Unfortunately the water wasn't flowing for this visit, but its very nice to see at night with the lights and water. Apparently built in 1600 a.d. - a nice park on the far side as well. A nice spot of history to add into your daily trip that doesn't take much time to visit.

A true gem!!! The Vank Church is one of the most beautiful and largest churches in the Jolfa vicinity of Esfahan. Its gilded ceiling, interior section of the dome and fine historical paintings are matchless. Internally, the walls are adorned with oil paintings that are also gilded similar to that of Iranian art. Religious paintings revealing an Italian touch can be observed here. The founder of this structure was Shah Soltan Hossain Safavid. Highly recommended!!!

It's just splendid ! It's possible to stay hours, to look at every part of the paintings inside the cathedral. It was completly unexpected for me and now, I can say that it was once of best souvenirs that I have in the city of Esfahan.

It was the first time that I visited Vank cathedral and I can say my first visit was..... Awesome!lol this place was damn big! At first I thought we'd be visiting just the cathedral but there was a museum as well!!! Omg a museum! (I haven't visited one in ages so it really felt good❤) I fell in love with the drawings inside the cathedral and of course! I'm gonna visit this place again next time when I get back to Isfahan.

Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque is one more beautiful mosque of Iran which shows marvelous Iranian art work. Interestingly, due to the sun rays, the dome changes between blue to pink. This mosque was built just for Royal family and royal females but time never remains a same. Later on, it was opened for general public. I like this mosque which is small in size but full of detailed art work. Excellent indeed!!!

Very beautiful palace, although the entrance price (for foreigners) is a bit too high for what it has to offer. The inside is small and not that impressive as the outside, but you get a nice view over the entire square.

Found this museum during my stroll in the main street of Esfahan. They have a beautiful collection of traditional instruments that are used all across Iran, and some instruments from many different countries. It is run by a group of people who are passionate about music, and it shows. You will also be enjoying a little performance by talented local kids, who also will be your guide in the museum while explaining each instrument. I had so much fun here and learned a lot. Extra ordinary! I have been there before it is going to be in new place. New place is different! Perfect. Present and introduction of music instruments are super. And at the end there was performance. Interesting point is that the one who presents play most of instruments.

My brother and I are visiting Iran for the first time, and we were looking to see some of the cultural expressions of the country. We were absolutely impressed by this place. The variety and beauty of Iranian instruments is amazing, but the best part was the live music played by 3 young boys and a girl, who were also running the place. The concert was exquisite, and these kids are truly virtuosos of classical Iranian music.

I'm excited and deeply impressed by visiting this museum! I'm professional musician, so my interest is quite understandable, but I'm sure the exposition will be enjoyable to any person. Rich collection of instruments, both Iranian and foreign as well, guide's explanations and demonstration - it's not just a museum tour, but also a communication with exponats, and the very top of the visit - performance of Iranian musicians: professional, temperamented and very authentical playing. I wish I could visit it again, to walk and stare slower to imbibe the aroma of Iranian music and to share impressions with friends!

This was one of the best places we visited in Esfahan. Be aware, it is located on the basement floor (we had a bit of difficulty finding the spot). You could enjoy a great lineup of musical instruments in and outside of Iran. There was a live performance at the end with the beautiful sounds of Tar and Santoor. We absolutely loved this mini concert. Definitely recommend visiting this museum.

It costs 500 000 rials (3.3 euro) to enter (one of the most expensive places we went to in Iran), but it was totally worth it. We had a guide for our little group, who told us a lot about their traditional instruments of various region. It was quite short though. And after all there was an amazing performance of some of these instruments. Would love to hear it again.

In Isfahan you usually get to see a lot of fascinating architecture and historical places. But this museum offers another aspect of a culture: music. It is an optimally sized museum (not too short and not too long). They have a good collection of musical instruments of different regions of the country with sound/video samples. They organize frequent tours in many different european languages (something not that common even in europe). And finally, they offer live performance.

This Mosque is very Beautiful. I have been to Isfahan many times. The King Abbas square (Imam Square now) is magnificent and worth to visit . The 33 bridge or Si o se Pol and the Khajoo bridge are very beautiful to visit at night. This city is just a 5 star. If you are visiting the Middle East to see cultural sites put Isfahan, Shiraz, Yazd, Istanbul on your list; I visited them all and they are worth it. I understand that getting a visa to enter Iran is a bit harder than Turkey.

