It used to be called Lee Chapel until they changed the name to University Chapel because of political correctness.... for those who enjoy history and the Civil War.. this is the place to go? They don't bother to mention that the entire Lee family is buried in a crypt underneath the chapel.... they moved the Museum and Gift Shop because of Renovations but Lee's College office is still exactly the way he left it the day that he died.... and right outside the door of the crypt is the grave of Robert E Lee's famous horse Traveller, throw a few sugar cubes and a Apple for the good old boy... visit and enjoy.

Very beautiful but it is hard to find on the maps as a history person. It used to be called Lee Chapel. Also traveller is buried outside but is hard to find. I’ve taken a picture from afar so if you’re looking for it you know where to go.

Washington and Lee University Chapel is a nice of piece of history to tour.

No signs for the Lee Chapel and no plaque on the wall of the chapel indicating that's the General Lee grave, nothing about south history. (Lee founded this university right?) After Monument Avenue in Richmond, VA, they want to make you forget this part of history? It was still closed in mid september.

Lee Chapel & Museum is a National Historic Landmark on Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA. It was constructed during 1867–68 at the request of Robert E. Lee, who was president of the school (then known as Washington College), and after whom the university is, in part, named. The Victorian brick architectural design was probably the work of his son, George Washington Custis Lee, with details contributed by Col. Thomas Williamson, an architect and professor of engineering at the neighboring Virginia Military Institute. Upon completion and during Robert E. Lee's lifetime it was known as the College Chapel. Lee was buried beneath the chapel in 1870. In 1883 the University made an addition to the building to house the memorial sculpture of “Recumbent Lee” by Edward Valentine and a family crypt in the lower level, where the president's remains were placed. His wife, mother, father his children and other relatives are now buried in the crypt as well. The remains of his beloved horse, Traveller, are located outside the museum entrance. The chapel was officially renamed from Lee Chapel on June 4, 2022 by the university's "woke" board of trustees and given its current name. But if you still enjoy American history I encourage you to stop in for a visit. If American history offends though, you I'd stay away.

Very historical chapel formerly known as the Lee Memorial Chapel, it is where he and his family are interred, and was partly constructed by Lee as a place to gather (instead of explicitly a church/chapel). There is a statue/monument to him constructed after he passed. There are some docents to help you out, but it otherwise is self-guided. Definitely worth a stop for Southerns, Americans, and history-fans all the same. Cheers.

Awe inspiring! So impressive. The recumbent statue of Robert E. Lee is sheer perfection. Excellent artwork in Museum. Seeing Lee's office pretty much as he left it was like stepping back in history.

Small chapel and small museum. Nice memorabilia and artifacts in the museum, though. Unfortunately, the guides are way too eager to share their knowledge and want to talk and follow you around. You have no opportunity to sit, silent, take in, imagine, remember, appreciate. The chapel guide seemed offended that we visited the museum first, as she wanted to tell us about that as well. Parking lot is a bit of a walk, feels even further in this horrible summer heat. Worth a visit, just understand there's no chance for reflection.

This is a beautiful place with such great craftsmanship. Lots of history. Not handicap friendly steps involved. Definitely need to see from the front doors looking onto a beautiful campus to looking into the chapel.

Outstanding location. Having a volunteer give background on the chapel is well worth it. The museum does an excellent job of of interpreting the school and Robert E. Lee. Highly recommend a stop here. A good place to learn about the links between George Washington and the Lee family.

Lee Chapel & Museum is easily my favorite location in all of Lexington. It's an incredible well kept Chapel inside and out. It is completely free of charge. Once entering you are immediately met with the open chapel room and from afar will see The General's memorial - a sculpture of him laying in state - on each side you will see original paintings of General George Washington to the left and Lee himself to the right. You're allowed to go into the room where Lee's sculpture is at state and eventually will veer to the left down to the actual crypts. The actual crypts host Lee among many of his kin, including Revolutionary War Hero, his father Light Horse Harry Lee, Wife, and Children. His office is also in the lower room still intact and preserved just the way he left it the day that he died. Outside you'll find his trusty mount Traveler buried near by. An incredibly impressive place that anyone who finds themselves in Lexington must absolutely see.

