The place outside the Cathedral is too crowded and noisy that it is less possible for us to breath. The place is so beautiful and inside of the cathedral is calm and quiet. The art works are extremely brilliant. It would be better to go during the day time especially when it is sunny, so that you can enjoy the colorful glass paintings inside the cathedral.

One of the most mesmerizing pieces of architecture I’v seen in my life. The details, the size, the view, the history and the beauty are all immaculate. I came to cologne on a business trip and on my last day I decided to explore the city and it was the best decision ever and later I read about the cathedral and its history. You can go to the other side of the river to take some nice photos as well. Also note that if you want to get inside the cathedral you’ll have to go between 10:00 and 17:00 on weekdays. The love bridge is also near by which will give you a nice view of the cathedral and the river.

Located in the heart of cologne, right next to the train station. This cathedral is so magical and the view is breathtaking. Would suggest early hours to avoid the crowd. Also there are some relaxing places outside the cathedral. Beautiful at night with lights on. This is also under one of the UNESCO world heritage sites.

One of the biggest and the most beautiful cathedrals I have ever been to! You can easily go there by trains as it is located next to the train station. Inside the cathedral, there are many beautiful stained glass windows and I really liked the statues. No entry fee but there are a lot of visitors.

Amazing construction, the heart of Koln. It's the most visited attraction of Germany. You can visit it for free. If you want to go up in the tower you need to climb 533 stairs and pay 6 euros (adult). The view is wonderful.

Amazing Cathedral to see, right in the heart of Cologne. The view is tremendous from all sides on the outside - you'll have no issue spotting the tall spires, and as you close in you'll notice all the magnificent detail in the architecture. You can enter inside (check hours), however, you can't bring in any large bags; and be vigilant of any masses taking place.

A remarkable work of architecture that is difficult to fully absorb without being in front of it. There are many details worth appreciating when standing close; but it’s when you step back that you can feel the immense scale of the work. Incredible - and a lot of fun to look at while visiting the Christmas market, if you are here in the winter.

I highly recommend taking some time to visit "The Dom!" The architecture and craftsmanship that went into that structure are astounding. If you're up for it, climb The Dom and then let your legs rest inside as you take in all the beauty within. Buy the guidebook in the gift shop so you can read more about the artwork and specific features as you're taking it all in. It's a beautiful piece of history to behold.

Huge cathedral in cologne It was the first time in this city and really enjoyed walking around and seeing so many interesting places and of course this cathedral I couldn’t had it in one flame and also couldn’t had it without the crowd. Entrance to Cathedral is free. In front of is the line for security check only. Place is the highest and built with so many details you must visit and see. Inside is possible to light a candle and pray, there is enough space to get peace from tourists for a few minutes. Overall, amazing.

Amazing and breathtaking, a true feat of human engineering. Free entry into cathedral proper, but small fee if you want to climb the tower (~500 steps) or explore the treasury. Main church has plenty to see and its easy to relax and enjoy the organ every so often. Mass is available quite frequently. Such a beautiful and impressive church! Definitely worth a trip to see!

I loved the feeling of tranquility and security inside the cathedral. However, it is also quite imposing. What surprised me the most was the catacombs part. Cologne Cathedral is beautiful, amazing building. It is 157 m tall and the world’s third largest Gothic-style cathedral with 10,000 square metres of windows and 20,000 visitors daily. A lot of people want to take a picture of it so always is crowded in front of cathedral, but it's worth it.

I visited Cologne for Christmas 2023 and it was a great experience. There were a lot of tourists, big crowds, and there was a Christmas bazaar around the cathedral. This cathedral is my second favorite place in Germany, so I highly recommend everyone to visit it. It's huge size cathedral, look so amazing by night

What an impressive building it is! Beyond imagination. I was blown away and someone even played the organs. Thank you for that. I just do not understand why they decided to build a railway station and a two lane road by the cathedral.

Climbed to the top of the cathedral. One stair case for both up and down and over 500 steps on a narrow spiral staircase. Not for the unfit or people scared of tight spaces. However once at the top the views were amazing

This was the first cathedral we went to on our visit to Germany. As we came out of the DB station , the cologne cathedral standing in front looked heavenly... It was a sight which has remained with me till date, the beautiful architecture of the Cathedral along the hotel spaces with the rhine river bridge along it looked mesmerizing... The interior of the church looks beautiful. There is a provision to go till the top through stairs and it gives a birds eye view of Cologne city 🌆 The cafes around are a cherry on top, just take a cup of a drink and enjoy the intricacies of the architectural beauty 😍

We visited the cathedral during the week. Once out of the train station you see the cathedral just outside. Take the opportunity to cross the bridge to the other side of the river and go to the view point. For a small fee you have spectacular views of all the city.

The scale of this place impresses me each time I visit. It's an incredible work of art and history. 300 years to build. It would be amazing if restorations were able to occur more quickly to remove more of the black from the exterior. It's truly amazing!

I thoroughly enjoyed going through the museum and learning the history of chocolate and how it’s made, processed, and used across the world and different cultures. Coolest part is seeing the chocolate actually made right in front of you through different steps. You even get to click a button that pops out the chocolate that was just cooled/made. Definitely worth the visit here in Cologne!

The place is great! A must visit tourist attraction in Cologne. The place is mostly crowded on the weekend and the getting a ticket there might become a big challenge. The place is located right at the heart of the city so it’s easily accessible but parking is a problem, the place doesn’t have its own parking, need to use nearby parking places and walk to the museum. The place has lot of history and future plans for chocolate industry, also the making of chocolate. A whole floor is dedicated for chocolate making and you can see how chocolate bars are made by looking at the working machines. There is also small chocolate outlet to get chocolates and souvenirs from the museum.

Very informative museum, plus free samples! Easy to get tickets as they were issued in 15minute increments. Loved the history and the ways so many countries contribute to chocolate manufacturing. Plus great to see chocolate making in action!! Cafe was a nice atmosphere after wandering; crepes were divine!!

