We decided to take one of the hiking trails and realized quickly we were not well prepared so make sure to do your research if you want to hike. There is a small fee as you get further into the park, you can pay at machines in the parking lot. The views were stunning and much more than we expected

A super beautiful and colorful mini grand canyon of the Pacific! Lots of hiking trails, waterfalls, drivable overlooks and picnic areas. You could spend days in their hiking around and never get bored. Entering on the south end of the island you can drive all the way up to view the Napali coast and its beautiful and rugged terrain. There are hiking trails down to it if you dare. Definitely need to bring water with you on any of the hikes.

Waimea Canyon State Park is absolutely majestic! Mini Grand Canyon on the island of Kauai (Hawaii). Definitely interesting to see the beautiful sights of nature. Since we are local I don’t know how much it costs for entrance/parking fee for the the main lookout point but there are other lookout spots you can stop on the side of the road to see the canyon as well.

Breathtaking views. Parking lot is not very big, so just be patient. It’s very much worth it. We hiked down and enjoyed a view of the Na Pali coast.

This is by far one of the most beautiful places I have ever been! The views over the canyon are absolutely breathtaking. There is a very nice lookout area with some good views and photo spots. There are also a couple trails that you can walk/hike that have some good views as well (although they are a bit challenging). Overall a must-visit place on the island.

Breathtaking views ❤️ the terrifying drive up was worth the experiences along the way. There are several pullover spots to enjoy the views and catch a few pictures. Most of the way up is protected with guardrails which made me feel much better. It was worth the 1 hour drive each way during my honeymoon stay.

It was overcast and misty the day we went but you could still see the canyon and the waterfall. There are pay to park lots or find a spot to pull off the road to take pictures. Simply amazing views.

There’s a main parking lot which folks can park in that does fill up throughout the day. I arrived around 9:30 and found a spot easily. I’d recommend the canyon trail if you are actually looking for a decent hike. Depending how far you go it’s about a 3-5 mile trek total but has views that more than make up for the workout. Plenty of cool lookouts along the way to stop and check out as well.

Stunning, absolutely stunning and worth the drive up the mountain. Leave early, it might get cloudy later in the day. We arrived around 8 am; it was a bit early for pictures as the sun was not hitting the Canyon at the right angle to make the colors pop. It was the right time to do a hike though, before the scorching sun made it difficult. Weather can make or break your day trip up the Canyon. I got lucky with both morning and afternoon weather but I was fully prepared to come back the next day if I had to leave early. Yes, it is worth it.

We drove throughout the park and stopped at several lookout points. There are several trail options to hike. Make sure to bring water, snacks and a hat. There was little to no shade and not only a couple areas with restrooms. The views of the canyon were breathtaking. Learning the history of how the canyon formed about 4 million years ago was pretty neat. All of the lava rock you see has weathered from original black to it's reddish dirt color over time. Visibility was not great on day one. It was rainy and the canyon was blocked with large clouds. Day two, the weather was in our favor. So definitely do a weather check before visiting.

We did the drive right to the top of this amazing state park. The views of this Canyon from all of the outlook points are absolutely amazing. Pictures can do this place no justice. In fact, I would consider this as nice if not nicer than the Grand Canyon. So if you’re thinking about doing this, check your weather and do it when you know it’s going to be fairly clear with little rain. I’ll let you know that at the very top there were some fairly large potholes which made the drive difficult in a sports car, but in a sport, utility or any other vehicle, it would be fine.

My family visited Waimea Canyon in early November in 2023. The place was spectacular, the deep jagged cliffs and drop offs with the dirt giving an orange hue. We also saw some birds flying freely across the region. When my family and I visited, we spotted a waterfall, keep in mind it is not really visible depending on what season it is. It is a must see for everyone. The route there also has plenty other lookouts giving you views of the canyon. There are also many trails throughout the area which allows you to venture deeper into the canyon. I highly recommend taking one of them. The entry fee is somewhat cheap, being free if you are a resident in Hawaii. There are many chickens throughout the parking lot. The staff there were also kind and helpful too. Keep in mind, there is not much shade at the lookout so it is best to put on sunscreen and beware that it is somewhat crowded at the lookout with parking spots being limited. Overall, I highly recommend visiting this place.

This is a must when you visit the garden island of Kauai. Just absolutely beautiful. Be prepared to spend some time in the car because there is some driving to get between lookout points, but 100% worth it. Be considerate though and realize you are driving on a mountain road and it is twisty and steep and narrow in parts. But absolutely gorgeous scenery and breath taking views.

Beautiful canyon. We could not view certain parts due to fog. The waimea lookout was completely not visible the day we were out there but I hear it’s beautiful on a clear day. We were still happy with the parts we saw. A beautiful scenery and drive.

The canyon is a pretty spectacular sight on the islands. This was my first time to Kauai, Waimea and so much more make this the most unique, and now my favorite, of the three Hawaiian islands I have been to. If you have the time to visit Waimea I suggest it.

Amazing hike! The views are incredible! You can swim but the water was too high when we went (it’s January) so no one was really swimming.