I just visited, and it felt like a ghost town since nobody was around, but in some ways I did not mind that. It is a very historical institution, which is great, and has produced many honourable cadets and servicemen. I am not pleased with the school’s (and their perhaps worst graduate ever in our former governor), penchant of the erasure of former professor, Gen. Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson. I could only find one or two references to him on campus, which is a shame, since even though he was not a popular professor, he as a man was insanely popular. He was very honourable, treated everyone regardless of race with nothing but respect, and his legacy should have nothing or little to do with the post-Reconstruction problems the school might’ve had within its culture. Nevertheless, it is just a sign of the times.

Great school and a truly remarkable place steeped in history. VMI is a very unique experience that only a very few people in the world have the privilege of understanding. Hated being a cadet there but glad to be a graduate from there.

This once great state military academy has gone woke dropped its enrollment by 25% due to poor leadership that embraces a trash culture of men and country haters. Not worth you time or money, find a better institution.

I was there in the evening to return my son back to Post after an off Post Doctor appointment. It was beautiful. Everything was so well lit up, Cadets marching together, pristinely dressed, others carrying out on Post Duty Assignments and marching in an orderly fashion off to "SRC". It was a beautiful thing to see!

Hating your child more? My son attended and the experience he had there was outstanding. It was tough physically, challenging academically, and austere living, but his time spent there, while difficult, was rewarding and transformative. As they say VMI is not ordinary, the educational and life experience obtained there is extraordinary.

Pretty cool place. Lots of history in this town and we didn't have time to see it all. But this was a very cool, rich in history house. $10 for Adult, $7 for kids, younger are free. Not handicap friendly, stairs are involved. I wish they would have had a guide to inform on information.

I stopped in Lexington by chance during my travels, saw a sign for the Stonewall Jackson house and decided to give it look. It turned out to be a very interesting stop. The people working there were knowledgeable and friendly. There was a museum room and shop you can visit for free but to tour the house is $10. The historical part of the town is nice and worth the detour off the interstate. If you are passing this way check open dates as they may close for winter.

Interesting place with a lot of history. Tour was self guided on phone. My personal preference is an in person tour guide but it was still a fun experience.

I've been wanting to visit here for many years and finally did. My husband and I got so much information from the nice lady behind the desk. She was very knowledgeable about jackson and his family. Being able to see the things he owned was a big WOW to me and very emotional. I highly recommend this gorgeous house for a visit to people that love him as I do.

Visiting town and got a map of downtown Lexington at the Visitor Center. The Museum is next door. It was a self-guided tour with someone available to answer questions. Glenn was awesome and very knowledgeable of the history!

If you are a history buff this is a must stop. They have 2 options guided $15 per person or self guided using a QR code and a printed flyer. The Docent seemed nervous but was able to answer most questions. I found it odd a Nancy from another family seemed outrageous irritated that as Christian as SWJ was he owned slaves.

Price of admission is not bad. They do offer a aaa discount. Not a whole lot to see as you only get to see the first floor and basement. You don't get to go upstairs. Not sure if anything is up there besides rooms. They do have a nice gift shop as well. His grave is not far from his home. This is an easy self guided tour that wouldn't take but 30 to 45 mins max.

The Stonewall Jackson house was easily one of my top destinations in Lexington (Thomas Jackson Memorial Cemetery, VMI, Washington-Lee College being the others. ) It was an incredible step back into time to step onto the grounds, and inside, the home that has been fully restored to that of the time in which Jackson lived within. A place in which he was proud of, his only true owned home. Though much of the furniture is replicated and the home has a history well beyond the time of Jackson (for nearly a half a century it was a hospital), the homes most humble beginnings and now famously known history is that of being the generals house during his years spent in Lexington. The tour guides are very knowledgeable, and offer a fact based informative lecture on the homes history and Jackson's time spent within the walls. There are a few select furnishings in the home that were actual belongings. There is gardens behind the house, and a fairly affordable gift shop within, selling Jackson memorabilia. The price of the tour is more then reasonable. I very much loved this home and tour and think that absolutely anyone, but most definite, a history buff should absolutely visit. It's incredible to stand in the same space that was once filled with such a historical significant man, to our countries past.