I would not say that this is a must visit on your trip to Cologne. Also with entry ticket at at EUR 14 per adult, the place is a bit expensive. We went to the place as a family with our four year old son. The place gives information on chocolate processing, and one can find live chocolate production happening at the place. You can taste the freshly made chocolate, if you buy tickets to the museum. Overall the place is OK, If you are on a leisurely trip to Cologne, you may visit the place.

Nice place to have an idea about how the 'Lindt' chocolates are made. Very nice place to take children for their level of excitement. Especially nice to see the different types of process throw which chocolates are made. It's one of a kind experience. Not to forget and miss the free sample tasting of chocolate wafers provided. The museum is not so big and the whole tour takes about 1-1,5 h. It's good to come in the morning as it isn't crowded. To avoid waiting in the line, I would recommend buying the tickets earlier via the website. In the museum you can see a lot of information about each step of chocolate production. Actually you will get an answer to all kinds of questions about chocolate. Inside there is a small production line which is very interesting. In the end, you may taste a fresh piece of chocolate or try something sweet from the chocolate fountain. This is definitely a place worth visiting however the price of the ticket could be a bit lower.

It was one of my super nice experiences. The museum gives us all the details of the chocolate 🍫, the history of the owner, and where the farms of the company are. You can bay also pay one Euro to planting one coco tree 🌳

Reasonably priced and really enjoyable for people of all ages. Explains where the raw ingredients come from, transport, production (the smell is superb), marketing and sustainability to name a few. Free chocolate along the way including the chocolate fountain, and be sure not to miss the cafe afterwards, the staff everywhere were nice but my server in the cafe in particular was great. Gift shop not silly money either for the quality you’re buying. A must visit!!!

Really sweet experience! They give some free Lindt chocolate when you enter, good for some sugar rush as you explore the museum. You can try some free chocolates at various chocolate stations. You get to see the process of making chocolate and you’ll also see some robotic machinery they use now. If you come in after 5pm, they have a ticket sale, since they close at 6pm. The chocolates in the store are also priced well.

Really interesting factory museum. I thought they did a nice job including a wide array of interests/considerations to include some relating to fair trade and global warming concerns in the chocolate industry. Lots to look at, you could spend half a day here for sure. Loved the shop, plenty to buy there. One of the coolest things was that you have the opportunity to have a custom chocolate bar made right in front of you!

Fun for the entire family. I think particularly those with children would do themselves a disservice by not going to this place. But even those who would perhaps have a grey hair more than they would like are still going to find something fun and educational in the visit. The tour is well laid out and you get great views of the city . Its a well spent time in Cologne.

I love chocolate, especially lindt! Complimentary chocolate on arrival was happily received, then an interesting history of cocoa until the best part, the chocolate fountain and factory section. Samples of the liquid chocolate are handed out, I could've stayed in that section the whole time! I wasn't too bothered about the rest of the museum other than the complimentary chocolates upon leaving. The shop had an amazing selection too. Busy on weekends

A beautiful and charming museum. Gives you a nice background about the chocolate making, manufacturing and distribution process. You also get free chocolates! You can also get a chocolate from freshly prepared chocolate. If you want you can also make your own customized chocolate bar. It takes almost 2-3 hrs to roam around the museum. Do not forget to get chocolates from the shop below😄.

We visited the Lindt chocolate Museum recently. We were thrilled to attend the fine tasting session. The narrator gave us an complete overview of the chocolate processing and we had an opportunity to taste some of the products during the process like from the coco beans, coco butter to final stage of finished chocolate. Highly recommend to get an online booking specially during weekend. We saw really huge line on Saturday luckily we had our session booked. Good for kids.

Buy tickets in advance online. Go early, when the museum opens to avoid the crowds. I enjoyed that they showed the entire journey of a chocolate bar. Even showing things like shipping and market share of different brands. Even though I was there on a Sunday there were lots of staff in the chocolate factory showing off their craft which was great to see. The museum also had a history part, detailing things such as chocolate during the wars. So in summary, the museum really has a bit of everything and of course the opportunity to taste the chocolate. I would recommend a visit if in Cologne. Also, if you are there during December the Christmas market in front of the museum was one of the less crowded markets.

It is a well designed museum with a lot happening there. As many others recommended, buy your ticket well in advance and if you're interested in a tour (I highly recommend one) buy it way way in advance. I booked the short course (30 min) that gave an overview of different stages of production with tasting (Yes! we tried a bean!). It was worth the extra 2.5 EUR for sure and was not too long. There's a green house with chocolate and banana trees that have fruits! I recommend going there if you're in Köln. Definitely one of the best things to do there.

Visiting this museum was one of the best decisions I made when I was in Cologne, Germany. During the tour there are different exhibitions that explain everything from the origin of chocolate, to the way it is processed and obtained, as well as its commercial distribution. The tour is very entertaining, and the best thing is that they give free chocolate samples. Although the price could be considered somewhat high, I think it is totally worth it.

A great place to arrive and depart. This station is located in the middle of everything. There is the famous Cathedral, history, a museum and lots of shopping areas with restaurants. A short walk & you can walk beside the River or across the bridge .

Iconic landmark of great architecture building that well maintained n fully operated by days. Since it belong working from decades ago, i truly love the design n it was never out of date construction. The station looks clean enough n di outside of platform there's many stores like other Mall in the city center. You can find food n drink too. Near the station, just walking distance, there's main hall n one of the icon tallest building of koln, koln cathedral, that so extremely amazing n artsy design by its exterior. The city hall was so huge, lot of people hanging around this public space.

Problem with trains in Germany is that they’re always delayed way beyond scheduled time. While the station itself is beautifully located besides the Cologne Cathedral but it becomes very frustrating at times.

Köln Hauptbahnhof… I arrived there at 3.15 am and different shops were open, I felt very safe and there was also a lot of police around. The famous Cologne Down was just next door, a real eyecatcher and worth the visit while being there. The train was on time and the facilities are beyond what you would expect from other so called stations, next time I’ll certainly opt again to travel from Köln, Cologne in English onwards as it’s probably the best ever station I spend time in, even when I returned, a lot of trains were available! TOP!

