Great Ruins of a temple known for creative architecture from past generation. They have parking available and buggy service available too, buggy is 20rs per head for two way and it will take you near to the main temple. It is fair way for the price. Entrance ticket is 40rs which can be used for lotus mahal as well. We have purchased our ticked at lotus mahal which have been used for entrance here. Main attraction was the stone chariot & musical pillars. The ruins are beautiful architectures , few spots definitely needs restoration in order to save our ancient history. The musical pillars are currently in renovation which is why entry is not permitted inside but can be seen from out. Guides are available on site who can guide you with the history. Definitely a place to visit.

Stone chariot and musical pillars(not allowed to enter the place) are here in ruined condition (off-course whole hampi monuments are in ruined condition), old aged tree. Better to take long buggy car from entrance to temple place if it’s hot not suggestive to walk. It was Sunny and Windy day and rested here at one of the mandapam near stone chariot. Due to G20 summit venue there were lots of repair works inside and outside under progress ultimately benefiting visitors for easy moving.

Beautiful We can buy tickets once we reach there. It's easy to scan and buy tickets. Tickets are valid for one day From parking there is around 1 km to the temple. Golf cart is available to travel to and fro. 20 rs for both side for one person. We might have to wait as there is long queue. One vehicle fits in 9 passengers there are more than 5 vehicles though. This beautiful place is the ruins of vijayanagar empire which still attracts tourists from across the globe. The place is at a distance of 1km from the main road from where one can take electric cart at Rs 20 pp. The entry ticket into the temple area is Rs 40 pp which can be used to visit other historical places at hampi. One can witness an amazing sunset at the back of the temple. Entry to the musical pillars area is currently restricted. It is better to carry cash as the network coverage is very poor.

One of the finest works of the Vijayanagar architecture. Sad the temple is almost in ruins and that one is not allowed to visit the main temple but the complex. But one can enjoy the carvings from the outside. The stone chariot is the star attraction.

Nice place, less crowded and the place is filled with spots for photographs. There is electric vehicle available for up & down transport. But if you walk you would get totally different experience. On the way lots of small small views are there also view of anjayadri hill from here is a splendid one.

One of the best place to represent the India Tourism. Such a beautiful place and luckily we visited on Monday and it was not crowded at all. We have ample time to spend at every nook on corner of this beautiful monument . We got the ticket for just Rs 30 which can be used at number of places. There is no photography charges. The battery operated car will ferry you from parking to main entrance at a minimal cost of rs 20. The legendary story of Ramayana was depicted in the wall of this monument. A guide for full day will be available at Rs 2500 and it is good to have guide if accompanied by children . Guide will provide the details and kids will enjoy the story. We visited the temple on a public holiday and emhence it was super crowded. There is INR20 cab ride from start point to main temple area. If the weather is good and you can walk, I would advise to do so. Because there are a lot of small ruins in between which you would miss when travelling through buggy. It is sad the buggy do not stop in between to show other amazing stops. It is absolutely worth visiting this place to witness the past.

Beautiful monument and temple. Booking tickets online will save you money and time. Try to make it to the temple early in the morning especially during summer months, not a lot of shade and it gets very hot from noon till 5 pm. There is a 1 km walk from parking, or a shuttle. The shuttle is not sufficient for the crowd, so might end up waiting up to an hour depending on the crowd, one shuttle transports 9 people and they have 3 shuttles running. If you decide to walk, there’s no wait, but not a lot of shade on the path. Would recommend hiring a guide if you are interested in learning the stories carved on the walls and pillars.

Famous tourist spot. We visited on 15 January & it was very crowded due to the festival and Sunday. Parking was 500 meters away from the main entrance, so we had to take an auto from there. After reaching the main entrance, we took a battery operated vehicle to reach the main temple area. Charges were Rs.10 per person. Ticket for the main temple area was Rs.40 per person. A very big area with many temples/ruins. Many guides are available. The famous chariot from the Rs.50 note was the main attraction. In return, again the battery operated vehicle took us back to the main entrance.

Wonderful place....the chariot inside is what u find on the backside of a Rupees 50 note...nice carvings , beautiful architecture...awed at the way such things were done without any modern knowledge and resources expertise.. U have to walk for a km from the parking till the temple or stand in a queue and climb on the battery operated vehicle...ticket fare is 40 per adult...

This is one of the temple complexes in Hampi. You can witness the stone chariot and music pillars though you cannot touch the music pillars. You have to walk nearly 1km to reach the complex from the parking area, it is better to use the electric caddy service provided as it will be sunny and hot.

Great Place, amazing architecture, constructed by stone about a 700 years ago. The Stone Chariot is a must see in real. Amazing place to visit for history buffs. I wish the temple was maintained well, no restrooms and the transport is tough but if you get there you will be rewarded highly.

There is so much to know and learn about our rich cultural heritage that’s completely missing from the tex books and can’t be covered in school curriculum. The only word that comes to my mind after seeing this structure is Brilliance! What a beautiful piece of artwork- every inch of the masterpiece is so amazingly built that words are not enough to describe it. The setting is superb! The carvings on the pillars are fabulous. Must visit place in Hampi Ample parking space available From the parking there is a long walk(around 750 meters) to the actual temple. Its worth the walk if you do not want to miss the old market place ruins and beautiful pond on the way. Battery operated vehicles are also available if there are kids and elders.(Rs 20 per head)There will be some queue , but it moves fast. Once you reach the actual temple a nominal fee of Rs 40 is charged per head. It is worth taking a guide if you are really interested about the glorious history of the place. You find certified guides around the temple.They charge around 500rs to show the temple around. But knowing the history really adds value to our visit, which otherwise would end up just as a selfie destination.

The majestic temple is an absolute man made marvel. Even in the scorching heat in peak summer, you would still end un enjoying visiting the place. The guides here charge a mere 300 INR but again their commitment to helping you understand the beautiful history of the place is average (value for money). Ideally you should visit this place either early in the morning or late in the evening to beat the heart and do have a guide to tag along. Don’t walk to the temple, take a e-rickshaw and while returning you can walk if you want.

One of the most popular place in Hampi. The stone chariot printed in the 50rs note is located here. If you are coming by own vehicle you can drive upto the parking and from there we get the buggy vehicle for the 1km distance to the temple or else can walk. If you are visiting Hampi by public transport then the best way to reach here is to walk from Hampi bazaar area which will be a distance of 2.5km. This walk through the beautiful historical remains of Hampi including Achyutaraaya temple & Kings balance is a great experience. The distance to here from Virupaksha temple by road is 8km and autos may charge 300-400rs. You will get autos nearby the parking area. Couldn't find any buses to here. The place is very beautiful and well maintained. Ticket rate was 40rs and we can use the same ticket for other monuments in Hampi.

