Four floors of 🎨 artwork you can approach and study. History cards are next to the paintings, vases, sculptures, antiques and other items. It gives you information ℹ️ not only about the art but a little insight to the artist as well. Monet, Picasso,Kandinsky and many other artists' artwork being accessible was thrilling! I liked how the building was set up to use the lighting inside. The large windows added to my enjoyment because I could take a break and look out on the city 🏙️ and watch the activity. I wonder 🤔 how the inside would have looked on a bright 🌞 sunny ☀️ day? There is a garden with artwork outside. A cafe with plenty of seating is available. The bathroom was in good condition. A gift shop with books 📚 on art 🎨 and an elevator 🛗 for the handicapped is also available. Security was constantly walking around. I was limited on time to study everything due to the time I could purchase for parking 🅿️. Two hours is enough time to see 🙈 everything but not to read everything and watch the lectures on the flat screens. I want to return in the spring 🌱 or early summer! I am recommending a visit to everyone!

Pleasantly surprised by this local art museum. The pieces featured included works by Picasso, Matisse, Renoir, and Monet. A gorgeous interior welcomes you on the journey throughout this lovely place. Price of admission is well worth the experience.

A few galleries were closed off for installation or repairs. Mostly paintings/2d artwork on display. Good group of contemporary to modern works, with a mixture of well known artists and some lesser. Staff was friendly and helpful. Great spot to stop in if in the area and an art junkie. Took me about 2 hours casually + gift shop.

Got in for free on a Friday which was great. I love this museum, while it’s not my favorite, I find it an enjoyable experience. A little short compared to what I’m used to, but it always has some interesting medium’s on display for its special exhibits. It is also a little bit to vertical and I wish it was more spaced out but that’s personal preference.

Portland museum of art is beautifully set with strong collections from classic to modern and a nice cafe which offers a yummy blueberry hand held pie. It’s not too big to enjoy in a few hours. Love the gay pride window too. Great way to spend a rainy few hours. Very worthwhile.

I came here with my family all the way from NYC. This is a pretty small art museum. You can finish browsing the entire place (4 floors) in 45-60 minutes. A few artworks have caught my eyes and got me staring. If you enjoy art a lot, check out this place. It's a nice spacious area but I wish there were more to see for the $15-18 entry fee.

Nice little art museum. Most of the work from artist who live/d in Maine. I visited mainly to see the Hommer works but enjoyed the modern video installation even more, how beautiful and meaningful. In the sculpture garden my favorite was a person made with cage and rocks, just brought a feeling of a person being held down by the weight of the world we are in.

This museum was a delight to visit! We had middling expectations and were blown away. It had a fantastic collection of compelling art. It was well designed and well laid out. It had helpful and personable staff. I cannot recommend this enough. My friend calls it fantastic and that it has zero problems. Also! They're working very hard to make it physically accessible. There's frequent seating as well as portable stools and seats. It has an elevator and a wheelchair lift for smaller stairs.

A delightful, tiny museum with super friendly staff and well thought through exhibitions

This museum happened to be free on the rainy Saturday we went in June. I really loved the powerful way the art, crafts & decorative objects were juxtaposed in each room of the permanent collection (Passages in Americn Art). The Elizabeth Columbo exhibition, Mythologies, was also wonderful!

This museum's Free Friday is the best venue around. Admittance is free in the afternoon for everyone. My girlfriend and I happened to visit while grad students from Julliard were giving a classical music presentation and performance. The music contributed greatly to the atmosphere of the museum. For this reason, I give the museum 5 stars. As for the museum as a whole: everyone has different tastes in art, so I won't judge the museum purely on my own artistic preference. The museum features a wide variety of mediums and styles; there were plenty of pictures, abstract art, and impressionist/realist paintings--our favorites--situated in logical traffic lanes for easy viewing. Pleased to see some Homer, Degas, and Whistler in little old Portland, Maine. It was clean and well maintained. Great date night.

For the price we expected it to be much bigger, I was surprised how small it was unless we missed half the museum. It’s modern and clean and elevators to help you access other floors. But not the best museum I’ve been too, felt like they could do alot more with the space. But it’s nice to spend 45-60 mins in

The Art Museum of Portland, Maine was a great experience in local and international art. There were many Winslow Homer originals on display. There were many Winslow Homer originals on display. He was an American painter, best known for his marine subjects. He is considered one of the best American painters of the 19th century. I was taken by the mastery of the paintings throughout my tour, and I snapped some close-ups to show the details. There are also fantastic sculptures, models, and other various forms of art exhibited in different rooms. If you are looking for a break, there is a café at the basement level that sells adult beverages and snacks with some limited seating. If you are in Portland, ME and love art, make sure to put the Portland Museum of art on your itinerary.

It has a few great masterpieces that I really enjoyed. For my taste - a little too much of modern art. Would love to see more of older art (at least as temporary exhibits), photo exhibitions. The German exhibit was excellent and intense. Recommend to visit at least once!

While in the Portland area we decided to make the specific effort to visit Allagash and were not disappointed! The space was large with tons of outdoor seating (didn't see indoor seating available) with multiple areas to grab a beer. The variety on tap was very impressive with plenty of options to choose from. Food was available via food truck on site which was delicious, and the beers we got were all exceptional. The specialty bottles only available at the brewery were a treat as well. Highly recommend!

My boyfriend and I are from Philadelphia and came to Portland for the weekend. Allagash was absolutely amazing! The drinks were great. I loved the cider and the sours😍 And the Bite Into Maine food truck is delectable. The lobster rolls were a 10/10 and the pretzel with beer cheese is a necessity. I loved everything about it here.

