The cathedral is very beautiful and there are many events to show a traditional dance parade. It is vey interesting. All of people rhe parade are very in passion so it makes all the persons be happy and rwally enjoy it. I thing the city is very smart and they know well how to manage the spot for the tour.

Fantastic place to look for art and have a quick lunch. We didn't realize it but there's about 30 different boutique art galleries in this one location. There's also a great burger joint at the very entrance when you walk in and a cafe toward the back. Bathrooms for super clean and everybody there was very helpful.

Fabrica la Aurora is an old textile factory which has been turned into a space for artists and galleries. There are also workshops offered if you want to do watercolor painting yourself or practice some other art Medium. We had a wonderful time walking around and talking to people.

Admission is $80MEX per person. I’d say it’s worth it. I arrived at around 10am and there was no line to enter and plenty of parking available — although I was on foot. I took the trail over the dam to the furthest boundary at the top of the property and was impressed by the quiet and the bird life. The cactus were flowering too which was a joy. Also on the water there is a multitude of bird species, waders, ducks, and swallows. The ruins are pretty cool and there’s plenty of interesting info. There’s a small cafe and gift store.

This beautiful botanical garden is a must if cactus and succulents are your favorite plants. Is a quiet place to have a walk immersed in nature with stunning views of San Miguel de Allende. I recommend getting there by walking from the city center, it's 30 minutes away with some elevation but you will have the privilege to admire some of the most beautiful colonial villas of the city.

This place is so worth it! At first you think it's going to be just some out buildings with cactus samples inside, the dirt trails seem very low end, but once you get down near the lake edge and beyond you will see the most beautiful landscape along the dam and the beautiful rocky cliffs and a giant old aqueduct from who knows how long ago, the remains of an old mill from the 1500s!!! I even saw a juvenile Black crown night heron just sitting in a tree next to the path if you didn't notice him you'd walk right by. Make sure you go all the way in!

A tranquil, expansive park just a few minutes outside of the historical center. I came in the morning and was one of the only visitors. I enjoyed a peaceful walk along the water surrounded by birds and native plants. Definitely a highlight of my time in San Miguel!

This botanical garden is almost all native plants and due to the climate, mostly cactus or similar types, however they do have a small lush area. The paths are dirt and wind through the garden. Bring something cool to drink as it can get very hot. Downside is you cannot meander on your own and have to go through with a group and a guide.

A bit out of the way from the city but very interesting place to visit if you want to see dessert plants. Plan around 2-3hrs to see everything that they have. Inside the garden it was a lot of walking and you can even cross the dam to explore the other side. If you go on the west loop you can see a gorgeous view of a canyon. One of the more interesting places to visit if you are tired of souvenir stores and restaurants. We took a taxi there which should cost about $90 but to come back we had to walk back to the main road to flag down a taxi. The second taxi driver charged us $150 to go back to the city.

Beautiful gardens, green houses, ponds with fish and tadpoles, fountains and a seemingly endless variety of high desert plants and animals...80 pesos to get in. Great gift shop, little food court, clean bathrooms, and nice little museums. Go during the cooler parts of the day. Have on walking shoes.

Photos don't do this park justice! It was the best 50 pesos I spent on my trip to San Miguel. The highlights for me were walking the trail closest to the majestic canyon and admiring the peaceful conservatory. We walked from downtown but I'd highly recommend going by car or taxi because it was steep uphill the whole way. The visitor center staff was very friendly and called a taxi for us when we left.

What an amazing place! Our visit to El Charco was a highlight of our time in San Miguel de Allende. The preserve is beautiful and the work happening here is very important. The visitor center is impressive and informative. The conservatory was gorgeous and there’s art to discover along the many trails. Helpful staff and an affordable entrance fee. Go in the morning if it is hot. And arrive by Uber or taxi and save your legs to walk around the preserve!

Do not miss the incredible mural covering the ceiling and four walls of the library bookshop. There is also an incredible mural filling a room just next to the Teatro Santa Ana and the library cafe.

