Listen it's mostly filled with typical Carnival games and attractions. It does however offer a great view of the city, and the hill coaster is pretty good. Nice place for gifts too and to spend a small day having fun.

We went up by car although there is a cable car as well. Kok-Tobe Hill is a popular tourist attraction in Almaty. It’s a small mountain —200 meters over Almaty offering superb views over the city and surrounding mountains. Well worth the effort.

Beautiful sunset and night views of Almaty city. In Oct 2023 first week, Cable car was closed for maintenance for a few days. Vans were carrying people to the top as an alternative on the paid basis only.

Kok Tobe, Almaty. Its definitely worth it taking the cable car located nearby the metro station Abay to Kok Tobe. On a beautiful day you can get different views, walk around the park there, ride with the Ferries wheel, children can play on different small attractions and finally you can have a treat in the restaurant there. A ride uphill and back for a single person was 2000.- Tenge today.

Very nice place to go evening with family and chill.

The weather was sprinkling when we arrive at the jump off. It was nearly sunset when ride the cable car. It was cold and so foggy. The cable car ride was so smooth and we like it very much! On the top, we are so happy to roam around as there are alot of activities you can do. There is a mini zoo with exotic animals, there are arcades, restaurants, souvenir shops and what we really enjoyed was the Beatles Monument - it was the highlight of the Kok Tobe! We sing, dance and took a lot of pictures! A nice and must visit place when to travel to Kazakhstan!

Kok tobe is like an amusement park. You can take a gondola to go up and it will cost you 5000 tenge back and forth. There are ferris wheels, statues and a little zoo. There are also restaurants and shops selling souvenirs.

Kok Tobe cable car ride is located in the city of Almaty. 15min walk from DOSTYK Plaza. There is no rush at the counter and 5000T is the cost per person for the return journey. I recommend buying a return ticket for visitors otherwise each single trip will cost 3000T p/p. The Alpine skiing coaster (price chart is attached with Picture and Traditional Costume photography with falcon will cost 2000T per photo.

Very beautiful place with a Ariel view of Almaty city … we can use ropeway to go to the top.. it has some fun entertainment items like giant wheel, roller coaster etc.. we went during snow fall and was beautiful at night .. there are some souvenir shops too

On the top of hill. Lovely view of cityline. You can go with gandola too. Nice for short visit and fresh air and natural views. A little zoo is there too.

This Cathedral wad amazing with it architecture and the spritual serenity. This place is situated in a quite environment and provides you with a meditative space. The time we visited this place it was almost empty. The staff here are very friendly and you can use Google translate to communicate with them.

Unique Cathedral. It's very calm to see with colorful vibrant colours. Inside was amazing but we not allowed to take pictures. Everything is gold inside the Cathedral and you will see it's very holy religious. You can catch every detail of the made man structure and carvings on the wall, done, window, door and etc. Surrounded with trees and pedestrian walk, garden and very near to other tourist visiting places. From here you can walk around and will see historical places. This is good starting point is you are the first timer tourist. Explore more places maybe about 1-3 hours nearest. It's located on the Google maps. Many coffee shops around this area and restaurants. Walkable with wider pedestrian and good traffic light. Buses everywhere and YANDEX GO more easy for you in Kazakhstan but NEVER use Taxi they will charged you 10x.

Beautiful place outside and inside, it is one of an oldest wood built cathedrals. So many details and has two old fireplaces, it’s so rare. Very quiet and so spiritual. It is hard to explain emotions, just visit it and you will see.

The experience was so different ...we witnessed a wedding ceremony which was very different from what we usually see in movies ...it was amazing ... The place is very peaceful and very colourful. Apparently , this is the tallest wooden Orthodox Christian cathedral in the world. It's an impressive structure. Beautiful architecture. The inside has a pious serenity that one would usually associate specifically with an Orthodox church.

