Fascinating and poignant place of history. Strangely elegant, beautifully decorated and extremely well maintained property (even the public restrooms were immaculate). The guides were very friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed talked with the other staff in the gift shop about the history of the how Longwood was saved. And while there was no discussion of any mysterious or ghostly activity I still found it to be a somber story and haunting atmosphere. We went in mid March, so the flowers were in bloom. It was a cool and cloudy day and the crisp breezes of spring blowing through the giant Oaks draped with Spanish Moss added an aire of eeriness and mystique to this truly unique walk through the past. I'd highly recommend it for any history buff, architecture aficionado or lover of the strange and unusual.

The house itself is a very impressive structure and the history of the building and those who lived there is certainly interesting. However, the tour was very expensive and pretty rushed. And more importantly it was very one sided and pretty whitewashed. The historically proven dark side of the families slavery history was almost completely ignored and the tour guide kept insisting on how well the family treated the enslaved people they owned. This is abhorrent considering the bad reputation of the families head in dealing with his slaves. Also I felt like the guide was embellishing a lot on other aspects of the history of the house and the tour was not particularly historically accurate and did not give a very nuanced depiction of the realities of the civil war.

Interesting place. Tour is a bit pricey but glad to help preserve this piece of architectural history. Great views from the property. Tours are scheduled every half hour so waiting wasn't bad. Cute little gift shop. Restrooms are available on the property.

This house is a must visit if you are in the area. Was never finished because of the civil war but the story behind it is fascinating. We loved our tour guide who was clearly passionate about it and gave us a great tour!

We were told that if we only visited one mansion in Natchez, make sure that it was Longwood. It certainly didn't disappoint. The one hour tour was informative, insightful, and entertaining. We learned of the family's history, and the history of the construction of Longwood. The largest octagonal home in America.

Beautiful! Even being unfinished, it's stunning. the guide was so informative and knowledgeable. It's the most unique home I've ever been in.

If you are "into" historical architecture, you should definitely visit Longwood. This is an excellent example of how war and personal health can impact the best laid plans. Longwood was never finished. It is nothing more than a historical shell of grandiose plans. Part of me is disappointed that the home was never finished because it is hard to imagine the grandeur that would have resulted. However, seeing the craftsmanship that went into the bare bones of the house is truly amazing. I highly recommend a tour unless you have absolutely no imagination as to what could have been. And, the story of the family and how the home ended up as a national treasure is endearing. Don't forget to visit the family cemetery just a short stroll from the front door.

It's really too bad the place wasn't fully completed. You should know before visiting that you're going to see a house with only the basement finished. The first and second floors are unfinished. But the history is quite unique and this is still the largest octagonal house in the US. Lovely grounds. Price a bit high but worth a visit.

It's a very interesting place, I just found it by looking at interesting places to visit on Google maps and here you go, an interesting place indeed. Kudos for the guide, who did an excellent job explaining everything about the place. Very interesting indeed. At first the price was a bit high at $25 a head, but understandable if you take into account what it takes to maintain the whole thing.

Decided to take off for the day and ended up staying the night in Natchez, Mississippi. Longwood was the first place we visited. A 45-minute tour of the place was well worth it. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history. Sorry, I forgot your name.

One of the reasons I came to Natchez was to see the Longwood plantation home. The tour was very informative about who designed the house, the building of the house, and the family history. I highly recommend adding this to your list of things to see and do in Natchez.

This was an amazing stop in Natchez. Except for the guard at the entrance, where you purchased your tickets, everyone was very friendly and knowledgeable. The tour was great, as was the story about the house. Going up to the unfinished part of the house was so very interesting. They also have a nice gift shop. Even the short drive to and from the house is scenic. This is a must-see location in Natchez, I hope that you will not miss this interesting location.

My daughter, son-in-law, and I visited today. Our guide Courtney was amazing. She brought the Nutt family alive and educated us on the history of Natchez. The tour is worth the price of admission.