Very nice public library and a very good small restaurant. The murals are worth your time. It's all free and close to the zocolo, so just go and support the local public library. You can either just donate some money or buy something at the nice restaurant.

I took one of the public guided tours, which was thorough and professional, returned for two excellent evening musical performances hosted at the library, and ate at the cafe (fruit and yogurt plate) which is a hidden gem! The library has an extensive book collection in English and Spanish and provides a number of services to the local community. An outstanding community resource!

If you travel to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, strongly consider taking a trip 20 miles outside of town and visiting this magnificent archeological site. I highly recommend taking the tour with Albert Coffee, who has been involved in excavating and researching this site since 2004. He is an absolute wealth of knowledge and very entertaining. Because these ruins are at 7000 feet of elevation and the tour is approximately two hours over hilly terrain, wear comfortable shoes and you should be in halfway decent shape.

Interesting historical site in Guanajuato state, near San Miguel de Allende. The tour guide speaks in Spanish, which we were not yet fluent in, but the museum has some English translation. There is a 15 minute bus ride, and a 20 minute uphill walk to the site, about a mile and a half round trip on foot. Plan on spending about 2-3 hours there. It may be a good idea to call ahead to find out the bus schedule. On the weekday we went, there was a two hour wait between buses, if we had arrived 5 minutes later, we would have had a two hour wait. The path is made of stones and dirt. It would be challenging if you are not in shape or not used to the altitude. There was no apparent access for people with movement disabilities, but there is a museum to visit if you are unable to make the trip with the rest of your party. There is a snack stand and restroom at the visitor center, but no facilities once you get on the bus.

La Canada de la Virgen has a wonderful museum with artifacts and the history of the site.The guides are friendly and informative. However,, the website has a handicap accessibility logo indicating that it is accessible for those with disabilities but this is only partially true! The museum is handicapped accessible with ramps but the actual archaeological site where the ruins are located is a difficult walk and impossible for a wheelchair. I have a disability that limits the distances I can walk and the terrain I can safely navigate,due to amputations. The over 1 km walk up cobblestone path to a rocky climb over a hill and down steppe slope eventually leads to a flat terrain. Thankfully my husband was with me he went ahead and took pictures but I have to say honestly it dampened the experience for me. I felt 😞, I would not have attempted the walk if I had a clearer understanding of how difficult it would be.Perhaps a difficulty level warning but definitely the web site needs to specify that it only the museum that is accessible. Also very close to San Miguel (20 minute drive) so you can combine both.

We were able to climb & descend the steps to the main site, a truly spectacular opportunity. After tour we were given chance to enjoy homemade tacos and cold drinks that were vegan and gluten free friendly💚 We were then given access to the museum. That concluded the tour with more stories of their artifacts and findings of this truly mystical site. English speaking friendly tour. A large brim hat for shade and comfortable walking shoes are a must.

Great site. You can only enter with a guide (and they drive you to the site from the parking lot). The entrance fee and tour is $70mxn and takes about 2 .5 hours Mostly walking as the drive only takes you to the site. My tour was in Spanish. They left on the hour. Some people have said they occasionally have English tours but you might want to call ahead to check out when.

This place is awesome. A few caveats: There are hoops to jump through to be allowed to see this site. The pyramid is located on private land that was donated to the federal government. They limit the amount of people that are allowed to visit at one time in order to preserve the site. You have to be escorted, either by a federal employee that works at the site, or by a tour guide. You have to take a tour bus from the visitor center to the site, and they run hourly. It is the only pyramid in Mexico you can climb! If you want to learn about this site, don’t bother going unless you get a tour guide and I highly recommend Albert Coffee’s tour - he is an archaeologist and was actually a part of the dig that excavated the site! He is very knowledgeable and it was incredible to learn about the amazing history of this area. Five stars for him. If we didn’t have a tour guide, I would give this a 1 star, because as we were finishing the tour and walking to the bus pickup site, the employee, Margarit, that was escorting the other small group that was at the site at the same time, took her group ahead of us and told the driver of the bus to leave our group behind, so our group was stranded for an hour waiting for the bus to return. It was extremely hot and sunny, and most of us had run out of water by that time since the tour was over. Extremely unprofessional, and distressing to the group that was mostly people over the age of 60.

