Excellent aquarium. The layout and flow offer you different perspectives of the sharks, dolphins and seals at different points. The various world regions and animals are thorough. The location is easy and beautiful. A fun 2-3 hours. Buy tickets online through their official website and be careful of discounted sites.

I visited Genoa on a cruise and went to the aquarium. It was so amazing!!!! I love animals so much and they had some cool and really cute animals. I would highly recommend going here if you ever visit Genoa. Going earlier is definitely better before field trips.

A very nice aquarium with a variety of fish and aquatic animals. It’s worthwhile visiting and you could easily spend a couple of hours if not half a day. If you are with kids, you should plan on spending half a day here as there are plenty to see and will keep the kids interested. The exotic fish and marine life is well kept although one can always argue if the environment they are kept in is truly fair, especially for the marine mammals such as the dolphins and larger fish such as the sharks. The penguins are an added attraction here. You could take a break at the cafe inside the aquarium and spend some time taking in the views from the deck, with the views of the port.

Quite nicely done even though it still seems like the space, especially for the bigger animals, is too constrained. Still struggling with the ethical part of visiting such places, but it's so tempting to see the animals. Too many kids tho.

I visited the aquarium with my school and it was a really nice experience. There is an enormous collection of all kind of sea creatures. We also saw penguins, crocodiles and turtles. Obviously there were also scary and strange sharks. Furthermore we were lucky enough to see a dolphin show. If you plan to visit this place I highly recommend you call them and get your tickets in advanced, because it can get very crowded very fast.

Really great aquarium with beautiful exhibits and wonderful experiences for all ages. Book tickets in advance. Get there as early as possible if you'd rather not have too overwhelming a crowd. Not always convenient lifts/enough for strollers and accessibility.

Great experience, really worth a visit. Animals are kept in a convenient environment, the site is clean, well-preserved. Visitor information is clear, and interactive at a level you may expect any museum / attraction in the 2020s. Staff is also very nice. Avoid weekends if you wanna hear less screaming from kids. :-)

After a quick breakfast, we visited the Aquarium of Genoa. We recommend going early in order to beat the crowds. It’s never that big of a crowd, although any crowd will obstruct your viewing experience. It’s very impressive, their selection. Penguins, piranhas, sturgeon, manatees, seals, dolphins, sharks, chameleons, jellyfish - they’ve got it all. Totally fun for the whole family and very fun to shoot video.

Make sure to buy your ticket before you go, queues out the front can be ridiculously long, and exhibits are crazily busy, especially in school holidays. Amazing array of creatures and sea life, although was wary that some enclosures felt insufficiently deep or wide. Gift shop #sucked.

Wonderful aquarium. Compared to other similar places, this is quite large, the kids were very happy. We stayed about 4 hours (including nice lunch at the terrace with beautiful view over harbour). Price is quite high, but it is a half-day event.

Not the biggest but really beautiful place,loved the huge aquariums where you could just sit and admire all the animals. There’s also a restaurant inside with a great view. Overall not too many aquariums but they have some species that other/bigger aquariums don’t have. In the end once you finished you still have a lot of time to explore the beautiful city!

Excellent place to visit - one of the highlights of our train trip around Italy. Kept us very entertained for about 2 hours easily. Perfect for kids but also without. Very interactive and everything is in English and Italian. Everything looks very clean and all animals look in good condition and well cared for. Very good price for what you get. Really nice aquarium. My kids were so happy to visit it. Well organised . Just remember to buy the tickets in advance and to book online your entry time. It is easy to reach with the car .. plenty of parking in the area.

Very outdated, poorly maintained aquarium with dark lighting and foggy uncleaned glass. Some exhibits were nice, like the Seahorses. Be mindful that the signage directing you to the exhibits is very poor, you do not get a visitor map and there are few signs informing you of the right way to proceed. Especially confusing with the upper and lower levels. After we visited the Penguin enclosure we were brought to a giant white building that had little signs, other than for lockers or bathrooms. There was a big desk that read “Behind The Scenes” and that requires an extra ticket (€8). So we turned back, not even realizing there was another big section of the aquarium after that. Very poor layout and guidance. When we asked about the other exhibits on the pier, they told us to go outside and we will find the Biosphere €5 extra) and other things. That is when we realized there is a Dolphin tank and Tropical Rainforest area… but it was too late. Once you go outside, you can not re-enter. Of course, it’s sad that they keep dolphins in a small tank anyway, so probably better not to see that. And finally, we were surrounded by aggressive migrants forcing us to take bracelets and souvenirs and begging for money along the entire area of the aquarium. From the entrance to the exit. Almost no security around. Overall, this aquarium should be priced around €15 for the quality of the current experience. After our visit, we felt let down and overcharged. I hope they consider a major renovation to improve the exhibits and signage and consider discontinuing the dolphin shows and instead use the facility to rehabilitate and release injured or abandoned dolphins.