Fantastic place to hangout, enjoy some beers, and eat delicious food. We made a lunch stop here in April. They have a great patio setup for cold weather. The staff are all super friendly to talk with.

Allagash white has been my all time favorite beer for many years now. It has been on my bucket list to visit their brewery for quite a while. We planned for Memorial Day of 2022 but Covid got in the way. We planned an end of summer road trip and I’m happy to say we made it up here in august. The brewery has been the nicest one we have been too. The grounds are awesome and thoughtfully laid out. Their on site food truck is amazing, as well as the selection of beers on tap. The people were so awesome (as are most of the people in Portland). Had a few brews…bought some swag and bud a fond farewell. Even my kids had a great time! So happy I was finally able to make the trip. It did not disappoint

There is a food trailer to eat at..there is inside and outside seating..under cover or in the open. Enjoy a beverage and stay awhile. There is a merch store to get some stuff. We came here while visiting after a culinary tour of Portland... Even after all of that food, we felt the need to visit this brewery with a food truck!!! We indulged and it was delicious. We actively look out for Allagash beer in our home state of Illinois

The place is set up really well and is customer friendly. The staff was friendly and attentive. The beer is terrific!!! Good selection. The food truck has really good food so it’s a great place for lunch. It was clean and plenty of parking.

Such a fun atmosphere! Great selection of beer, beautiful patio, fun outdoor games, and a food truck was on site! Everyone was so friendly - and the patio is dog friendly (loved this as an out of town visitor and dog lover). Highly recommend! Wish we would have been able to go multiple times during our weekend stay.

Everything we wanted and more. We have been wanting to try Allagash for years and finally made it up here. We arrived early on Sunday about 11am and got there right as they were opening up. We also got some lobster rolls from the Bite Into Maine Food Truck. They were delicious! Alagash's Cider was amazing as well and loved by my wife, who is pretty picky about ciders.

Absolutely loved the vibe of this place. I visited from Austin, TX and wanted to try this place out. The drink offerings were a plenty and the atmosphere made me want to stay all day. Grab a beer and a lobster roll and just enjoy the day. Cheers!

If I could give this place 100/5 stars, I would. We went straight here after landing in Maine, the staff were so kind and let us store our small roller bags in the staff area while we were there. My husband loved the beer, I don’t drink beer but was pleasantly surprised to learn that they brew their own cider which was lovely. There were so many small details that we loved about this place that made our experience so great. We had a fantastic time despite the rain!

Such an amazing location to come with friends and family to relax and have a good time in the sun! I love the outdoor seating and lots of dog owners brought their pets which was so fun! The beer is great and although Allagash white is my favorite we ventured out and tried some others including their cider. Everything was refreshing and the food truck food was pretty good as well. Overall, such a fun and relatively unique experience that I’d definitely recommend checking out while in Portland!

Allagash White has been one of my go-to's when it comes to beer. Visiting Maine I knew that I had to visit their brewery and wow, what a great moment. A great selection of beer, food and merch!

We made a day trip to Portland to eat, drink, and explore. Allagash came highly recommended, and I say it's worth the hype! Try the lobster rolls!

This was our favorite brewery of the many we tried during our week long Maine trip. The vibes were on point. The beer was exceptional. There was a food truck inside the outdoor area serving up delicious lobster rolls, pretzels, salads, chowder, and brats. We did not get to try any of the other breweries in the area but we were sure glad we picked this one as the experience overall was positive. They check i.d.'s upon entrance. There are many different options on where to stand and sit. There is a warm tented environment as well as a variety of seating arrangements from high tops to private feeling tables that can fit small groups. I would very easily come back here again.

We came all the way across the country to try Allagash in person. We enjoyed two of their beers, one of them was a limited time saison and the other was the sour with honey berries. We liked the various types of seating available. When we went, it was nice and quiet and enjoyed a simple lunch in one of the private booths. We wished there was more merchandise to choose from though. Just a note to visitors that they stamp your hand after they check each person’s ID, which was kinda new for us and unexpected.

Another good stop on our vacation to Maine. Allagash is an afternoon visit for us, there are 2 other small breweries in the immediate walking area. It’s nice to have a few samples, sit down and have a beer. Enjoy some good food from the vendor outside and just enjoy the day. No dedicated women’s bathrooms, his/hers in a general area. Great place to stop in and have a brew from a great brewery.

Victoria Mansion was an ideal visit for any lover of art and history. The Mansion has amazing architecture and extraordinary interiors with hand-painted walls. The Morse family owned the house and made a fortune operating luxury hotels, they were also very active participant in the slave economy. This Mansion holds alot of history and you get to experience that history first hand. The ticket prices were reasonable ( I recommend buying tickets online) and they had a guide in every room to explain all the details of that room. I highly recommend the tour, I highly recommend buying tickets online and mask are required.

A really fun experience exploring a piece of history that reflects 'The Gilded Age'. It is amazing to see the conservation work that has taken place over the years to restore what was at this property back to its height, from both restoring paintings and rooms from the soot and weather damage, as well as having pieces of original furniture return to the property and their original rooms. It was great to go during the winter season and see this year's Christmas displays in each room. I'd absolutely recommend a visit from all ages alike! Great for kids from 1 to 92, as the good old Christmas classic says.