This place was amazing. When you first enter it looks very small, but quickly learned that is was multiple floors housing a huge collection of toys, games and artwork. We have been to SMA many times but always overlooked this hidden gem. Very inexpensive, I got a reached discount and admission was 20 pesos ($1 usd).

Very interesting small museum. Descriptions were mostly in Spanish, some translated. Whoever did the displays obviously had fun and that makes sense-- they're toys! And they were beautiful and fun.

Beautiful collection of Mexican local art. Its much better to take an accompanied tour sincs you can miss a lot of info if you do not read the hanging signs. The galleries and collection is changing and they also have events. Do not miss the terrace at the very top, its hidden on the right side of the rooftop.

This is a lovely museum to walk around and would highly recommend to everyone even without children. So many old fashioned, Mexican toys to see. We had young children (1&3 yrs) and they were a little too young to understand they weren’t allowed to touch everything. There is a small area with some toys in to play with, which they loved. Very inexpensive to enter, 40 peso each. Children under 5 free. Fantastic collection.

The highlight of my visit to San Miguel de Allende! Loved strolling through and viewing all the different artists’ stalls, so many wonderful artists!

A terrific place to sit and watch the locals play basketball, sell their crafts, and enjoy the weather. It's lush greenery adds to the ambiance. You can find peaceful places to sit, or areas with activities!

A beautiful multi-use park in the heart of San Miguel. A tree-filled oasis with lots of paths, basketball courts, a small gazebo, a children's playground, restrooms, a few benches and multiple entrances. The perfect place for a city respite. A welcoming green space for some time in nature. 4.5 stars

Stunning Park. Always something going on on the weekends. Very peaceful place to just sit and relax. Very well maintained. We walk through it every day on our way to the gym. I guess the best way to call it: peaceful and relaxing. If you visit SMA, a must-see. Lot's of history. Great place for run or jog.

I visited this park the day before a friend's wedding. It's a nice size park that you can take a good long strobe but it's not too large. There are playgrounds and even a full size basketball court. The people here are friendly. It's surrounded by home so it's not too touristy. The nearest bar is about 5 minutes away by feet. There's a really large gazebo that can fit easily 50 people. We gathered here when it rained. Attaching picture is from our experience.

We parked our car on the side of the street for free near this park and this was the first area we explored while in San Miguel de Allende. The park is a great place to hang out, it’s quite pretty with a lot of people about. A cool place to check out once, and the guides do know their stuff, but it's nothing more than a botanical garden with a short circuit. You can go for small hikes but the heat can be a lot. It's meant to be on dessert plants, so it does look like it.

Not too big, not too small. Something for everyone - beautiful gardens, playgrounds, basketball, fountains, public art, and artists selling their wares. Dogs must stay on leash as there’s no grass to run on (hence one star off). Sometimes wedding parties come through - with music!

Local park offers playground for kids and place to sit. We arrived early for a dinner reservation so we came down to the park to sit and wait.

Fabulous green space! Highly recommend! Attended the 67th annual Candelaria celebration. The variety of plants in offer was amazing!

Great place, amazing view. Heidi and Bill are awesome. The rooms are beautiful. Breakfast is absolutely delicious, but you really have to be on time to take it 😉.

Didn’t stay at the casa (looks incredible) here but came for the masks tour with Bill. He is so knowledgeable and the masks are incredible. Ten out of ten! Thanks Bill for making todays visit so memorable. A must see when in San Miguel de Allende. PS make sure to prearrange a visit via the website for a tour time.

This hidden gem of a museum is really worth spending a couple of hours in, if you are interested in the indigenous cultures of Mexico. Museum consists of a very extensive collection of masks, all used ritually and superbly documented. Bill has spent the last 30 years going around indigenous communities collecting the masks and learning about the ethnology surrounding the masks and their use in ritual dance ceremonies. His wife Heidi, and art teacher and artist, has cultivated strong relationships with local artists and artisans and introduced us to some of their work. We had a wonderful time with Bill and Heidi and felt very privileged for the experience. Experiences like these are what makes San Miguel such a special place.