Totally took me by surprise! What a beautiful Canyon. I loved the contrast of the red rocks and the green plants and trees. So many waterfalls. The lookout is great and has wheelchair access and bathrooms

Gorgeous beach with lovely green hills in the background. The trick is getting there. You ideally want something with high clearance and 4WD because it is a heavily potholed road, and if it's been raining a lot, there are many places with slick red mud. But even without high clearance, if you take it very slow, you can probably make it down the long road. Once we got to the park sign, there was a road that went to the left for Queen's pool but we continued straight on and ended up at the restroom and shower facilities, and just over the hill from the beach. The surf is way too rough to get in the water. But because this is so remote, you will almost have the beach to yourself, and it's a very peaceful place to watch the sunset or take a stroll.

A beautiful park at the start of the Napali Coast! The road to the park is a rough 5 mile dirt road...full of potholes. I recommend a 4x4... or at least a taller vehicle....so you don't bottom out. They day we went was a very dry... We did make it with a Honda Civic...but not recommended in a small vehicle. ;). There are campsites available at the park...and would be a wonderful place to spend the night. I highly recommend this park...as the day we went at 1pm, there were only 4 other cars. Nice and peaceful. Nice covered areas with picnic tables.... just amazing!

Beautiful remote beach with a very fun surf. Beach access has a wash station and bathrooms. Well worth the drive.

It's a pretty bumpy ride to the beach and you need a 4x4 if you want to be near the water. Beautiful views of the polihale coast and plenty of shells on the beach. We found two sunrise shells in one day.

Easily one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. If you are planning to visit, I highly recommend renting a jeep or other 4wd car as the road in is not paved and is very bumpy- and has huge mud ditches when it rains. The beach itself is very wide white sand that overlooks the cliffs of the Napali Coast. There are no food options here and shade is limited, so pack a lunch and rent chairs or umbrellas from your hotel. Some people will just back up their jeep to the beach and sit on the tailgate and hang out. There are restrooms scattered about the park but there are no lifeguards. The day we visited, the water was pretty calm.

4 wheel drive vehicles advisable due to unpaved road. Pockets of soft sand when driving to the camp sites. The beach is beautiful. While camping there, we saw dolphins, manta rays, beautiful sunsets and the ocean had about 4 different shades of blue. While you're there, take a short drive to Queen's Pond. Good spot for kids to go swimming. Wear lots of sunscreen!

Fun drive to get to the beach. Took a left at the tree and went towards the Queens pond based on the side. Took about 20-25min but was much quicker going back as we were less cautious. VERY windy day. Sand was whipping around quite a bit but was an incredible view nonetheless.

Absolutely amazing! Very remote and it allows you have a whole beach to yourself. The beach is incredible and the backdrop just stunning. The surf was incredibly rough but stunning to look at. The 5 mile trek through the muddy, pothole filled dirt road is challenging and allow yourself 30 minutes +/- with preferably a SUV or truck to navigate but well worth the payoff at the end. We did it in a Nissan Altima but was sweating it in a few areas.

Best place for sunsets! This is as far south as you can go on the island, but worth the drive no matter where you are staying! Great white sand beach with an unbeatable sheer wall backdrop. Not the best swimming or snorkeling beach due to the large waves and current. HOWEVER, hands down, the only place to view a beautiful sunset at the western most point of the US.

A real paradise !!! Totally worth to drive on a dirt road for 5 miles…. Amazing experience…. Outside the world. Keep it like this….. maybe running water is not a bad idea since you are far away from civilization. (Pictures from last summer)

My husband and I ventured here today. Rough road to travel in a Charger! I would highly recommend a 4-wheel drive. We got stuck attempting to go the Queen’s Pond…never made it. Took us 45 mins to get out of the sand, thanks to a super nice bystander. The dips in the road may wreck your car. If you’re lucky enough to make it to the park, be prepared for the beauty you’re about to see. Hands down the most beautiful beach I have ever seen in my entire life! Pristine! And the Napali coastline was the perfect backdrop. Only a few locals there. The beach was wide open! The sand gets very hot, so best to visit early in the day. No shade!

Great peach as you can see! Quite the drive if especially if you are staying on north side! The dirt road is accessible by any car, 4wd not needed. Great sunsets and beautiful views of the stars. Not a lot of people which is great!

The road in is a minimum maintenance road and best visited with a vehicle with a little higher clearance, beach access for four wheel drive vehicles. Queens Pond was under water as the surf was high when we visited.

Incredibly beautiful beach, soft sand and picture perfect opportunities. There are some facilities (washrooms, shower) but nothing fancy. Enjoyed seeing the parade of catamarans taking tourists to Napali tours around 3:30pm. The road is in poor condition but I drove slowly with my 2 wheel drive sedan (5 miles per hour). Unless you rented with Turo, they won't know you took the car there. Seeing the road condition, I can understand why. Water conditions were quite rough, I would not recommend swimming here. I went in knee deep and waves rolled me over. I think that despite the poor condition of the access road, the beach is a must see in Kauai.

Great park. A little farther out there than some, but Great beach and views! Amazing ciew of the napali coast ans sea lions if you are lucky. This guy came out of the water as we were walking along. If you have a little rental car the road can be challenging, I recommend walking in if you don't know the road amd have a rental car with little ground clearance.

