Such a beautiful station! Like an art gallery! There is even a light show. However, the surrounding shops are mostly closed when I visited in Dec 2022. Otherwise, it would be a very packed station.

This has to be one of the most beautiful subway stations I've ever been to in my life! The lights are mesmerizing and there's a light show every evening. We got there at 7.15pm just in time for all the lights to be turned off and the boulevard was transformed into an interactive light show. Also, lots of people just come here to snap a photo and leave but do take some time to walk under the dome ceiling to take in the artwork inspired by horoscopes.

The station is a three-level, underground station with an island platform and two side platforms. It is located at the junction of Jhongjheng and Jhongshan Road and has 11 exits. The Orange Line station is 334 metres long, while the Red Line station is 209 metres long. The station is known for its "Dome of Light", the largest glass work in the world. It was designed by Italian artist Narcissus Quagliata. It is 30 metres in diameter and covers an area of 2,180 square metres. It is made up of 4,500 glass panels. The dome will be offered as venues for weddings.

Pretty but underwhelming if it's global 2nd place for most beautiful subway station.

Beautiful dome worth of visiting the station just to see it. Arrive at the station and check the signs for the "Dome of Light". If you time your visit during low traffic hours (*) you will be able to enjoy the view and take nice pictures. * We visited at 18 of October 2023, around 16:30-16:50 and the place was almost empty, considering the population of Kaohsiung.

Worth to make a trip to enjoy the decorations inside the station.

There are 16 pillars and 2 core pillars supporting the giant piece of art work in the station. It's design is inspired by Italian and master craft build in Germany, Mexico, Italy. There are 4 types of glass, blown glass by murano, fused glass by Mexico, antique glass by Germany, fusible glass supplied by Oregon USA. It signify light, wind, fire and light. This is a master piece which takes many craftsman effort to put together. Every panel is colorful with design base on the 4 theme. Should visit if you have the time.

The best ever subway station i have visited

It's definitely one of the coolest station to see in Kaohsiung. The colourful and shining dome is so beautiful that you'll forget about the time when you see it and end up taking lots of photos.

An ordinary MRT station made beautiful by the colourful frescoes on the ceiling. There is also a pianist here at certain times of the day. Good, fun atmosphere when u r taking the trains. Don't need to make a special trip down to see it.

Famous night market. Not too crowded on a Saturday night. Pretty decent with various foods. There are a few highlights like a stand selling handmade dumplings ( which I didn't try ). Worth a visit if you're in town

Good spot for food and games. Not too many varieties in terms of stall offerings. The night market is closed off only for pedestrians and a lot safer than some other markets. It is also a lot cleaner compared to other markets I've been to and doesn't smell!

The largest and most popular night market in the city and located central to many attractions and hotels. It has a few unique items compared to other night markets such as the egg pretzel (not worth it) while having some of the mainstays of the Taiwan night market scene (sweet potato balls were a little stale though). This night market is clearly focused on attracting tourists, so if you want something a bit more authentic, try one of the smaller ones in the city.

Good night market. This market is not big but enough size to enjoy food. Good access from central area. Subway is just next to market and Kaohsiung train station is also close. Due to corona, not many shops open as before. Hopefully market will recover as before covid .

Yummy night market!!!! I love this place - it’s spacious and clean, and the food here is really good. I particularly enjoyed the soup dumplings and prawn egg pancakes & the grilled mochi. The handmade 牛轧糖 was a true highlight - buy your souvenirs here! Besides, the walkway is huge, so you can take your time to look through the different stalls. Check it out!

Vibrate night market with a decent variety of food stalls. The highlight for me was definitely the HUGE grilled squid. Absolutely delicious and great value! Besides the food stalls, there are the usual shops and some games too. Definitely worth visiting.

The road that this night market on is wide, so it’s quite spacious vs the usual night markets in Taiwan. Many options, we took 3 nights or so to try everything we wanted to try. I added captions to my photos for the food! The vendors are also nice and polite. Seating is available for some stalls. Our hotel was near this street which was nice bc didn’t that many public toilets.

A night market by the roadside, the road is closed for the night but there are motorbikes weaving in and out of the night market. Quite quiet on a Friday night but most of the stores are open. There are not many repetitive stores and the prices are reasonable!! Recommended to go!

The night market is situated within 10 minutes' walking distance from the Formosa train station. It is not a big night market but has some good stores, especially for nonvegetarian lovers. There are few stores for vegetarians and vegan lovers. The night market comprises food, games, cosmetics, and accessories stores. The night market has a public washroom and an information service center for tourists. It is usually crowded on weekends.

A rather scattered night market but it offered a good variety of food. Had a delicious lemon flavoured jelly and a great tasting bitter gourd/pineapple/honey concoction. Going back for more of it tomorrow.

Not many stalls in this night market. Friend told me that many stalls owners have changed to new job. The dumpling stalls also has requirement if dine in. Need to order minimum pieces of dumpling and soup. So we take away, no dine in. Nothing special here.

This Night Market is popular in Kaosiung city. We tried Local food and dessert .All is good taste and cheap . Every one was nice and friendly .Moreover, the market has over 100 food stalls lining both sides of Liuhe 2nd Road. Some vendors have their own seating but others are food carts. But if there are a few tables and chairs along the middle of the road if you need to sit down and eat. Tourists can sample many types of Taiwanese food including fresh seafood, oyster omelette, dumplings, and fried chicken.

I went after the typhoon and the rain was coming and going, so not many stalls were open. I still loved the variety and I like this market cause it’s spacious and it didn’t feel crowded. I’d only avoid the oyster pancake place - the one done on a large hot plate. Queue was long so I thought it would be good. Turns out, it was just disorganised, girl took my order and had me standing there for ages while everyone else got theirs especially people who ordered after me. When I finally got it 20 min later, it was sloppy and drenched in a bland sauce. Was not worthy of my time at all!

Not too busy when I visit here. Looking for a Muslim friendly food or vegetarian food here. Luckily there's one Turkish Halal Certified vendor. It's really good. Nearby Formosa Boulevard MRT. Exit 1. Just 4 minutes walk

This night market is spacious as it occupies two sides of a wide road which is closed to the main traffic. There are a number of typical night market stalls with a number of them providing tables and chairs for diners. I had papaya milk shake ( NT60) from one stall and, glutinous rice ( tainan style NT 45) and pork porridge ( NT 80) from another stall with tables and chairs. They are delicious and fulfilling. There are other stalls selling sausages, fried beef noodles, crab porridge, thai style banana pan cake, crispy chicken etc. Usually on weekdays, there is not much foot traffic but still worth a visit.

