Lovely place to visit. Very busy at the time, transport in was easy and an experience. Taking the funicular to the top was an experience and we would recommend going to the top of the second funicular. Amazing views and a nice walk back down. We went on the weekend and watching the local people make human stacks was really good to watch. Again, go early as it was getting very busy around Sunday mass time.

This is a very special place. Take your time. Go early, get your tickets to tour the church asap. Go to the top top top on the tram and spend at least an extra hour up there. You can spend hours hicking! This is a full day trip. Go to the bar at the train station while you wait. Great people!

I'd definitely suggest you to visit the monastery. Parking was €7 and it was easy to find and the entrance to the cathedral was €6 for adults and €5 for 7-16yo. Preferably buy tickets in advance. Take at least half day if not a full day trip here, sit on the bench and just enjoy the wiev and scenery.

We took the Montserrat Monastery & Hiking Experience. It was fantastic. Our guide Roger was the best. He did such a good job of explaining the history, the geology, and the nature. He even spotted a wild goat for us. Hiking was almost all steep downhill, so make sure you are in shape for that. Beautiful vista's. Bus was very comfortable and driver was very skilled. Great value.

For Catalans and in general for all Spaniards, Montserrat is one of the most sacred places, both the mountain and the Benedictine monastery itself. Apart from having interesting architecture and history, it offers a simply wonderful panoramic view of Barcelona and the surrounding area. And if you go up with the small rail lift, you will be able to enjoy a view from above and the monastery itself.

Plan for an early morning arrival to beat the crowds and enjoy everything Montserrat has to offer. The line to the Black Virgin is long, however the rooms and staircase you wait in are visual delights along the wait. Plan to spend 6-8 hours here and pack a picnic. The views are splendid and the gardens and paths are perfect places to eat and enjoy the views. Plan your return trip accordingly if you use the tram/train or you will get stranded.

What a beautiful location. It takes quite a bit of effort to figure out what the best way is to arrive, and it also isn't cheap. The chapel and the Black Madonna are interesting but by themselves wouldn't be worth the effort. If you also visit the museum and do some of the hiking, then it is worth visiting! This excursion took us most of the day.

This was spectacular and well worth the trip. The energy in this place is palpable, the design and architecture is really beautiful and the way it is nestled in the unique mountain is amazing. So much to do on the site that 2 hours did not suffice. I will be back.

I was expecting to enjoy this excursion the least, but it was definitely a highlight of my trip. We were able to watch the boys choir perform and their voices were incredible. The interior of the church is beautiful. My favorite part was taking a tram into the mountains and taking in the views. Some of my best pictures were taken on that mountain. 10/10 would recommend you visit the Abbey.

The view and backdrop are epic! We did not pay to enter the cathedral. The free access was enough for the family. The ride up is absolutely beautiful. Totally worth the visit.

This is a multiple visit place,. First to see it, then to hear the choir. Then to visit and pray to the Black Madonna. Then to train the mountains where the Romans once worshipped Venus. Then to sit on rock platforms in the area that cleanse your negativity. Then to visit the tunnel where the Black Madonna was found. Then to try the cheeses and honey. It's a pilgrimage for sure, one of the best of its kind!

The monastery is located in a very cool place. Parking costs €7. We didn't buy a ticket to enter the monastery, so we enjoyed the surroundings of the monastery. There are several viewing platforms and a large courtyard in front of the monastery, which is free to enter. If you are already going there, I recommend hiking in the mountains, the trails start at the monastery.

Truly spectacular. Speechless from the moment we walked in. There are many areas to check and take pictures. It’s a place of worship and you’ll need to be respectful and quiet. Book tickets in advance online and take them with you in your phone as they are timed entries. There are 3 Areas for the abbey, the main abbey, the side of the abbey when you can make an offering and the museum. All worth it.