The path to get to the beach is a long bumpy dirt road (4WD highly recommended). The payoff at the end is an incredibly beautiful beach the ends at the beginning of the Na Pali coastline. Note this is not a good beach for swimming- the ocean is rough and unpredictable here.

The scenery at the beach is amazing. FYI the road is bumpy and can get washed out when it rains.

We loved this beach and it wasn’t crowded. Beautiful area and would come again anytime. The road is a great tourist restriction and control.

NEED 4-WHL DRIVE TO ATTEMPT! I've been to Polihale before, and while the road was long and rough, it was nothing compared to this! This time around the 4 mile trip off the highway took 40 minutes to complete - in our large, four wheel drive SUV. Even then, it shook our teeth loose! That said the beach at the end is worth it! Polihale is the last southern beach before Napali coast begins and, due to the remoteness, is a nearly uninterrupted 7 mile stretch of white sand with very few people on it. Yes, there are picnic and bathroom facilities there. Lots of locals head out there and camp for the weekend, since the surf break is famous. For us, it was a nice place to spend an afternoon.

Your rental car company likely told you not to come here... Stay out of the sand, and you will be fine. There are full restrooms and a covered picnic area at the end of the road. Well worth the trip if your vehicle can make it, a beautiful stretch of nearly empty beach leading up to the Napoli coast. This was quickly one of the highlights of our travels in Hawaii.

A very beautiful trail! Definitely moderate, wear the appropriate shoes with traction because I saw a few wearing flip flops and slippers. I applaud them because no way I could’ve done that. It took my family and I about 2 hours at a leisurely pace. The canyon lookout view is beautiful, and so is the waterfall at the end. If it’s a hot day, wear your swimsuit under and take a quick dip :) worth the hike for the beautiful views, it can be very muddy and slippery though. Keep caution when hiking!🌟

Definitely one of the best treks I've had on the island. The pictures here are on the way to the actual lookouts. Many a twist a turn to the top, but definitely worth the trek. The views are simply out of this world. Loved it and cannot recommend this excursion enough. Loved it.

We had an amazing experience on the hiking trail during our Hawaii trip. The views were breathtaking, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our visit. The trail, while occasionally muddy, added to the adventure. It's worth noting that it falls on the more challenging side, but even our family with kids aged 5 and 7 found it enjoyable. Highly recommended for those seeking a rewarding hike with stunning views!

Not an easy hike and definitely not for those who are afraid of walking down a muddy and slippery terrain. It wasn’t a long hike, nor was the elevation too much but it was very slippery due to rain and it felt long! The mini falls at the end are epic! The water was cold but we jumped in and loved it. Felt so fresh after and the hike up was a cakewalk. The viewpoint was so good. I recommend good hiking shoes- do not do this in flip flops (unless you are super experienced) We saw tons of toddlers doing this which was impressive!

This was the most wonderful hike! We did run out of water prior to starting out on the hike (dumb move), but the hike was totally worth it and the scenery was breathtaking. When we got done, my watch notified me that it was the equivalent of 86 flights of stairs!

This is one of the more popular and crowded hikes in waimea canyon and definitely worth it. The trail is rugged and difficult by mainland standards but very tame by kauai standards. There are a few small stream crossings, a decent amount of slippery mud, lots of roots and rocks, steep inclines and declines, and exposure. I always hike in water proof hiking boots, which I would recommend for this hike, but my buddy does it bear foot without issue (not the case for most people). I hike fast and don’t take breaks and made it to the falls in about 20 minutes from the parking lot.

Moderately difficult trail with stunning views. Worth it to end at the waterfall (and the views)! There is a lot of climbing up/down and narrow areas. Would not take younger kids. Do not wear flip flops. Some exposed areas so wear sunscreen. Pack plenty of water and snacks. Not a hike I would do on the fly if you’re driving the canyon with no preparation.

This hike was SO HARD 😭 it was definitely beautiful, but the journey back from the river had me rethinking all the life decisions that led me there. I almost died 4 times on the way up from exhaustion, but once I made it to the car I never felt more accomplished. During the steep journey back up I realized that I been taking treadmills for granted, as when I feel tired I can just hop right off …. But this trail didn’t give me that option. Finally made it to the trail soaked in sweat and listened to queens “we are the champions” bc it felt so dang good. If you choose to take this journey bring A LOT of water !!!there was a couple we shared water with bc they ran out on the way up!! You will need it! Proper hiking shoes , food & leave the kids at home. Basically I work out 6 days a week and this trail was pretty intense for me… but I do tend to complain a lot . The river / water falls was SO AMAZING you can jump in and it feels so good .

It is designated as a historic site, but it is a place where I don't know what to see. It seems like I should go there after studying a little more next time.

Interesting piece of history but not much to see. If you are driving by worth the stop but I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit.

Suspension bridge swings as you walk across it. It's in a somewhat seedy place with limited parking. Go past it and you will find an abandoned home with parking on the side. I would probably avoid this area at night though. Nothing of note on the other side.

This is a deeply historical site, for the history of the Hawaiians, the initial contact with western powers via Captain Cook, and later with the Russian American Trading Company, and then the struggle to remain independent of King Kamehemeha I, and his quest to unite all of the hawaiian Islands under his rule. Kauai remained defiant. This site is not flashy or maybe impressive for tourists, but for the Kama'aina, it's an essential must stop and learn from place so that we may know our history, and see it first hand.