This is truly a stunning place which is also know as Zenkov Cathedral. It a Russian Orthodox cathedral located in Panfilov Park. We were there when the snow was falling making the atmosphere even better. The reasion why I say the Cathedral is stunning is the that it is made out of wood but without nails. Its height is 56 meters tall, and is claimed to be the second tallest wooden church in the world. It a beautiful place to see and walk around.

Just note that I am talking from a non-Christianpoint of view!. Zenkov is an orthodox cathedral with history. People enter with high respect to say their prayers. It is open to public though. It's full of magnificient paintings and statues. Certainly give it a try. It's located in the middle of a huge spectacular park. You can plan to see other places around the park as well on the same visit.

It's one the most unique churches in the world with a wooden structure. The interior is covered in golden colour and images from the bible. The church is active and there are sessions held in regularly. The entrance is free of charge.

I started my Kazakhstan city tour from 28 Panfilov Guardsmen Park which is in the middle of Almaty. The park is free to visit at any time of the day. These heroes protected Moscow during World War II, showing Kazakhstan's strong spirit. If you walk a little further you will spot the Zenkov Cathedral with bright yellow and fancy details. It's a colorful masterpiece made of wood. This is one of the most beautiful Orthodox churches I’ve ever seen and probably the prettiest building you can find in Almaty! What’s even more fascinating is the fact that it was built with no nails and is the second tallest wooden building in the world, with a height of 56 meters! The cathedral was finished in 1907 and recently it went through a renovation process to shine more than ever. Best time to come is during evening hours. You will find few activities that kids may love. They also have plenty of seats for you to sit and have some time for yourself and to breathe in the fresh air.

I had a solo travel in Almaty last March 3-7 and one of the best places I've been is Anscesion Cathedral. I only used my tripod to take my pictures and a local photographer took a picture of me as well. Nothing is free of course 😅 However, they were very professional in taking pictures. PS: The place is good for a walk and is also recommended for tourists like me 💛

Must to visit place. But ice-skates on downstairs is less comfortable than on upstairs, and more expensive. They have storage room on downstairs and it's about 600tenge. Skates 2500, entrance about 2000-3000 tenge.

The whole arena is so good. It took us some time to enter there as I Went there after new year. We rented the skating shoes from there and they also had a space where you could store your personal belongings. We went there at night and it was so good. It's between the mountains so views are always good. They have a Rafaelo house in the middle where you can get tea and chocolate for free. Overall a beautiful place to do ice skating.

Growing up from a 2 season country, Medeo is a must to visit when in Almaty. Learning or trying how to skate is also a very good experience to learn eapecially that this is not expensive experience after all. The place is also big so there's less chance that you can hurt someone by bumping into them. It is very accessible by bus for 150tenge. You should not miss this out.

Great place to skate highly recommend renting skates elsewhere as the skates at medeu aren't great. And there is normally long line. During the morning there was long line waited about 20-30 minutes. Highly recommend getting your tickets ahead of time to avoid the wait.

Great place and affordable prices. But keep in mind that you have to pay for entrance AND pay for ice skates rent separately. During covid-19 pandemic you have to buy tickets online ONLY. And one session lasts for only 3 hours.

I know Medeu from my childhood. This place was rennovated and now its a beatiful skating (winter) / roller skating (summer) huge stadium. However its not only limited to the stadium. Its a beautiful place in the mountain. Its located few hundred meters to the highest damb in the region. Its a start of multiple hiking / trekking routes across Almaty mountains. Its few hundred meters above the lift to the mountains (Shimbulak). Its historical place, must see if you visit Almaty.

This ice ring has incredible atmosphere for so many years already, shares so many stories from generation to generation. These kind of places needs to be cherished and protected. My mom couldn’t skate at all, you can rent a special equipment to help you get moving. It is amazing, she was skating two hours later on her own and was so happy. The air, people skating around have so much happiness and joy in their moves and actions. This is a happy place which gives you energy and motivation.

Sports complex in one of the high altitude located about 1691 m above the sea level. Ice rink is the best part. Above which is Shamboolak ski resort. Going up by a eco taxi or rope way is a nice experience to be.