The Montserrat Monastery is an awe-inspiring architectural wonder nestled amid beautiful mountains. The monastery is home to a 12th-century Black Madonna statue known as 'The Dark One' or 'Our Lady of Montserrat.' It's a famous local icon and a symbol of Catalan identity. During our visit, our tour guide informed us of Montserrat's world-renowned boys' choir and explained their training process in detail. We hope to witness their performance in the future. We decided to skip the museum since we had already visited all the famous museums in Barcelona before arriving here.

Very beautiful cathedral. Lots to see and very mosaic. Beautiful choir was playing that has a long history of beautiful music. You can spend hours here just taking everything in.

Visited on a foggy day and it was beautiful, not too hot. The views are gorgeous, both architecturally and scenery wise. The buildings are so beautiful, and we luckily went on a day where it wasn’t too busy. The bus ride up the mountain to get here was a bit windy, so be cautioned if you get carsick easily. Other than that, it is a beautiful sight to visit, would recommend

A long day to and from Barcelona. The Black Madonna is beautiful. The scenery to and from Barcelona to go there are awesome. It takes a couple of hours to arrive, visit takes several hours then ride back another couple hours. We were exhausted. We were exhausted once we got back, but it was worth the trip.

I had lovely weather on the day to the Montserrat and enjoyed the magnificent view from the mountain. There wasn't much crowd as the tour started early and it was great for photos and appreciation of the monastery. It was good advice to queue to see the Black Madonna first as the queue is usually long. It was terrific and I'm glad to see the Black Madonna at close proximity.

You'll want to spend more time than you have. We spent three hours here and were barely able to take in the highlights. The Abbey, of course, is stunning inside. And the views from the mountain are picture perfect. We did a short hike but definitely wished we could have spent more time and hiked farther and explored some of the other buildings here.

One of our favorite stops during our visit to Barcelona. Highly recommend the Tot Montserrat ticket: it includes absolutely everything you need-train, funicular, cable car, museum, basilica, and return. The buffet lunch is amazing with items for every taste. We hiked to the top of the mountain and saw the small chapel and caves. The view is spectacular. The cable car going down from the monastery offered beautiful views too. Don’t forget to stop at the little bar by the train station for a drink and ice cream. Such a relaxing spot nestled in an olive grove. The proprietor will not let you miss your train, though I could have stayed to enjoy the view for hours! Highly recommend this incredible day trip from Barcelona.

I decided to leave a review here because I want to give others more specific information ;) the place is definitely worth a visit. religious, natural, climbing a mountain - an incredible feeling and its own atmosphere. definitely recommend. from Barcelona, ​​you can first take the metro to Plaza España, where you can take the P5 train. then there are different options - going up the mountain by cable car or funicular. it is better to go by funicular (more seats, more comfortable and convenient). you should not confuse the station yet, because you need to get to the station earlier to take the cable car. I recommend buying a ticket for 45 euros at the station before the train. there is a return train, funiculars. you can still go even higher up (this is another funicular and it is included in the price). this ticket is called Trans Montserrat. also included is the entrance to the Basilica and the Black Madonna. you have to pay separately for the museum. 20-30 minutes will be enough there, there are paintings by famous artists. there is also a cafe with a buffet (like 2 of them), affordable and fast. if you climb even higher, mountain lovers can climb even more on their own. that's why such reviews are highly recommended, you also need to pay attention to the departure time because funiculars and trains run once an hour.

Get there early. You can park along side the road and at the top is additional parking if you go early. Parking is 7 euros. Make sure you go straight to the guest information center. You'll be able to purchase all tickets here except the incline, which has its own ticket sales area.

Amazing. This is a bustling centre of commerce and faith in what should be a somewhat inaccessible location - a mountaintop. It has lovely art, clean and spectacular vistas, and clearly has been a planned investment by the residents. Well worth the visit.

Absolutely stunning ! Beautiful monastery and Basilica almost 1000 years old. Home to Black Madonna or Black Mother, a representation of Virgin Mary. The top of the mountain is accessible via a funicular that has a max gradient of 65 degrees.

