Amazing 10 mile long bike and walking/running path. Completely car free, had to cross a few small roads but never had to ride along side the road at any point on the trail. Relatively flat with great views. Several parking lots along the path, search shining sea parking in google maps and the actual lots will show up. Most of the parking lots have water bottle refill stations which was convenient. Start on the north end and take a break in Woods Hole at one of the many restaurants there before returning. The most scenic section (in my opinion) was between West Falmouth and Woods Hole, with the marsh just south of the West Falmouth parking lot and a nice stretch of beach a little north of Woods Hole. So if looking for a shorter ride you could skip the most northern section, although it was nice and shaded since it was mostly lined with trees.

This trail is absolutely amazing. I started around Falmouth Main st and rented bikes. We had such a fun time biking on a paved well kept trail with fantastic scenery of ponds, beaches, and ending with a slice of pie at Pie in the Sky in Woods Hole. The coastline along the path reminded me of my travels to south France and was relatively uncrowded even for a pleasant sunny Sunday in July. As a side note, there is some commentary that this is the wrong location. Personally, I rented bikes from Corner Cycle in Falmouth center and got to the trail from there. You can either go in north Falmouth or Woods Hole direction from there.

While vacationing with my family in the Falmouth section of Massachusetts, I came across the Shining Sea Bikeway. I was looking for a safe place to run that was away from street traffic and it seemed like the perfect place to do my run. As I ran through this trail, I became impressed with all the amazing amenities it had to offer. There were mile markers every half mile and various works of art peppered throughout the route. Everything along the route was made to cater to the cyclist. There were bathrooms, bike pumps, plenty of informational signage, and occasional picnic tables. There were even food establishments within a stone's throw of the route. I did some research and found out that the route was the site of an old train line that ended at the ferry at Wood's Hole. By 1975, the tracks were removed to make way for a recreation route for cyclists, runners, and walkers. I liked the fact that most of the route I ran had tree cover which protected me from the hot summer Sun. The total length of the route was 10.7 miles. I highly recommend the Shining Sea Bikeway, especially to those who love to cycle. The route is completely flat, so it's good for younger cyclists as well. And the amazing thing is that you can cycle it for 10.7 miles to the end, then take the ferry with your bike straight to Martha's Vineyard, then continue biking on the Vineyard. There are still parts of the route where you can see some of the old train tracks revealing how it once looked when the route was used for train travel. This was such an unexpected gem to find and I'm glad that I found it.

Easy and breezy trip! I would highly recommend the Island Queen Ferry. They are always on time with drop off even if they are a little late leaving. They have a large variety of food and drink options. They are also very flexible with the changing times or days for departure and arrival as needed. We have never needed to buy online. There is always enough space to buy tickets right before we board.

Always a pleasurable boat ride! It’s been a few years and still enjoy every-tine. I’m not sure who would travel any other way unless of course you had a personal boat. It’s so easily accessed and so much less of the hustle and bustle than traveling the steamship. Nothing against them but it just feels more pampering making it just an added bonus to your day trip/vacation. fortunately there are also multiple accommodations for parking your car with in walking distance location, personally why not? Who wants to be shuttled in 20min away from your route of travel, I also came across a private parking area 5min walking distance so if you get stuck give me a message and I’ll gladly share per his approval. Hope you all enjoy as much as I do!

If you don’t need to bring a car over to the Vineyard, and your destination on the island is Oak Bluffs, this is the way to get there! I travel over to Martha’s Vineyard a dozen times a year and the Island Queen has been the most reliable option for me. Parking on the mainland is convenient (although cash only prepay) and walking distance to the Ferry. The location of the Ferry on the Oak Bluffs side is in a great spot, walking distance to most OB attractions and the Bus. I highly recommend the Island Queen for a great reliable trip to and from Martha’s Vineyard!