I really have a mixed review for Stanton Hall, because some of it is more for the Pilgrimage group who maintains it. This was my 3rd visit to Natchez, but the first in about 19 years. I was sad to see some of the favorites being neglected. Our first order of business on this trip was the carriage ride to see the layout of the city and give my kids an overview of Natchez. I was shocked when we passed alongside Stanton. I know that Stanton is the most iconic Natchez Antebellum home and one of the most extravagant. So it really struck me to see not only badly peeling stucco/paint on a street-facing wall, but also one shutter completely falling apart. I am well aware that the upkeep of these places is astronomical and time consuming. But when you're talking about arguably the biggest draw of the Pilgrimage tours, this is really unacceptable. What really blew my mind, though, was when I went into the Pilgrimage Tours office to purchase the 3-house tour package, I mentioned to the lady at the front desk that I was dismayed at Stanton being in bad shape on the outside. A woman in a back office called out, "STANTON?" She came out of the office and declared that "Stanton is NOT in bad shape!" Umm...ok. I have uploaded pictures of the outside. I was clear that it wasn't ALL in bad shape, but considering the property in question, what I see here is "bad shape." Of course, most of the house is still magnificent and awe-inspiring. (I will say, though, that I'm sure we did not see everything we saw when we toured years ago.) The issues in these pictures are not hard to remedy. I would think that such highly visible damage would be first priority of repair. Again, I will clarify that I understand overall the place is in fantastic shape for its age and magnitude. It's probably in better shape than my house. But I don't live in a major tourist attraction.

Such a great tour and Mikah was amazing!!! The house is beautiful and the garden society did a beautiful job restoring and preserving the property.

This old Antebellum mansion in Natchez is absolutely the best one to check out if you're only going to go to one of them. Our guide, a former professional musician from New Orleans, was extremely knowledgeable and the building and furniture and grounds are awesome to see. By the way if you have bicycles be sure to drive around the city and especially go check out the huge cemetery as it is absolutely worth a visit.

The home takes up an entire city block. Beautiful home and grounds. The guides, dressed in period clothing were informative. Sad that photography was not permitted inside the home.

What an wonderful trip back in time we had on this amazing tour. Our tour guide was exceptional. She had a wealth of knowledge. You could tell she loved sharing it. Every question she was asked she was able to address. I am so glad my husband and I took the tour.

Very nicely preserved antebellum home. This one has a complete restoration so it's really worth seeing. I had a marvelous docent who was very well-versed in the history and was quite articulate with his presentation. It's pricey, but worth seeing at least once.

This was such an informative tour. The house was impressive. I learned some interesting local history. The giant mirrors inside are breathtaking. The tour guide was knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions the group had. He also knew a lot about furniture and decor styles during different eras. You have to buy your tickets in the gift shop. The tours are done every 30 minutes. The outdoor grounds are free and there is also a restaurant near the gift shop. You cannot take any photos on the inside.

I was here for a wedding reception. This is an amazing place. Great room / space to move around. Staff was super friendly. Highly recommended for parties or receptions. Hope to be back again for another great time.

Stanton Hall is such a great place as the house and grounds are pristine and immaculate. The city of Natchez along the Mississippi River is a must-see with so much history and charm.

I came on a Saturday hoping to get information on things to do in the area and see what else they offer only to find out they were closed for HVAC repairs. Good thing this was not the only thing I came for in the area, but still disappointing.

Every itself was great. But when you walk in and go to the right. Theres a long desk. There was a lady behind there that clearly needs a job without people. She looked up at like we were idiots while we were asking about the different tours and restaurants. May be easy for locals. But we are visiting. First person in 2 days that was terrible. Even people on the street were more helpful then her. This lady had long hair (I say this because there were 2 behind the desk). If you want information. Don't ask her.

I stop here often when I go to Natchez. The staff is always friendly and accomodating. They also have a good selection of historical Mississippi books and I usually find one that I just have to get.

Great starting point to learn about the city of Natchez. The national park shares the building with the city. I do not recommend the hop on hop off bus tour. There is plenty of parking and most of the city is in walking distance.

Great place to start your historic tour of Natchez and the entire area. Knowledgeable staff and many informative displays. The gift shop is also first rate with many unique and original item you won’t find elsewhere. Get a great view of the river.

Dito "magnificent visitors center" and echo the sentiments that Natchez is worth visiting. The visitors center is the place to start your visit to Natchez. There are double decker on/off tour busses you can take from the Center. Hiking around the old town was very pleasant with good food and coffee stops. There is a lot of fascinating history there given that Natchez is one of only 3 surviving antebellum cities; Charlestown and Savannah being the other two. The horrors of slavery become evident in the excellent exhibit in the Center where the details of slavery emerge on multiple levels. There are many plaques on the walking tour which indicate how well the African American community progressed itself in Natchez which perhaps makes it different than other places in the deep south? Definitely start your visit to Natchez at the visitors center.