Is stunningly beautiful old mansion with wealth and class on full display. The painted ceilings alone are not to leave you in awe for hours the 2 arguides are great and give you tons of information about the families that lives here and the history of the place. Architecturally. Architecturally inside and out this is truly a splendid experience

Good place to spend time and understand the history of wealthy American heritage and downfall. The entire tour is guided and takes around an hour. Wished all the rooms were available for a visit. Since it's guided, per slot occupancy is limited to 7-8 people. Parking available along streets and are paid as free parking is only for 15-30 minutes. Recommended to book the tour prior to visit. What a wonderful old historic mansion in the heart of Portland, Maine. Staff was very informative. When I went it was quiet, there were only two tour groups and they were both small, so we all got to move about to see everything, it did not feel crowded. The only thing I could think of was 'guilded age' - every part of the home was so opulent.

This place is absolutely stunning. Especially during the holidays. It takes an hour or two to get through and as off 2021 only 2 stories are open. But that being said it's still so worth visiting. And it's affordable too.

If you enjoy history, art or visiting historical places, this is a must! It’s a beautiful piece of history and artwork and the ornate detail the original owner had is amazing. Very ahead of his time and extremely ostentatious. Located right in downtown Portland. Parking is a bit limited, so arrive early to find a parking spot which is limited to street parking only. We visit on August 19, 2022 and had 3 adults in our party and adult tickets are $17. They still require you to wear a mask at this time, we did not have ours as most of Portland does not require them, but the mansion staff kindly provided us with some at the time we purchased our tickets. We were the last group of the day. Our tour guide was very pleasant and informative. She guided through the house and answered every question we had. We did run into two other groups, which must’ve been groups that started before us since we were the last one for the day. Even though we were the last group to start, we finished our tour much earlier than the other two groups that started before us and were the same size as ours. Our tour was completed in about 30-35 minutes, which was fine but my party would have enjoyed being able to look at the rooms a bit more. My husband joked that we got the expedited tour. We were allowed to take photographs but we had to keep the flash off. Also, it was very important not to touch anything including doors. They were currently working on restoration in the foyer area. The time and extent of detail it takes to do that is just unfathomable to me and just makes you appreciate it that much more. Overall it was a wonderful time spent exploring.

A must see. My tour guild was Susan( very knowledgeable) Going through the house gave me design ideas. To think this place was almost destroyed at one time. Pictures don’t do it justice.

Our group had a great time. This historical site is uniquely beautiful, with so much to take in. All of the tour guides were so friendly and informative, making the experience extra enjoyable. It is well worth the admission, which I believe goes toward the ongoing restoration of the home. We had the added bonus of seeing it during Christmas time decorations. I know I plan on returning with others!

I Love old homes! This house has wonderful character. They are in the process of revitalizing it, so it's a work in progress. I would have liked to hear more history of the home and previous owners. But, the craftsmanship of the hand painted wallpaper, plaster mouldings, and wood work were incredible. Several of the finishes in the house were very unique and different from anything I have seen. I absolutely loved the imported porcelain sinks and matching accessories! The entrance fees were a little pricey, especially considering it was in various stages of revitalization. I was surprised to find the cost significantly higher than the prices listed online and in the printed brochures. This home is not handicap accessible. Only the first floor is available by elevator (it was broken), to see the upper floors you would be given an iPad to view the rooms. But, no discount for the handicapped ticket. We were visiting from a cruise ship and decided to walk from the pier. The town and shops on the way were lovely. But, the walkways were not wheelchair friendly, so some of our group couldn't join us and had to return to the pier.

Amazing. The mansion has many preserved apects and furniture. The guides are awsome! If you like historical places, it's worth every penny.

Such a nice place to visit! The house is breath taking from outside and inside. The tour guides are knowledgeable and really sweet to talk with. It definitely was worth the visit. The only thing I would like is if they gave us a couple minutes to take pictures individually or with our group at least on the stairs inside and right on the exit. Because the groups are small up to 8 people, ours was 5 a couple and 3 of us, so definitely had time for a couple quick pics. Unfortunately we didn’t have time for that at all but the rest of the tour was definitely worth it.

PROS Beautiful and very interesting place! Our tour guide was organized, had good pacing, and open to questions. CONS We didn't get to see the third floor due to construction. Can't blame the staff though. Maintenance and restoration are understandable. OTHER NOTES Tickets were convenient to access, but that's because we went on a weekday.

This is always done up well and very festive. It's a wonderful building with many furnishings and decorations. Always a treat at the holidays.

Great place, always draws a big crowd. Even today when the wind was biting cold. One can just imagine the history that has played at this location over the decades past. A fort, a lighthouse, several islands, an old bean factory all visible. Not mention the awe of the ocean. I’m going to keep this review going with repeat visits in the future.

Glorious place to just sit, rest, relax, read, walk, picnic, kayak, or get something from a food truck. Loved this part of Portland.

Beautiful day and night. Fun to walk the dogs or walk with the kids. Also a romantic spot to watch the water. It gets cold though so bundle up before you head over.

An Excellent spot In Portland to take in the view of the Bay, Park, walk the Coastal walkway,/trail, rent kayak, go for a swim, play tennis/Basketball playground for kids etc. Place has everything as well as parking/shade FREE!

Awesome place to visit with family and friends. Unparalleled view of Casco Bay and Portland harbor. It has 2 mile long walking trail, it also has picnic area, playing ground for children and many more. You can enjoy the kayaking and paddle board on rent which is reasonable. There is ample spaces for car parking and it's free. It also has public toilet.

A beautiful place to walk and watch the sunrise. And on weekend there are lots of exciting food trucks to try.

Right on the water in a marina, the restaurant is huge with a great view of the boats. Food was good, but nothing to write home about.