In roofed places, if you look at the dome ceilings you'll see beautiful tile decorations with special styles that each of them is different from the others. It's a big mosque indeed. Prior to it becoming a Mosque, it is said to have been a house of worship for Zoroastrians. Responding to functional needs of the space, political ambition, religious developments, and changes in taste, over the centuries additions and modifications took place incorporating elements from the Mongols, Muzzafarids, Timurids and Safavids. Of the most note is the elaborately carved stucco mihrab commissioned in 1310 by Mongol ruler Oljaytu, located in a side prayer hall built within the western arcade. This part of a building is named Oljaytu Mosque. The exquisite stucco mihrab is adorned with dense Quranic inscriptions and floral designs. This domed interior was reserved for the use of the ruler and gives access to the main mihrab of the mosque. The cupolas and piers that form the hypostyle area between the iwans are undated and varied in style, endlessly modified with repairs, reconstructions and additions. Dome soffits (undersides) are crafted in varied geometric designs (inspect) and often include an oculus, a circular opening to the sky. Vaults, sometimes ribbed, offer lighting and ventilation to an otherwise dark space. The qibla iwan on the southern side of the mosque was vaulted with muqarnas during the 13th century. The qibla iwan is the only one flanked by two cylindrical minarets. Iwans were also added in stages under the Seljuqs, giving the mosque its current four-iwan form, a type which subsequently became prevalent in Iran and the rest of the Islamic world. Safavid intervention was largely decorative, with the addition of muqarnas, glazed tilework, and minarets flanking the south Qibla iwan. Linking the four iwans at the center is a large courtyard open to the air, which provides a tranquil space from the hustle and bustle of the city. Brick piers and columns support the roofing system and allow prayer halls to extend away from this central courtyard on each side. The roof of the mosque is a panoply of unusual but charming domes crowning its hypostyle interior.

Pictures do not do this place any justice. What an amazing site! We happened to visit on a weekday and it was decently busy. There was a bit of a queue to buy tickets and get in. It details part of history of Iran and the illustrations which accompany it are incredible. There are both English and Farsi texts to explain the images on each of the walls. The architecture is another level. Safavid times. Highly recommend a visit.

This place is a short live documentary depicting a chapter or two from the Safavid dynasty. It also hurts seeing what Qajars and probably more contemporary governments did to the paintings only because of some religious beliefs. The height of the pillars into the perspective of water, especially during the night, gives it an epic and tender view. The place was rebuilt by Shah Abbas II, and most of the mirrors are silver back rather than mercury back. Paintings depict Shah Ismaeil's battles, during one of which he suffers from a decisive defeat due to his refusal of using cannons and artillery.

Chehel Sotoun Palace meaning forty columned palace first opened in 1647. The pavilion is located at the far end of a long pool on which twenty columns are reflected to make the forty columns. inside the pavilion there are six main paintings which were painted in different times. One of the paintings that I like the most is The Karnal Battle of Nader Shah of Afsharid Dynasty that was painted in Qajar era in the year 1801.

This place is just more than amazing, the arts the place the sense, the calmness. I loved everything, unfortunately the time I went was under renewal.

Very nice palace with a nice garden and the walls and ceilings inside the palace is filled with intricate paintings depicting the history of iran. Our visit happened during the ramdan holidays, so the site was crowded with a lot of visitors.

This is an oasis in the middle of the city, in short distance to other tourist attractions. During the summer months can be unexpectedly closed due to the dust in the atmosphere. Although the garden is not out of the ordinary, the palace itself is: colorful paintings, intricate decorations, old pieces of art.

A historical place with a fantastic garden and a beautiful pool specially designed to reflect the building (hence the name 40 pillars). Parts of the building (exterior) were under reconstruction when I visited the place. The inside offers murals from about 180 years ago. Some of the paintings are about war between the Persian and the Ottoman Empire (The Battle of Chaldiran, year 1514). Other paintings are about different meetings. Like other historical sites, this palace is also adorned with miniature paintings and mirror works. A place you have to see when you are in Isfahan.

