We were told it was a trail that takes 1hr to get to the waterfall and 1 hr to get back. It is not a trail by uk understanding, it it a challenging hike. If you are fit and able and like an off road hike you will most likely love this. For the average person this is a steep decline with no facilities. The path is obvious but it is not cleared for the masses eg no smooth path, no rails. It includes a lot of rocky places that almost require bum shuffling down and anyone with any weak ankles, bad shoes etc. should not attempt this. We spent 1hr20 going down and still hadn't found the waterfall, we passed only 1 person on route, at this time we turned back knowing that we had the journey back up to make. We probably should have turned back sooner but the lure that the waterfall may be near keeps you going. The journey back was hard as it was getting hotter. We passed another couple who had given up and turned back and were suffering. We passed a man who's wife had twisted her ankle on the way back up (and they looked athletic). I don't know how she got back up as its not easily accessible for help. (He had found help, we didn't leave him to it!!) The drive up the mountain and the walk in the forest itself was beautiful and a different side of cuba, so if you like a hike then go for it. But if you're not a strong hiker please just be aware this isn't a typical tourist excursion, its hard, there arent facilities or many people (and probably no phone signal) and you need good shoes and a lot of water.

I really enjoyed this excursion. We got there with a colourful old Russian Army truck and then undertook an initially easy hike. Later, the hike became rather engaging descending vertically several hundred of meters down to the little pool and water fall (bring you swim wear for a very cool and needed refreshment in the natural pool). We even spotted the Tocororo bird which is the national symbol of Cuba.

Was a horrible walk down to the waterfall :D The signpost says 45 minutes but it took us almost an hour(we aren't very good trekkers) to arrive to the waterfall. No dangerous animals that was good :D. Going back was a total nightmare too... But it was a peaceful place with fresh and cold water which you can swim in. You choose if you want the adventure. Definitely bring water with you.

Nice hike and with the chance to take a swim in a pond at the end, near the waterfall. Although the water was freezing even in summer.

There are some haphazard exhibits- some in English- on Trinidad’s overall history but much is not translated and there is no information on the furniture and such. The views from the tower are stunning, SO much better than the views from La Popa. Note of warning, you’re still expected to pay for the bathroom which is again insane if you’ve already paid to enter the museum!!

If you can only choose one thing to do when visiting Trinidad this is it! Best swimming hole where you can swim through a waterfall and explore the caves behind it and next to it. You can clif dive or jump. You can do some bouldering on each side of the gorge. Don't believe the other reviews complaining about the 10CUC entry fee being too much, not at all! Best 10CUC you will ever spend! If you are the type of person who does nothing when exploring then just stay on Ancon beach and do your thing. This place is heaven for people who appreciate swimming, hiking and nature. You can be old and still get in the water and totally have the time of your life. This place will become one of your favourite life memories. Enjoy. (Some of the reviews about horseback riding are showing the Pilon waterfalls and not Javira. Javira is way better!)

Nice site showing remains of a sugar can and rum manufacturing site. This is the inly place that has still parts of the production process buildings ready to view. Further there are also the remains of the old slavery housing to be seen. The government want to convert this archaeological site into a museum, but a lot of work is still to be done.

If you are going to visit this place make sure sure to pay a few dollars to have the guide walk with you through the different landmarks. The history surrounding this plantation will give you better idea of the why when where how and who of Trinidad’s original founding story. We went here first before exploring the city of Trinidad, and seeing the valley gave us a better appreciation of the dynamics of the old city.