Nice little ballpark, not a bad seat in the house. Food was just OK but pricey, but the tickets were reasonably priced. Easy free handicapped parking. It did have a little bit of that Fenway flavor... GREAT time!

Always a great atmosphere at Hadlock! Even on a night where the Sea Dogs lost in spectacular fashion, the entertainment factor was high. We got to enjoy a fireworks show after the game — one of the more impressive ones I've seen! Drinks are pricey but not as bad as you'd find at Fenway or other ballparks across the country, and the beer selection is stellar. Lines can be an issue, though in my experience, the beer stand behind third base and the one in right are not too bad.

What is not to love about this well designed minor league baseball park. Not a bad seat in the house. Comfortable seats Even has a green monster replica for this farm team for the Red Sox. Many choices of food and drinks with several stations to keep lines fairly short. Don’t forget to visit the well supplied gift shop with much memorabilia and souvenirs to choose from See a minor league game close up at very reasonable prices

We were there to celebrate my son's achievement for one of the most improved students and also there for Sluggers birthday!! It was a great time and my son had a blast!!

Great experience! First time to see the seadogs play! We had an awesome time! Very easy to find the field, parking was a bit crazy as the lots fill up quickly, the are a few spots within walking distance to the field. The staff were very friendly, good security, and the food was good!

We had great fun at the ball game. Wonderful field. The grounds were immaculate. Very clean stadium. Clean bathrooms and friendly staff. Like anywhere, concession prices are ridiculous. We will definitely go back.

We had a great time at Hadlock Field the other day! I haven’t been to a baseball game here in years, and I was glad to come back! It was nice to see a cross-section of Portland come out on a Tuesday night. Lots of people of different ages and backgrounds. Having an individual seat is way better than sitting on bleachers. Purchasing a reserved seat is advised if you expect to sit through an entire 4+ hour game.

Great seats (they are all good) - fun for the whole family without breaking the bank. Front row - section 113 and only $12-child, $16-adult seats. Clean, well run and maintained. Great night of baseball watching a rehabbing Red Sox.

We went to the game for a special event, most improved students. This is an event put on by NextGen. All the students with family go down on the field before the game. The students' names are shown up on the big screen. It was a great family day. They do have food, drinks, and ice cream available for purchase. They also have souvenirs available to buy. There is really not a bad seat in the whole stadium. You can see the whole field from anywhere you sit. They do activities on the field with kids in between the innings. They are very family oriented. It is exciting when a Seadogs player hits a homerun.. There is a lighthouse that pops out in the center field with sparklers. Fun.

We were there for my son first ever baseball game. It was such a great experience. The stadium was clean and well kept. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. What a fun day we had. Thank to everyone for giving us such a great experience. We will definitely be back.

Took the sunrise mail boat and would definitely recommend it. If you get there earlier than 4:50 am you have to wait for someone to open the ticket booth, so don’t leave if you don’t see anyone there. Boat ride was absolutely wonderful. I missed two sunset boats two weeks in a row because they were sold out and I am glad I did. The sunrise and the water was incredible.

This was the perfect thing. We had a great harbor cruise. We got the sun down cruise tickets 32, for a senior and Adult fair. We loaded at gate 3. They have a warm waiting room before you board with restrooms. The cruise was under 2 hours on a covered boat. Indoor options available. The boat stops at several of the island harbors.

Overall fantastic experience. Took my first ever ferry boat ride to Peak’s Island. The process to get a ticket and get to the correct gate was very quick and easy, and the boat left exactly on time. My husband and I sat on the top deck and experienced amazing views, fresh air, and other passengers were also very friendly and polite as well. It was a great way to spend a little time on a nice summer day. Tickets are also very cheap - only $7/each to get to peak’s island and no additional charge for the ride back. Dogs are also allowed on board.

The mail boat ferry was a unique experience with breathtaking scenery, as well as interesting history. Friendly customer service and deckhands. A very reasonably priced awesome day!

A great way to experience Portland is to see it from the water. Round trip tickets are cheap for access to Peaks Island on a pedestrian and vehicle ferry. All seats have nice window views of the harbor and surrounding islands, including a historic fort. Buy your ticket for any ferry. They leave fifteen minutes after every hour, and the line that forms north of the building where you can see a whale mural.

Nice little ferry and sightseeing ride out to Peaks Island just 15 mins off the coast of Portlands Old Port area. Sit outside on the top deck and enjoy the weather and sites of watercraft and the islands. Fancy a longed ferry ride then take what looks like an island hopper out to Long Island. Hint: drinks and food at Jones Landing right by the ferry dock on Peaks.

Nice sunset cruise. Not a lot of information online or on boat. The guided tour portion seemed to miss more points of interest than it hit. But any time on the water is good time on the water. Was a great evening! 👍

We took the ferry to Peaks Island. Wonderful. You get tickets at the booth - adults are $7.50, children $3.50. They are very organized, tho definitely not on time - the 15:15 was late (by 20 minutes). First, the cars board, then the people who live on the island, then everyone else. Go to the top you should find seats. The ride itself is about 20 minutes and can get cold. Take a sweater. On the island, you can rent bikes, golf carts etc...we didn't do any of that. Walking around was really fun we found a rocky beach that we explored and some lovely people who live on the island (in the summer). The ride back was a bit more crowded, but still very pleasant. Take a schedule when you get your tickets too and pack a snack , especially if you are with kids

The mail boat is a hidden gem! What a fun fun way to spend the day, affordable, and suitable for couples, families or even solo trips. I can't believe we spent so much money on all of the whale and seal and Puffin cruises this summer when we see pretty much the same things on this beautiful tour.