The Island Queen Company is well organized to handle a large number of travelers. We were ushered into the parking lot ($20/day, cash only) and directed to the open spaces. It is then a walk of less than a hundred yards to the ticket booth and boat boarding. We had a smooth ride to Martha's Vinyard where we spent a few hours taking in the sights. Our return ferry was right on time and loading aboard went well, despite a large group of children day campers. Thanks to the Island Queen for a memorable and safe journey.

They are very accommodating and easy to reach. A month ago, I booked a reservation for 4 but we are unable to go due to a medical emergency. They quickly issued a refund via gift card. Yesterday, went to Martha’s Vineyard. It is very easy. Parking is nearby. The ferry is clean. Arrives and departs on time. Some chairs are kinda loose. But it is ok. No big deal as there are a lot of seats available. Overall great experience!

Woods Hole is the home of the world renowned oceanographic institute. A day of walking around the area and exploring is a day well spent. Do not miss the museum. There's also an array of good eateries and shops. You can do a walk-on and get to Martha's Vineyard for about 10 bucks too. (But it'll cost you a quick 100 to drive on).

Exciting way to travel to Martha Vineyard. I took my car across to the island, and found it interesting how they lined you up in the bottom of the boat. (You are given an assigned numbered lane to enter the ferry.) Once lined up and parked inside the ferry, I was able to leave the car and go up the stairs and find a seat to sit and watch the crossing. An announcement was made to return to the car and I drove off. Very efficient service.

This is my first time on a ferry, and it was so much fun. It was quick and easy to park at the satellite, lot and shuttled to the dock. I chose to sit up on top instead of the air-conditioned section. It’s a beautiful trip to Martha’s Vineyard and part of the charm. Once you get to MarthasVineyard go to a spot where you can see the cars coming out. It is unbelievable how many cars they carry on this ferry!

This port was very nice!!! It was very enjoyable staying by the sea side while waiting for our ferri to board. There is a 45 min wait between the boats, however there are shops and restaurants with in a 2/5 min walking distance to accommodate you while you wait. The ⛵ smell, for myself any ways, the Sunshine 🌅, and the amazing aroma of lobster 🦞 we're enough to capture me while I waited. There are bathrooms that are very clean and a waiting room inside as well as space outside if you'd rather just stay put. It's well spaced and every one is very nice!!! Well done 👍👍

Our family enjoyed being able to walk up to the lighthouse, and then viewing from a distance from a nearby beach. Truly breathtaking views. And then one turns around and there are breathtaking views of Martha's Vineyard, Vineyard Sound, Elizabeth Island and the Wood Hole Passage.

A beautiful lighthouse placed on top of a grassy hill overlooking a rocky coast. I rode my bike here from the bike trail last month and it was definitely worth it. You can tell that the lighthouse and property are really well kept. You are able to walk onto the property and take pictures by the lighthouse. There is also a trail across the street that leads down to the rocks along the coast where there are some nice spot to sit, relax, and take in the views.

We drove along the picturesque coastline of Cape Cod until we came across the Nobska Lighthouse set on a hill with breathtaking views of the ocean. The grounds are spotless and the buildings have been perfectly restored. This must be the most enchanting place at sunset and I can well imagine lots of wonderful moments have taken place here. If you venture across the road, you’ll follow a short path to a lovely monument and incredible views of the shimmering ocean. Definitely go visit the Nobska Lighthouse in Wood’s Hole on Cape Cod. Located at the very bottom of the Cape, you will find so many wonderful things to see in Wood’s Hole in addition to the lighthouse. Was beautiful! I particularly love lighthouses! Don’t ask me why lol the parking is not the greatest, kinda have to be mindful of others and wait for a spot, but if you bike there you have no problem. The view is incredible, if you have the chance to go on a nice sunny day you can take spectacular photos. There is a tight little trail that leads to the rocks below, if you’re adventurous like me you’ll love to go explore. You can sit on the big rocks and just soak up all of it front row seat!

Beautiful lighthouse in a beautiful area. The lighthouse was closed for repairs the day we were in the neighborhood, but still got some cool pictures. If you go when it’s busy, there is little to no parking available, and there is no room to park on the street. You may have to keep driving around until a spot opens up.