Really interesting stop, worth reading about the history and checking out the fort. No real crowds, plenty of parking.

Recently built memorial to King of Kauai, which was very nice. Area still looks like it’s under construction. However, there are restrooms available, but not that clean or well maintained. The memorial site is a quick 5 minute stop to read and take few pics, but we stayed a bit longer to view the sunset which was stunning as it is from anywhere on Kauai.

Good Russian history here. Orange cat was sweet. Hopefully they will renovate it sometime in the future.

Very accessible park but the trails are heavy red clay. There's a hose by the restrooms to cleanup so it was all good.

Neat place, it still needs some work, but was very interesting and informative and yes, worth a trip if you’re on this side of the island. The fort is located right next to where Captain Cook first landed in Hawaii. There’s lots of parking and a bathroom available on site. It truly takes just a few minutes and is well worth the stop.

Beach is nasty, walkways are not defined at all. The fort was "restored" in 2019 but has been taken over by grasses and such so there is very little to see... may as well spend time somewhere else! Oh yeah, the statue is neat, maybe check that out and get back to the good stuff!

Even if you go just to take in the views at the overlooks, it’s worth it! Lots of great trails in the park, too, of course. Beauty everywhere you look! A must do. The lodge is a nice stop for lunch and live music if the timing works out. Remember there is nearly 0 cell service; download offline maps if you’ll be relying on GPS.

Long journey up a mountain, but it is worth every single second!! Great family day!! I do hope they use the tourist money for park access to get some of the potholes fixed soon. With no service at the top, you really hope your car doesn’t blow a tire on some of those. They are deep and large!

This place is beyond beautiful! If you make it to the island of Kauai you have to visit this place! There are quite a few lookout points to see, but it is possible to see them all in one day. There is a site for picnics and there are cabins as well. The museum is small, but definitely worth seeing. There are some really nice hiking trails also, but be careful if it rains, as they can become very slippery. Some of the lookouts have a price you have to pay to enter. They are $10 per car, and $5 per person. Absolutely worth it.

This was a really good hiking and overall experience. We did about 14 mi across six different trails and each one of them was amazing. It wasn't too busy in July, The parking seem to be filling up when we left at about 1:00 p.m. we had the entire park to ourselves when we got there at 6:00 a.m. for sunrise.

5 Stars for the views - 0 stars for the park management. $10 per car and $5 per person fee - no problems at all, I'm happy to pay for park service fees because that means there is active park management. Well, that's what I thought it meant. Several sections of road were worse than some 4x4 tracks I use with monster potholes that have obviously been there a long time. The toilets were an absolute disgrace. Then the hiking trails - most places that we hike that are subject to high erosion have elevated sections over flood & erosion prone areas to help the hikers and to protect the trails (or at the minimum some gravel) - not here where you simply navigate great pools of mud and make the trail worse. Most places will have steps in the really steep places to avoid serious erosion and protect root systems - nope, massive muddy slippery sections ripping through the slope. They also have a nice sign asking you to brush your shoes before and after your hike to prevent the spread of seeds and diseases impacting native plants - great. Except all the places where the brushes should be were void of brushes. If the forest management team can't be bothered to help stop the spread of seeds and disease then why would anyone else!? Nice views - terrible, incompetent management.

Koke’e state park is beautiful and amazing! The views of the coast is breath taking and so is the gorgeous view of the mountains ⛰️. God created a beautiful view with this.

Magnificent park!! After hiking the Kalalau Trail and all its glory, we can safely say that we preferred the views from the hikes in Kokee. So beautiful!

The drive up to the lookout is long and people prone to motion sickness should have Dramamine on hand. Several pullout over amazing views. There are a few hiking trails from the Kalalau lookout. If you have time and can pack for muddy, rainy, muggy weather, the views and experience of being in the canyon are amazing. Ease do your research on length of the hike and conditions. Being fully equipped makes for a better experience.

Koke’e State Park, Kauai. My sister and I rented a truck and drove up a beautiful winding road to an elevation of about 5,000 ft I believe. This spot over looks one of the most breathtaking views I think I have ever seen. The pictures can not do it justice. The colors are amazing. Best day trip. The air seems so clean and crisp. Shouldn’t leave Kauai without making your way to Koke’e.

Great place and great view. Don't miss! We were so excited about Kauai that we went everywhere then followed it up with a helicopter ride to see everything again. Fun fun fun!

Incredible views you can drive to, hikes of various difficulty levels for the more adventurous. The koke’e lodge has good (but pricey) food that hits the spot after a hike. No place to clean off the mud, though.

Amazing views from the various lookouts and great hiking in the park too. The lodge is so cute and cosy. Pretty reasonable entry fee for all day entry.

A must visit in Kauai! Highly recommend stopping as many spots as you can along the way. The top lookouts are gorgeous but the ones along the way also share their own beauty!

Pull over and take fifteen minutes here! It's nothing like Utah's arches or New Mexico desert. It's smooth and powdery and alien and fantastic! Lots of photo ops.

It truly is the Grand Canyon of Hawaii. You can drive to multiple lookouts or hike in if you're feeling adventurous. There's a on site restaurant, a souvenir shop and a museum. You pay for parking and park entrance fee per person at the parking lots, not at a gate.