Reasonable price for an interesting tour! It's a great chance to learn more about the everyday life of Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson during the years immediately before the Civil War. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and personable. The home, despite different uses in the more recent past -- even a hospital -- has been returned to a sembleance of the home of Jackson's time period. Even if the furnishings weren't original to Jackson, they were of the time period. There's a small gift store with many different offerings, including seeds, books, toys, music boxes, etc. The Stonewall Memorial Cemetery is a few blocks away. The only negative we had was finding the actual house using the GPS. If you're interested in the culture/lifestyle of that time period, it's worth checking out.

Super cool place. So much history! The home is restored amazingly and the docents are super knowledgeable and gave a great tour. Not too long so it’s a nice afternoon stop-in.

Being a Being an American Civil War history buff and also having been a civil war reenactor for years in my younger days, my wife and I visited the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery once when we were in Lexington, VA. It WAS named after Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson, the famous Confederate general, who was buried here in 1863. Also buried here are 144 Confederate veterans, and two Governors of Virginia. The current "woke" name dates to September 3, 2020 when this country began trying to bury US history, especially civil war history. The cemetery is located on South Main Street in downtown Lexington, Virginia, less than a mile from the campuses of Washington and Lee University and the Virginia Military Institute. It is a part of this country's history so if you're ever in the area it's definitely a place to visit unless this country's past history will offend you. LOL! If it does I wouldn't bother with this location! 😂🇺🇸 Note: if you're wondering why in the photos the memorial headstone of Stonewall Jackson you see lemons scattered on the ground, he was a long-time sufferer of an ulcer. His treated this by constantly sucking on lemons; even when he was in the midst of battle. Interestingly, if he did have an ulcer the citric acid would have exacerbated the problem all the more. 🤷‍♂️ So, it is a tradition when you visit his grave to throw a lemon onto the ground near the headstone.

Happened to be passing through Lexington so we made a brief stop at Oak Grove without knowing anything about it. Finding the burial monument of Stonewall Jackson was a pleasant surprise! For the age of the cemetery, it was very well maintained and landscaped. I was shocked at how big it was once we got in and we’re exploring. There are countless Covil War soldier markers and, of course, the gorgeous monument for General Jackson. The gravestones were enchanting, weathered and moss covered. A taphophiles dream! Certainly worth a walkthrough if you are interested in history or love cemeteries like I do!

My husband and I took an historical tour around Lexington and made this our last stop. It didn't disappoint. Well kept grounds. We love visiting old cemeteries and we could've spent all day just looking around.

This site is free and work a work stop. The memorial is at the center of this humbling and well maintained cemetery. The inscription is very well done and honors a great military mind. If you're in Lexington, definitely stop in to see this memorial; it will only take you 10-15 minutes to see the whole cemetery.

The Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery host nearly 150 Confederate Veterans, two Governors of VA, as well as many other notable individuals. The center piece and most obvious individual, of course, is Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson himself and surrounding family members. The cemetery is quite small compared to what I imagined, though, it is full of notable names and historic legends that made this one of the most hallowed and humble cemeteries that I ever had the honor of walking through. I had only wished that I knew half of the individuals that were there, prior to me visiting, so I could have truly taken it in for all it was. Very well kept, clean, and honorable place. I would recommend time for a long stroll to pay out respects and seek out notable names, if you truly want to take all of it in. Very incredible cemetery.

There is not enough time for this place. There is just so much history in one place. Definitely need to check it out if your in the area.

Easy to access right near the center of town. Had mixed feelings about visiting this Confederate General, however, was interested to see that several members of his family, who were also interred in the same spot, were decorated US soldiers in WW2.

