audio guide!

Wonderful visit, both caves under castle and castle itself. Luka was our guide for caves, well prepared and funny. Inside castle I found funny the soldiers around rooms that scary tourists.

This is just an amazing castle …. A dream place full of adventures and surprises in side … bring comfortable shoes and with some grip this place is natural wet … there is not lifts…. The castle is full of hidden corners that takes you to a nice natural cave. You need a car or a tourist bus to reach this place . You must pay for parking per hour. The castle is in the world Guiness records of the largest castle built on a cave. They have audio Guia in many languages. People were polite and nice. You must reserve in advance tickets if you don’t want disappointments specially during summer time.

Castle was amazing, absolutely loved it. Highly recommend booking tickets online and using your phone for QR codes. When you get the old part of the castle inside the cave, wow. The water capture was very clever. Would love to cone back for some caving here.

It was a great experience. I've never seen a castle inside of a cave. The history of it and the unique architecture that is part of it, are also great to listen to. Hard to imagine life over there that time but they did it. If you are somewhere around just turn here and you won't regret it. Nearby is also a small local pub with some local stuff. Thank you🤩

Great experience visiting this historic castle. We got tickets at the door as we visited in low season but I would suggest reserving tickets online to make sure you do not miss out!

Really nice castle built into the cave. The day we went was quite crowded and a bit overwhelming. However, this is not something you want to miss if you’re in town. Here you are given a self guided audio tour, offered in many languages. The castle itself is well curated, but be careful because the stair cases that are connected to the cave part of the castle are very slippery and many people fell. It’s best to go slow and hold on to the railing. You can access this castle by taking the free bus. This bus comes from the train station - bus station - predjama caves - to the castle. Check the website for the times.

One of the nicest castles i have visited. The castle is located inside of the rocks and that is truly a unique experience to see this. We had an audioguide and were very interested. In every room you can see old furniture, weapons and armour, ... At the end of the tour you'll go inside the rocks behind the castle. This was something i have never seen before. Really worth a visit. The lady in the gift shop was really friendly. (and there's a cat!!)

A truly amazing Castle with a beautiful view. It was very interesting listening to it’s history (they provide audio players). We bought tickets at the small shop when we arrived. If you visiting with babies make sure you have a carrier or just hold them. Lots of stairs (Castle is inside a cave basically). I cannot imagine living in those times in that Castle, it’s just amazing to picture everything in your head. If you are near by, make sure to make a stop here. Is worth the visit!

This medieval castle, which is the largest cave castle in the world, is still intact after 800 years. You'd wonder how they managed to attach a castle to a cave when cement, screws and drills hadn't been invented yet. I had an audio guide explaining different chambers/ rooms. Beware that there are many steps and uneven paths.

Stunning castle that is located in a cave and surrounded by a farming village. The place is definitely worth visiting when in Slovenia and takes an hour to get to from Ljubljana by bus. Worth noting a cab is needed from the Pastojna bus station to the castle. All the shops were closed as we went during off season.

We spent one night here - 2 people 1 camper car for 22,50€. WC and shower stalls are in the basement. There are also a cooking and a washing station available. Everything was clean but quite cold end of October. The bathrooms aren’t warmed up - and a little aged to be honest.

good camping, high up in the mountains, not new but maintained well. Cabins have everything you need, but not more. perfect for a few days, but would not recomend for longer than a week.

Very nice and cozy place. We stayed both in bungalows and in a tent and everything it's clean, it's a quiet place, people are very helpful: I was out of gas, and the guys from receptions solved my issue in 20 minutes! There are minor negative things but without relevance, so I will not point it out. A good breakfast each morning, 3 km away from Postojna Cave, couple of restaurants around. Also nice and clean pool.

This camping perfect for one night stay near Postojna Cave. The house was clean with a little bathroom. We had  plentiful and delicious breakfast. Fresh bread, hams, fried eggs, several kinds of cheese and vegetables. The forest is quiet and very cozy. Very nice place. Totally appropriate value for money.

They forgot us to tell we need to order bread for the next day. Great camping site in the woods. Restaurant ok, but not bad. Showers and toilets are old but clean. Perfekt located to visit the big cave of Postonja or even a day trip to Ljubljana.

We went here camping for three days It's a big campsite with a free choice of place. We found a quiet spot between the trees which helped us stay cool in the heat. The kids enjoyed the pool very much. I loved the quiet environment and I highly recommend waking up early to take the Pivka Jama and Black Cave tour at 9am. An extra compliment for the staff that is seemingly always present to clean, trim and keep an eye on everything.

Rating for bungalows only, I did not visit the camping area. Everything is super old, showers are clogged flooding the entire bathroom. Walls are damp and cold, buildings smell like mould and cigarette smoke. Beds and mattresses are probably 40 years old, squeaking and cracking with every move. However everything is very clean (as much as is possible with furniture this old), bathroom is clean and gets disinfected, sheets are clean and tidy. Service employees obviously give their best. Still wouldn't really recommend.