So worth the visit! Completely different nature from where we spend most of our time on the north shore, great hiking, and yummy food at the end of the road.

Incredible park! The views are stunning. There are plenty of great hikes you can do in the area, as well as lots of scenic viewpoints. We did the Pihea Trail which had some great views of the Na Pali Coast. The road to get here is long and winding. The entry fee to the park is $10 per car, plus $5 per person. This is payable at all the main viewpoints. This is not the price for just one outlook, but also valid for the whole park. A must visit in Kauai!

This is as far as you can drive in the state park on top the beautiful mountains overlooking the gorgeous coast line and valleys inland. Park your car and hike into the trail. Unfortunately, it was foggy most of the time during our visit in May, especially to the ocean cliffs side. We were able to peek the ocean with breathtaking views when the clouds opened up for a short period of time. The total experience for us was wonderful and unforgettable.

Definitely worth the stop. Breathtaking views! The road was filled with potholes and a few folks ahead of us turned around. I wouldn't recommend in poor weather. There is a hiking trail at this stop too, but we really only parked and took photos.

One of the most spectacular landscapes on the planet. Well worth the drive! Just a short walk up from the parking lot delivers the most insane views. If it’s foggy give it a few minutes as clouds move quickly up here.

The waterfall. The waterfall. The waterfall! Stunningly beautiful. It was the continuation after visiting Wiamea Canyon Lookout. This is a very popular area to visit but more than definitely worth the trek. Absolutely loved it and highly recommend multiple visits if possible. Another vista to add to the list if ever you find yourself fortunate enough to be in Kauai. Aloha and Mahalo!

this awesome lookout is located at end of Kokee Rd, only short walk from parking lot, Pihea trail also start here. it's similar to Kalalau lookout near by - but better. we really enjoyed to watch the clouds come and go, the view overlooking Na Pali coastline just breathtaking! on the way back along Waimea canyon drive, luckily saw a rainbow and a beautiful sunset.

There’s 2 lookout points up here but the further one is the best. This was an epic way to end our trip with full rainbow & all. Even if you’re not hiking, plan to stay at least hour while weather changes from sunny to drizzle/shower to sunny again. Plan another day if heavy overcast expected but typical day in Kauai can bring afternoon clouds so just wait it out. We arrived around 4pm and views were amazing. Showers came down by 6pm but likely cleared up in time for sunset but best views is when sun is still high enough to show all the colors of the valley. Will definitely come next time after sunrise. Didn’t do the scary hike where folks ventured down steep trails but there was big side trail worthy enough. Wear good tread shoes if you don’t want to slip on red dirt or mud bc you’re literally standing on the edge of a cliff. Amazing!

We did this as a sunset hike. We left the parking lot at 630 and arrived in time to relax and enjoy a breathtaking view. We walked back in the dark and loved the adventure of getting back. Yes, we had flashlights but the excitement of figuring it out was amazing.

Trail is exceedingly beautiful and exceedingly slippery. The mud is no joke, it's more like ice. If you have yaktrax they would be helpful here. This is not a family hike. It's slippery and at elevation most people are not used to. Any cliff slip would bt deadly. But you are treated to amazing views of you go out. Anyone with complete mobility, do it.

Awestruck beyond description. Witnessed the most powerful prayer being answered here. Initially blanketed by a thick layer of fog, then saw it lift after praying fervently. The view was simply stunning. The sheer depth of the canyon…really is eye-opening. The extra mile of drive from Kalalau lookout was definitely worth it. Definitely a highlight of our Kauai trip!

If you're visiting Waimea Canyon, this is a must-see spot. You can think of it as the end of the road. It's recommended to go in the morning because it rains often and there is a lot of fog in the afternoon. The scenery that you see with your own eyes is so beautiful that it can't be captured by a camera. After visiting here, you can stop by several lookouts on your way back.

The geology here is an absolute must-see. Don't stop at the man-made Vista, continue at least 300 feet down the dirt path. The drop-off to either side of the ridge is sheer. The views are sublime, but watch your footing! There's a section of "stairs" that look like they were made for giants. You can absolutely brave these, or continue down the path along the wall for better/safer footing. The Vista at the bottom (~1 mile in) is considerably less crowded, but you'll get a little muddy on your way in. It's part of the adventure!

Road can be a little rough to get there. Wheelchair accessible for part of the lookout. You can also hike down a little bit. It is such a beautiful view!

Flew over the morning prior and wanted to see what it was like from the ground. This is a great lookout here at the end of the road, 4wd and patience for white knuckle drivers recommended. Even better hikes with rewarding views if the weather isn’t too wet or cloudy. Support the parks, that’s how it remains up-kept and accessible. Highly recommend P.s. also saw overly friendly Aloha tickets on cars that didn’t pay 🤭 $10 / vehicle $5/person standard with machines right here

Truly beautiful. Honestly, a little terrifying with how close to the edge you can stand, but the views! The views! If you had a postcard of Kauai Island this would be one of the viewpoints there. We did arrive close to sunset, so we did not hike very much of the trail, but the views along the way are amazing! The trail, while dry when we were there, is still ridiculously slippery from the gravel though. It's worth having a good hiking stick and just taking a bit slower going down. The road to the parking lot from the previous viewpoint for the lookout has developed some very, very large potholes though. We hit two of them by surprise when the pavement quality suddenly changed past the yellow gates, and were lucky to have escaped without harming our rental car. (The views were worthwhile though!)