The entire visitor center located here was closed when we came through (and i believe it will be for a significant amount of time for renovations.) But the lady sitting outside in 90 degree heat was super nice and helpful. She deserves 5 stars on her own!

Large, spacious place to cool off and learn about the history of the area. Park store and stamps are here, along with some of the friendliest staff members who are happy to help.

Nice place to come and learn some local history as well as pick up some local travel brochures. The lady at the desk asked if I needed any help or had any questions. I asked if she knew how busy the campgrounds were on the Natchez Trace this time of year, and she looked at me like I had 3 eyes & 6 ears. Wasn't very helpful and almost a bit condescending to me.

Typical plantation home tour. No egregious glorification of the era like I have seen elsewhere, but also no acknowledgement of any enslaved person presence on the property; the tour guide euphemistically referred to "servants". Interesting story about how the Confederate women in the house coexisted with the Union high officers and a good view of the river. Period bits and bobs are in display cases throughout, so it's less set up like it would be in the day and more like a house with room-appropriate furniture + a museum of dolls, sugar shakers, and so forth. The furniture is 90% original, which is very unusual for houses of this era. Not sure it's worth the high price, but I felt that way about every place we went. $20+ is a bit much for a 45 minute tour with little chance for free exploration except on the grounds and kitchen house. Note that tours are only offered at the top of the hour. You wait on the porch about 5 minutes before and they open the doors. There's no signage and the site does not make this clear. Other houses have yours at the top and half of the hour so if you're trying to visit multiple houses plan accordingly.

This beautiful old mansion sits on a hilltop overlooking the Mississippi. It was suggested to us by a National Park ranger because nearly all the furnishing inside are original to this house. The tour lasted 1-hour and was only $20. The tour guide was good. The house is owned by the Mississippi State DAR.

We loved our tour of the Rosalie Mansion! Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. No matter how hard we tried to stump him with questions, he always had an insightful story to add to the answer. This is a great addition to anyone checking out the town by river cruise, or just passing through. There are no photos allowed inside, so you will just have to enjoy my photos of the exterior of this gorgeous mansion.

This house was beautiful and their collection of original furniture can’t be matched. The history of the families that lived there is entertaining the last ladies that lived there were very interesting. This house did not have electricity, running water, or an attached kitchen and the people lived there up into the 1970s! I can’t wrap my mind around it. Again, it’s beautiful and worth the visit.

It was interesting to explore this historic cemetery. There is a sign with a QR code and brochure at the main entrance. Scan the QR code to buy the online video tour, and the brochure has the online driving tour map.

Beautiful cemetery, but fairly odd to navigate through. Google Maps isn't correct with roads and paths. One way streets that you don't know are one way until you're at the end or at an intersection of the road. I'll be back when I have more time to spend and enjoy it more.

The Natchez City Cemetery is a beautiful and historical cemetery that anyone can visit. There are so many monuments to see. P.S. The wifey and I are really not weird people. We just love to visit cemeteries, especially the older ones.

The cemetery itself is very beautiful. Lots of unique art forms. The reason my review is not a five star, is the map gotten at the visitor center is not very good. For example number 1 is number 22. The map just doesn't line up with the cemetery itself.

A must see when in Natchez. A beautiful, quiet place. Stop by the cemetery office and get a map then enjoy every stop. Amazing stories and beautiful old gravesites will captivate you. The lanes are narrow but we had no trouble maneuvering through. Go check out this historic treasure!

This place was unique and full of history . It was interesting reading all the stories . Although I enjoyed looking at the beautiful monuments, I just couldn’t help but to feel sad after reading the stories behind some of the grave sites . This is a must see place !

Paid audio tour is excellent when you can get it! Verizon cellular and mobile phones using Verizon towers (Xfinity) do not have enough service in that area so expect tremendous amount of buffering and no response when you contact their technical support. What we were able to hear was well done and entertaining.

I love cemeteries...love to take pictures of statues ...this is beautiful, peaceful and with incredible history, and I got and amazing picture of an angel statue.

Owned by the National Park Service and FREE tours were conducted hourly but limited to 10 people so making this your 1st stop of the day and get your names on the list for one of the tours. Like the Rosalie Mansion, the Melrose Mansion is furnished with most items original to the house. It is very grand inside and the ranger leading our tour was excellent.

Definitely add this stop to your Natchez trip. The park rangers are super informative and bring the home to life—as you listen to their stories you can picture the families roaming about the house and what daily life was like. The grounds are impressive and you can see all the outbuildings, garden and orchards for no fee. The fee to get in the house is reasonable at just 10 dollars for about a 1 hour tour. Another pat on the back for the NPS preserving and sharing a part of our history.