Hampi is a place which has a lot of monuments spread across an area of more than few square kilometres. You will always find a board in all the monuments which states where you are along with a list of more than 60 places to see or visit. Refer to the pics posted in this review and you can see a lot of the items. You need to understand that touring hampi is not a days job. It will take 3 days to see all the spectacular sites. It hurts to see so much destruction done by humans in the past. Imagine these over 650 yrs old and still standing. The natural damage is way less than damages done by humans. Every where you go there will be a cluster of things to see and you can see them one by one. All maybe listed as different places in maps but you have to understand that they are different architectural marvels but located within the vicinity of a major grand structure. There's 11 Elephant's stables. All of them are interconnected with each other. There is entry fee of Rs.40 per Indian adult. Inside this complex there are plenty of historical monuments. The whole building looks symmetric with respect to this central hall. The tower of the central hall resembles (though mostly destroyed) more like that of temples. However the five pairs of domes on either side are of Islamic in style. They are better preserved and of alternating patterns. Metal hooks (used to tie the elephants) on the inside roof can be seen. At the rear of each hall are small manhole type openings for the mahouts to enter the elephant compartments. It's one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site A big Lawn Area to sit and relax, fresh air it was awesome experience.. Try to visit in the morning or evening.

Elephant Stable is a place where the elephants of Vijayanagara dynasty live, feed and sleep. This place has a huge entrance sufficient for a fully grown elephant to enter. Interiors are very spacious and well ventilated. Outside the stables it is full of greenery with ample of space for elephants to move freely 😎

This place was constructed for the elephants of Vijayanagara dynasty. Each stable is tall and huge which can comfortably accommodate a fully grown elephant. Very old construction, well maintained. Outside the stables it’s an open ground, which is full of green grass. It will hardly take 10-15 minutes to visit this place completely. If you wanna spend more time you can go for a stroll in the open ground which is surrounded by big trees.

The elephant stable is a long building with a rectangular shape. The building has a row of eleven huge domed chambers. Each chamber is large enough to accommodate two elephants at a time. The domed chambers are interconnected with large arched openings. The walls between the arches have small doorways.

Huge stable for elephants made with pure architectural intelligence, even they thought of giving the elephant a beautiful sunset view. One will definitely want to look into past to see this wonderful view. You can also enjoy the beautiful sunset from this stable and let your inner animal to enjoy the sunset.

Elephant's stable is considered to be the stable for the state elephants. However, it is also argued to be a palace secretariat. The long rectangular structure is 85 X 10 metre in dimension. Above the central chamber is a ruined two storeyed structure that is reached by two staircase.

Beautiful structure inside janana enclosure meant for maintaining elephants. The structure has individual rooms for each elephant. These rooms are really big. The area is very neatly maintained with beautiful lawn and chairs for sitting. This and lotus mahal are paid visits and for Indians the ticket price is 35 each for individuals above 15 years.

If anything is there to show the greatness of Vijayanagar Empire this Elephant Stable is one such example. Huge and magnanimous creation just for the elephants to stay under shade.

Lakshmi Narasimha Temple is a magnificent monolithic sculpture of Lakshmiha the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. 6.7metre high statue was partly damaged by the invaders and the seated figure of consort Lakshmi is missing. Surrounding the temple complex are the remnants of a once-thriving city, with intricately carved pillars, ancient sculptures, and crumbling structures that tell the story of Hampi's illustrious past.

The original statue contained the image of goddess Lakshmi, consort of the god, sitting on his lap. But this statue has been damaged seriously during the raid leading to the fall of Vijayanagara. Even the damaged portion of such a large statue of Lakshmi carved on his lap is missing. Probably it may be laying around in tiny pieces. But the goddess’s hand is visible resting on his back in embracing posture. If you get a chance to go inside this enclosure, it is possible to see the hand of the goddess. Even the nails & the rings on her fingers are so perfectly executed. Lion face of Lakshmi Narasimha also sometimes called as Unganarasimha (the ferocious Narasimha) Somehow this single statue alone can demonstrate at the same time how creative and destructive the human mind can be. The Hindu mythology has a tale of Narasimha’s origin. See the story of Narasimha. You can reach this spot by the main road. The shrine is located at mid way of the main road that connects the Sacred Center to the Royal Center. About 200 meters south of the Krishna Temple (take the road that runs through the arch) you can spot a small canal crossing the road. An unpaved path at the right side (towards west) leads you to the Narasimha statue and the Badavilinga Temple next to it.

This 'temple' is known for the monolithic idol of Lord Narasimha, the fourth avatar of Lord Vishnu, which stands about 20 feet tall. The Lord is seated on the coils of Adisesha, with its seven goods acting as a canopy. The roof of the chamber is missing, so there is some damage to the idol. The usual idol of Goddess Lakshmi on his left lap is missing. The temple is believed to have been consecrated in 1538 AD, as per the inscription. Lakshmi Narasimha Temple is a magnificent monolithic sculpture. The height of the statue is around 6-7metre and the statue was partly damaged. The temple is adjacent to Badavalinga temple and can be seen in the same visit. Grasslands and fields cover the surrounding areas.

This Lakshmi Narasimha statue is very huge. This giant statue is located next to Krishna devalaya and near from Virupaksha temple. Badavilinga is located right next to this place. Some of the parts of this statue is destroyed by Bahamani's like hand, and Goddess Lakshmi statue. So no we can see only Narasimha. One can easily recognise this from the road and this is on the route to Vijaya Viththala temple from Virupaksha temple. Entry is Free.

This is the largest statue of Lakshmi Narasimha in Hampi. The sculpture looks quite marvelous. It is slightly damaged. This temple is adjacent to Badavilinga Temple. If you observe closely, lord Ugra Narasimha is seated on Adisesha and its hand provides canopy. The goddesses Lakshmi`s which was on its lap was damaged and separated during invasions and presently it is in kamalapura museum.

This place was amazing. It’s surrounded by greenery but its always hot there as they call hampi as “bisilendau” …means a place which is always hot. But the monuments are really great even though its mostly ruined.

A majestic site in the middle of Hampi. The huge monolithic statue of Narsimha graces us with the beauty and grandeur. I was fortunate to visit it during my recent solo motorcycle ride to Karnataka. The site is hugely popular and is nicely maintained. Ample space for parking as well. 100% recommended for everyone visiting Hampi.

You need to trek to reach the top I would recommend old aged people not to trek as the terrain is bit tough and risky. After trekking the view from the top and sunrise and the whole vijayangar empire visibility is mesmerizing. Worth to trek and watch the view.

Matanga Hill is a rocky hill in the Matanga hill range,Hampi, Karnataka, southern India. The hill is supposedly a holy land from the Hindu Ramayana epic. The Matanga hill range served as a natural boundary of Hampi (Vijayanagara), which was the capital city of its namesake empire. Since the hills were a defense against attacks from outside lands, the Sangama brothers purposely put Vijayanagara there. Matanga Hill is a holy site, and thus has been a center of Hinduism for centuries. The hill was home to many more temples as well as bazaars and shops along long streetsthan there are today during the Vijayanagara time, before the empire was defeated by the Deccan Sultans from what is now central India. The city was plundered and burned to the ground. Hampi and the Matanga Hill temples are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site (since 1986), as they were rediscovered by the British Raj in the year 1800. UNESCO built hotels, hice, restaurants and small stores under a jurisdiction on ancient Hindu relics in 2012, at the cost of the homes of 300 people and the Virupaksha Temple.