Great night market with lots of food selections. The market is packed with local people especially during weekends. We enjoyed some of our favorite foods here. The ambiance is good and the people are just friendly and nice. The price is also not expensive. Surely you can shop around and pick anything that comes up your way as you walk down to the end of the street. It is also a walking distance within 15 mins especially for those who stay close to Kaohsiung station. Make sure you come and visit when you're in a nearby area. I would definitely come back when there's a chance.

I actually enjoyed this Night Market very much as there are a lot of food options besides the usual fried stuff commonly found in other Taiwan night markets. Recommendations include: 1. Seafood porridge 2. 葱油饼 (Scallion pancake) 3. Teppanyaki Fried Rice (Chef is bald and has a beard, the store should have a long queue) 4. Dumplings (staff may be unfriendly but the dumplings are really good) 5. Papaya milk (store pictured below) The papaya milk is thick and refreshing with no added sugar. If you prefer something sweeter with more milk, do try the other stores instead. 6. (地瓜球）Sweet Potato Balls and （盐酥鸡）Fried Chicken They are 2 stores side by side with the same owners. The sweet potato balls remained crispy even after they turned cold and the fried chicken was not too salty.

This is one of several night markets in the city. The place is interesting to visit, and everyone can touch the local way of life and culture. There is mostly a wide selection of food that should be chosen more carefully. Unfortunately, these markets over time are losing their authenticity as they start to become more of a tourist destination, and this contributes to losing the emotion of being there. Overall, i recommend visiting the market.

We really enjoyed our time here. From squid, sweet potato balls, Taiwanese sausage of course, sugar cane drink everything was fresh and nice and not too crowded. Seating good, bins conveniently placed and the vendors were very nice. Throughly recommend.

It’s a very good night market though it’s not a very big one. Location is easily accessible. Most of the stall owners are nice and friendly. Food is yummy and cheap. Many stalls have tables and chairs to serve customers. Rubbish bins are also easily located.

First time at A Taiwanese night market. Nice selection of food, mainly seafood. A lot of different versions of squid. Nicely presented.

The temple and monastery are situated in a big area with major two parts, one part is dedicated to the Lord Buddha's temple with a museum, restaurants, and a park, while another part is a shrine, lodge for travelers, monastery, and a temple of lord Buddha. The temple and a monastery are good and spiritual places to visit free of cost. They have a vegetarian buffet which is well managed by the temple priest and it cost 150 per person. They also have Starbucks and many more stores. A big parking space is available. It is one of the tops tourists place in the city and highly recommend. But don't rely on public transportation, it is poorly managed by the government. It's better to rent or bring your transportation.

I thought going here would be for an hour to walk around, but I ended up spending over 3 hours here. There is so much to see and learn about here if you are interested in the history of Buddha. There was a 3D movie to watch also which was interesting to learn about the life of Buddha. Heaps of volunteers everywhere who are very informative and love to answer questions and teach about the facility. It was a really great experience.

The surrounding areas are very interesting, peaceful, and huge. It’s quite difficult to go here using public transportation. There is bus but need to check the schedule. At first I thought I will finish within 2 hours. But surprisingly, 1 day is not enough if you really want to discover all. There are several vegetarian restaurants with nice meal and affordable price~ Worth to visit although you are not Buddhist~

Such a beautiful place to explore and learn. Highly recommend! It is easy to get to as there is an express bus to the museum. However, keep in mind that the bus back to the train station has scheduled times and they are pretty far apart (the line gets really long as well). We tried to take the other buses back to a different station but the bus driver didn't allow us to.

Good place to visit. You will get to know about the history of Buddha as well as this famous architecture. There is delicious vegetarian buffet which is unlimited, a good options for vegetarians. Also, I visited a tea house which is inside the temple. Staff is friendly here. But you have to take care of your own conveyance because public transportation sucks nowadays in Taiwan. It’s better to book a taxi or rent a scooter. Place is worth to visit.

Such a beautiful and peaceful place. From the museum to the monastery there will be quite a lot of walking, but it's so worth it. We also enjoyed lunch there at the vegetarian buffet. Tasty dishes and very reasonably priced. We visited on a Friday morning so it wasn't crowded and there is a lot of parking available. Of you're in Kaohsiung it is a must see. Highly recommend 👌

Beautiful museum full of artifacts. You can learn more about Buda and his life. All very interesting and appropriate for everyone in the family. We watched a 3d video, I would recommend people who organized this to add at least English subtitles. I could know about the story behind it because my partner translated for me.

This place is a must see! Although it is a bit more difficult to visit by tourists who do not have organized transportation Fo Guan Shan Buddga Temple I would visit it every time I come to Taiwan. It can be reached by Shuttle bus, at a price of 12$ twd. As well as bus number 8010, which travels a little longer. These buses are reached by the orange line, which helps to get around the city itself. One way journey takes about 80 minutes. Otherwise, the temple itself is impressive, huge, created with a lot of thought. It radiates calm and infinitely good energy. As soon as you arrive here, you will be captivated and without realizing it, several exciting hours have passed. I had a wonderful emotion here. I recommend that you come too

Read online they have a Buddha tooth, not sure if they actually do though. I’m a strong believer in pics or I didn’t happen and they do not allow photography in that part of the museum… Also, it happened to be in a crystal ball 40 feet up in the air so it’s not like I saw it with my eyes either. Probably totally real, though. Several staff members took special interest in us, and gave essentially free private tours where they practiced their English and explained everything. Was given some sage advice while there that I will share with you all now, “ you came a very long way to get here sit for a while and absorb the tooth energy”. Plan for several hours at the museum, and then add another hour or two just to be safe and allow for more tooth time.

This place is very nice with great story and history behind. It's beautiful and mesmerizing with the Big Buddha. However the transport to this place from Kaohsiung is actually good but it is better if they had bigger bus or more bus for people who wants to go to Fo Guang Shan from Kaohsiung. As we need to queue early if we want to take the bus from station. If not then you need to qait for quite a long time. Overall all is cool !!!!