While we didn't have time for the tour of the house inside, we toured the grounds. Not only is it a beautiful place, but they have done an excellent job of presenting history with an unbiased, unromanticized view of the antebellum south. The information is frank and straightforward about what life was like for all the inhabitants, not just the wealthy white owners.

What a gem! And a surprise! In the area touring other homes when my sister and I learned of this one owned and operated by the National Parks Service. Tours are free. A wonderful unexpected addition to my love for the area, the homes, the Park Service in helping preserve the history for us! Thank you!

We enjoyed a free tour of the house given by a park ranger who was very knowledgeable and clearly fascinated by the period he was talking about. The rest of the property is self-guided using QR codes which take you to pages telling you about what you're looking at. Free entry to the house and gardens. Tours are given every hour.

Stunning and beautiful church. A must see and it is free!

Quite possibly the most beautiful cathedral I've been in in the USA, its only rival being that in Santa Fe NM. The church was open during a rainstorm, which I appreciated, and there's a lovely little garden around the side.

Classically beautiful church with colorful and detailed artwork and statuary. I attended Sunday Mass there and was shocked with the liturgy. It was like the 1950s. It was an absolutely archaic and meaningless experience. There was Gregorian chant in several places and the priest even chanted the gospel, instead of reading it. He also had to read his entire sermon, and was lost if he looked up for even a second. You don't need to light 33 candles or do incensing several times to have a meaningful experience. The organist blasted every song with the seeming intention of blowing out all the windows -- it was way too loud for such a small church. It actually hurt one's ears. It would have been too loud for an open air stadium. There was nothing about the ceremony or the priest that actually connected with or spoke to the people there. If you decide to visit this classic and beautiful church, do so during the week, in bright sunshine so you'll get to see the effects of the stained glass. But by all means avoid attending Mass there.

We were most impressed by this church on a recent visit. The church was under renovation so we could not go it. One of the workers volunteered to take my phone and get a few pictures of the inside, Beautiful grounds as well.

Gorgeous and surprisingly open. Reminds us of Basilica’s in Spain but more low key. It’s a beautifully designed and well kept place, serene and calm.

Sacred, holy, pristine. Some sweet church members were standing outside when we went by and they invited us in to look around. I've seen a lot of beautiful churches in my life, but this one might be the most ornate! It's definitely worth a visit while you're in Natchez.

We visited here for Easter Sunday. Even though we aren't Catholic, we felt very welcome and the service was beautiful. The basilica itself is stunning.

Stopped by to see the inside - missed the mass due to holiday. Spectacular inside and the Bishops garden was beautiful. Well worth the stop to say "HI" to Jesus!!

Masterpiece of religious devotion. The basilica is breathtakingly stunning in craftsmanship and art.

This site is quite amazing. The view and location show how life might have been. The mound is quite space to walk across. Watch your feet and legs. Make sure you take your time walking through the tall grass. We were completely safe to walk on the mound. We just took our time to take it all in.

WOW!!!!!!! We learned this is the SECOND LARGEST MOUND in the USA. The SIZE IS WOW!!!! The road driving to the mound has alot of pot holes and in poor repair. Need a SIGN NOTICEABLE from the Natchez Trace Parkway to help driver's turn onto correct road.

Beautiful mound. It's incredibly impressive that something so huge was created with no heavy machinery. It was very serene, and I enjoyed imagining what it must have been like hundreds of years ago.

This is the second largest Native American mound site in the United States, so it is a must see! It is very peaceful and a short drive off the Natchez Trace, but a great stop. I enjoyed climbing up to the first level of the mound and looking out. A nice place to spend a bit of time and read up on the mound building culture of these tribes.

The importance of this sites is why I rate it a 5. When arriving understand this is a small yet significant indigenous. I wish there was a souvenir shop.

Incredible place to visit. Less than 5 minutes off the Natchez Trace. 8 acre mound made by hand. We were the only people out there and it felt incredible to walk around and imagine all the things that happened in the past.

The 2nd largest Indian Mound in the US and its definitely a sight to see. I wish I had known you can go on top of it from the trail to the left of the parking lot. Don't be fooled by the road getting there, it's just a country backroad. Don't speed, wave at the people and enjoy the trip. The Mound was a lot bigger than I expected and closer to the parking lot than I figured it would be. Definitely don't skip out on this mound!