Central station for the city of Köln (Cologne), it is one of the busiest rail stations in Germany. It is quite large and I got to explore it a bit today thanks to a delay by the wonderful folks at Deutsche Bahn. My tip to you is that if you do have an extended layover here, use the luggage storage for your suitcases and step outside. You'll find the tremendous Kölner Dom that is worth photographing and touring. I did not have THAT much time so it was pictures only today. The train station has coffee (including Starbucks, yuck), pastries, lots of restaurants, restrooms, a waiting lounge if your train ticket includes that service, car rentals, ATMs and yes, the Ibis hotel.

Clean station and typical one with platforms at elevated level and common passage below. Lot of eatery and restaurant to grab food on the go. Exiting the station can see the Cathedral just right in front.

Köln is a large train station, well maintained and has necessary shops & items available on site. Building is next to the iconic Cologne Cathedral.

Not my favorite train station in Germany but it is a major transportation hub and I have ended up using it every now and then! Lately it hs become a home for many homeless people and while securing try to do their job, you often end up seeing conflicts and suspicious individuals walking by. Be aware of pickpocketing, there are entire groups strolling around.

It’s in the center of everything. Big enough for everything, shopping, dining more than enough restaurants and definitely many destinations nationwide or internationally you can use. Neighbor of Kölner Dom and high street shops. It has a big square in front of it even for watching and taking some time while you’re waiting it would be useful.

Very busy train station in Germany 🇩🇪, parked our suitcases in a depot, easy to operate system. 6 € for 1 case for 24 hours, not bad . Spend 5 hours in Cologne and continued our journey to Brussels.

Without question, this is certainly one of the best zoos I have ever been to. The animals have big habitats and lots of space, with the ability to disappear from public view if they feel like it. This zoo is home to so many animals, and I was impressed to see that they even harbor a rare breed like the snow leopard. They offer multiple opportunities to stop for food and drinks, from small food stands selling fries and icecream to a restaurant offering multiple lunch options, cold as well as hot drinks, and dessert. Benches are scattered all throughout the zoo, meaning if you want to sit down and just admire the animals or simply take a break, you always can. As I implied at the beginning, this zoo is rather huge. Therefore I would advise you to plan accordingly for the entire day. There is just too much to see, and you simply can’t cover all of it in two hours. My stay lasted for about six hours. Also, please note that the bird show is closed during winter season. To summarize this review, I had a great day here and I absolutely loved it. If you are contemplating on visiting this zoo, I can only highly recommend it.

Very nice zoo, animals look like they are cared for with love. Only downside was that there were only 2 restaurants open in the zoo, with 30+ degrees. Would be better to have more places to be able to drink or sit with hot weather.

Visited Sunday when many places in Germany are closed. Easy walking distance of the centre (just walk up the river for ease). Reasonably priced, not huge, but good selection of animals including small aquarium and very well laid out. I particularly liked how the locals stick to the main route and direction so not fighting against the foot traffic. Signs perhaps a little lacking in English but is a German zoo.

Nice city zoo. Some of the exhibits are wide and new, others seem old-fashioned. It's compact, as most city zoos are. The nicest exhibits are the huge elephant exhibit, the primates, and the hippodom(e).

One of the best zoos we have been to. The admission fee was reasonable and under the bridge, right across the street from the entrance, is a bunch of parking that was only 5 euro. We enjoyed the sea lion show, we were amazed at how well they could catch frisbees and balance balls. The food inside the zoo was also reasonably priced. The zoo got a little crowded, but that is to be expected on a Saturday.

A really great zoo garden. There is a vast array of animal species housed within the zoo. Cologne Zoo boasts an impressive collection of wildlife from all around the world including reptiles and insects. The whole zoo is really well organized and pleasant to take a walk through. Easy to reach with public transport.

A day is not enough to spend your time here with your loved ones. There is a ticket counter so you don't have to worry incase you didn't book it in advance. The train station is directly infront of the place so it is easily accessible. There are different places allocated to the animals according to their place of origin or their environment so it is exciting to go from one to another and spend your time. There are coffee shops in between and also restrooms available. Highly recommend to go early and spend your quality time there. You can also take snacks inside and get a picture clicked as a souvenir.

Great for a day's activity, lots of animals to see, including a petting zoo, an aquarium and insectarium. Kids' playgrounds look good; there are restaurants (fast-food - not the best value for money) and vending machines. So maybe pack a lunch & bring your own water/beverages if you don't want to spend more on food than the entry tickets for the day. Friendly staff. Overall, would recommend.

The zoo was packed on a Saturday. The aquarium seemed like a after thought. Definitely not worth a visit if you are on a tight schedule. For such a large zoo, it seemed kinda empty ( animals wise) For my students here you are able to get some discount just show your student card. Any card will do as long it has your face

Köln Zoo is a captivating blend of biodiversity and excellent maintenance efforts. With over 10,000 animals representing diverse species, it offers an educational and engaging experience for everyone. My children love it! Special attractions like the elephant park, the giraffes, all monkeys, the rainforest, etc. are real highlights. While some areas might get crowded, the overall atmosphere is vibrant. A commendable destination for nature enthusiasts and families in Köln.

One of the best zoos I’ve ever been to. Very clean and quiet place to spend time with family and friends. Saw capybara for the first time and love it!

We have been there in a public holiday. Even there was a huge crowd,everything was reachable and doable. We think that it is too long to walk without any stop and rest. It would be better to take 1 full day for the zoo. Most of the animals look happy and menthally healthy. We really like to spend time with a sloth without cage or barrier ,,full of intraction

It is difficult to clearly evaluate a visit to this Zoo. On the one hand, it is large, but on the other it seems empty in terms of development. On the one hand, there are beautifully decorated "jungles" in several buildings, on the other hand, the outside area itself is rather gray and ugly. For part of the visit you seem to see more plastic animals than real ones, and for the next part you see animals in much greater numbers than in other Zoos. For example, a huge number of Elephants and various monkeys. In many places there is practically no visibility, but there are places where animals seem literally within reach. And this Zoo is full of such unequal aspects. The price also seems to be a bit high compared to what other zoos in the area offer, with cheaper tickets. Overall, it is worth a visit here, but there are definitely better options within 60 km.