The mail boat tour from Casco Bay Lines is one of our family favorites when we visit Portland, Maine. This time around, we experienced fog and saw dolphins. It was a nice 2.5 hour tour and fun to watch the crew dock and unload at several small islands.

Fun day on the mail run boat. Bring the family for a 3-hour ride. The boat is a double deck with benches. Vending machines and bathrooms. Make a day of sightseeing and islands. Bring your lunch for a fun day on the boat.

We took the "mailboat run" tour on a Saturday afternoon. It was a really nice 3+ hour ride around the islands. The stops are just a few minutes as the crew loads/unloads cargo, so if you want to go see an island this isn't the ride for you. It was really about experiencing the bay and all of the fun out on the water. If you have a full day you can head out on the early run and then use the various CBL routes through the day to explore the islands.

We are always looking for something different to experience when in a new area. I found the mailboat tour. So we decided to give it a try. It did not disappoint. There were more people on it than we anticipated, but we went down the steps to the back of the boat, and there were only 6 other people down there. The views were awesome. Highly recommend this to see the island area fir a low cost.

We took the Sunday mailboat run and had a great time. Make sure you arrive by 09:30am for the 10am run, as it does get busy. Our run was about 2.5 hours long, as they are a little less busy on a Sunday when it comes to goods deliveries etc. Great way to see some of the islands and learn about them through the commentary provided by the staff!

Well run, on time outfit. There are various sizes of boats, almost one after the other that plough the waters around Portland. When you need to go to the islands, this is for sure the way to do it. They stop at the islands several times a day. The boats are a touch on the Spartan side, comfort wise, but they get the job done very efficiently. We had a blast going to and from Great Diamond Island... 👍👍

Took the sunrise mail boat and would definitely recommend it. If you get there earlier than 4:50 am you have to wait for someone to open the ticket booth, so don’t leave if you don’t see anyone there. Boat ride was absolutely wonderful. I missed two sunset boats two weeks in a row because they were sold out and I am glad I did. The sunrise and the water was incredible.

This was the perfect thing. We had a great harbor cruise. We got the sun down cruise tickets 32, for a senior and Adult fair. We loaded at gate 3. They have a warm waiting room before you board with restrooms. The cruise was under 2 hours on a covered boat. Indoor options available. The boat stops at several of the island harbors.

Overall fantastic experience. Took my first ever ferry boat ride to Peak’s Island. The process to get a ticket and get to the correct gate was very quick and easy, and the boat left exactly on time. My husband and I sat on the top deck and experienced amazing views, fresh air, and other passengers were also very friendly and polite as well. It was a great way to spend a little time on a nice summer day. Tickets are also very cheap - only $7/each to get to peak’s island and no additional charge for the ride back. Dogs are also allowed on board.

A great way to experience Portland is to see it from the water. Round trip tickets are cheap for access to Peaks Island on a pedestrian and vehicle ferry. All seats have nice window views of the harbor and surrounding islands, including a historic fort. Buy your ticket for any ferry. They leave fifteen minutes after every hour, and the line that forms north of the building where you can see a whale mural.

Sit outside on the top deck and enjoy the weather and sites of watercraft and the islands. Fancy a longed ferry ride then take what looks like an island hopper out to Long Island. They are very organized, tho definitely not on time - the 15:15 was late (by 20 minutes). First, the cars board, then the people who live on the island, then everyone else. Go to the top you should find seats. The ride itself is about 20 minutes and can get cold. Take a sweater. On the island, you can rent bikes, golf carts etc...we didn't do any of that. Walking around was really fun we found a rocky beach that we explored and some lovely people who live on the island (in the summer). The ride back was a bit more crowded, but still very pleasant. Take a schedule when you get your tickets too and pack a snack , especially if you are with kids

The mail boat tour from Casco Bay Lines is one of our family favorites when we visit Portland, Maine. This time around, we experienced fog and saw dolphins. It was a nice 2.5 hour tour and fun to watch the crew dock and unload at several small islands.

Fun day on the mail run boat. Bring the family for a 3-hour ride. The boat is a double deck with benches. Vending machines and bathrooms. Make a day of sightseeing and islands. Bring your lunch for a fun day on the boat.

We took the "mailboat run" tour on a Saturday afternoon. It was a really nice 3+ hour ride around the islands. The stops are just a few minutes as the crew loads/unloads cargo, so if you want to go see an island this isn't the ride for you. It was really about experiencing the bay and all of the fun out on the water. If you have a full day you can head out on the early run and then use the various CBL routes through the day to explore the islands.

We are always looking for something different to experience when in a new area. I found the mailboat tour. So we decided to give it a try. It did not disappoint. There were more people on it than we anticipated, but we went down the steps to the back of the boat, and there were only 6 other people down there. The views were awesome. Highly recommend this to see the island area fir a low cost.

We took the Sunday mailboat run and had a great time. Make sure you arrive by 09:30am for the 10am run, as it does get busy. Our run was about 2.5 hours long, as they are a little less busy on a Sunday when it comes to goods deliveries etc. Great way to see some of the islands and learn about them through the commentary provided by the staff!