A good price compared to some I've been too. Some animals we never thought we would see so one very happy girlfriend. The tropical pool was incredible. But then some others were rather Barron so felt sorry for them. But all in a great aquarium and a great aquarium

It's always nice to see what is in the ocean close by. Still think the dolphin tank is small for them. Nice place for kids and adults to visit and understand what beautiful creatures are in de ocean's .

A big and good museum. The maritime museum offers a good overview of Genova’s naval and maritime activities from the late middle ages to now. The have several life size ships inside the building that you can walk through, which is impressive, especially the medieval galley. They provide much information, but not always with a translation of the Italian. A special treat is the visit to the submarine nearby, which is amazing. There is an interesting part on emigration and immigration. Some floors have special exhibitions. The top floor offers a wonderful view of the city with some indications of important structures. If you would find the museum a bit too big, because the entire visit can take a few hours, you can always skip parts.

I like maritime museums, they’re a quick way of learning the history of a city & culture. We came in knowing little about Genoa, we left impressed & wanting to learn more. The museum is laid out well so it’s fairly easy to navigate. It’s not overly large, so you won’t get museum-fatigue. Some exhibits are dusty & looking a bit forlorn, others were obviously sponsored by a corporation & quite spiffy. Did we wish there were more placards in English? Sure. But no matter, there was enough to get the gist. Definitely definitely go up to the roof, sit & soak in the view

A truly fantastic day out! If you're spending time in Genoa, I highly recommend a visit to this museum. As an English speaking guest, I found it a bit difficult to understand most of the detailed descriptions of artefacts on display (since all are written in Italian). There are some QR codes dotted around to access a translated version of the displays (there is free WiFi at this museum!). PRO TIP: Download the Google Translate app to your phone! Use this to automatically translate descriptions and live translate conversations into your desired language (to fully understand the interactive videos on the upper floors). BEST BITS: Visit the interactive "Immigration to America" to experience what it was like for millions of Italians migrating to the USA. You can grab a free passport and travel documents at the beginning of this exhibit on the 3rd floor. Take a tour inside a real submarine! The S518 Nazario Sauro is docked in the harbour directly outside the museum. You'll be given a hard-hat and a hairnet at reception at the end of your tour around the museum (just show them your ticket for entry). You can also collect audio guides from this location. Ticket prices (for museum and submarine visit 2022): Adults: 19€ Concessions: 17€ Children from 4-12yrs 14€ (Please note children under 3 cannot go inside the submarine) You can also buy tickets for only the museum at a cheaper rate (prices between 13€ to 8€)

It was a bit boring ,the kids didn't have fun there. Prices are too high for what is available. A lot of paintings without lighting to see as it should. The submarine does not take more than 5 minutes to visit, but it is nice to see inside it once in a lifetime. My children are 3 and 6 years old and I find it is not for their age because they are not having fun.

We bought the Genova museum card which gives 24h access to many museums. Unfortunately no way near all... Which they don't do a lot to tell you about. For example this museum was included - but just not the submarine - which they wanted additional 6 EUR/person for... (Didn't buy) In my opinion, this is not reasonable and ruins the supposedly good deal with the museum card. Regarding this museum, there was too little info in English to make it interesting. Woman at counter did nothing to make it a good experience and never informed about any audio guide etc. Several interesting points about navigation was impossible to understand as only Italian. The emigration part was good - you learned about the trip conditions etc.

Huge museum. Very interesting. Recommend. Also go inside the submarine - buy the biglietto intero. I bought mine from Tiqets. I arrived earlier than the time booked but lady at ticket office said booking is not according to any time frame and let us in.

The museum is spread over 5 floors. In the, partly historical, areas of the building, the exhibitions are sorted according to different eras and topics. The rooms are detailed and lovingly designed and are a work of art in themselves. So you walk through authentic interiors of ships, through Brazilian huts, through a submarine and much more. Two huge, faithful replicas of ships can be freely explored. The display cases and exhibits are very authentically staged. There are also sub-action options in some areas. Unfortunately, the multilingualism of all the information conveyed in the museum fails. A guide for non-Italian speakers would be helpful. Online, the information in some rooms can be displayed in different languages. For children under 4 years the museum is only conditionally suitable, since they find only few Possibilities of interaction for their age group, besides the entrance to the submarine in the port (in the ticket included) for children under 4 years is not allowed. Once at the top, you can enjoy the view over Genoa and the harbor from the panoramic terrace.