Medeо. Must visit place in Almaty. In winter it is interesting to come to Medeo late evening time. At 9-12 p.m. No traffic in city, few people on Medeo and real winter fairytale in the mountains. Yesterday, on January 5th I visited it by 1 a.m. It was raining in the city (last photo) but snowing in the mountains and it was amazing. Staircase to the dam was fully lit and covered with fresh snow. I was the first one to stand on it that day. Please note, staircase is almost 1000 steps. From parking lot it is about 1 kilometer walking uphill. Hiking shoes with good grip needed. It can be slippery. There are some very interesting not widely known places around Medeo where you will be almost alone. I can show you these locations. Go with me to Medeo/Shymbulak tour.

Things need to be more organized. The place is neat and well maintained but People gotta pay attention more to details and organization skills. Price is relatively cheap The atmosphere is good. I wish there is som people hired to teach how to ski. I waited about an hour to enter the place. People broke the line and entered from outside the queue. Over all it’s nice place but not perfect

Medeu is my favourite place in Almaty. Going and hiking there is one of my hobbies. Recommend you to going up the steps and walking a little further and having breakfast in the “Gorelnik” while admiring the beautiful view of nature. If you don’t wanna go up with stairs you can walk along the path or by a cable cars. There are usually a lot of people. Because of that it is better to go in the morning.

Loved walking the stairs up to the view point! Hiked down the trails back to the base and took the bus home. We didn't go to the ski area. Take bus number 12 to the terminal station. It ends, you get off! Sun is strong up there, be ready.

Tourist Cafe near Medeu is good to enjoy coffee with waterstream view. Easy to access from Almaty with Bus no.12 or by Cab. Many hikes starts from Medeu. People mostly do visit stairs top to capture snow capped mountains views of Shymbulak . There is option of visiting Shymbulak by cable car starts from Medeu.

The road to the lake is closed, but you can hike up there from the gate. It takes about 3 hrs (10 km mostly uphill). Or there are a few cars there asked for 30,000 tenge to drive you up. Please note it will be a long unpleasant walk (1hr min) between the public bus stop (no.28 or 211) and the gate, there is a big construction site with no walking path with lots of cars driving around you. It's better to take a share taxi (500 tenge pp) to get to the gate.

Wonderful place! No fees for entrance. About 1 hour by car from Almaty. Not possible to walk around lake. Refreshments around. Parking place is not large. Definitely worth to see. When Security goes for lunch, it is possible to come closer to the lake. It is not possible to drink there the water from lake. We went higher to the hill on the road and there were maybe even more beautiful views to the lake. We had a taxi from Almaty, rented it by hours and had the car with the driver for about 5-6 hours. In total we paid about 25 euros. I think it was better decision after all than renting a car from a rental.

As of July, the road is closed , you have to walk 10 km to the lake, although the road condition was perfect, there is no reason to close the road

We visited May 2023 - you weren’t allowed to hike up to the lake because of rock fall. Only taxis were allowed past the police check point but they were charging 30,000 tenge for a round trip which seemed very expensive. Instead we got a map from the visitor centre and hiked up the old Japanese road which was lovely. We didn’t do the full route just 90 mins out and then turned back. The visitor centre is really good with a lovely cafe and friendly staff who speak good English

Beautiful lake close to the city. It is an easy drive from city center right to the lake itself. Unfortunately, the size of the lake has shrunk when we went there. Nature is beautiful and the air is clean and fresh compared to polluted city. From the lake went hiking to Big Almaty Peak where there is snow even in hot summer days.

After a nice hiking trip you are greeted with a fantastic view over the Big Lake.

The Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen (Kazakh: 28 гвардияшы-панфиловшылар саябағы) is an urban park located in east-central Almaty in the area surrounding the Ascension Cathedral. It is dedicated to and named after the Panfilov heroes which were the 28 soldiers of an Alma-Ata Infantry unit who allegedly died while defending Moscow from the German invasion during the Second World War. The group took its name from Ivan Panfilov, the General commanding the 316th division which, in spite of heavy casualties, believed at that time managed to significantly delay the Germans advance to Moscow, thus buying the time for the defenders of the city. An eternal flame commemorating the fallen of the World War II and the Eastern Front burns in front of the giant black monument of soldiers from all 15 Soviet republics.