Great zoo tons to see. They have season theme Xmas light and decor which is lovely. The room with the monkeys among you actually are in there with them! Worth going.

I read the reviews and almost skipped this place but gave it a go and thoroughly enjoyed it. I spent a full day exploring the place. Could easily and happily spend the day there from opening until closing. The feeding times and shows were all on (except otters) Signage in English was limited but not an issue. Food and drink inside the place was somewhat expensive but there are nearby shops to stock up for the day.

My visit to Cologne Zoo in 2014 was an enjoyable and memorable experience that left me impressed with the wide variety of animals and the overall layout of the zoo. It offered a great day out for families and nature enthusiasts, but a few minor improvements could have made it an even better experience. The diversity of animal species at the zoo was impressive, and I appreciated the efforts made to create natural and spacious enclosures for the animals. It was evident that the zoo's staff cared for the animals' well-being and conservation, which added to the experience. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the elephant enclosure. Watching these majestic creatures up close was a mesmerizing experience and one that I will cherish. Additionally, the tropical rainforest section was a treat, offering a glimpse into the lush habitats of various exotic species. However, some areas of the zoo seemed slightly outdated and in need of renovation. The signage and information boards were not as informative or interactive as I would have liked, making it harder to fully understand the animals' backgrounds and conservation efforts. Despite these minor drawbacks, Cologne Zoo is a commendable attraction, providing a fun and educational experience for visitors of all ages. With a bit of modernization and enhanced informational displays, it has the potential to become an even more exceptional destination for wildlife enthusiasts and families seeking a day of animal-filled adventure.

I was pleasantly surprised by the zoo. I especially enjoyed the areas where animals are free roaming, I had small monkeys jumping around me, and could get really close to some of the birds. Watch out for animal feeding times and the bird show. Buy tickets online before entry, the queue was long when we were leaving.

I definitely recommend doing this when in cologne! You get a great view for 5€ a person. Can see all of the great sights of cologne and also has nice visuals on top to tell you what building is what

Amazing view of the city from the top of this building. You can buy the ticket at the entrance for just €5 per person. They have an elevator that takes you directly to the 28th floor, then you need to climb another flight of stairs to reach the observation deck. They did have another wheelchair accessible elevator, but I'm not sure if it takes you all the way up to the deck. The view of the city was definitely great, you can make out most of the prominent landmarks from the top. Highly recommend this if you've got the time.

It is the best location to take pictures for Cologne Dom! You will have an amazing view of the whole city. Face mask is needed. No need to book.

Best views of Koln for only 5 euros. It is breath taking. If you go at 5 pm when the lights are changing you get stunning pictures of the bridge and the Cathedral. Totally worth it. It has a very fast elevator.

Great view from up, the ticket costs 5€ per adult. You need to take the lift until 24th floor and then take stairs for next two floors. You find yourself up their you will witness a spectacular view of cologne cathedral, the bridge, Rhine river, and rest of the cologne.

This place must be on your to go list. It is actually office building, but on top is observation point surrounded with glass and with open roof. View is perfect, you can see city of Cologne, bridges and Cathedral. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance for symbolic price. Monday - not crowded at all.

You should go at sunset. Here is only 5 euro. You can watch sunset from here and you can see almost whole Cologne.

A very good observation deck that has a 360 view of Cologne. Worth the money, and it also has a toilet right at the top! Worth noting I’m not sure how people in wheelchairs can access the top. They have a lift but you have to then go up more stairs (so worth checking). You’ll probably spend 15 minutes up here max but it is totally worth it!

The best tower to get capture the entire view of the city of Cologne. Need to visit when the weather is clear so that you can see till Bonn. There is not much rush. The ticket charge is 4€ for students and 5€ for adults. The ticket counter is at the ground floor of the building after which a lift takes you to 26th floor. 360 degree view is possible. If you have a professional camera, then it's a real worth for a visit.

Beautiful space and easy access, just 2 minutes walk from the famous Cologne Cathedral. You might need 3-4 hours to cover the whole 3 floors of the exhibition space. They also commit to sustainability and try to integrate it into many aspects-operation, program, and building. The museum restaurant is also very high quality. Absolutely love the time spent there

If you only have the time for one museum while in Cologne, this is the one. I find it to be one of the world's leading museums for modern and contemporary art. At this time, early 2024, there are a couple of most interesting separate exhibitions advertised on the walls of the building. I love this museum of modern art! Great collection of Picasso, really cool Pop-art part, you can find also Rothko, Kandinsky, Dali, Malevich, Otto Dix, Warhol and many others. You need at least 3-4 hours to see all. There is free admission every first Thursday of the month for those who is registered in Cologne (Anmeldung required)

Excellent modern art collection in great architecture. We liked the cafe as well, it’s possible to have a drink and hop back into your visit. Terraces are great to catch a view over the dome and get some fresh air. Basement has changing collection. All together great place for a 3-4 hour visit, highly recommend.

Excellent collection and stellar curation; keeping the Haubrich collection together in one place was fascinating. Pop art collection was surprisingly big, highly recommend "Portable War Memorial" as featured in a lot of the pictures on here. There's an exhibition on 20th Century Ukranian art at the moment which was also cool, very good recontextualisation of artists thought of as "Russian", and some cool illustrations made for Ukranian theatre.

Super nice museum to visit if you're interested in pop art and many pieces of Picasso. Very spacious so plenty of room to walk around. Also today wasn't really crowded so everything was easy to see and information could all be read at a leisurely speed. You can spend up to three hours here easily.