Great quick historical visit. The trek up isn't too bad but it is rather steep even with the paved walkway going up to the first level. I continued up the second mound at sat where i imagined they might have 100's of years ago. It was beautiful. Then i walked the length of it toward the east. It's hard to capture the scale of it in a picture. The lower platform is about 1.7x the size of a football field lol. Loved it, plan to visit more mounds! Maybe Monks mound in Cahokia is next..

It's amazing to think that this was all done by hand but there's not much to it besides looking at a big, grassy hill. I'm glad I saw it but we didn't stay long...

I only saw one room with lots of text (aside from the very large gift shop.) Free standing posters, display cases of documents, and a handwritten diary volume. Some reviewers mentioned an upstairs. I never saw how to get there. I admire the role of this diary in illustrating the author’s unique experience. But a roomful of text is not my cup of tea. Try to avoid days with riverboat passenger tours.

I honestly don’t know why this place isn’t at least4.5 stars. It’s five in my book. Free self guided tour. It was such a enjoyable experience. So much information along with neat artifacts tied to the site. So much eye opening history. Definitely worth a stop! Ranger was also very helpful

The William Johnson house was a interesting museum. It was free and well kept. There is a upstairs component that allows you to see how he lived. Very interesting. Will take about 30 minutes to a house to go through the museum.

This is an important part of history. Was owned by "The Barber of Natchez", a pre-civil war free black man. He owned several successful businesses. I worked there during the restoration.

We always make a visit here without fail. So glad his family has shared the letters Mr. Johnson wrote with the public.

Perfect location for a Natchez trip. Everything we needed was in walking distance although we did make constant use of the shuttle which took us anywhere and picked us up everywhere. All the staff was top notch both is service and attitude. The continental breakfast was the best I have ever seen. I haven't seen many but they had a lot more than just cereal an bagels. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Natchez.

Stayed here on our last day of vacation. Our room on the third floor overlooked the pool. It was very nice and clean, spotless. Beds were super clean and comfy, plenty of towels and hot water. Loved the fact a coffee maker was provided. The provided breakfast was awesome, nice and hot and lots to choose from. From the front desk employee to the employees serving breakfast everyone was very friendly. Didn’t get her name but kudos to the breakfast cook. Will stay here again if we go back to Natchez

I don’t know if I have ever before been in a hotel with such lovely, kind people on staff. My husband had just completed the 444 miles of the Natchez Trace on a bicycle, so we arrived in need of a low-stress, high-comfort rest. Despite being fully booked, the kind woman at the desk worked hard to get us an early check-in. When our take-out dinner didn’t include utensils, another woman at the desk went to the kitchen and found us what we needed. Another member of staff was present at breakfast and was SO FRIENDLY, greeting all customers and making sure we had what we needed. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfy, location is fine, but the staff and their amazing customer service makes this place special. This place is doing something right in terms of staff training and development, or maybe they’re just hiring really nice people. I would go out of my way to stay here again.

I can't say enough about this hotel! It was expensive compared to other Best Westerns but....Nice clean rooms with hardwood floors. With all the bedbugs reviews now, it was nice to know that these rooms were cleaner with hardwood floors! Had fridge and microwave in room and had a desk, 2 chairs and a table. Lots of room to spread out. The only negative...why it doesn't get five stars, is we got a room with a VERY NOISY AC system, so every time it turned on, brought up the volume in the room significantly. The maintenance man they sent up said the hotel had been informed about this room needed this unit replaced but obviously had not done anything about the issue; and obviously we were not the only people that had complained. But since the hotel was full with busloads of tourists, they couldn't move us to another room. The lobby was HUGE and plenty of comfortable seating and tables. The breakfast was great and enough food to fill you up. Staff super friendly and helpful.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone! The staff is so welcoming and friendly. They go above and beyond to make sure that their guests are well taken care of. I also love the modern look of the hotel. The hotel's atmosphere creates a warm and comfortable feeling. I'm looking forward to the next stay!

The staff deserves a 10 star rating! I do a fair bit of travelling and I have never been so kindly welcomed. The room was clean with a view of the Mississippi River. If you like to walk to town it is doable, if not the shuttle was always available. My only complaint, the ice machine did not work on our floor.

Great stay even though it was only one night. The room was clean, beds comfortable and the shower was hot. Front desk staff was friendly and the check-in and checkout was quick and easy. Location is great, close to everything you need. I'll definitely be staying there again the next time I'm in Natchez.