What a view from here!!! Just wow. It’s adjacent to “Achyutaraya temple” with a steep climb but a good reasonable one. It took us approximately 20-30min to climb with careful steps. The view from top is mesmerising. It gives a beautiful view of “VIRUPAKSHA TEMPLE” , “ACHYUTARAYA TEMPLE AND BAZAR”, “MONOLITH BULL”, “TUNGABHADRA RIVER” , “KRISHNA TEMPL” etc. worth the climb and sweat 😬

It is the highest peak of Hampi and gives incredible views from the top of the hill. It's a must visit place in Hampi. The trek to the top of the hill is worth every effort. It gives a 360 degree view of the half destroyed Hampi. The roof top of the Veerabhadra Temple is the ideal place for sunrise and sunset in Hampi. This was a heritage of Sage Mathanga of the mythology Ramayana. Just visit a bit early as this place is normally flooded with tourists...

Amazing place. There are two routes, one is the tough route and the other is the easy one. While climbing up we took the tough route, which only gets tough at the last 10% of the path where you have to scramble across few rocks to reach the top. The view on the top is amazing. You get the bird's eye view of the entire place. My imagination ran wild, as I envisioned the entire city of vijayanagara at the peak of its glory. While descending, we took the easy path.

It’s a very beautiful place. You’ll get to see lots of monkey’s over here and you must be very careful of your belongings when they’re around. There aren’t lots of food options at this place. If you don’t want to die hungry, you must carry your own snacks or food. The weather in December 2023 was very sunny and you might need sunglasses and cap. There is ample of place for car parking.

Stunning sunrise from here..not much elevation still gives nice views..must go before sunrise to get a wonderful time with morning mist

Apart from being considered the centre of Hampi, it is also the highest point in the town, and visitors generally male a beeline ti this place to view the sunrise & sunset. One can get splendid views of the bazaars, the Tungabhadra river and some prominent temples, specifically the Virupaksha Temple from its summit. The Matanga Hill is steeped in legend and a lot of mythological lore is associated with this hill. The principal one is that due to a curse the Vanara King Vali couldn't step on this hillock, so Sugriva and his band of followers made this hill their home.

Place has amazing sunset views. But little difficult to climb if one is not used to. Wear sports shoes as it will provide proper grip while climbing. And carry a water bottle. And wear comfortable clothes. ❤️ Once you reach the uphill all the tiredness will be gone.

Beautiful place to enjoy sunrise as well as sunset. Hiked twice to the top. Serene. Much less crowded, very serene, best of all four hikes done at hampi. Difficult for older people as paths to the top are not paved, but rocky, unlike anjanadri. Monkeys can create nuisances, so care is needed while carrying bags water bottles, caps etc.

To climb Matang hill is a great experience.We have to climb of rocks & boulders to reach at the top. We can see beautiful view from the top. We can see Virupaksha temple, bazaar, Achutaraya temple from the top. Amazing place for sunrise & sunset.

To get to the top, you must hike. Older individuals shouldn't go trekking because the terrain is a little difficult and dangerous. After a hike, the sunrise and visibility of the entire Vijayangar empire are breathtaking. Worth the hike to take in the scenery. There are two paths, one of which is challenging and the other rather simple. Since you can view everything again from the top, this area should only be visited after visiting all the nearby attractions.

One needs to hike all the way up here to catch the sunrise. There's a temple all the way top, you can choose to skip that as it involves a 5-10m dangerous section of walking over a large rock. Sunrise is just amazing! One can catch the glimpse of the ruins of the old hampi city very well on 2 sides. There's no refreshment or shops or toilets above. Make sure to carry a bottle of water. Beware of monkeys or look forward to meeting them, depending upon you!

Lotus Mahal inside the Zenana enclosure was used by the Queen for rest and relaxation. It is designed to keep the place very cool in the hot summer of Hampi. Wind can pass from all four sides providing good ventilation. Within the walls there are mud pipes connected to the water tank on top of the Lotus Mahal, this cools the place (similar to the Clay water bottles). The structure is better preserved compared to other buildings given the destruction by the invaders.

Lotus Mahal is one of the most famous architectural landmarks in Hampi. Its lotus-like structure immediately endears it to visitors and is a must-visit place. This building lies within the Zenana Enclosure, which was a segregated area used by royal women of the Vijayanagara dynasty. The palace is a two-storeyed structure and has been symmetrically designed. Surrounded by a rectangular wall, it has four towers in a pyramidal shape that look like a lotus as well. The walls and pillars both have beautiful carvings of birds and sea creatures on them.

Beautiful monument with intricate work. Built fairly recently. There were stairs to view the area from top of mahal. But visitors are allowed to see from outside only. Couple of trees with wierd trunks nearby which took my attention. Elephant stables, Watch towers can also be covered during this visit. Recommended timings: Early morning or late evening

Part of the Royal Enclosure, and a really beautiful small building with delicate carvings and in a beautiful lotus shape. We have to see from outside as it is not allowed to step inside, there are barriers to prevent that. Elephant stables and housing quarters for the mahouts nearby is also a must visit.

Amongst the few structures in Hampi which has not taken major damage and is mostly intact. Beautiful summer palace for the queen and her friends which is made of terracotta. There are provisions for water to trickle from the top through channels sourced by hand from the well nearby to keep it cool. One of the facts which stood out to me is that eunuchs guarded the queen in her times.

The Lotus Mahal is an example of Vijayanagara style of architecture and is a two storied structure. King krishnadevara used it as his council chamber for meeting with his ministers. The palace was also used as a relaxing place for the royal family. The same ticket purchased in vijay vittala temple can be used as an entrance ticket here on same day.

In simple words it is believed that this Mahal was the resting place of queens of Vijaynagar Kingdom. The beauty of the place lies in its construction and arrangement of water pillars and drains all around the Mahal to keep the place cool in summer. Fantastic engineering works with the use of flowing water from nearby Tungbhandara River.

The place is said to be a part of queens palace. It was one of the palaces built by the king for his queen. It is such a beautiful struysyandinh amidst greenary. The place is very old and hence when we visited support work for the structure was going on hence going inside or near the structure was not permitted. The place comes under nesco world heritage site hence conserved

A tour to Hampi is incomplete without visiting Lotus Mahal. It is one of the fine architectural designed palaces that are uniquely identified by its lotus look like structure. This glorious building is within the Zenana Enclosure, a segregated area that is used by the royal women of Vijayanagara Dynasty. The Lotus Mahal is otherwise called the Kamal Mahal or Chitragani Mahal. It’s remarkable and unmistakable design is the main highlight of the palace. It is one of only a handful few astonishing building in Hampi that had not been damaged or destroyed amid the attack on the city.

Only few monuments of Hampi has Indo-Islamic Architecture and Lotus Maha is one of them. It's a two storey building and the design of the pillars and ventilation facility provided within the Mahal is good. Legend says this used to be Queen place. This Mahal isn't damaged although nearby monuments were damaged.