It seems like a huge Buddhism themed park with many things to experience including hi-tech. Everything is well managed but most staffs cannot speak English except the nuns but they are friendly and helpful. The weather is super hot on March and the location is far from city. The bus has limited seats and I missed 2 buses as full. No standing like city buses. You can share the taxi with others which costs 150$, but if no one else, it charges 800$ :(

Can't really recommend this place. It is incredibly exhausting to get there and away from it again. Public transportation sucks to say the least. Buses run when they want, times are kept to zero. You waste your time. Better a guided tour, with 2 hours and private bus. There is not so much worth seeing. Lots of Instagram backdrops. You learn something about the history but in the end not really spectacular.

Beautiful museum! Stop by and walk around to get some AC and look at the unique gifts you can get! Lots of seating inside and small snacks and drinks inside! We came at the perfect time! Parking wasn’t bad since a lot of the people were from tour busses. There is a parking lot sign for you to follow!

It's quiet and peaceful place. It has lot of artifacts related to Buddha and Buddhism. It's has handicap friendly ramps, walkways and lifts. A lot of parking space available, clean toilets. Please wear appropriate clothes as a respect.

That's a great place to find peace if you have no religious concern. I spent whole day there but not really visit all the pagodas. I definitely will come back again if I manage to visit Taiwan. I will consider to get a night or two stays in their facilities.

Huge place to explore. We spent over 5hrs. But if u have limited time, just visit the Museum side (where the big Buddha is). There lots of volunteers to guide you and explain more about the place and history… vegetarian meal (buffet) at Level 2 at 150NT. There is also a restaurant and Starbucks at level 1. You need 2hrs at this museum compound alone.

Very well organized and nicely layout of the surroundings Coming out of the welcome center you are in awe of the gigantic Buddha that can be seen from a distance Statues around the area are well worth stopping to see and photograph Inside main museum is very informative and clean Temple inside does not allow photos but a monk was nice to explain history of the gold Buddha statue inside that was Thai interpretation. Would be back to visit next time in Taiwan

Divine place, you will feel peace and experience the buddha presence during visit. Will need a minimum half day for walking around the museum and photo shoots. Get the map from the information center and walking around will help in understanding more about the place. Must try the vegetarian buffet lunch at a very affordable price in the museum entrance.

Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum is a massive retreat dedicated to the practice of Buddhism - chronicling the history and for tourists and enabling the local monks and visiting Buddhists to further their religion. The main building features a plethora of exhibits from a golden shrine to the Jade exhibit with one of three Buddha relics in the world to a 3D movie theater. The main shrine interior includes auditorium and access to outdoor balcony. Highly recommend a visit for both non-Buddhists and Buddhist practitioners alike as the area is very serene and peaceful. Open to public / no tickets required

Located at KaohSiung , very magnificent architecture whether you are Buddhist or not. It will take you about 15-20 minutes to walk towards the great Buddha , if you want to tour around the whole place you probably needs 2 hr. At the entrance of the place, there are shops and even Starbucks. It’s listed as the no.4 biggest Buddha in the world at 36m.

while the ferry was convenient to get to Cijin, there really isnt much to do on the island. i would have preferred to stay in Khaosiung and explored the city proper instead of spending a whole day here. i would avoid Cijin as a tourist next time.

Port boarding costs 30ntd to and from Cijin ferry station. You can ride with your scooter but with a different price, i forgot. For persons with disabilities, the price is 15ntd. The trip is only 10 mins or less. You get to see the harbor and take beautiful photos. Near both ports are so many ice dessert places!

I miss Qijin, the weather was nice during December, can walk slowly and enjoy the slow moments. The view near the beach was amazing!

Ferry ride to Cijin Island take you only 5 mins.The regular one way fare is 40 NTD$. Lower deck is reserved for motorcycle and rider. Upper deck is for passengers. It's a spectacular expencience to cruise across the harbor.

I'm really impressed with the night scenery in Kaoshiung. Theres even birds resting below the bridge as you can see. Theres even a cycling pathway, and pathway suitable for jogging and walking. The light tram rail also crosses this bridge to the right. A must see place if you visit kaoshiung.

Best to go at around 5 p.m. until night so you can see the day-like and night view of the bridge and cityscape

Good scenery, the wind blows nicely. Many benches, bridges. Good place to jog or run or cycling. Not noisy, great place for "me time". But unfortunately, no free wifi.

This river is very long, there is a small night market located on one side of the river, but the goods sold at the night market are very expensive. if you visit at night then there will be a fountain and laser show coming out of the mouth of the dragon statue in the middle of the river.

Great place to come in the evening. Just hop on a ferry boat ride and enjoy the night skyline of Kaohsiung. It's definitely more of a tourist thing to do, but with good reason! You get a large overview of Kaohsiung and the guide will point out landmarks and places worth visiting! Note: Visited prior to COVID, so things may be different.

A nice walk along the river at night. River smells a little bit. But lights are pretty.

Dragon and Tiger towers are tall and have yellow,red,and orange color.A zigzag bridge connects the towers to the shore.There are paintings inside.The towers have a spiral staircase.Overlooking Small Tortoise mountains, spring and autumn pavilion, 5-mile Pavilion as well as a surrounding lake. Per Heather’s request, we took the high speed train to Kaohsiung to explore the dragon & tiger pagodas. The Dragon and Tiger Pagodas is a temple located at Lotus pond in Zuoying District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The temple was built in 1976. One of the towers is the Tiger Tower, the other one being the Dragon Tower. Both towers are seven storeys tall and have yellow walls, red pillars and orange tiles. A zigzag bridge connects the towers to the shore. There are paintings inside the temple depicting Ksitigarbha. In the Tiger Tower, there are paintings of twelve Magi and the Jade Emperor's thirty palaces as well as paintings of Confucius. The towers have a double spiral staircase, one each for ascending and descending visitors Despite its remodeling, it’s still open to public. It’s hard to tell these towers have been built >40 years. We had great time & explore more on nearby scenes.

Beautiful scenario. Two pagodas of traditional Chinese culture where you can learn a lot from Taiwanese religious aspect. You should come in the dragon's mouth and exit from the tiger's so as you get good fortune. You can go to the top of the pagodas where you can have an amazing view of the lake and the city. It's a must go in the city.