Truly a hidden gem. The Foundation interprets the legacy of one of the greatest Americans of the 20th century, and possibly in the history of the Unites States: General George C. Marshall.

You must make an appointment to view General Marshall's papers, etc. Not open to the general public anymore.

Excellent collection of WWII history including Marshall's Nobel Prize. A must see for any Marshall fan. Rotating collection of WWII posters were great. Nice museum on the campus of VMI. Take the VMI's free campus tour before going to the museum on the college's most famous alumni.

George Marshall a true soldier, statesman and leader was a historical figure I've always admired. The museum at VMI in Lexington (he attend college there) is a great tribute to all he did. It had a lot to offer and was laid out well. Though some may find the written material long, it is well worth the read to capture the man and his times. Staff is courteous and informative. I will return because I could only absorb so much at one time. What I did garner was informative and close to awe inspiring. A great man has a wonderful memorial in a fine setting. A truly worthwhile place to visit.

A very thorough presentation of a great American. The receptionist is knowledgeable, friendly , and respectful setting the tone if this elegant hall which honors an understated man of unquestioned integrity and invaluable service to his country. To understand who this man was is to understand what made the world a safer place after WW2 AND what are the ingredients of the American character.

Sure, every older person has heard of George C. Marshall and the Marshall Plan. But, not being anywhere near as knowledgeable about Twentieth Century American history as I thought I was, I knew virtually nothing about one of America's greatest figures from any century. Go, and take a couple hours to tour this museum and learn about the man who led the military victory of WW II and whose postwar works saved countless lives and established the reputation of the U.S.A. as a country of honor and compassion. This place is a "must see" destination.

I learned so much, and was very impressed with the museum. I came away from the museum feeling that I had gotten a good education on this amazingly influential man. And it actually made me want to learn more. It also had his actual Peace Prize and the Oscar for the movie Patton. Wish there were more places like this!

My wife and I stopped by this "outpost" in Lexington on our way home to Northern Virginia for a bite to eat and a sampling of beers. We've been enjoying Devil's Backbone beer for years, but never had a chance to visit their brewery. We got there right as the place opened for lunch. The view is spectacular, with decks that overlook a beautiful green valley. Then there's the beer: Exceptional. For lunch we shared the nachos. Overall, a very pleasant experience with friendly and efficient service. Will definitely be back.

Really had a great time here. The atmosphere is chill and laid back. Had to wait for 30ish min but that was fine. The waiting area outside has a fantastic view. The beer is also really good. Fresh and delicious. Food was also really good. Recommend checking this place out it’s a little off the beaten path but worth the drive.

We recently held our clients wedding reception here at Devils Back Bone Brewery & the service the owners and team provided was superb!! We were the first ever wedding they held at their restaurant and we so look forward to working with them again! They accommodated to our brides needs and we’re also on point with communication, making sure this event was something our clients will remember for a lifetime. The little touches they added to the event were so fantastic, the owner even made dessert pies and pizzas specifically for our brides to make it special for their day, they don’t even have these items on their menu!🤍 Thank you so much for being so professional, kind and just awesome!

A huge, very cool place with the best food you'll ever find in a brewery. I'm not a beer drinker so I just ate, and I was happy to do so. The poutine is so savory and indulgent, with loads of cheese, pulled pork, and pearl onions. The Caesar salad is enormous! I ordered it with crispy chicken, which was tender and juicy. Brussels sprouts were crispy. And the owner was kind and welcoming.

We frequent the location in Nelson County and love the outdoor seating, large menu, great food, and beer. When we were in Lexington, we decided to stop at the Lexington location for a late Sunday lunch and had high expectations. We were disappointed all around. I was driving so I ordered iced tea, but they don't offer it. So I ordered a water and I was directed by the server to the self-service water station. This is fine if I am at a brewery that has a limited food menu and most patrons are drinking only, but a brewery that has a full kitchen menu and table service should be able to serve a patron water without making the patron serve themselves. My husband tried a light seasonal beer that was not good--very lemony and sour. We'll stick with Vienna lager. In addition, the food was mediocre at best. The pork in my tacos seemed braised, not smoked, and had a mushy texture. My husband ordered the special--a Jamaican beef patty-and it was gross. The amount of curry in the pastry was overwhelming. My son enjoyed his cheeseburger. Our server was okay but left on break and sent a colleague over to settle our bill for us--it literally took us 30 seconds to do so she could have done it and earned the tip we gave her. This place just wasn't for us. Seems a bit like a disgruntled, neglected stepchild. We'll stick with the Basecamp in Nelson County from now on.