Monserrat It's very beautiful, it's interesting the rock formation And to think that the sea used to be up there. A recommendation is if you want to go up to San Juan or something like that, don't go up on the train (unless you are sick) what I recommend is to go around the mountain and go up to the viewpoint and then get off on the train or on foot which is the same and better. The view is amazing and of course you also get some exercise.

This place is simply magical and mesmerizing! At SKY level altitude between unique rocks set, this is definitely a place to go. The location is about 90 min from Barcelona, but the train system will take you there with only one switch to the monorail that takes you to the mountains. Inside, there is a place to chill, to eat, to pray, and to hike. If you go with a tour, you might not have time for the hikes, but everything else will be ar reach. There is also (at a separate cost) a small little train that takes you from the monastery to the top of the mountain.

A little to commercial for my taste. We caught the ques just right, so the lines were not that long. We didn't purchase a guided tour which would help if one doesn't know the history. We purchased tickets through turism barcelona and would need to add tour guide if desired. Hiked around the top and the views are amazing.

We got on the Sant Joan funicular service as the other one was not in service and we were glad we did. As one goes up, you have great views of the Monastery with the surrounding topography becoming so evident. Can get a bit busy and you might have to jostle around a little if you are keen to take pictures but it's nice all the same. Safe, well maintained. Entry fee applicable. Credit cards accepted. Recommended.

For tourist, a must ! We went on Friday early September so the queue was not so long. Look back through the glass roof ! The upper station leads to a spectacular viewing point and a short walking trail. A pleasant relaxing experience this of the year.

We had some extra time during our tour of Montserrat. So glad we rode the Funicular de Sant Joan to the top. The funicular is just over 1,600 feet in length and takes a swift six minutes but is still the steepest funicular in Spain. It’s thoroughly modernized now but has a history dating back to 1918. It’s enough to get your adrenaline going a little if heights unnerve you. But just grab a hand of someone and enjoy the ride. Atop, if able, I recommend you take one of the walking paths a little ways. The views across the other side of the mountain are beautiful.

When you go to Montserrat, you really should hike around the mountain trails. That being said, the mountain is quite steep, so it's much nicer to hike *down* than up. The funicular railway is a pretty neat way of getting to the top! The whole trip takes about 10-15 minutes, and the car itself is interesting. Like everything else, the sooner you get to it, the shorter the line is to go up it. There's only one bathroom at the top and it's a unisex, so if you need to use the restroom, I'd recommend doing so at the bottom.

Great views from the funicular. Easy way to get up the mountain without exhausting yourself from the start of hiking. Giving it 4 stars because there are only 2 funiculars and we had to wait over 20 minutes. Views were incredible from the top of the mountain.

This was my 210 visited museum and easily one of my favorites. If you would like to digest all the art works on display properly, I would suggest to allocate 4+ hours. The Museum of Montserrat showcases a selection of the most outstanding artistic and archaeological heritage at the thousand-year-old Abbey of Montserrat. The museum contains six very different collections. Entrance cost was 8EUR and no queue for tickets. Visited during week time so maybe it is busier during the weekend but definitively not a museum to miss. Could easy rate the art display at a 5+ stars, easily compared to Rijksmuseum in Netherlands.

Fantastic art museum. We paid 7 euros each. We chose not to take up the audio guide, and we feel that we didn't miss out! It was a wonderful collection with some world-class artists, including Dali, Miro, and Garavagio (something like that). At the time, there was also the an exhibition of Picasso posters!

One of the best museums in Catalonia. Escape the tourist rush and long lines in Barcelona and visit this museum for some great art work from Spanish artists. Their collection on realism style is truly amazing. Artists have focused on nature and human portraits for the most part. The level of details in some of the paintings is just mind-blowing. There is audio guide available for the museum. You can also see a mummy from Egypt there.