Sadly, the lighthouse was closed for repairs when we visited, but we explored the beach and surrounding areas, and the scenery was just absolutely breathtaking. The beach is a min down the very narrow street that has a lot of turns and pedestrians. You need a parking permit to park alongside the beach, but it's fine after 5 pm. Woods hole port and all the restaurants are only within couple min drive. So it's nice to spend the day on nobska beach and just head to the pier for dinner and some shopping.

Cute light house, nothing fancy. Nice view during daytime, would be a great sunset visit. Pull over parking, no real spots but not crowded at all and not a busy street so its easy to pull in and out of. The drive to and from the light house is beautiful

The aquarium itself was very cool and the staff was absolutely amazing (they answered all 100 million questions my kids asked)! I'm only giving 3 stars because there is NO PARKING lot so you have to drive the same 1 mile radius waiting for an open meter along the street.... this took legitimately 45 minutes. The aquarium is very small and only takes half an hour to see it all so you be the judge on whether the parking hassle is worth it.

Excellent aquarium to take your little ones for a quick and fun experience. Although the aquarium is small, it is the perfect size with a fair diversity of marine life to stop and keep them engaged. This is a great small aquarium that is free to public. Because this is a free attraction you can go for an hour or so and not feel like you've paid so much money you have to spend hours there. The small town has beautiful scenery so why not walk around the town and enjoy lunch before or after. This is a low stress fun time type of field trip for my grandson and I. Loved it!!

The aquarium is very small and the signs for which creatures are in which tanks are dark and hard to read. Those are my only reasons for not giving it five stars. It's a lovely, little aquarium with some beautiful sea creatures, with a wealth of information available. We were lucky enough to arrive in late afternoon and observe feeding in several of the tanks, which was fun to watch. Entrance is free and donations are accepted. Definitely a place to visit.

It’s a beautiful walk in the woods along the water, passed a little beach area, all the way out to “the knob”, a small area of land sort of shaped like an arm with a fist, where you climb up some steps to find a bench on a paved landing and a gorgeous view. If I were a local, I’d come here often. And in fact we did see lots of people walking their dogs, even with snow on the ground. This area is free and open to the public, though there’s limited parking available so plan accordingly. Either go early in the morning or go off season. We encountered lots of people and we went on a chilly winter day. Suitable for able bodied people. Not ideal if you can’t climb. It’s otherwise appropriate for all ages.

This is one of the best spots to watch sunset on Cape Cod, located in Woods Hole. You can find parking at Quissett Harbor, but with very limited spots. It takes about 10 to 20 minutes to walk to The Knob from the parking lot. Restoration construction has completed early this year so The Knob is open to public since then. This is one of my favorite places to go when I visit upper Cape Cod.

A beautiful place that gives you the panoramic view. It is a narrow lane from the parking and it is hard to imagine what lies ahead after a 15 minutes trail. Once you reach the peak and look around 360 degree, the view is just awesome. If you can manage, be around the sunset time to make best use of this opportunity. We missed it due to clouds / rains but enjoyed the stunning ocean view.

Due to beach erosion, all of the trails to the Knob are closed. But if you are adventurous, during low tide you can access the Knob via the shoreline. It will require some grappling in a few spots but it's not impossible, I saw children and elderly managing the convoluted route. Parking is very limited and the Knob is adjacent to private property. Cape Cod during season is definitely a crowded place. We visited in February and always find parking but were never alone. Unfortunately for those with mobility issues this is yet another attraction that is inaccessible. Dogs are allowed only during the winter and please keep them on a leash.

I've been to Cape Cod a few times before. I have actually never been to The Knob before in previous years. I recommend heading up at 9 AM as it is peaceful and enjoyable. It is my favorite part of Cape Cod and the wind is so darn satisfying! It is breezy in the summer! If you want to go to Cape Cod, you must visit The Knob!