Very close to the Cologne central railway station. Good collection of different types of arts and well presented. Lockers provided and get a free car d to operate the lock. Toilets available on the foyer. Caffe is inside the museum section just after the entrance. Takes about 2-3 hours depending on how fast you want to move. Exhibits are on 4 levels and lifts are available.

Although I’m not a huge fan of modern art, I enjoyed this place so much. A lot of themes you can enjoy, especially I loved the “In Situ” temporary exhibition!

Amazing collection, beautiful building. The museum Ludwig houses mostly modern art, including pop art, Dadaist work, expressionist work, and others. It’s an impressive collection and well curated. The building is skylit and spacious, making for a pleasant and easy walk through.

Lovely museum and quite cheap access. Excellent way to get out of the rain and see some modern art as well as taking some lovely pictures. Went on Easter Monday and it wasn’t too busy, no need to pre-book just turn up!

If you love art, you must come to this place. It's just next to the Dom and the Cologne Central Station. Watching all the works here takes about 3 hours (special exhibition included). You can deeply feel the emotion behind these works even if you don't know the artists. After leaving, you can go to the riverbank and also take cruises & boat tours, that would be a wonderful day.

Really enjoyed the exhibition. Lots of work from German artists, allowing you to learn about the origins of various art movements and German history alongside it! Not overly fussed about Picasso, but so many interesting works from a multitude of artists, as well as a few areas to make your own art.

An incredible Art gallery. We are huge fans of 20th century art of all kinds so thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Warhol, Lichtenstein, Rothko, Macke, Picasso, Delaunay, Mondrian, Braque, the list goes on. Amazing building as well. Only 12 Euro entry, and free lockers. Plenty of good toilets. Good gift and bookshop.

They have amazing art collection and the museum is very easy to navigate. Not too crowded and well-lit. It's a nice place to kill time while waiting for your train departure. The Picasso and Dali collection is worth the visit, trust me!

One of my favorite museums in the world, ML has a wonderful collection of modern and contemporary art, including German Expressionism and Russian Avantgarde works. I was glad to catch the retrospective of works by Füsun Onur, which I enjoyed tremendously.

It is one of the best places to learn about nazi history. It can take easily 3 hours if you listen to each audio clip in the audio guide so I would highly suggest you come with some time. The most striking part of the museum is the prison in the basement. Give some time to the prison to just empathize.

There is a lot of information here, in fact I think too much! The audio guide is good but there is so much packed inside that you have to do the tour really slow if doing with the guide. The guide is not needed for the basement prison cell level as that level has English signs. Sad place to visit.

Lots of valuable history to be learnt in this place. Audio guide is very well put together and is recommended because the written information is mainly in German language. Place is easy to find. Recommend spending between 1-2 hours here.

Painfully interesting experience that every human being should have. I recommend you to start with the basement even though you have 2 hours to do the whole tour because It is the most touching part due to the actual demonstration of the inhumane conditions in which prisoners were living. (the writings on the walls are devastating). I also recommend you to pay 2 extra euros and listen to the audio tour, especially if you don't read German.

From the street, it looks like an ordinary building, but how many secrets it keeps inside. I recommend to visit and to see the scratches on the walls. Hundreds of people were executed there. Hope, never again. Minuses of the visit: The top two floors are only represented in German, and payment is in cash only.

Haunting. The EL-DE Haus is a haunting reminder of the horrors perpetrated by the Gestapo. Allow half a day to go through this museum. Despite being small in size, it contains a lot of rooms with displays and plaques to read. Also, it gets quite busy and large school groups will slow down progress through the exhibits. The audio guide is worth getting.

Highly recommended. Give yourself some time to do this museum justice. It's very painful, moving and humbling. This was the headquarters of the gestapo. Upstairs is a step by step walk through the history of the rise of the nazis. Downstairs is what was the prison with notes left on the walls by the poor souls that were kept there. Make sure you go out into the courtyard. The audio headsets have the tour available in English. Nearly all the signs are in German which was challenging for us.

Very shocking and impressive! I arrived late and it closes at 18h00, so I had a quick visit for 1 hour but its definitely not enough, I would suggest for 2-3 hours, there are many details to see. Only cash accepted to buy the ticket and prepare 1 euro if you want to use the locker.

Good place to visit and to know more the story of cologne. The price is affordable (4,50€ + 2€ for the audio guide if you don’t speak German) and you can spend hours inside with all the information available. It is shocking to go to the lower floors where there were the bunker and some cells. Everyone should visit it!

House of horror! Informative museum with audio guides! The basement with cells are chilling, with names and dates scratched in the prison walls by inmates..

This museum / memorial is totally interesting and informational. My wife and I took the audio guide and even with 4h we listened only half of all. So I recommend to start by the underground prison and after go to the first level. Also recommend to jump one or other audio so you can appreciate the entire path.

Amazing museum! Easily spent 2.5h inside and could have spent more. A lot of information, great visuals. For 4.5 euro ticket and 2 euro audio guide in english, it is a bargain! Must take the audio guide since very few displayed infos are in english, mostly is german.

The gestapo HQ and prison. Its a very heavy experience walking within the building as they have kind of kept the maintenance to its original state. You can seemed to hear the screams and feel the fear from this place.

I am at awe with the architectural inspirations of the buildings around. Very European feel and the crowd around during a sunny day is festive and fun. I like the hustle and bustle of both locals and tourists alike.