Actually, the place is quite simple but the lotus pond is a fantastic refresher amid a hot and humid summer. It also brings back to me the fond memories of my childhood. The fragrance of lotus flowers and old lotus leaves in a hot summer day is a gift from heaven! Just relax and enjoy the breeze. This place is not about seeing something but experiencing a zen moment for yourself.

A must visit in Kaohsiung. Looks big from pictures but the pagodas are adequately sized. Well maintained and beautiful area! Easy access with local bus. Please bring mini fan or umbrella and maybe mini towel cuz if the weather is hot and nice, you’ll sweat buckets. It was 34c when I went there at 9-10am. No tickets, free entrance!

Main attraction in Kaohsiung. Some stores and shops along the pond but not huge variety. This pagoda is currently in construction/renovation. No lotus during aug when we visited. Look quite dull. We tried milk tea nearby but was not good

Unfortunately, we arrived on Oct 5th right when the temple was being renovated, hence we were unable to visit inside. The pagoda is located in a large lake area and nearby there are other big statues for you to freely take photos of. There is also a park area nearby, so it is quite ideal for an afternoon stroll along the lakeside to admire the scenery in the pure air and cool breeze.

11 Oct 2023 Visited cause it's one of the main tourist attractions! Sadly, the dragon tiger pagodas are still under renovation. Since I rode a bike there from the nearest train station, I decided to loop the pond after checking that it's only about 3+km. If you're not with ample time to spare or interested in temples and pagodas, I think can give this place a miss. Bike is the best way to get there as buses are not very frequent. Free entry. Please remember your sunblock!!

Under renovation but you can still enter the dragon mouth and exit the tiger mouth. However, climbing up the 2 pagodas is not possible. Renovation may end by Feb 2024 but please verify yourself. Recommended time to spend here is 30min. Can skip if time is tight. There's a small free car park across the road.

Sadly the pagodas are currently (Jan 2024) being renovated, I think it could be beautiful but currently not so amazing from the outside 😅 inside is quite impressive, and the lake is fun to bike around

Very impressive place to check out for the culture and architecture. Too bad a portion of it was under renovations as of Dec 2023 but there's still lots to see. Turtle and lotus pond were cool as well.

I loved this place so much and we ended up visiting it twice during our trip. By day, you can really see the intricate details of the Pagoda and the Dragon and Tiger. At night, the lights give you an entirely different kind of vibe. The area is perfect for watching birds and wildlife as well we saw various birds and ducks, swans and even plenty of turtles during our visits. There are also street stalls and restaurants in the area. There's a bus that goes here from the city center and/or the High Speed Train Station Zuoying. Highly recommend visiting this place!

This is the place that you must not miss when visit Kaohsiung. You will walk to dragon-tiger pagoda and the opposite aitebis temple. Then we can walk around for soght seeing

A popular tourist site in Zuoying District, Kaohsiung City. There are lanterns here during the Chinese lantern festival（元宵節）. You can take a walk around the big lake , or even try some water sports here. Besides, you can take the TRA, depart at Neiwei Station（台鐵內惟車站）, and then walk here for about 10 minutes.

We think its beautiful tgere. We went there for the lantern festival in kaohsiung. And it is nice there. Many different cute lantern around the lake. And the location is not far from city centre. And there are many food stand there as a night market. We think its cool there. They make beautiful and comfortable there. Hope visit again next taiwan trip

A must go place in Kaohsiung. A lot of culture temples and pagodas with street food around. The most beautiful when the lotus flowers bloom.

One of my favourite places in Kaohsiung. One can easily spend there whole afternoon here! Each temple was unique and had lots to offer. The lake was beautiful and created such a nice great calming vibe. Just keep in mind this is a very touristy area so it might get congested in some areas !

Love the walk around the pond. Which is about 3km. Plenty of space for training ( bicycle or running) a couple of Taiwanese and Western style restaurants. Confucius temple close at 5pm.

Not sure to whom this place is targeted but for me, this was quite a miss. The pond is nasty with tons of garbage and upside-down dead fish and turtles. There are a few tacky temples around the pond that look more like a disaffected theme park from the 70s. Not sure what the appeal is but if you're not into ... that.... then skip this place.

This place is just breathtaking with its many beautiful temples, statues and pagodas, and it is all free. You can feed the fish and sea turtles, get luck by venturing through the dragon mouth and out through the tiger mouth. You can get amazing pictures. What's not to love?

Main attraction in Kaohsiung. Big pond with many colourful temples and pagodas. Some stores and shops along the pond but not big variety. The main pagoda is currently in construction/renovation. No lotus during aug when we visited. Look quite dull. We tried milk tea nearby but was not good.

It's a pity that the "Dragon-Tiger Tower" is still under construction. However, visitors can still enjoy walking inside to see the mural paintings, which I find quite interesting. Unfortunately, access to the towers themselves is restricted. During the Lunar New Year period, there are markets around the area, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

I can walk up to the pier, tap my card for payment and be on the ferry within a minute! (If the ferry is on the dock, which happens half the time during the main hours) I loved the convenience, smooth and efficient loading the motorcyclist and passengers and the short 7min journey across the short channel. A must try when you are in KaoShiung!

Fortunately no crowds when I visited. If traveling on foot, look out for the passenger waiting room sign (walk through a sort of archway). TWD30 pp or TWD15 if over age 65. No change given if paying cash. Ferries departing every 8-10 mins during the day.

Quick, inexpensive and fast, the ferry to Cijin gets us to the island loads faster than if we drove. You can walk, bike or scooter across. Very easy and accessible.

It was a great experience indeed! I highly suggest that you must experience to ride at their ferry. Aside from it's the arrival and departure is on time, you can also bring your motorcycle or even your bicycle on it. Affordable rate and hassle free.

It is very convenient that you don't have to wait too long for a ferry. But if you are going to Cijun island, be prepared as the black sand is very hot and no shelter is provided for. So take your own umbrella.

Easy to use with helpful signs. There is nothing worth visiting in Cijin (from a tourist perspective) but the ferry ride is beautiful and gives you a different view of Kaohsiung. Pleasant ride with sea breezes.

Not the cleanest, but you’re not on there very long. Cheap (NT$40 per person). They have ferries about every 5ish minutes. It’s a 5 minute ride to the island. Fun experience if you’re visiting the island for the day!

A place to catch the ferry to Cijin island. There are some amazing views of the city skape and skyline of Kaohsiung on the way. The ferry is convenient and easy to use, and also a lot of fun.