Enchanting B&B - Includes Museum! We had a tour about the indigenous masque performance and got a close look at a huge masque collections from over all over Mexico. Bill and Heidi were very passionate about explaining to us. We were really impressed with their vast knowledge which is full of interesting and important historical events. We also got to tour their home with beautiful rooms, realizing how incredible each and every part of B&B place is so well decorated. Most of all the entire building is a work on art in itself. We felt really welcoming and would definitely recommend everyone at most ages to take a visit here.

Absolutely wonderful stay. The entire place is filled with interesting art (some made by Heidi, the amazing host/proprietor). We had such a good time here. The breakfast is amazing, you start you day with a bountiful meal with several courses! There was even a surprise birthday cake for another guest. Don't forget to visit their mask museum, a collection of ~1000 masks from many local cultures. Truly spectacular and will definitely stay again if we return to San Miguel!

Pretty problematic museum—owner presents himself as knowledgeable but made numerous factual mistakes in his presentation, grossly over generalized differences among religious traditions in Mexico, and did a hard sell on his book. Clear why few Mexicans go. He bills the masks as authentic because they’d all been used ritually with no sense of how problematic it is to buy up religious objects from largely poor communities in Mexico and house them privately in this way.

Wonderful place - The owner is very knowledgeable and imparts this information with humor and zeal. The donations go to a good cause. No photos are allowed in the museum itself, except the area that is for sale. The building which is a B&B is remarkable and looks well worth staying in.

Casa de la Cuesta is an absolutely amazing place to stay if you plan to visit San Miguel de Allende! Owners Heidi and Bill are genuinely nice and hospitable, plus the variety of breakfasts they serve each day are unbelievably delicious and plentiful. I stayed at this peaceful B & B for an entire week during Sept. 2018 and was truly delighted with everything! Be sure to check out all the beautifully-furnished rooms, outdoor terraces, colorful courtyards and don't miss the unique Mask Museum out back.

An absolutely marvelous that definitely deserves to be a part of 2 UNESCO world heritage sites. Entry is free and there's a small gift stall. There are only really 2 main halls for you to enter so it's not that big, but it's worth visiting. Uber is available.

It was pretty neat. It probably takes longer to get to than to see, but it was worth the trip. I caught the bus from de Luz and animas in San Miguel at 9:30am and got to the Sanctuary minutes before it opened at 10. After spending about a half hour seeing the place (there was only one room to see), I only waited a couple minutes at the bus stop to head back to San Miguel. Admission was free, but you can make a donation.

This church is known as the Sistine Chapel of Mexico. The paintings on the ceiling aren’t quite as impressive as the Sistine Chapel, but they are still interesting to see. They have a store attached that sells cookies and candies made by the nuns. The most famous are called “Pedos de Monja” which translates as “Nun Farts”. We haven’t tried them yet, but I am hoping they don’t taste 😂anything like I’m imagining they do

In case there’s no guide to “overhear” let me tell you: the paintings are not “frescoes” as the ceiling was plastered years before it was painted. It has been re-painted, finished 5 years ago, so the colors are bright. The store beside it benefits the church so buy something! They have bakery items too - the granola is superb! I wish I could go back and get more!

What an impressive and intricate Baroque art architecture!

The most awe-inspiring 3D-sculptured story of Jesus, told across multiple larger-than-life statutes. This place vibrates with sacred energy.

Worth the quick 15-20 minute drive out of San Miguel. Entry is free, the halls and side halls are amazing, no wonder they call it the Sistine chapel of Mexico!

Located in the countryside you will not believe this incredible home and gallery. You will find antiques, folk art and the work of talented artists from Mexico. We recommend making an appointment before venturing there.

I'm giving it two stars because I like the Gallery, but their shipping service La Union Packing and Shipping delivered an item that I bought there to LA completely shattered. While the shipping service refunded the value of the item, they did not refund the shipping costs for an item that is no longer usable.

