Beautiful church. Very unique. You need to pay to enter. I also heard a sermon in English. I think they do English sermons on Monday afternoon. I am not Christian so I can't rate from prayer/sermon/praying facility point of view but still I can say that it is very nice and unique church in the whole world

Unusual church carved into rock with skylights & a copper dome. Quite striking but we only viewed from the outside. The dome is from 22kms of copper strips. You can climb around the rocky surroundings to view from almost the top. You can pay to go inside, which looks amazing.

What an amazing candlelight concert! The church is beautiful and the atmosphere was amazing! Goosebumps all the way through the concert! I was literally tearing up at how amazing this entire concert was! A small quartet with a big impact! I would definitely recommend going to such an amazing event!

We loved the church very much. It’s a unique place to visit. The church is built into the existing rock. This makes the place even more unique from the acoustic point of view. Inside is so peaceful: quite and beautiful piano music was playing the whole stay 💕 definitely must be visited

It's one of the most stunning churches I've been too and a brilliant example of contemporary architecture. It has a great calming vibe and is divided into 2 levels. View from the top level is better.

A beautiful, quiet place to visit in Helsinki. The copper top and the organ is impressive. You can hike around the back and see trees growing on top of it all. It was crowded but we were able to get tickets and go right in.

It has a remarkable structure that beautifully combines nature and modernity. The church is carved into rock, resulting in an interior illuminated by natural light pouring through the skylight. The incorporation of exposed rock walls and a copper dome brings together a touch, enhancing the overall atmosphere.

Indeed this is quite unique. However except the building itself there isn't much to do. The architecture is impressive especially for the church. Tickets are not cheap though, but they can ask such prices as people are still going to come.

It's a very interesting concept to built a church in the rocks. The copper dome is really amazing. In general I liked the feeling of being in the church but I would prefer the music to play louder. I would definitely recommend a visit.

A must-try attraction when you visit Helsinki. Very beautiful, peaceful and holy place to not only Christians but also tourists. A special church was created by carving into a huge stone. So the locals call it as "the stone church". There are often many musical performance here and I usually spend some free time to listen music here to balance my life and work. Highly recommended

This is really a very beautiful church. Unfortunately there are mostly a lot of tourists. Therefore it is not really silent in this church. It sounds more like waiting at the railway station. Sometimes a lady talks through the speakers to be more silent, but this helps only 5 seconds... For me a fun fact: Even citizens of Finnland are not allowed to enter this church without paying the entrance fee... 😂

Beautiful and very peaceful. Ideal place to do your prayers and Quuet Time. There is always a soft muzak playing although personally the selection could be more serene to complement the ambience. Beautiful architecture and design.

The church looks cool from the outside, but please, pay the small amount of admission fee and check out what's hiding inside. The workers there are really kind and cheerful, and the church is absolutely stunning. You can take the stairs to check it from the first floor as well. If you are really tired, you can take a seat and admire the architecture from there. There is also nice organ music playing in the background.

Very nice visit in one of the winter afternoon, enjoyed the rehearsal of orchestra performances there. HOWEVER, I was followed by 2 women tried to steal something from my handbag after the visit outside the road, so terribly shocked. I checked my stuffs, luckily they didn't get anything as I caught her put her hand in my bag from the back. Have to be very careful , this very touristy spot, even in Helsinki. Oh Lord, thanks God.

Interesting church carved out of bedrock. It was built by two brother architects in the 1960s and is famed for its acoustics. It’s a bit expensive to go in (8 euros) in my opinion, but an interesting church nonetheless. It’s actually quite small, that is why the price seems a bit steep for me for what you get.

If you are coming to Helsinki, this stop is an absolute must. It is truly a unique experience and would highly suggest attending some type of concert - the acoustics are impressive. Important point - know where the entrance is at hahaha. You can easily find yourself on the back side of the church, climbing up stairs or walking up a path to a small outdoor seating area with now way to get down to the entrance. I marked on the screen capture where to go in. I will say the entrance to the church looks like you are going into a bunker. But as soon as you come in, you see the unique beauty of this church. There is an entry fee, but there is a small shop at the entrance, so you can pay with a card. We came in during a choir and instrumental practice. The seating is unique and fits perfectly within the space. There is also a beautiful organ, but unfortunately, we never got to hear it. I can imagine it would be quite the experience. There is additional seating on the upper balcony - also great sound and a viewing area if you don't want to go down onto the floor area. We spent quite a bit of time just sitting and admiring the work that was done to create such a unique place of worship. Thank you very much.

The pros : original place inside a rock and with an impressive metal roof. From the outside doesn’t look like much but inside is much more impressive. The cons : entrance fee of 8 euros is on the high side for a visit that will take a few minutes at best.

This was on my must-see list and glad I got to experience going inside. Unless you’re in Italy, church has never been on any of my itinerary but this was a one of a kind unique contemporary church built out of a rock. How many churches do you know where the interior was excavated from a solid rock?! Suggest you take in the atmosphere from the upstairs balcony.

Impressive cathedral cause it’s build directly into rock but the entry costs 8 euros and inside there is no much to see. It’s a Lutheran church.

This was probably the coolest thing we did in Helsinki. You take a ferry to the island. There are a lot of trails, we mostly stayed on the blue line with only a couple deviations. The River that cuts through the middle was awesome. Near the end you can walk up a hill toward some cannons. Don’t miss this!! There are little mounds that look like a hobbit city!! It’s a really cool landscape you can explore. You get great views of Helsinki from the cannon area too! We went into an art shop on the way back and they had some REALLY cool stuff that the locals that LIVE on the island make. Very talented people!! Loved this excursion!!

A must visit when in Helsinki. Great ferry trip there, which is especially good in nice, warm weather. You can walk around the island in about 90minutes comfortably (and with some beers).

Great day spent at Suomenlinna. A must see if in the Helsinki area. 20 minute ferry ride is beautiful. Our 6yr old loved the underground tunnels. Spectacular views everywhere. Great cafes around the island.

