Another must visit place in Amman. It has historical significance for 3 major religions. Visit this place with a guide, as the scriptures there are limited. There are many tourists here. So do take pictures and interact with them. The ticket can be covered in Jordan Pass, so do get it. They have ample parking.

This is a definite stop along the tourist route in Jordan. Allegedly where Moses looked out and saw the promised land. The view is very nice and there is a nice breeze. The church at the top has great mosaics to see. The entrance fee is 3 Jordanian dinars. Cash only. Jordan pass is not accepted. If you wait for the tourist bus to leave, you can take pictures without people in them.

If you are in Jordan this is another must stop. You will also find the best gifts here for a great price.

Inside the museum there is no much about Moses or I missed it because I am not really interested in it. But the real history of this place is still interesting.

I liked it here because of the significance of how Moses came here to look over the promised land that he was shown from this spot. I didn't like the commercial side of it however. The views are breathtaking and good to see. Ignore the commercial element and you'll enjoy it. Parking is available outside the entrance.

As I stood atop Mt Nebo I really wished Moses had the same experience as I thousands of years ago. Apparently he could see all the lands “that god gave his people” for hundreds of Kilometers. If the weather was not so clear perhaps middle eastern history would be radically different today! On an overcast and hazy day you barely see the road you drove up on. We approached from river Jordan direction and the road is a spectacular drive of crazy gradients and hairpin bends.

There's not much to see here, but it's definitely a good historical place to visit. Mount where Moses shows promised land to his people and his burial place as well.

One of the best historical and biblical sites to visit in Amman. The place is very well maintained and very clean. The mosaic floor in the church is well preserved and a must see.

Beautiful church with large ancient mosaic map on the floor. With a bit of sleuthing you can figure out some of the places on the map, or you can use the legend outside. You need a ticket to enter as a tourist (they can tell who is and who isn't). You get the ticket at the gift shop. The site held our interest for longer than we expected, not only by the mosaic but also by the lovely, more recent paintings coverng the walls. No dedicated parking. We parked on a nearby street. There are plenty of inexpensive restaurants surrounding this area.

It's a beautiful church located in the heart of Madaba. The mosaic map inside the church is absolutely beautiful. Don't hesitate to visit the gift and mosaic shops around the place. It's worth it. I recommend visiting this place and walk around this area.

A Greek Orthodox Church in the city of Mudaba famous for its mosaic floor discovered in the 6th century. The mosaic map on the floor was rediscovered in 1896 and the church built on top of it. Besides being famous for the oldest map in the region, the church walls are decorated with biblical murals and paintings giving the building a beautiful rustic feel. Barely 30-40 mins outside Amman, there are a number of souvenir shops and cafes around the church. Also visit the visitor center for a full map of the King’s highway.

This church is still used for worship so please take the visiting hours into consideration. Small and nice mosaic work on the walls and columns (mainly modern panels and icons). Perhaps the most impressive feature is the mosaic floor with a medieval map of the Levant at the time of the Crusades. Entry is not included with the Jordan Pass.

A beautiful church with nice architectural and biblical importance. But i will recommend going with the help of a guide so that u get to know the meaning of the map and its importance. To this day, it represents the oldest map of Palestine in existence and provides many historical insights into the region Crafted in AD 560, the map has 157 captions (in Greek) depicting all the major biblical sites of the Middle East, from Egypt to Palestine. It was originally around 15 m to 25 m long and 6 m wide, and once contained more than two million pieces. Although much of the mosaic has been lost, enough remains to sense the complexity of the whole. Its importance can be gauged by the fact that a separate enclosure has been built. Here a wall mounted copy of the map giving all the land marks in couple of languages. Batched are allowed here by turn. Once inside guides explain the map. Actual map is on the floor inside the Church. So far as I was concerned I was most impressed the with the church itself. It was very colorful with hundreds of colorful mosaics everywhere on the wall, on pillars and all over the church. Unlike other churches where it is dark and atmosphere sober, here it was colorful and appeared vibrant with life . Enjoyed the colorful St George's Greek Orthodox Church at Madaba.