Awesome museum with stunning exhibition spread out across multiple floors as well as submarine tour (definitely recommend unless you suffer from claustrophobia). Stunning observation deck with nice port and town overview. Within walking distance to the town centre. Plenty of interactive boards as well.

We visited the museum as we had a rainy day and needed something to pass the time. We were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed our visit! We spent over 3 hours at the museum and enjoyed every moment. It is easy to lose interest in some museums when you visit for a long time, but we did not get that at all. The exhibits were well presented and varied enough to keep things interesting. There is also something for everyone, including history, art, and interactive exhibits. Highly recommend giving this museum a visit if you are in the area.

If you enjoy maritime history and exhibits, put the Galata Museo del Mare on your list of things to do in Genoa. Five floors of interesting exhibits across hundreds of years related to sailing and shipping over the seas. Kind staff, great panoramic views from the top floor, and though I was solo on my visit, this would be a good experience for families as well. Only challenge I had was, with my limited and lacking Italian language skills, I didn't get to fully engage with several of the exhibits that were in Italian only. Fortunately there is Google Translate to help out.

Beautiful maritime musuem with much to offer. 17 euros and you have the whole musuem and submarine at your disposal. Only recommendation is that a gift shop full of genoa history would have been a bonus

Definitely worth the cost of the ticket!! Five floors of exposition and a great view on the museum roof. It has plenty of interactive activities,quite unusual in Italy. They are great as well. You have a simulator for driving boats and submarines. The museum drives you during the naval evolution giving and hints of the seamans during the different historic periods. The immigration section should be a mandatory visit for all children.

Brilliant museum with so much to see! Definitely bring kids to see the ships and climb down to a submarine. Museum is very looked after and Genovese people take a lot of pride in it. Definitely visit the emigration floor (4) also to see life on the ship and climb to the very top for a panoramic view of the city! Definitely worth a visit!

Great museum, very unpleasant staff (especially the older lady with glasses from reception). She was very annoyed by every question we had and she answered very "edgy" (we if they had an audio guide available and from where we can take helmets for submarine). Altough everywhere in the museum it is written you can acces the audio guide with the ticket code and 1 euro, she said no audio guide exists. She also sent us all the time to her colleague, meaning to change the row and sit in line again altough her colleague was 30 cm in her right and she was free, no one was behind us and we already sat in line.

Interesting. I thought it had enough English for me, but I can see why some people complain about only the Italian for a lot of it. I still found it enjoyable, but maybe a bit high priced for 17 Euro. The front staff were extremely nice to me. Lots of interesting things to see and the history of Genoa and boats are interesting enough for a few hour visit.

Amazing experience in a fantastic interactive museum. Galata Museum is a journey through history to understand the progression of ships and how naval instruments change to guide the navigation, how ancient people lived on top of ships, the vital role of migration over time, it is an inclusive experience that will engage everyone with the perfect naval reconstruction, photograph, 3Ds experience and the different structure of each floor. The last one was a wonderful surprise: the last 12 hours on the Andrea Doria, the recreation is wonderful and the reward is the breathtaking view on the city on the last floor. An adventure to do not miss for adults, children, families in which everyone will find his own space.

Amazing Cathedral, totally worth it. It is being restored on the outside so you cant really see the facade but the interior is amazing. You cant get in with uncovered shoulders or very short skirts or shorts.

They have finally opened the staircase to go to the roof which offers some amazing city views. Was not overly busy so could enjoy it thoroughly. Not for disabled/elderly people, it is quite a climb through a narrow turning staircase. The interior of the Cathedral is beautiful as well, worth visiting when in Genova.

Incredible cathedral, wonderful exterior style. Interior is rich, as it needs to be when it comes to cathedrals, and the two lions from the outside I liked the most. The other thing I like in this cathedral are ,,blind doors'' on both sides. All of the pictures were taken exactly 6 years ago, in 2015.

No visit to Genoa is compete without a visit to “Cattedrale Di San Lorenzo!” The architecture of the outside of the Cathedral, as well as the inside of the Cathedral are breathtaking in every way. Unfortunately, as of the time that I took these photos (July, 2022), the outside of the structure is being cleaned or restored so there is a lot of scaffolding, but do not let it prevent you from visiting! As you can see from my photos, it is still magnificent. Cathedrals and Holy Sites as amazing as “Cattedrale Di San Lorenzo” deserve to be kept up and looking great, so kindly be mindful of that if you visit!

Absolutely gorgeous fresco and historical site. The catedral is hidden from the port nestled inside a court that is visible as you make your way up the street through many shops. Definitely worth a visit and photo op.