What a beautiful experience walking around this gallery. It is full of treasure and it highlights very well how much artisanat is present in Mexico and how talented the artisans are. It was a pleasure saying art from artists we also met during our Oaxaca trip. On top, the owner are really friendly.

After walking for 30 minutes in the sun, the gallery was closed—-not a soul in sight. Sign on the road and all internet sites show the place is open daily from 11-4. Frankly, it looked abandoned as there was no art to be seen through the windows.

Mind blowing array of high quality works of art in well organized and easy to navigate groups by artist. Many artists are from remote, poorer areas of Mexico and this venue provides "bread on the table and shoes for the children". If you're in San Miguel, this should be on your list.

We were there over a year ago. We are from Oklahoma, but avid collectors of Mexican folk art (and history) for many decades, and thought this an incredible display. Have always traveled to all parts of this wonderful country of Mexico, and supported many local artists, but I must say that this was an amazing “museum” and collection of Mexican authentic talent which is one of the worlds most varied and beautiful interpretations of local talent and centuries of such incredible religious art.

Such an extraordinary gallery with unique and interesting art. There is so much see and they are very helpful.

So happy we chose to take this experience in our trip. Super delicious. We started going to the little market to pick out all our ingredients and then returned back to the beautiful kitchen to cook our dishes. Ruben, our chef, was very friendly and answered all our questions. At the end we got to sit down and enjoy everything we made. The salmon, the rice, the mole, the tortilla soup all incredible. To top it off we made homemade Carmel sauce with mango. Definitely can’t miss this on a trip to this magical city.

Great place to learn some authentic cooking. You start with a trip to the local market to buy your fresh ingredients then back to the kitchen to cook the food. The food was delicious. Very educational. If you want to pick up some local cooking tips and flavors. Started around 11am also have a 3 pm class. Takes about 2.5 hrs. Great experience.

My granddaughter and I took the class and were very disappointed. I had taken it 3 times before and enjoyed it, but this time, we really got short changed. We made one dish and guacamole. That was the entire menu. We were served a beer, but not the margaritas we had had before and no dessert. I have recommended this to many people,but I will no longer do that. For the cost, we definitely did not get value. I’m sorry to see that this has happened. We live in San Miguel six months of the year, with many visitors. We will be doing other cooking classes!

Chef Ruben first takes you through the market to buy today’s ingredients. Then we made cochinita pibil, a red sauce, guacamole, and an escabeche of habanero and red onion. The sauces were layered with unexpected flavors and ingredients, such as nopal flower buds and puya chiles. He is truly a master. Everyone was involved in the preparation and we all loved our meal.

We spent the afternoon with Chef Rueben. Went to the mercado to gather our produce, meat and cheese. Then back to the kitchen to prepare one of the best meals! It was a typical menu but there was nothing typical about it! So incredibly tasty and unique!!!

ONE THE BEST THINGS TO DO IN SAN MIGUEL! Chef Ruben and Pilar are just outstanding. They would work on plates you request in advance. I went once, and went back for FOUR more classes. They offer very traditional mexican cooking recipes that will delight your palate.

You better not look anywhere else for a cooking class. Sazon is IT. Don't want to ruin the itenerary, but we all felt like we learned a lot, the food was delicious and we had spent a lovely evening together with the chef and sous chef- all at an extremely reasonable price point. Would have come for a 2nd night if we had time!

It is located in the center of San Miguel on the corner with the main church. The entrance is $70 MXN (price per person). It has two floors. In this museum you will be able to appreciate a lot of the history of Mexico's independence, plus you will feel like a visitor since it was the Allende house. You will find simulations of what their rooms, kitchen and other areas of the house were like. You can read in Spanish and English (but in a very limited manner). It is a must to understand how Mexico fought for its independence while learning about the day to day life of the Allende family,

This museum was ok, it felt empty and it did not have many artifacts some displays were empty.

Good history of SMA told in Spanish and English. Nice photographic exhibit and some artworks.