This review is way overdue, but someone said it's "better than never." Since Christmas season has come and gone for 2021-22, I'm finally picking up a pen (though a virtual one it might be) and writing this down. All the Cologne Christmas markets (perhaps with one exception--City Park Markt was not that great with disorganized area and just a minimal vendors) were very nice indeed. Though this one was not my favorite per se, it was still a very nice one and worthy of a review for sure. Christmas market is a great German Advent/Christmas tradition. It really heightens the Christmas spirit in the land. Even though the atmosphere was a bit dampened by the COVID pandemic for the last couple of years, I'm so glad this one was open. After the announcement of total closure for Bavaria and Saxony in 2021, we were so disappointed for the second year. We searched for any open ones and decided to make a trip to the west Germany/Luxembourg to visit as many markets as we could. We weren't disappointed. We traveled to seven cities/towns and saw at least fourteen separate Christmas markets. Needless to say, it was a very successful weekend trip for us. Just a little down the street from the very impressive Cologne Cathedral Christmas Market, the biggest attraction here in Heinzelmannchen "Helpful Elves" Christmas Market is the ice skating rink. Folks playing curling is very fun to watch, by the way. As the name suggests there are elves all over this market. By comparison there aren't too many vendor booths here besides a very large mulled wine hut (photo). If you are in Germany during Advent/Christmas season, you must visit as many Christmas markets as you can to really enjoy German holidays for sure.

One of the most beautifull weihnachtsmarkten in Köln! The Heinzels Wintermarchen theme is very fairy tale! U can buy lots of stuff, there is even a blacksmith who can make u a horseshoe with initials! Great!

Our guide was extremely open-minded, culturally conscious, and willing to answer all questions regarding the history of his country. He was friendly and funny! We spent most of the morning walking around on a tour with him while he gave us the highlights. Since our ship will be at Port until 10:30 this evening we will definitely take him up on some of his advice about other things he did not stop at on the tour to visit later. Well we have traveled all of the way here from Texas, we have friends in the area and we hope to meet up with them later this evening!

The history of fragrance is so much more interesting than I could’ve ever imagined, and we learned lots of fun facts (and some very strange facts too!) You’ll also get a tiny souvenir bottle of their cologne along with the tour. For only €5 a ticket, it’s great value for your money. Book in advance to make sure you get a spot. We did the general history tour, and we thought it was amazing. We wanted to do the historical costume tour and have heard many good things about it, but there weren’t any of those tours in English today. Photos aren’t allowed in the downstairs part of the tour, but you can still get some very nice ones in the entrance/shop where they sell the cologne. All in all - you can’t go to Cologne and not learn about the history of cologne! So definitely go to Farina’s Cologne Museum during your stay here.

Great little museum that welcomes you into the world of perfumes, and more specifically the first (and real) eau de cologne. Over weekends you get a guided tour by Giovanni Maria Farina himself, which is most informative. The only disappointment was that there is no real time to look at and read the displays, as the tour moved very swiftly. Well worth a visit, but don’t forget to book ahead of time, as the groups are small and easily booked out.

Was good to take the tour! The guide spoke excellent English and the information was interesting yet not dry. We've tried to use our own smell to guess the right sentences.

Loved the birthplace of Eau de Cologne. 😍 I treated myself with an Original and a Tina Farina Jungfrau/Intellect. Both are amazing. I am sad to have missed the guided tour though! 😢 The guided tour price is €9/person which lasts an hour. Seems pretty reasonable 😉 and it conducted in German, English and Chinese.

This is the best museum tour I’ve been to so far in Germany. The Italian guide Louisa is passionate about perfumes and shares the history of Farina in an engaging way. I learnt so much in one hour! Do make tour bookings ahead of time as they may be booked up quickly.

We booked a historic tour (in English - other languages are available) and really enjoyed it. But book in advance - they sell out on popular days/peak times. The shop is well stocked and it is all very reasonably priced. We used the Park and (train) Ride option - it's a good deal, and you are dropped off in the middle of town.

The tour guide ooh maan she was the best, went into her character so funny but the history about the perfume is extraordinary from the start till end you will definitely learn a lot about how to use your nose to smell the ingredients in the perfume and when and how to buy cologne and perfume.The picture i share we got it free a free sample .

I booked a tour in English, and the gentleman 🎩 explained the story behind the de colon. He took us to 1709, when the Italian Farina created the cologne. His perfume "workshop" was on the lower floor, where we were told the story. I recommend this experience 🙌🏻

Interesting tour of the perfume factory. The tour guide was entertaining and informative. He was in character throughout and very quick witted and amusing. It was very helpful to have the tour in English. Thoroughly recommended. Note: no toilets.

Really good place to spend some time walking and enjoying the view of the garden. A palace like building situates at the center of the garden which was closed during my visit. The entry to the garten is free. Safe place for kids to walk and play around there. Recommended to visit in summer time when all the flowers are bloomed.

The weather was bit rainy but the garden was beautiful with awesome flowers :) I was there with my family, we had a hot drink in the main building with nice servise ,they gave blankets because of the weather and the toilet free as well

Lovely and well kept botanical garden. Free entry so i absolutely recommend going on a walk here during your stay in Cologne! Easily accessible from metro or by foot from the centre if you don't mind walking. In the middle there is a small terrace where you can get drinks and snacks.

Nice place to spend your time in summer. There are many banks to sit on to read your books or just to relax. The park is huge and has many parts offering different and beautiful landscapes. Also it's big enough for a long walk for a few hours. In short, it's a really nice place to relax.

Very beautiful botanical garden with free entry to roam around; there's plenty of easy access routes to get in. Some smaller paths leading around the main building and grassy areas, benches. Highly recommended if in the area to enjoy the scenery here, as it's very well maintained.

Very beautiful garden. Highly recommend to visit if you are in Köln. The garden is free and well organized. You can have a relaxing walk inside. It’s not too hot in summer neither because there are trees along with the paths.

Great botanical garden and it’s FREE! There are many places to take pictures within the park or picnic. Be advised it’s a botanical garden and you can’t sit or walk on the grassy areas. There’s plenty of benches to sit on. There’s a nice cafe with small dishes in the main building of the garden if you work up and appetite. We spent about an hour to an hour and a half touring the garden. Right next to the zoo. Easiest way to get three is via the 18 to the Zoo Fauna stop.