This was a great place close to many restaurants and historic places. There is no traffic noise, which is great. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was clean and not outdated, as I see in many hotels.

My company forgot to book us, so I'm just glad they had a room for us. The front desk crew was fabulous. They helped in every way they could to get us taken care of. The issues I had were with the room itself; no iron, mildew around the tub, very dim lighting and no luggage carts. I was able to borrow an iron from a coworker in another room at the last minute, and spray bleach cleaner around the bathtub. However, the luggage cart situation was a real pain in the butt.

THE CASINO IS NOT LOCATED AT THE HOTEL!!! Very disappointed to arrive and realize the casino is located down the hill of the Grand Hotel. Other than that it's nice, clean, has a beautiful pool area with a great breakfast. Just don't expect to be gambling there.

Not a comfortable stay for me and my family. Traveled almost 8 hours just to be put in the wrong room, reservation mix up. The young lady that checked us in did her best to help the situation - we greatly appreciated her. No other staff followed through with moving us for the weekend. I had to constantly go check to see if we could be moved. The room flooded, nothing worked properly in the room. We were very understanding that things happen. They reassured us we'd be taken care of. That, unfortunately wasn't the case. Lesson learned.

Clean, comfortable hotel. Good location for tourists. Breakfast was good and especially want to commend Cynthia who showed Southern hospitality and kindness above and beyond what I’ve experienced at most hotels. Enjoyed talking with her and appreciated her helpfulness and friendly smile!

Had a great stay. The staff was wonderful, room was good, breakfast was good, good price, location was perfect for where I was going. Will definitely be staying everytime me and my husband come to Natchez from now on. Will be back in July and will definitely check the pool out.

Rooms were adaquite, fridge and microwave; no room service, no daily room check or cleaning. Good morning breakfast free with some choices. Great location within walking distance. Good rates.

Great location and staff but the rooms are seriously in need of updates. While the lobby and public areas are nice, the rooms have seen better days. It seems as though there's some cutting back on some of the amenities we've come to expect there. Sadly, I've had to update my previous review.

Not even in walking of casino, they did offer free transportation. The one time we asked for it, they had to go hunt down someone, so we drove ourselves. Had to ask for extra room coffee and no one could find any. Breakfast was top notch, pool looked really nice and parking lots very clean. Lighting in the room to dim to work by. Front desk could not make reservation for second day, told me to do it online, then our room was not cleaned for the 2nd day. They did bring us fresh towels when we got back very late and we told them to leave the bed as is.

This hotel was lacking nothing. The rooms are spacious and the employees are so friendly. Every hotel needs a Ms. Cynthia. She attended to the breakfast buffet. She was 10 steps ahead of everything. And very prompt to everyone needs. Great job 👏 👍 Ms. CYNTHIA. Give this young lady a raise. She knows her job. Love that they offer a shuttle from the hotel to the casino. But the young man that was the driver too notch. Thanks 😊

This hotel is convenient because it has quick access to the highway I travel to get to my work location when I’m on a business trip. It is near three good restaurants I have eaten at and they are: Magnolia Grill, Champs and Moo’s Barbecue Grill. They are all located within 5 minutes away. My room experience has been very good, it is always clean! They serve an amazing free breakfast with the most friendliest staff serving the food.

We felt very comfortable from the time that we checked in to time that we checked out. Staff were very friendly and helpful. This hotel is clean, updated and even has great Breakfast. Easy to tell that the staff are great people and not fake about their friendliness. Will absolutely stay here again. 5☆ from me and my husband.

Our room was clean but quite dated with scarred furniture. Breakfast was good. But the reason for this review was the bed. Remember when you were a kid and slept in grandma's spare bed. The one with the mattress that was all broken down. Where everyone slanted to the middle and when one of you moved, everyone moved? Well the king size bed in our room was like that. A broken down, way too soft, back killer. The worst mattress I've experienced since grandma's house!!!

Christmas trip , first time visiting. Check-in was easy and the receptionist was polite, friendly and welcoming. Breakfast staff were also friendly and courteous , nice, clean and spacious area to enjoy your breakfast. My room was clean and comfortable. A very quiet floor and camera provided a sense of safety. Will plan to return on my next visit.

Interesting visit. There is not much to see, but the hosts were great and so welcoming. It provides a great opportunity to learn more about the Natchez's history.