This ferry station is the starting point to reach Cijin Beach. Frequent ferry service available. The station is spacious and free. People used to transport their vehicles to the nearby places.

The jetty to go to Cijin. Nothing much here, very basic jetty. The ferries can take in bicycles, electric bike or scooters so you may rent one before going to Cijin. You can pay for the ferry using ipass or easy card, very convenient.

The temple and monastery are situated in a big area with major two parts, one part is dedicated to the Lord Buddha's temple with a museum, restaurants, and a park, while another part is a shrine, lodge for travelers, monastery, and a temple of lord Buddha. The temple and a monastery are good and spiritual places to visit free of cost. They have a vegetarian buffet which is well managed by the temple priest and it cost 150 per person. They also have Starbucks and many more stores. A big parking space is available. It is one of the tops tourists place in the city and highly recommend. But don't rely on public transportation, it is poorly managed by the government. It's better to rent or bring your transportation.

I thought going here would be for an hour to walk around, but I ended up spending over 3 hours here. There is so much to see and learn about here if you are interested in the history of Buddha. There was a 3D movie to watch also which was interesting to learn about the life of Buddha. Heaps of volunteers everywhere who are very informative and love to answer questions and teach about the facility. It was a really great experience.

The surrounding areas are very interesting, peaceful, and huge. It’s quite difficult to go here using public transportation. There is bus but need to check the schedule. At first I thought I will finish within 2 hours. But surprisingly, 1 day is not enough if you really want to discover all. There are several vegetarian restaurants with nice meal and affordable price~ Worth to visit although you are not Buddhist~

Such a beautiful place to explore and learn. Highly recommend! It is easy to get to as there is an express bus to the museum. However, keep in mind that the bus back to the train station has scheduled times and they are pretty far apart (the line gets really long as well). We tried to take the other buses back to a different station but the bus driver didn't allow us to.

Good place to visit. You will get to know about the history of Buddha as well as this famous architecture. There is delicious vegetarian buffet which is unlimited, a good options for vegetarians. Also, I visited a tea house which is inside the temple. Staff is friendly here. But you have to take care of your own conveyance because public transportation sucks nowadays in Taiwan. It’s better to book a taxi or rent a scooter. Place is worth to visit.

Such a beautiful and peaceful place. From the museum to the monastery there will be quite a lot of walking, but it's so worth it. We also enjoyed lunch there at the vegetarian buffet. Tasty dishes and very reasonably priced. We visited on a Friday morning so it wasn't crowded and there is a lot of parking available. Of you're in Kaohsiung it is a must see. Highly recommend 👌

Beautiful museum full of artifacts. You can learn more about Buda and his life. All very interesting and appropriate for everyone in the family. We watched a 3d video, I would recommend people who organized this to add at least English subtitles. I could know about the story behind it because my partner translated for me.

This place is a must see! Although it is a bit more difficult to visit by tourists who do not have organized transportation Fo Guan Shan Buddga Temple I would visit it every time I come to Taiwan. It can be reached by Shuttle bus, at a price of 12$ twd. As well as bus number 8010, which travels a little longer. These buses are reached by the orange line, which helps to get around the city itself. One way journey takes about 80 minutes. Otherwise, the temple itself is impressive, huge, created with a lot of thought. It radiates calm and infinitely good energy. As soon as you arrive here, you will be captivated and without realizing it, several exciting hours have passed. I had a wonderful emotion here. I recommend that you come too

Read online they have a Buddha tooth, not sure if they actually do though. I’m a strong believer in pics or I didn’t happen and they do not allow photography in that part of the museum… Also, it happened to be in a crystal ball 40 feet up in the air so it’s not like I saw it with my eyes either. Probably totally real, though. Several staff members took special interest in us, and gave essentially free private tours where they practiced their English and explained everything. Was given some sage advice while there that I will share with you all now, “ you came a very long way to get here sit for a while and absorb the tooth energy”. Plan for several hours at the museum, and then add another hour or two just to be safe and allow for more tooth time.

This place is very nice with great story and history behind. It's beautiful and mesmerizing with the Big Buddha. However the transport to this place from Kaohsiung is actually good but it is better if they had bigger bus or more bus for people who wants to go to Fo Guang Shan from Kaohsiung. As we need to queue early if we want to take the bus from station. If not then you need to qait for quite a long time. Overall all is cool !!!!

It seems like a huge Buddhism themed park with many things to experience including hi-tech. Everything is well managed but most staffs cannot speak English except the nuns but they are friendly and helpful. The weather is super hot on March and the location is far from city. The bus has limited seats and I missed 2 buses as full. No standing like city buses. You can share the taxi with others which costs 150$, but if no one else, it charges 800$ :(

Can't really recommend this place. It is incredibly exhausting to get there and away from it again. Public transportation sucks to say the least. Buses run when they want, times are kept to zero. You waste your time. Better a guided tour, with 2 hours and private bus. There is not so much worth seeing. Lots of Instagram backdrops. You learn something about the history but in the end not really spectacular.

Beautiful museum! Stop by and walk around to get some AC and look at the unique gifts you can get! Lots of seating inside and small snacks and drinks inside! We came at the perfect time! Parking wasn’t bad since a lot of the people were from tour busses. There is a parking lot sign for you to follow!

It's quiet and peaceful place. It has lot of artifacts related to Buddha and Buddhism. It's has handicap friendly ramps, walkways and lifts. A lot of parking space available, clean toilets. Please wear appropriate clothes as a respect.

That's a great place to find peace if you have no religious concern. I spent whole day there but not really visit all the pagodas. I definitely will come back again if I manage to visit Taiwan. I will consider to get a night or two stays in their facilities.

Huge place to explore. We spent over 5hrs. But if u have limited time, just visit the Museum side (where the big Buddha is). There lots of volunteers to guide you and explain more about the place and history… vegetarian meal (buffet) at Level 2 at 150NT. There is also a restaurant and Starbucks at level 1. You need 2hrs at this museum compound alone.

Divine place, you will feel peace and experience the buddha presence during visit. Will need a minimum half day for walking around the museum and photo shoots. Get the map from the information center and walking around will help in understanding more about the place. Must try the vegetarian buffet lunch at a very affordable price in the museum entrance.

Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum is a massive retreat dedicated to the practice of Buddhism - chronicling the history and for tourists and enabling the local monks and visiting Buddhists to further their religion. The main building features a plethora of exhibits from a golden shrine to the Jade exhibit with one of three Buddha relics in the world to a 3D movie theater. The main shrine interior includes auditorium and access to outdoor balcony. Highly recommend a visit for both non-Buddhists and Buddhist practitioners alike as the area is very serene and peaceful. Open to public / no tickets required

Located at KaohSiung , very magnificent architecture whether you are Buddhist or not. It will take you about 15-20 minutes to walk towards the great Buddha , if you want to tour around the whole place you probably needs 2 hr. At the entrance of the place, there are shops and even Starbucks. It’s listed as the no.4 biggest Buddha in the world at 36m.

Plenty of seats with variety of view and settings for readers to choose from. A small English book collection can be found on the 5th floor. I spotted many interesting ideas from the library to engage readers. The basement library has a wide selection of picture books for young children.

It's a nice place to browse newly published books and periodicals. When you take a break from reading, be sure to visit the roof area. There's a bridge path to a tall building in the back. You can skip that part if you don't feel like walking over the bridge, as there's nothing exciting going on over there.

The Main Kaohsiung Public Library offers an incredible space to read, learn, and hang out. The library space is unique in so many ways - the rooftop garden offers incredible views of the city skyline. There are multiple books to read, work on your project, or just nap. There are exhibitions, activities, and all kinds of other things going on almost daily. It is an incredible space

Main city library. B1 floor has a huge childrens library. Very large library. Some english books, especially in the childrens section. Several restaurants are in the building. The top floor is dedicated to a treed observation deck that has a great view of the district.

Not only good looking from the outside, but also inside is the great atmosphere which has natural light on sunny days. Enjoyed magic hour on the rooftop floor. Free wifi seems to be available only on the 3rd floor and the speed is quite slow.

They have rooftop garden at the 8F where there's a nice view. If you want to read English books or other Foreign language it's at the 5th floor.

Large library with a pretty rooftop terrace It can be hard to find a spot, given the long lines in the morning, especially an area with charging outlets. The library is powered by solar power and therefore the power wanes with the day.

I visited this library several times to gain inspiration since I am a librarian myself. It's an interesting building with a really nice rooftop. I am especially amazed by the beautiful exhibitions inside the library, they are done with so much care and seem very high quality. I can't tell much about the content since I don't understand chinese but it's a great place just to hangout. Some people seem to complain about the noise but when I was there it was really quiet. The modern library is supposed to be more of a community space than a quiet reading room anyways so I wouldn't mind it to be more lively either.

What a cool library! There's several floors full of books, desks, seating, high windows and views. You'll find plenty of students studying and it's fun to explore every floor. There's a roof top where you can look at the city 360 degrees around you and watch the sunset.

A huge land lot with historical buildings and a cool place for taking photographs. At top of the hill, you can see the whole area of Gushan Ferry and also the beaches, the light house and the Sun Yat Sen University campus on the big mountain nearby. Lots of history of Kaohsiung in this place and nearby area so it is really worth a visit when you visit Kaohsiung or nearby cities. The area is an old quarter of Kaohsiung city and some streets are narrower but have more history attached to it. If you have time, you should go to Gushan Ferry Wharf and take a ride to visit Cijin Beach and the old town there with lots of food carts and restaurants. You can ride a YouBike to explore the beach.

A short climb up to the main building.. the entrance fee includes a rebate per item from the cafe. There are seats to enjoy the view and have a drink or a cake/sandwich

It is an historical place with a cafe inside that serving a british beverage. If you lucky you can watch a show there.

Good views and decent tea. Be careful of the monkeys trying to steal gift bags.

A nice historic building with great views lovely photo opportunities and a tea room. It takes a bit of steep walk before you emerge onto a temple at the to of the hill go beyond that and you’ll find the ex British consulate. It’s not a particularly big building and only one room is a museum, but it is attractive and has spectacular views of the harbour. Head down the other side to the other half of the site which contains full sized models and informative signs. This is a great way to understand some of the more complex bits of Taiwanese history. Note that the 25NT off in the store is a discount (can’t remember how much you have to spend) and if you opt for the cruise ticket this is also a discount (the harbour cruise leaves at 2:30 pm daily).

Good spot to view sunset. Recommend to visit from 17.00 pm until closing time at 19.00 pm With approx. 60- 90 minutes in the evening, you will have enough time to enjoy small exhibition about the British Consulate, Kaohsiung port's history both in the lower and upper-hill buidings. The change of atmosphere outside turning dark and replaced by the light up of Kaohsiung city is nice to wait.

Interesting and well worth the effort. It was my 3rd visit, the previous occasions I was met with a locked gate. The place has been lovingly restored. The set scenes are well done and if you want afternoon tea its probably the place to be. The rooms aren't labelled as to their previous purposes but that's minor, The views are awesome. Let's just say the British consulate got the best views in Kaohsiung.

If you don't want to walk too much, you only prefer a little walk. This is the place for you. If you live in Kaoshiung city, just show them the ID, then you only pay half the price of a ticket. They only give you $25.00 ( Taiwan new dollar) coupon per person to shop.

The most amazing view you can see in the eyes of someone who was here more than two centuries ago, very beautiful building although the interior no longer has any of the previous belongings since it has been through many many different occupations. Now it's got a rose tea place and afternoon tea that you can enjoy with gorgeous views. Totally worth the 99NT entrance fee.

Something for the locals to remember by that the Brits were once here. Just an old well kept British building, some old pictures to depict the British's presence, nothing of historical value. Neither a museum nor a gallery. A very small gift shop selling souvenirs and some other gifts inside this building. The only appreciable note worth mentioning is the panoramic views. You'll have a bird's eye view on certain parts of the city. Quite scenic looking over the ocean and the harbour below. Before you reach the top of the hill, you need to do some climbing, actually walking some stairs roughly a good 10-15 minutes walk. Nothing catches the eye hiking up, once you reach the British consulate, you'll find another piece of attraction a very old Chinese temple with a mini pagoda next to it. Though separate by a fence and guarded by security you can easily gain excess with ease. Another one of those photo stops created much to attract tourist. Being a tourist I just have to follow the itinerary, on a scale of 1 -10, I put it at 3 sort of a disappointment traveling a few thousands kilometers to look at this under rated attractions sure not my cup of tea. Take a hike just to enjoy the scenic views around this area is what you'll get. Enjoy your walk. A word of caution beware of monkeys along the trail. A LIKE would be appreciated if you find this review useful.