I was here with my girlfriend. It’s very close to the Zoo which is another place worth checking out. This garden isn’t very big but it’s lovely. Very serene, a large number of trees, flowers and plants. Highly recommend visiting the herbs garden, it smells amazing. Unfortunately the garden wasn’t fully open because they are renovating but what we did see was very very nice. Plus the little fountain + waterfall is such a nice spot to chill. Did I mention it’s free? 😊

Really beautiful botanical garden, easily reachable with public transport. One of the best places in Cologne to take a walk and enjoy the blooming flowers and vegetation and escape the heat. You can go around some wonderful fountains and lakes because the garden has a good layout for casual walks.

Right behind the zoo (getting off of Bahn 18) This park is huge!! I brought my own picnic... Sadly I wasn't allowed to sit on the grass... But there are more than enough benches to sit throughout the park in the shadows or with plenty of sun. I've spent a few hours here walking around, sitting & enjoying the view, the calmness... If you're lucky you'll find a quiet place to even meditate! Oh yeah it took me some time to find the exit too 🫣

A lovely park with a lush garden and a medieval like hotel / event venue and a cafe with beautiful views. At the cafe they pack a little picnic basket to enjoy when you get hungry while exploring different collections of plants, critters and sculptures 🧺

Although it is not completely open right now (one floor is under construction when I visited) I still really enjoyed it! The first floor is dedicated to old religious paintings. The second floor was my favourite because it had paintings from the baroque period. I particularly enjoyed reading about how paintings are analysed in order to understand how they were painted as well as if they are real.

I found this museum to be a more enjoyable experience compared to the Ludwig Museum. It exudes a sense of tranquility with its focus on 'traditional' art, which felt less overwhelming. While the first floor predominantly showcased Jesus paintings, the second and third floors were truly captivating. Moreover, the museum wasn't crowded, and the comfortable temperature added to the pleasant visit. However, it's worth noting that this might not be an ideal choice for young children!

Pretty Small but good museum. The entrance is kind of Obscure and at the moment there's a lot of construction in the area so the doors are even more obscure. They have a nice collection with a few famous artists: Monet, Manet, Van Gogh (early piece), Renior... It was Amazing to be able to walk around some of their triptychs in the medieval period. The information for the artworks were English friendly! The museum has a QR code for an app you can download but it's not an English friendly app at all. You can't even copy the info to Google translate it. There wasn't much on the app but could have been interesting.

I happened upon this museum, and I'm happy I did. It has three floors (there are wheelchair friendly lifts) of exhibitions, which were very good. All artwork has German and English descriptions, which was helpful, but it would have been even better if I'd been offered an audio option at the start. Lovely little shop at the entrance. €8 entrance fee.

The collection of impressionism ist magnificent and rich. The temporary exhibition "Revolution in Art. 1863 - Paris -1874" is also brilliant. If you love medieval art, this is a must see, along with the Schnütgen. Art of incredible quality, beautifully curated. We were especially blown away by the medieval altarpieces, rescued from secular French revolutionaries! Take time to look at the detail on these masterpieces. But also the Impressionists, etc. Helpful and knowledgeable staff. Small but good cafe, lovely shop. Lift to all floors. Good view of the cathedral from the top floor. Centrally located.

This museum is just AMAZING. I mean, I can partially understand some negative comments about the stuff, BUT this is, first of all, a museum and art. In my opinion, the collection is great, including works of Monet, Sisley, Van Gogh, Signac and many others (with the "Four girls on the bridge" by Munch being my favorite here) . It is made very convenient for visitors to observe the paintings as there are (1) almost no fencing and (2) all descriptions are translated to English.

Loved baroque and 19th century floors. Pity that impressionists are so crowded in one room, some paintings to high on the wall to admire them. Please put these great impressionists in few rooms, give them space.

Here you will find some tour guides that talk so loud that looks like a rave party museum. Can't wait for the exposition by Noisecontrollers. One of them was in a very good mood and started cracking jokes and laughing so hardly that I expected to see the sign up list for the open mic night next to the Birth Of Venus. The floor guards, of course, do not say a thing since they are too busy on talking on the phone or playing Clash Of Clans. You guys are very visible. This museum has a lot of paintings that I studied when I was 15 y.o. and I was very excited too finally observe them as I do everywhere: in pure majestic silence. Thank you for the experience, can't wait to get banned from this place.

This awful modern building, which would look good gracing some 1980s suburban shopping centre, is in fact a treasure house. Inside is the city's stupendous collection of art. Housed on three floors, the first is devoted to medieval, the second to baroque, and the third to the nineteenth century. Dear reader, I entered around 14:00 and did not emerge until 17:00 - and only having done two of the three floors. I do not know any other city collection that has so much medieval art. Cologne is a rich city - and has been rich for centuries. It is also a Catholic city; indeed, its archbishop was one of the seven Electors for the Holy Roman Empire. The city also still possesses a number of Romanesque churches. So, I guess it's no surprise at the richness of its medieval art collection. The huge central room on the medieval floor is devoted solely to triptychs. I didn't think I would spend much time on the baroque floor, since it's not really my period. But then I forgot that it also included the glories of the Dutch Golden Age, as well as the likes of Bellotto and Guardi in Venice. They even have a Joseph Wright of Derby! No guesses, then, where I'll be returning tomorrow to do the final floor. Happy days!

Museum is simply superb. It is not too big, but well structured and has some stunning pieces of art ranging from Middle Ages to XIX century Impressionism. It is well structured, many items have short, useful descriptions.

It’s all about the perfumes and the decor. The exhibition itself was just a display of some of the old collections dating back to the 1900s. Museum is open on just one day for couple hours, ask the staff members for more information on the day of your visit.

Very nice and traditional building with a carillon and a 4711-Fountain. Very friendly and helpful staff. Prices are ok. Very good selection of 4711-Perfums.

Very annoying experience. I bought a lemon and ginger perfume here, but when I came back home and checked it, it turned out to be a different scent. This is because the staff said she would give me a gift-wrapped one. I can't get a refund and it's very annoying. Be more professional.