Well I knew it wasn't nothing like Prado o Louvre, it's a small museum in the mountains. But after seeing it from inside I can only say What a shame I spent 8 euros for this. Just to bear in mind, Prado costs 15 euros, and there you will see dozens if not hundreds of first class works. Here you will get a bunch of not the second class but the third class works of mostly Spanish/Catalan artists. Yes they have a couple of names, but neither that Dalí nor Picasso didn't worth a visit. (The temporal Picasso exhibition neither.) In addition, many labels wasn't even translated, or didn't have a date (see fotos). The major part of the explications on the walls were in Catalan only. Honestly, I can hardly recall one more museum which would be so negligent and disrespectful towards the visitors. That said, again, it charges 8 euros, half of the price of Prado. (And if you are unemployed they give you... no discount.) Nevertheless, I'll say it's two stars experience and not one because both security persons we talked to were nice and willing to help. And because they have an amazing collection of icons, mostly from Russia and a bit from Greece. But again, no explanations in English or at least Spanish on the walls, only Catalan, and just a couple of very laconic labels for each 20 icons on the wall. Dear Museum, being a museum means not only expose what you have physically but as well to explain it, I mean every object must have a description, and must have it in all the official languages of the region plus English. Especially if you have so many foreigners coming each day. Shame on you, if you would have charged 2 euros for this I would say Oookay, but 8??!

It’s a nice little gallery with some big hitters on the walls. Admittedly for me the best thing about this (with a 9-month old in early July) was the air conditioning, bliss. Well worth the €8 entry. Joking aside it’s a good addition to the walk around the church.

I enjoyed the visit a lot. Especially that I was the only visitor ( I went right after they opened, in the morning on 23rd of December). The only disappointing thing was that Caravaggio's painting is currently in Milan.

I like the mix of sacred and secular works. For instance, just outside the room with the Byzantine icons you see statues of female nudes! (Google won't let me post them.) When we were there we saw an amazing temporary exhibit of posters by Picasso. I very much enjoyed the "modern" section (mostly 19th century with two Monets, a Renoir and a Sisley) and the Renaissance room with the breathtaking Magdalen by El Greco. There is also an impressive collection of Egyptian and Babylonian artefacts.

Despite being a conventional museum with artwork, painting and sculptures, they had arranged everything in an enjoyable way. There were a lot less people in this part of Montserrat which was unusual but regardless, if you are a fan if mid century paintings then it is worth the visit

Seriously underrated museum. The collection is so well curated with really quality pieces of art. Make sure to check out Ramon Casas’ La Madeleina and Antes del Baño — new favorites I discovered!

The museum is worth every penny. The entrance fee of 8 euro provides an excellent value for money. The art offering is amazing, from paintings, sculptures to Middle Earth artifacts and religious objects. There was also a special exposition of Picasso event posters which was very interesting to see. The building is modern with different accessibility options. The free Montserrat app also covers the museum.

Wonderful hike from Santa Maria monastery. Bring extra water and food, and check the weather forecast. Start early.

Montserrat is a multi-peaked mountain range near Barcelona, in  Caralonia, Spain. The main peaks are Sant Jeroni, Montgrós and Les Agulle. Montserrat is an excellent place to visit and it has lot of scenic View points. All heights give different look from all directions. It also provides an opportunity for hiking. Quite easy climb to the top. the worst is the first 30 minutes, then the road is easier, less steep. great view, we were there during the week and therefore not many people. definitely worth it.

Nice little hike with beautiful views, and you can even see parts of the Pyrenees! It was an absolutely beautiful way to spend the afternoon and I highly recommend it. Some of the timings on the sign posts seemed inaccurate and there is no distance posted, though.

Worth the walk up from the Monastery. Quite steep in parts but bad steps. Not that difficult though. Amazing views and paths are quite well maintained.

Awesome hike from Sant Juan Funicular. Catch the funicular from Montserrat Monastery and start walking towards the right from just outside the funicular station. It's almost a 4-5 kms hike. It's a failry easy hike of around 1 hour and only gets a little tough when nearing Sant Jeroni.

It was one of the best day trips I have ever had. It took just an hour by train from Barcelona, then you can take funicular all the way up to the monastery. The view from the mountain is breathtaking. The monastery is big and nice to explore around. After visiting the monastery, you can take a hike around to see the monastery from distance.