This is the church in which famous Madaba map is located which attracts tourists to Madaba. This is an important Christian pilgrim site in Jordan. It's a 19th century Greek Orthodox Church constructed over a Byzantine church. It was discovered in 1884 during excavation to find a mosaic map measuring 25 meter long and 6 meter wide, showing all Christian holy sites in middle east. It is said that this mosaic map was made in 560 AD. Some portuons of original map were destroyed during it was burried or during excavation. But most of it is preserved. On the map, the north is on left side. Jerusalem is placed in the middle. It is believed that some Christian sites known today to the world, were exacavated after discovery of Madaba map as details of their locations were approximated from this Madaba map. The church itself is also beautifully decorated. In courtyard of the church, in souvenir shop, a more clear version of Madaba mosaic map is out on wall which is more understandable.

Stunning place to visit! You need to climb down a few rocks but it’s not a hard walk down but once you get down, the view is stunning! There’s plenty of mud so you can use that free of charge and it’s great for your skin. The amazing part is that you can float on the Dead Sea due to its high salt content so definitely give this a try as you won’t regret it. You can also find big blocks of salt everywhere which is precious and makes a lovely gift.

Absolutely a nice place to visit , being on the lowest point of earth and plotting in water is unique experience In July / Aug the weather is hot around 41 degrees which have to be Mindful. Better to choose some other period for better experience It’s lovely places, no doubt

One of the nicest places to be, the weather there its warm almost all year around. Very good for activities from personal to family activities. A lot of sports events, rally, international cycling events and so on. Hiking there is one of the best things you can do with so much canyons having running water, some warm and some cold runny water which is fabulous.

It was a completely different experience. We were literally not sinking in the sea. Take care that the water does not enter in your eyes, else it will burn a looot. The mud was so slippery and soft. It is rich in salt and minerals and has medicinal values.

At the end of April, it was a little bit unpleasant at 38 degrees celsius and a water temperature of 28 degrees. But hey, this is a Dead Sea, after all. Lowest point in Earth with approximately -400 meters elevation bellow sea level.

To be honest I have been disappointed! People keep mentioning that this place is the best, unique, one of a kind but frankly speaking it is one time visit place not to be reoccurred. I guess the only way to have some good time is staying at the 5star hotel around. I just visited dead sea by a private car. Without booking any hotel or paying for a lunch (at least 25 Jordanian Dinar) you cannot experience anything there. it was worst experience ever in my life.

As someone has already posted, that's one off the bucket list. I hadn't realised how far down you need to go to get to it - literally down, and down. My ears and sinuses were still recovering from the lack of pressure a day after. Good experience though floating whether you want to or not. Then trying to put your feet down when you want to come out is a challenge. The water has a very oily thick consistency and it's good that you can shower off after getting out.

We stayed at the Marriott Dead Sea Resort in Jordan, and we were amazed at the altitude of the sea. Swimming was no problem, as the high level of salt kept the people floating. Dead Sea mud and water was the ultimate treatment to revitalise yourself.

Is it a lake? Or sea surrounded by land? Who cares! This is a nice place to visit because of its features. Due to its high salt content, one can easily float. One can also see crystalline salt in the waters.

The water is incredibly buoyant. You can just float without swimming which is unique! If you have any cuts, such as from shaving, they will really hurt due to the salt in the Dead Sea. There is also a slight current in the water, so you will slowly float across the "sea"!

Dead Sea - true to its name, no flora and fauna can live here. This place is very interesting, the water here is extremely salty so we will float on the water but don't go too far from shore.

Pretty nice church at the baptism site of Jordan river.

It is now more than 10 years ago since I visited here. I was invited to be godmother to a person whose lifelong wish was to be baptised in the river Jordan. What a wonderful experience to witness and I so surprised at how narrow the river is between both countries. The church glitters in the desert sunshine from afar and is beautiful.

This little church is approximately 75 feet east of Jordan River at point where currently Christians go to be baptized in Jordan River by bishop. Exactly on the other side of River is the spot in Israel where people come from that side for same purpose but on other side of the river. The river here is only 20-30 feet wide so not only people on each side of river can see each other but talk to each other as well and photograph each other with zoom. This is the closest one can go to Israel without entering into it. There was a group of Israeli scherl children visiting here with a rabi. They asked us from where we are snd on kur response, shouted slogans in favour of our country. That was a pleasant surprize for us. We waived towards them and requested for their pics which they happily agreed to. Even the tourists on that side and armed person on duty (a female) were nice to us and happy to e photographed.