Amazing place to hang out for half a day (or more). Many places to climb on, canons and views! The military museum is a must visit!

Really lovely place. Definitely recommend a visit to walk around and enjoy the nature. Best time is during the summer when the weather is warm and sunny and all the places are open. However during wintertime this little island has a totally different vibe which is also interesting to experience.

This was a really cool experience for me, went with a friend during the week and the best part the transportation was included in my 5 day city transport pass. One of the coolest things on the island to see are the cannons, the shipyard and the surrounding views. It's just a really nice place for a chill walk.

Super cool island that is easily accessible via ferry or seabus. Beautiful walk along the ramparts and interesting to see all of the huge cannons up close. A few cafes on one side where one can have lunch, just be wary that they will often only be serving lunch from 12-14:00.

Very nice island to visit. It’s free of charge (except you want to go inside the museums), You can reach it by the ferry from Market Square. The ferry is a part of the transport system, so the standard fare applies (3.10€ per person). You can buy the ticket at the machine next to the harbour. Try to go there on a sunny day. I bet it’s much nicer than the rainy weather we had.

Place to enjoy at least one whole day. Several ferries to Helsinki city also after midnight. Several museums on the islands (maybe, the more interesting is the military one), but generally, nice to stroll around the fortress.

Visited on Sunday. The ferry ticket was included in the day traffic ticket which is convenient. It is a good and historic place to visit and spend around 2 hours. The brewery is closed on Sunday, what a pity. Bought local beer Karhu in the market, loved it.

A cool fortress just a short ferry ride away from Helsinki. Interesting preserved architecture and nice views of the surrounding area. An interesting museum can also be found on the island. The views of Helsinki from the ferry are also great. Definitely worth a visit. In February the island was covered in snow and ice, but was still a great experience.

Good place to visit. The guided walking tour is definitely a good think to buy, otherwise you won’t get the context you need to understand the places you’ll pass by while exploring.

Amazing islands with lots of museum attractions. The icing on the cake is the opportunity to visit the submarine. Buying a full-day public transport ticket in Helsinki (€ 9) we have a ferry to the islands for free.

If you have to visit one thing whilst in Helsinki then this should be at the top of your list. A mere 20 mins ferry ride from the Helsinki harbour front you will find Suomenlinna. Tickets for the ferry can be purchased at the pier. It is a preserved site, township and fortress. Absolutely stunning things to see all over the island with information scattered across each famous landmark so it is easy to self tour the place yourself. Several museums available to visit too. Most of the houses are private residential areas so it is important to respect their privacy. Spent a good 2.5 hours there just roaming around and taking in all the sights and surroundings. Cafes, restaurants and souvenirs are also available. Must see so don't miss this place.

Nice fortified island in front of the old Helsinki port. It's just 15 minutes ferry ride to it from Kauppatori quay. Take your time to walk around the island after visiting the fort museum. Be mindful though of the residential areas in which people live, indicated by a small blue sign with a house in it.

We visited in autumn, and this island makes for a good half to one day trip from Helsinki. There are many different museums here (you need to pay per entrance if you don't have the Helsinki card), but our personal favourite was the World War 2 submarine and war museums. There are also historical buildings you can visit, and you can also get scenic views of the sea here. Everything is within Walkable distance, takes about an hour to two to walk non-stop from one end to the other end. There are also different restaurants here for food if you want to try it out, but nothing caught our eye. We did try an ice cream stall that sold 1 cone for 4.50 euros. As this is a tourist spot, expect things here to be pricey if you're spending money, even the church charges an entrance fee. Otherwise you can also bring your own food and have a picnic here, the King's Gate is quite a good place to sit and chill. Do check the weather before coming here though, as it was raining when we were here and that somewhat affected our experience as most of the places are unshelthered. Overall an interesting attraction to visit with different activities. Highly recommended as a half to full day excursion from Helsinki. You can reach this place via a public ferry that departs every 20 minutes from the Market Square.

Suomenlinna fortress is one of my favourite places in Finland. Such a beautiful place. The Suomenlinna fortress is located on the coast of Helsinki and it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. I loved everything about this place. You can spend a few good hours walking and exploring the sea fortress. It is a must visit for everyone. I highly recommend it. There are a few restaurants and coffee shops. There's no entry fee to the fortress but you'll have to take a ferry from Helsinki to Suomenlinna fortress. The tickets have different options. For example, buy a single ticket or all-day tickets. The good thing about the tickets is that they can be used for any public transport.

Really beautiful way to spend a few hours! A great work around the island seeing some historical points and experiencing some enjoyable views. Also had some coffees from different spots on the island which is always welcome.

Suomenlinna is a captivating historical site with stunning views of the sea and surrounding islands. The fortress offers a fascinating glimpse into Finland's military past and is perfect for a leisurely day of exploration. You can visit by taking public transport ferry to this Island. The day pass transport ticket covers this route also, you don't need to purchase extra ticket. You may need to spend around 3 to 4 hours to go and visit this destination.

Short ferry ride (20min) and nice to visit for a couple of hours or more. Would I prioritize this over other tourist points in Helsinki: no. I recommend seeing it but not above other things and especially during the winter. Count about 30min to cross the island on foot and about 3hrs when doing the full tour.

Absolutely stunning in the winter. The colored buildings give a lovely view against the white backdrop. It’s super nice to walk around. I recommend to walk all the way to Kings gate and back. And a great bonus, there’s a supermarket near the ferry stop!

We’ve only visited the Cathedral from outside. This white coloured structure forms an iconic view from the yard in front of her. She is beautiful. If you’re visiting Helsinki for very short time even for a transit, this place is a place for “must visit”.

Helsinki Cathedral is, I think, one of main attractions in Helsinki. And for reason - Helsinki Cathedral is a magnificent building. With its robust appearance it entices full buses of tourists, and why not Finnish tourists, too, to admire its shiny white walls and green domes. The inside of the cathedral isn't any dissappointment, either, so in my opinion, the church is absolutely worth of visit.