Absolutely breath taking. The cable car is a little bit scary if you don’t like heights, but the trip is totally worth it for the views. We took the train and guided ourselves on a tour, through some research I did in advance. Highly recommend.

The rock formations are impressive. The views are fantastic. If you are not joining any tour, 2 hours is more than enough for pictures and maybe a snack/meal.

Amazing place for a day trip. You can reach the top by cable car, which runs at regular intervals (for those who are afraid of heights, I recommend closing your eyes during the trip), there is free parking. You can see the church up there, there's a cafe, a gift shop, and you can also take an easier walk in the woods.

Beautiful mountain and ornate monastery. We did a tour which worked out perfect as it included a tasting of liquor and some of their delicious sweet bread (which we then bought 3 more loaves of). For the 2 hour round trip drive and the cost, we left feeling somewhat underwhelmed. If you can take full advantage of the hikes and take the funicular up to the top, it'd kick it up a notch.

Beautiful mountain in Spain with a huge monastery on top, plenty to see including going to the top of the mountain which is not difficult. We took the steps that lead right to the top. You can drive, cycle or take a bus up, to the main part of Montserrat which is what we did it. I mean photos just do not do this place justice! It really is very beautiful.

Actually the best place to visit in North- East Spain. Definitely trip for whole day. And i really mean from the very morning till evening. Especially when walking all around the mountains. The monastery looks just picturesque! But there are many things that are worth seeing not only monastery. A lot of hidden places that require some walking up and down. Really not much that needs to be said about this place. It's beautiful. Visiting Montserrat is a perfect way to compliment a visit to Barcelona by getting out of the hustle and bustle of the city. Save time to take the hike to the lookout. The cathedral is beautiful.

Worth it! We thought it would be a good idea doing this on our own by train lol. After 3 hours going back and forth trying to get off the train, the struggle was well worth it. The views are unbelievable, the hikes simple enough and enjoyable. I recommend you do this with a tour company ;). The ride on the cable car was beautiful. Breathtaking views.

We decided to walk up and the estimated 1hr45 was accurate and had lovely views with plenty of shade with the ability to refill water when we got to the top. You can buy food but it's expensive so we carried it up.

What an amazing monastery, couldn’t be happier that we decided to make the day trip here; was definitely worth escaping the busy city and making our way to this lovely mountaintop monastery. There is lots of parking. A hotel, gift shops and restaurants, there are gondolas that take you even further up the mountain for a few; would highly recommend visiting if your in and around the Barcelona area.

It’s a must visit place for those who are going to Barcelona. It’s just 1 hr by car or taxi. It’s also accessible by train and bus. If you are there you must try the buffet restaurant and it’s worth it for 20 euro. You will have 5 course meal. Try the funicular service also but the service is up to 5 pm so plan your trip. Montserrat is also a perfect place for adventure enthusiasts.

Worth the visit! There are a few walking trails and a great cultural experience. We joined Barcelona Experience Tours and spent half a day here. Really nice to get a short break from the bustle of Barcelona.

Unique place and unique way of getting there (cable car). Food options were limited and honestly not much to do other than hike around. It was nice though that visiting the virgin was free.

The place is very beautiful with its nature. You can hike in the mountains and enjoy the meal in local restaurants with an amazing view. But the parking was full and it took time to park the car.

This is such a gorgeous place to check out - the views are incredible. You can enter the monastery, shop for local cheese at the market, or hike the mountain - there’s something for everyone. They also have local produced liquors which you can do a tasting to sample.

Great views going up. The audio guide is helpful and the cathedral is beautiful. Would recommend taking a day trip here. We arrived after 4pm and it was not busy. Took the cable car on the way down and the views were great.

Very beautiful monastery on a mountain top, the exterior architecture and interior architecture are stunning. It’s quite a trip to get here, they have a gondola that takes you up to the top ever further. You will not regret visiting this place. I would definitely recommend checking it out.