The mall is situated near the glory pier. There is an affordable metro from Glory Pier and a bus stand near the mall. The mall is a complete package of an amusement park, shopping complex, food court, and seasonal activities center. The mall is subdivided into major complexes and is well connected through a bridge between them. The mall is home to National and international brands with seasonal discounts. It has a small amusement park on the top floor. It is one of the recommended malls in the city to view city life through the big wheel.

its a shame to visit dream mall in 2022. back in the years prior to the pandemic, dream mall was the mall to be at in kaohsiung. magnificent both inside and out are words of the part. whilst far from dilapidated, the magical aura of the mall is long gone and it is evident that the maintenance of the mall is of nowhere near the same quality as years before

Such a Huge and Beautiful mall in Kaohsiung. Considered as a high-end shopping mall. 1 day is not enough to visit. There's even a theater/cinema and a mini amusement park on top of the mall

Plenty to see like in any other large scale shopping malls. There is a huge food court presumably large when compared to others found in the city. Expect a large crowd here, when we were here it was a weekend so it was crowded. For comparing purposes we found certain items are cheaper here. We also found most of these items are daily use items like clothing, foot wares, sport's attire and edibles. One thing for sure is the large food court here and the number of different varieties worth mentioning. Prices are local standard rates. It was indeed a good experience for foreigners like me to enjoy the fun of shopping here. If you happens to be in the city do drop by and get hitched up with the vibrant experience to shop like the locals. Give me a LIKE if my review is of any help

A large mall with a giant Ferris wheel at the top floor! There are many to see, do and eat in this place, with special restaurants like 春水堂 (the place that claimed they created bubble tea). We had a fun time exploring this mall and shopping around for some good deals

This mall is what dreams are made of. It has a lot of cute 7-11 characters and toys which I love because I am quite juvenile. I also like to go to the arcade. Last time, the workers didn't have change so they gave us some free arcade tokens. Thank you so much. The ferris wheel is nice but not revolutionary. I do go on some other rides whenever I go, like the animals that you can steer. There are a lot of affordable shops and a decent amount of high-end ones as well. The mall is very easy to navigate and parking was a breeze as well. Today I saw some Barcelona, Gaudi-inspired decorations. They have seasonal decorations and events from time to time.

One of the biggest mall in Kaohsiung and very reachable (unlike EDA mall). But, I actually prefer EDA mall than Dream mall.

A huge mall with lots of retail shops and eating choices to choose from. There is even a ferris wheel at the top of the mall and other amusement rides where both you and the kids will have a great fun time. It is also quite pack during holidays and weekends and will take you almost a day to explore this mall.

A huge shopping mall in Kaohsiung. If one were to visit every shop, one would need one whole day or more. A good mix of shops/stores. Clothings, we visited 2nd Street (Big store), fast food - we visited and tried McD Signature Angus Beef Burger, and for drinks, we visited Xing Fu Tang. Moreover, this mall is easily accessible via Kaohsiung Light Rail, and it has its own Dream Mall stop. Good place to hangout, enjoy the vibrancy and air con in a hot day.

Another great mall in Kaohsiung with lots of stores there is one floor dedicated to kids alone. There are hundreds of shop in there plus a cinema. A great day out with good prices

The Dream Mall in Kaohsiung is amazing for families! There's so much fun stuff to do, tasty food to eat, and cool shops to explore, making it perfect for a whole day out. They've got something for everyone, so no one gets bored. From games and playgrounds for kids to lots of different restaurants and shops for everyone, it's a great place to spend time together and have a blast!

Such a beautiful station! Like an art gallery! There is even a light show. However, the surrounding shops are mostly closed when I visited in Dec 2022. Otherwise, it would be a very packed station.

This has to be one of the most beautiful subway stations I've ever been to in my life! The lights are mesmerizing and there's a light show every evening. We got there at 7.15pm just in time for all the lights to be turned off and the boulevard was transformed into an interactive light show. Also, lots of people just come here to snap a photo and leave but do take some time to walk under the dome ceiling to take in the artwork inspired by horoscopes.

The station is a three-level, underground station with an island platform and two side platforms. It is located at the junction of Jhongjheng and Jhongshan Road and has 11 exits. The Orange Line station is 334 metres long, while the Red Line station is 209 metres long. The station is known for its "Dome of Light", the largest glass work in the world. It was designed by Italian artist Narcissus Quagliata. It is 30 metres in diameter and covers an area of 2,180 square metres. It is made up of 4,500 glass panels. The dome will be offered as venues for weddings.

Pretty but underwhelming if it's global 2nd place for most beautiful subway station.

Beautiful dome worth of visiting the station just to see it. Arrive at the station and check the signs for the "Dome of Light". If you time your visit during low traffic hours (*) you will be able to enjoy the view and take nice pictures. * We visited at 18 of October 2023, around 16:30-16:50 and the place was almost empty, considering the population of Kaohsiung.

Worth to make a trip to enjoy the decorations inside the station.

There are 16 pillars and 2 core pillars supporting the giant piece of art work in the station. It's design is inspired by Italian and master craft build in Germany, Mexico, Italy. There are 4 types of glass, blown glass by murano, fused glass by Mexico, antique glass by Germany, fusible glass supplied by Oregon USA. It signify light, wind, fire and light. This is a master piece which takes many craftsman effort to put together. Every panel is colorful with design base on the 4 theme. Should visit if you have the time.

The best ever subway station i have visited

It's definitely one of the coolest station to see in Kaohsiung. The colourful and shining dome is so beautiful that you'll forget about the time when you see it and end up taking lots of photos.

An ordinary MRT station made beautiful by the colourful frescoes on the ceiling. There is also a pianist here at certain times of the day. Good, fun atmosphere when u r taking the trains. Don't need to make a special trip down to see it.

SKMPark outlet mall was previuosly known as TAROKO mall near Kaoshiung International Airport. Good for family bonding inside the busy city. Wide variety of foods to choose.