Must see! Rich in explanations and layers of the different cultures that overlapped in the course of history. The mosaic map is a superb sight

Worthy park to visit, those mosaic pavements are over 2000 years old~ U can tip the tickets cashier if he had time to guide you around and give nice explanation.

Fascinating site to visit to see the oldest and most exquisite tiles in Jordan. The archaeological park comprises part of a Roman road, intricate Byzantine mosaics and Ottoman-era buildings. Intricate and beautiful, a worthwhile visit to appreciate the history of Roman influence in Jordan

only walked inside briefly. with tour, no time to visit.

Very interesting place.. Well preserved mosaic back to ancient times.. Entrance fees are cheap 0.25 JOD for Jordanians and 3 JOD for tourists. And the ticket allow you entering 4 locations with no extra fees. In my opinion it needs more graphical information and story board like to connect to that era.

A stop along the tourist trail. There are several mosaics on the floor and an ancient Roman road outside. The mosaics are nice to see if you enjoy this type of ancient ruin. There are several tourist shops around the area to buy souvenirs or to get something to eat or drink.

This site is a little southeast of the city of Madaba, Jordan and still has much excavation left to be done but what you can see is impressive. St. Stephan's church has been covered by a metal structure to protect the surviving mosaics inside. Beautiful.

Wonderful mosaics!!! It's really easy to get to from the main highway (watch for speed bumps) and is a really cool site. The giant mosaic floors steal the show.

I did enjoy this visit; I thoroughly love visiting Unesco sites, specially historical ones. But there are much more better sites around that are not World Heritage and it is not the easiest place to walk around under the extreme Jordanian heat. Site is pretty extensive, but the ruins are not that impressive. Most beautiful area is the church with its mosaics. You will be mostly alone, adding value to the experience.

It's a very large area with very few tourists. Mostly ruins but some are still standing tall. Mosaic are housed in special place. Didn't see all area due to extreme heat. Would be nice if they provide buggy.

Neglected place. Needs lots of work. Tourist centre seemed more important than preserving ancient mosaics. You can literally walk on some of the mosaics.

The main mosaics here are some of the greatest Byzantine mosaics anywhere. I particularly love the depictions of cities, such as Jerusalem, Gaza and Madaba. The overall site rewards patience and imagination.

Must visit historical site. Wish they had more information on each construction. I could not find a book that explained everything there is to see. If you want to visit the whole site you need to spend a full day and look for a professional guide that really knows about this important site.

Beautiful mozaics on the floor of byzantine church. The best one what we have seen in Jordan.

One of UNESCO word heritage protected site. If you are a fun of archeology, this a must see. You can almost imagine how the civilation back in the 5th century by seeing the ruins. The mosaic floor at St Stephen Church is noteworthy.

A very important site. There 16 churches ruins with one almost intact mosaic floor from the 7th century. This is a massive site that unfortunately not excavated. Better visit in spring or when the weather is a bit mild.

Nice big open space church, but nothing ornate or truly pretty to look at. The mosaics are gigantic but dirty, thick with dust, and almost completely grey, zero color. The keeper said he's not allowed to wash them, but then he washed a small piece for us, and wow, out come the high colors of the tile. Hint, if we pay, he'll wash more. Frustrating to visit and miss the vibrancy of the tiles, in their actual glory. Not the dusty, powder gray dull look they have now.

Father Manfredi discovered the church, and he read the dedication writing through which he determined the name of Bishop Sergius, the name of the church and the date of its construction. It is a building consisting of three galleries and two small churches on the north side. The mosaic floor inside the church preserves the product of what was done by the mosaic artist Salman from Hasban, whose name is located in the middle circle in the church’s nave, which represents the identification of the sea represented in the form of a woman emerging from the water among fish and marine animals The current building that covers the church was designed and executed by architect Ammar Khamash. The building was restored in 1993 with the support of the Jordanian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the American Center for Oriental Research.