After a great day of driving, we decided to stop at the Devil's Backbone Restaurant. Great little place just on the outskirts of Lexington, VA. The atmosphere was amazing and the wait staff was on point! The overall experience was a straight up 5 star experience.... great food, beer, and a great chill place to be! We can't wait to come back! The food and service were excellent here. The venue is really neat as well with the indoor and outdoor seating, gift shop, restaurant, and brewery attached. We enjoyed the pretzel, nachos, fried mushrooms, and baked buffalo garlic parm chicken thighs to start and then I had the smoked top round dip with mac-n-cheese, and everything was served fresh, hot, and delicious. The spicy pickles and pickled jalapeños (they refer to them as cowboy candy) were really good too. I would definitely recommend this place and look forward to coming back to eat and catch a brewery tour.

This was a really fun place to go for a Saturday night dinner with friends. The atmosphere was nice, they had live music playing, there was an outdoor section with great views, and the food was really yummy. I had the orange smash which was so good and then this amazing fall salad which had butternut squash, onions, almonds, and goat cheese. I also added crispy chicken to mine which was scrumptious! All in all, an awesome place to go.

We loved the view from the patio. The service was friendly. There weren’t many healthy/light options on the menu and most of the food we got was good but very heavy. The beer was good and there were lots of drink options. It seems like a great place to hang out and they had lots of fun merchandise. We would definitely come back.

I had a wonderful lunch here. I had grilled chicken Caesar salad from the regular menu and my companion chose something delicious from the brunch menu, a cheeseburger with Mac and cheese with bacon jam!!!

Our first time visiting the brewery after being fans of the beers for a long time. We were finally in the area and stopped by for some food and drinks after a day of hiking. The food was awesome! We had the smoked turkey club, fried chicken sandwich, giant pretzel, nachos with pork, and kids chicken fingers. I had the Danzig porter and my husband had the Oh Rah IPA. We have been fans for a long time of the brews and drinks. Disappointed that they were out of 8 Point when we visited, but we had some at home in the fridge. It was the perfect place for us to have a great meal and drinks.

My wife and I were camping at Harrisonburg/Shenandoah KOA in Broadway, VA, and decided to go here for lunch. It was a 60 mile trip but what the heck we we're on vacation. They were very busy when we arrived and there was a 45 minute wait just an hour after they had opened. They are dog friendly and one of the employees offered each of our 2 dogs a milk bone treat. We were seated outside. It was a hot day but the table was shaded with an umbrella and there was a breeze going so it wasn't too bad in the shade. There was water available for the dogs. We both had a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and honey bbq sauce. Delicious! I had two flights of beer, each with four samples, including their flagship beer, Vienna lager. Excellent. The service was good, the employees were friendly, the place was clean, the atmosphere was fun and prices were about par. If we didn't live so far away I wouldn't definitely go back much more often.

By far our favorite brewery we have been too. Tucked away right off 64, it’s the spot we always make time to stop at when going to visit family back down in VA. The food is always great and the beer is even better. Views from the deck are great and staff is always friendly, they actually have a decent gift shop as well and a huge To-Go beer selection 🤙🏼

Excellent brewery! The Vienna Lager is the flagship and is one of the best I've had! Another stand out is Danzig, which is a porter. Food is excellent! We had shrimp tacos and Veggie burger. The fries that came with burger were great as were the chips and queso that came with the tacos! The view of the mountains from the porch is beautiful!

I'm definitely coming back!! It wuld take over a week to see all of these Gravestones. Soo sad yet they ARE Victorious!! Rest In Peace & God Bless.