Well run, on time outfit. There are various sizes of boats, almost one after the other that plough the waters around Portland. When you need to go to the islands, this is for sure the way to do it. They stop at the islands several times a day. The boats are a touch on the Spartan side, comfort wise, but they get the job done very efficiently. We had a blast going to and from Great Diamond Island... 👍👍

Looking for something to fill a few hours before flying out after lunch, we walked down from our hotel. They were not taking reservations so we went early to make sure we got on the first tour group. They only take ten people per group because it gets a little tight at the top. Our docent was wonderful and we learned a lot of fascinating information about what appears to be a lighthouse, but it’s not. Get there early as there are cruise ships in the harbor and the boat people were beginning to pile in as we were finishing. If you happen to be a civil or structural engineer, this is a must happen stop. Overall, a great morning!

This was a great little tour while in Portland. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and her stories captivating. And the view from the top was pretty spectacular. You can see all over the city of Portland, the inner harbor, out to Porand Head Light, and in the other direction, the White Mountains in New Hampshire.

A piece of history worth exploring! The building is beautiful and the top gives "wow" views of the city and water! You go up several levels to get to the top, and each floor has a place to stop and sit if needed. There are handrails for support making this a friendly for all abilities. The staff were great and answered all our questions along with some additional fun facts. Definitely something to add to your itinerary!

This tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Portland! The building and the history behind it is incredibly interesting, the tour guides are kind, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic, and the views from the top are stunning! Absolutely worth the visit and the tour!

We had a wonderful docent. Her additional anecdotes really made the history interesting. The climb to the top is very manageable as you pause on each floor and chairs are available. We visited on a sunny day and the views were incredible. There is a public restroom at the fire station next door.

We hopped in for a tour and walk to the top, and we are so glad we did! Our guide, Barbara, was awesome - very personable and shared such interesting history in a fun and entertaining way. The other staff was also super friendly and welcoming, and this was a perfect (and much needed!) stop for our family of five on our long road trip!

Probably should make reservations online beforehand, but we did not realize this. They did happen to have an opening when we stopped by to see it and we were able to get a tour. The tour lasted about an hour and we learned lots of history about this cool place that isn’t a lighthouse, but is built and looks like one. Once at the top there are some awesome views of Portland in every direction you look.

10/10 recommend. This was our first stop and really enjoyed how it helped orient us with Portland and the history. The tour guide was so informative and engaging. I highly recommend including this in your visit. Beautiful views at the top are a ending.

Shipyard Brewery It is noteworthy to mention upfront that the brewers of Shipyard Brewery studied under Alan Pugsley. Alan Pugsley came to the U.S. in 1986 and started a brewery in Portland, Maine. His love of brewing led him to assist with the start of more than 80 breweries in North America. He learned his craft at the Ringwood Brewery in Hampshire, England. Shipyard brews on-site. I sampled four beers. Each beer had its own character and was went down very easy. Make sure to stop in for a brew or two if you find yourself in Portland, ME.

We wanted to visit since we love the Pumpkin beer back home. It was a good experience. Did a flight of their experimental beers, a pint of the Pumpkinhead and a flatbread snack. It was all very good. The atmosphere was fun. Service was a bit slow but not a big deal at all. We would go back!

We were there for some food and beer. They have a good selection of beer. We had a couple different ones and both were good. They offer a couple different sizes or you can order a flight. There’s several food options also. We each had a pizza and enjoyed. The pizza is one size and a thin crust. Plenty of seating and a good place to relax and enjoy a beer. It’s easy get to by foot or there’s street parking and a garage nearby.

This is an awesome brewery and recommend stopping by for a brew! Great atmosphere and clean bathrooms. Shop with plenty of beer and a kitchen too.

Shipyard is a really cool brewery to check out when in downtown Portland. They are of course most famous for their pumpkin beer, which they start serving on August 1. Their selection of beer is decent and they pair up with Seadog Brewing so they had 20 beer on tap when we visited. There are tables set up and there is a good amount of space with even a few tables set up outside too. They have food available too if you need a bite to eat. My wife and I both ordered flights of beer which are 4 sample sized pours of your choice. We ordered a margarita pizza also. The pizza took less than 10 minutes to be made, but the chef put a balsamic glaze on it, which it was not supposed to come with (see the menu for the description). I unfortunately don't like balsamic so the chef was kind enough to make another one without it like the menu described. I honestly was not a fan of the pizza and wouldn't order it again. It tasted alright, but the mozzarella cheese was so thick and dense and wasn't particularly melted that it eventually made my wife and I feel a bit nauseous later. Don't get me wrong, we love cheese but we felt like we ended up eating like a 1.5 lb block of cheese. It just didn't sit the same way as other pizza does.

Clean and cool atmosphere. Really good beers - they have a wide variety of several different types to try. Some are experimental and not sold elsewhere, which is fun. Friendly service. Limited food menu, but what we did order was tasty. Pumpkinhead is my favorite pumpkin beer anywhere.

We like Shipyard’s pumpkin beer when we had it back in California so decided to go to the brewery to have it there. We were so excited to try it out. Just note that the initial smell can be overwhelming at first but it’s just bc it’s normal brewery smell. The beers were good and we enjoyed the pumpkin beer and the blueberry beer from Sea Dog Brewing the best. But those we’ve had back at home before. None of the new ones we tried were too memorable. Nice decorations of the place though and friendly bartenders.

This is a great brewery in Portland Maine. We stopped in for a sampling & was not disappointed at all. I had the Blood Orange Wheat Ale & it was fabulous. The bartender was kind enough to let me sample a few beers to figure which was best for a full pint. They have a nice menu for some tasteful bites while you sip on your beer. There is a very worthy swag shop & carry out beer that rivals most liquor stores. This is a must visit when in Portland Maine.

Nice tucked away brewery in Portland. Very spacious inside. Had the famous Pumpkin Wheat Beer and it was pretty good. Definitely liked the Interior space if this brewery.