This is absolutely worth the drive. Amazing view of the Napali Coast. The clouds came and went so if there are clouds just wait and they may clear.

If you love paying $6 for very weak coffee and the taste of sweet syrup flavor, then this is your place. I ordered the iced coconut latte and it looked extremely watered down. Took one sip and it was very clear that they do not use espresso. Coffee mixed with milk and way too much syrup does not equal an iced latte. Very disappointed.

Such a cute little local coffee shop! The cold brew is fantastic and the chicken pesto sandwich is delicious! They offer a variety of quick breakfast and lunches to get you through the day and the owners are so friendly and so helpful! Definitely recommend and support small business :))

What an amazing experience!! The owner is extremely friendly and caring for everyone who steps foot in her store. I've never been asked so many questions on coffee so she could make the most perfect concoction for my taste! I would also suggest a muffin with your coffee!

Cute coffee bar and art gallery. We originally stopped just for coffee and wound up having an amazing conversation with the owner. I wish we had made this our first stop while in Kauai rather than our last. Great experience and Ah-mazing coffee!

my boyfriend and i came here 5 minutes before closing hours (i know, bad customers) and the owner treated us so kindly and made sure we got every thing we needed. i had the Cliff Diver energy drink and i LOVED it—highly recommend coming here if you need a little pick me up! my only regret is not coming here every day while we were in Kauai!

We stopped here for espresso several times during our visit to Waimea. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff was very friendly. I really liked the mocha latte and my wife enjoyed the Chia latte. Great price for the drinks as well. Highly recommended!

The coffee here’s delicious. Of all the places I visited on the island, this place felt the most peaceful. Maybe it was the time of day, maybe it’s just the vibe of the place. But I dig it.

This coffee shop is amazing! I had the canyon latte which was recommended by the staff, it had a hint of lavender flavor which at first sounded a little weird but it was really good. My husband had the ocean freeze energy drink and he really liked it as well. The drinks were delicious and the staff was very attentive and friendly, super glad we stopped here.

I absolutely love this place!! The coffee is amazing and the avocado toast is the best that I’ve ever had! I highly recommend you go give them a try!

What a hike!!! Definitely need a lot of fluids...hiking poles helped us a lot, and yes, the mosquitoes are bad by the river BUT totally worth the 4+ hours. Brilliant rainbow after we got out!!

Explore the canyon a different way and take your time to the different campsites offered. My friends and family went to the Lonomea Campsite ( the farthest ) but it was worth it. It had a natural pool with the fresh water running cold along down the river. We camped overnight and made back up in 4 hours. The views were beautiful and the experience is amazing. It can be hiked in and out in a few hours but you have to start early. Best when it hasn't rained yet, because it got slippery along the way. It is a hunting area as well.

The Nature Trail is a smooth half-mile round that anyone can walk, and it gives you some great views and explains tge local flora.

This hike was AMAZING except for the fact that my legs felt like exploding on the hike back up the mountain. Of course it was my fault because I went I'll prepared. Tips: Bring more than on bottle of water and one protein bar, and don't forget to hydrate! But the views were pretty sweet.

Short little trail, very family friendly, many opportunities to check the view. There is a trail leading down into the canyon, but be careful how far you descend, because you will have to climb it all back up!

If you don't want to pay the $10 per car plus $5 per visitor over 3 years old at the official state park overlook, this is a great place to get an excellent view of the canyon for free. The hike is a relatively easy stroll, but probably not for people with difficulty walking or other mobility conditions.

Quite a hike for 3.5 miles each way for a georgeous view of the Napali coast. Some parts are muddy and slippery but manageable with good shoes.

We did this hike w two families of four. Our footwear included running sneakers, crocks, converse all stars. We had approximately 7 liters of water at the start, a bag of chips and a few chocolate chip cookies. If you plan to descend and ascend the Kukui trail to the river and back I suggest you pack more provisions and be better prepare than we were. That said, we made it. Even the nine year old in crocks. So when you are questioning your ability to live on the climb back up remember this and gather strength.

I hiked down to the river and then continued deeper into the Canyon for about another 1-2 miles. The views are absolutely amazing and give a much different perspective then the usual Waimea Canyon hike or overlook. Once down into the Canyon, the river is easily swimmable and very refreshing. The hike back up is very steep, about 2k ft elevation in 2.5 miles means hard work! Bring plenty of water and coverage from the sun. Take breaks and enjoy!!

We didn't do a lot of hiking, but this was a beautiful easy spot to look out along the road. This was a very short hike and fairly easy. I was in sandals and a dress. Conditions were fairly dry when we walked the shortest loop.

Nice easy hike--like 5 minutes each way--with a nice view. The view is nearly as good as the one at Weimea canyon lookout but not at all busy.

You know how your parents say that they walked uphill both ways to school? This is that walk. We thought we were going to be fine because we are both pretty active. We were wrong. It says it’s 2.5 miles both ways but they don’t count the tears and the stress that it might cause a new marriage. I would recommend this if you want to break up with an SO, you’re curious what it might be like if you ran your toes in a shredder or if you’re trying to murder someone and make it look like an accident. In summary, I give it 5 stars.