The history of the location is certainly interesting, however when you visit it's not exactly exciting. You view a large groomed grass lot with a couple of grassy mounds. The visitors center has some interesting displays and an informative film. The little known story of the Natchez tribe attack against the French and the French genocide is not highlighted.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. The lady at the visitor center was very friendly and also the fact that the place was free was very nice. It's a nice place where you can have a walk and learn a bit about the Natchez indians who had their religious centre here.

Beautiful area in a clearing with 2 rather large and noticable mounds, and one (or two i honestly can't remember) other mound that's much smaller. The mounds are aligned north-south with the larger mound being the southernmost. There are also half a dozen, information packed, signs along a hint of a path between and around the mounds. Nicely sized parking lot with a building (that i did not go into) that has bathrooms for public use.

I visited here after visiting a couple of other places and was kind of disappointed prior to coming here. This place was delightful, and I am so very glad I stopped by. A lovely lady was working the front, gave pamphlets on the area, and information about the Village. There is a long history here, and an amazing spot. If you are in the area, I highly suggest you come here and take a look around. Watch the short film and then walk around the mounds. I would suggest wearing comfortable shoes and drinking plenty of water while here.

Great little museum & gift shop. Very detail oriented staff. A short film with more Indian artifacts in the movie room. This is free but they do have a gift shop & will take donations. Outdoors area has signs to direct you to the mounds

This is a case of local tourism promotion maintaining a very minor historical site. This screams out conflict of interest. if you want to actually do something here that matters, engage with local tribal people and make a difference. The language in the museum feels racist and drips with white man bias. The more I reflected on this site, the more I was offended. More: I went and engaged with the white woman running the museum. She told me that groundbreaking for a new museum is planned for next year and that representatives of the Natchez people are involved. I hope that far far more nuanced, culturally respectful content is developed.

Family friendly educational experience. Trails to walk and sites to see.

Watch the video, very informative. Nice artifacts on display, and Indian jewelry for sale. We arrived at closing time and will return to walk around the mounds.

We thoroughly enjoyed the museum and Grand village experience. We learned about the traditions and writings before we went outside and walked the grounds. Though there are no homes or a temple on the mounds, you get a feel for how the Natchez Indians relied on the land. There was also a food dessert demonstration when we’re visiting. We watched and learn how to make Grape dumplings from two women who are descendants of Natchez Indians. We had many neighbors and people from Natchez who returned to support the village and the activities there. The staff were also very knowledgeable and helpful. The lady behind the counter was extremely friendly and always had a warm smile.

Highly informative museum with contemplative walk outside. It brought a tear to my eye as I reflected on the colonial experience of my own country. I recommend going here so we never forget these incredibly sad stories and do we also get to honour the past and the resilience of the present.

Great experience and wonderful preservation of history. Welcome center to the village is very nice and staff is exceptionally friendly. The visitor center should be the first stop there as it provides you with all the needed information when exploring the mounds. The mounds were spectacular and awespiring to see and learn how the Natchez Indians social system worked.

A Beautiful Cemetery in a prominent place. Very well maintained...!!!!

Beautifully kept and well organized. For safety purposes, the ongoing bluff stabilization project has limited the scenic oversight of the Mississippi. Once the project is completed, expect a supremely scenic location honoring service members and their families.

It’s small, but very pretty and well maintained.

I visited on Mother’s Day and several elderly, separate individuals placed flowers on headstones in a solemn, loving way. As I walked by one elderly African American woman, I said hello and continued photographing the white headstones in a brilliant, blue sky and was centered on sunny yellow flowers on one grave. I commented to her how striking the flowers looked. She said that was her mother’s resting place and she forgot to take a picture while she was there but she couldn’t go down again so I offered to photograph her precious mother’s grave which I did. We talked a long time after sharing our histories in such a familiar way as if we had known each other for years. Natchez Cemetery will always be special to me because of her love and adoration for a mother who was long gone but not in spirit.

Beautiful, calm and serene. Well kept, and historic. Took a drive through and walked some. Always interesting to read some headstones. You see the various family names through history from the area, and sometimes short stories of their lives. Very interesting place.

Very well kept grounds and neatly laid out to honor those buried here. It feels like a small Arlington along the Mississippi.

Lovely church, and we loved the photo museum - so evocative and shows such an array of the people and places of Natchez

We read online about the historical photography in the back section of the church and wanted to see this exhibit. We had missed it on our first visit to the city a few years ago. We park and walk up to the doors but they were locked. We knocked and knocked but nothing. There was a red bus stop (the hop on/off tourist bus) right there, so they know people may stop by. I checked the hours on the door and we were within those hours. I'm not sure what was going on. We will have to try again at a later visit.