Of course, going to Helsinki for me meant visiting churches and cathedrals. I think this one is where you'll see most tourists, for a reason. It's located next to the parliament as well, and the view from up there is incredible. I didn't take any picture of what it looks like inside. It's small and clean. Very white.

Not much to say beyond Wow! I’m not a very religious person but this church impresses. The architecture is beautiful and it was so peaceful when we visited I wanted to stay and enjoy it for awhile. There is an absolutely MASSIVE organ that I would love to hear but we weren’t so lucky on the day we visited. I recommend blocking out a good 20-30 minutes for this cathedral to make sure you get a good look inside and out. If you’re in a pinch you could do it in 5-10 and get the idea. Admission is free but you can do a quick and easy 5€ donation if you are so inclined.

The most beautiful building in Helsinki! Amazing! I could look at it for hours and will still be in awe of its majestic appeal. It’s stunning. It’s clean and well maintained despite being touristy and always crowded. It’s free to go inside but donations are very much welcomed. Its location is very central so as a tourist you can go to several places within the area as well and maximize your time.

Beautiful and iconic cathedral located in the central area of Helsinki. Free entry. The steps infront of the cathedral are really high. Definitely a must visit when you are in the capital city of Finland!

We have been here during wintertime and enjoyed the impressive building from the outside. There are big stairs in front of the building you need to climb to get to the church. Inside it was a bit disappointing since the walls are mostly just plane white. Even if it says the entry fee is five euros it is free since the fee is voluntary. We spent there about ten minutes in total.

Both the interior and exterior of the church are truly awesome. Situated atop a hill in the city centre, the location lends a remarkable look to the church. Previously known as St. Nicholas Church and Great Cathedral, this magnificent church, which now serves as the main church of the Helsinki Diocese, was finished in 1852. One of the Helsinki top attractions. Compared to the Russian cathedral - well, it's doesn't have such a rich decoration , it's way more simple. But still, it's magnificent and you can see it from the board of the ship, even before you reach the passanger terninal.

Helsinki’s most iconic building, dominating Senate Square and the harbour area, is somewhere any visitor is likely to end up. The square itself is rather windswept and soulless, but the cathedral is an attractive, redeeming feature. Inside, it is interesting but relatively plain, perhaps its most unusual feature the shape and layout; the pews seem to focus on the centre, but the altar is actually in the eastern apse. A visit will not take long, but it is certainly worth a few minutes exploration.

One of Helsinki’s many landmarks. Definitely worth stopping by during the day, but at night time it’s particularly beautiful. Great photo opportunities around the large square surrounding it. There’s special activities and events that take place throughout the year in this square. Also, this is where the opening sequence in the music video for “Darude - Sandstorm” was filmed!

Lots of stairs!!!! It’s iconic to the city though so I say it’s a must do. I walked in during a service and it was crazy busy standing room only and that’s the only time in 20years of traveling in Europe that I’ve seen that happen. It’s very pretty on the outside not so much on inside. The real charm is the adjacent square where you can take pictures, grab refreshments, and people watch.

In my opinion Helsinki Cathedral is not quite as attractive as Uspenski, but definitely a must visit church if you are in Helsinki. You can see the monument from quite far away, so it dominates the Helsinki skyline. I was surprised by the inside - it really wasn’t decorated much like most cathedrals with mosaics etc. To enter a 5 Euro donation is asked which can only be paid by card.

It's a nice building. When we went, there were prayers happening but we were still allowed to go in quietly. I thought it was quite plain looking compared to other cathedrals I've visited. But it's still worth a look.

The white colour and green domes makes the cathedral even more more magnificent. You must take a few steps before you reach the cathedral but it's worth visiting. The entry fee is 5€ per person.

Breathtaking. I had seen pictures, I knew it would be big, but when i saw it for the first time, my jaw dropped. It was so much bigger than i thought! Such a beautiful, gorgeous building. The stairs are so cool. It wasn't what i expected from the inside, it was different but still great.

I am not quite sure if I like to Cathedral for its ascetics or because it gave us an escape from the coldd for a few minuutes. The Cathedral is typical of a Lutheran structure with very few icons consistent with the Lutheran faith. The Bishop of Helsinki has his seat there. The building was designed by Carl Ludvig Engel in neoclassical style and construction lasted from 1830 to 1852.

I went to this place multiple times now the recent visit was with a Red Umbrella Free Walking Tour with our Guide Matti. The place is majestic with interesting history and the interiors are quite peaceful. It doesn't involve any entrance fees. When I went inside for the first time in Feb 2024, there was a wedding ceremony just starting so the entry was stopped for a while. Weddings are common in summer as I was told. I could take a seat for a peaceful 10 mins. Also met a Pakistani Christian on the second visit. What are the odds.

It’s a beautiful cathedral which was constructed with recycle bricks due to budget restrains. Although it’s modest size, the cathedral is fitted very elegantly with beautiful paintings and decorations. Be mindful not to use your camera flash inside as there are many valuable artwork. Give yourself a minimum of 30 minutes to enjoy this spectacular building.

A beautiful Russian cathedral that you can see from many different parts of Helsinki due to the hill it’s built on. The architecture is also quite unique compared to other buildings in the city so it’s a refreshing visit. The inside is equally as beautiful and if you have the chance I’d recommend. There was a service going on while I was there so only got a bit of a glimpse from the side.

Helsinki 2nd famous cathedral. Architecture is influenced by Russian design and it is beautiful made with bricks. It is on small hill so when at above you get good view of near by places. Inside architecture is also good. Can't get enough of bricks color and preservation of the cathedral. There are few steps to climb before you see the main entrance. There are other ways to come. Very near to market and some food joints. It is crowded on most of the days.

Compared to the rather dark brick exterior, the interior is filled with light, which when the sun shines beautifully captures the wall paintings and gold of the icons. It has a peaceful feel which encourages you to spend a few minutes reflecting. Note opening hours may change around religious festivals such as Holy Week and Easter.