Had fun here. Was with a friend that enjoys their pumpkin beer so we stopped to see what else they made. Kind of nice they paired up with Sea Dog so there was multiple beers to pick from. We got a couple flights and enjoyed it. Big portion of this place is the store too but there were plenty of tables to sit and enjoy the beer.

We went there on weekdays, last week of August, it was small crowd. Had two flights and all of them were amazing. Great food, had cheese pizza and pretzel nugget bites. Service was amazing. Their soft drinks were unique flavor and family loved them.

They have a great selection of beer so that anyone will find one they like. The smashed pumpkin and the barrel aged smashed pumpkin(only available in cans) are incredible and so unique I have never had a beer similar to it. The summer ale is super refreshing and a great one to sip on a hot day. We tried almost every beer here and our party had no complaints we really enjoyed them all. The staff was also incredible so helpful and super attentive!

Fun little experience for locals and tourists alike. This scenic, vintage train runs up and down the coast. You can choose a normal train ride, but there are also themed rides throughout the year including an ice cream train. We took the Sunset Express which took about 40 minutes round trip in travel time, and came with a drink (beer/cider/seltzer/hard cocktail). You have to pick up the drinks at their building, not on the train which wasn't immediately clear to us. We unfortunately ran into fog that obscured the view but it was interesting at least. I did expect the conductor or someone would give historical facts over the loud speaker, which didn't happen. Maybe that's on the other trains that aren't the Sunset Express. We chose to ride in the open air car which does have a roof in case of rain. The vintage Caboose is kind of cool however. We were lucky that the train was mostly empty when we went, so we got to explore and walk up and down the train. Good activity for kids.

Even though the trip is very short - 30 minutes - I enjoyed it. The guide was interesting and informative. The big disappointment was that it was not the steam train. We were on a diesel locomotive. Steam trains run when they find a crew that knows how to run steam trains, which is not all that easy.

Great first train ride for my granddaughter. Paid $20 for VIP seats, came with a snack n drink. Seats were comfortable and view of the water was great. Even got to get out and take some pictures before returning back. Recommend to anyone new to the area as well.

The area is beautiful and scenic. Even if you don’t plan on taking the train, which you might want to for views. The surrounding open area is a nice picnic place. Your can walk by the rail and then navigate to the open area by the sea with big swings and good views.

First time in Maine, and I was looking for activities for my kids, and I saw the Narrow Gauge Railroad. It was a fun experience! My kids loved it. They were a bit disappointed that it only lasted 40 minutes. I was a bit disappointed too because when looking at their site, there is a picture of a black steam train like in the Harry Potter movies, and that was one of the main reason I booked it. Unfortunately, we did not see that train. All in all, it was still a fun ride.

For such a short ride it was so worth it for the price. The history lesson behind the railway and the bridge were wonderful. We appreciated that the conductor was in costume, super knowledgeable and wiling to answers questions. Would definitely recommend this for the train enthusiasts.

What a cute time ! The VIP ticket is worth is for the snack & drinks that come with it! The folks working the train & the cashier were all very nice & I appreciated the train uniforms. A lovely time overall, would love to see an adult only ride with some dranks sometime for a special event lol.

Had a great time here! We rode on the evening ice cream train— was a very enjoyable 40-minute ride along the Eastern Promenade. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the history of this type of train, and it really felt like we went back in time. Definitely recommend!

Some would think a silly tourist gimmick. But it actually is a nice ride with great information about Portland. I won't spoil it for you. And certainly cool for anyone with even a bit of train geek in them. Looking forward to the steam locomotive being in service some day. Staff was friendly and patient to answer some of my train geek questions!

Tough time to visit as Longfellow House and almost all other exhibits are closed for various reasons, but for a greatly reduced admission of $5, we did thoroughly enjoy the Chansonetta Stanley (think Stanley Museum in Kingfield Maine) Emmons Staging the Past room full of photos, objects, and quality explanations. Only other exhibit on Maine’s Graphic Tees was too minimal to enjoy much but glad it was there.

Kinda disappointed. The Wadsworth-Longfellow house was closed and we paid $30 for 3 adults to go in a small circle inside and see almost nothing.

The two main Wadsworth-Longfellow houses (this and the house in Boston) are unusual in the sheer volume of original artifacts. What distinguishes this house is the rather professorial mien of the guides. Taken in total, it is easy to gain a deeper appreciation for America's most popular poet during the 19th century.

We really enjoyed our visit. It is a gorgeous place. Kudos to the staff who put their hilarious spin on the "do not touch" signs! I pretty much went on a treasure hunt, looking for one in each room! Our guide was wonderful,too.

This place is the tiniest museum and yet in many ways cutting edge! Went to the climate Justice exhibit. I am very impressed, and I work in a museum, at the social justice lens, the inclusion of indigenous ontologies in a more than „name dropping way“. So authentically good and seriously seeking to touch the right points! I think every Portlander should see this exhibit!

It was a nice facility and the house tour is nice. You are required to download an app to listen to the content, but not a big deal if you have a smartphone. You may bring ear phones if you don’t want to listen out loud. The museum has three main sections and talks a lot about the history and how it relates to Maine. Worth the $15 and 2 hours we spent there!

We like to visit a historical society whenever we get a chance because we like learning about the community's history. There's a great food exhibit in the gallery that was really interesting and informative. You can even turn into a Portland Italian sandwich which is obviously for kids, but naturally I couldn't resist. You can also visit the Wadsworth-Longfellow House next door.