This is a nice park for the tourists and for the foreigners as well and this park has a cathedral in it and this park is also adequate for the love birds.

Amazing place to visit. I went into a church for the first time in my life and it was very beautiful from the inside. The place was a bit crowded but not too much. The people were super nice. I met few people there while I was feeding the birds near the church they were so nice to me even though I wasn't from their county! I'm so happy and I had a good experience in general.

This is an amazing park, which has ascension cathedral at the centre. There was a very welcoming Christmas market with coffee, snacks, and an ice rink. There are lots of pigeons and you can buy their food and offer them. The pigeons throng around you. The place has an amazing vibe. The weather was cold, we had coffee and it felt blissful. The park also has a museum of music on the other side. Overall an amazing place.

Local park near the Arbat and Zhibek Zholy Metro Station. Has a beautiful church in the middle and big statue of Panfilov heroes.

Favorite park in Almaty. To sit, relax and watch adults and kids feed the pigeons.. it reminds me of pigeon square in Sarajevo, but much bigger. Overlooking is the cathedral which is stunningly beautiful. In the park there are also public toilets which is convenient.

It reminds me a lot of the Lermontov Theater. The production itself was excellent, but I must say that the sound and scenery were a big let down. It was hard to hear. The worst thing is that all the singing was under plywood. The theater itself works well. There are ramps and even an alarm for the hearing impaired. The staff is polite. I will visit. Сама постановка отлично поставленная, но должен сказать что звук и декорации сильно подкачали. Было плохо слышно. Самое ужасное что пения все были под фанеру. Сам театр работает хорошо. Есть пандусы и даже сигнализатор для слабослышащих. Персонал вежливый. Буду посещать.

Beautiful nature, beautiful emotions and impressions.

Beautiful park, lots of shade and pretty trees in the fall. We walked around the lake, ate snacks and enjoyed nature. Our kids liked the rope course in the trees, very safe and fun for ages 7-15 or so (there are height requirements.) Definitely recommend. We went there after spending a couple of hours in the zoo, it was perfect.

Amazing variety of activities and beautiful landscaping. You could spend a whole day here and never get bored!

Beautiful huge garden having multiple things for kids including dinosaur park, inverted house, lake and even games. The park is well connected to the city with trams.

The park is huge. I tried the boats with my family it's very cheap too. There's a small shops where they sell ice-cream, candy and toys. You can take pictures with animals such as cats and rabbits. (the people/workers are nice too and seats are available everywhere around the park) (there are bathroom too)

Good place to visit with kids. Many different attractions and nature around. Park is definitely demanding to be renewed. Another one thing that worsened my impression is a crowd of homeless dogs running here and there. Looks potentially dangerous, especially for kids.

The park is quite big with a huge entrance. We visited in the first week of October and parts of the park was covered with yellow color leaves looking like a yellow Carpet. The trees give a glow when sunlight falls on them. There is only one shop for coffee and snacks which is not easily visible. Overall it's a wonderful place to walk around or sit and enjoy the colorful plants and trees.

First president park is the biggest park in Almaty. It is located almost in the centre of the city. You can take taxi or bus to go there. It is walkable distance from bus stop. The park is full of greenery and can find big water fountains. Many people come for jogging, photo shoots, yoga, reading, relaxing, etc. It is also an excellent park for all age groups. And they have maintained very neat and clean. I visited at autumn season. So it was very beautiful with different colors of leaves in the trees. Also we can see the snowy mountains from there in winter.

Great place to spend time with kids. Free entry for children under 6 years. We went during winter and many cages were empty as they were transferred to winter pavillion.

It's a very nice zoo. The entry fee is reasonable!It has a lot of different types of animals for example 5 or 6 types of eagles. It has good playgrounds for children. It doesn't smell too stinky for a zoo. However some areas were closed like the predator house and the reptile house. Overall great experience. It takes an average of 1 to 2 hours to look around the whole zoo.