Lotus Mahal Hampi is one of the marvellous structures made of granite stone and it's a summer palace of the royal family. Two Jain temples remaining are also there in the back side. ASI is looking after this place. Visitors need to maintain its sanctity.

Lotus mahal is built in Indo-Islamic architecture and is built in the shape of lotus flower. The complex has Lotus mahal, Elephant stable, Ranga temple, Vaishnava temple, Shrungarada hebbagilu, Zanana enclosure and basement of queen's palace. You need an entry ticket (Rs.40) to get inside the complex, but the same ticket can be used to visit Virupaksha temple. The place is well maintained with many security guards and cleaning staff. The garden is also well maintained.

Very attractive and looks greatly and we can spend time there the areas behind the Mahal is very nice and right side of Lotus Mahal one well is here which is built in centuries ago don't miss it see. Located within the Royal Enclosure area, it's a good looking structure although different from other stone structures and ruins in Hampi. And unlike Queen's bath and other structures, people were are not allowed to enter the Lotus Mahal. Not too far from Queen's bath, you can drive down and park comfortably. Since the area is large and many things to see, better to plan early morning or late afternoon when it's cooler. If interested in detailed information, better to hire a guide. If you have already visited other places where you would have bought a ticket, same can be used here also, no need to buy entrance ticket again as we found.

Lotus temple is one of most beautiful piece of architecture in Hampi. It is depiction of Indo Persian architecture. The temple is in the queen's palace area of Hampi. There are terecota pipes inside the walls to control the temperature during summers.This is one of the most beautiful structures in Hampi. Very much photogenic. Saw few boys/girls doing a sketching of this structure while sitting on the lawns around the Mahal. There is an entry fee for this Mahal. If you visit during the evening, the evening light just glows the whole mahal making it a stunning visual. Overall nice place.

Lotus Mahal or Chitrangini Mahal is an important secular structure in Hampi, India. The Lotus Mahal is an example of Vijayanagara style of architecture and is a two storied structure built in Rubble masonry and finely plastered. The structure was used as residue place for royal family of the Vijayanagara Empire. Lotus Mahal literally means " Palace of Lotus". This structure was made for the Royal family of the Vijayanagara Empire. The palace stands around a walled compound near the Royal centre. The structure is laid out symmetrically with equal projections on four sides. The dome gives an illustration of an open lotus bud. The curves of the palace are inspired by the Islamic architecture and protect the palace from harsh weather conditions. It has two storeys, both with arched openings in multiple planes surrounded by elaborate plaster designs. It has total of eight pyramidal towers over the corners and one big tower in the middle of the structure and is supported by 24 pillars. The pyramidal tower is influenced by Indian Architecture. The pillars are decorated with stone carved aquatic animals, plants etc. The palace is built by bricks and mortar.The ground floor is raised on a high ornamental stone basement with doubled recessed angles.

Lotus Mahal is an important monument in Hampi. Lotus Mahal is a virtual air conditioned residence built for one of the two wives of Vijayanagara ruler Krishnadevaraya. Lotus Mahal or Chitrangini Mahal is an important secular structure in Hampi, India. The Lotus Mahal is an example of Vijayanagara style of architecture and is a two storied structure built in Rubble masonry and finely plastered. The structure was used as residue place for royal family of the Vijayanagara Empire. The palace is built by bricks and mortar.The ground floor is raised on a high ornamental stone basement with doubled recessed angles The palace is built in the Zenana enclosure and was reserved for the royal women of the Vijayanagara Empire. according to historical accounts, the structure was built to serve the royal women of the empire. Also the king Krishnadevaraya used it as his council chamber for meeting with his ministers Elephant stables and Kamal Mahal are classic examples of Indo Islamic fusion Architecture.

You can scan the QR code there and buy tickets online. This is one of the few places in Hampi that’s almost always crowded (lots of large groups, school trips). The complex has many places that you can see - Lotus mahal, elephant’s stable, some temples at the back and ruins. Expect spending around 1-1.5 hours.

This place is also referred to as a council chamber. It is one of the fine architecturally designed palaces that are uniquely identified by its lotus look-like structure. This glorious building is within the Zenana Enclosure, a segregated area that is used by the royal women of Vijayanagara Dynasty. The Lotus Mahal is also called by the name Kamal Mahal or Chitragani Mahal. Its remarkable and unmistakable design is the main highlight of the palace. It is one of only a handful of astonishing buildings in Hampi that had not been damaged or destroyed amid the attack on the city. 24 pillars are present to support the arched windows and balcony of the palace. The walls and pillars are carved beautifully with patterns like sea creatures and birds. They have designed hooks on each corner/pillar to decorate white cloths around the mahal. During the evening this mahal glows and gives a remarkable beautiful look to the visitors. When the lights are turned on, the entire mahal can be seen in a golden colour! Cooling System at Lotus Mahal architecture: The ceiling that was used as vents for air conditioning. This was the system used to keep the mahal cold and used as a summer getaway. The Lotus Mahal had this special structure where the roof and walls had holes with mud pipes throughout the building. There is a well next to the mahal where the queen's helpers would fetch water and pour it from the top. The pipes circulate water and keep the hall/inner space of the palace cooler for days. The mahal was unique. The palace has a unique air conditioning system. The pillars are hollow and there is a small tank on top of the palace which provides a cooling effect. Amazing architecture .

It’s like a lotus but from the top which u cannot access without a drone shot. It’s amongst a cluster of other buildings surrounding it and is a good point to click pics and think about the past.

This is a famous ancient Pushkarani in Hampi. Pushkarani literally means a holy water tank or a well or a reservoir built to carry out various rituals associated with a Hindu temple. This is actually a Pushkarani with steps going down the water level, hence it is called a Stepped Tank. What is impressive to see is the highly symmetrical layout of the steps used to build this Pushkarani. Its a sight to behold and once again shows the enormous architectural beauty and the excellence of the craftsmen of the Vijayanagara empire. Should be a must visit place in your Hampi itinerary.

From Mahanavami Dibba, we walked towards the stepped tank which is in the same enclosure. This stepped tank was excavated in the 1980s and is one of the beautiful water tanks. Stepped tank built in the 15th century is a beautiful ornate tank in the royal enclosure, Hampi, Karnataka. The tank is totally different from other structures of Hampi as the Stepped Tank is constructed using finely finished blocks of black schist stones. All the steps or stones bears some sketches and marks made by the architects. The main purpose of this tank is not known for sure but was used for religious ceremonies by the royals. These tanks were used for rituals, cleansing and during rites of concretion. The water tanks are considered sacred from the Ganges and even used for immersing of Ganesha idols. Usually, these tanks are made near the temples and used to accommodate bathing, cleansing activities before prayers. The tank is around 22 square meter in area and 7 meters in depth. There are 5 tiers, each comprising a few steps which are symmetrically laid. The area is smaller at the bottom of the tank. The water for the tank is sourced from river Tungabhadra through stone ducts engineered those days.