Took the Kukui trail to drop down into the Waimea Canyon. Once on the canyon floor it links up with the Koaie Canyon trail. After a while it became impossible for us to navigate the trail and we were forced to setup camp. We only encountered two other parties while in the canyon. Scenery was absolutely beautiful. The trek back up was a pretty rough. Parking was sketch, as I had read about break-ins. We were able to leave our luggage at a hotel we would be staying at after the backpacking trip. I left the rental car doors unlocked, as there was nothing to steal in the car. Overall a great experience, I just wish there as more information out there about this trip... would have been nice to make it to the falls at the end.

Very short little trail with awesome views of Waimea Canyon. In late May-June the Iliau, a endemic member of the sunflower family, blooms. It is very rare. Take lots of photos but do not harm the plants. Good trail for extended families traveling together from young children to grandparents. Plant identification cards are there.

The parking lot is a mess, the railings are gross and the stairs haven’t been touched in 20 years. C’mon man, Have some pride. When thousands pay $15 or more each day. ($10 per car plus $5 per person) I would expect some clean up effort. The lookout itself is good but maintenance of the facility is seriously lacking.

Gorgeous views of a lush valley! Make sure you stop by and take some photos, it will only take a few minutes!

Pu'u Hinahina Lookout shares a paid parking lot with the Ni'ihau Viewpoint. $10 per car + $5 per person and your ticket is good for all the scenic lookouts in the Waimea Canyon & Koke'e State Parks on the same day. There is a bathroom and a two elevation viewpoint area that has the best views of the canyon, looking towards the East. Visited: January 2023

Limited parking. Great view of the canyon. If this is your first stop for the trip inside the park. There's a kiosk where you can pay card only for $10 per vehicle and additional $5 person in your party.

Loved it. The first time we went, we couldn't see anything because of cloud cover below us. The second time, we thought we went on a clear day, but still couldn't see much by the time we got up there because of clouds. Both times we went in the afternoon. Later, locals told us to go in the morning when it is less cloudy. Still beautiful. The air really is thinner up there. Makes it harder to breathe.

Another great view of the valley. Same fee paid at the kiosk for a pass to all 5 lookouts.

Update 2021 October Another beautiful trip to Kaui and had to make this stop to capture the beautiful landscape! New pictures from my new Canon R5 The Puu Hinahina Lookout provides an expansive view into the Waimea Canyon, which is often called the “Grand Canyon of Hawaii.” From this viewpoint you can peer across the 10-mile-long, 1 mile-wide, 3,500-foot-deep canyon to numerous waterfalls and colorful rock formations.

It's really showing it's age. The Ni'ihau view is almost overgrown and the sign has seen way better days. The good news is that they're resurfacing the parking lot. The bad news is that you'll need to park on the road and that can be hazardous. Still, it's worth the stop!

This is a great lookout onto the spectacular Waimea Canyon. I would highly encourage a stop. Additionally, many beautiful trails into the canyon or the Napali Coast start nearby.

Fun place to watch a movie while on Kauai. They ran the air conditioning too high so it got cold in there, popcorn needs a reboot - not good. Otherwise a good experience with a very fair price. Nice to see an old theatre still being used by a community, we will add it to the list of things to do every time we are back to the island.

Seats were tight on the sides and my knees hit the seat in front of me. There is no room to get up and use the bathroom if you’re in the middle. The seats need a retrofit. Nobody will miss the old seats. The Art Deco style outside is cool. The bathrooms have been renovated and are nice. The concessions were good. The staff was friendly and very concerned with safety. Theater may have been oversold that night though.

Nice theater. Great for concerts and movies. Movie ticket prices are reasonable as are the concession stand prices. I wish they would automate the ticket process and get a scanner for faster check in.

So glad we have a theater here on Kaua’i. It is a fun experience. There is one screen and one showing per day (7 pm). The movie only switches every couple of weeks so we have limited variety. But it’s a super fun activity on an island that doesn’t have much else in the way of indoor activities.

It's a cozy theater. I like that they play the movie on time. At times the screen quality can be really dark. I watched two movies there and both movies had dark scenes to where I didn't know what was happening. Other than that it's a good place to watch movies.

Such a rad little theater. Anyone complaining about the old school atmosphere and finds something this place should “improve” on has bigger issues in their lives. This place is perfect. Makes you feel at home. Staff is beyond nice. Snacks are tasty. Popcorn is buttery. It’s a slice of the past and a simpler time.

Nice little theater. It is small, so come early and be patient please. Seats are ok, and they have limited refreshments, but the air conditioning is nice. Sound system was good, screen was old and small, but movies look good. Only choice on island as of 2022.

Historic theatre from 1938. Really the only theatre in Kauai to watch a movie. Moderately priced. Friendly staff. We live in Port Allen,so it was a short drive.

It's a neat vintage like building, feels like you're living in the past going there. Seats are comfy and the ticket prices are really cheap. It'd be best to purchase tickets online in advance so you're guaranteed to see your movie or at least be aware that the timed showing is sold out. They have limited seating due to Covid so keep that in mind. It's freezing in the rooms so dress a little warmer or bring blankets like some viewers did lol.