First of all I rented the cart that takes you around the place and the driver had an attitude all the time, i paid 7000 tenge for basically bad attitude. The animals look in a poor condition, not fed well and small cages for all animals. I visited in the winter so a lot of animals aren’t there already.

Surprisingly well organised zoo with comfortable entrance and great area for walks and rest. Animals are living in quite wide and spacious areas, which is good to mention unlike many ex-Soviet capitals zoos. Various cafes and kiosks are good to buy things and drinks when it's hot. However not all toilets are working within the zoo. Also, I would propose to put bands with names and parent's phone number on each entering kid because many children get lost and you hear them crying for Mom. İn general, absolutely must-visit place when you're in Almaty with family and kids.

Not very fond of zoos that restrict animals from living in a free habitat. The cages and enclosures were very small in many areas and many animals in very small surroundings compared to their natural homes. However, they looked well fed and healthy. Other than the animals, nice walks and beautiful landscaping all around. It's an older zoo with outdated structur, but fun for the kids.

Almaty Zoo is a fun place to visit with many animals like tigers, bears, and monkeys. It's a nice spot for families to spend time together and learn about different creatures. The zoo offers a pleasant environment to enjoy nature and observe various animals up close.

It is a small zoo. The cost of adult ticket is 800 tenge and for a child its 300 tenge. The zoo have a fair number of animals considering the cost. Some animals are not on the cage. The place is crowded during the weekend.

The building is impressive and located in a lovely park. The museum itself is okay, there are a few nice objects but nothing that will blow your mind. Mostly recreations rather than actual archeological artifacts. There was a very charming series of dioramas about the various ethnic groups living in Kazakhstan. Go if you have the time, but don’t worry about missing it, if coming here strains your itinerary.

Fantastic museum with plenty of exhibits across a broad range of subjects. Wonderful architecture in the building design. Well worth taking the time to visit. A mere 500 Tenge entrance fee in 2024. National museum, slightly strange though. There's a hall in the middle where there was a Christmas market in december, surrounded by the museum rooms around. Many of the rooms were closed. The only exhibits I could access were an ethnographic collection, an exhibition on Kazakh independence and a bunch of stuffed animals.

Very chaotic both for ticket price and visiting policy. First, entrance fees is 500, there are another 1000 for the anthropology hall and 1000 for another hall that I didn’t enter, another 1300 for the golden hall. So in order to enter all the halls you need to pay 3800. The price is fine, as long as you actually allow people to really see all the artifacts. I was chased out after I entered the hall for less than 30 mins. In the golden hall I argued for a bit and the staff let me finish. Thank you. But in the anthropology hall the staff just turned off the lights and forced me to leave. Never had such experience before in other countries or even in other museums in this country: Astana, Shymkent, etc. nowhere. Also, no photo allowed, even with phone in these two halls. No further comments, if this is the policy I respect. Also there is no good catalog sold there about these spectacular ancient artifacts. The 500 fee could let you in for the rest of the halls, which allowed photos by phone. But you could only enter once. At first I thought the upper level of the archaeological hall was connected to another hall so I went out for lunch and hoping to get there through another path. But it turned out not connected to anything. So by the time I was back and wanted to enter again, the staff wouldn’t let me in because I have already entered it…. Again, never had such problems before anywhere. The ticket chart did not say anything about the entry policy, photo policy (but the staff will remind you and there are signs on the wall) and there is no option for paying extra to take photos like some other comments said. What a nice and friendly museum. I understand very well that this museum is owned by the state and dedicated to the people here, and as a academic and someone very fascinated by the history and culture of this country I had an indeed very unpleasant experience, not very helpful for learning in my opinion. The feelings are subjective but facts are facts. Decide yourself whether you still want to go.

Amazing museum and it has a lot of information and lot of anvient history can be known. The fossils depicted inside the museum are really informative. The Kazakh culture information and depiction is really amazing. I was very amused by the amount of information that was given and the way fossila are preserved.