Lots of pickpockets near here. Found my bag open twice but I had my passport and wallet well hidden and not in my bag. So just be careful when walking around the beautiful city of Genoa. It is an easy city to walk around

Must see destinations for pilgrims. The cathedral is richly decorated. The museum collection is not big but very important sanctities are kept.

So surprised how overrated is this place. Probably for many people means a lot as a tourist it was jus a place to relax but also a wasting time. Do not pay to go on top is nothing special is not worth it, more of that even the view from the top is not nice everything being under construction.

A definite must visit purely based on the museum they have. This is not easy to find within the actual "Chiesa". Once you find it you will discover an amazing treasure. For example it is said to hold the bowl that contained Jesus's Blood, as well as the transport of the ashes of John the Baptist and a few other items of intense beauty. The workmanship of these objects are incredible, using gold and semi precious as well as precious stones. Don't miss this place as you won't regret it.

An interestin gexhibition on Artemisia Gentileschi, XVII century painter and her story. Worth seeing. It will be there until March 2024. Also don't miss the permanent exhibition, free, on Emanuele Luzzati, graphic artist: absolutely not to miss!!!

This is a beautiful palace specially the lobby. I also had the chance to enjoy the interior garden. Even more interesting that the palace are the art exhibiyions. F.I. There was a Van Gogh exposition when i visited the palace. So check the activities before hoing.

The palace of Doges was the princes of Genova palace. Its origins go back to XIII century,built above the remains of a few Doria family personal houses. It was totally refurbished during the last few decades and now it is the main exhibition & public conferences location for Genova. Genova is the book capital of Italy for 2023/2024 and the Palazzo Ducale hosts most of the public meeting with writers from all over the world. Worthy a visit indeed.

this palace has a free to enter hall with a few really good cafes where you can eat lunch and have breakfast. Usually there's art exhibitions here, so if you're interested you can check it out!

Most of the Doge Palace was closed. We saw two temporary exhibitions, instead. One of them included the exquisite chapel.

Gorgeous place. We enjoyed it without a guide, exploring on our own. But it would also be great to hear some details, secrets, legends about the palace with a knowing person. There was a flea market there at the weekend.

I didn’t see much because my visit was pretty short but there’s was this really cool big room that I don’t know how would you call it. It was impressive.

When in Genova, you need to see the Doge's palaces that are open to the public. You will also need time to do so. We actually ran out so couldn't completely see everything. The opulance, the grandeur is quite incredible and worth the visit.

The exhibitions are well considered and not too expensive.

There is nothing to see in the palace except for the temporary exhibitions. Grey rooms with photos on the walls, that was my experience. I paid 13 euors to see an exhibition of Man Ray, that was appalling to my taste, with the only hope to see the palace from the inside. In reality, it's just a medium gallery venue, not the great Palace its exterior promises to be. 3/5

Well worth a visit. We almost gave it a miss, but glad we decided to visit. Some lovely rooms and the dining hall with the chandeliers was the highlight.

If you're interested in viewing rooms dressed as they appeared years ago, this is a good place to visit. There are lots of interesting paintings, furniture and carvings made back when workmanship was something people took personal pride in. Wherever I looked I could find interesting details, and some rooms, like the Gallery of Mirrors, were very impressive! Signage and explanations are sparse, but that didn't really detract from the visit for me - it was nice to soak in the history and wonder about how some pieces ended up in the palace...

Only €2 entry for students which is well worth it. The museum is open at really strange times but hey that's Italy. We only went in for the garden but then found the palace to be really gorgeous - definitely recommend a visit here. I think the garden would be better in the daylight and it wasn't lit very well.

As the renovations are ongoing, we were only able to visit the 2nd floor. You will walk through all the rooms on that floor and learn about the historic use of each of them. Some of the paintings are removed from the rooms and exhibited at a special exhibition on the ground floor.

A good way to spend time and explore the history of Genova. The museum is 10 minutes walk from the Genoa Principe train station. We had time to kill so decided to explore the museum and it takes a total of 2 hours at the most. The museum is well maintained housing the original palace with most of the interior including furniture and paintings. Some of the interesting aspects were the King and Queen's bedroom and Mirror Hall. There is sufficient information provided in each of the rooms to explain the history and significance. If you have time and interest in exploring Genova history this is a good place to visit.

We visited on our last full day in Genova and what a place. The art was beautiful captivating us with the skills of the past masters. The Royal palace rooms were lavishly decorated which were amazing.