Beautiful scenery and location. Must visit. We waited for at least an hour to take the cable train up the location. However. The wait was worth it. Beautiful way to spend the day. Plan for a day to take it all in. Recommend day time. It’s will be money and time well spent.

A must-place to visit when you are in Barcelona. Only an hour by train from the city. The place has a stunning view from the top. They also have an easy hiking track around the mountain. After that, you can come to enjoy your meal in their restaurant zone with an amazing view. The place is very organized and clean. You can get to the top by cable car( around 5 mins) or Rack railway (around 15 mins) and after you reach there you can take the Funicular to the top of the mountains.

Beautiful place although our tour guide was terrible and besides seeing the basilica we didn’t do much - not a single thing recommended in the guidebook when we checked later! So go on your own if you can.

This is a wonderful place to visit. We initially planned. To book the trains and the train to the mine start on our own, but many who we spoke with recommended we go with a package deal - it would make the trip more enjoyable. We went with CastleExperience and had Lorena as our tour guide. She was awesome. After a 55 min comfortable bus ride, we ended up at the train station taking us to the top of the it was a quick but incredibly scenic 15 minute ride. The Bascila, Monestary and all of the walking paths and hiking routes take you to into beautiful landscape, architecture and nature. Seeing the black Madonna was a highlight as well. We will come back but spend more time Hiking and taking our own time together n this peaceful beautiful location.

A pleasant day trip by 2 train from Barcelona. First a tour of the monastery, museum and ride to the funicular. Second a nice hike along well marked and maintained trails but would take more than a day to cover to the top and lot of strength. Definitely an amazing day trip from Barcelona! Visited Montserrat mountains in Spain, and the experience was truly breathtaking! The unique rock formations create a surreal landscape that's unlike anything I've seen before. We enjoyed the walk from Montserrat Monastery to The Holy Grotto. Walking distance: 1.5 km Difficulty: low The Montserrat tourist guide says that this was St. Michael's path. Great areas of interest along the way.

This was a more intense hike than I thought! The chapel is small and sweet with a small replica of the Black Madonna, but it wasn't super exciting. Be aware of the effort that you'll make to get here!

Great walk!! All paved but quite a few steps - not for wheelchairs. The vignettes along the way to the chapel are really beautiful, and it's almost like a Via Cruces kind of thing. Take your time to enjoy the amazing views!! There was no restroom at the chapel (at least there wasn't when we arrived) so be sure to go at one of the cafes before you start your hike. (There is a turnoff for Collbató where it looks like desperate "pee-ers" have gone before, as it's hidden from view just down the path, but better to go before!)

A really short 25 minute walk TOPS from the monastry! The route was walkable albeit hilly and rocky. There were bins and walls to rest on in case one got tired. The view was lovely and a definite must do for anyone visiting Montserrat.

Worth the trek, beautiful sculptures on the way and the chapel at the end feels special. We took the cable car which saved the steepest part. All in it was a little over an hour from the cable car start at Montserrat (10 mins) and then about 45 mins of walking there and back.

Very beautiful monastery on a mountain top, the exterior architecture and interior architecture are stunning. It’s quite a trip to get here, they have a gondola that takes you up to the top ever further. You will not regret visiting this place. I would definitely recommend checking it out.

A serene and beautiful place. The walk along the cliffside path is easy and offers some of the best views of the Valley. The Santa Cova Fenicular will take you towards here from the Montserrat village. Found the "TransMonstserrat" ticket easy for rides on all the Montserrat Fenicular and Rack railway.

Could not reach the cave. We took funicular from monastery to caves which was just 2 minutes ride. After getting down from funicular we walked mins but did not reach the caves. The walking path is good but very tiring. Fenicular ride was useless because there is lot more to hike.

Very pretty views and cute buildings. Very religious and not very vegan friendly… If you have good legs and just want a quick look, you have 30min to go and come back for free - hard to do but not impossible (my partner and I made it with a few minutes to spare - running a bit of course).