Though there wasn't any water in the tank, yet it looked so amazing!

Wonderful symmetry. This tank has pyramid shaped steps. Beautifully laid black stones which is used to store water. Looks like the 3d architecture, splendid place.

Mesmerizing symmetry. The tank has 100 steps, 5 in each of the pyramid shaped structures. You can not step into the tank to see this, but if you look closely, you'll find Kannada letters on these steps. They are a little hard to recognize as those letters are probably old script. I reached this place in the evening and the sun was setting, adding to the picturesque beauty.

One Word: Perfection. History: The stepped tank is a structure used to hold water with decorative, triangle shaped steps arranged symmetrically around the tank that would’ve taken people down to the water level. It’s original purpose was unknown, although it’s proposed that the tank was originally used for water sports. Step-wells are always fascinating and one marvels at the symmetry and design that was created centuries ago. This palace complex is no exception. Beautifully structured, one is filled with awe after seeing the photographs of the original excavation site in the museum. The water drainage system is an interesting thing to observe. One of the most interesting places to visit in the gem city of Hampi.

It was very interesting to see how these reservoirs were made and planned. I wonder how it would have been now if they were maintained for functional purpose and not just for tourism. Indian monuments and architecture always amazes.

Hidden in the ruins of the Lotus palace "STEPPED TANK" is an engineering Marvel. It will be a small adventure to find this tank😅 that you will love it.!! The symmetry of this structure will make you sit and wonder how it was made in those old times (Ancient aliens show theme music😆 JK) You can also find a channel from which water flows into the tank. Historic chamber which used for bath by the king and his wives with outdoor pool. Masterpiece of its own, a marvel of great engineering. A worth to watch and get some good clicks.

This place is in Hampi. Queen's Bathhouse. History said that at the time of King impire, All Queens came here for Bath for special occasions. This is a very specific and structural monument. Old structure building construction. Piller and windows and gates are awesome.

This is the queen's bathhouse which is the bath place for the queen's. The place is close to the royal palace. The water used to be filled to the brim from the Tungbhadra River. The water was scented with Roses and Jasmine. The lawns around here are well maintained. It is recommended you visit this during the golden hours as this place lights up beautifully during this time.

The royal life is always rich in splendor and architecture. This is the bath place of the queen's in royal family. There is a moat around the place. Then two stories hall on all the four sides. Water used to bed brought from Tungabhadra through stone viaducts. Sometimes the maid issues to poor the water from first floor. There is also a separate room for dress changing. The water first child three most then the water overflows into the pond within for walls. All the square half around the pool are having different architecture above them and not similar to others.

Queen's Bath is an important structure in Zenana Enclosure area with a large bathing area was meant for Queens of Vijayanagar Empire. It is preserved mostly and one can see the water ducts and connectivities throughout...there is a walkway along with some decorated / plastered balconies which would have been used for getting ready for rituals...

The Queen's Bathhouse is located in the South East of the Royal Enclosure with a separate enclosed space consisting of a complex of changing rooms and a bath. The structure has an Indo-Islamic style architecture. There are inlets around the structure. I'm not sure if the water was cold or there was some kind of heating mechanism, especially for the winters. There were probably guards standing guard when the royal women were bathing.

Queen's Bath is a structure built in Vijayanagar era in Indo- Islamic style. It is a square shaped structure with Corridor. The bath area is around 6 to 7 feet deep with water inlets. The water is supplied from the canals that run around the building. It also has eight balconies, two on each side, projecting into the bath. The entrance to the structure is from right side. It also has steps to reach the terrace but it is closed for general public. The structure is cool and very Picturesque.

A beautiful site in the middle of Hampi. I was fortunate to visit this during my recent solo motorcycle ride to Karnataka. The site is very well maintained and ample parking space is also available. 100% recommended for everyone visiting Hampi.

Nice place .. even though there is record of history.. this monument is worth visiting.. this place is near to elephants stables and lotus mahal.. best time to visit during morning hours.. Tickets not required.. one can cover other near by places .. Private vehicles preferred..

Great Ruins of a temple known for creative architecture from past generation. They have parking available and buggy service available too, buggy is 20rs per head for two way and it will take you near to the main temple. It is fair way for the price. Entrance ticket is 40rs which can be used for lotus mahal as well. We have purchased our ticked at lotus mahal which have been used for entrance here. Main attraction was the stone chariot & musical pillars. The ruins are beautiful architectures , few spots definitely needs restoration in order to save our ancient history. The musical pillars are currently in renovation which is why entry is not permitted inside but can be seen from out. Guides are available on site who can guide you with the history. Definitely a place to visit.

Stone chariot and musical pillars(not allowed to enter the place) are here in ruined condition (off-course whole hampi monuments are in ruined condition), old aged tree. Better to take long buggy car from entrance to temple place if it’s hot not suggestive to walk. It was Sunny and Windy day and rested here at one of the mandapam near stone chariot. Due to G20 summit venue there were lots of repair works inside and outside under progress ultimately benefiting visitors for easy moving.

Beautiful We can buy tickets once we reach there. It's easy to scan and buy tickets. Tickets are valid for one day From parking there is around 1 km to the temple. Golf cart is available to travel to and fro. 20 rs for both side for one person. We might have to wait as there is long queue. One vehicle fits in 9 passengers there are more than 5 vehicles though. We can see the temple explore the place and come back to the parking area Please carry hat/cap/umbrella and water bottle along

This beautiful place is the ruins of vijayanagar empire which still attracts tourists from across the globe. The place is at a distance of 1km from the main road from where one can take electric cart at Rs 20 pp. The entry ticket into the temple area is Rs 40 pp which can be used to visit other historical places at hampi. One can witness an amazing sunset at the back of the temple. Entry to the musical pillars area is currently restricted. It is better to carry cash as the network coverage is very poor.

One of the finest works of the Vijayanagar architecture. Sad the temple is almost in ruins and that one is not allowed to visit the main temple but the complex. But one can enjoy the carvings from the outside. The stone chariot is the star attraction.

Nice place, less crowded and the place is filled with spots for photographs. There is electric vehicle available for up & down transport. But if you walk you would get totally different experience. On the way lots of small small views are there also view of anjayadri hill from here is a splendid one.

One of the best place to represent the India Tourism. Such a beautiful place and luckily we visited on Monday and it was not crowded at all. We have ample time to spend at every nook on corner of this beautiful monument . We got the ticket for just Rs 30 which can be used at number of places. There is no photography charges. The battery operated car will ferry you from parking to main entrance at a minimal cost of rs 20. The legendary story of Ramayana was depicted in the wall of this monument. A guide for full day will be available at Rs 2500 and it is good to have guide if accompanied by children . Guide will provide the details and kids will enjoy the story. The stone Chariot in the center which is featured in Rs 50 note can be witnessed

We visited the temple on a public holiday and emhence it was super crowded. There is INR20 cab ride from start point to main temple area. If the weather is good and you can walk, I would advise to do so. Because there are a lot of small ruins in between which you would miss when travelling through buggy. It is sad the buggy do not stop in between to show other amazing stops. It is absolutely worth visiting this place to witness the past.