It was a very beautiful Cathedral both inside and outside. It was about a 5-10 minute walk from the main Helsinki Cathedral, but worth the walk for the view. The inside was filled with the smell of incense for anyone with a sensitivity.

This is quite a beautiful place being the Russian Orthodox cathedral in Helsinki and the largest Russian Orthodox cathedral in all of Western and Northern Europe. It is the center of the Finnish Orthodox community in Finland. I always find the icons particularly attractive in the atmosphere in the church is peaceful. Well worth a visit to a very historic place.

Peaceful and tranquil. A place filled with awe! Amazing artistry and well kept. A must visit. Love the way tourist are asked to pay their respects. No phone conversations, no talking loudly, no head gear and no flash photography. Very simple ways to show respect of other’s culture. Just love the peace and quiet here. Come in and sit in the chairs provided for a few minutes and just find peace. A donation is requested at the entrance.

I loved that Cathedral. It's quiet, it's peaceful. The architecture, the interior are amazing. You could feel the previous generations in there if you'd take a several minutes to sit and relax.

Located on a short climb up the hill, this is a very interesting place to admire the Eastern Orthodox Church architecture from outside and inside. It was quite the experience to experience the grand exterior and interior of the cathedral. No information boards if you're coming here alone, and the church interior is not all that big, but still okay to visit on your own. Recommend the experience as entrance into the cathedral is free, unlike other more famous churches in Helsinki.

This cathedral may look big but the opened area to the public is very limited to only a corner of the entrance. It probably took less than 5 minutes to finish this site as you could not really get up close to see the details. If you are in the area, no harm to go visit for a bit; yet definitely no need to come all the way to visit.

Helsinki seems like a perfect place to have a walk, if you’re in introvert, because you can barely find any people outside. The Senate Square is no different 😄 It’s pretty famous place in Helsinki, must see location and I can see why. If we don’t take in consideration historical aspects, it’s still a nice place to be to admire some architecture and take selfies (if you’re a tourist)

Just in front of the cathedral there is the tourist office, located in Aleksanterinkatu 24. The cathedral is beautiful and imposing externally but totally devoid of frescoes internally.

We've been living in Helsinki but each time I am back to this beautiful city I like to visit these iconic sites. Great location and historical significance and beauty of this place is remarkable. The Helsinki Cathedral, also known as Tuomiokirkko, stands tall and majestic at the top of a grand staircase, making for a striking visual from afar. As you approache the Cathedral you can see details of its neoclassical design and bright white facade. Exquisite sculptures and columns exude an aura of elegance and timelessness. Inside the Cathedral the vast, vaulted ceilings adorned with intricate paintings, magnificent altar and a serene atmosphere creates a perfect setting for reflection and contemplation. Whether you're religious or not, the Cathedral's sense of history and reverence leaves a profound impact on visitors. Next to the cathedral is the oldest Russian Orthodox church in Helsinki. Adjacent to the Cathedral, the Senate Square, or Senaatintori, offers open space surrounded by 19th century buildings. The architecture is dominated by the Government Palace, the University of Helsinki's main building, and the National Library of Finland. All buildings were built mostly during the Russian Empire. The city also called second st. Petersbourg. The symmetrical layout and the blend of neoclassical and romantic styles give the square an air of grandiosity and harmony. Climb up the stairs to the Cathedral for great photos. The panoramic view of Helsinki from there was simply breathtaking. What's more, the area around the Cathedral and Senate Square is a vibrant hub of cultural activities and events. Throughout the year, concerts, exhibitions, and festivals take place, adding to the lively and inviting atmosphere of the place. The Cathedral and Senate Square are conveniently located within walking distance of other Helsinki attractions, making it an ideal starting point for exploring the city. The nearby Esplanade Park, Helsinki Market Square, streets of the city center were you can do some shopping, dining, etc.The Cathedral and Senate Square in Helsinki are amazing buildings that you must see. The Cathedral is so beautiful and grand, both outside and inside. The Senate Square is a big open area with lovely old buildings around it. It's a great place to visit if you like history, architecture, or just want to enjoy the atmosphere of the city. Don't miss out on these famous landmarks when you're in Helsinki!

The centerpiece of the square is the magnificent Helsinki Cathedral, a stunning white cathedral with its striking green domes that dominate the skyline. The Christmas market was set up here and it was a good setup with market stalls and lights. The market was a bit too clustered and crowded but generally a very bubbly scene.

Senate square is such a beautiful place to visit. The buildings are gorgeous and it's worth the visit!

Beautiful square all seasons. Climb to the top of stairs to get a panoramic view. During winter, there is a Christmas market at the square with stalls selling handicrafts, local food and drinks. It's quite a beautiful experience to be in a snow covered landscape and warming up with mulled wine (glöggi).

This is a lovely square that is convenient to get to by bus. My only criticism is that we were using a wheelchair for my wife and it was not very friendly for handicapped access. It could be done only with patience and a lot of effort.

Outsode this very hustoric and picturesque cathedral, we were treated to a fantastic parade from the Finnish Cadet equivalent. Safe to say, the Finnish kids definitely put up a show. Fantastic!

Senate Square Helsinki has a huge market. Lots of diverse foods and non food items to buy. Out of all the food we had the huge pretzels were the best, so much variety, I had a poppy seed one, if I hadn't eaten before I would have bought another one 😋😋😋😋 The Hop on Hop off bus stops there and the tram runs right next to it as well. Well worth a look.

One month living in Finland, out of the capital, visited this kinda iconic place is exciting. Maybe because of winter, the light makes the surround looks gloomy. However, Helsinki rain station is really big with a lot of facility. But I haven't check the toilet condition. I hope they have a toilet with water jet (bidet).

Helsingi central station is very pretty and fabulous! The building is very attractive with the high chandeliers and you can always feel the pre-historical about it. So many restaurants and cafe chains do you don’t have to worry getting lost or starving. It’s also walking distance to so many touristy objects you can visit.