Fresh breeze from the Tyrrhenian Sea 🌊 is felt on the open terraces, times before there were trees 🌳 outside. Looks to be perfectly planned, decorated and equipped. High ceilings decorated with paintings 🎨, lots of space including ball room inside.

A Royal residence in its furnishings, frescoes and paintings. Not as grand as some others, eg La Regia in Caserta. but good to see from the Genovese perspective as it was decorated by the King of Sardegna in 1824. Unfortunately the beautiful Galleria dei Specchi is undergoing renovation but it is possible to see it from one end.

A strange and amazing place to visit, the variety of statues and pathes offer a mix of idyllic landscapes and pieces of art. But you will probably ends up as a meal for mosquitoes. Life goes on.

Spectacular! One of the most incredible cemeteries/ "art museums of sculptures" that you will ever see. If you love history and amazing sculptures, then put this place on your "to go visit" list. I could not believe how beautiful and intricately perfect the statues are. So incredibly made that you would swear they come to life after hours. This place is enormous so make sure you leave at least a half a day in your schedule to see it, maybe even longer. It's unfathomable that the statues are not just decoration, but also tombs and there are so many of them! Fantastic photo opportunities are everywhere in this place. I did not take the guided tour but it's on my list to do in the future. I've heard good things about it. The cemetery is free to enter. For the guided tour, you have to pay a small fee. Do not miss this!

One of the best places I've ever visited. Worth the visit to genoa. The amount of effort and sweat put in building this place is tremendous. The feeling of humility while there is amazing. Definitely a good recommendation to put on your list.

Absolutely amazing sculptures! The best I've ever seen yet (thanks ViasatHistory short series :) Some statues do look like they are alive (marble eye lashes, why not?). Indeed, some pieces could've been kept in better condition, yet it's an old and still functional cemetery with all burials and repairs going on. Free parking near the place. We've entered for free, though some say there's admittance fee.

Probably the most interesting place in Genoa. The sculptures you will see in the pavilions will beat a sculpture collection of any museum, and then then you can go up the hill with very impressive tombs.

The biggest problem with this place is that you absolutely need a guide and it can be that on some days there is no English guide for the whole day. Also, there's a possibility that there are schools visiting and the whole experience is not available. Also, the experience starts at the beginning of every hour and lasts for 45 minutes. Their site doesn't mention any of this. So, I never got in. Call them to make sure they have availability.

Wonderful experience to be able to better empathise with the daily life challenges faced by the blind. Very thoughtfully crafted experience; one of those things which helps restore one's faith in humanity, just a bit.

Intense experience, an enlightening opportunity to step into the shoes of a person with visual impairment. Everyone should try at least once, in order to understand how is daily life without something we give for granted.

Did not get to do the tour, no English interpreter was available until later in the day after our cruise ship departs.

7 minutes of Nice view. I don’t want to imagine in summer time when the weather outside is hot..no air conditioning available inside!!! And today was hot, we had a free sauna while enjoying the view. I bought the ticket online as a combo with the acquarium and the biodiversity Maybe I was lucky..no waiting line, but when get busy no priority line. If there’s a line you need to wait for your turn.

The ticket for the lookout for 5 minutes of sightseeing is ok. It is a pity that there is no telescope and that the gondola is not at a higher altitude

A great experience and some spectacular views all long the way up and especially when you are all the way up. It’s a quick elevator ride and you get 360 degrees, unobstructed views of the city and port. You can spot the historical and iconic structures of the city and they are displayed inside the elevator as to what direction to look for to spot each of those. You could spend about an hour for the whole ride but definitely worth the experience, especially on a nice sunny day.

Great experience by the near of Porto antico. You can observe all the city from 40 meters above. The locked cabin rotates 360 degrees and it allows you to see all around the old city and port. It totally coats the price.

Very beautiful spot with a view of city and the harbour with all the ships and cruises. Really interesting to see the design and history of the port. It's a very old port and the engineering and architecture in building this port is really amazing! Really nice to visit this place when you explore Genova.

Ok viewing point. Now that I have done it, i wouldn't do it again. Not much to see. I purchased tickets to the aquarium and it was part of the deal.

Interesting and quite popular attraction on the ancient port seaside. Entrance costs 5 euros. You can see Genoa from a bird's eye view. All local architectural sights are visible from there.

Great ride to get your bearings in Old Genova. Cost only 5€. Good spot for pictures as well

I enjoyed the cool ocean breeze and walk at the pier. It was busy by tourist and visitors from another cities for the weekend. It doesn’t smell too salty surprisingly.

Great selection of food to fit all your family's tastes. Prices were good and takeaway service was on point as well. Recommend if you have kids and want something to eat for all. Located right in the middle of Porto Antico.