The Shah Mosque is considered the most important mosque of the Safavid era in the city of Isfahan, located on the south side of Naghsh-e Jahan Square. Shah Abbas I ordered the construction of this mosque in 1020 AH (1611 CE) during the twenty-fourth year of his reign to beautify the square. This mosque is a valuable example of Iranian tilework and stone carving art from the 11th century. One interesting feature of this mosque is the sound reflection in its central dome. The height of its grand dome from the ground is 52 meters, the height of the minarets inside it is 48 meters, and the height of the minarets on the corners of Naghsh-e Jahan Square is 42 meters. The completion of the mosque's decorations and additions took place during the reign of Shah Abbas I's successors. The building has four iwans and two schools named Nasiri and Suleimaniyeh are located in the southeast and southwest corners of the mosque's courtyard, and have rooms for student accommodation. The Shah Mosque has undergone numerous renovations due to various eras.

The building of Hasht Behesht Palace is located in the middle of a large, green and beautiful garden named after itself, Bostan Haste Behesht. Unfortunately, it was not possible to visit the palace, even at the scheduled time, it was closed without any announcement, which was sad, but this palace had beautiful architecture and beauty from the outside.

Visiting this palace is a great experience and strongly recommend for those who are interested in history and Iranian architecture. However, when I was visiting this palace, I had mixed feelings. On one side, I was glad to see an outstanding example of Iranian architecture. On the other side, I was entirely disappointed with how badly this palace have been preserved.

Earlier it was a mesmerizing palace to visit and it still is, but unfortunately they don't care about anything and historical places are no exception to this rule. People living here were so lucky to have a such unique palace located at the middle of a garden near the most important part of the city at that time with all the facilities that were required. Have walk around here; it takes 6 minutes but worth it, no doubt.

Together with the bridges and the churches, this is one of the free attractions of Isfahan. And maybe just because of this, the palace is not well kept and you cannot actually enter it, as you can see from the pictures. The park around it is nice, with many flowers and trees.

This is a really cool place with nice ceiling. The designs and paintings are masterpiece. When I went there for the first time, it was at night and was close, but this time I went during the day. I was surprised by everything that I saw there. Most part of the designs and paintings were gone, but you can imagine how wonderful and majestic was at first. I recommend you to visit this place. The hill, which rises about 210 meters above the surrounding plain, was previously called Maras or Marabin after a village near there, and it is by that name that the site is referred to by Arab historians. One part of the complex, on the southern flank of the hill, are the remains of a citadel of about twenty buildings (or rooms within buildings), many of which—particularly those in the lower half of cluster—are however only evident as foundation traces. Several buildings in the cluster have a classic chartaq "four arch" floor-plan, characteristic of Zoroastrian fire-temples of the 3rd century onwards and that are the actual atashgahs that housed sacred fires. A tentative identification of the purpose of the ruins was first made in 1937 by Andre Godard, but it was not until 1960, when architect Maxine Siroux made the first drawings, that the site could be properly studied. Ateshgah of Isfahan or Mount of Ateshgah is one of the historical monuments of Isfahan and Khomeini Shahr (Marbin block) and one of the relics of ancient Iran. This collection has an ancient historical background and has been used in various times. The current Mount Atashgah has been a sacred place and burial place of the Prophet's heirs, who lived around the sixth century BC according to Tabari. It also has a secret tunnel to Khomeini's ancient city and was considered one of the important centers for keeping treasures during the invasion of Iran by Alexander the Great.

The Zoroastrian Fire Temple sit is located on top of Atashgah mount, it was used during the Sassanid Era. So, this is ancient place which is unfortunately not in good condition. For common people, it may not be a attraction but for history lovers, it is an important place to be visited. As, temple is on top of mountain so climbing involves. On the top, you can have a birds eye view around.

the only cylindrical fire temple remained from long time ago. on top of mountain and it is very magnificent if you arrive there sunset or sunrise. maybe it will take up to two hours of your time if you climb smoothly. in some references it has been disclosed that the fire temple was in function until late Safavid dynasty in early 18 century.

This places has nothing to visit, a small area and a building inside which you can't go to the up floor only can look it from the ground, there was a man which wanted a bit money to explain everything about this place, it was a kinda vibrant menirrate in some special cases I think it was vibrating but now it's not vibrant. Only a historical place. The entry for local was 5k toman for foreigners 50k or 100k toman I don't really remember 1 or 2 dollars. On the southern portal there is an inscription as follows: Pray for Khaje Petros, who was a good man, in the presence of God. He built this church by his own personal expenditure for the immortality of his name and his father's name (Vali Jan) and his mother's name (Shoushan) and his family's name in 1077 (in the Armenian calendar which is 1627 in the Gregorian calendar).