Don't forget to pay for additional ticket to get access to the protected room for the museum's gold and jewelry collection. It costs 1300 Tenge on top of the regular entry fee. You can ask for a guide who speaks English and several other languages. No photo and video is allowed in here. There are very interesting and extremly fine handmade gold aertifact and precious stone on display.

Loved the artifacts especially on the local content with some nice historic pieces. The mammoth remains are beautiful and the O'Dea of three levels building onto the present of the country is a nice idea.

It's the largest and most important museum in Almaty, worth a visit while exploring the city. There are 4 main halls, each with a special focus on one particular aspect of life in Kazakhstan. The museum's building is old and the air conditioning during the summer months may not be sufficient. It would also help if they have boxes in the cloakroom to leave the backpack whole visiting.

The Kolsai lakes are located on the territory of the national park; entry into the park is paid. It takes about 3 hours to drive from Almaty. There are hotels and guest houses nearby. Beautiful nature and views around.

This review refers to the second Kolsai Lake. We had to hike from the first Kolsai Lake to this lake and it took us 2-3 hours oneway. We found the hike and the lake to be okay.

Lovely lake , one can take pretty drone shots here and photos as well. There are trails around the lake which one can walk around . Visiting around March the lake is frozen . However the beauty is magnificent.

In fact, there are three Kolsai lakes: Lower, Middle and Upper. The lower lake is about 1 km long, 400 meters wide and 80 meters deep. The middle lake is the largest of the three and reaches a depth of 50 meters. The upper lake is surrounded by spruce and alpine meadows. You cannot go to the Middle and Upper Lakes by car, so you need a horse to go there. To the lower Kolsay lake, you can arrive by sightseeing bus, but it can also be a good idea if you arrive by your own car. The road is good. Entrance to the lakes is about $ 2.5 per person. You can take a kayak or boat for $ 10 for 30 minutes or $ 18 for 1 hour. Before arriving in Kolsai, it will be good if you book a house. Kolsai lakes is a scenic lake approximately 120 - 130 kms from Almaty situated in northern Tian Shan Mountains. We visited only the first lake due to time constraint. For nature lovers it is the perfect place. We went in October last week on a Sunday. Very little crowd. So we enjoyed the beautiful lake in peaceful atmosphere :D

Well !! before travelling to this place I had no knowledge about the place or the beauty it has to offer.. The place is a gem on earth with breathtaking views and beautiful spots.. There are three viewpoints to lake and the first one is easily accessible the second one involves a walk. The place gives amazing spot for catching a minute of peace and tranquility… the landscape is amazing and a must see place..

Breathtaking view! Impressive how well maintained the vicinity is. There’s a restaurant close to the parking, very well located. Bringing own food is also an option, this is what we did. There’s a platform from the viewpoint where people could take photos. From there you could go down the lake, a short hike after passing the bridge to go half round the lake, one can take a boat ride too. Though I was expecting that the boats could actually take you back to starting point of the hike, but they’re only there for people to experience the lake. So you take the same walking route back where you start. Overall, worth to visit and very happy I included this is my Almaty tour. PS. Bring a raincoat/ jacket if visiting in June. Weather can be unpredictable.

Beautiful lake. Its crystal-clear waters mirrored the surrounding peaks, and the vibrant greenery along the shores made it a perfect spot for a leisurely picnic.

It was unusually warm in December 5 and 6 this year when we visited Kolsai and Kaindy lakes as well as Moon canyon. By this time the lake should be frozen. But not this year. Hidden jewel of Kazakhstan. Definitely a must visit place near Almaty. Lake is very picturesque, you need to hike a bit to reach there from the car parking area. Interestingly this lake changes its color according to the seasons. Also, it is very close to kyrgyzstan's northern border. We went there through an organized trip by Almaty tours company. This place was amazing. Ground floor full of fresh fruits, everyday foods and whatever you want you can find here. The price cheaper compare to mini market. On the Second Floor a lot of clothes, jewellery, souvenirs, and etc but the price not cheap. The other side of building you can find meat markets. It's very huge and I think this is fresh meat farm. The ground floor full with shoes and bag stalls. The price very expensive. But you can find many types or brand. If you are foreigner they will cut you down. Only local people can bargain them. At outside perimeter building you can find many stalls that sell everything including hardware, house item and product. The price not very good for foreigners. I would like to find local products with reasonable price but in this area they will increase the price if you can't speak their language. Not every item had price tag. Most of the item look like imported from China.