Conveniently located at the exit of KaoTsiao Metro Station, the park boasts an international style perfect for family fun. It features child-friendly dining and restroom facilities, including a children's play area. Beyond racing cars, which are not included in the day pass, there are many car-themed attractions that delight kids. Weekdays offer shorter queues, making the day pass a good deal. The outlet's food court offers a wide variety, with enchanting Christmas decorations and a spacious, clean environment. It's suggested to increase seating in the food court to prevent seat grabbing.

The place is really nice. Have everything from restaurant, shopping centre, playing ground, racing track, amusement park. Personally I like the kids amusement park the most. The vintage train is the primary attraction of the park.

Great shopping area that consist of 2 buildings. Able to get something for myself which can be a daunting task for me. There is also a food court that has lots of food option. KIds will be hyper with the rides surrounding the mall. A ideal place for both shopping and theme park day! You know what they say."Happy wify and kiddos, happy life."

Love it! It has an amusement park enmeshed in it, street performers, and seasonal decorations which kicks it up from similar clean and new-(looking) outlets. The food court has a good selection although there is nothing too tasty. The layout is good.

This mall has everything. From shopping, to a movie theater, to food, to a mini amusement park, and arcade. Great place for all ages. You can drop off the kids for arcades and go karts while adults shop. Can easily spend the entire day here.

A small amusement park with little crowd - good to visit for the Suzuka Circuit. I got 3 rides from the TaKao Fun Pass.

Another disappointing outing, makes no sense to bring us here just to have a look at this mall. I think there are bigger and better malls at our own back yard. I find nothing of interest here, bringing tourists to this place is a very wrong move unless you have something spectacular to present if not you can expect the back lash. Tour agents have to revise their itinerary to improve on better and more interesting places to visit or else you can expect a lot of negative reviews. Honestly, to me this visit is a sheer disappointment and is written all over the faces of visitors brought here. Doesn't promote this city well with places like this, brings more agony and blundering fiasco and is a bitter pill to swallow.

My very first time been SKM, interesting to me. Like it very much. Great and comfort space, the most important is easy to get there by MRT.

It is an Outlet shopping mall combined with leisure fun park. There are many rides from the bumper cars to racing circuit, from Circle wheel to Air Racers. It is. It crowded so there is almost no waiting needed But for some of the games, there is minimum height requirement of 110cm. The fun park is not huge but good enough for children to spend half a day. The mall has many brands like the usual Nike, adidas and the rest. On level 3, there is a big food court and many other restaurants option but you may have to queue during lunch hours. On the same level, there is amusement area that you can have all the games machines for children to play. All you need is to change tokens from the counters, coupon that you get could be exchanged for small gifts such as key chains, pencils etc. There are also children’s stroller for public and a Service Center in the mall to assist with your needs.

I think this is a pretty new mall so it's quite popular with people it was crowded when we went at night. It's directly outside caoya subway station and has bus stops. There are plenty of shops selling international brands. The choice of restaurants was good. Lots of international cuisine! There's also a theme park at the back of the mall with different kinds of rides. There were also street performers which was a nice treat. The tram looked interesting but we didn't figure out how to get in the ride.

Does she have a girlfriend? Please if not I want to meet her again, she is very cute, her service is very good, put a seat belt on for me🤭

The goods are relatively pricey but one may find some bargains on sales. There are quite an extensive choices of food courts on second floor. Nice food and good prices. There is also a cinema, a pet clothes shop and a hair dresser, a great place to relax.

Historic museum of Kaohsiung’s former busy port train station. There are three exhibit rooms, which have a multitude of artifacts on display, along with exterior decommissioned trains and a former trail rail yard . The interior is really interesting and includes items from former ticket date stamps to a blackboard with writing from over a hundred years old to items from the former Japanese garrison here. There are two friendly guides who help explain the history of the area. Public attractions / no tickets required.

Easily accessible by metro and light rail. A must visit for rail enthusiast. Good introduction to the area and rail history. Good way to spend your free time while in Kaohsiung.

Really exciting place to visit. A lot of fun for kids and adults. Maket just perfect, you easily can spend an hour watching trains moving around. They offer VR video about the history, very interesting. Small train trip is a fun, especially to see big boys and girls on this tiny model. Great installations outside. Take combo ticket, much cheaper. The only regretful point is lacking of information in English, but most important parts are duplicated, so it's ok

If you are already in the neighborhood of this railway museum, then it's worthy of making a stop to stroll through this tiny older building. It has preserved the original room arrangement well, the wooden counter, the bookcases, the VIP seating area the maps & photos on the walls and bulletin boards as they were like some 90 years ago. Can you imaging many merchants and people from all walks of life hustling and bustling through this tiny railroad station? To further relive that old scenes, there are a few old engines stationed on few abandoned railroad tracks with a backdrop of a modern transit railway running through every once in a while. You couldn't hear the sharp and loud whistle from those antique locomotives anymore, in stead you are hearing a mild ding-dong bell sound from the transit train when they're coming and leaving the track side platform. I noticed visitors that came here didn't show much interest in inside the station, they hurried out through the door to the old train station platform. Using those old engines as the background in their selfies was their main attraction. Perhaps I was there alone, so I spent time browsing inside to see what this train museum has on display. There was a 20 minutes constant running video on the history of this station and its neighborhood that I found it very informative. Surprisingly enough that I found that the staff on duty have no idea as to how and why the port of Kaohsiung was given the name Takao (打狗港) many decades ago. Perhaps, next time when you stop by this railroad museum, which is just outside one of the subway exits at Sizihwan Station (a very strange English spelling), I suggest you to spend half an hour or so checking out their displays and watch that video before you go out to the back taking selfies.

This is the lesser of the two museums in the area. Still worth a visit as this is more historic, but very cool. Not much for kids. The admission is free at this museum. There is a huge train yard where kids can run. In the afternoons when there is more wind people will fly kites.

Fascinating train museum. Admission is free but it’s honestly worth donating to keep places like these going. On the outside they have old trains like any other train museum but what sets them apart are the hand written archival records and many artefacts.

The museum descends from the Kaohsiung Harbor Train Station, built during the Japanese period. The station was then the first railway station in Kaohsiung with the original name of Takow Station (Japanese: 打狗停車場). In 2003, the station building was classified as historical building by the Kaohsiung City Government. On 9 November 2008, the last train was pulled out from the station at 5.30 p.m. Once the station was closed, the government took over the station building and land on the southern part of the station. On 24 October 2010, the government authorized the Railway Culture Society to enter the station for the opening of the Takao Railway Museum.