An amazing trip out of Barcelona and well worth a visit. This place looks beautiful in photos but it went well above expectations. The walks around this mountain are great

Quite nice for what it is. We drove there and it's only an hour away from Barcelona. Nice change of landscape being on top of the mountain at 1200m. There are plenty cafes and also a shop at the top. Relaxing experience for a short city break.

A beautiful monastery with a few easy hike spots. The start of the main trail is just behind the information centre.

A wonderful short trip to a small church. It took us 1 hour there and back without stops, but at a medium walking speed. You get some nice views of the monastery from the side and bottom. I can recommend it. There are quite some stairs and a part of the way is steep.

Visiting this place was an incredible but tiring experience. You have to walk up and down stairs to get there for around 30-50 minutes. I suggest taking your time, mainly because it's very tiring, but also because it has beautiful views along the way. P.s. I happened to leave my number on the side of the mountain where there's a lot of scribbling from other people. Give me a call if you want😆

Tati is the most vibrant tour guide we have ever encountered after many of this similar tour. She is just lovely. 5 stars! She made great efforts to make sure we understood the history. She brought tools, like maps and posters to guide us. Wonderful experience!

We had an incredible tour of El Barri Gotic with our very delightfully enthusiastic, remarkably knowledgeable, and flawlessly fluent in English guide Natalia. Natalia summarized the history of Barcelona in a concise, comprehensive and captivating way. She pointed out all the relevant sites and even made wonderful recommendations on how to make the most out of our visit here. (“Immerse yourself in the fabulous food and flamenco culture.”) She even advised us on how to avoid the touristy overpriced areas and restaurants and guided us to the more authentic and delicious “locally preferred” taparias. Natalia was a gem of a guide.

Did both tours and can recommend them to everybody. Personally, I liked the Gothic Tour even a bit more. You will learn a lot about the city, it's people and the culture. Furthermore, the tour guides are always willing to help with hints and recommendations. At the end, you pay what you think is appropriate. If you stay in Barcelona, it's definitely a good idea to join the tours!

It was one of the best day trips I have ever had. It took just an hour by train from Barcelona, then you can take funicular all the way up to the monastery. The view from the mountain is breathtaking. The monastery is big and nice to explore around. After visiting the monastery, you can take a hike around to see the monastery from distance.

Absolutely breath taking. The cable car is a little bit scary if you don’t like heights, but the trip is totally worth it for the views. We took the train and guided ourselves on a tour, through some research I did in advance. Highly recommend.

The rock formations are impressive. The views are fantastic. If you are not joining any tour, 2 hours is more than enough for pictures and maybe a snack/meal.

Amazing place for a day trip. You can reach the top by cable car, which runs at regular intervals (for those who are afraid of heights, I recommend closing your eyes during the trip), there is free parking. You can see the church up there, there's a cafe, a gift shop, and you can also take an easier walk in the woods.

Beautiful mountain and ornate monastery. We did a tour which worked out perfect as it included a tasting of liquor and some of their delicious sweet bread (which we then bought 3 more loaves of). For the 2 hour round trip drive and the cost, we left feeling somewhat underwhelmed. If you can take full advantage of the hikes and take the funicular up to the top, it'd kick it up a notch.

Beautiful mountain in Spain with a huge monastery on top, plenty to see including going to the top of the mountain which is not difficult. We took the steps that lead right to the top. You can drive, cycle or take a bus up, to the main part of Montserrat which is what we did it. I mean photos just do not do this place justice! It really is very beautiful.

Actually the best place to visit in North- East Spain. Definitely trip for whole day. And i really mean from the very morning till evening. Especially when walking all around the mountains. The monastery looks just picturesque! But there are many things that are worth seeing not only monastery. A lot of hidden places that require some walking up and down. Definitely my best place in Spain.

The best day trip if you’re visiting Barcelona. It is absolutely stunning and a lot of the sights there are free (apart from parking). Me and my partner loved it! We will definitely come back if we return :)

Really not much that needs to be said about this place. It's beautiful. Visiting Montserrat is a perfect way to compliment a visit to Barcelona by getting out of the hustle and bustle of the city. Save time to take the hike to the lookout. The cathedral is beautiful.