Great little pit stop on the way up the canyon! Free to use public restrooms (though you need to go into the center in order to get the key). There are also a lot of great artifacts and exhibits to peruse through to learn more about the history of Waimea and Kauai. The employees are friendly, the bathrooms are clean, and it's a quick walk-through to learn something new! There is not a place to fill up your water though.

Hours are limited but we were lucky they were open. No one in town has a restroom. Thank goodness they were open! Other stores refer people here for the restroom.

Such kind and generous ladies helped us make leis and learn about some of Hawaii's history. Much aloha here.

The employees do not keep the posted hours. You cannot call first to make sure they are open because they do not answer the phone. I would not drive out here for anything. It was expensive and the museum was a joke. It was not even worth the time given that we were driving by.

Hours are 10-4pm, Saturday and Sunday closed. We started hiking before 10pm and came back from the state park after 4pm. There are also no maps available outside.

There's a nice food court with a small variety of options, pizza, burgers, Asian and Dairy Queen. I had the Phõ. So yummy! And the Summer Rolls with the sauce. Delicious!

Food court has several offerings and live Hawaiian music. Very clean and cozy. Food was good but pricey. Typical mall type offerings.

Diversity on many levels. Natural Food market, Foodland, Lilikoi Cafe, L&L and much yummy more! Such as Surf and Clothing stores, postal services and Starbucks! Can't go wrong on these amenities. One stop and shop!!!

Local meeting space. Post office. Tire shop. Both small & major chain groceries, the best burger on island, good Chinese/Korean, a new Boba tea place, Jeans warehouse, free wi-fi AND can dry off if caught in the Kamuela rain. Necessary kine

Love going to the cherry blossom festival here to see all the vendors and support the local businesses. Other than that it is a quiet place to go and relax. Lots of options on restaurants. I can't wait to visit this place again.

Very nice establishment! The Starbucks is a nice place for a pit stop when you arrive in Waimea off the bus. You can sit and sip and charge your phone.

Spacious food court with a good selection of family-run food stands (Thai, Hawaiian, Japanese, burgers) and some corporate options. Clean restrooms ! Lovely murals painted by artist Marcia Ray. If nothing else, come here to admire the art reflecting Hawaii Island’s ranching heritage.

I love their restaurants in the food court. They have Dominoes, Thai food, Don's Chinese kitchen, Yummy Korean BBQ & Dairy Queen. But they have one restaurant called... Village Burger!!!!!! My ABSOLUTE favorite is Village Burger! Fresh grilled burgers blended with different types of beef, they also have Vegetarian & Fish burgers. My favorite is Truffle fries!!!! OMG, IYKYK!! Try Village Burger, you won't regret it!!!!

Awesome shopping plaza with everything you need. It's neat and clean and there is ample parking. I find people to be quite friendly in Waimea.

Good place to get clothes & housewares. Got all these coffee mugs for $1 each (I give them away for people to enjoy their coffee at the coffee shop, then "take out" their coffee in their own mug instead of wasting using a paper cup... coffee tastes better in a mug! I keep a basket of $1 mugs in my car so I always have one handy!) Not much at this thrift store for small appliances & no furniture.

I encounter the living presence of God during prayer on Wednesday and worship on Sunday. The sign out front says "Aloha lives here..." and it is true....

AMAZING park, great for a play stop for the kids if you are driving across the island. There is a smaller child area for 2-5 year olds, then a larger child area for 5-12 years. There are bright colors, murals, musical instruments, ropes, rock climbing walls and a nice picnic area with benches in the shade and sun. One swing needs to be fixed and other older areas need repair but overall a great park.

Nice spacious park. Some picnic tables, restrooms and a beautiful playground for kids. Our furr babies loved cooling off in the shade after our long drive from Kona. Aloha

Lots of space for your little ones to play, they have a specific 2-5 YO section and 5-12 YO section with lots of room to play and share. There are multiple benches with enough shade that most families bring water, snacks, and have breaks throughout their visit. We will be coming back!

It's a wonderful play ground that my son really enjoys. He has always loved going to this park even before it's recent remodeling of the playground. The park is usually cool while still being dry so children can play. The new features that were added during the remodeling of the park like the merry-go-round and the rope Geo structure for climbing are really fun and interesting. It's some place my son got at least a couple of times a week. Even if your just passing through on a long road trip if you have kids I would recommend stopping and letting them and your selves stretch out your legs.

This playground is located in the downtown of Waimea. It is convenient to access this playground. For my family, we usually bring some bento from home or the shop on the way to eat from this playground. There are several benches and tables you could use. It would be a good experience to play with kids on this playground. If you travel with kids, you would consider to stop by this playground to take a break or eat something with kids.

Stopped by this park to kill time, and my kids (6 and 4) really enjoyed it. Pretty enclosed and good for various ages.

A great playground for keiki with character, charm and its right across the Saturday farmers market at Parker School! It makes visiting the farmers market as a family convenient!

Decently sized playground with plenty of everything to do. Lots of play structures and shades and benches around the edges. Parking can be a bit of a pain because of how popular this place is. But you'll be able to find street parking around.