Not crowded as it is the end of the tourist trail and it is far from the other tourist attractions. Beautiful mosaics and Jordan Pass friendly.

It's a small hall but with some beautiful mosaics, some of which are cordoned off, so you can't take a closer look. Worth it if you have the Jordan Pass.

So it would seem that if you decline the offer of a tour guide (for which you have to pay) then you are treated like some kind of criminal. I paid for entry into the church and walked up on the ramps to have a look at the mosaics. There is a section which is cordoned off with red and white tape, so I made sure to avoid those areas. I was just about to leave when the guy from the ticket office walked in to the church and started adjusting the tapes, he then looked at me and shouted that I’m not allowed to walk there and that they have CCTV and can see what I’m doing. I was pretty annoyed that I’d been accused of something I didn’t, so I shouted back at him that I hadn’t walked in that part. He obviously wasn’t expecting a lone woman to retaliate - at which point he scarpered. What makes his false accusations all the worse, is that I’ve read several reviews clearly stating that when visitors have paid for a “guide” that they’ve been allowed to enter the cordoned off areas and trample all over these historic mosaics! Shameful behaviour from people whom seem to favour those who are willing to line their pockets.

Liked the church and seeing the mosaics. Disappointed with the guide who was very derogatory with regard to the tip (which would have been well above a decent wage per hour in my home country). If he thought that his services were worth more, I didn't, he should have been upfront and said how much the charge was for showing us around, then we could have decided where to have the guided tour or not. An unsavoury end to a good visit. This didn't happen anywhere else during any of our visits throughout Jordan.

unsure if it’s included in the Jordan Pass, seems to be in January but was set to pay JOD1 entry. i was alone when I visited and the guide took me through all the roped off areas to get a view of the incredible mosaics - the floor is the largest in Madaba. Just like everywhere else, beautiful and incredible!

If you are in Madaba there is few to see but you can see everything which is in the walking distance from the city centre .The Apostle Church is also one of it , the mosaic floor is beautifully preserved .Its seems amazing that the mosaic being 1000 years old are so nice & well preserved

A beautiful historical place to visit

Nice staff and listening, beautiful mosaics although some are inaccessible because opposite of the official view. Quick visit to make but pleasant! I recommend (price 3JOD for 3 different museum in Madaba).

Must see! Rich in explanations and layers of the different cultures that overlapped in the course of history. The mosaic map is a superb sight

We try to keep walking fast visits here because it's almost closed (about time), and we also have last day to visit in Jordan and the officer is really lovely to let us walking even last minute, if you are already have Jordan pass then welcome

Worthy park to visit, those mosaic pavements are over 2000 years old~ U can tip the tickets cashier if he had time to guide you around and give nice explanation.

Very interesting place.. Well preserved mosaic back to ancient times.. Entrance fees are cheap 0.25 JOD for Jordanians and 3 JOD for tourists. And the ticket allow you entering 4 locations with no extra fees. In my opinion it needs more graphical information and story board like to connect to that era.

A stop along the tourist trail. There are several mosaics on the floor and an ancient Roman road outside. The mosaics are nice to see if you enjoy this type of ancient ruin. There are several tourist shops around the area to buy souvenirs or to get something to eat or drink.

Beautiful and well persevered Bizantine Mosaics. Lots of churches showing how religion has evolved through the centuries.

The wax figures were absolutely amazing and terrific! Being here was very historical and educational. Learning about the past and how things were back then. Souvenirs available but a bit pricey.

Beautiful museum starting with religious history with beautiful exhibitions from Noa's time, to Jesus and all other biblical stories. It also displays beautiful and authentic scenes of Jordanian, Palestenian and generally Levantian lofe: souq, shops, old coffee houses, tailors etc. I highly recommend a visit and enjoying the restaurant, cafeteria and the gift shop

It’s well worth a visit here. The mosaic artwork is astounding. You can get shown how they make the pieces of art and how they create the works of art. The shop is very busy and yet well laid out allowing you to stroll and look throughout the treasures. We were given traditional tea while fossicking which was nice.

This is a good substitute for the people who can not walk Petra. The artifacts are Beautiful with story boards filled with History of Petra and the people who once lived there in the Hidden City!