I don't remember the lady's name but my wife and I just happened to find this place and went in before we went to Jackson's house. She was wonderful. She told us of places we had no idea that were in Lexington. Thank you very much for a wonderful experience.

If you want to get around Lexington and rockbridge county this is a must visit. You can get the historical walking tour map only here and it's free. The map is super cute with little drawings of the historic places down town with historic information. There's also a shopping map so you can easily navigate around the shops.

Blair was extremely welcoming and accommodating. We wanted info on walking the Chessie Trail. We spent the night in Lexington on our way south. Beautiful town! We want to come back and spend a weekend at B and B.

We stopped by for the geocache at 3:01 (not realizing that they closed at 3:00). The lady inside was nice enough to hang around for a couple of extra minutes for us to find it.

My family and I come every year for the Lone Star Rodeo. We really enjoy the show. One detail that I noticed and this is probably on Lone Star Rodeo themselves but they have the cutest cowboy/cowgirl contest for tons of children of different wide range of ages. They choose 3 boys and 3 girls from ages 0- 12. First off the gold dig cuts off at age of 10 so should contest. But make it more fair by breaking the age groups into 3 groups and then pick one from each group. Cute babies don't stand a chance and not fair just because they can't stand but they are still cute. Might want to rethink that! Lots of little boys and girls were upset!!

I went to watch a family friend's daughter ride in a horse show. They did a nice job announcing the riders, there was a clearly marked area where the food trucks were located, and all the buildings were labeled with names to make it easy to figure out where the riders were in between competing.

First visit. It's a beautiful complex. My granddaughter had a softball tournament. It was "dusty" which is expected. I can't imagine it during a horse show. I'm not saying this to be negative, just to let others know in case you have breathing issues. I have asthma. Maybe bring a face covering.

We love coming to barrel races here BUT the last two years they continue to mess up our hook up reservations. We ordered 3 hook ups 7 months in advance called to confirm now we don't have them. There office staff has continued to make mistakes and never to take blame. Make sure when making reservations you get some kind of written confirmation.

Had a great time at VA horse center. Food vendors had great food. I enjoyed watching competitions and horse auctions.

So, this rodeo was great! However, the Virginia Horse Center has GOT to fix their traffic issues. We sat for 30 minutes trying to get out of the one gate. There were only two people directing traffic and getting out was like playing tetris with cars and a complete free for all. Also, I'm not sure why the Lexington Police Department wasn't there assisting with traffic.

Truck and tractor pull was a first-class great time! Excellent turnout for competitors and spectators, great food, and a beautiful setting. Had a great time at the rodeo there previously too!

The facility is large with lots of options for vendor placement, shows, and demonstrations. The only draw back was power issues that we encountered. Not sure if that was affecting the ability to keep the indoor arena cool but it was muggy. Considering how hot and humid it can get here one would think better ventilation would be in order. Other than that...we are enjoying the show. #BirdLife #OwlsTweet @MeetMrOwl

One of the best places in VA & on the east coast for a horse show!! State of the art facility. Great footing in all of the arenas. So glad that they're updating the stall fronts and eventually adding stall mats to all of the stalls.

We went here for a Monster Truck show and it was so much fun!!! It was a small event but it certainly did not feel like it!! It was a rain/sleet/snow kind of day but it was quite warm inside. Plenty of vendors and food to choose from. Everyone was welcoming and friendly! My family and I had an absolute blast at the Monster Truck Wars!!! Definitely recommend this place!

We have been attending the Lone Star Rodeo for quite a few years now making it such a fun family tradition. The Virginia Horse Center is a great facility for this event... Parking can be exciting...plan for quite a bit of extra time afterwards to get out of the lot. The only drawback I have seen is the water fountains are either broken or turned off. Guess that's on purpose so you have to buy bottled water.

Love seeing old buildings and how it used to be. Very beautiful there and sit up perfectly.