It's a stretch to call Highfield Hall a museum. It's more of an art gallery. The self-guided tour is a joke. In one room there are photos of the mansion 's restoration and copies of period newspaper stories about the original owners and the subsequent failed efforts to repurpose the house. The rest of the rooms don't have anything in them, except for paintings for sale. The garden and walking trail are nice but nothing special. If you are in the area, it's maybe worth your time to go to walk around the gardens. Otherwise, I wouldn't go much out of my way, unless you are in the market for a painting.

Beautiful forest. We found lots of Lady Slippers. Many different kinds of trees and a little lake. The giant Red Beech tree was incredible. We also tried the ADA trail, which goes down to the Red Beech tree and an amazing series of outdoor percussion instruments. They very higher quantity and better sounding than that I have ever seen outdoors before. What hoot. If you or your kinds have any musical interests this is a must-visit place.

This place was quite large. I wish we could have gone inside but it was closed while they decorate for Christmas. The sculpture is really neat and almost interactive as you can walk around it. There is a lovely sunken garden, there were fairy houses as an art installation strewn about the paths, and lots of walking paths. The Woods Hole Inn is a gem! My wife and I stayed here for our babymoon, and had a fantastic experience. The location can’t be beat - all the restaurants of Woods Hole are mere steps away, as is the ferry to the Vineyard, making a day trip incredibly easy. The staff are all so kind and helpful. We especially appreciated the beach shuttle service, which enabled us to enjoy many of the cute beaches in the area without having to worry about parking restrictions. The included breakfast each morning was fresh and delicious. Our room felt very private, and was well appointed with amenities and comforts. All in all a 5 star stay!

What a sweet and comfortable inn! They really nail the balance between vintage charm and modern comforts, with a comfortable bed, lots of fluffy towels, and a spacious updated bathroom with a deep claw-footed soaking tub. Every staff member I encountered was kind, professional, and warm. The included breakfast is excellent: fresh hot egg-vegetable-cheese bake, hard boiled eggs, house made granola, yogurt, juices, and gorgeous fresh fruit (with not a scrap of the standard-issue unripe melon that often shows up in hotel breakfast buffets). They do it right! If you can, get one of the rooms with a deck and a harbor view. The view is pretty, and it’s fun to watch the ferries come and go. The coffee at the inn is fine, and there is also excellent coffee right across the street at Coffee Obsession, a small local business with a couple of locations.

We had an excellent stay. We had a view of the ferry dock, balcony and ocean. It was special to hear the ferry horn as it departs during the day. The room and entire Inn were so clean. That is the most important thing for me when staying somewhere. It was hot and humid outside, so the window a/c made the temperature bearable. The first day's breakfast was my favorite. Best scrambled eggs ever. Excellent bacon, different fruits, lots of choices for a gluten free guest. We had fresh GF muffins from a local bakery. The coffee is very good, too. Toilettries in the shower were refreshing, especially the shampoo. Their pillows were perfect for a good night's sleep. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. Did I say the Inn was squeaky clean? We appreciated the nighttime quiet hours so we could enjoy the sleep and calm of the surroundings after a long day. The porches were comfortable for relaxing and taking in the sea air. We are looking forward to a future visit at Woods Hole Inn.

We stay at Woods Hole Inn for a wedding, with the entire wedding party. We had a very tight packed schedule that included an early arrival from Florida, which the staff of the inn was able to get our room ready and checked in early so we could get ready for an event. This alone was hugely appreciated! The inn itself was so cozy and beautifully decorated. There were plenty of communal spaces throughout the inn for everyone to join together, as well as having the cozy privacy in your rooms. The bed was very comfortable, and the room overall again was beautiful decorated and had a little fridge and the typical amenities you find in a hotel. We were able to enjoy breakfast as well, which is all house made and so delicious. The staff all around were very warm, welcoming, and had great recommendations on things to do in the area. We are from New England but living in Florida, this inn gave us all the New England vibes and felt just like "home".