Amazing and historic place, whit many rooms whit a lot history, beautiful designs, recommend place if you are visiting San Miguel de Allende, you need enough time for visit all rooms and enjoy this wonderful building whit beautiful view, it's located in the middle of this Town, beside of the principal cathedral.

You can get an idea of the city’s history from this museum. We came early in the morning and enjoyed exploring the rooms by ourselves.

Great way to learn some of the history of San Miguel de Allende. We were surprised that admission was free with our residence cards.

Quiet on weekends, bustling with cultural activities and workshops during weekdays. Don't forget to go all the way to the back, to admire 1950 wall paintings and a nice view of the Cathedral.

Wonderful spot with many things going on

Fun little place we accidentally stumbled upon while hoofing it through the streets of San Miguel. We took a break and admired its murals and art while taking advantage of its many benches and garden views.

the institute is the reason san miguel exists for Americans. it was covered in the GI bill and later some famous beat artists studied here before they drank themselves to death. now it is mostly a nice place to have a wedding reception. great 1930s murals and view of the catedral. ( you have to keep walking..turn left and then right and then..boom..there it is) there is a coffee shop and a restaurant that is sometime open and some art stores also

Gorgeous courtyard area with some excellent murals and an area being set up for a concert at back left that had a nice partial view. A cafe serves food in the courtyard and while the food looked excellent I didn't eat there. Bathrooms were spotless.

It is a grand place to host a party. The staff were so attentive seeing to everyone. The venue is beautiful with spectacular views.

A must to visit, just walk around and admire the place, there's a small restaurant inside if you want to have breakfast.

Great view of the Cathedral as a backdrop. Only noteworthy comment a cellphone was lost and it was never "found". Just keep that in mind. Other than this it was a wonderful event venue and great service and very beautiful.

Worth a visit. This is part of the country house of the Canal family, who owned a lot of property in San Miguel. Great little cafe. My husband had a chicken salad stuffed avocado. I had the Chile En Nogada. Great murals. Interesting galleries. Beautiful views of the Paroquia. A lot more happening here when the world isn’t fighting covid. Pleasant courtyard to enjoy for a cod drink or breakfast or lunch.

I guess everyone might be too timid to check out Mi Casa on the back side of El Cafe. Too bad! What an oversight. Best venue for great music, drink and dinner. And what a fantastic view!

What a whimsical magical land of art, love, passion, and creativity. The Chapel of Jimmy Ray exceeds all expectations. It is hard to put into words the energy that encompasses this dreamy fantasyland. Hearing the stories firsthand from Anado's partner Richard, as he navigates you through the mystical grounds truly pulls all of the heart strings and takes you to other realms and dimensions!!

Absolutely terrific! Not to be missed if you are interested in interesting people and a life/soul commitment to art. Just excellent in every way. Go!

We visited this out of this world gallery on Monday 26 Nov 2018. A must visit when in San Miguel de Allende. Admission of US$10 or 200 peso is well worth the visit.

Wonderful tour of the Chapel of Jimmy Ray Gallery. Sadly Anado passed away in 2021. Richard is kind enough to continue the tours and give us insight into Anado's work and their amazing life together. Highly recommend.

This very state of the art decorative exterior Church of San Francisco was finished construction in 1799 and was early associated with St Anthony who was the patron of lost causes..the exterior has very elaborate design, referred to as Baroque..an associated Church-Inglesia de San Francisco is located to the west side of the connected square which has a fortress style chapel structure..

Attended an organ concert. It was fabulous! There are events from the chorus and also the organ society. I learned there's an organ festival!

It is a great Church with many great designs of the angels. Also if you are to visit this amazing church make sure you take photos. As for me I was not intelligent enough to not take many photos as I had only taken one. If you do get to visit the amazing church you should definitely take pictures of the statues there as there a great see of what had happened and what they represent.

For sure not the most famous church of San Miguel de Allende, but a very bold and massive construction from 1776, with a quite impressive Main Portal rich on very interesting Details. Good to see!