Beautiful site that includes picnic tables under shade trees. Two buildings housing antique reaper equipment and other artifacts. One building is a old blacksmith shop. Old slave quarters onsite that houses bathrooms now. There is a good sized pond on the grounds as well. I hear that oftentimes ducks and geese are in the pond. Walking on uneven ground and uneven steps is required to get to the buildings. An interpretive walking trail is inside that I did not access today. There is a seven minute audio- visual video that can be watched and listened to while in one of the buildings. Everything here is free! Quite educational.

This is an interesting free self guided museum however the place was closed due to covid. That was disappointing! My wife and I have been here before and stop to show our youngest son. He had learned about Cyris McCormick in his home school. Beautiful little spot for pictures in front of the water wheel and the old buildings. The grounds are well kept and groomed. Just a great little piece of American history that helped change things and make it easier for the American farmer!

Magical little stop close to 81. Tons of quick food options nearby and lots of picnic areas and tables in the shade. Pond is great and full of turtles and fish. Friendly barn cat is pleased with attention and children. Take the short walk along the feeder creek to the mill.

This was a nice place to while away an hour or so. There is an Amish store where you can buy most things for your baking needs. There are a variety of shops with antiques and handmade goods. Everything is indoors so great for a rainy day.

There are two main buildings with information. The mill has restored tools and parts that would have been used to grind corn and smaller grains like wheat. They do label the parts of the mill. The workshop has a top floor with a reaper and some very intricate models. An old ad explains the parts of the machine. There is a video that gives you the history of Cyrus. On the bottom floor of the workshop is his forge with original tools. The land had the house he lived in and the old mill pond, too. It is beautiful there. Another neat part was the half mile walk next to the mill pond and through the woods. We had a very pleasant visit and we learned a lot. It took about an hour.

A beautiful place to stop and stretch, walk and take pictures. There is dog walks, picnic tables, and bathroom.

Neat little wayside museum off Interstate 81. A few historical displays and a small walking path. Great place to get out and stretch your legs. Bathrooms available. Nice spot to picnic.

We got there late in the afternoon and many of the buildings were already closed. Still, the area is beautiful and we enjoyed exploring a bit.

It's so beautiful there. And with it being right next to a few truck stops, it's actually pretty quiet there. And they keep it very clean.

Small and serene place with lots of options for walking, taking photos, and picnicking. The little trail across the road from the main buildings was quiet and refreshing. I enjoyed my time here- if I lived around the corner I would be here often!

It was a nice place. Nothing like my family or I expected. I wish the trails had signs on which way to go so you don't just wonder around. We did get to see some cool wildlife.

This place brought out so much excitement in two 33 year olds; it's not just for kids! We were inspired by the whimsical and artistic nature of the whole place. We wandered for an hour or so and loved every bit of it.

This nature park is a lot bigger than I remember from my past visit over 10 years ago. I thought I walked most of the property but apparently, I missed some sections because I didn't see the big chair. I wish the online map is bigger and more clear. Anyway, this park is great. Parking/entrance fee is $5, which was indicated online but not anywhere to be found where the deposit box is. Cash Donations also accepted. The box is located at the corner of the parking lot right when you turn right into the parking lot right after you enter the park. This nature park is very educational, and the staff there is do friendly and helpful. I love that it is dogfriendly. I took the trail in the back passed the fairy section and further away from the entrance to the park. The hiking trail was nice and along a little Creek. There is where I spotted 3-4 white tailed deer... So cute!! This is a great place to bring kids. The visitors center was very entertaining... My favorite is the collection of bird nests.

This little area is a hidden utopia. No huge crowds and all natural surroundings make this nature center peaceful and appealing. Here you can wander the numerous trails that encircle the area. You will encounter roaming wildlife, amazing tree species and more flora and fauna than you can count. Ideal area for bird watching, afternoon strolls, or just to get away from it all. There is a small $5 donation for parking/entry but it is beyond worth that and more. If you like to be surrounded by nature this is the area for you. I urge anyone in the area to give this spot just a couple hours of your time. You will not regret it.