Beautiful monument and temple. Booking tickets online will save you money and time. Try to make it to the temple early in the morning especially during summer months, not a lot of shade and it gets very hot from noon till 5 pm. There is a 1 km walk from parking, or a shuttle. The shuttle is not sufficient for the crowd, so might end up waiting up to an hour depending on the crowd, one shuttle transports 9 people and they have 3 shuttles running. If you decide to walk, there’s no wait, but not a lot of shade on the path. Would recommend hiring a guide if you are interested in learning the stories carved on the walls and pillars.

So much touched by the ruins of the ancient iconic temple that has amazing stone structures such as the incomparable stone chariot and the fascinating musical pillars.The temple exemplifies the immense creativity and architectural excellence possessed by the sculptors and artisans of the Vijayanagara times.

Famous tourist spot. We visited on 15 January & it was very crowded due to the festival and Sunday. Parking was 500 meters away from the main entrance, so we had to take an auto from there. After reaching the main entrance, we took a battery operated vehicle to reach the main temple area. Charges were Rs.10 per person. Ticket for the main temple area was Rs.40 per person. A very big area with many temples/ruins. Many guides are available. The famous chariot from the Rs.50 note was the main attraction. In return, again the battery operated vehicle took us back to the main entrance.

Wonderful place....the chariot inside is what u find on the backside of a Rupees 50 note...nice carvings , beautiful architecture...awed at the way such things were done without any modern knowledge and resources expertise.. U have to walk for a km from the parking till the temple or stand in a queue and climb on the battery operated vehicle...ticket fare is 40 per adult...

This is one of the temple complexes in Hampi. You can witness the stone chariot and music pillars though you cannot touch the music pillars. You have to walk nearly 1km to reach the complex from the parking area, it is better to use the electric caddy service provided as it will be sunny and hot.

Great Place, amazing architecture, constructed by stone about a 700 years ago. The Stone Chariot is a must see in real. Amazing place to visit for history buffs. I wish the temple was maintained well, no restrooms and the transport is tough but if you get there you will be rewarded highly.

Amazing experience to visit this temple and great experience for the kids as well. There is so much to know and learn about our rich cultural heritage that’s completely missing from the tex books and can’t be covered in school curriculum. The only word that comes to my mind after seeing this structure is Brilliance! What a beautiful piece of artwork- every inch of the masterpiece is so amazingly built that words are not enough to describe it. The setting is superb! The carvings on the pillars are fabulous. Hats of to the artisans who created such a beautiful temple!

Beautiful scenic and knowledgeable place to visit. It shows culture we follow. Enjoyed most at this place. Trust me have enough of time to visit this place. You will need time at this place. They have electric vehicle available from parking till temple entry.

Must visit place in Hampi Ample parking space available From the parking there is a long walk(around 750 meters) to the actual temple. Its worth the walk if you do not want to miss the old market place ruins and beautiful pond on the way. Battery operated vehicles are also available if there are kids and elders.(Rs 20 per head)There will be some queue , but it moves fast. Once you reach the actual temple a nominal fee of Rs 40 is charged per head. It is worth taking a guide if you are really interested about the glorious history of the place. You find certified guides around the temple.They charge around 500rs to show the temple around. But knowing the history really adds value to our visit, which otherwise would end up just as a selfie destination.

The majestic temple is an absolute man made marvel. Even in the scorching heat in peak summer, you would still end un enjoying visiting the place. The guides here charge a mere 300 INR but again their commitment to helping you understand the beautiful history of the place is average (value for money). Ideally you should visit this place either early in the morning or late in the evening to beat the heart and do have a guide to tag along. Don’t walk to the temple, take a e-rickshaw and while returning you can walk if you want.

One of the most popular place in Hampi. The stone chariot printed in the 50rs note is located here. If you are coming by own vehicle you can drive upto the parking and from there we get the buggy vehicle for the 1km distance to the temple or else can walk. If you are visiting Hampi by public transport then the best way to reach here is to walk from Hampi bazaar area which will be a distance of 2.5km. This walk through the beautiful historical remains of Hampi including Achyutaraaya temple & Kings balance is a great experience. The distance to here from Virupaksha temple by road is 8km and autos may charge 300-400rs. You will get autos nearby the parking area. Couldn't find any buses to here. The place is very beautiful and well maintained. Ticket rate was 40rs and we can use the same ticket for other monuments in Hampi.

Hampi is a place which has a lot of monuments spread across an area of more than few square kilometres. You will always find a board in all the monuments which states where you are along with a list of more than 60 places to see or visit. Refer to the pics posted in this review and you can see a lot of the items. You need to understand that touring hampi is not a days job. It will take 3 days to see all the spectacular sites. It hurts to see so much destruction done by humans in the past. Imagine these over 650 yrs old and still standing. The natural damage is way less than damages done by humans. Every where you go there will be a cluster of things to see and you can see them one by one. All maybe listed as different places in maps but you have to understand that they are different architectural marvels but located within the vicinity of a major grand structure. Hazara Rama Temple, the name itself says that the temple has carvings of thousands of stories of Ramayana. The temple has beautiful pillars carved with stories of Ramayana. The main inside of temple has pillars of black rock whereas rest of the temple is carved out of different stone as the colour see. This is the Hazara Raama Temple in Hampi which translates to a Thousand Rama. This name comes from the description of the Ramayana in carvings all around the temple. You can easily find parking here. The lawns surrounding this are very well maintained. The temple is amazing with intricate carvings. Hope you visit this on your visit to Hampi.

The wall carvings of the temple depicts the episodes of epic Ramayana. These carvings are too beautiful and gives a glimpse into the world of Vijayanagara Empire's rich culture. Though there is a debate about the nomenclature of the temple, the inscriptions indicate that the name literally means 1000 Ramas, alluding to the depiction of the Ramayana sequences carved in great detail, on the outer walls of the temple. The carvings are arranged in three tiers all along the outer walls of the temple. Apart from the main garbha griha, there is a sheltered and pillared corridor all around, a beautiful pavilion also pillared, and a temple dedicated to the Goddess. All the pillars have carvings of divine figures. The Devi temple is covered with beautiful carvings narrating the Luv-Kush episodes of the Ramayana. The main temple also has carvings on the walls from the Bhagavata, depicting principally episodes from Sri Krishna's child hood, or of Bala Krishna. The size of the temple, the details of the carvings, amongst other aspects, lend credence to the belief that this was indeed a temple that had extensive royal patronage!!

What beautiful architecture. It has one of the most beautiful carvings on the wall. Very detailed carvings throughout the walls. This temple is near to the palace remains, but still has very few visitors. The temple has Lord Rama, which was worshipped by the Muslim community back in the days!

Superb !! This elegant temple is located inside the vijayanagara emperors palace complex and entry was only for royal families. Like in every other hampi temple we can witness great craftsmanship on this temple with Ramanaya story on temple walls. Since its inside palace complex its named as 'Hazara' meaning courtyard and definitely its not meant to represent 1000 Rama deitys.