Worth it! We thought it would be a good idea doing this on our own by train lol. After 3 hours going back and forth trying to get off the train, the struggle was well worth it. The views are unbelievable, the hikes simple enough and enjoyable. I recommend you do this with a tour company ;). The ride on the cable car was beautiful. Breathtaking views.

We decided to walk up and the estimated 1hr45 was accurate and had lovely views with plenty of shade with the ability to refill water when we got to the top. You can buy food but it's expensive so we carried it up.

What an amazing monastery, couldn’t be happier that we decided to make the day trip here; was definitely worth escaping the busy city and making our way to this lovely mountaintop monastery. There is lots of parking. A hotel, gift shops and restaurants, there are gondolas that take you even further up the mountain for a few; would highly recommend visiting if your in and around the Barcelona area.

It’s a must visit place for those who are going to Barcelona. It’s just 1 hr by car or taxi. It’s also accessible by train and bus. If you are there you must try the buffet restaurant and it’s worth it for 20 euro. You will have 5 course meal. Try the funicular service also but the service is up to 5 pm so plan your trip. Montserrat is also a perfect place for adventure enthusiasts.

Worth the visit! There are a few walking trails and a great cultural experience. We joined Barcelona Experience Tours and spent half a day here. Really nice to get a short break from the bustle of Barcelona.

Unique place and unique way of getting there (cable car). Food options were limited and honestly not much to do other than hike around. It was nice though that visiting the virgin was free.

This is a perfect place to visit for those who wants to escape the busy city! Higly recommended! We hiked going up and it was amazing-definitely worth the sweat and tiredness after the hike! Just beautiful and peaceful!

very beautiful, the (optional and free) hike up was challenging at times but super fun and definitely worth it. there is an entire village at the top, which in some ways takes away from the beauty but it’s a nice place.

The place is very beautiful with its nature. You can hike in the mountains and enjoy the meal in local restaurants with an amazing view. But the parking was full and it took time to park the car.

This is such a gorgeous place to check out - the views are incredible. You can enter the monastery, shop for local cheese at the market, or hike the mountain - there’s something for everyone. They also have local produced liquors which you can do a tasting to sample.

Beautiful scenery and location. Must visit. We waited for at least an hour to take the cable train up the location. However. The wait was worth it. Beautiful way to spend the day. Plan for a day to take it all in. Recommend day time. It’s will be money and time well spent.

A must-place to visit when you are in Barcelona. Only an hour by train from the city. The place has a stunning view from the top. They also have an easy hiking track around the mountain. After that, you can come to enjoy your meal in their restaurant zone with an amazing view. The place is very organized and clean. You can get to the top by cable car( around 5 mins) or Rack railway (around 15 mins) and after you reach there you can take the Funicular to the top of the mountains.

Beautiful place although our tour guide was terrible and besides seeing the basilica we didn’t do much - not a single thing recommended in the guidebook when we checked later! So go on your own if you can.

Wonderful place for hiking, climbing, or simply relaxing while enjoying beautiful landscapes. Moreover, it's very close to Barcelona (about 40km), and there's a train that will drop you off nearby. Highly recommended!

This is a wonderful place to visit. We initially planned. To book the trains and the train to the mine start on our own, but many who we spoke with recommended we go with a package deal - it would make the trip more enjoyable. We went with CastleExperience and had Lorena as our tour guide. She was awesome. After a 55 min comfortable bus ride, we ended up at the train station taking us to the top of the it was a quick but incredibly scenic 15 minute ride. The Bascila, Monestary and all of the walking paths and hiking routes take you to into beautiful landscape, architecture and nature. Seeing the black Madonna was a highlight as well. We will come back but spend more time Hiking and taking our own time together n this peaceful beautiful location.

A pleasant day trip by 2 train from Barcelona. First a tour of the monastery, museum and ride to the funicular. Second a nice hike along well marked and maintained trails but would take more than a day to cover to the top and lot of strength. Definitely an amazing day trip from Barcelona!