The station is clean and easily navigated but I always find in cold inside the halls during winter time. If i need to wait before the train departure I should go to a cafeteria or a restaurant nearby.

Helsinki Central Station is as super as the other Scandinavian railway. Its building is very attractive and clean as the rest of Finland and Helsinki as well. You have to pay more for the tickets in train but its normal in Finland. :)

Fantastic architecture and history. But, no free public toilet and very few seats for people waiting for thier train to arrive. The conversion of the Burger King is extremely unsympathetic to the original designs. The support from HSL staff is outstanding. They are wonderfully helpful!

Like everything in Finland, the rail system does things the Finnish way. Trains work reliably. Everything is clean. It’s kinda expensive. The building is iconic, in a brutalist way.

The luggage deposit has lots of luggage lockers of different sizes. As of FEB2023 you could pay in cash only (a machine nearby changes 5,10,20 eur notes to coins). 4 eur for a day I think, for a locker for 2 backpacks. Easy and convenient, lots of signs to reach it.

Inside this iconic Central Railway Station, one could get a train to the airport. This was thus the junction between the airport and city centre. There were a lot of convenience stores inside railway station. For instance, the R-kioski and Burger King. In particular the Burger King was well decorated in a classical way and didn’t seem like a fast food store that you encountered in other big cities around the world. The gigantic humanoid statues, each of which held a ball between their hands, were unforgettable.

Architecture is nice but most of the concourse is open and therefore chilly in winter. Long distance and regional services operate from here

The primary hub for commuter and long-distance trains departing from Helsinki, Finland, is the Helsinki Central Station since 1862. It sees roughly 400,000 daily visitors, with around 200,000 being passengers.

Beautiful Eliel Saarinen designed main railway station in Central Helsinki. All Finland local and far destinations. Central Finland Tampere, Mikkeli, Savonlinna, Jyvaskyla, Vaasa and Rovaniemi. Day and night trains, sleepers with drive-on car transport. Trains are very much on time unless rarely there is fog or heavy ice. Long distance trains have restaurant car, large windows with great countryside viewing.

The main train station of Helsinki, the architecture of the station looks majestic from the outside. We took the Santa Claus Express from this station, and the information boards are informative. There are many shops around and below this station, and it connects to the metro, tram and buses. The trains connecting Helsinki and the Vantaa International Airport arrives and departs from here too, beside the InterCity tracks. The I and P trains depart regularly to and fro, and takes at most 30 to 40 minutes to the airport. Our only complaint is that there are limited public seating available at the platforms, and you'll need to pay to sit at any of the restaurants facing the tracks. There are also people smoking on the platforms sometimes, which affects the waiting experience.

This place is a fantastic train station! 🚉 Helsingin päärautatieasema is the central train 🚆 station in Helsinki 🇫🇮 which has service to the many cities 🏙️ of Finland (Tampere, and more). This is also were you can catch the Santa 🎅 Express Night 🌃 Train 🚂 to Rovaniemi to visit the Santa Christmas 🎄 Village! 🏡 The station is super close to the mall and is accessible by tram 🚊 too (line 2). It also has lots of food options, coffee shops ☕, and a restaurant! 🍴 I wish I came here earlier!

Very big train station with lots of entrances. There's also at least twenty platforms, so be aware of which one you are going to. The architecture is also nice.

This place is where you can find peace in the middle of a crowded city. It so quite inside that you can even meditate. The chapel is located on the Narinkka Square and it is also known as the "Chapel of Silence" since it is intended to be a place to calm down and have a moment of silence in one of the busiest areas in Finland. I highly recommend this place. It’s free to enter and it’s gonna make a difference in the quality of your day!!

*Do not photograph the inside — and be respectful and silent during your visit!* Beautifully crafted silent contemplation room, offering many books of worship for the various ideologies. I believe places like this should exist across the globe, as it would bring people from all sorts of backgrounds closer, as well as provide some respite from the world’s daily hustle and bustle. The silence was incredible (though in my case it brought out the depth of my tinnitus). 😌 Definitely recommend taking a moment here to just pause, breathe, and reflect.

The silence here hits different. If you looking to take a break from the noisy and busy activities outside, then you should visit this place. It is a good place for mediating and reflecting. It is free to visit and taking pictures inside is not allowed.

It’s a nice chapel and very unique. I did get get to see inside but I like the architecture from outside.

This place is very serene. In the brief moments when no one is entering or leaving, you are in awe of how peaceful it feels, forgetting that you are in the middle of the city. With its minimal wood design it makes it easy to really sit still and reflect. Unfortunately, I did go when it had just opened for the day, so this feeling of serenity, only lasted briefly. Tip don't go when it had just opened. No tickets needed but this was midweek.

Beautiful park to explore as you're walking through central Helsinki. There's usually some event as well, in July there's daily Jazz musicians. Gorgeous scenery as well, and easy to walk off to many restaurants and bars.

It was the best park for the general public in central Helsinki. I visited it on Vappu day, which was the 1st of May. People were wearing captain hats and bright coloured trousers with lots of brand-names or well-known labels patches sewn on them. The event was spectacular.

This park is amazing. So tranquil and picturesque in winter. Just think about some Christmas songs when you walk in this park. The air was crisps and the scenic landscape was captivating.

I went in for the New Years Fireworks at the Senate Square . Spent some time at Esplanadi..It was beautifully well lit and busy.. Finding a parking spot was a challenge however figured it out eventually..

Beautiful area I'm Helsinki. We visited during the Midsummer Eve holiday. I loved shopping in the open market. It is a beautiful area. Definitely check it out!

A walk through a city center park between the dockside marketplace stores, Swedish Theatre by Stockmanns. Short and sweet, lined by expensive stores, it has the elegance of wealth in the 1800's, beautiful in the darkness and twinkling lights

Esplanadi Park (or simply Espa) is an urban park in downtown Helsinki that is surrounded by the grand Esplanadi boulevard. It was build by architecture Carl Ludwig in 1826. Cafes, bistros, and upmarket boutiques dot the boulevard. The park is not as big as some of the other parks in Helsinki but it’s a great place to relax, have a couple of drinks, or just watch the world go by. When the weather is nice there are usually some live music events in the park.