We wanted to visit a museum in Portland that is focused on local history and this was the only one that fit the bill. It was small but quite interesting. It gave us a glimpse of Maine’s past and present through two exhibitions. The first, called “Trade Banners and the Crafts That Built Maine” presented the various trade associations from the mid-1800s, whose collective output was vital to the state’s economy. The second, called “Spark! Maine ART Stories”, showcased the work of contemporary local artists and what Maine means to them. The museum has a nice gift shop offering coffee table books and souvenirs. We stayed for an hour.

I took my two Autistic kids here for their Play Your Way time slot, and they had a WONDERFUL time!! The staff was super friendly, understanding and accommodating, and the third floor with the water station and ball sculpture were a HUGE hit. So nice to have a neurodivergent-friendly place to take my kiddos, and feel truly welcome. Can't wait to go back!

Lots of kids but so much fun! Has three levels. Water play and air play with balls was our favorite. Town with fishing boat and market to cook it up made her day. Very cool colored lights exhibit and lots of climbing. Not really for adults, centered around children but had a good time watching her play.

Explore the wonders of Maine's natural world, from the engaging aquarium on the third floor to interactive science exhibits throughout. * Cast Off for Fun! Of course, a trip to a Maine children's museum wouldn't be complete without a lobster adventure. The "Our Neighborhood" exhibit on the second floor features a beloved lobster boat exhibit, complete with a mini lobster shack for dramatic play. Tips for Landlubbers: * Parking is difficult, so be prepared to search for a spot. * Bring a change of clothes if you plan to visit the water exhibit on the third floor. * Check the schedule for interesting classes offered on the second floor.

Such an amazing place to being the little ones. I bought memberships as a gift for my nieces and they beg to go here. The exhibits are all very well thought out. Always so much to see, touch, and learn. Plus they do a wonderful job of changing things up to keep them fresh. We've also visited the theatre, which was magical. They have a clever sound proof room behind the seating area so that if your little needs a break or just needs to move their body you can still hear and observe the show without disrupting others 😊 The maker space is definitely my nieces favorite spot. Just lots of objects and tools to craft and create with, to her little hearts content. We've literally spent an entire block of crafting time here, let them clean up and ready it again, and then gone back for more.

Very fun. The most interactive part was 3rd floor. I think 2nd floor was more for younger kids and to play with friends. It was cool to see the art and culture area, but my 9 year old wasn't as interested. He did learn to write his name in Korean, which was a cool experience. Bathroom on every floor, which was easily accessible. They also had water bottle refile stations. There is no food in the museum, but they do allow bottles and water. We went 12-3 but only stayed until 2:30 and were definitely hungry, but we could have stayed longer with the water play area.

Classy organization, to say the very least. I wish we could just show up and get tickets by the door though. That's a very minute detail I am willing to overlook. My four year old son absolutely loves this place, which is why we got a membership recently. We live over an hour away but it's well worth the time travelled.

Great place to bring kids. There are tons of different activities and themed rooms to entertain kids with just about any interests. The water room is always a big hit. Also the animal/aquarium area is nice. My kids have fun here every time we go. All the parking is paid. There is not much for food options really close.

The kids had a blast on the climbing structure on the first floor and also spent a long time on the second floor doing dress up and playing at the different neighborhood exhibits. My kids are 5 & 7. There was lots to do for younger ones too with a dedicated toddler only area. There is an aquarium and another area for water play on the third floor. We ended the day outside on the playground. Even though it was winter it was a mild day so it was nice to have them get some energy out. We will definitely be back!

Great place to bring children! Id say 10 and under is best, maybe even 7. Our two daughters had a blast though! We have a 10y/o and a 1y/o our youngest had the time of her life while our oldest was mostly bored. Loved the little toddler section, as well as the aquariums! Theres a little reading room off the aquarium with a live beehive! Super cool! The splash room was the biggest hit beside the lightbright room! Overall it was totally worth the money! Did suck having to pay for parking but it wasn't outrageous, $2 per hour. Visit the website before you go and look at the discount section, most library's carry discounted tickets to a lot of places around Maine!

Super fun for the kids. I was a little disappointed and thought there would be more but the kids had a blast so thats all that matters.

Clean, bright, and a very friendly staff. It's definitely one of the best children's museums we've visited. The spaces are nicely divided, making it easy to corale our 2 kids into a singular area without losing track of them while also allowing them some freedom to go explore. The place isn't giant, but it's big enough. We especially love the makers' space open 1-2 times daily.

So much fun for our 6.5 and 2.5 year olds. There's an aquarium, water fun, a mini imaginary world with a firetruck, boat, train, kitchen and airplane. Small well padded play area for little little ones. Makers space to create something with paper or recycled materials. There's a climbing wall that is like a large crawlspace wall. So much education, free play and fun. Excellent place to go. I'd recommend it 100%!

Tickets were sold out for every slot the day we visited. Thank goodness as it was PACKED. Crazy loud, little bodies running everywhere. It was a rainy day. Kiddo loved the third floor water tables. Loved the local themes.

The ONLY complaint I have is that there isn't enough playtime for children with autism that can't handle the crowds. My boy usually wants to leave early because he can't handle the massive noise and crowd. They DO have certain days for these types of kids but I think they need more. But ...5 stars all around. The staff is exceptional and caring. Love this place

My two boys had a great time. We drove from Lincoln to visit, well worth the drive it's way better than the one in Bangor. Make sure you bring a extra pair of clothes for the little ones the 3rd floor they will get wet with the water stuff, but so worth it. They do have a section for kids 3 and under my 1 year old had a great time too. Highly recommend going.