Very pretty old place with a great photo museum.

We visited on a Saturday and I had an opportunity to chat at length with one of the volunteers who was extremely knowledgeable and informative. The displays themselves are also quite good. Highly recommend this small museum and be sure to give a donation as it is free otherwise.

I enjoyed the museum. I've been to Natchez many times but had never been to the museum. They had a lot of cool artifacts and displays. They played a nice video, and the guy was very informative. I would definitely visit again, and it was free.

Natchez Museum-African American Culture was worth our time to learn about Natchez early slave trade and dependence on slavery. The museum is free and doesn’t take very long. I’m glad we visited.

This was a great museum and the gentleman at the front was really great about explaining different things in the museum if you had a question. It's in an old post office so that's a super cool bonus.

Absolutely amazing, so much detailed information! This is a MUST stop if you visit Mississippi. Founded by a group of women to share information to the masses who will listen. It's free but they take donations, you could spend hours in here reading everything. They have a WONDERFUL book collection.

Excellent museum with a rich array of artefacts and exhibits. Please make time to visit and to listen to the museum director speak before leaving. Free entry.

This little museum is a must see. The museum had displays, artifacts, and written history to educate the public on the trials and advancements of the black folk throughout history. We did tour some of the plantation homes, which were very educational, but we learned more about the area history both here and at the First Presbyterian Church photo history of Natchez. The 2nd floor of the church has a lot of photos showing the lives of citizens throughout multiple decades of the 1800’s and early 1900’s. These places open your eyes to another side of history that is not spoken about in schools, in the media, or on the streets. This goes for both the good and bad.

A very unique museum that expanded my understanding of Natchez and its history and its people. A must see for anyone interested in gaining a better understanding of American history.

Great tasting Muscadines wines. The dry Noble is very tasty. If you think of Muscadine wine as sweet and yellow this will change your mind. Very friendly owner willing to share a lot of "Muscadine Knowledge". My wife and I have been to over 100 small winery tasting rooms around the country, Many of them are amazing in what a vision and a desire to make good wine can do The tasting room has a few opportunities to increase the appeal to a broader audience, but if looking for a "local gem", this is the place.

Excellent service, Diane and Scott were great hosts. We tasted 5 different wines per person and purchased 12 that we liked. Life is good.

I was disappointed that all that is there is a grass lot and information panels. This little parcel of land was the location of and the center of so much suffering. The National Park Service can and should do more than maintain the lawn. Replica buildings, a monument, or something representative of what was the second largest slave trading site of the south.

This is a place of great historical significance and importance and deserves your attention. It is however very tiny, and not very accessible. It's truly a shame that a place of such horror is not remembered well. Especially considering the kind of attention the houses in Natchez that where build on the backs of those who where sold here do get. I sincerely hope this place will be improved in the future.

Important to learn even the ugliest parts of American history.

Personally very moving experience. To realize what took place there and then to come upon the leg irons embedded in concrete literally made me gasp. The viewing of all of it brought me to tears.

A bit of history in Natchez. The site of the old slave market and where Union troops were once billeted. Lots of signs talking about the area and some of the immigrants and ex enslaved who settled in the area. Hard to tell the sordid history from the sleepy neighborhood that exists today.

This place is a huge part of southern history.

Simple but powerful presentation at a major hub of the slave trade. Emphasizing the depravity of people using/abusing their power over others for the sake of financial gain. This is a public display with multiple information boards that tour we were on stopped at.

What a stark reminder of the horrors humans inflict on one another. Very peaceful spot.

Like every other country in the world, we all have parts of our past that we wish we could change. But life doesn't work like that. The best way to honor those who lived during those difficult times is to never let it happen again.

A very sobering reminder of very dark days in USA history. Read the boards ... its almost an after thought...not much indication that this historic site is even there, you have to seek it out.

Lots of information and well set up. Parking right by the display. Interesting and worth a stop if in the area.

They do not sugar coat the tragedy of enslavement and human exploitation. The small monument of real manacles embedded in concrete is visceral and not meant to leave one feeling comfortable, and it succeeds in its message.

Dedication done by the National Parks Society! Mixed emotions! Sad and angry! 2nd largest Trading Post of SLAVES (HUMAN FLESH)! Who's bright idea was it to sell people!

Education is necessary or history repeats itself. Visit if you can- it was the second largest enslaved human (African American) sales block in the country. Make sure your children see the chains in the concrete. History unlearned repeats itself - never again in America, please!