Great spot in the city centre, usually with some vendors. Mini concerts can happen in special days and there is a restaurant.

A small linked park running parallel to one of the main shopping streets in Helsinki. While you'd expect to see a park as a green open space, we were mega excited to see it completely white, covered in snow,cand even more excited that it was still decorated for Christmas.

Nice green space with benches, flowers and some cafes. Good escape from the buildings. Good place to hang out.

My favorite park in Heksinki. It's most beautiful during summertime. Popular with strollers, joggers, and picknickers, it's quieter during cold winter months. Flanked on both side by high-end boutiques, restaurants, and business offices, the neighborhood surrounding it is like a mini "Champ Elysées". A must visit for tourists.

Narrow slice of well kept park, edged by restaurants, shops & the famous Kappeli Restaurant, frequented by Jean Sibelius & other important historical Finnish figures. Music played during the summer months.

Nice small park with plenty of shops and restaurants close by to enjoy. There were a few ice-cream vendors in the park when we went and some live music.

Beautiful building with an incredible selection inside, please try this place. The food is incredible especially of you like seafood, but it does cater to all types of cuisines. It's a wonderful little place with selections from pastry to reindeer in a tin, it really does run the gamut. Just outside is the open air market which is also amazing but I will review separately.

Nice place with a variety of dine in and take out foods. Unfortunately the eating places are specific to stores, so you can't mix and match which we really wanted to do. The fish soup to some stores are quite good, I suggest walking through the Hall to find out which ones has a bigger bowl before choosing.

Gut place, lots of different food there. Tasty salmon. Crunchy bread Grilled shrimps Wonderful soup. Awesome desert And of course perfect drinks

Nice alleys with small shops at the sides. Most of the dishes are priced similarly though some shops have seating areas. Tried the salmon soup, cinnamon bun and hot chocolate at the Scandinavian cafe, did not disappoint.

The old market is definitely a must. Plenty of permanent food vendors offer traditional foods such as salmon or reindeer soup. Highly recommend. Find a place, order, sit and enjoy.

This is a great place to have lunch. We had the meat goulash and the salmon soup from "Soup & More". Delicious, and such a generous helping of meat. It's quite a big place. There are toilets at one end of the market. It's quite a squeeze, but the facilities are good. I would recommend this place.

The salmon and caviar stalls are spectacular. The marinated salmon and chilli prawns are excellent at all 3 stalls. The caviar is spectacular although it was sold to us saying that it was Russian and at home looking at the tin, we saw that it was from Greece, very good but it lies to you about the origin. Very good market in general although a bit expensive. It is a must visit.

Almost a posh place where you can buy a lot of local delicacies. I liked the building itself a lot, then the offer, and the fact that the products are local, or at least they claim to be. Or some of them are more exotic, such as a stand with Oriental food. Just mind the opening hours, this is not a place for dinner. There are free toilets to go to, but being so unmaintained and very tiny, I almost didn't feel like using them, even though I managed to squeeze in to the toilet cabin somehow.

Great historic market hall with lots of small cosy bistros, delis and delicacy shops. Can be very busy during summer season due to tourist groups being herded through here. Otherwise recommended!

The old market in Helsinki is a must visit place especially if you fancy some authentic Finnish food and delicacies. It’s a wonderful place to eat and experience local Finnish cuisines.

The place is not a big actually you could finish walking the whole thing in 15 minutes. But if you are looking for food there surely are some nice options, just not cheap ones though. Most of them are salmon based crackers and sandwiches / toasts, some soups as well. You could sit comfortably and enjoy the food.

Old Market Hall Vanha kauppahalli is a charming indoor market located in Helsinki. It offers a delightful array of fresh produce, local delicacies, and artisanal goods. There are plenty of traditional Finnish foods like creamy salmon soup, classic rye bread and others.

Beautifull traditional market with many Finn delicacies. Alot of Salmon, raw, cooked and in the traditional soup. Also not so common meats like bear or raindeer. There is also pastry and local cafes inside. Overall, its a great place to try local food and get some local vibes.

Lots of options for food, can try your first reindeer, elk or bear. Delicous fresh fish!! Close proximity to the pier and other tourist attractions such as churches, boat tours and more local market stalls. Everyone very friendly and speaks good Englis.

Well worth a visit! A few good places to eat and drink and not crowded at all. The salmon soup was amazing, and there’s also a lovely cafè in the middle. The caviar tasting is also interesting.

Wonderful trip to Helsinki - Tallinn. The ship MegaStar is very big and convinient. It takes 2h to reach Tallinn. Ship has 10 floors, shops, cafee, a lot of space to sit, restaurants, 3 floors are dedicated for cars. It has wifi included in the price. Food is expensive. But In overal very good expirience. I recommend it.

Very cheap and good buffets, bars and clubs. Only thing the security guards didn't have much manners but at least they helped when a fight broke out, I understand though doing this every night you would have a short tolerance to bs

Great overnight ferry! A mini cruise on the Baltic. Shows, restaurants, and duty free shopping.

A simple embarkation and disembarkation point for the cruise to and from Stockholm. We alighted here from our cruise from Stockholm. The trams are a short walk away but there are touting for taxis around the terminal, which was kind of intimidating.

Not much activity happening here, just good place to take pictures and a good view of the sea. It has relaxing atmosphere but far from the city center. Good for walks and run.

Sibelius Park. Found time between my long layover for some quick meals and a walk in this famous park with an abstract looking metallic structure which was in honour of a Finnish Composer, Jean Sibelius, entitled Passion Musicae. This park is perfect for a wind down walking before visiting the nearby Cafe Regatta.