Prices are cheaper in the stalls outside the building, but even inside the prices are not unreasonable. This is a delightful market, which is also known as the Central or the green market of Almaty. It is a busy place with multiple stores selling all sorts of spices and herbs and a variety of other gifts clothes etc. Everything you would imagine from a Central market my delight was in buying some presents for my grandchildren so now they have something from Kazakstan.

Zelyony (Green) Bazaar is located a short walk from Panfilov Park. The building, although large, is relatively unassuming from the exterior, it is only when you enter that you get a real sense of what this amazing bazaar is all about. The main building houses many of the food stalls. There are stalls selling all manner of food products and the different categories of food are in sections. There are dried fruit and nut stalls, spices, fresh fruit drinks, cheese, sushi, Chinese etc. The list goes on and on. Towards the rear of this building is an area dedicated to meat. It is quite the eye opener. The various stalls have basic images depicting what animal meat is being sold. The main building is connected with staircases and alleyways with lots more stalls. There is quite honestly a stall for everything. The footprint of the bazaar is really quite large. You can happily meander your way through the market, going from clothing to hardware to flowers and then fruit and vegetables, among many other thing. You get the idea, there’s always something to catch your eye and although relatively busy when I visited, it wasn’t overcrowded. The market stall holders were all very friendly. A word of caution, some of the stalls are over priced but nevertheless this is an experience I would highly recommend and provides a wonderful insight to some of Kazakhstans

A fascinating cross section of instruments from the region. Great exhibits and lovely presentation of the instruments. Placards were also in English which was appreciated! Left me eager to find examples of music made with the various instruments and I do wish there was a small gift shop with a few examples of the smaller portable ones available.

Fascinating museum exhibiting different musical instruments both local and foreign. The presentation is innovative as some of the instruments were suspended in mid air by fine plastic cords. Could be more interesting to play video clips of how some musical instruments (especially the unusual ones) are used

It is a relatively small museum in Central Almaty featuring a collection of musical instruments from Kazakhstan and around the world. For an entry fee of 1500, you will get to see two main halls on either side of the building. The museum is rarely crowded and you can have enough space for yourself to explore the area.

Great exhibition for Kazakh Musical instruments and some historic Instruments from all over the world. Nice displays and you can book a guided tour. Definitely worth visiting. As the exhibition is not so big you can spend there from 30 min to 1.5 hours.

Beautiful small museum dedicated to the folk instruments of Kazakhstan and around the world. Displays are clean and nice with some seating and a great rotating video of clips of the instruments being played.

A rather interactive depiction of eastern musical instruments with videos of professionals playing some of the instruments. It's pretty much nice, cheap and doesn't take much time to visit.

This is a unique museum that has various types of instruments that has shaped the culture of Turkhistan. From kopuz to davul, from dombra to saz you will witness and be able to study many different, amazing and antique instruments. You will also be able to see the stuff that Turkic Kam's (shamans) instruments and 1000 years old old Turkic grave stones called balbals. I really enjoyed the place and you can also hire an English, Russian, Kahazakh language speaking guides. Most of them are students and please leave tip to them at the end of tour. I fully recommend this place.