Nice experience to see where real Eau de Cologne comes from. Prices were okay as well. Would be nice if they turned it more into a museum to learn more about the history, but sales person really explained everything well and in detail too.

Beautiful interior with a nice mini museum on the second floor. Helli was wonderful to talk to and passionate about the history of the brand.

The service was excellent and the shop was absolutely delightful. They even had a running fountain with perfume. The issue I experienced was the overpowering fragrance from the fountain made it impossible for me to smell anything else.

I love cologne as much as I love coffee. Damn near lost my mind in here. Hellie was wonderful and she invited me back at Christmas to shop and enjoy the grand Christmas wreath 💜

Went to see Tool. Good viewing seats in block 625 but the sound mix was to be expected, not optimal. Getting an end of the row seat for a handicapped friend meant a constant stream of guests & security in & out. But the upper blocks mean easier /faster access to food, drinks and toilets (were clean). Will always go again!

Good for hosting events, however if you don't end up with tinnitus at the end due to poor sound management, I'd be highly surprised. Though that could be down to the event management. Good parking possibility, especially the departure was without any traffic jams, golden star achieved for proper infrastructure management. Although for the price of parking the train is cheaper.... Food is extraordinarily expensive, like, renting a house in Amsterdam would be valued similarly. It's just ridiculous. No good word about it. It's not like it's bad food, but for that price I could fly to Barcelona. To compensate I took some liberty with the mayonnaise. Small victory. The seats are okay, viewing is great and infrastructure inside is well established. It's a cathedral alright. Shame they sting you for every cent if you are slightly hungry or thirsty. And yes I'm laying it on extra thick. Like the mayonnaise on me fries. If there's an event going on here, you are in for a party though.

Great Concert performed by Jason Derulo. Nice Lounge and Catering, but some logistic issues with the guests. As always leaving by car is a huge challenge....

The arena itself as a show space is OK but the management is horrible. Nobody speaks English and nobody cares. I had a VIP ticket and nobody help me in the process. Also nobody answer the phone or gave me any information when I went there 1day before the show. And don't blame COVID. This was purely arena's fault.

Great place to see concerts! We were there during the Karnival, nice environment, crazy costumes, fireworks and they allow you to bring food and drink! 🤩

I attented the IEM Cologne at Lanxess Arena, the arena is nice but the organisation is bad. We had to wait in line for a long time (in the rain) before getting our ticket checked. Everytime we need to go out, when coming back we need to pass by security check. The staff should learn more from the organisation at Spodek Arena in Katowice.

What shall I say for Lanxess Arena?! The lights were spectacular, the big screens allow to the people on the higher seats to see clearly what happens on the stage despite the distance. The sound at some point started lowering down, not much but noticable. This can make a difference, especially during a concert. With 16.000 people capacity expect a long line everywhere. From drinks and snacks, to enter the toilets. A lot of parking options all around it, just be patient. The traffic might drive you crazy! 🤣 Enjoy your time there!

A great experience, due to the inclination of the seatin, everyone has a good view. The show was great. Access by public transportation or car easy. No cues to enter or exit.

Went here for Andre Rieu concert and it was fun, the only thing that distracts me was the left side of the stage where you can't see much more cause if the electric cables that are hanging. For the tune of the whole arena is good.

I was here for many concerts like Karty Perry, Ariana Grande, Madonna,… Unfortunately there was never a security control in terms of looking into bags or jacket pockets. That is what I feel like hugely dangerous-if you think about current events. Also, I did not like the fact that if you have seats in the upper area, searching for signs is horrendously difficult. During the Madonna concert 2023 we had to wait for 95 minutes since the artist was not on time-there was not even one announcement in which they apologized-neither the staff of the arena nor the artist itself. Not to forget-hygiene in the restrooms? What is that!? Disgusting! View from the upper sections was also restricted through lightning & stuff.

Attended a Cologne Sharks game in September 2023 and it's a great arena - modern and clean with friendly staff and all the expected amenities. Would have liked a KEC team store inside the arena instead of the very hectic stalls, but otherwise, a top notch experience.

I went here for 'Panic! At the disco' and it was one of my most memorable experiences. I was seated in block 607, row 8, seat 1 and was more than satisfied with the view and the sound/vocals. (I've uploaded videos so you can check the view) Finding the seats was pretty easy, FYI it was my first time going to an arena for a concert. The line outside was long but it moved pretty fast.

A nice area with good restaurants and cafes to choose from. Only a 15 mins walk from the main station, or you can take the trams or buses instead.

Open market used for different city held events, but also a great gathering spot. Some cool historical buildings in the area, very close to the riverfront and city hall.

Great place ! We enjoyed a lot during two days the Christmas market which was organized so well and very beautiful. Decorations and the ambiance was so magic as well for kids and adults. The food makers was chosen so well to present the local traditional food.

An amazing spot for entertainment! We had a really great time and got unforgettable memories. I wanna get back! This place is must see for everyone definitely (a little Christmas fairy tale in Cologne)

Consists of two markets that merge into one. Great market and probably one of the best. Amazing atmosphere and remember to look up at the gnomes as they are hilarious! Great variety of markets, trinkets, food and drink. Would definitely recommend. Also great if you like ice skating and curling which are available here.

A superb Christmas market, one of the best ones I have been to in my life. There is a very wide selection of food and drinks, nice atmosphere with ice rink and decorated stalls. It gets very crowded on a weekend but still worth it

A really buzzing market at this time of year. Loaded with atmosphere but the crowds are not for the faint hearted. Masses to see, a feast for the eyes and the tummies. The aromas, sound and visual experience will stay with you for a long time.

Visited this place in the first week of December. Was about 6 degrees. Filled with a lot of food stalls which was part of the christmas market. The Christmas stalls themselves were there but fewer and I found the small items a bit expensive. Layout of stalls was good. Ice skating was well organized. Affordable €8 and skates were available for rent €6. Can bring your own skates. Locker facilities available but only small lockers for €1. Cannot hold a big backpack. Also had another game for those not wanting ice skating.