My boyfriend and our pooch companion had a last minute evening booking when we weren’t able to hop on the ferry due to the choppy waves. Tina was a life saver! She went above and beyond with her hospitality giving us the pet friendly Tisbury room. We had our own private entrance and parking space making the entire trip much easier. Our sweet Labrador was able to relax on a cozy bed and the room included some dog bowls for food and water too. We only stayed for one night and it was clean, warm, and comfortable. Quaint, pretty and spacious little Inn right across from the Ferry, so really no need to drive anywhere if you don’t want to. There are several great restaurants just a few feet away. Everyone is so kind and helpful. The rooms are plenty big enough, especially since you pretty much just sleep in them. There is sitting room in the room itself, but there are also beautiful sitting/lounging rooms throughout the Inn and beautiful decks for enjoying the gorgeous views. Breakfast is included as a buffet and is honestly one of the best breakfasts I have ever had!! Bikes are included also, if you are so inclined. 5 Stars all the way! Just love this little place!

My family of 5 had a lovely stay at Woods Hole Inn. The staff were friendly and very helpful and the rooms were clean, spacious and lovely. The location is unbeatable in Woods Hole. If you are planning to work here, consider other places. The employees fight and bicker, playing mind games and overall being disrespectful to each other. People quit halfway through a journey on the ship, and they terminate people without telling them, forcing employees to learn of their termination through rumors and other employees. This place is doing great work, I'm sure, in spite of the huge complexity of coordinating among the 60-odd institutions that make use of their facilities and personnel. But it's not necessarily a good place to visit as a tourist, at least not during the summer. We signed up for the walking tour, and while the guide was patient and full of stories about the history of the local area, he knew very little about the workings of The Institute or the research that that they perform there. The really interesting ships, Alvin and Atlantis and Neil Armstrong, were all out on missions, and we weren't allowed in any of the research areas. Which is understandable.

Sadly they are one of organizations that have accepted wind industry donations which is killing whales, dolphins and is going to destroy the fishing industry, and whole marine ecosystem if plans go through to build thousands of these wind turbines up and down the coast from Maine to North Carolina. Wind is not green or clean energy. And off shore wind turbines are one of the worst things for the planet. * Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute received a donation of $500,000 from Ørsted - an offshore wind company - in or after 2018. Woods Hole has endorsed offshore wind since at least 2019. They are hypocrites to not advocate for the oceans and all this organization cares about is money. They do not care about the ocean.

Lovely hidden gem in Falmouth/Woods Hole area. There were several benches along the trails where you can sit and look out at Oyster pond. I loved the butterfly garden and saw many Monarch butterflies there. I also liked the collection of anchors. Only downside is that along the inner trails it was a bit buggy, but that wouldn’t stop me from coming back or recommending this place. Its a nonprofit trust, so please consider donating to the box at the entrance to help the volunteers maintain this garden.

A gorgeous garden area to wander around. Big enough that you're not right on top of other groups, but small enough to see everything in 1-1.5 hours of slow walking and sign reading. Suitable for kids but there isn't anything that is geared towards them specifically. The main paths are mowed grass and are relatively flat, so suitable for anyone who is comfortable traversing relatively flat ground. There are steeper and rockier trails off to the sides which are more challenging. The butterfly garden was our favorite part and a volunteer was there to take his time explaining the projects they have going on. All in all well worth it. Toss some money on their donation jar so they can keep up the good work.

This place is awesome and I'm glad I stumbled upon it while in the cape last weekend. I really enjoyed walking around here even though it is not a massive place with tons of trails. Spohr gardens felt like it had meaning to it and I liked the story behind how it came to be. You can tell Charlie and Margaret Spohr definitely put alot of time into acquiring all the different notical pieces, trees, and flowers throughout the property. I've never seen so many anchors in one place. To know when they were made and where they all came from was impressive. I saw a bunch of different flowers growing all over as I was walking through the trails. They had a few different benches and tables to sit at. The view from the dock overlooking the pond was nice.