I honestly want to give it 5 stars, but its modest scope and lack of materials to supplement skimp descriptions do not allow me. You can fully cover all within in hour if you pay generous attention to all exhibits, which consist of a wide range of local instruments as well as medley from around the globe. With this, I'm hopeful that eventually it can expand and live up to much higher degree of anthological value. To the support materials shortage (imo) - there's just one screen which displays on the loop the actual playing of a number of instruments, but I believe it can be expanded to side stories in chambers dedicated to particular instruments, and of course the world collection can benefit from video aspect too. With this nitpicking of mine out of the way, I can applaud to this well-put-together gallery, and wholeheartedly recommend to visit. Entrance fee is currently 500kzt (about a dollar). p.s. on the second picture one can see an Indonesian musical instrument, which I saw for the first time here, in Kazakhstan, despite my having had spent many days in museums around Nusantara in my time. So there's some hidden gems for sure.

Really impressive Beautiful scenery

There’s a review below from a foreign guy stating this is a lake in Kyrgyzstan, but it’s not. The one in Kyrgyzstan is Issyk Kul, this one is Lake Issyk located in Kazakhstan. Both are beautiful lakes. Writing this just to avoid confusion. Enjoy your visit.

On 15 November the road is open. But on the entrance they check that you have winter tires. In late autumn come to the lake before 15.30 - lighting will be better. These pictures were taken at 16.30 and it was too dark already. If you need tour to the lake please see my web site.

Hidden and insanely beautiful Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan! Many people believe that Issyk-Kul is only a lake. It is really beautiful and is one of the 30 largest lakes in the world by area and ranks seventh in the list of the deepest lakes. But many people do not suspect how beautiful this region of Kyrgyzstan can be. Issyk-Kul square is almost identical to the Switzerland. It means that there is something to see here. I started working in tourism and at the same time was engaged in landscape photography. Every year I explored new places, gorges, mountain lakes and new trails. I discovered insanely beautiful places. It took a lot of time and effort to get there, but it was worth it! I want to share my works with you and show the beauty of our region!. Thank you!

Beautiful place. Small trek. Turquoise blue waters

We went there in September. Although weather was colder, we had a nice trip. The nature of this place makes you wonder. Very nice place to go and refresh your mind.

The lake is a little bit far from Almaty, an hour and half to reach. It's beautiful but there are no activities around. Also, there are no rest rooms available.

We went a mid November morning when it had snowed the previous night. There were practically no other tourists around and we had the lake pretty much to ourselves. Didn't really get nice views of the surrounding mountains due to fog but the still powdery snow was great to play in. Must admit the snowman we built was not the best one ever made. The road required the car to have winter tires. Would recommend a visit when in Almaty

Lovely small lake not far from Almaty. There are so.e walking trails, but none that go around the lake completely. Likely to be fairly crowded if it's a nice day. You park about 1 km from the lake and can walk or take a shuttle van to the area just above the lake.

A must visit place for a visit to Almaty. If possible, visit this early in morning. You can enjoy it more if you beat the rush. I reached there at 8.30am

Must visit !! You will be mesmerized by this lake which is formed amidst huge mountains. There is a 15 min walk to reach the lake. Alternatively, taxis are available to take you down to the lake

One of the beautiful mosques. Had been on a Friday. I managed to find a spot for myself on the main hall ground floor. Once all the places are occupied people are forced to pray outside. There is a separate facility for females. Toilets are located nearby for both males and females. Across the road is a good tea shop and accessories shop for Muslims. The sermon is in the Kazakh language.

Eid al adha prayer good size and arranged

It’s an amazing place of worship on the day of Friday you must enter before 12:00 Pm because so many peoples will come across the Almaty NCR Friday Prayer time is 1:30 Qutbah Time is 1:10.

It was an enriching experience to be able to watch the imam and the prayers prayed. The outside and inside of the mosque were beautiful.

Quiet and peaceful place. I can’t tell but I felt a little bit different ambience from other mosque.

Beautiful while marble mosque with golden top. Went there in the morning, very quiet and peaceful. There’s public toilets and a small fountain at the back yard too. No tickets needed.

Very big Mosque in Almaty city. Well decorated internally. Wonderful carpets. Capacity of 7000 prayers.

MasyaAllah tabarakallah such a pretty mosque. Welcoming and strategic. Ablution area is at the front near small fountain. Al Qurans are available for reading. Lovely quarter.