Hemkuta hill is exactly at left side of Virupaksha Temple , you can rech there with three routes 1. From shoe stand of Virupaksha 2. Kadalekalu Ganesha ( main road ) 3. From Sasivekalu Ganesha I would suggest you to start from pathway that is near to Virupaksha Temple then by walking through pathway go to Kadalekalu Ganesha then you will reach to a gate and through main road go Sasivekalu Ganesha . Exactly at right side of Sasivekalu Ganesha you will see steps follow those steps you will reach temples and small small mandapas on hemkuta hill from where you will see sunset as well view of temple complex of Virupaksha Temple. Then you can get down through the path that I suggested first ( pathway near shoes rack of Virupaksha ) . By reading this you can understand it is a loop and it is very interesting when we discovered it , that make you all understand that whole hill is connected to each other. Both morning and evening time is best only thing is after 6.00 pm at evening they don't allow anybody there. But the best thing is you can experience peace as well as authentic traditional music from Virupaksha Temple. These words are not enough go and please visit. The Hemakunta Hill houses a temple complex, many of them dedicated to Lord Shiva. Situated in the southern side of Hampi, these temples are amongst the oldest and most ancient ones that still remain in Hampi. Many of these temples were constructed between the 9th and 14th Century, therefore even predating the famous Vijayanagara Empire

Hemakuta hill is a beautiful small hill with a lot of flat slope unlike surrounding hills which look like boulders are placed on one another. That might be the reason it's been used for building many small temples giving it a look of the complex of temples. In ancient times, it used to be fortified by stone wall. But even now it gives a grand feeling walking amongst these small temples dedicated to various deities. As these structures are too old and some of the pillars need renovation, please don't try to sit or stand on them.

Hemakuta Hill is one of the best sites in Hampi to witness the dawn and sunset. It's also easier to climb than the adjacent Matanga Hill, which is praised as the best position in the city to see the sun set. Therefore, consider seeing the sunset from Hemakuta Hill if you are having trouble getting to Matanga Hill. Vieupaksha temple can be seen from here and it is real beauty.

The place couldbe crowded during the holiday season, one need to grab the seat early. 👍 Viruparsha - To the north of the hill is the famous Veerupaksha temple. You also get a beautiful view of the temple form this hill. 👍 Easy to reach - The hill is easy to climb, an approximately trail of 15-20 mins takes you to the view point. 👍 Temples and Ganesha idol - The Sasivekalu Ganesha idol is at the entrance of this hill. There are a lot of temples on the hill, i spent approximately an hour exploring all the temples on the hill. 👌 Sunset is one of the must experience from this poit. 👎 I visited this place in January, and the place was super crowded, there was trash at several points, plastic bottles, food waste (pictures attached along with my review).

Best place to witness sunset in the evening. The modest structures are the best preserved examples of pre and early Vijayanagara period architecture. As per the locality, Lord Shiva did penance before marrying Pampa. Shiva was impressed by her prayer and dedication. On this, it rained gold on this hill. "Hema" in Sanskrit language means "Gold". The name of the hill thus connects with this legend. Also this is the place where Shiva burnt Kama (the god of lust) with his third (fire) eye. In helping Pampa to marry Shiva, Kama distracted Shiva from his penance. This attracted the wrath of Shiva and eventually killed Kama by fire. Later Rathi (goddess of passion and Kama’s wife) pleaded for the life of Kama. Shiva brought him back to life but only in character not as a physical being. Hemakuta Hill has a group of temples in the surrounding area. There are more than 35 temples on Hemakuta Hill. These temples are built in the pre-Vijayanagara and Vijayanagara periods (9th to 14th century AD). These are referred to as Jain Temples, but many of these temples are dedicated to Lord Shiva. The largest and most elaborately decorated temples are situated on the northern side of the hill and face the Virupaksha temple compound. Some of the temples located on the northern side of the hill are built in the "Trikutachala" style of architecture. In this style of architecture, three shrines are placed in a perpendicular position to each other facing a common central hall. The temples have almost plain outer walls, except for the horizontal chain of floral motifs that provide some ornamentation to the walls.

Nice site in Hampi. Has two Ganesha temples in its vicinity. Climb down to reach Virupaksha temple. You can also walk down to reach the Krishna temple. Two Ganesh temple which date back to 16th century can be visited. The Ganesha statue are carved out from a single stone and are quite majestic. Though the temple structure, like many places in Hampi, are bit of a ruin. Bit of a climb on open rocks to reach the top point of the Hill. The views from the top are nice. Ideal for getting a sunset view. Wear comfortable foorwear. Can become very hot during summer afternoon. Best to visit early evenings.

Come here to catch a spectacular sunset within the citi limits. Huge parking space 250 mts away. Huge ganesha idol at the entrance, walk past that up the huge boulders for like 300-400mts to get to the sunset point. One can find around 50-100 folks on a weeknd evening there to catch the glimpse of sunset. Local authorities are there to ensure safety. Can find lots of young couples and families gazing at the fading sun. It's indeed a great place to end your hampi trip.

Zenana Enclosure was a fortified area reserved for the royal ladies of the Vijayanagara Empire. It has several structures like the Lotus Mahal, Basement of the Queen’s Palace, Water Pavilion, Treasury Building & three Watch Towers. The major attraction is the Lotus Mahal located at the southeast corner. It is one of the most beautiful structures found among the ruins in Hampi. All other structures are in ruined condition.

The Zenana Enclosure was a fortified and secluded area reserved for the royal ladies of the Vijayanagara Empire. The Zenana Enclosure is located in the area approaching the Royal Enclosure and near the Ranga Temple. The enclosure is a sprawling compound that had tall walls surrounding it on all sides and watch towers to keep guard against any trespassers. It was constructed during the days of the Vijayanagara Empire. The highlight of the Zenana Enclosure is the Lotus Mahal or Kamal Mahal, one of the most remarkable structures in Hampi.

This is a very big place, you should explore behind the elephant stable; there is a trail goes all the way back. This pace is ticketed.

The ladies' royal enclosure in the Vijayanagara empire is called Zanana. It is a walled in area that has watchtowers. It has three watchtowers, the renowned Lotus Mahal, and the Queen's palace's remnants. The elephant stables and the mahouts building are located further down the Zanana enclosure.

Zanana is the royal enclosure for the ladies of Vijayanagara empire. It is a fortified enclosure with watch towers. It houses the famous Lotus Mahal, remains of the Queens palace, and has 3 watch towers. Further down the Zanana enclosure is the elephant stables and the mahouts building

This place was built during Vijayanagar Empire and royal ladies used to stay here. It has multiple watch towers and it is believed it was well guarded. The main attraction inside the enclosure is Lotus Mahal (Indo Islamic Architecture and looks very beautiful), Basement of Queens Palace (only basement is left) and Elephant Stables. Another contrasting belief is that if was Kings Palace because of it's proximity to Elephant Stables and Lotus Mahal was used for council meetings. The cost is 10 bucks but if you have Vijay Vitthala Complex ticket, you don't need to buy.