Such a magical place to visit. Sweet history of a couple very much in love as these gardens tell their "story". I especially loved the the dock area with all the anchors lined up along the waterline. They were collected through the years from several ships and their "back story" is written down for each one. It doesn't cost anything but donations are always welcome and I'm sure much appreciated. Definitely a place I recommend to visit with the family, your significant other or even by yourself. It's a short peaceful and beautiful walk through "history"....

Spohr Gardens are beautiful even during a hot & humid July heatwave. The refreshing shade, provided by American Holly, Oak, Birch, Maples and large Rhododendron among other mature trees and shrubs made the breeze, and beautiful landscape and perennials in bloom were enjoyable to observe. This is a wonderful way to enjoy the history of a well loved and maintained garden with clear signs directing you on the various paths throughout the garden. We enjoy our walk and the eight swans that were snacking nearby were an added treat to enjoy. As we completed our visit other guests were arriving for an afternoon wedding ceremony. There is also an outdoor portable bathroom.

This was our second time here, first with a couple friends. We had a flight as well as our friends, which is great because they give you a wine glass that you basically pay for with the flight. They have a little cafe there to order food and a live band this time.

The Cape Cod Winery is an absolute delight. We visited during our anniversary trip to the Cape, and it was such a fun atmosphere! The wine flights were great, and we loved the slushees. There was a food truck on-site, and the gift shop was small but cute. Loved the little “insta-worthy” touches. And it was nice to walk through the vineyard area.

Tons of seating and warm fire pits for winter nights and easy to access along Falmouth. The only thing not great was bathrooms are portable potties. So be prepared for that if you are expecting to use a bathroom.

What a charming roadside spot! We stopped in after a long drive to the Cape and had a great time playing cornhole, listening to live music and enjoying some wine on a warm summer day. Great chill afternoon. We actually went on long weekend and it rained so was bit chilly. But they have nice outdoor space with fire heaters on table and floor. The music and vibe is relaxing. The wines are tasteful too, I loved their Pinot Grigio. Wolf pizza is a cart brick oven pizza. It was very tasteful, we tried veggies one and vodka sauce one. Vodka sauce one killed it :)

Nice beach! During the summer weekends it gets crowded but is worth it. They have a hot dog truck and there's a little rocks when you first get ut but after like 4 feet it becomes nice and sandy. Limited seaweed.

Great little beach, especially around sunset. Resident sticker is required during the daytime in the summer months. We did see some crabs and may have seen some jellyfish on the beach so just keep an eye out when walking on the beach or hanging out in the water.

I’ve been going to Woodneck Beach for almost 20 years and it’s always been a fantastic spot for exploration. At high tide Woodneck has amazing sheltered swimming and snorkeling in the saltwater marsh, and at low time the marsh partially drains leaving an awesome area to play with young children un shallow water. As the tide comes and goes, the channel (that separates bay from marsh) flows either in towards the marsh or out towards the bay (which makes for good floating). Also, the saltwater marsh behind Woodneck Beach has a nice sandy bottom that’s perfect for walking around and exploring.

Someone once told us it was the best beach for kids, and we agree! My kids love to hunt for crabs, jellyfish, mino's, and shrimp at low tide and boogie down the natural lazy river at high tide. There are porta potties and a shower. The ice cream truck usually shows up a couple times too!

Lovely beach especially for young children & families. At Low tide several shallow tidal pools appear & the kids love to play in that area. The pools harbor little critters like hermit crabs! The surf is not too rough at high tide but the sand is somewhat rocky. This is one of my Sisters' favorite beaches. The sun sets are beautiful over Buzzrds Bay. Falmouth beach sticker required for free parking.

This is a beach for a lazy family day riding the tide in and out of the marsh. If it's really low tide this is a great beach to let the kids loose to catch hermit crabs and pick up shells...might find you have a future ocean biologist on your hands...could go study at nearby MBL when they get older? This is a family favorite beach on the Cape.