What a gem! Needed to find something fun to keep my little guy entertained. Boxerwood was the best. Super kid friendly (he’s 2) so many fun things for littles to explore. Very impressed and very thankful for the shaded kids area and creek to keep us cool! Will definitely come back.

This was such a happy fun place! The kids play area was like a dream come true! We will definitely be returning when we have more time to explore.

A really good spot to walk, get fresh air, and be in contact with nature. They are doing a great job maintaining this garden.

Oh my gosh this place is amazing!!! There are so many things to see and many beautiful whimsical attractions. It's enjoyable for both children and adults. If you like nature, you have to see the array of pants and trees and wildlife here. There are even some redwoods! There is a gated children's play area and it is the stuff of childhood dreams. I could read a book and let my kids be kids. There is real bone digging, a complete mud food kitchen and dining area, a fun little creek complete with a stationary canoe, and other fun things. It's only a suggested $5 donation to support the preserve. I highly recommend the small donation.

This is a place of whimsy and adventure for children! I recommend PLAY clothes that can get messy and muddy! They have a mud kitchen.... fully stocked! Mini tree houses, tons of trails, and little hide away places with forts or bridges to play in and cross. They offer crafts for little ones (precovid, check availability) during certain times of the year. There is a free library to swap books at too.

Absolutely perfect sound from Sam Bush in 'The Bowl' at Lime Kiln in Lexington VA. A very special place in America.

Wow! First time attending this venue last night for Watkins Family Hour and was blown away! Absolutely fantastic venue for live music Everything is close by to The Bowl so you never feel like anything is a trek to get to and back to your seats. Loved the benches! There isn’t a bad seat in the house! Can’t wait to come back!

One of the best venues to see music! We make the 3-hr drive all the way from NOVA just to see shows here. Family friendly; our toddler loves it. Bring your chairs and/or blanket; every seat in the house is great! They have food trucks, easy in/out parking, excellent bluegrass musicians, audience is kind and considerate, beautiful setting in the woods!

I hear this is an awesome place...I have a friend going later in the year to see 49 Winchester...I am sure it will be a terrific show .. understand tickets are hard to come by at this venue due to It's popularity & size..one day ..hopefully I will attend...juz look at the photos of this site...Red Rocks downsized for your pleasure!!

The volunteers. It's back in the woods. The food trucks. The beer. The sound and I sat right in the middle of the bowl. The pictures I took during the show just didn't do the whole experience justice. It was my first time going there and I loved it

A fantastic local gem for musical entertainment. It is a great place to meet up with friends and neighbors, eat at the food trucks and listen to music among the trees and under the stars. Small enough to feel intimate, but large enough to draw some great musical guests.

Lime Kiln Theater is booking some great music for summer 2018! Check out the schedule on their website or social media and plan in advance to make a concert part of your visit to this charming little gem of a town.

I am not an arty person but this was my favorite shop on our trip to Lexington. The are so many beautiful paintings of local artifacts. If the sites shops of Lexington were all football players, the Cabell Gallery would be Tom Brady. If the shops were organs it would be the heart. If the shops were starbursts, it would be the orange ones. If the shops were... Well you get the point. I like it there. You should go and buy something because I'm too poor to buy anything :(

Wonderful art!

It's a great establishment with inviting decor and really awesome staff, which is the saving grace of this review. They don't have a kitchen and therefore don't serve food so having outstanding beer needs to be the focus. It's just unfortunate that the beer here isn't really that great. It all tastes "unfinished" if that makes any sense. There are a number of excellent breweries in the area, so Blue Lab should take notice and step it up.

The beer here is cheap but you get what you pay for. I am a beer aficionado and a home-brewer so it was easily apparent to me that about 50% of their beers had major flaws. I visited on two occasions months apart just be be sure it wasn't a bad batch. That being said, if you find a good beer here that you like, it seems like a pretty chill place to hang out and knock back a few cold ones.

Hard too rate below a 3 when the folks are so nice and the place is so quaint. Unfortunately, the beer isn't that great. If you are going to stop, go straight to the chocolate stout.