Zenana enclosure was a secluded area reserved for the royal women. This walled harem houses many interesting highlights. The major attraction is the Lotus Mahal located at the southeast corner. As the name suggests, you would enter into a sprawling compound with a mud road running through the middle of the compound. Probably the only thing you eyes catch soon when you are inside is the pastel colored Lotus Mahal at the far right corner. It’s a two-storied arched pavilion. The whole area was the private enclosure for the royal women folks. The Queen’s Palace (visible only the basement) is located at the middle of this area, on the left side of your path. Measuring about 46 x 29 meters, this has been the largest palace base excavated in the Hampi ruins so far. Also the three-tired elaborate base structure speaks of its importance as a palace. The super structure was made of wooden or less durable materials compared to the stone base. Along with the other royal structures, a gut during the rival incursion could have destroyed the palace. A rectangular deep tank (now empty) just at east of this probably used as a water source to the palace. Opposite to the palace base, across the central path, at the east lie the remains of a water pavilion. This is basically a decorated platform at the center of a shallow pool. This low laying spot is the first you would visit once inside the enclosure. Three watchtowers can be seen at the corners of the enclosed area. You can spot these two storied towers close to the southeast, northeast and northwest corners. These again were built in the hybrid Indo-Islamic architecture style. Being the ladies quarters, it has been said that eunuch soldiers guarded the area. It’s possible to climb to the top floor of one of these towers (if very crowded, the guards may not allow this). It’s a vantage position to survey this area and the Elephant stables behind the Zenana Enclosure. It’s Interesting the royal Treasury building too was located in this enclosure. At the northwest corner you can spot an otherwise featureless rectangular building. Some believes that it was the quarters of the eunuch guards protected this area. The structure has a simple entry at the east. A corridor runs all around inside with arches at regular intervals. The absence of windows and light inside makes it believe that this was at the best a kind of store rather than a living space. There are the traces of a number of unnamed structures and a separation walls inside the campus. The whole Zenana enclosure is encircled with a tall and broad walls made out of cut stones arranged in interesting patterns. The construction style of the wall is noteworthy.The enclosure had been strategically designed for the women folks to watch the royal ceremonial functions or the march past in privacy. However there is another school of archeologists who believe this was never used as the women’s area. The archeologists assigned the names (Zenana Enclosure, Lotus Mahal etc) arbitrarily than based on some assumptions. The closeness of the nearby structures (the elephant stables, the guards quarters etc) suggests this was not a harem. They believe the Lotus Mahal as a council room for the chief commanders rather than the women’s pavilion; the rectangular enclosed building at the northwest corner as the armory or mint or treasury rather than the quarters for the eunuch guards; and the palace belonged to the king. This is one of the few places in Hampi where visitors have to pay for the entry ticket. The ticket counter is located outside (west) the main entrance of the enclosure. Admission fee is Rs 250 (USD5). For Indian citizens the government offers a subsidy on entry ticket and the fee is Rs10. Children under the age of 15 are admitted free. Photography is allowed free of cost. The same ticket is valid (only for the same day) for entry at the Vittala Temple and the nearby Elephant Stables. Preserve the ticket.

Saasivekaalu ganesha. Saasivekaalu means musterd seeds.In ancient times there was a merchant in Hampi who sold mustard seeds and became rich, so he built this temple in happiness for the people of Hampi. Hence it is called mustard ganesha. The back of the sculpture looks like a feminine design. The snake on Ganesha's stomach One day Ganesha ate so much food that his stomach was on the verge of bursting, so he caught the snake and tied it around his stomach to prevent it from bursting.

सासीवेकल्लू गणेश... Situated within the historic confines of Hampi, this temple stands as a prominent symbol of the city's heritage. Within its sacred walls resides a remarkable testament to craftsmanship: a towering statue of Lord Ganesha, meticulously hewn from a solitary block of stone. Standing at approximately 8 feet in height, this awe-inspiring sculpture serves as a lasting tribute to महाराजा नरसिंहा २ of the विजयनगर साम्राज्य, as evidenced by the inscription adorning its base. Preferably time to visit here is from 5.00 PM to 7 PM. As हेमकुट हिल which is the famous Sun Set point after मातंगा हिल in the City of हंपी. The distance of विरूपाक्ष मंदिर is hardly 700 meters form this point.

A giant Ganesha carved from a single rock out in open; there are two giant Ganesha here, one is in open (Saasivekaalu) and the other one is inside a temple (Kadalekalu). This is in the same compound as Virupaksha temple. it is better to walk from temple to here because this place is full of amazing monuments.

The Sasivekalu Ganesha, named after Ganesha's mustard seed-shaped belly, is near the Krishna temple south-west of the Kadalekalu Ganesha. It is a 2.4 metres (7.9 ft)-high monolith that was also carved in-situ from extant rock. The Sasivekalu Ganesha is carved with his mother Parvati, in whose lap he sits. She is only visible from the back of the statue. The monument is housed inside an open-pillared mandapa; the left hand and tusk have been damaged.

This Saasivekaalu Ganesha Temple, situated on the other side of the Hemkuta Hill, is a magnificent monolithic statue surrounded by typical Hampi Style Stone Pillared structures. The pillars have lost the carvings, but the statue itself is a sight to behold nonetheless. The Ganesha Statue has a unique feature: it has a snake tied around the stomach. The story goes like this: Once Ganesha consumed so much food that his stomach was about to burst. So to prevent his stomach from bursting out, he tied the snake as a belt around it. Dont miss this feature while you are visiting this unique statue.

This is a giant statue of the Hindu deity Lord Ganesha, it is named so as the belly of the statue is shaped like a mustard seed and Sasivekalu is the local name for a mustard seed. In Hindu mythology, Lord Ganesha is notorious for his food habits. One day he ate so much of food that his tummy was almost about to burst, so he just caught a snake and tied it around his tummy as a belt to save his tummy from bursting; hence, giving the sculpture its unique design.

According to the Hindu mythology, Lord Ganesha is known for his love for food. Once Ganesha consumed a lot of food, due to which his stomach was on the verge of bursting. Finding no other option to stop his stomach from exploding, Ganesha caught hold of a snake and tied it around his stomach in order to prevent it from bursting open. This is the mythological incidence behind the existence of the snake tied around the Ganesha’s stomach, which is visible on the statue. The inscription on the statue is as old as 1500 AD and says that this statue was erected in memory of the king Narasimha II, of the Vijayanagar Empire. This temple and the statue is indeed one of the finest specimens of Indian sculptures. The Ganesha is seen in a half-lotus position with four arms. The right and left hand at the upper side holds a goad and a broken tusk. The top right hand of the statue holds a sweet (modak) the left hand is portrayed with a noose. A large mandapa is covering the statue at the top with a rough wall covering pillars around it. The archaeology department has installed a huge sitemap consisting of whereabouts of the place and history of the statue.

I visited this place while enroute to experience sunset form Hemkoota hill. It is a must-visit landmark in Hampi.