Friendly staff, keeping it simple, affordable camping, placed in a deep peaceful forest setting, very attractive locations for setting tent, basket and tennis playground, routes for biking and trekking..

We stayed in one of the stone huts which had a small (quite badly equipped) kitchen, a dinner table, a toilet and shower and a double bed downstairs and steep spiral stairs up to a mezzanine with 2 single beds. When we arrived there was a terrible smell of damp inside and black stuff on the walls. This smell slightly faded over the 3 nights we were there although when we opened the kitchen cupboards we got wafted with the smell and everything in the cupboard had to be washed again before we used it as it smelled so bad. Despite this, the place did grow on us and it would be quite a nice place it just needs a big revamp. The staff are very friendly and when we informed them of the issue they came down very quickly and offered us either a big discount or for them to move us to a place in the town as all of the other huts were occupied. They did say the damp was due to the floods and ours was the worst affected but the damp was clearly quite old. The forest campsite was very nice with a small clean pool, a basketball court, table tennis and tennis courts but you had to pay a lot to use the courts and they didn't have tennis rackets for people to rent. They had basketballs and table tennis rackets for people to borrow. The restaurant was nice, especially for one on a campsite, and had a variety of dishes. There were also the pivka jama caves on site but they were very expensive for small caves. We were also a half an hour drive from postojna Caves which were massive and amazing. You got a little train down to the centre of the caves then had an hour tour around them. Great activity for everyone.

Camping located 10 min away from Postojna Cave. It’s quite old (especially the bathrooms) and quite expensive for what it offers. The mini market is closed, the restaurant doesn’t look interesting at all. It was fine for one night but overpriced and if I new that we could sleep in our campervan at Postojna parking over night for half the price I would do that for sure.

the employees are very uncouth and make fun of people who don't speak good english. Are very interested in profit, not satisfaction. The restaurant is good. the bungalows not very hygienic. There could have been a broom or something similar in the bungalow, it got dirty unintentionally and no cleaning lady came, even if we stayed for several days.

We stayed 1 night in bungalow nr 22. This bungalow has serious moisture and fungus problems. We were idiots and should never have agreed to stay there. Our estimated life expectancy have now probably been reduced by 5 years. Our syay was originally 2 nights but we got out after 1.

I stayed here for two nights in a tent in May and I really love this campsite! The site is beautifully located in the forest and still had the forest feel. Lot of shade and options to choose pitches with some privacy. There are also many services available like a pool, beachvolleybal, basketball and tennis court. Restaurant has nice food and the people were really kind and helpful. Cave and castle also close by. And this all for a reasonable price. I would definitely recommend to anyone.

Nice campground with everything you will need. It is quiet and spacious. Bring some good stakes and a hammer as the ground is very compact and hard. Prices are around 15 Euros per person per night if you go there with a car and sleep in a tent.

We went with a camper, there are no set pitches so people stand wherever they like, meaning you pay 40 euros to park on standard parking lot. Make your self a favour and sleep in postojna cave parking lot, it costs only 20 euros. The camper services are very inconvenient and the camping shop is closed.

The fairly spacious campsite is beautifully situated directly in the forest and offers numerous tent and mobile home pitches as well as individual holiday homes. We really liked the forest atmosphere. The site includes a restaurant, a small pool and sanitary facilities that are a bit dated, but which were always clean. Unfortunately, the supermarket is closed. A big advantage is definitely the proximity to the "Postojna Caves".

Great place. Best cave i have ever seen. Tour was very well organised and informative. Train tour is great. Some of the formations are amazing to look at and story behind is great. It is pretty cold in the caves so get a hoodie to keep warm. You start the tour on a 20 mins train journey deep into the caves followed by hour walk around the cave. Guides are good but i suggest to use audio guide if you want more info on certain things and you do not need to worry about keeping up with the guide. Guides do not explain each point and the ones they explain are definitely in much less detail in comparison to audio guides. You need to ask audio guide when you purchasing your ticket. It was much quieter in the afternoon comparing to morning so if you want a quiet visit come after 2pm. We have also visited cave zoo with audio guide. Some interesting facts but it is very simple. Few insects and bits. So not much going on in this section. We bought tickets on arrival and pretty much straight into the caves without waiting. Number of restaurants and coffee shops just outside. All looked decent. Parking is available for any size car just outside the caves and cost around €10. Also there is a campervan park outside where you can park overnight for about €35 a night if you camping. Water and electricity available but pretty busy so you won't get a space for tables and chairs outside. It is only a night space for the caves. All in all it is a great day at the caves and highly recommended.

Ticket are expensive, and if you miss the ordered times you have to wait in line again. Parking costs extra and the toiletts are gross. Personal is incapable of quick ticket changes and you have to do the work.