Nice park, with apparently resident geese that look and behave similar to (North American) Canadian geese but aren't. Maybe a little less aggressive, but I didn't push it. Had goslings with them when I was there early June. Came to look at Sibelius monument. Monumental. Interesting.

Interesting sculpture and history behind it. We also loved that there was a geocache nearby.

Nice and quiet place in the city. Easily accessible by tram or 30mins walk from the city centre. Kayak and rowboats are available for rent. There's also a cafe near the shore. Very comfortable place for a walk/relax in Helsinki! Would recommend anyone visiting Helsinki to have a relaxing Sunday afternoon here!

At this time of the year (february) i think it's not the most beautiful park. The sculptures are really interesting but nothing special around it.

It’s a modern art. A tribute to the musician. We tried to play the monument, whistle, screamed yelled, tapped etc, nothing sounded like a music 😉

Very beautiful and a must when set is such amazing surroundings. The ground around it is granite so can be slippery if wet.

Such a nice place to relax in the sun! Of course, near to the monument there are lots of tourists. But if you go just a bit further then you can enjoy the water an everything else perfectly. There is also a cute café nearby!

With the prevalence of the COVID, this tourist attraction has been less frequented than usual. However, its glamour has never lost its lust. Especially during this winter with plentier snow than normal, this place has its unique views.

I love this place. The Sibelius monument is beautiful and worth a visit. But I particularly like the surroundings, a beautiful beach opposite to the monument, lovely cafes, ice cream pop ups in the summer and the park to walk around. You can also rent a scooter to go around the park (when there is no snow of course). It's a pretty place to just hang around and is my definitely one of favourite summer get go in the centre.

Fun for children, may be boring for adults! But what Finland does for its heritage is adorable, there are old trams there, which are very well maintained and presented in the museum.

Free to visit. Tiny museum with caffetteria and many tables. There are six or seven trams, the oldest dating 1980. At the entrance, you stamp the ticket, You can even seat at the driver seat.

It's a lovely place to go with children as there are interactive exhibits, trams that you can get in and lots of information boards for the curious.

History itself is not that greatly explained, but nice atmosphere and fun and tactile place otherwise

Amazing museum! So nice to see how trams were in the past. It's one of those "must go" places. And it's free!

So it is free. You can visit it and you will have a fantastic experience and memories of tram history. Not so much big, you will spend about 15 min. Open every day from 11 till 17.00 p.m.

With free entry for all, there is absolutely no reason not to pop into this lovely old building and check out some history about Helsinki's public transport system. Go sit in an old tram and time-travel a bit!

Free museum, interactive. Quite small and fast to go through. Good for a pass-by. I wish there was a minature train going on tracks, i think that would be cool to watch!

Very nice place for any fan of public transportations! I discovered there how the tramway (and metro) network of Helsinki evolved with years. It was also very nice to see different real tramways, and especially one that was moved by horses! 🤩 The museum is small but is worth visiting (and it's free!). A must do if you like tramways 😁

Lucky we found this place. It's not detailed in any guides we saw. We found out about it from a list of attractions from our hotel that would be open during the Christmas and New Year period. Very small but detailed with interactive displays and old trams that you can access. The receptionist was very friendly and informative. It's wheelchair accessible but you may not be able to get on the old trams.

Lovely little museum which has no entrance fee. The museum shop offers nice souvenirs.

Lovely, free exhibition about the history of trans in Helsinki. The museum is small, and you probably wouldn't need to spend more than 30-45 minutes there, but it's definitely worth a visit

Compact museum with wide variety of tram cars since horse-powered trams beginning of last century. One of the most lovely children museum. Belongs to city group of free museums. You can enter in half of trams. Fully acceptable for low mobolity groups.

First experience of being on a cruise! Didn't even realize it had docked, its so smooth. Also we were fortunate enough to see the amazing Northern lights

The best way to travel across the Baltic Sea from Tallin to Helsinki with a ferry all for €21,90. If you want a window seat, arrive early! It's first-come, first to choose. It was a bit windy, but I got to enjoy the view from the lower decks. Highly recommend checking in online before scanning your QR code when boarding.

A must have for tourists in Helsinki! Cruise to Tallinn was really beautiful, entertaining (there is a lot of activities to do on ship - bars, restaurants, tax free shops, casino etc.), it was a really nice adventure :) - our ferries were MS Gabriella and Viking XPRS. Two way tickets costs approx 40 euro for two adults, so the price was really cheap.

I've been using Viking, quite a bit. It's the cheapest line in the route between Helsinki and Tallinn, but you must be on the lookout for the deals to get the best price. The staff is mostly Finn's now, so may not speak Estonian and Russian. English is well understood though. The trip itself takes a bit more than 2 hours. There is usually enough room to find a seating area, some have outlets to charge your devices. There is a wi-fi, it's free, but it's rarely working, so don't rely on that. You can find a few spots to eat, the Buffet is the cheapest compared to competition but it's also provides less value for your $, still it's worth it I believe. The breakfasts buffet lasts for a lot longer than the dinner one, so beware 😄 There is also a deli where you can buy a burger or hot/cold food by the weight. I say go with a burger, their food by weight is overpriced for what you get, and you can get a surprise after the final price is revealed 😥 If you're looking for breakfast, my go-to is oatmeal. It's filling and cheap ! There is also a shop onboard, but there isn't anything really special.

Ship left 10 min before time, spent time outside, lots of seating space. Ship arrived on time and had a great walking tour of the old city. Return trip was even better, enjoyed time with afternoon sun on level 7 back deck. Also bought some chocolates from duty free ship, quite cheap. Saw locals buying loads of drinks from this shop, must be great deals. Anyone has a day to spare, do make this day trip from Helsinki 😀

A good and economical cruise line in the country used the services twice ,on out trip to Sweden and Estonia, helpful staff and good restaurants

The ship is clean, it departs and arrives on time. I had a small cabin and it was clean and comfortable. I payed for the breakfast buffet, but i wouldn't do it again, they have a lot of variety but it's not tasty.