Beautiful park at Slovenia country. Popular tourist destination as it has pretty nice sightseeing attractions (e.g. the cave, the castle). There are also restaurants and cafe at the park and is nice for families and kids. Water mills, river, trim gardens, picturesque scenery in general.

Put on some warm clothes before entering the cave! Its cold inside. A cool piece of history to be seen once you enter. I ate at a grill-restaurant before the tour and it was ok. Not ”wow” but surely okey.

Some very attractive dripstones, but the highlight for me was the vivarium. Went to Skocjan Caves a few days later, which totally blew me away, hence the 4* review.

Interesting museum where the formation of Slovenian territory is beautifully explained. The visit makes a nice combination with the route to the south as you understand how the landscape you watch was created geologically.

Easy walk from the train station. Almost everything’s in Slovenian and English. Helpful staff. Well laid out. Best to visit after seeing the cave for the background I think.

Contemporary museum, with great and comprehensive exhibitions from geology, fossiles, bones to cultural history heritage. Must se if you are interested into karst lands.

We booked the long tour and should be there at 10 AM. Arrived and then "Sorry, it was at 9, you can come back tomorrow! They had my phonenumber, emailaddress but didn't warn me they mad ea mistake!! 1 hour up and back driving for nothing and no plans for the rest of the day. So we did the 5 o'clock tour with a guide and a large group. Interesting, worth the money, but not our goal.

We did the long boat tour with 3 friends. We really enjoyed it! It was a bit physically challenging since we had to row most of the time, carry the boat and climb a little but the experience was definetely worth it! (But do take the physical challenge into account if you're less fit). We saw an incredible amount of human fish, bats and cave insects and the tour guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable! We went very deep into the cave, and doing that for 5,5 hours with a relatively small group really gave a different (and nicer) experience than most other caves I've been to in Slovenia We also got an icecream and powerbar which was really nice. I thought it was really cheap (we payed about 60 euros per person) for the amazing time we had!

Unique experience on the adventurous side. Not for those looking for a gift shop, as you have the entire cave system to yourself. The boat tour requires a good level of fitness as the 5-6h are not exaggerated. Well worth it and we had a great guide.

Beautiful place with a very experienced and helpful guide: definitely an experience for cave fans you can't miss!!! However, it's important that you're in good shape when visiting this place and are able to listen to quick instructions since you're on a (sometimes) quick river and rocky landscape so it's not for the faint-hearted. We were disappointed as the cave can’t be explored without a guide and it only runs on Saturday’s or Sundays for groups. Definitely worth the tour guide as an alternative to Postojna Caves and much cheaper. Make sure to plan your trip in advance to have the guide with you! The tour guide cost about 12€ per person.

My friends and I went to Planina Caves in Slovenia. Our guide Carlo, took us about 2km into the heart of the caves and gave us a very interesting summary of the history of parts of the caves. Also if the Olm, a Dragon-like Salamander which lives in these caves. I recommend booking in advance and taking the long tour with the kayaking inside the caves. Unfortunately we didn't know and we only booked the day before and our schedule was very tight. So we had to take the short tour.

Beautiful cave! There is a small parking lot nearby with toilets. The entrance to the first cave is free, but if you want to go deeper, you have to go with a guide.

An absolute highlight! We (two persons) did the long tour with the boat. First it was a bit hard to get a reply from the guides team but just call them and agree on a time and date. Carlo, our guide, is a bit younger and is slowly but surely improving the booking, too. Maybe insist they write down your phone number... But once you have arrive at the cave (parking a bit higher then the entrance on the right side, sign) you will meet Carlo, get your suit, helmet and lamp and a bag if you want to bring a camera, some snacks and a bit of water. I recommend this as your adventure in the cave might well take 6h. You then enter the cave and after a first section of easy walking, already seeing some impressive dripstones you will arrive at your boat. Paddling in the huge cave in the dark on the perfectly calm water, seeing the many human fish and impressive dripstones in the "dwarftland" is truly unique! But is getting even better once you arrive at the "Paradise" - it has it's name for a reason: the natural treasures fill the walls of the entire cave here and you will see the "Jellyfish", the "Octopus", and my personal favorite: the "Bacon"! The best: no fences, no glass, no masses of tourists. Just you in wild underground nature with a guide who will help you get around, make jokes, tell you fun facts and makes you feel safe. However you have to be prepared for some adventure with a bit of commitment to be 6h in the dark. So bring basic fitness and the right attitude. Thank you Carlo for showing us the cave!

Beautiful water cave which houses Europe's largest convolution of underground rivers. Inside this cave, river Rak from Rakov Škocjan joins with river Pivka from Postojna cave and together they form river Unica which then flows across Planina field and disappeares underground again.

This Tourist Information Centre is excellent. It is attractive with interesting locally made products. The staff are very helpful and friendly. I went there three times in two days. Thank you.