Taken the overnight Cinderella Viking Line from Stockholm to Helsinki ✅ Duty free store sells large variety of skin care + alcohol. LArge ship with 3 restaurants, spa area (have to pay additional), clubs and bars, and children entertainment area ❌They don’t say anything over the speaker phone in English and when I went to the information desk for English information I was pointed towards the display to go look at it myself which only displayed which bands or DJs were playing at what time The boat was a bit crowded, not enough seats on the sun deck. Room was not clean, particularly the bathroom.. the wall paper was also peeling off the wall. There are no water stations Also have to pay extra for kids activities such as mini golf

I could not get to my boat on time because of transportation not running, uber canceling, etc on Independence Day. However, the employee was so helpful to find me another trip at another company and help me get there on transportation.

It was such a great first time experience onboard a ship. Viking line service is relatively affordable compared to other ship/ferry services within the Baltic region. The ship had stores for shopping, a bar, restaurant, lounge, several luggage areas, conference rooms and the sun deck. You can literally walk around the entire ship, have a drink or a meal and things onboard are relatively cheap too. Passengers bought a lot of items onboard as well. Really loved the experience. Getting the ticket is also easy as long as you do the online check in to get your QR code prior to departure.

Had a great travel from Helsinki to Tallin for a very fair price of 20€ p.p.

It is fun to travel with kids. The website is not so well designed and built. The booking system is confusing. The cruiser from Turku to Stockholm is newer and fresher. The time on the shore was too short for us. Not enough to do anything except eating a lunch.

The worst car logistics that ever created by any company. You just can wait to be about an hour to go 200 meters. Few years ago this situation was better. Tallink and Eckero is faster

I spent one of the most beautiful three nights of my life with my husband🥰. It was our wedding gift. It was full of love and romance. We recorded unforgettable memories☺️.

For the money you pay you get what you expect a small to medium sized boat that has everything you need for the trip. If like to party they have that possibility. And so much more. Also the boat trip itself went by real easy without any problems.

10/10 recommend a visit and also purchase a ticket to enter the houses and everything. It's been terribly fascinating to see all the houses and to see how people back then lived like. There are also many very kind and friendly people who have answers to pretty much everything you could ask about the houses and everything connected to them. On top of that, the whole area is just absolutely peaceful and perfect to sit around and enjoy nature with a little drink and snacks. This was certainly one of my favorite places during my visit in Helsinki.

Amazing location to enjoy the nature and a walk. I wouldn’t say that it need buy ticket if you dont plan to go into those area where ticket is required. You can walk around for free but cannot go into those houses (which is only a few), I’d definitely come back here again in fall or winter. It must be very beautiful.

Great place. You can walk around the island, enjoy a picnic, and grilling if you would like. There are parking places even a bit farther from the entrance where you may park for free for up to 4 hours. The public toilets are clean. I highly recommend it with kids, it is also accessible with a stroller/wheelchair.

This is a great open air museum. The exhibitions and buildings are really good but the people who are working there are awesome. Ask them a few questions and you will hear great stories. Really worth the trip and the tiny beds made me laugh a lot

Such beautiful place to know about old Finnish traditions and way of living. As an Indian I found many similarities with our lifestyle in any Indian village. The concept on museum in Open-Air is interesting and refreshing .The surrounding is full of natural beauty. The trees, park and waterfront, the whole landscape is so enjoyable and relaxing. I visited in Autumn lucky in a very sunny day. Had an awesome experience and some amazing pics. For lunch, you can enjoy the tasty baked potato (uuni peruna) in cafe Antti Farmstead cafe. Really good place to visit in Summer or Autumn.

Make sure you ask how many buildings are open and how many rooms in those buildings are open! Right now it’s mostly closed, but they were really nice about giving me a refund when I realized how limited the exhibits were. Most of it is visible from the outside and it’s free to walk around. I highly recommend a visit to the island, and the bottomless salmon soup and buttered bread at the cafe!

Fantastic museum where you get to learn about old Finnish life and history. Do yourself the favour of buying a ticket so you can enter the houses. There are guides who will answer all your questions you may have about a specific house. They speak perfect English.

I fell in love with Seurasaari! The open-air museum is definitely worth a visit for the price! Very interesting to go inside the houses and see and feel how people used to live. The people that work there are open to a lot of questions and can tell you a lot of amazing stories, I recommend talking to them! Besides the museum, Seurasaari is a beautiful island. During easter you can go see the bonfires and I recommend walking around more to enjoy the nature. I have never seen so many squirrels in one day! At night, pick a cozy spot and stay to watch the amazing sunsets of Helsinki!

Seurasaari is an open air museum, where old buildings from around Finland have been relocated to preserve them and to create an outdoors museum experience close to Helsinki city center. There is no entrance fee. Many people go there to walk or jog, we took our dog there for a walk. In the summer time you can barbecue, swim at the naturalist beach or other parts of the island, visit their cafes or take part in many kinds of fun activities organised there for kids and adults alike.

A nice place I go with my dog for photo-walks. It gives me a ncie feeling, even in the wintertime

Large historical open-air museum located on an island. Access via a historical old wooden bridge with wonderful views of the sea and the coast. There is a lot to visit, so you should plan enough time. If you have any questions, the very friendly and knowledgeable staff will be happy to help. There are enough parking spaces at the entrance in front of the bridge. The open-air museum can be easily reached from downtown Helsinki by public bus in about 20 minutes. We look forward to our next visit.

Its a ancient village beside Baltic sea in a beautiful forest. Its free for all. But if you see the in of houses , collect a ticket. price 10 eu.

Great view into the lives of Finnish people from the past few centuries. There is a really wide variety of homes that are very well preserved and showcase how people lived in the past. The park is really well laid out and also offers some nice views of Helsinki and the waters around it. Allow about 2-3 hours for a visit.

Excellent market. But under rated with tourists but you can find everything here without being packed with tourists. This is where locals go. Shops are nice, people friendly.
